Reg will join us, coming up here in a little
bit more phone calls eight seven to seven three DP
Show operator Tyler is sitting by. We are gonna do
today's show and then fly to Vegas Thursday and Friday
at the Fountain Blue Hotel. We'll do a couple of
shows if you'd like to join us. Seaton's already there,
The big German is there. They're setting up our studio,
(00:43):
our makeshift studio there in the Fountain Blue. Eight seven
seven three DP Show Email address Dpadanpatrick dot com, Twitter
handle a DP show. Yes, I probably got remnants of
this head cold sore throat from Todd, but it's okay.
We play hurt. Todd was showing up played hurt, and uh,
I think I caught some strays here and uh, battling that.
(01:07):
But I'm not in any way blaming Utah, you're not no, no,
not at all.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Caught some strays from me, but you're not blaming No.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
I mean this is just it. It's a man cave.
We're together for you know, four or five. But I mean,
you can apologize to America.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
I could do that. I've already I've already blamed my
wife because she brought it home from her school. So
I got it from her and then I guess, uh,
I forwarded it.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Yeah. It's damn kids.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Yeah, dirty every time.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Yeah, it's like a big Petrie dish when you go
like daycare. I remember my wife was like, just they're
gonna catch everything. Just go get it and you know,
then we'll figure it out after that. You're trying to
troubleshoot when you're sending your kid to daycare. They're like
five years old. Things they come home with and you're like, uh, hun,
(01:57):
why don't you take care of this?
Speaker 5 (01:58):
Yes, Bully, two things you do and Fritzy sound like
a couple of guys who just got back from three
days in Vegas.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I roughed up a little bit. Do you guys have.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
That family go to anything for bad throat, bad cold
that he's on rest and fluids. Is there like a
family recipe or anything.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
No.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
In fact, I didn't even know I was leaving the house.
I go said to my wife what am I supposed
to be getting? She goes mucinex and you know, DayQuil
and alka seltzer or something, and I was like, okay,
So I'm loading up my shopping cart there this morning,
bringing in supplies. It's gonna be great being on a
(02:38):
plane for five hours. I feel sorry for the person
sitting next to me, unless that person was Utah, but
you're not sitting next to me, all right, Dylan Dylan
in for Seaton Poll question for the final hour of
the program.
Speaker 6 (02:51):
All right, Dan, Well, we got a couple options. Here's one.
Should Dan stay in Vegas Friday night and go to
the Pitbull concert obviously or no?
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Lame.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
Jamar Chase's one game suspension and for foreiture of roughly
five hundred k is fair soft or too hard?
Speaker 1 (03:10):
By the way, when the NFL wants his story to
go away, they act swiftly. They swooped in on Jamar
Chase and it's like, here, you're suspended for a game.
We're gonna find you. It's gonna cost you about six
hundred thousand dollars. Let's move on now. Jamar Chase said,
I didn't spit on him. I never opened my mouth
towards that man. And then all of a sudden, the
(03:32):
NFL probably.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Said, here's the video.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Now he did appeal, But I don't know what you
appeal in a situation like that. Is that where you said, hey,
you know I have a speech impediment. Hey, I got
INVISI line, and you know sometimes I spit you know, Yes.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
A couple things. The suspension will cost Chase his weekly
paycheck a four hundred and forty eight thousand, plus his
active game bonus of fifty eight thousand, so he's at
the five and twenty grand mark for spitting. The other
thing is he does have an appeal, it will be
heard by Derek Brooks, Ramon Foster or Jordy Nelson, the
committee of the NFL Players Association. Now the problem is
(04:12):
these are the same three people who gave him the punishment.
So he's appealing to the people who punished him in
the first place.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Well, so they not the commissioner the.
Speaker 5 (04:21):
Well Derek Brooks kind of runs the disciplinary guy. Okay,
but the problem is.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
I can you have somebody here the appeal who didn't
hand out the punishment in the first place.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
In most cases of life, there's a neutral party. The
NFL doesn't do it that way. But don't you think
if you gave Jamar Chase a do over, he can't
do over the spitting, but the interview after if he
would have been contrite, yeah, he may have avoided the game.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Well, he was betting that there was no video, That's
what he was betting on, and that was really his
only out. That was his lifeline. Is I hope they
don't have video of this, and then all of a
sudden there was video and then a you go, uh busted,
yeah pulling.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
You know, I know Jamar Chase has a lot of money.
