Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to Waken Jake, a special Playoffs edition. Myself,
Jake Story, Ellie, David Mendelssohn going through the wide world
of sports, mostly baseball. I'm gonna shoot you straight today
it's baseball playoffs. We will hit some football on the
way out. It was a fun NFL weekend offense came
back and it was a sick college football game Oregon

(00:24):
in Ohio State that I got to watch the full thing,
so that was kind of cool. But let's do the
baseball playoffs. As we record this, we are about an
hour and a half from Yankees guard Dogs Game one,
so everything I'm about to say about that will probably
go out the window by the time you may even
be listening to this. So that's always a fun game
to play, and even the scarier game to play, which

(00:48):
may have me either recording a precursor to this or
just deleting the whole damn thing. The New York Mets
have a six to one lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
I'll do some Yanks' thoughts first because I can be
high and tight with them, and if you want to
hear more Yankees thoughts, you guys know you can go
check out talking Yanks or even talking baseball. Get Jimmy's thoughts,

(01:11):
get Trev's thoughts, get the whole thing on it, because
if you're a baseball fan this deep in the season,
we got three series left, four teams. So for the Yanks,
I'll say this, and maybe this is obnoxious Yankee fans stuff.
I don't think it's a must win Game one. Obviously

(01:32):
either team wants game one. There's the first hard hitting
analysis for you. But I think this for the Yankees
as a find out who Carlos rodon is. Carlos Roddan
came out in his first start, and he looked electric.
He looked like it was at a pace he couldn't
keep up, and spoiler, he could not. He ends up
getting knocked around. It was the one game the Yankees
lost to the Kansas City Royals. The Yankees also in

(01:57):
that game, we're matching up against co Reagans, and Theankes
have struggled against left hand and starting pitching. I said,
and again I don't want this to come off in
a peacocky way, but if there was a game in
the Yankees Kansas City series that I circled as the
game that the Royals would win. It would have been
Game two. It would have been Rodan's first playoff star
and more so, it would have been first playoff start

(02:18):
as a Yankee. And Cole Reagan's how good he is
and how bad the Yankees were against lefties this year.
And that's being rude to Kansas City's home field advantage.
But are not home field advantage but their home field
where the Yankees did take those two games. The Cleveland
Guardians outlasted the Tigers in a fun game where the

(02:41):
bullpens ended up kind of getting exposed. That game was
won nothing for a while. They did get to Scoobs
and they got some insurance runs later too. But the
Guardians are a good baseball team. And it feels like
the way I've been saying, and we put out our

(03:01):
social media clip today from Talking Yanks, I believe. So
I shouldn't feel that rude about it because I'm a
Yankees fan. I'm wearing a Yankees hat. Derek Jeter hight
Chart is behind me, and you guys are subscribing to
the channel. We've seen some great growth this year. Thank
you guys. If you're not please subscribe. I am a
Yankees fan, the Guardians are good. They have one to

(03:23):
two starting pitchers. I think I'm being slightly rude to
Matthew Boyd, who has a nice MLB career and pitched
well this year. The Guardians limited him in Game five
against the Tigers. I think Matthew Boyd, especially with the
Yankees lefties start, he can give them one or two
good playoffs starts well Alex Cobb tonight, I don't really

(03:43):
think they'll need it. If Alex Cobb starts rolling, the
Guardians will be hunting for innings this playoffs. I was
surprised to see Ben Lively left off their roster again.
They do have Gavin Williams and young Joey Cantio. Who hey,
those guys are going to have to be important for
them at some point during this run that. Let's see

(04:06):
how that plays out for the Guardians. Their good bullpen
is good and they aren't gonna make errors in the field.
That if they get runs early against the Yankees starting pitching.
The Cleveland Guardians have been the best team against left
handed starting pitching this year. Carlos Rodon coming off of
his playoff start, the Guardians coming in a little more

(04:30):
fresh or active into this series having won a pressure
packed game on Saturday. This game won, there's a lot
of stars lining up for Cleveland. Now, with that being said,
it is baseball. Carlos Rodan could go out and throw
a gem tonight, and if he does Yankees World Series
on you know, it's obviously it's swirling. I have a

(04:52):
bet at the DraftKings sportsbook. I bet the Yankees to
win the World Series before the season. I could cash
that out for some real money. Right now is they're
the favorites to come out of this series, and they
would have as good of a chance as either of
the National League teams. The Guardians. Jose Ramirez mashes lefties
one dots against righty's. He's like a high sevens ops.

(05:15):
That's a different player. Stephen Kwan slightly higher ops against lefties.
That was surprising. I don't think that really matters. I
think Stephen Kuan in playoff mode is Stephen Kwan that
he's that guy. But David fry Lane Thomas, I currently
think where those two are at vers lefties is more
important than Josh Naylor would be verse righties. And then

(05:37):
they've just got a hodgepodge of young talented defensive players
that if they contribute, it feels like bonus points for Cleveland,
where we know the Yankees are built differently than that
I have. This being a six game series, it just
feels like Cleveland's a good team. And you know it's
tough to take your Yankees blinders off, but when I
try my best, like the Yankees are the better team

(05:59):
in this year. Their bullpen was incredible, incredible against kans
They didn't give up a run, right.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Don't believe they did it across all the games.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Start, across four playoff games, the Yankees bullpen did not
give up a run. They have the better ace in
this series. If you like ones, it's Biby versus Garrett Cole.
Tanner Biby a good young pitcher, Garrett Coles, Garrett Cole.
The Yankees have start maybe starting pitching depth. That's what
we're gonna find out is Carlos Rodin does he count
for that or is he kind of an uh oh,

