Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
We bring in Dani Rolovsky ESPN football analysts part of
NFL Live, and they're extending it to two hours on
Mondays this football season. Dano with Marcus Spears, Ryan Clark, Meta,
Kaimes Lower Ruttledge will be there for the Jets and
Niners on Monday in Santa Clair three Eastern on ESPN.
Great to have you back on. Are the Chiefs on
(00:25):
scholarship this year?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Meaning are we giving them a pass type of thing?
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Even if they have a slow start. They lost to
the Lions last year opening night. You know, they could
have lost to the Jets. I mean they struggled a
little bit there. Mahomes didn't play great during the regular season.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
So yeah, so go back to last year. I don't
think the Lions winning down there was that surprising, you know,
just because the style of play. I do think the
people being out in that game, Chris and Travis had
their part. And then obviously the story of the season,
which was one that everyone teetered back and forth on
was it going to matter or not, was the drops
(01:05):
and the penalties, And that was really why Patrick didn't
play to Patrick's level and all that. So you know,
it's silly or it's odd to think that the team
that won the Super Bowl is a better football team
this year than they were last year. But I don't
think it's even close that they're a better football team
this year as long as Hollywood and Xavier Worthy or
healthy players, because just the addition of speed now they got.
(01:29):
I was saying this yesterday. I mean, Patrick is by
far the best player in the NFL, right, most important
player in the NFL. He's got a rookie starting at
left tackle. I mean, you can make the case. We
often have the conversation who's under the most pressure in
the NFL? That left tackle rookie from BYU Bob. You know,
he's he's got a lot of pressure on him. So
(01:50):
you know, we got to see what that looks like.
But I do think if they play to you know,
the way that the talent kind of aligns it, they'll
be a better football team. So the expectation, you know,
they're the team to be.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
But I wonder if it's pressure or motivation to try
to repeat if I said pick one or the other.
For the Chiefs, is there pressure to th repeat or
is it motivation to three P.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
I think it's an obsession to three P. You know,
I don't you know?
Speaker 4 (02:18):
They they are.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Patrick has long been different when it comes to the
way he viewed his career. I think that's why he
took that long contract. The same with Travis, the same
with Andy Reid. I think there's this obsession to go
do it because no one's done it. I think for
Patrick it he realizes that places me firmly into the
(02:41):
conversation with Tom Brady, like because I've done something that
he's never done. Obviously, Tom has the longevity in the seven.
So I think there's an obsession within that group, within
that organization to go get it done. I don't sense
a ton of pressure. I think it's more them wanting
to go do something that's never done before.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
When do you make your Super Bowl pick?
Speaker 3 (03:04):
I've made him already. I actually shared them to ESPN yesterday.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Okay, who wants to guess Orlovsky's Super Bowl picks?
Speaker 5 (03:13):
Todd Dan Orolofsky has the forty nine Ers beating the
Chiefs and keeping them from the three people.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
See No Connor.
Speaker 6 (03:23):
H Eagles Chiefs, Eagles Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Marvin.
Speaker 7 (03:33):
Chiefs forty nine Ers.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
Okay, guys are boring, Paulie.
Speaker 8 (03:37):
I think he's got Ravens Niners.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
Ravens Niners. I think he's got the Lions in there.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Lions, Lions, Chiefs who went second?
Speaker 4 (03:49):
It's Seaton.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
I got Chiefs Detroit, I think, yeah, Chiefs Chiefs Detroit. No,
was that you, Dan, Chiefs Detroit?
Speaker 7 (03:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
I got Chiefs Detroit. In the Super Bowl, I think
I had the Chiefs winning, though. I took my AFC
championship game was Kansas City Houston, and then my NFC
Championship was Detroit Philly, I think, and I had Kansas
City beating Detroit and the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Give me the surprising team who doesn't make the playoffs.
Start with the NFC.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Surprising team he does not make the playoffs. I feel
like I've been adamant about this. The Dallas Cowboys, I
think is a injustifiably just because of all the different
pieces excuse me, that are part of their football team.
You know, there is obviously the narrative, the pressure of
you know, the contract situation with certainly Dak and Mike McCarthy.