People on social media are like, he makes forty million
dollars a year. He's not going to miss five hundred thousand.
Even when you're really really rich, losing money for a
really dumb reason has to get under your skin, you know.
Like you know, let's say you had a ten million
dollar house and you flooded your basement because of something
you did, and it costs you twenty grand you could
afford it, but man.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
It's dumb.
Speaker 7 (05:25):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
The UH Raiders are now two to eight. Dallas improves
to four or five and one in their next three
games will decide their season if they're going to be
in playoff contention, because they got the Eagles coming up.
And that's why I thought this was a tricky game.
This was a trap game when you're playing the Raiders
are just that bad that even though it was a
trap game, it didn't matter. George Pickens was wonderful. But
(05:49):
if you beat the Eagles, now, all of a sudden,
all you got to do is win your division. I mean,
you win the division, you know your record doesn't have
to be great, you just have to be a little better.
I just wonder if that tie against the Packers comes
back to haunt them or maybe it helps them. But
(06:10):
you lose to the Cardinals, you lose to Carolina, Like
they've had some games where you go, gosh, you lost
to the Bears. These are the kind of games where
you look back on it and you go, that's going
to cost me. And it feels like any of these
teams that just missed the postseason, there's always that one
game where you can circle it and go.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
That was it.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Like the Bengals losing last year to New England and
I remember saying, how did they get out of the
gate so slowly? And this is the game that can
cost them making the playoffs there, So Jamar Jay suspended,
suspended quickly. Michael Pennix Junior the third done for the season.
We were talking about hot messes and PAULI put the
(06:52):
Saints in there, and I don't think they're a hot mess.
They're just they're not good. Then there's nothing interesting except
for their uniforms and maybe Tyler shuck maybe, but you know,
the Jets are a mess and the Cardinals are a mess.
Titans feel messy ish, uh who else did we a?
Vegas feels messy? Like you're still relevant, but you're relevant
(07:17):
in a bad way. Yes, Dylan, we have the Jets
on there too. Yeah, Jets are messy.
Speaker 6 (07:24):
They're leading the messy pole.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Yeah, okay, they're They're Lionel Messie. What I with that?
Todd Very clever, even while under the influence of drugs, you're.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Still finding a way to tap that cleverness.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Takes a lot to take me down, Toddler, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
But Michael Pennix.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Another knee surgery, and you got the Kirk Cousins situation.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Boy, that.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Do you fire the coach? You do have some talent there,
because didn't they beat Buffalo? Yeah, but then didn't they
lose thirty to nothing? They lost to the Panthers thirty
to nothing? Right, correct? Yes, Stale.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
They also feel like they're the biggest mess with the
most talent on the team, like they should. They're least
deserving of being in the messy pool.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
But that makes it messy or messy er because you
do have talent. Yeah, but you're also you're relevant because
you're bad with this talent, then you should be a
lot better.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
Yeah, Pauland is there any upside for the Falcons that
they have Michael Pennix still on a rookie deal and
Kirk Cousins still on the roster possibly for next year.
They're paying Kirk Cousins anyway, they may give him another
chance to.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
You never know, well, well he gets a chance here
for the next whatever six games, seven games.
Speaker 5 (09:00):
But there's no way out on either of their quarterbacks
for the next two years.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
I just didn't understand the logic, like you spent all
that money on Kirk if you knew that you were
going to take a quarterback, or you're going to take
that quarterback, because I think the Raiders were interested in
Michael Pennix. But if you're getting Kirk Cousins and then
all of a sudden, you go, but if that quarterback's available,
we're going to take him. I just didn't understand the
(09:29):
timing of that. If Cousins has one more year, laughter,
even two years, you can take Michael Pennix. But as
much as I admired Michael Pennix's toughness at Indiana and
then when he went to Washington, I didn't look at
him and.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Go gotta have him.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
I mean, I don't know, Just like JJ McCarthy same way,
I'm like, Okay, you had these other quarterbacks, that's the
guy you want. And I kept saying, what did I
miss at Michigan because Jim likes to run the ball,
(10:07):
and it didn't act. He didn't ask JJ McCarthy to
win games. Now, maybe he didn't need to, but you
would think if you're gonna be that good, and he
was really good in the playoffs, But I I kept
I was waiting for something and maybe it wasn't fair
to him. But you know, now he's been banged up
a little bit. He didn't play that great this past weekend.
