dan Ets, Fritzy Seat and Marv Paully and yours truly here.
I want to give it thanks to this city of
Cincinnati hosting me in the book signing that we did
and had a great turnout. Got to meet a few
of our listeners there, some very very loyal listeners. I
did have somebody come up and say thank God for Marvin,
(00:50):
and I go and and he goes, that's it, thank
God for Marvin. So Marvin, you have one big fan
in Cincinnati. That's more than yes, thank you, Congratulations, Congratulations.
Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Our
good buddy Ross Tucker. He was working the Dolphins game
(01:12):
against the Patriots last night. He'll join us coming up.
Colorado still the talk of the town, not just college football,
but football in general. Came back to beat Colorado State
in double overtime, and they will not be fully assembled
when they meet Oregon next weekend. Travis Hunter, their star player,
got injured and likely out for a couple of weeks.
(01:33):
The NFL, the two and O teams Falcons, Ravens, Bucks,
forty nine, Ers, Cowboys and Dolphins, and of course a
doubleheader tonight Saints, Panthers, Browns, and the Steelers. Say good
morning to our radio affiliates numbering nearly four hundred cities
around America that carry the program, iHeartRadio, Fox Sports Radio.
Pull question Seaton, what are we going to go with
(01:55):
or attempt to go with in the first hour?
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Well, Dan, we could go with who. And it's Monday, Okay,
so we start negative. Who had the worst weekend? We
could sort of populate this a little bit. Bengals did
not have a good weekend, lost again, Joe Burrow reaggurates
his calf injury.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Not ideal. Chargers.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Here we go again, kind of feel there, huh yeah, yep, yeah,
they are the first hot seat situation that we're talking
about this this year.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
You know, it's kind of like when you turn on
the heater if you have heated seats in your car.
It takes a little while and then all of a
sudden it gets up warm real quickly, and then you're like, whoa,
that's what it feels like. It's like maybe the temperature
just putting it on, and then all of a sudden,
it's going to heat up a little bit.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
Here.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
And Chargers are in Minnesota next week, and I believe
we know the stat of teams that are zero to
two and the chances of making the playoffs. The Bengals
did that last year. But you know, the Chargers aren't
out of it because of the division. Kansas City is
one in one, Denver's not good, The Raiders are one
(03:09):
in one. The Chargers are competitive. They're going to be
in all these games. They have a very good offense.
My problem is they don't have a clutch offense. When
you have an opportunity in the fourth quarter or overtime
to do something, they don't do that. Now that's coaching
and that's quarterbacking. You have to have that person who
can make a play or you call the right play,
(03:30):
and they haven't had that so far. Who else is
on the list? Seaton?
Speaker 3 (03:34):
The Jets did not have a good weekend, although they
had such a worse weekend the weekend before, you know that.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
I just don't understand the game plan here. Because you
have Zach Wilson. He's been thrust into the lineup now
and I thought you have two good running backs. How
about you run the ball, maybe neutralize Micah Parsons and
that front four. You ran the ball eleven times. Whatever
(04:03):
you got from Zach Wilson you deserved. Because you let
them just tee off and three interceptions, they're going to
put pressure on you. How about we just do little
screen passes and we run the football and you're supposed
to have a really good defense too. I think a
lot of those guys were chirping start of the season
how great that defense was. Well, you needed to show
(04:25):
up as well, and you didn't. I'm not gonna put
all this on Zach Wilson. I think he is who
he is, But let me take away some of those
chants plays here. Let me let him get a little
confidence in not you know, Michah Parsons. He'll be seeing
Micah Parsons in his sleep this week. But I was
disappointed with the game plan there. I didn't think they
(04:47):
were going to win. But how about we just neutralize
Micah Parsons run the ball? And they didn't. You can't
get in a shootout against that defense. Not in Dallas.
What else?
Speaker 4 (04:58):
Seaton Uh, Alabama Crimson Tide. Not a good weekend. That
is not going according to plan.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
I don't think remember when it didn't matter who was
the quarterback at Alabama. We're sort of in that mode
that it doesn't matter who it is, but it does
matter because they're not as good as they used to
be and you can't find your quarterback and when you
have three quarterbacks, then you don't have one quarterback and
that is an issue. I know weather was an issue
(05:27):
South Florida, but seventeen to three, I mean, you're just going, Okay,
what is more real Colorado's success or Alabama's struggles At
the end of the year. Will Colorado be more successful
than alabama struggles or the other way around, because right
(05:47):
now it feels like Colorado feels real and Alabama feels
real not being a real threat. But Colorado what we saw.
I mean, they're supposed to win. They struggled to win,
and nobody wants to Everybody wants to throw the verbal
bouquets towards Dion and Colorado. It's a wonderful story. But
(06:07):
you're supposed to win by twenty four, you're favored by
twenty four. You need a double overtime and give credit
to Colorado State. Here's Dion talking about Colorado State's performance.
Speaker 5 (06:20):
You know, I could be petty. They petty, But I
ain't got time for that, man. I'm own some bigger things. Hey,
I'm happy for the brother, I really am.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
Man.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
I'm happy that they fault, that they played the good game.