(06:30):
get me one two times through the order guy. We
are going to see Luis Heel get a playoff start
and make sure you're watching. I don't know which way
it goes, but it's gonna be electric. He has electric stuff.
He hasn't pitched for a while. He's wild. I think
he led baseball in walks that his playoff start is
going to be one to watch in this, I don't

(06:53):
know what to do with this, and I forgot to
say it on our Talking Yanks series preview and I
didn't say it. I'm talking baseball either for whatever. For
a reason, the Yankees starting pitchers and I left out
Clark Schmidt there starts against Cleveland this year. They all
had a lot of walks. Clark Schmidt had a game
where I think he had five walks. I think Garrett
Cole the same. So I don't know if that's Guardians.

(07:16):
I don't know if that was a weird blip on
the radar, but something to watch. I thought it was
just weird going through the numbers and seeing that pop out. Also,
if you're a baseball fan, I do think I have
a new semi doppelganger that I believe in. I think
Brett Honeywell. I think we both have soft lips, kind
of a big nose, and intense eyebrows. I just posted

(07:37):
it in my Instagram story. He's also wearing a turtleneck
that I've been wearing a lot of turtlenecks lately that
there's something there. I don't fully know what it is,
but if you're on the Jake Doppelganger trade, you know
somewhere between me, Brock Purdy, Brent honeywell, there's something going
on there. I think there's an art maybe the Argentinian
goalie Emiliano or something. So that's a big update for

(08:01):
everyone on the Cleveland side again being a good baseball
team if they win this series, which let's be honest,
it's baseball. Like the Guardians win this series four out
of ten times, three out of ten times, they have
a lights out bullpen. If they get leads early, they

(08:21):
are going to be a problem. And let's see where
the Yankees' issues come into play. Will the Yankees bullpen
stop being perfect? You could say that for the Guardians.
I think the Yankees defense, we haven't seen it be
a liability. There is the one Anthony Volpi play in
the first game, but you know we haven't had a
Glabor Torres defensive moment. Ye, Anthony Rizzo is going to

(08:44):
be figuring it out on the fly at first base.
There's something there, right, I see where it's all coming
from I see where they're going.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
And on the shadows are in a helpful spot.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Miss my old my hair. Yeah, I think I think the
Guardians can put serious pressure on the Yankees by using
that talented bullpen, getting early leads and playing strong defense,
like they're not going to make a lot of mistakes
out there that the Yankees are going to have to

(09:16):
beat them with the long ball. And I do think
as this series plays out, I think that's going to
come into play, between the short porch, between Cleveland being
a sneaky hitters park this year. There's a great article
out there. I should bring it up. I quoted it
the other day Cleveland Baseball Stadium more home runs. Nice

(09:39):
Google search, Jake Baseball Perspectives. That's why I didn't have
it locked in. Go check it out. The ball is
traveling further home runs in twenty twenty four. There's an
increase of thirty percent at one point. It's a lot
of homers. They took out seats. There's a literal wind tunnel.
We talked about it throughout the year. Here little bit

(10:01):
that I think with the Yankees home runs hitters, home
run hitters, stanton you know, he found it last series.
Let's see every series of series to series Aaron Judge.
You know, if you're gonna put Stanton staying hot potentially
getting cold, you can put cold Judge being cold potentially
getting hot in Juan Soto. I think this could be
the Sodo series. He has amazing numbers against Alex Cobb.

(10:25):
I think the stadium is going to be turned up
a notch. Same with Cleveland for the Alcs. I mean,
it's a trip to go to the World Series. It
literally has turned up a notch. It's a little colder.
You can feel it in the air. It's gonna feel
a little bit more like playoff baseball. That Cleveland put
the pressure on the Yanks. Steal bases, get those runs
across early. Get to that twenty fifteen Kansas City Royals

(10:47):
where you are ahead and that good bullpen is coming
in and you're gonna have a couple chances to really
do something. The Yankees have some holes towards the bottom
in the middle of their lineup. Austin Wells had a
tough playoff series that you know, the Yankees drew a
lot of walks and they didn't score a lot of
runs against Kansas City, and that was a formula throughout

(11:08):
this year and Stanton is a big part of that.
Austin Wells is a big part of that. Jazz has
to show up where it gets. The stat that I
stumbled into today, I should tweet for likes Gen Carlos Stanton.
When he is in the Yankees starting lineup this year,
they are seventy three and forty that's really good. You

(11:28):
forget their bad stretch was without him. Joe's McFly pointed
out on the pregame show today when he's there, he's
a difference maker for that lineup, and that's completely true,
and it makes sense he's Gencarlos Stanton that, Yeah, I've
got Yankees in six. I don't think I have blinders on.
I just think the Yankees are the better team, and

(11:49):
I think Vegas agrees with that. If the Yankees win
Game one, I do have this series over. And maybe
that's arrogant, maybe that's peacock stuff, but I just think
with Cole lined up for two and six, I think
the Yankees would be set up really good. That Hey,
we don't know what Luis Heal will be. We're not
sure what Rodin will be but you could say that

(12:11):
about Cleveland starters as well. The Yankees have the deeper lineup.
Let's see, Cleveland has been a little bit of a
punching bag in recent history for the New York Yankees
in the playoffs. So hey, they might have that crowd,
might have some vimen vigor. Jose Ramirez might have some
vimen vigor. I'm not ruling out the Guardians if they
take Game one. I mean, there's a good chance this