(10:30):
He did in the fourth quarter, well he had what
two drives that he was really good, but you know,
he hurt the team in the first three quarters. Jordan Addison,
you know, had a couple of great plays to bail
him out. But you know, there's just certain quarterbacks where
you go, Okay, I'm being told this now, keep you know,
they keep reminding you this guy's good, this guy's hey,
(10:53):
this guy's going. You know, it's you know, like Trevor Lawrence,
I still don't know, but I should know by now,
and I should know by now with Justin Herbert, where
you go, man, that guy no. Granted, that offensive line
of the Chargers, which you know Jim tried to build
up in the off season, has been decimated. So it's
(11:14):
a tricky position where you're trying to figure these guys out.
Like Caleb Williams, I still like his upside. Give him
a little bit of line play there, let him be
a little quicker make decisions, and I think he can
be a grand you know, a franchise quarterback.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
You know, Jadan Daniels.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
People jumped off that bandwagon quickly because he got injured,
and like Drake May, I'd take him. Okay, Jaydan Daniels.
The biggest knock that I have on him is stay healthy.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
It's like Victor Webb. Ben Yama is going to be
out for a couple of weeks. Got a calf string
That's what worries me. Had the blood clot, now, calf strain,
that's where it. You know, somebody doesn't ascend to the
level that they should.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
It's these injuries.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Now, grant the blood clot's serious, but the calf injury
and you're like, Okay, he's out at least a couple
of weeks here.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
Yeah, Paulie going back to the quarterback position. You know,
is in a really interesting good place at the quarterback position.
The la Rams Matthew Stafford playing great. He's got one
more year in his contract and it's relatively team friendly,
and they're getting the best of his last few years.
But they've got two first round draft picks this year.
They've got the Atlanta draft pick that right now is eight,
(12:29):
that's way better than they thought it'd be. And then
they have their own draft pick. They're the kind of
team that could take use one of those on the
best quarterback available and let him sit one year behind
Matthew Stafford for that transition.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Press.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
Yeah, you got to find your quarterback. It's not a quarterback,
it's your quarterback, the quarterback. Too many teams in NFL
history have taken a quarterback, like, we got to take
a quarterback, and you've got to get the right quarterback.
And if it's not, then then you pass that guy up.
You get somebody else who is makes sense for you.
(13:00):
Right now, the NFL is about now. I know, we
love to build for the future, and we got draft
picks and we got these guys under rookie contract. Okay,
Atlanta has that. It doesn't mean it's gonna even the
Cleveland Browns. Hey, we're gonna have, you know, a couple
of first round draft picks and okay, what do you
(13:20):
do with those? And can they be stars? Yes, Dally, I.
Speaker 6 (13:24):
Feel like the teams that draft well are usually the
ones who go and take who they think is the
best player off the board, as opposed to trying to
shoehorn something in like the Ravens have always done a
good job of that where they just go, this is
the best player we're taking him. Look at lineman first.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
I would always look at lineman defensive, offensive lineman always. Now,
if I can get a cornerback that I think is great,
that's another position. There's always a lot of wide receivers,
there's always a lot of running backs, and there's always
questions about our you know, these quarterbacks every year, same
thing over and over. And when this started, it was like,
(14:01):
oh my gosh, look at this. You could have six
or seven quarterbacks taken in the first row.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Now, how many are you going to have?
Speaker 6 (14:08):
Yeah, Deyl, The wide receivers, to me, have gotten closer
to the running back spot where I feel like it's
been devalued as a higher end pick. Like there's tons
of receivers in the league that are not at the
top of the draft for these days, and then they
end up getting paid three x what running backs are.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Neil does feel like you, you know, when you say, oh,
who's their running back and then you go Rico Dowdell,
You're like, oh, okay, yes, Marvin.
Speaker 8 (14:35):
It's easier to find little fast guys than it is
to find big fast guys.
Speaker 5 (14:40):
Boom Churchill said that.
Speaker 8 (14:42):
Like Jalen Carter, it's not a lot of those running
around here. There's no Butaldell. I could probably find somebody
comparable today.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
How about we take a break, Reggie Miller said, to
join us. We're back after this and The Dan Patrick Show.