(04:42):
But you know their offense is going to start two
rookies and all counts seem to be like they're gonna
be good players, but it's a different animal being those
guys on a consistent week to week basis. Their running
back room is a lot left to be desired. Defensive
tackles still a question. Inside linebackers still a question that
the on Bland injury is still a big deal because
he's gonna miss the first what four or five six games,
(05:05):
So I think a lot of the defensive pieces are missing,
specifically Dan Quinn as well. I think Washington can finish
second in that division, so I would say the Dallas
Cowboys are one. I think the NFC NORD is gonna
be the best division in football. So I don't think
Dallas and green or Detroit and Green Bay miss it.
But I think you could have a really good Minnesota
Vikings team. Not get in type of thing.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
What about AFC?
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah, the AFC, I think Kiss City's in. You like
Buffalo Dolphins, I don't like the Dolphins to get in. No,
as much as I love their football team, the Dolphins
are in a tough spot because it's gonna take them
a little bit to start this season to get truly healthy.
(05:54):
We'll see where Jalob's Phillips Jalen Phillips is Jub's got
to come back from the injury, think a couple of
pieces on the offensive line. But then in the assumption
game where everyone or when everyone gets healthy. Their final
eight games are absolutely treacherous, like they're you could be
a good team and not win one's. It's that daunting
(06:14):
of a schedule. So it doesn't set up well for them.
So I could see Miami missing out. I think Buffalo
makes it just because how Josh Wild be so great.
But I've concerned with the Milano injury. Baltimore. I think
Baltimore is fantastic, obviously, but Baltimore has got a lot
of question marks. You know, you're replacing fifty percent of
the best inside linebacker duo and ball, You're replacing three
(06:35):
offensive lineman, You're replacing a defensive coordinator. They have my
attention for sure.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Dan Orlovski, ESPN Football Analyst, NFL Live expanding to two
hours on Monday, starting at three Eastern as they will
be on the road in Santa Clara. Jets and the
forty nine ers, you have. The Jets are always going
to be interesting with Rogers being there. They have a
lot of talent. They did win seven games and they
had zero quarterback play.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
Yeah, hard to.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
It feels like you're trying to troll people if you
pick the Jets to be great this year, Like, do
you get that feeling? I mean, it's a good roster
and it really depends on I'm not comfortable with the coaching,
but Rogers being healthy.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
I would say this, Dan, I don't think it's trolling
because I would ask you, how are the Jets not
good this year? If you just took the roster, the
talent that they have, and we're honest about the talent,
because that league is about talent, how do they not
How are they not a good football team this year?
You would say, Number one, some of the key end
or pivotal pieces get hurt, you know, if Tyron Smith
(07:44):
doesn't hold up. But then I would say, well, fashion
who can maybe play there? Garrett Wilson gets hurt, God forbid?
Or you know, Aaron Rodgers gets hurt again, God forbid.
So you sit there and go, well, it's health. But
then I could say that for everybody, and then well
the coaching, offensive coaching we can make. We can have
that conversation. But then you go, well, Aaron Rodgers, and
(08:07):
he's got to give you some confidence that that won't
be maybe as bad on the surface level. So it's
hard for me outside of health to see how the
Jets aren't a good football team.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
And and also you go back to Buffalo, it feels
I think Josh Allen's got second best MVP odds, and
it feels like he might get more credit the better
they are, because they may not be as loaded as now,
they could be better. But I think with Diggs not there,
I mean we might look at Buffalo as an underdog
instead of a favorite like we have in recent years.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Yeah, because you know, the favorite of recent years I
think was coming off of that AFC Championship game with
Patrick and whatnot. It's hard for me to see Joshua
MVP just because Josh, if you're not Patrick, you're everyone
thinks you so type of thing. So you know, people
are to find ways because Josh's style of play as well.
(09:03):
I do think that there will be a more consistent offense.
I do think that Josh is capable of becoming that
second version of Patrick where he plays a little bit
of that point guard mold. That's what's going to be necessary.
It really comes down to their defense, and I don't
want to minimize like Poyer in Hyde were as good
at duo as the NFL, and Milano's is spectacular. So
(09:26):
you're talking about losing twenty five percent of your defense
to really high end players. So I think they're still
the favorite in that division. They are, but I want
to see how the defense looks more so than the offense.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Could Josh Allen change his style?