(12:34):
thing's going seven. Let's see how it plays out. Meanwhile,
the New York Mets, and god, if you are in
this industry, which is maybe a couple of you are,
and I'm not trying to say it in an obnoxious way,
Recording for live sports can be scary sometimes. As the

(12:58):
Mets are up six to one and they're the New
York Mets, they've had an amazing postseason. This has been
the most delicious Mets team arguably in like franchise history.
Is that what it says? I mean, they've you know,
I the two thousand team, though it.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Was fun twenty fifteen, they made it further than they
made it so far.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Sure you should have seen ben ayag Bayani play. It's
Electric Timo Perez. This Mets team has a lot of
the good juice going. They're up six to one after
getting shut out in Game one, and maybe that's where
I should start. The Dodgers tie the streak for most
consecutive playoff innings thirty three, I believe with a shutout

(13:43):
that goes into the Padres that how how much did
teams like that lineup? The San Diego Padres? I picked
them to go to the World Series when I was
filling out my bracket, I kind of didn't have a plan.
I was just kind of like doing it live. The
Padres got beat by the Dodgers, and Manda's that sting,

(14:03):
and I like appreciated it, but I didn't. I didn't
appreciate it as a Yankee fan, being like, that would
be us losing to the Red Sox. Whoever your team's
rival is. What are some of the other good baseball rivalries?

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Cubs Cardinals, Cubs Cardinals.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
That that's I think that one plays for sure. Braves Mets, Like,
I don't know, you start doing the intra division stuff
and your stuff.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
That's like I was about to say, Dodgers, Giants, but
we're just talking about Dodgers Padres being that right now.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
You know that our social team was laughing because last year, uh,
they did a is are the Rangers and Astros is
the new biggest rivalry in baseball? And you didn't hear
much about that this year that I feel bad for fathers, fans,
uh and the Dodgers. And how about my guy, Jack Flaherty,
seven innings pitch shut piece, Game one NLCS. My guy

(14:59):
is so liidifying how nice his basement is gonna be,
and good for him. He put in the work this
offseason and he was really pitching fun Like he threw
a couple fastball sinkers up there at eighty nine, and
he's got more in the tank than that. I think
he punched that. The famous Manny strikeout from the series
before that was ninety five, I believe. But he was

(15:21):
mixing up his slider sweeper, which I I don't know.
It feels like crafty. It feels like pitching needs to
do more of that, like don't throw the same slider
sweeper every time. He was throwing it in the mid
to high seventies. Sometimes he was threw a couple eighty five,
eighty six, and that's a good way to keep the
batters off of it. The Mets really only had one

(15:44):
chance and they ran their way out of it. The
ki K Deek got Jesse Winker kind of in broken
controller mode, saw someone comment that it got me good
because it was it was funky, and he got got
And the Dodgers they got out early, and they got
out often, and they added tack on runs, which that

(16:06):
is a sign of a good team. They kind of
took out the hope of the Mets and they won
that game nine to nothing. So if you're the Mets,
you come into Game one and you're like, all right, well,
the first thing we need to do is get rid
of this scoreless streak because now we're in the action
pop and so what happens. Francisco Lindor leadoff homer just

(16:27):
such an incredible year in season from him that the
one and two. You know, we did a lot on
Bobby Wit and Judge the one and two in the
al MVP. This NLCS, I think Shoha and Lindor are
going to be your one and two. They're both in this.
Lindor gets the homer in the second inning, Tyrone Taylor

(16:47):
with the big double to make it to nothing, and
then Mark Vientos, who is becoming a star on the
scene and it feels like he has staying power. I
don't want this to be huge shots five and it's
you know, in the over unders. This year I did horrible.
I did really bad, comically bad. He was like eleven

(17:09):
and nineteen. The only thing that like I really could
hang my hat on was the Texas Rangers. I just
I saw Evan Carter and why at Langford in the
middle of the lineup. Remember how much of a star
Evan Carter was last year, Like he was invincible for
the Texas Rangers. Wasn't this year And he's still very
young and I'm sure he bounces back. There was something

(17:30):
about it. Again, I don't want to use the word fluky,
because I still think Evan Carter's gonna be a part
of many baseball seasons. We saw it with Randy Rosereina,
like you see it when guys have such a big postseason,
You're like, I don't know, does it all scratch and
come together? Then tost Man, it just feels like that

(17:51):
guy has whatever it is and he's a big reason
Mets fans have been at grips with Alonso leaving next year.
I think you could set him in at third or
first if you need it. He's got the look, he
plays the part, and he hits the grand Slam to
make it six nothing Mets in the top of the second,

(18:11):
And with that swing, he gave the Mets a ninety
one point four got up to ninety five ninety six
percent win probability. And I know you might be confused.
We're not win probability people. I think it just has
to be used at the right moment, and that moment
is to show you that as I'm recording this, the

(18:34):
bases are loaded for keik Hernandez, who is the second
highest postseason ops.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
He would be the winning run.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Right now, the bases are loaded against philm Aton that
this has a chance. You know, there was a lot
of fun conversations in our office a second ago, a
lot of Mets fans that are going to games this
week that were like, man, one to one is a
very different than two to zero, and oh my god,

(19:03):
we are seconds away from devastation that I don't know.
I think I might have to stop talking at this
point and we might have to talk some football. Come
back and put a little adjunc note in here because
this is scary season for the Mets. I will do
this for one second because this is as I'm watching live,