I'm happy he's a head coach. I'm happy for any
brother that's doing it and successful. Man, I truly am.
I don't I don't know where all this stuff comes from.
I have to respond because you know it's my mama
told me that. You know, yeah, he just ain't gonna
take me, and I'm gonna sit back and ain't gonna
say nothing. But I'm happy for that dude. Man, I
(06:48):
don't know him that I'm happy for him. I watch
the best for him. I really do My success ain't
got nothing to do with his, So why would I
want him to succeed? I don't know how people get
down like that. My blessings ain't got none to do
with his bliss.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
There's Dion, his son certainly performed at a very high level.
And now they go to Oregon. Do we know what
the point spread is with Oregon in Colorado? Has that
come out yet? I'm assuming we already had a number
when the season started. Yeah, PAULI I got you know,
I'm gonna check this. I want to make sure this
is right. Hold on, I'm gonna hold it for a second. Yes, Todd,
(07:23):
could you.
Speaker 7 (07:23):
Argue that what Colorado did was more impressive than if
they would have won like thirty thirteen, the way they
all hung in there and came back.
Speaker 6 (07:30):
Is there an augent we made for that? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yeah, I mean to go ninety eight yards two minutes. Yeah,
that was impressive. And I know you could look at
Colorado State and then you know they had a fourth
down and two at what the forty seven yard line,
but they punted the ball down to the two. And
I was fine with that strategy. I was fine because
if you don't if you don't make that fourth down. Now,
(07:52):
I know you're saying, all right, we get the first down,
then we win the game. I'm not. I mean Colorado's
it's not a great team. And then you're saying, all right,
I would have pinned Colorado down where like they did
on the two yard line and you know, make a stop.
They didn't. But I was in the you know, if
(08:14):
we're going to say what did you what did you
think of the moment? What I thought in the moment
was punted away and you know, try to try to
get a stop, but put him pin them back. Now,
if they would have put it into the end zone
and then you brought it out to the twenty five
whatever it is, then I would have said, that's bad strategy.
They had a great kick, But give credit to you know,
(08:34):
Chudeur Sanders, who you know had all the big plays. Now,
I got a bigger problem with the defense allowing a
forty five yard touchdown pass, But as far as their
strategy of pinning them back, I didn't have a problem
with that. What else do we have, Seaton?
Speaker 4 (08:50):
There's a little karma in that touchdown pass too.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Yeah, Blackburn number eleven torched on that touchdown pass as
a kid knock Travis Henrietta again.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Yeah, now that's just a cheap shot. That's not he
can't meet objected for targeting in a situation like that,
I don't think, but I think it was just unsportsmanlike conduct.
But he did not. I mean, Hunter went out, then
he came back, but he's probably going to miss the
next two games. And that's Oregon in US, and.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
That just feels so unfair.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
It does, Travis Hunter, because that those are the games
that you, yes, you're waiting for, those are the ones.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
That you've been training for. Those are the ones that
mean everything.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
We want to see him, We want to see him, Yes, Tom, don't.
Speaker 7 (09:31):
They need to revisit that rule Just because it goes
down as a late hit out of bounds and not
necessarily going after his skull, that is enough to get ejected.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
I don't know how that guy stayed in the game.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
You have the language pauling.
Speaker 8 (09:41):
Yeah, it's weird because the guy was not making a
play on the ball. The ball was completely gone. He
did not use his helmet. But there's like two parts
of the targeting rule. Part one says taking aim in
an opponent for purposes of attacking with forceable contact. That
goes beyond making a legal tackle, legal block, or playing
the ball. That would be here what he is not
playing the ball? And then it further goes on to
(10:02):
say targeting and making forcible contact with the crown of
the helmet.
Speaker 9 (10:05):
That's part two of the rule. So they could have
booted him out legally.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Yeah, almost every part of the rule says head and
neck area, not you know, like a cheap shot to
the ribs. Almost every part of that rule says either
crown of the helmet or if it doesn't say crown
of the helmet, it's contacted the head and neck area.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
And that didn't happen. You know, it was just a
cheap shot and the.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Kid really executed it flawlessly in some way of thinking.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
But we don't look at the other part of that
rule that explanation. As Paul just said, I thought that
targeting was the crown of the helmet. But he's saying that.
The language in there is it's two part, and it
feels like we don't enforce the other one. It's usually
the crown of the helmet.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Because I think you need both parts. Maybe I don't
think that you can just call targeting for a random
cheap shot. You need it to be like at the
head and neck area, you need to sort of law
untch yourself.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
At the head and neck area, you need to use
the crown of your helmet.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
There's like certain certain factors that they're like, you know,
it's like thinking about what is a catch? Well, did
they have two feet down? Did they make a football move,
did they turn up field, did they whatever? They have
all of this criteria that they have to check off.