Speaker 3 (09:42):
No, and he doesn't have to. He doesn't have to
though he doesn't have to. And I have said this
since I think we had this conversation maybe about you
know what Cam Newton and Carson Wentz a little bit
just onto the football field. Josh has a certain skill,
a certain physical talent that if you don't play to
(10:05):
that way, you're making him a lesser player. Over the
course of time, you might have a game or two
stretch where you adjust it because that's what's necessary. But
over the course of time, you can't change that style
of play, nor do you want to. Because the highs
are as high as anybody, and there might be some
lows along the road that you sit there and go,
God bless. If this didn't happen, but you're not paying
(10:29):
him for that, you didn't draft him for that, and
you don't have a chance to win the Super Bowl
because of it.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
What's your policy on starting rookie quarterbacks?
Speaker 3 (10:38):
The number one thing is are we capable of supporting
them so they can survive? Are we capable? I think
the rookies in the quarterback needs three things. They need
a really good scheme and play caller together. They need
a plus offensive line and plus skill group. I will
always go back to if we looked at the rookie
(10:59):
quarterbacks that come in and played at a high level,
I'll go to CJ. Stroud last year. Okay, did he
have a plus scheme? Yes, the Kyle Shannan scheme, Bobby Slowank.
We didn't know if he was a good play caller.
Turns out he is. Did they have a plus offensive line? Yes,
Now that scheme helps that offensive line some because of
the play action. And do they have plus skill group? Absolutely?
That's why part of the reason why CJ. If you
(11:21):
go to Dak Prescott in twenty sixteen had one of
the greatest offensive lines in the history of football. He
had Jason Whitten Hall of Famer. You had Dez Bryant.
Maybe in the conversation for Hall of Fame he had
Ezekiel Elliott. So just remarkable support group, Ben Roethlisberger, Russe Wilson.
So they all have those similar traits. So that's like
the surrounding parts. Those three things got to be in place. Second,
(11:44):
he has to have something about his game that allows
him to survive early on and then thrive. It's either
unbelievable processing, it's remarkable athleticism, it's lights out ball placement. Like,
he's got to have something in his game. And I
think the third thing is he better be you better
be darn sure that he can handle the suck of it,
(12:08):
the failure of it, because in college you're not often
going to walk into that building on a Monday morning
being the reason you lost in the NFL. You will,
and you better be able to handle that mentally.
Speaker 2 (12:22):
All Right, it's time for hot dogs and hot takes.
You don't get the hot dogs, but it's time for
you to provide us with a couple of wild predictions
this year. Okay, Now, now you don't have to believe
in it totally, but just okay, just something that.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Would be convinced into it. All right, A little fun,
a little fun, all right.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
So let's start in the NFC. Give me a hot take.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
Washington wins the NFC East. Okay, I think Jaden Daniels
wins Rookie of the Year. Washington wins the NFC East.
Philadelphia stumbles out of the gates and there's chaos in Philly,
so I will start with that. And uh, the second
one is the NFC North gets three playoff teams in
and it's not Chicago, Detroit, Green Bay, and Minnesota all
(13:08):
make the NFC playoffs. Since Sam Donald becomes oh my gosh,
Sam Donald doesn't stink at football conversation narrative.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Pretty fun.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
The Los Angeles Rams win the NFC West. That's not
that crazy, you know. San Francisco obviously the favorite, but
the Rams win the NFC West, So I think those
are probably but my my NFC ones.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Okay, give me AFC down.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Jacksonville wins the AFC South. You know, the whole conversation
this offseason is Houston, Houston, Houston, Houston, Houston, and Tennessee
gets Brian Callahan and Jacksonville hasn't been talked about a lot.
And Trevior Lawrence is in the MVP conversation, so finally
takes that big giant leap. I have a fun one
for the AFC West, but it's a little bit attached
to college football as well. AFC North. I'll sit there
(13:57):
and say, I'll take you.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
I think that's it for the AFC that I have
fun Wise, well, what's the AFC webst All?
Speaker 9 (14:07):
Right?