(19:25):
so this is always a good post live reaction. Mayton
Vientos bobbles it to second for one down to first.
I believe they got the double play. It looks like
they might review it. That's the beauty of baseball people.
As it remains, it is six ' three. New York
Mets hold the lead in a massive moment there, but

(19:46):
it's a three run game that I was gonna owing
ah about the Mets and how they've changed the series,
Like splitting in LA was massive for them, having a
home game three playoff game when you're down to I
know the feeling. I went to the Yankees Astros game
where they were down two oh to the bad guys,

(20:07):
the Astros. That stadium wanted juice and it never got it.
They got their throat stepped on. For the Mets, it
would have been the same thing. Like the Dodgers are
still the Dodgers, you know, Like they signed Shoheo Tani
this offseason. They brought in taoscar as a bonus piece.
Tyler Glass. Now ya, I'm a Moto doesn't get mentioned

(20:29):
enough for what he's been as a part of their postseason.
In a massive Game five against San Diego, that star Wow,
good stretch by Alonso. So you know what I'm probably
gonna do. I'm probably gonna talk football for a couple minutes,
and then we'll give some final thoughts on the Mets,

(20:50):
because I just feel so dirty to myself and Mets
fans if I continue down this road. It's just way
too dangerous. So yeah, let's uh, well, you'll probably hear
me talk about football in a minute, but you'll probably
get five more minutes on the Mets in the future

(21:10):
right now, but I don't know that yet. What subscribe?
All right, I probably teed it up pretty poorly before,
and I still am now. But the Mets and Dodgers
are now in the bottom of the eighth inning. The
Mets have a three run lead, so they got out
of trouble before. Still not safe. Four or five six
coming up for the for the Dodgers as the Mets

(21:33):
try to hold on that if they get any action,
that means the top of the Dodgers lineup is gonna
come back. So I'll just be honest with the people.
We're about to go live stream and get ready for
the Yanks. I think the Mets, you win right, horrifying.
So I'll lay that out. If the Mets have won

(21:54):
huge and we've got a great series, and I would
bet we're going seven. I would. I think the Mets
lineup and how their team is built, with their starting pitching.
Getting to land a Knack today was big for them
because he's a guy that the Dodgers kind of need
innings from him or someone else. So the fact they
got to him, I think that's important. The more they

(22:17):
see these Dodger relievers blah blah blah, you hear that
about every series. This Mets lineup is real. Vientos is real.
And if it's one one at City Field tomorrow, that
place is going to be a madhouse for three days,
three days that Mets fans did not think they would
have this year. By golly and the Mets. It's it's

(22:38):
a dirty thing to say the Mets are good. This
isn't just a punchy upstart nowhere. The Mets are good.
And if it is one one, I think we're going seven,
all right. Follow up? If the Mets blow this, it's over.

(22:59):
It's so hell for you. Don't come back from something
like that, especially if it's gonna be some of the
bad boys for the Dodgers. So I can't wait to
post this and I can't wait to see the comments
after whatever happens in la is about to happen. A
little scared for Mets fans that I'm putting any of
this into the ether, But it's time to go, so

(23:20):
we gotta go. If the Dodgers have done that, I
mean Dodgers in four or five, that's how sick of
a sport this is sometime.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Oh you'll like that.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Oh God, all right, thank you guys. Again, here's for football.
It's a weird one, all right. A little football weekend
recap for you, and I'm gonna give you a little
college football. If you guys have no clue, A lot
of you do. I'm just a sports junkie that this Saturday,
I was like, I'm watching college football in the Red

(23:52):
River Rivalry, a game I got to go to once.
Good experiences in Dallas, Oklahoma and Texas. Every year you
see the Burnt Orange and the Sooner Red come into town.
This year Texas is ranked number one, Oklahoma number eighteen.
My Oklahoma buddies not too excited about this Sooners team,

(24:12):
mostly because they're a good quarterback last year is playing
for Oregon, which we'll talk about a little bit. But
they're also you know, some of the comments about their
O line are comments that I don't think I can
say on YouTube going against Texas, who's the number one
team in the country. Texas is back and they showed
it in a big way. Thirty four to three. Thirty

(24:36):
four to three. They've got Quinn Ewers at quarterback, who's
you know, has a chance to be a top ten,
top five, top one guy. Like it's not decided yet,
which is kind of a fun story of this college
football season. They have a lot of talent all over
the field, and I think they're a true number one
right now. They gave them the business thirty four to three.

(24:57):
A team worth watching yours is far Man He's got
kind of good footwork in the pocket. He navigates it
like a pro quarterback. And I hate to be rude
to him, but you arch Manning, Like I don't you know,
if he gets banged up, you get arch Manning. So
Texas is a fun watch in Oklahoma. Both Oklahoma teams

(25:21):
this year little down, sorry for everyone from the Sooner State.
Is that right? Sorry pokes if that's wrong. The big
one from the day, well before I get to the
big one, which is Oregon Ohio State LSU O Miss.
These games were on at the same time. I was

(25:41):
flipping between them. I was driving my mother in law insane.
Sorry Jenny, but I was being that guy in my apartment.
Is my birthday weekend? I want to watch two football games.
I was flipping back and forth every commercial. Give me
the other one. This game goes to overtime, Ole Miss LSU.