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am easterns six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 9 (15:05):
Hey, we're Covino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
But here's the thing.
Speaker 9 (15:10):
We never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get.
Speaker 10 (15:13):
To, and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for. Yeah, you blubber lit lame in me.
Speaker 9 (15:28):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 10 (15:32):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 9 (15:46):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also Uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.
Speaker 10 (15:56):
There you go, over Promising, and remember you could see
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with
Cadino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
No Victor, WMBN, Yama, no Ja morand Spurs and the
Grizzlies in eight Eastern on NBC and Peacock. No problem
for Reggie Miller, who joins this on the program. All right,
how are you gonna dress this game up without Wemby
and Jamaran tonight?
Speaker 4 (16:28):
I think a lot of Zach Edy this second game back.
Speaker 11 (16:34):
Uh, Jaron Jackson left defense the player of the year
from Memphis, and I think for San Antonio Darren Fox,
I think he was the clutch player of the year
a couple of years.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
Look, we're gonna.
Speaker 7 (16:50):
Roll everything and see what sticks.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
See, this is what I worry about with wem Ben Yama.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
You know, your big man always has you know, could
be feet, knees, you had the blood clot, now you
have calf strain. I understand it, but I mean that's
the only thing. Injury is the only thing going to
prevent him from being one of the all time greats
in my opinion. But is usage like, can you prevent
(17:17):
these things with a big man?
Speaker 4 (17:19):
No?
Speaker 7 (17:21):
I mean, look at John Moran, He's what barely six
feet and he has the same issue that Wimby has,
you know, a calf strain, the calf issues, and I think, uh,
just looking at the history over the last year, year
and a half with Damian Lillard, Tyrese Halliburton, Jason Tatum,
(17:44):
I think any type of calf related issue, tightness, soreness, stiffness,
you will see NBA players played on the on the
cautious side. And you know, I think most train staffs
now are saying, hey, do you want to miss two
weeks or potentially miss twelve months?
Speaker 4 (18:07):
And I think all these players.
Speaker 7 (18:10):
Are going to side on the air on the side
of caution.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
Here with these calf issues.
Speaker 7 (18:16):
But I mean, if you can go down the list
of John Moran's issues over the last two years. And
with Wimby, I mean, these are two guys that really
are so unique at their position, and with John some
of the electrifying moves, but he does hit the floor
a lot.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
And we kind of highlighted this with Dwayne Wade back
in the day.
Speaker 7 (18:40):
What was that commercial hit the floor, get up six
times at the floor sometimes or whatever that commercial was.
I mean, these guys do such electrifying things on the court,
and Wimby's I mean, we've never seen that that spin
move that he did against Draymond Green, that out of
balance play, I don't think I've ever seen that before.
(19:03):
And so you're gonna have these things crop up. It's
just part of the nature. You just hope it's not
a lingering thing because CAF issues can't linger a little bit,
and you hope this is not a reoccurring injury.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
It looked AI when Steph Curry hits that three pointer
over Victor run Banyama. I don't even know how do
you practice something like that of shooting over somebody who
their wingspan is probably you know, close to ten feet
and Steph with a fade away three used to be
when teams would play Luel Sindor in college, they'd have
(19:41):
somebody stand on a chair and hold a broom, just to.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Give you an idea of what it was like.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
I don't know how you can simulate playing against somebody
like that and shooting jumpers over them.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
You can't.
Speaker 7 (19:54):
And I think in Steph's case, I think he reverts
back to muscle memory because he's not entirely focused on Wimby.
I think he's more my shoulders, the line, am I
straight distance. Yeah, he sees the defender in front of
him and oh my god, it's you know, a twelve
(20:15):
foot alien. But I think you reverted it. Excuse me.
Back to the Olympics. I think he made a shot
like that to win gold medal for US over Wimby.
So there is a history there between those two on
those switches, on those high screening rolls, and so far
(20:37):
Steph is two for two in those big time moments
versus Wimby.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
But yeah, you're shooting over.
Speaker 7 (20:46):
Over a statue, and I think he reverts back to
his muscle memory.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
We saw the Jamar Chase situation with Jalen Ramsey spitting
in his face does that happen in the NBA.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
Look as much trash talk as in face to face.