Speaker 3 (14:08):
This is just like a hypothetically fun one. I could
see it. Sounds like a hardball one, yeah, I could so.
I think I was big proponent of Antonio Pierce getting
that job in Las Vegas, right, but don't I don't
think they're gonna be a great football team, good defense,
great football team. Hypothetically, they get into the back end
of September October ish, they're not playing. Well, there's the future,
(14:32):
doesn't look promising. Trade Davante to the New York Jets
for a number one next year. They become the number
one pick in next year's NFL draft. They pull a
Houston Texans and they take at number one Shador and
then at number find a way to use that second
first round pick to get to number two and take
(14:54):
Travis Hunter and both of them go to Las Vegas.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
I'm out a round them. Applause for Dan Orlovsky that
time that.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
Yeah, man, I want that one to hit. I want
that one to hit.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Damn. I like that one. And it's on the record.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Now, it's not one of those Hey you had a
fun pick. No, you actually believe the raiders and this
guy and this and this and this the dominoes that
have to fall.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Well, yeah, that's I'm sure I'm gonna get a couple
of social media ones off that.
Speaker 7 (15:24):
Now.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
Once again, this is just a hot take. This is
having fun. Yeah, yes, don't want you to lose credibility, Dan,
I don't want that. But if it hits it absolutely
absolutely you can take a victory lap us safe travels.
Thanks for joining us as always, and uh we'll talk
to you soon.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Thank you.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
Alrighty, here we go.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Hot takes, hotcakes, hot dogs. Let's recap twenty twenty three
just to give you a sense of some of the
hot takes that we had, and I think we had
a pretty good season. It was a good year for
a hot takes in twenty twenty three. Let me start
off with here's my hot takes from last year. Mike
(16:46):
White will be the starting quarterback for the Dolphins by
the end of the year. Trevor Lawrence will be the
league MVP this year. Now, once again, I wasn't trying
to be accurate as well as much as I was
trying to be hot hot take.
Speaker 8 (17:00):
But to be fair, those are extremely hot.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
Yes, yes, and that's what I was going for it.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
By the way, if you're watching on Peacock and why
wouldn't you be, I do have the hot take chain
around my neck. This will be placed around somebody else's
neck by the time this segment is over. Hot Dogs,
hot takes, hotcakes. How about Paul? Paul said this last
year with his hot take, My third hot take?
Speaker 8 (17:26):
All right, Jordan Love of the Packers will lead the
NFC in passing touchdown.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
That's pretty warm. I think did he finish second?
Speaker 8 (17:34):
Second to deck?
Speaker 12 (17:35):
Okay, what were the other two hot takes?
Speaker 4 (17:38):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (17:40):
Well, it didn't work out.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
We skipping well, Paul made sure he put mine that
didn't work out.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
Paul's did work out. That's interesting. That's touch.
Speaker 12 (17:52):
My third hot take's competitive.
Speaker 8 (17:55):
Okay, I'll give you my two whists. Last year, I
had the Colts will be awful and have the first
pick of the draft. I think they won nine games
and Sam Darnold will start a playoff game for the
forty nine ers.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
Extremely wrong.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
I had that one as well, Yes, I had, But
then once again I was going for hont part of
the hot of hot take. I you know, it's once
again you can win this game but lose credibility.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
But I lost the.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Game and lost credibility. Here's Todd. Todd's big pick. Hot Dogs,
hot takes, Get your hot takes here.
Speaker 5 (18:32):
Sean Payton will only be able to fix Russell Wilson
so much. Denver finishes nine to seven and one and
improvements but not enough to make the post Caesar.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
It's not crazy.
Speaker 8 (18:41):
That's like a tep In take.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
Yeah, I mean that's not crazy, yeah, Seaton O'Connor.
Speaker 12 (18:46):
Todd went with that all goes well nine to seven
and one.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Take time Winter.
Speaker 8 (18:52):
Todd's other ones, Oh hold on to your hot takes
here Trevor Lawrence starts hot and then fades in December
was his Caliday hot take, which means a little bit
of both.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
But he did I think he faded? Would they lose
five of their last six?