look who called in Shay Irving, Shay Nerving as Cowboys
(12:03):
two and oh start defense going great. They're doing everything
that you want them to do. How do you feel today, Shay.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Is Mike McCarthy the greatest coach football? Danny? I mean,
does he get in the Ring of Honor before Jimmy
thirty eight passes forty four rushing attempts. It's like the
man got inside my brain, Danny. They ran the damn
(12:34):
ball and what do you know? Dak had zero turnovers
two weeks in a row. The defense is legitimate. I
don't know what's going on in my life, but I've
been having nightmares lately. But what the other shoe dropping
is gonna look like? Because it ain't gonna be good.
I won money, Cowboys dominate, Longhorns win, I smoked ribs, Dandy.
This is two weeks in a row. I'm I'm not
(12:55):
a quit for this kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
You are not You are not prepared to have success
in your life.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
No, I am not in my comfort zone any all right?
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Any negatives though with the Cowboy.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
The one thing I will say is the level of
competition has not exactly Next week's Arizona so I'm looking
for a real test and see what the hell happens.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
All right, well, once again Shay and Irving on the
Gambling Podcast with Bad Larry and Dylan the graphics Guy.
How did you do gambling wise this weekend?
Speaker 1 (13:25):
You want a unit? Danny?
Speaker 6 (13:26):
All right?
Speaker 10 (13:27):
All right?
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Two weeks in a row. I'm gonna keep doing it.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
All right, Well, it wouldn't be a good podcast if
you're not going to gamble. So thank you for gambling,
and don't worry.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
I'll never quit that. I don't care what the roommates us.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
Thank you, Shay whatever, Danny, all right, that's Shaye and Irving.
I'd never heard Shay. I'd never heard Shay. Two weeks
in a row sound like this. He's getting along with
his wife. He stopped drinking. He might have started drinking,
but he stopped drinking, and he's his cowboys are playing great.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
It's almost like all of these things are linked.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Do you think he's getting along with his wife, cowboys
are winning, so he stops drinking and now he starts
getting along with his wife.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Who could have connected those dots?
Speaker 4 (14:09):
That's amazing.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
Micah Parsons had two sacks since the start of last season.
He has seven games with multiple sacks three or more,
three more than any other player.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Cow Stall of a day, Stand of a day, Start
of a day, Start out a day.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
This is the stele of the day. Coming up, we'll
hear from Zach Wilson on his performance against the Cowboys.
Also more from Dion Sanders as well. We'll settle on
a poll question. Phone calls always welcome, best and worst
of the weekend. We'll take a break just getting started

working last night Dolphins and the Patriots, and he joins
his courtesy of DraftKings. Good morning, Good morning Ross. How
are you buddy?
Speaker 6 (15:31):
Morning Dan, I'm doing fantastic. How about yourself? Well?
Speaker 2 (15:34):
U great? You know it's a football Monday overreaction. What
is the over reaction today that you would caution people against.
Speaker 11 (15:45):
Well, I think probably going too far down the road
with some of the zero to two teams. I do
think there are some concerns with the Cincinnati Bengals or
even the Chargers, because it feels like the Chargers are
the same team, just a different But I think, especially
now with a seventeen game slate, I think it's a
(16:05):
little bit too early to start to throw out all
those stats and all those numbers and make it seem
like those teams are done. I know people still think
they have a chance to make the playoffs and all that,
but oh to two doesn't feel as punitive as it
used to.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
All right, let me run down the overn two teams
right now. You tell me this team will make the playoffs. Bears, Bengals, Broncos, Cardinals, Chargers, Patriots, Texans, Vikings.
(16:47):
Is that it any of those gonna make the playoffs?
Speaker 11 (16:51):
I'll say the Bengals will make the playoffs. I'd be
surprised if they didn't. The only other team I think
out of that group that has.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
Ants is the Chargers.
Speaker 11 (17:01):
But it's unbelievable, Dan, and I tweeted this yesterday. I
feel like the Chargers every single game is the same game,
is it ever not the two minute warning of the
Chargers game? And whoever has the ball is down one
score and they're driving to try to win the game.
And what's curious to me, Dan about the Chargers is
(17:24):
they don't win their fair share of those. So I
don't know how much of that's Brandon Staley, how much
of that's Justin Herbert. You know, we all love Justin Herbert.
We all think he's a fantastic player. We talk about
him as a top five quarterback. But these first two games,
he's had six drives I think in the fourth quarter
where they could either have taken a two score lead
(17:47):
to kind of put the game away, or when they
were trailing, he could have led them to the game
winning score and he hasn't.
Speaker 6 (17:53):
Been able to do it.
Speaker 11 (17:55):
And I think he's awesome, and I probably would blame
Staley more for these close losses than.
Speaker 6 (18:00):
Herbert, but still not a good look.
Speaker 11 (18:01):
Right, So, you know, it feels like when you're in
those situations and you watch Mahomes, it feels like he
always gets it done.
Speaker 6 (18:08):
Dan.
Speaker 11 (18:08):
It feels like certain guys either always get it done
or have a high likelihood of getting it done. Herbert's
is not one of those guys for whatever reason.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Yeah, but are you siding with the coaches to blame
more than the quarterback or the other way around. With
the Chargers, I'm going to put.