(26:02):
In this LSU team, Nuss Meyer is a weird watch.
The stat line will tell you twenty two for fifty
one for three thirty seven and three touchdowns. Ole Miss
is fun. Lane Kiffin. I remember when Lane Kiffin was
the young hot shot, and now he's becoming like the
old veteran SEC guy. It's kind of fun to see
he has a good Ole Miss Running Rebels team. Maybe no,

(26:25):
they're not the running Rebels. That's UNLV Jackson Dart at quarterback,
Electric name USC transfer good running back Ulysses Bentley. The
fourth great name team LSU. I mentioned NUSS Meyer's in
a weird spot. Brian Kelly has never felt like the

(26:46):
guy guy there Kyron Lacy in a school that's known
for their wide receiver history. He's the guy on LSU.
You have to know Aaron Anderson with a big game too.
But what you really need to know and I do
want you to hang on the Brian Kelly part of
this because you may not like him, but they just
want a game at home against a top ten ranked team.

(27:08):
Always just felt like a slightly weird fit or slash coach.
O just felt like a dream fit. But that didn't
end up panning out by the end. They go to
overtime college football overtime rules if you don't know, each
team gets the ball and you get a shot on
your side of the field. If you put together a drive,
cool and they just go back and forth basically till

(27:30):
you figure it out. That wasn't the good description of it.
If you want the good description of it, And this
is some genius business marketing. They had Rhys Davis do
an overtime rules video. It's just like you get the ball,
I'm try five and the teams go back and forth
if they score, blah blah, blah. The whole thing was
sponsored by cheese Its and they had funny little cheese
at graphics that showed the overtime and I was like,

(27:51):
that's genius. Before the season, someone was like, Hey, every
overtime game, why don't we do a rules video and
you'll get a little cheese it'sat It's a little business
won on one there. Anyways, So they're talking about it,
and you know in college football overtime you usually want
to defend first because if the other team gets a

(28:12):
fourth and four, they're probably gonna kick a field goal
because you need to get points on the board. You
don't want to put a zero because then the other
team can almost run three runs set up their field
goal and you can lose. So the other thing that
was important here, and I was laughing when they initially
mentioned it on the broadcast because LSU. I think if

(28:32):
you go through the schools and the great universities, you'd
be like, yeah, that's probably one of the better home
fields in the country. You should have seen it. They said,
watch this. If LSU gets to choose, they're going to
defend on that side of the field because on that
side of the field is where their band is and
on that side of the field is where they're crazy

(28:53):
fans are. And if you haven't been to an SEC
game a you should, but you know there's some chivalry there,
Like it's almost the other teams fans, a chunk of
them are going to show up. It's just a matter
of how courteous you are. So they went to the
other side of the field, away from the old Miss
fans with the band and the crazy LSU fans, and

(29:13):
it was insane. They couldn't get the first couple snaps off.
The place was nuts that it was an actual home
field advantage that ends up giving them a win over
a top ten team. A top ten team, they got
a win because of their home field advantage. It was

(29:34):
a really cool thing to watch. Kelsey Winger, who's attached
to our company, what's that mean? A friend? I texted
her and I was like, that was sick and she
was like, it's the best. It's the best. Obviously some
bias there, but that was a cool watch. And all
of this is to set up for the third time
Oregon Ohio State, Oregon, you know, was one of the

(29:59):
sneaky college football sexy picks to come in the year.
If you're not picking a Bama, A Georgia or Ohio State.
Oregon was a team that popped up and they scared
people off at first because they barely survived Idaho and
Boise State to start the season. Yo, although the Boise
State running back Jinti saying that weird. He's worth the watch.

(30:22):
He starts out instead of your normal running back position,
hands on his hips. He just stands bored. They were
comparing it to Mike Myers the Killer. It's kind of
cool and they were like, why do you do that.
He's like, I don't know, and that's sports and he's
the best running back in the country by far. This
was cool, man, because I mentioned LSU being a great

(30:43):
place Oregon. Their home field is like a legendary one
Autsen you know. I used to always think it was cool.
In video games and college football video games, they used
to rank the best home fields and that was always
up there, and I was like, that's cool. I don't
think of the state of Oregon like that. I kind
of think of the crazy people on the Bayou like that.
I don't think of the nice tree folk in Oregon

(31:05):
like that amazing environment, and I think it was kind
of like, can the Ducks keep Ohio State in this one?
And with the home field, like everyone thought Ohio State
was the better team. Oregon kind of hadn't clicked yet,
would they click? Dan Lanning, their head coach, is a
really cool, inspiring guy. He kind of toes the line

(31:28):
between hard, oh and super cool and I kind of
didn't know where I landed. I've landed on Dan Lanning cool.
He's he's got a cool story to him. A lot
of these guys, do you know he's got I wouldn't
say he's got the Lions coach Dan Campbell thing going,
but he's he's intense, He's about Oregon. And there's a
really cool shot of them they win. Spoiler of him

(31:49):
just in the middle of like he does his postgame
interview and there's a bunch of the fans around the
field and all that. He finishes his postgame interview and
he puts his hand up and like the crowd erupts.
It was just it was super cool. He's the king
of his domain. The final play will be a tough
one in Ohio State history. Will Howard their quarterback that

(32:11):
everyone is about this year and he's fun he's a
physical runner, he's pretty intent. He tries to go down
to give them So there's a tough pass interference call
offensive that sets them back. You don't see that a lot.
It was the right call. Freshman receiver, arguably, Jeremiah Smith