Speaker 8 (19:05):
The Todd was more right, not hot, and then he
also Todd had Bills will win the AFC East, but
not win a playoff game.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
I'm doing it like Todd.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Seaton gave you Lamar Jackson would win the m v P,
so that's a big winner. And he also had this
to say.
Speaker 12 (19:23):
I think the Texans are going to be better this
year than people think.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
How much better will the Texans be?
Speaker 6 (19:28):
Six wins, seven wins, eight wins, eight winn eight eight
win Texans?
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Okay tenkay ten, and what did they win? I believe
they won game.
Speaker 12 (19:39):
I believe they did nailed it.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Did you have any other picks in there?
Speaker 7 (19:42):
Did so?
Speaker 4 (19:43):
Lamar Jackson Texans had.
Speaker 12 (19:45):
The Broncos winning the AFC. West's okay, not great.
Speaker 4 (19:48):
All right, but that's still spicy.
Speaker 12 (19:50):
There Desmond Ritter getting benched.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Marvin had Jared Goff winning the m v P. That's
that's warm, that's hot. Okay, So we're going to start
out AFC. I need two hot takes from you, Todd. Okay,
now I'm talking hot. If you don't give me what
I consider hot, there are no hot.
Speaker 7 (20:10):
Takes its consequences.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Yeah, I just you know, you gotta go out. No,
you know what, I got names in a hat here.
I'm gonna pick who goes first here, Paulie, second, Fritzy third,
Marvin Seaton, you'll go fourth. I'll go last, Paulie. AFC
(20:36):
hot takes here.
Speaker 7 (20:37):
We go.
Speaker 8 (20:39):
Russell Wilson of the Steelers as opposed to yep, Russell
Wilson will start a playoff game for the Steelers.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
Okay.
Speaker 8 (20:49):
My second hot take is Will Levis of the Titans,
who win the Most Improved Player in the League Award.
If there is one, which I'm not sure there is.
I think they're used to be. But if there was,
he will bonus take.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
You know what, he's going to be so improved they're
going to create the award.
Speaker 8 (21:07):
Correct bonus take with Will Levis. He'll lead the AFC
in touchdowns and interceptions.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
Yeah, that's pretty specific.
Speaker 7 (21:15):
That's big.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
That's called a hot take, actually done. That's a hot
take time. That's what it is. So that's the two
in the AFC.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
Yeah, Fritzy, Perhaps it's wishful thinking on my part, but
bow Knicks, who wears number ten, leads the Broncos to
ten wins as Denver participates.
Speaker 7 (21:29):
In a Roade wild card game.
Speaker 8 (21:30):
Everyone's got them over under like five and a half
or six and a half wins.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
He gets them to double digit wins as a rookie.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
I think that's I'm gonna say that's warm one with
the same exact take this last year, you had.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
A nine seven and one last year that was.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
Russell Wilson, this veteran that won Super Bowl at the Seals,
almost won two in a row.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
This is a rookie bow Knicks, No, no, all.
Speaker 5 (21:49):
Right, After a bad Week five loss at home to
the Cowboys, Mike Tomlin, Benches Russell Wilson for justin fields
that specific.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
Game, okay, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (22:03):
All right, So Jeffrey Simmons of the Tennessee Titans will
win Defensive Player of the Year.
Speaker 4 (22:10):
Okay, okay, got my attention.
Speaker 7 (22:13):
And then the New York Jets will go to the
AFC Championship Game.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
Okay, alright, Peter Seaton, o' connor, Joe Burrow will be
your MVP, and the Colts will make the playoffs. All right,
so mine in the AFC. No, I have to have
hot takes here, Yes, you do. The Jets will go
(22:39):
to the Super Bowl. Aaron Rodgers will win MVP.
Speaker 8 (22:45):
Whoa just trump, Marvin?
Speaker 4 (22:46):
Not about that? About that, Marvin.
Speaker 7 (22:49):
So they're gonna win the AFC Championship Game, yes.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Okay, and Aaron Rodgers MVP. Hot take time for the NFC.