Speaker 6 (18:24):
More blame on Brandon Staley.
Speaker 11 (18:26):
Yeah, I mean they've had some curious decisions.
Speaker 6 (18:29):
You know what's fascinating to me about him? Dan?
Speaker 11 (18:32):
Two years ago, Okay, all of the analytics folks, all
of the young people, they were loving Brandon Stale because
every decision he made was based on you know, expected
points added or win probability. He went straight by the numbers, right.
And I don't know if he got gun shy. I
(18:53):
don't know if he lost his stinger or his confidence.
But I'm watching the game against the Titans. They're like
at the forty two yard line, fourth and one or something,
and he punts it.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
I'm always a little and you can say maybe he learned.
Speaker 11 (19:05):
From prior mistakes, but I'm always a little bit skeptical
of coaches who it seems like have really changed their philosophy, Like.
Speaker 6 (19:13):
Why did he change? And to me.
Speaker 11 (19:15):
The most likely scenario there is he was tired of
getting criticized for being different. So if he's going to
go down, he'd rather be conservative and not have people say, well,
he's too new age, he's too going with the analytics
too much.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Yeah, I know that we get caught up in this
where these new coaches new philosophy. Then all of a sudden,
now it feels like you have a coach who's coaching
for his job, and now you get a little more
conservative there. You know, Mike McDaniel, he's a guy that's quirky, different.
You saw this last night with his offense, and that's
(19:50):
a great offense there. But is he an analytics guy
similar to how Stalely is and some you know a
few other coaches.
Speaker 11 (19:59):
Well, he's certainly he understands, you know, the mathematics of
some of the decision making that he undergoes.
Speaker 6 (20:06):
Although you know, I.
Speaker 11 (20:07):
Thought the fifty five yard field goal was a surprising
decision by him. I mean, I would have thought that
he would go for it in that situation late in
the game. The kick wasn't even closed, which, by the way,
Dan I am convinced that Jason Sanders hooked that ball
to the left because the Patriots had that kids schooler
(20:28):
coming off the edge again from the right, the same
way he had blocked.
Speaker 6 (20:32):
The first field goal with the coolest field.
Speaker 11 (20:35):
Goal block technique I've ever seen. I think we're going
to see more teams do that, not just to block it,
but it's just distracting for the kicker.
Speaker 6 (20:44):
Right.
Speaker 11 (20:44):
It's like those guys are so locked in and now
you have a guy running.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
Towards you from your peripheral vision.
Speaker 11 (20:51):
I'm convinced that that's part of the reason why Sanders
hooked it the way he did well.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
I think he surprised the Dolphins with that, and then
I think after that, you know, teams are going to
be aware of a guy who is moving and then
you just got to chip him. But I'm waiting for
the NFL to go, Nope, that's illegal. We're not going
to allow that anymore. But it was a great play
by the Patriots to block the kick. We're talking to
(21:17):
Ross Tucker Westwood, one CBS Sports NFL and college football
analyst joining us on behalf of Giraftkings. Well, the Dolphins.
I think we're waiting to see can the defense be
up to the task that the offense is with the Dolphins.
How would you handicap what you saw with the Dolphins
and how sustainable it is.
Speaker 11 (21:37):
Yeah, So I think Dan, they've been the most impressive
team in the AFC so far this season. I mean,
I know we all come into the year and you
talk about the Chiefs and the Bengals and the Bills.
Speaker 6 (21:48):
But for the Dolphins to do what they did two.
Speaker 11 (21:50):
And zero on the road at pretty solid football teams
with the Chargers and the Patriots, and I.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
Think Dan is the way that they did it right.
So they threw the.
Speaker 11 (22:00):
Ball all over the field against the Chargers. We all
know that it was awesome to go to New England
now and Belichick does a good job taking away Tyreek Hill.
So the Dolphins run the ball as much as they
did with mostart and then play really good defense on
the other side of the ball. I mean, you're already
seeing the impact of Vic Fangio. They didn't even have
(22:22):
Jalen Phillips, who's probably their best edge rusher for that
game last night, and they still held the Patriots.
Speaker 6 (22:29):
To only seventeen points. The Patriots, you.
Speaker 11 (22:32):
Know, they really have their own issues, But I do
think that was a highly encouraging performance by the Dolphins. Defensively,
they forced a couple turnovers, and right now, I mean,
if you're doing AFC power rankings, I think it's hard
not to have the Dolphins number one out of that group.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Help me understand the logic of the Jets against the
Cowboys with Zach Wilson as your quarterback, and yes, you
have a wonderful wide receiver, but you have two good
running backs, and I thought the best way to neutralize
Dallas and Michael Parsons would be to run the football.
How do you explain them running eleven times?
Speaker 11 (23:06):
Well, I think part of that is they didn't have
early success, But I don't care.
Speaker 6 (23:11):
I'm with you, Dan.
Speaker 11 (23:12):
I mean, we've now seen enough of Zach Wilson, and
we saw him yesterday.
Speaker 6 (23:17):
Honestly, the best thing he does right now is run.