Speaker 7 (21:04):
I'm not saying he didn't do it on purpose, but
in the heat of moment, Yeah, I mean it happens.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
Look, there's no excuse for that.
Speaker 7 (21:15):
And if it was a purpose spit on Jamar Case,
he's lucky you only got one game because it's just
there's no call for it. You can't do that in
any sport.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
But yeah, it happens in the NBA.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
I don't know about necessarily purposely spitting on someone, but
when you are nose to nose and you're talking trash,
things fly out. It flies out. So I don't know
if you're purposely doing that, but yeah, things happen.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Somebody accidentally, maybe with their lisp they spit in your
face or something, or they have braces and visil line
or something comes out.
Speaker 7 (21:59):
People to talk through their mouthpieces, those are a little
bit uncomfortable, and.
Speaker 4 (22:06):
Smid comes out. Yes, LOOKI comes out.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
I was worried Draymond Green talking to a fan. Okay,
nothing happened, but why is Draymond Green getting chippy with
a Pelicans fan?
Speaker 7 (22:21):
First of all, I'm gonna give as much as I
love Draymond Green, I do love him.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
That was some elite trolling by that fan. No cursing.
He did his homework and if you look at the
stat line.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
All he was doing was referring to Draymond Green as
Angelies Ally was saying the numbers and you're not scoring,
but you are racking up the rebound.
Speaker 4 (22:49):
That's kind of funny.
Speaker 11 (22:51):
So I don't understand the sensitivity side of Draymond.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
That's something he would do because he's an elite troll.
I kind of give the fan. I'm taking the.
Speaker 7 (23:04):
Fans point of view because there was he didn't cross
the line my point.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
I know you would think that Draymond Green would have
a sense of humor with something like that.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
He should have had a sense of humor on this one,
because it's kind of funny.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
If I could give you Ja Moran's future or Zion
Williams's future, Oh.
Speaker 7 (23:27):
And I gotta pick one of these guys. Both are
injury prone. I don't know what you do going forward
with both of these guys.
Speaker 3 (23:37):
Can you build around either one of them?
Speaker 7 (23:39):
No, in my opinion, you can't because I don't know
the availability of both. Certainly in Zion's case, I I
can't trust if I'm a general manager, if I'm a
I don't know if I can trust these two as
electrifying as both are, both put people in the seats
(24:02):
and they are a higher light reel in the making,
but they're also one play away from being out three
to four weeks or even the season.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
I cannot trust that.
Speaker 7 (24:16):
But having said all that, if I can get them
to April May and possibly June, I like my Kansas too.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Steph Curry is a free agent, a shoe free agent.
Here looks like the Jordan brand is gonna scoop him up.
Pure Did you ever wear a bad shoe, like a
shoe that was uncomfortable but you had an endorsement deal.
Speaker 4 (24:43):
No.
Speaker 7 (24:44):
When I first came into the league, do you remember
the shoe Spot Built.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Yeah. I was with Spot.
Speaker 7 (24:50):
Builts my first two years and they were one of
the most comfortable shoes. And then I jumped over to
Nike and I was with Nike the rest of my career.
Especially for basketball players, if you're wearing an uncomfortable shoe,
you're gonna have foot problems for the rest of your career.
Speaker 4 (25:08):
So it doesn't matter the model or the name brand.
Speaker 7 (25:14):
You've got to make sure your Jimmy's are comfortable because
if not, you're gonna have ankle injuries. Planet Fasciidis, which
I was with Nike most of my career, and I
have Planner fascia Idis, So it doesn't matter if you're Adidas, Nike,
Puma or whatever. You've got to find comfortable shoes. And
it doesn't matter because Planet Fasciatus, are you rolling your ankle?
(25:36):
It doesn't matter the brand, it's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Could you have worn Air Jordan if you wanted to?
Speaker 7 (25:42):
I did later in my career, my last two or
three years. I wasn't technically a Jordan athlete because.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
Him Jay never endorsed me technically.
Speaker 7 (25:56):
A lot of times I was wearing them, especially when
he was at his I wore Jordan's.
Speaker 4 (26:02):
Just to piss him off.