Speaker 8 (22:58):
PAULI oh Man, I got a few? All right, here
we go. Kyler Murray Dan of the Cardinals is to
be specific, Kyler Murray. The Cardinals will start a playoff
game one of the worst teams in football. Last year,
Kyler Murray started playing, all right, this one, you're gonna
give me a little wiggle room with because this is
going to extend into January February. The Dallas Cowboys will
(23:20):
start twenty twenty five the offseason with no head coach
and no quarterback under contract.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Okay, okay, that's good. That's warm, Jodd, that's warm.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
The New York Football Giants were six and eleven and
twenty twenty three. They finished third in the division and
thirteenth in the conference. Daniel Jones and the g Men
will regress further, finishing no better than four to twelve
and one as your tiebreaker last in the NFC East,
one of, if not the worst record in the conference
in the entire league, and they will desperately miss their
services of Saquon Barkley. Four twelve and one New York Giant.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Okay, I mean, I don't know what the over under is.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
It's probably five and a half wins for them, so
you have them winning four.
Speaker 5 (24:02):
I don't think a lot of people think the Giants
are gonna have the worst of one of the two,
like worst records in all of.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
The Look, I'd be curious what they're over under is
with wins. Well, it's probably five and a half. But
I think people are looking at the Giant. I think
the Giants will be a lot better than people think
I do. Marvin gotta do much?
Speaker 13 (24:19):
Do I do?
Speaker 14 (24:19):
A second? Oh?
Speaker 4 (24:20):
You got another one. I'm sorry that one was so
hot that I kind of counted as too. All right.
Speaker 5 (24:25):
He rushed for nine hundred and sixty two yards with
six TVs last season. He missed a couple of games,
but staying with the Saquon Barkley theme, I say he
will run for at least fifteen hundred yards and at
least ten touchdowns this season as a member of the
Philadelphia Eason.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
Okay, they over under six and a half wins for
the GMA. Marvin all right.
Speaker 7 (24:45):
Sam Darnold will make the Pro Bowl.
Speaker 8 (24:48):
Oh game over wowes yep.
Speaker 7 (24:52):
And Raheem Moor's will win NFL Coach of the Year.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
Somebody's got Tampa they or Raheem Morris getting fired.
Speaker 7 (25:02):
That Hey the Atlanta Falcons? You like them? I like them?
They went in the division and.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Oh who had Todd Bowles getting Oh see that Todd
Bowles getting fired? Okay, Raheem Morris with the Falcons?
Speaker 6 (25:13):
Okay, seton, uh, let's see my NFC hot takes the
Dallas Cowboys will win Super Bowl fifty nine. Okay, that's
me and PAULI are head to head. That is, he's
got everybody getting fired. I have them winning.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
That's hot.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (25:29):
And for bonus picks, I have them beating the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
Okay, your MVP Joe Burrow Cowboys Bengals.
Speaker 9 (25:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (25:35):
And then I have the Panthers will win the NFC South.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
Oh wow, that's a big deal.
Speaker 12 (25:43):
Panthers will win the NFC South.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
I have the Falcons going to the NFC title game.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
That's crazy, Thank you Tom.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
They will face they will face the l A. Rams
in the NFC titles.
Speaker 7 (26:05):
Calding know where that happens.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
All right, So, uh, what is the single.
Speaker 8 (26:11):
Hottest take of the past ten minutes?
Speaker 4 (26:18):
You have one that stands out, I.
Speaker 8 (26:20):
Gotta tell you Marvin putting Sam Darnold in the Pro Bowl.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Yeah, it's pretty pretty extreme, pretty warm.
Speaker 7 (26:28):
Panthers wings the division. I know it's a weak division,
but that's big.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
That that one's big. Any other one that stood out there?
Speaker 15 (26:39):
Take one.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
Barkley fifteen hundred yards and ten touches?
Speaker 7 (26:41):
Who said that?
Speaker 13 (26:42):
That's crazy?
Speaker 4 (26:46):
You from nine hundred and sixty to yards to fifteen hundred.
Speaker 8 (26:51):
That is crazy, Todd Rogers lunacy Roger super Bowl MVP
is pretty extreme call. Like you pushed it. You didn't
just say they'll make.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
The jet super Ball. Rogers wins the m V pick.
Speaker 7 (27:03):
Yeah, the Cowboys winning the Super bowls pretty out there too.