Speaker 11 (23:20):
I mean, he ran for a bunch of yards, ran
for some first downs, which helped the Jets. But that's
I think the biggest storyline today in my mind, Dan,
in the NFL, is.
Speaker 6 (23:31):
One of the Jets going to really do a quarterback?
I mean, but when you.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Trying to trade for somebody in the next two weeks,
that let's say let's say the Vikings lose at home.
Chargers are in Minnesota, and like, at what point do
you say, all right, what will you give us for
our starting quarterback here? I mean, I know they have
to come in and learn the offense, but are they
going to stay with Zach Wilson, Maybe get a backup,
(23:58):
a veteran backup, and they're going to go into battle
every week like this.
Speaker 11 (24:03):
So I don't know that they're going to give up
the draft choices and the money for a guy like
Kirk Cousins of that caliber.
Speaker 6 (24:12):
To try to make a big swing like that.
Speaker 11 (24:15):
But they're going to bring somebody else in. And I
would think that they would bring somebody else in this
week because it might take that guy a week or
two to get ready, right, And you don't want to
wait too long. I mean, they play the Patriots in
the next game. You don't want to wait so long
that you're putting whoever you bring in. I don't know,
case Keenum, name your favorite backup quarterback out there that
(24:39):
they could bring in.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
Who's just steady Dan.
Speaker 11 (24:41):
It just doesn't look to me like Zach Wilson is
comfortable that he believes what he's seeing they need a
guy in there that can just make the layups and
not turn the football over. They don't need highlight real stuff.
And I think they wanted to give it a week
with Zach Wilson. Well now we saw so I think
either today or tomorrow, I think the longer the Jets
(25:04):
go before they give themselves another optional quarterback.
Speaker 6 (25:08):
The more of a disservice they're really doing. That entire team.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
That Dallas defense is real, but that's because you start
with Micah Parsons. Does he get the Lawrence Taylor treatment
now with offensive coordinators here?
Speaker 11 (25:25):
Yeah, I mean he already is, and he's still producing,
which is incredible. I mean, he is a phenomenal, phenomenal
football player. His change of direction, his lateral agility, his
closing speed, I mean, he's probably his Look, We've had
some unbelievable guys, Von Miller's and Derek you know, there's
(25:46):
all kinds of guys, but he is as dominant of
a guy as.
Speaker 6 (25:50):
We've seen in a long long time.
Speaker 11 (25:52):
Three games into or a couple of games into here,
his second year, in your third year in the NFL,
just extremely impressive.
Speaker 6 (26:00):
What I like about what dan Quinn does Dan. He's
moving them around, right, and they're running stunts.
Speaker 11 (26:07):
If you just line them up in the same place
every time, teams are going to help that way every time.
So the fact that they're moving him around and getting
them involved in stunts that allow him to get freed
up a little bit more is very, very smart. He
needs to be like a where's Waldo guy so that
the offense doesn't know where he is they can chip
or slide or whatever.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
I know that there's wishful reporting with Colorado with Dion.
I don't know how good they are. Colorado State's not good,
Nebraska's not good, and they did beat TCU and they're
a three touchdown underdog against Oregon. Probably would be similar,
I guess against the USC followingly. But how much of
(26:49):
this do you think is sustainable this year with Dion Colorado?
Speaker 11 (26:55):
I think they're going to struggle the next couple of weeks.
I heard the poll question, and I think it's I
think Alabama will do a better job of fighting through
their struggles than Colorado will continue to have success, especially
with Travis Hunter being hurt and out for a couple
of weeks. You know, I don't know that that was
a great TCU team that they beat. It's a terrific story.
(27:19):
Colorado has been terrible forever. They have a good team,
but they really haven't beat a top twenty caliber team.
There's a reason why they're huge underdogs against Oregon. I
would imagine they will be as well against USC. If
they can hang with those teams and win one of
those games, I would be very, very impressed. He's done
(27:41):
a fantastic job. But I don't think they're at that
level yet. I mean, that would be unbelievable thing right down.
I mean you're talking about top ten teams. I don't
think Colorado is a top ten team yet.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
Good to talk to you as always, Ross. Where are
you off to next weekend?
Speaker 6 (27:55):
Big one? Dan?
Speaker 11 (27:57):
My first SEC on CBS game All Men at Alabama Saturday,
three point thirty.
Speaker 6 (28:02):
I can't wait.
Speaker 2 (28:03):

Speaker 2 (29:05):
From final Hour in this Monday best and worst to
the weekend is we always do. Hope you had a
great weekend. Again, my thanks to the city of Cincinnati.
Great turnout for my books. Signing got a proclamation there
said some nice things about me. I may go back there. No, Mason,
(29:27):
Ohio got a proclamation. Well they You know, sometimes you
have these smaller towns where they'll put home of I
haven't gotten that yet with my little town. Really. No, yeah, yeah, well,
there's like.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
A big there's like big industry there. Now they're like
the home of Procter and Gamble, Procter and Gamble.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
Yeah yeah, right, yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Well it was my home before it was Procter and Gamble,
but Procter and Gamble is kind of a bigger Does.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
Procter and Gamble even go there if you're not from there?