(32:33):
get to know the name because it's going to go
as an asterisk for him. He looks like an absolute stud.
People are saying him and the kid from Alabama are
the two best wide receivers in the country as freshmen.
They get that penalty. They're trying to do something to
get a little closer in a field goal range. So
the quarterback Will Howard tries to run for it, and

(32:54):
he looks at the clock and you see him look
at the clock and there's about two seconds left. He slides,
tries to call timeout. It's zeroes. It still would have
been a really tough field goal, but yeah, they would
have had to do He would have had to break
a little earlier. He would have had to dive forward
a little earlier, called the timeout a little earlier. It
doesn't happen. They don't even get the kickoff. Ducks win.
They had a lot of open receivers running around and

(33:18):
it was just a crazy environment and it was cool
to see. It was the first time to top five teams,
Oh my god, Brett Honeywell freaking out on the mound.
Us first time to top five teams had met in Oregon.
It lived up to the environment. And here's what I'll say,
Ryan Days, the Ohio State head coach, he has won

(33:43):
a ton of football games, a lot of football games,
and he's kept Ohio State as a relevant power. Which
We've seen teams come and go, and they have up
and down years, but they always kind of are top
of the list recruiting wise. They always have an incredible team.
They get measured differently, right, we measure them on their

(34:04):
Michigan game and we measure them on their college football
playoff performance. Man, you gotta win the big games, because
how many of Ohio State games are They gonna easily
out talent you all of them. And I guess you
could put that in the Ryan Day goodbucket, right, like, Hey,

(34:25):
we can still keep Ohio State up here. We're gonna
have all the top athletes. We're gonna have essentially whoever
we want, unless they want Bama or Georgia they get
dominated or excuse me, they have not won. So that
means Ohio State is gonna have two games every year
where they're like in it where their talent is equal

(34:48):
on the field, and man, in those two games every
year or so, it's not great. And I don't know
what you do. I get the argument, and I think
my guy Risillo is team like Ryan Day's been great
for them, you know, the devil you don't know. I
don't know, man, I think you can keep that recruiting

(35:09):
up with other people, and like, what advantage does Ryan
Day give you on the field. I don't know. And
I think they're two and five in their last five
games or seven games against top ten teams or top
five teams, which again that's you know, that's a high standard.
We're talking top five, top ten teams, but that should
be Ohio State standard, right that. I don't know. Ryan

(35:33):
Day for whatever reason, I don't know, if it's the
rosy cheeks, the facial hair, not to target the guy.
This look doesn't work for me a lot of days.
But at a certain point you got to win those
big games, and Ryan Day and Ohio State just has
not happened. It feels uninspiring. Where Dan Lanning, on the
other side does and even Brian Kelly at LSU. I

(35:58):
realize they're in a funky spot right now. But he
won that game somehow. Brian Kelly, who made Notre Dame
relevant again, and where are they at right now? He
won that game at LSU, and I don't know. It
was just a weird juxtaposition for me. Brian Kelly feels
like he's won a lot of big games where Ryan

(36:21):
Day hasn't exactly felt that way. So that was Jakie
College football again. I was lost in the sauce this weekend,
and I'm really excited for the upcoming playoff format. I
want to see it. I said this with baseball's playoff format,
and I still don't know where I landed. Because we've
got three of the one in two seeds in this final.

(36:43):
So it felt like maybe we were slightly over reactionary.
Maybe we weren't. I don't know. I think we need
to see more. I do think the playoff format could
be tweaked even more.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
And entertainment wise, I have thoughts. But yeah, fairness, I'm
not ready to conclude it.

Speaker 1 (36:58):
It's been a good playoff, like there's been a lot
of good content to come out of it. I still
think the one and two seeds should get more of
an advantage pitching wise. We'll deal with that another time,
But like, what can be cool about this playoff format?
Because I agree with college football and the divisions, they
kind of stink. Like again, this was Ohio State, Oregon

(37:21):
in a Big Ten game, Texas and Oklahoma in the SEC,
like you know, they're Penn State and USC played a
Big Ten game. Some of it just feels weird, man,
And I realized that used to be the allure of
college football, Like you'd see these West Coast offenses and
the power in the SEC and the power of the
Big Ten and ooh, the accs up this year. Let's

(37:42):
see what that feels like. I realized that's kind of
gone and used to see those teams match up in
the bowl games and be like, ooh, what's gonna work here?
Is that gonna work against them? I realize that stinks
and money got in the way, and it's whatever, and
it is what it is, and that's kind of where
we're at with the college football playoffs. Also, you know,
if Ohio State had lost that game in previous years,
it would have been like they're probably out for the

(38:04):
national title game, or you know that with these losses,
the big boys aren't really gonna be hurt, Like Ohio
State's still gonna make the playoffs unless they really flunk
the dunk this year. That I get that, Like it
used to be one of those every game matters a
little more situation and that's gone. But I'll tell you

(38:26):
what would be sick and I you know, when it
comes to NCAA basketball brackets, I talk about the storylines
a lot, and it's always weird that somehow the coach
that left for a big program is facing his former
program in the second round. It's always weird, you know,
in those top sixty four matchups that some of these

(38:47):
storylines find themselves. It's a little bit the business of
the sport, and it's a little bit good for the sport.
And like if Okay, you made an eleven or twelve
at a certain point, win the game. Pat college football
has a chance to run into some really cool things.
If we get another Oregon Ohio State game, that's going