Speaker 7 (26:04):
Because no one was supposed to be wearing Jordan brands
other than Michael Jordan or his teammates like Ron Harper
or Pip at times, so other players weren't supposed to
technically wear Jordan's, but I would wear them just so
he only when I played him, just.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
To tick them off.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
Wait, the only time you wore air Jordan's was when
you well, I mean I wore.
Speaker 7 (26:29):
Him at other games after, like once he went to
the Wizards. That's when I was more of a Jordan
brand type player. But when he was with the Bulls,
you weren't supposed to really wear them, but I did
occasionally wear them, just to rub him a little bit
the wrong way.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Which I going to Reggie Miller and be on the
call tonight Jamal Crawford and Noah Eagle. Yes, so it's
Spurs Gridguly.
Speaker 4 (26:57):
With no Victor wimmen Yama and no John Moran. But
we are going to work this game. Baby.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
Give me the feel good story so far this season?
Speaker 7 (27:10):
How about I believe it's ten in a row now
for the Detroit Pistons leading the Central Division and just
reading everything listening to the postseason comments, they were embarrassed
and highly upset in that New York Knicks series last year.
(27:32):
They felt that they left two or three games on
the table, and I wanted to see how they would respond.
How would that summer go? Are you going to use
that as motivating fuel and come back bigger, stronger, faster.
They got off to a slow start and now they
reeled off ten straight. Very good, feel good story. I
(27:52):
think the whole Luca questioning his character, his fitness, he
goes over to your old basket, he.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
Plays great, he gets in shape.
Speaker 7 (28:03):
No Lebron jeans to start the season, and the Lakers
are what nine four ten four?
Speaker 4 (28:11):
That's a feel good story.
Speaker 7 (28:13):
Now you've got arguably the best player of his generation
coming back within the next week or two. I can't believe,
you know, all eyes are always on the Lakers, but
they are. They're somewhat of a feel good story. Lucas
out for a little bit. Austin Reeves is like Jerry
West and Pete Mirovich all wrapped into one for a
(28:34):
few games.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
That's a feel good story.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
But I wonder when Lebron comes back in areas of
the tail end of his career, it's Lucas team, Austin Reeves,
DeAndre eight and like it feels like there's been a
little bit of a rhythm. Now Lebron comes back. Is
it up to Lebron to react to the current team
or the current team to react to Lebron coming back.
Speaker 4 (29:00):
I believe it's up to Lebron.
Speaker 7 (29:02):
And you don't play in this league for twenty two
plus years, like Lebron has done and not be able
to adapt. And he's been over on the sideline since
the beginning of the season.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
He understands what they need and when to.
Speaker 7 (29:19):
Interject, and you know, be Lebron, but he also knows
when he doesn't have the same skill set, even though
at his age he was a second team All NBA
player just a year ago.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
I think he will fit in where.
Speaker 7 (29:36):
He needs to, and I think it's up to him
to fit in as opposed to these guys changing their games.
But I mean, think about that, you're getting an All
NBA player back if you're JJ Reddick the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (29:51):
I like where this is headed.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
I had a caller I don't know if it was
yesterday or the day before, and say, is Steph Curry
a top ten player of all time?
Speaker 3 (29:59):
And discuss this.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
It feels like we put fifteen players into the top ten.
Whenever we have these lists, we don't take players out
because we know Lebron is going in. Is kd and
Steph going into the top ten all time modern basketball?
Speaker 3 (30:19):
In your opinion, now, you.
Speaker 7 (30:27):
Can make a case for both of them because they're
both outliers and they both have changed the game. Obviously,
Steph in his shooting, we have never seen that before
on this stage, just like we never saw a guy
walk on air.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Like Air Jordan. We never saw a six or nine
point guard like Magic Johnson.
Speaker 7 (30:49):
On Katie's point, I mean he's seven foot, even though
he won't claim that, and to be able to shoot
and score?
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Are they top? I would probably put Steph in the
top ten before KD.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
But who do you take out of your top ten?
Speaker 4 (31:08):
Man?
Speaker 7 (31:09):
I mean, that's difficult, That's it's difficult.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
I mean we'd have to go over the ten first.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
Okay, are we gonna include Wilt and Bill Russell? And
if that's the case, then are you including Oscar and
Jerry West?
Speaker 7 (31:29):
Like I don't know, if I don't know, I don't
know if those four would be in my top ten.
Certainly Bill's the obviously the winningness. But we're talking about
in terms of talent, and this is a longer discussion.