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
Probably not, yes, because the land was really cheap, That's
why they went there.
Speaker 9 (30:03):
Yes, Paul, the town is Mason, ohioret Yes.
Speaker 8 (30:06):
Now let's say they get into a showdown between Is
George Clooney the actor from Mason?
Speaker 2 (30:12):
No I have him.
Speaker 8 (30:14):
It's being reported different places that he's from Mason, Ohio.
Lived a long part of his life in Mason.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
He went to church in Mason, Ohio. That's big, But
so did I.
Speaker 9 (30:25):
If it's a showdown between you and Clooney.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
I'm going to lose that. But I think they lived
in northern Kentucky. His dad, Okay, Nick Clooney was a
big news anchor, carpetbagger Channel twelve. Yeah, Now he wasn't
from Mason. I don't remember him now. I know that
he had a crush on my sister Annie. But but
I don't I don't know how if he lived in Mason,
how long he lived? Does he claim Mason like I
(30:48):
claim Mason, Ohio?
Speaker 8 (30:49):
I got Clooney born in Lexton, Kentucky. Yeah, he lived
in Kentucky for.
Speaker 9 (30:53):
Quite a while. He was raised at some point in
his life.
Speaker 8 (30:56):
It says a few different towns in Kentucky, then Worthington, Ohio,
then a few years in Mason.
Speaker 6 (31:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
I don't remember him in Mason.
Speaker 8 (31:03):
They should be like a cutoff, like you know, isn't MLB.
You have to be ten years to be in the
Hall of Fame. Yeah, I don't think he did ten
years in Mason. Yeah, we'll call for him.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Yeah, And it's not like I want to. You know,
a sign that says home of Dan Patrick.
Speaker 9 (31:16):
You wouldn't go back and be there for.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
The I would not go like ribbon cutting and all
that stuff, get a key to the city.
Speaker 9 (31:22):
You wouldn't bring your whole family.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Yeah yeah, Yeah, I did get a proclamation and they
said some nice things. I got to see some people
I grew up with, and it was nice, nice little homecoming.
Let's see Monday Night football got a couple of games. Tonight,
you have Saints Panthers, and you have the Browns and
the Steelers. The DraftKings line Saints minus three versus the Panthers,
(31:47):
and the Steelers are getting two against the Cleveland Browns.
Let's see, if we're looking at must win sitting well,
Panthers aren't good. Steelers. You got to win this game.
I mean, you hope you're going to win this game,
but the Steelers got to win this game. As far
as yesterday and even Saturday, you know, there was some
(32:07):
there were some bad wins and some good losses, like
the Patriots losing last night. They didn't get embarrassed. They
just don't have the offensive firepower to keep up with
somebody like Miami. Man, and Miami is legitimate. That offense
is great. Keep an eye on the Ravens. I've said
that my preseason pick, if I was going to try
(32:29):
to make money on the MVP, would have been Lamar Jackson.
I told you about Zay Flowers. I said he's going
to be incredible wide receiver out of Boston College. It's
the fact that he played at Boston College that I
don't think people were buying into it. I'm like, man,
just watch him and having a scout one of my
sources saying, somebody's getting an All Pro. Then he got drafted,
(32:52):
and my source said, Baltimore got an All Pro wide
receiver and he is great. You go into Cincinnati, the
offense struggle. Now, Joe Burrow don't know what the update
is on his calf. Waiting for an update on Saquon
Barkley this morning because he got hurt late in that
comeback win against the Cardinals. Having an MRI this morning.
(33:12):
Phone calls coming up eight seven to seven, three DP
show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle a DP
show and we say good morning to our radio affiliates
around the country every Friday. When I talk about Meet Friday,
I use the expression that we got from the Harball family.
And here's John Harbaugh after the Ravens win against the Bengals.
Speaker 9 (33:35):
Who's got it better than us?
Speaker 6 (33:37):
Yeah? Did you hear it? What was the answer? What
was the answered?
Speaker 9 (33:41):
Who's got it better than us?
Speaker 6 (33:42):
Nobody? Nobody? Nobody?
Speaker 2 (33:45):
Yeah, all right, got to work on that. It's not
quite like Dion. You know, they've done him, made it personal.
Speaker 6 (33:53):
He went and.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Personal and just to let the Ravens know who has
it better than we do? No, No, that's how you
do it.
Speaker 6 (34:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (34:03):
Do you see Colorado's pregame speech. Dion had his mom
and the Rock in there.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
Of course, it's like a TV You couldn't.
Speaker 8 (34:09):
Make a TV show as good as Saturday. Here comes
the Rock and Mom.
Speaker 2 (34:13):
Yeah, the pregame and Lil Laane is there.
Speaker 9 (34:18):
I see.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
I mean it was it was wild that we have
not had an atmosphere like you'll have a football atmosphere.
That was something that was I mean, it's crazy when
you think about how everybody PAULI said, it's like pop
culture the atmosphere. Pop culture that was WWE, that was
(34:41):
reality show. That was college football atmosphere and it lived up.