Speaker 16 (27:08):
All right?
Speaker 2 (27:08):
So which who had the hottest take? Who gets to
wear the hot take?
Speaker 7 (27:13):
I'm gonna go seating, Yeah, Panthers winning their Vision.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Seating is the hot taker, Satan, come over and get
your hardware. It's the hot take special Watson take necklace
seen and it's all your congratulation.
Speaker 4 (27:36):
Congratulations, You're welcome. And that's how it's done.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
You guys supplied the hot takes. I supply the hot
cakes and the hot dog. Thank you, tom uh Doug
in North Carolina? Hi, Doug, top that.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Well.
Speaker 16 (27:55):
I have a lukewarn take and a sizzling hot take
for you.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
Okay, lukeworm Takers.
Speaker 16 (28:00):
I think the Steelers are going to have their first
losing season under coach Drumblin. Okay, And the sizzling taker
is sometime before the end of the year, Tom Brady
will be renegated back to the studio.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Wait, what's the second one.
Speaker 16 (28:16):
He's Tom Brady will be moved from the booth.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
Into the studio.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
That ain't happening, No chance that's happening. But thank you, Doug.
Speaker 4 (28:25):
How about Dave and san Antonio? Hy Dave, what's on
your mind? You guys?
Speaker 17 (28:32):
Good morning.
Speaker 15 (28:33):
This is my second time calling. I don't know if
it ever gets easier being on the phone with you guys,
but I think I got a hot take. I think
Polly was in the right direction about the Cowboys, right,
but I think what.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
Dan said earlier.
Speaker 15 (28:46):
They trade Dak at the end of the year, their
head coach gets fired mid season, that goes to the Raiders.
The Raiders give them the first round pick. They also
pick up the second round because they're season doesn't go
the way they think it goes. And we all know
what happens after that, right, We get Shadori and Travis
(29:07):
Hunter as first and second round picks of Dallas.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
And then of course Dion has to go and coach
the Cowboys if we're going to complete the triple crown.
Speaker 9 (29:15):
There.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
Thank you Sean and Ohio. Hi, Sean, what's on your mind?
Speaker 9 (29:21):
Very good morning, first time, Color five ten one fifty four. Hey,
I think super Bowl picks the NFC. NFC is going
to be Houston Texans. I'm sorry, AFC Houston Texans, NFC
Detroit Lyons.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Okay, yeah, and look, I have no real bias or
I'm unbiased when it comes to making these picks. I
don't play favorites. I don't care. I just want to
get it right. And I have people like, why don't
you like the Texans. It's I don't like the Texans
from the standpoint of they're not surprising people this year
and they have a really tough schedule this year.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
That's all.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
I think Jacksonville's gonna win the division. It doesn't mean
I don't like the Texans. I just have to make
a prediction based off what I know. I couldn't care
less if Jacksonville wins the division. But if you're asking
me make a prediction, you know, people get all upset.
Speaker 16 (30:19):
You.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Oh, you're a Steeler hater. No not, Oh I knew
you didn't like you know the Ran.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
That's not the case. You know, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 8 (30:30):
Yes, boy, that guy almost made the mistake. I just
checked back in the twenty twenty two Hot Take draft,
I picked the in and Outs cults to win the
NFC title. They're not in the MS.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
That's okay.
Speaker 8 (30:44):
That was a hot take time. I mean, if you
talk about something that's unlikely to happen.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
That is a hot take.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Barrett Barrett, North Carolina, Hi Barrett, what's on your mind?
Speaker 17 (30:53):
Gentlemen?
Speaker 9 (30:53):
Uh?
Speaker 13 (30:54):
Not calling to defend Frazie today, calling to tell Francie, Francie,
you needed to defend those hot cakes because if you
haven't already, Marvin's coming for him, because hot takes, gentlemen,
Marvin scared, Ron? Time take hotcakes?
Speaker 4 (31:12):
With this hotcakes, I think we don't have it. I'm
work it out.
Speaker 7 (31:17):
Thank you well, inebriated or something. I couldn't follow that.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Wait, that's somebody who's defended you before. All I know
is scared.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
Yeah, why are you scared?