(31:50):
Let's get to this next week.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Okay, But do you think Steph is Okay?
Speaker 1 (31:54):
You're gonna have Joker, You're gonna have Giannis, you're gonna
have Luca.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
You got Steph, you got KD, Jeff Modern day.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
You mean, are we gonna have all these guys in
the top ten.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
I think there'll be a mak There'll be a case
for Joker in the top ten. They'll be a case
for Luca in the top ten, Steph in the top ten,
kd in the top ten.
Speaker 7 (32:17):
I mean, so, are you taking out Magic? Are you
taking out Larry Bird? Are you taking out Kareem? I mean,
I can't take those players out. You're not taking out
Eric Jordan. So I just named five right there? Are
you talking Hakeem Elijah On now you're talking about is
Hakeem on his way out? I mean that's hard to do.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
I know, but I got Are.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
You taking.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
No? I can't take out Are you taking out Kobe?
Speaker 3 (32:44):
No?
Speaker 4 (32:45):
Are you taking out Tim Duncan? Yes?
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Yes, I would put Steph in over Tim Duncan.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
I cannot do that. I cannot.
Speaker 7 (33:03):
I will say this, I cannot take out someone who
is the best at their position over Stephan Curry.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Who's the greater shooter of all time?
Speaker 7 (33:13):
What position is the greatest power forward of all time?
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Steph Curry changed basketball?
Speaker 4 (33:20):
I agree?
Speaker 7 (33:21):
I said that, Wow, five chips versus four chips, because
you got to count those two.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
How many MVPs for Tim Duncan two or three? Two
and two for Curry? Back to back? Two?
Speaker 3 (33:40):
Yeah? Would you take Kad over Tim Duncan?
Speaker 7 (33:46):
No?
Speaker 3 (33:46):
Okay, no, would you take Joker.
Speaker 7 (33:52):
Over Tim Duncan? The only thing missing from the Joker
is another championship. Once he gets to two championships, then
we can have this discussion right now. No, okay, yeah,
he has the MVPs and he'll have the stats.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
The only thing missing from the Jokers resumes are.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Chips because I have to put burden magic together. Yeah, okay,
they take one on? Yes, okay, yeah.
Speaker 4 (34:18):
Okay, good that helps me out there. Good.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
Yeah, It's it's tough to break into that top ten
with it just feels like there's guys.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
So according So is a Cheam Elijah one out for you.
Speaker 3 (34:34):
Over Steph Curry?
Speaker 4 (34:36):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (34:37):
Yeah? And a Caame is one of my favorite players
of all.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
Mine too, mine too.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Wow, But I got to be objective with this. I
it's tough to say that Karl Malone. I'm taking Carl
Malone out.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
It wouldn't be in my top ten. Okay, he wouldn't
be in my top ten.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
Okay, would you say, what is Bill Russell.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
See Bill Ruff wouldn't probably be in my top ten
or will. I don't know if what would be in
my top ten. Shaq would be at my top ten.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
Okay, we'd have to go modern erab.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
So seventies and up.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
Yeah, okay, it'd be like seventy five to now because
but then you've got to decide with Oscar and Jerry
West and they may not make that list either.
Speaker 4 (35:21):
It wouldn't be in my top ten.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
All right until the next time, right, I'll give you
plenty plenty of time to do some phone work here.
Reg will be on the call tonight with Noah Eagle
and Jamal Crawford. It's the Spurs and the Grizzlies at
eight eastern on NBC.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
Thank you, Reg, did or love you?

Be in Vegas for Thursday and Friday. Is there maction tonight, Pauline?
Do we know if there's football tonight?
Speaker 5 (36:16):
Of course there's maction. This is America, Dan, Let's check
what the schedule is. I have for you. Oh, a
trifecta of games? Wow, Akron Bowling Green Massachusetts, Ohio. UMass
is the only team in America win. Yeah, and they're
getting thirty three and a half to night, so it
(36:36):
could be unlikely.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Doesn't sound like they're gonna get their windows feel good?
Speaker 5 (36:40):
You know it's pretty good and Western Michigan Northern Illinois.
We love directional matchups.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Billy and New Orleans. Hi, Billy. What's on your mind today?
Speaker 4 (36:49):
Hey?