You know, the game was wonderful. Colorado didn't play great,
but they kept playing good enough to stay in it
and then they got the big play and ended up
winning and it paid off. Here is Dion talking about
the win, and he I also complimented Colorado State.
Speaker 5 (35:02):
You know, I could be petty they petty, but I
ain't got time for that.
Speaker 6 (35:05):
Man.
Speaker 5 (35:06):
I'm own some bigger things. I'm happy for the brother,
I really am.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Man.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
I'm happy that they fault that they played the good game.
I'm happy he's a head coach. I'm happy for any
brother that's doing it and successful. Man, I truly am.
Speaker 6 (35:19):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (35:20):
I don't know where all this stuff come from. I
have to respond because you know it's my mama told
me that, you know, Yeah, he just ain't gonna take me,
and I'm gonna sit back and ain't gonna say nothing.
But I'm happy for that dude. Man, I don't know
him that I'm happy for him. I watched the best
for him, I really do. My success ain't got nothing
to do with his, So why would I want him
to succeed? I don't know how people get down like that.
(35:41):
My blessings ain't got none to do with his blessing.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
So he's rooting for the brother. But is he rooting
for the brother? And should he be rooting for him?
It was just it was a competitive game Colorado State.
It's a rivalry game, and sometimes it's the team that
you don't expect that ends up winning a rivalry game.
And they almost did that could have done that.
Speaker 12 (36:05):
Yes, Marvin, I think he was rooting for him in general,
just not that that's him.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Yeah, yeah, but he doesn't know the dude, No, not
one bit. No, he doesn't know. And then Dion had
this to say about his team refused to lose.
Speaker 5 (36:21):
Truthfully, it's one point in the game. I said, we
can't let this dude win.
Speaker 6 (36:27):
Ain't no way we let this dude win.
Speaker 5 (36:29):
You know, his press conference is gonna be unbearable if
we let this dude win. But I knew even when
we got the ball on a two or three four
yard line, I said, as long as the ball in
your door's hands, we're gonna get down this field. I
knew that without a shadow of a doubt.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
Okay, So he would have been unbearable in that press conference, man,
even though he's rooting for the dude.
Speaker 12 (36:53):
Yes, Martin Colorado was the woof of the weekend for sure.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
You can't deal with this dude.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Yeah, handshake, Oh, that would have been spicy. That would
have that would I honestly thought, if that coach at
Colorado State wins, does he get a pair of sunglasses
and put those on and goes over there, doesn't take
off his hat and shakes Dion's hand. Somehow, I think
(37:21):
that there was a game plan there if he won.
What he was going to do maybe I'm wrong, Maybe
I read too much into it felt like there was
going to be like.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
Okay, their handshake was good though, Yeah it was. It
was nice. It was like, all right, so this is over.
Speaker 2 (37:37):
And I think it was you know, sometimes you'll have
this when fighters getting ready to fight and they say
things about each other and then all of a sudden
it's over and they hug each other say nice things
about each other. That's what it felt like. By the way,
if you go to Dan Patrick dot com the T shirts,
we just got the Crappenburg state crap you yeah, crap
you or is it you crap? Yeah, but we have
(38:00):
that T shirt. Please redrink responsibly, Yeah, please redrink sponsorb
please readink drink sponsor me. Yeah, that was my slip
up there. So we got we got a few new
T shirts in there, and you can go to dan
Patrick dot com. A couple of phone calls. Let's pull
question for the final hour of this program.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Dan, we could go with, uh, we have a bunch
of oh and two or two and.
Speaker 4 (38:24):
O options Okay that we could throw up there, like.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
Which two and O AFC team do you believe in
least Dolphins or Ravens.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Do I believe in least? Well, why can't I do?
Which one? Do you believe in most?
Speaker 4 (38:37):
You can? But the flip side of that is which,
oh and two a FC team do you believe in most?
Speaker 6 (38:43):
Right?
Speaker 3 (38:43):
So that you could have Bengals, Broncos, Patriots, Chargers, Texans.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
I'm gonna say the Bengals, but I'm going to put
an asterisk by that because of Joe Burrow. I believe
in the Ravens more than I do the Dolphins. But
that's only because he Well, that's only because I've picked
the Ravens to be, you know, one of those teams
that can go to the Super Bowl, and I truly
(39:09):
felt that this year. And I think Lamar Jackson was
a great pick for MV pick. The pass he threw
to Zay Flowers is spectacular. Now people will focus on
Jay Flowers catch because they don't want to give credit
to Lamar Jackson throwing. But that is a pass that
nobody's going to do it better than that pass that
he threw. But I would say the Ravens. Ravens always,
(39:33):
you know, got a great coach, They win close games.
They just got to stay healthy. That's been the biggest problem,
certainly at the running back position. Well, Lamar has been injured.
Odell Beckham got banged up a little bit yesterday.