(39:08):
to be sick and they might meet in the Big
Ten championship, So we will see. But I think it's
where this college football format has a chance to be
really cool. Is that if we get the right rematches.
I think that's going to be sick man, because that's
I think we look forward to that in the NFL

(39:30):
and it's like, Oh, these teams played, and let's see
what happens when they run it back. Division teams playing
for the third time. I think college football has more
of a format for that now that I think can
be cool, and let's see if we get there. Maybe
I'm wrong and I want to see the format more
and maybe it feels icky. I think it's got a

(39:50):
chance to feel pretty cool. So that was kind of
a lot of college football before getting into the NFL.
So I'll be high and tight with it. A fun
NFL Sunday, And it started off Thursday. The forty nine
ers got back on track rock Purty Deebo with the

(40:11):
big play Purdy puts together. This was a big game
for the San Francisco forty nine ers. I you know,
I teed this up for you guys. Last week they
were two and three. This makes them five hundred to
three and three. Same with Seattle. You know, funny looking
back at three and oh Seattle, funny looking to see
where the Saints are right now and remembering those storylines

(40:32):
and where they were. It's an overreaction business in league,
but yeah, sometimes things do come back to earth. Your guy,
Isaac Garndo ten carries for ninety nine yards for your
San Francisco forty nine ers, George Kittle with two touchdowns.
How about Kittle and Mark Andrews back at it this

(40:52):
week in the world of fantasy tight ends. Yeah, I mean,
I think the Seahawks are just in this weird mode
right now where I think they are like five hundred
and is that could when you're looking at a team
like the Niners every year who have a chance to pop,
the Rams usually feel like they have a chance to pop.

(41:12):
Although their season bye week saw Matthew Stafford briefly on
a FaceTime with Trevor Ploof, I pushed my boundaries not
with him, but with their wags were there. Trevor brought
the FaceTime to the table with everyone hanging out, which

(41:32):
is a horrible spot for me. I haven't met these
people besides Trev's wife.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
What's supposed to be the winmen?

Speaker 1 (41:38):
Oh, let me entertain you. I'm a little guy through
the phone. I did say I wish I was there
petting all of you, which you know that kind of
set the tone. They're a group of attractive people drinking wine. Anyways, Seahawks,
ye ye, with the Niners getting back on track. Let's
see where they've got coming up. Wow, Chiefs game. Okay, okay,

(42:01):
I'll check that out, and then they get right against
the Cowgirls. Hello, New York Sports. Let's go to Saturday.
You guys know where I start. It's in London, and
I might have to start writing some Caleb Williams apologies,
Caleb bald out. This week, the Bears are four and two,
where the Jaguars dropped to one in five. They have

(42:24):
another London game going against the Patriots. We might see
another head coach not make it after their London game.
Caleb four touchdown passes DeAndre Swift, looking a lot better
on the ground, like it's coming together. Cole Comet, speaking
of your tight ends. He scores two. Keenan Allen, Yeah,

(42:44):
I gave him the spot star in Fantasy felt real good.
I pushed two good buttons this week in Fantasy felt
really good. And it's pathetic because I also feel awful
when I make the wrong move and it's so dumb.
It is so dumb Jacksonville. It's getting ugly quick. Travis
Etn you know, supposed to be kind of one of

(43:07):
the better young running backs in the league. Right He's
gonna be the bell cow for them. Three carries minus
one yard. I think he had another fumble in this game.
It's I don't know, it's getting ugly quick in Jacksonville.
And I did listen to the PMT boys this morning
and they were like, every year the Nick Foles Doug
Peterson combo for a Super Bowl is getting crazier and crazier. Yeah,

(43:32):
and it really was. That takes us out of London time.
Packers Cardinals. I told you, guys, I thought this one
would be a little more exciting. I thought the Cardinals
might keep up and have an offensive shootout. Instead, it
was pretty one sided. And how about your Packers man,
Jordan Love with four tds and Watson Reid and Romeo

(43:54):
Dubbs news he had two touchdowns. So all three of
those the Green Bay wide receivers you don't know what
to do with fantasy wise, they all did their thing.
Josh Jacobs not his best game, but the Packers look good.
Remember Jordan Love went down in a game played in
South America, and it was like, what's gonna go on?

(44:16):
Packers are sitting pretty at four and two Cardinals, two
and four Colts, Titans. I told you, guys, I thought
this one might have a chance to be you're exciting.
Thirty five to thirty three, not so much. Twenty to seventeen.
Choe Flacco gets another win. He just threw one up
to Michael Pittman. It was It was kind of ridiculous,

(44:38):
and it's where Michael Pittman man, when you've got a
dude like that. Flacco literally just threw it straight in
the air, jump ball. He got it. Tony Pollard is
one of my favorite running backs to watch play. It
just feels like his hips are electric. It's kind of weird.
Titans one and four. Will levis falling, falling out of

(44:58):
favor in Tennessee. Texans beat up on the Patriots. We
get Drake May, but we get hope for Patriots fans.
And I did call him Caleb May last episode, and
I'm sorry, oh, no name, It was Williams Drake May.
Drake May three touchdown passes and they were like pretty balls,
so hey, they get routed by the now five and
one Texans, who put up a forty one spot on them.

(45:20):
Joe Mixon somehow continues to be underrated in the Texans
five and one. They're gonna be the team this year
that wins thirteen to fourteen games, and I think they
do get bounced in the playoffs early. I'm gonna keep
riding that until I'm wrong. Speaking of the Saints are
two and oh. They're scoring forty five points a game. Man.