Speaker 12 (36:50):
D And first on Long Time a Jay Glazer five
to seven, A Perfume commercial Model one forty we have, Sorry, Dan,
I know we have separation Saturday. Today seems kind of
like Loyalty Tuesday on the Dan Patrick Show, the discussions
(37:10):
about Lane Kiffin, the discussions about Paul schemes. You know,
I was just wondering what your perspective is if you're
one of these schools that are pursuing the coach. When
does one of these schools.
Speaker 13 (37:24):
Realize, Hey, if this guy is willing to cheat, on
those guys with us. What's going to stop them from
cheating on us in a few years.
Speaker 1 (37:36):
There aren't many jobs that are higher than LSU. If
if you're going to cheat on LSU, uh, you know
a Virginia Tech job, you could cheat because you could
get a job maybe Clemson or something like that. Just
throwing out examples, but you know most of these schools
I get Notre Dame. Is Marcus Freeman going to be
(37:59):
looking at Penn State? Or throw out? Is there another
marquee job the Ohio State that would be better than
Notre Dame? And I would say no, Bud, Brian Kelly
went to LSU. Yes, Mormon.
Speaker 8 (38:12):
Why do we keep throwing the word loyalty around, loyalty around?
They're running a business. This is business. This isn't about
being loyal because when you don't do well, they fire you.
You sign a contract that they don't keep you. So
I don't know what the loyalty thing is about.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Don't you get paid?
Speaker 8 (38:31):
Yeah, and if you don't do your job, you get fired.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
But you get paid yeah, yeah, So they're loyal to you.
Speaker 4 (38:41):
Until they fire you.
Speaker 8 (38:43):
But that's what I'm saying. If your contract is four
years and after two years you're not doing well and
they fire you.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Who I thought we had a contract.
Speaker 1 (38:51):
Okay, I realize there's no loyalty either way, but I'm
hoping that you do have a conscience, like you are
fair to a school. You're fair to those kids, and
those kids are fair to you. I know it seems
to be long gone and I live in another era,
but there's part of me that, you know, I just
(39:13):
hate to see college football so fragmented with players. Coaches
and coaches started this. It wasn't the players. Players couldn't transfer,
They'd make you sit out. They did everything to prevent
players from having any upward mobility. And coaches have been
doing this for a long long time. So it started
with the coaches. Monica and Raleigh.
Speaker 3 (39:35):
Hi, Monica, Hey, Dana.
Speaker 14 (39:38):
Dennett's so, I'm so glad that there was a buffer
between me and Reggie Miller because he is amazing and
always love his interviews. I was calling about the Jamar
Chase incident and the spitting incident. I think it's I
think sportsmanship should have been taught back in Pee Week League,
(39:58):
you know, So is it something that these guys these days,
It's like, Okay, Yeah. I mean, you're since the day
you were seven years old and you were athletic, but
now it's like, okay, be a sportsman. Have good sportsmanship
at the end of the day is what makes us
all love sports. And to Reggie's Miller argument with the
top ten of the all time basketball graades, I'd say
(40:22):
we have to consider the implementation of the three point line.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
Yeah, it's tricky when you start arguing. It's like when
you're going to argue about modern day quarterbacks as opposed
to those who played in the sixties in the seventies,
just different game. You know, a running back back then
to a running back now. Those running backs you know,
put up big, big yards, but the game was different.
Speaker 5 (40:43):
Yeah, Paul, right, you're the argument could be who's the
greatest player and who has the greatest resume. Those are
two different things because like in my lifetime, Larry Bird
is in my top two, but his resume is not
top two even though he won a lot, because it
is not as long as others.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
Yeah, you know, we get into these arguments and there's
no you know, way to win an argument. You know,
it just feels like everybody's got an opinion. But yeah,
I love a kim Olijua, and so much so that
I told Patrick Ewing to his face that I liked
the kim Olijawan more than I did Patrick Ewing. But
(41:22):
Steph Curry's had a bigger impact. Steph Curry is the
greatest shooter of all time, and you got four titles.
You could put him in there ahead of Tim Duncan.
I mean he changed a sport world wide. So if
I look at impact, you're the greatest shoot. There's no arguing.
Nobody argues he's the greatest shooter of all time. I
(41:42):
mean he's got to be in the top ten. That's
what we learn. Brought to you by tire Rack Shift