Speaker 9 (39:44):
Yeah, Paul, that's staff for the Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 8 (39:47):
Tua in two games, he's been sacked once, he's been
hit three times, three hits, quarterback hits.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
That's pretty good. That's pretty good. No need to use
jiu jitsu or whatever it is. He's Tua. No right ton.
By the way, the Washington Commander's offense for real, Eric Bien,
I mean anybody? Yeah? They right now better offense than
the Kansas City Cheeves storyline. That was my big surprise
(40:18):
with Kansas City. They won, but how they won. They
won with their defense. And Jacksonville, Man, if you want
to play with the big boy, you gotta win those games.
Trevor Lawrence, you gotta win those games. Here's Doug Peterson,
the Jags head coach.
Speaker 13 (40:39):
You played good teams, you play well coached teams, you
can't beat yourself. And that's what we did today.
Speaker 6 (40:44):
We beat ourselves.
Speaker 13 (40:45):
Yes, the defense, yes, special teams played well, but it
takes all three phases, right, that's what football teams do,
and we didn't do that. Well enough today, the opportunities
were there and we didn't do it.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Got to win those games. It's like Detroit, you gotta
win those games.
Speaker 10 (41:01):
You know.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
The media can say whatever they want. Analysts can say, oh, man,
the Lion's great story. Man, I really like them. Win
those games. Same with Jacksonville, Trevor Lawrence. Win those games.
Dale in Kentucky, Hi, Dale, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 14 (41:17):
Well, Dan, I've got a worse than event. And if
you have time, I need to ask Polly a mental
health question. Oh, okay, for I need some advice, okay,
And my worst is my Western Kentucky Hilltopper is getting
select in Columbus. My best is they got one point
eight million to do it.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
All right, now your mental health question for PAULI.
Speaker 14 (41:43):
All right, So Paully will relate to this because he's
also an alumni of a directional university. So Western Kentucky
University beat South Florida by seventeen in the opening week
and Alabama beat them by fourteen? Does in on does
that mean in my delusional mind as a hilltoper fand
that we're better than Alabama? I mean you taught me
(42:04):
off to lage, Polly.
Speaker 8 (42:05):
Now, I love when people do that, Like when your
team beats someone and then that team beat someone, the
transference that means we're better than blank.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
This happens a lot with college basketball, where somebody beat
somebody and then that team would have been the national
champ because they that team, and then that team beat
that team, and that team beat that team.
Speaker 3 (42:24):
Yes, these are some of the most factual anecdotes that
we have though. That's the only way you can truly
compare other than playing head to head. If we beat
you and then you beat them, then we're just as
good as them.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
Chris and Colorado. Hi Chris, what's on your mind?
Speaker 10 (42:39):
Damn dan In it's long time, first time six foot one,
well maybe now six foot if I'm being honest. So
there is no worst of the weekend. The best of
the weekend has to be an American cyclist winning a
Grand Tour event in our own step Couse. This hasn't
been done in ten years. We haven't had any relevant cyclists,
(43:01):
and he did it on a dominant cycling team with
a lot of drama.
Speaker 1 (43:05):
That is my best.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
Okay, Well, thank you, Chris, That's gonna be mine.
Speaker 8 (43:10):
Yeah, glad I got mine out first.
Speaker 2 (43:13):
Paulie, do you have your best and worst of the weekend?
Speaker 9 (43:16):
You Yeah, I definitely the Missouri kick.
Speaker 2 (43:18):
You know.
Speaker 9 (43:19):
I love these games.
Speaker 8 (43:19):
By the way, when a one double a school gets
paid to beat a big, big school Stamford Stanford, not
Sanford Stanford in California. They lost thirty to twenty three
to Sacramento State. Sacramento State got like six hundred and
fifty grand to come there, Yeah and beat him.
Speaker 9 (43:34):
Yeah, I love that stuff.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
John and Hartford. Hi, John, WIT's on your mind?
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Hey?
Speaker 6 (43:40):
Dan?
Speaker 1 (43:40):
How's it going?
Speaker 15 (43:40):
Thanks for taking my call. So I had a couple
of bad wins and good losses I wanted to throw
at you get your opinion on him. The bad win
I think would have to be Florida State going into
Boston College and barely escaping. I know it's a conference
road game, but there was so much hype around this
team coming into the preseason, and then even after their
(44:03):
big victory against LSU, everyone's saying Jordan Travis might be
in the heiding conversation, and they just were completely flat
in that second half against a team that won three
games last year. So I'd have to say that's a
bad win, and then fair I guess a good loss.
I'd have to say maybe the Houston Texans. They were
(44:23):
getting completely blown out at halftime, and you know, CJ.
Stroud actually looked pretty good in that game, three hundred
and eighty four yards passing two touchdowns. Texans could have
completely rolled over, they kept fighting in the second half.
I know it's going to be a long year for
them and their fans, but I guess if you took
something optimistic out of that, it would be the performance
of CJ. Stroud.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
All right, well, thank you John, CJ. Stroud. No interceptions either,
But Anthony Richardson got banged up again, second week in
a row. Well, take a break. We have more phone
calls coming up. Best and worst of the weekend. We're
back after this