(45:41):
I know Derek Carr was out for this one, but
the Saints had a twenty seven point second quarter that
made everyone think, holy cow, we might have something here.
The Tampa Bay Bucks four and two. Chris Godwin, don't
forget about him. That dude is a baller Baker with
some big plays. They hang a fifty one burger in

(46:01):
New Orleans, historically a tough place to play and usually
has pretty solid defense. The Buccaneers, man, they they might
have a little recipe bruin down there. I was a
little skeptical. I'm starting to drink some Falcons kool aid,
but I think the Bucks might just be an actually
good football team, and like Baker might have found, I

(46:23):
don't know if it's a forever home but it kind
of feels like home Eagles, Browns told you this was
gonna be a disaster either way, and the Eagles. The
scoreboards shouldn't say twenty to sixteen. Well a, the Browns
should have either not kicked that field goal and tried
to score a game tying touchdown because they didn't get
the rock back. The Eagles also had a field goal

(46:44):
block return for a touchdown, which that would have been
That's a ten point swing, so when you see sixteen
to twenty, that actually could have been nine to twenty
seven or so. So it's still not pretty with the Eagles. Syrian,
he's yelling at fans. It's getting bizarre. It's not fun.
Eagle fans normally like to be loud. They're kind of

(47:06):
being quiet because they don't love what's going on. They
do love having aj brown back. He was that guy
six for one to sixteen in a tuddy Eagles are
three and two, Browns one and five, and the Deshaun stuff.
We talked about it. Nope, unwatchable. Some of it's historically bad.
It's insane. Ravens Commanders teed up as the game of

(47:27):
the weekend the Beltway Bowl. Ravens get it done to
improve to four and two. You guys know they won
me over z A. Flowers as his big game nine
for one thirty two all might have been in the
first half. Tractor Sito, Derrick Henry for one thirty two
and two scores, Lamar doing his thing throughout Commanders and

(47:49):
Jaden They you know they fought to make this look
a little closer. Their defense is not on par and
one of my favorite names in sports, Dean Peas, is
back being the de coordinator for the Ravens and people
are wondering if that's what gave them a stronger performance
in this game. Ravens, I still think they're my my

(48:10):
current Super Bowl team. Steelers are somehow foreign two as
they dogwalk the Raiders. Nause had a couple good runs
in this one. Nag can be a tough watch some games.
He was fun in this one. Steelers are foreign two.
Their defense again is strong, interception block, punt like force fumble.

(48:33):
They were two force fumbles. I believe they were the
Steelers defense. TJ. Watt is like a historic all time
player that get ready for some TJ. Watt JJ Watt
sports discussions at some point in the future. Lions Cowboys who.
Cowboys are zero and three at home this year and

(48:54):
they've gotten wrecked every time. Forty seven to nine. David
Mottgomery looking electric after he gets a nice extension, which
again the Montgomery Gibbs stuff kind of weird from a
fantasy perspective slash where they drafted Gibbs, but it's working
man and they blew out the Cowboys. Hutchinson with the

(49:16):
tough leg injury in this one, but the Lions are
four and one. They look dominant. They are one of
the most fun watches between how they run the ball.
Jamison Williams another big tight end game as it was
the name Laporta. It was his only catch, but it
was fifty two yards for a touchdown. Not a bad
way to do it. And the Cowboys what is going

(49:40):
on there? It's gonna be funny to watch this NFL
NFC East playout as it always is. Cowboys, g Men,
Eagles are getting weird. The Washington football team actually looking
pretty good. The Falcons four and two, thirty eight points
against the Carolina Panthers. But the Panthers, they you know,

(50:02):
they put on a scare in this game for a
little bit. Ends up not mattering. Tyler Alsier and Bijon
both did their thing on the ground. Owl's year for
one oh five and a score, Bijon for ninety five
and two. I kirk has become one of my favorite
players to watch. Oddly enough, I'm shocked by that a

(50:23):
lot of the times. But go get them, Kirky and
the Falcons. I think they're good. Them in the bucks
Man cue me up for those games or the second
game of that series, and then the Bengals they beat
up on, the beat up on the Giants. It was
seventeen to seven. Bengals get the touchdown late. That Joe
Burrow touchdown is just crippling. Forty seven yards.

Speaker 2 (50:44):
From Joe Burr.

Speaker 1 (50:45):
You just don't expect that. I think it was third
and eighteen that breaks you. Bengals. They get an ugly win.
After playing some pretty games and not getting the wins
against the Commanders and the Race and the Chiefs, they
get the win against the Giants. They have the Browns,
Eagles and Raiders. Might be time to get your banglestock again,

(51:08):
because I wouldn't be surprised if they end up on
a four game win streak, because I think they're good
and I think we know that. But I think the
early schedule and a couple of tough luck games got
to them tease us up for tonight. Chiefs, Rams, Dolphins,
Vikings were on buys this week. The pills in the
Jets Babe at eight point fifteen pills are a one

(51:29):
point favorite. Vegas has it as a pick them Jets
two and three. They just fired their head coach. Oh,
it's going to be an electric environment. Here's what I'll say.
And I know nothing. Jets firing their head coach. Rowdy Stadium,
New York just got cold night game. Something bad happens

(51:51):
for the Jets. Let's see in an episode with a
lot of predictions. Let's see where that one lands. Let's
hope it's a good one. We'll be second screening it
as we live stream the New York Yankees and the
Cleveland Guardians game one. Thank you guys for tuning in
telling them about ONNK