Speaker 7 (31:27):
Because I'm just scared. I don't even know the cakes
are scary. Sometimes he's a Marvin scared because you he
sounded like me with debo and when you did the
thing you played pop warners syrup and you're scared.
Speaker 4 (31:40):
You're You're fast, scared, You're fast?
Speaker 9 (31:44):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (31:45):
Tim in South Carolina? Hi Tim, what's on your mind? Hey?
Speaker 18 (31:48):
Dan, first time caller. I just wanted to say, I
listen to you guys every day. I love the show.
I had a thought about the twenty three and me. So,
if you found out you were living having the wrong
heritage and you wanted to switch countries, would you have
to go into the country transfer for.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
Well done? Thank you, thank you, Tim. Yeah, yeah, I
guess I would and have to officially announce I'm going
into a transfer portal for another country.
Speaker 7 (32:18):
There.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
All right, let me take a break. A lot of
people have their hot takes this year, and we'll we'll
welcome those. Also coming up in the final hour of
the program, there's a game on Friday night. It's the
Eagles and the Packers, and we'll talk to the men
who are broadcasting that game. They'll join us from Brazil.
No Eagle in Todd Blackledge.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
The NFL is kicking off the season two big matchups
tomorrow night Ravens Chiefs an NBC from Kansas City. You
can see that also on Peacock. Then on Friday live
from Brazil, Packers Eagles only on Peacock. The Many will
be calling all the action from Brazil. No Eagle in
Todd Blackledge on the call, and that'll be Friday night,
(33:09):
September sixth in South Paolo and Peacock the exclusive national
home of the NFL's first ever regular season game in Brazil.
Speaker 4 (33:18):
Guys, thanks for joining us. No, let me start with you.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
It's interesting when you go to a certain campus or
a city that you already know that city or that campus.
This is different being in Brazil. So what is it
you're trying to gather to then add color on Friday night?
Speaker 14 (33:37):
Yeah, Dan, there's honestly only so much that I think
we're trying to gather ahead of time. We've got a
great crew and extended crew that's here with Jack Collinsworth
and Roden Harrison and Tony Dungee, so they're doing a
lot of the intel for us of getting around South Paolo,
getting a feel for the environment for us too. We're
really focused on the game and focused on the matchup
and making sure we do justice by that, but very
(33:57):
exciting for the NFL to be here and that there's
a pretty big audience in South America, especially in Brazil,
so we'll try to make sure we at least highlight that.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
Yeah, I was going to ask you about that, Todd.
The growth of football around the world. They're trying to
make it a global sport by having fan bases in
certain countries, as Brazil made their claim to the Eagles
or Packers.
Speaker 17 (34:20):
Well, I think some stuff that I've read it seems
like the Packers might be a little bit more of
the favorite here, but I think that's kind of a
national thing, international thing anyway, a real strong fan base.
But it'll be fun. It'll be a fun game to
be a part of. And you know, they play some
American football here. They have a couple of organizations that
(34:40):
play flag football, which is a huge initiative by the
NFL right now has made its way down here as well,
and so it should be a very interesting crowd on
Friday night.
Speaker 4 (34:51):
What's the stadium like, we're talking about a soccer stadium. Yeah, yeah,
we haven't.
Speaker 17 (34:56):
Been there yet, but it is a soccer stadium. But
we'll probably we visit it tomorrow and kind of get
a get a feel for I think the seating is
going to be maybe fifty thousand. I don't think it's
going to be any bigger than that, But I've understood.
The understanding is it's a beautiful place, great field, and
so the players should like the surface they're playing on.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
And as far as calling games outside of the country, Noah,
you of course were at the Olympics. But the degree
of difficulty change at all because you're not in the
United States.
Speaker 17 (35:27):
Yeah. I think it's just you adjust to your environment.
It's different wherever you go.
Speaker 14 (35:31):
I think my bigger issue, Dan is I spent so
long trying to perfect French.
Speaker 17 (35:36):
That now that all us outside of England.
Speaker 14 (35:39):
So I walk up to everybody here saying bonjour and
bull spot and they look at me like I have
six heads.
Speaker 17 (35:44):
But it'll be different.
Speaker 14 (35:46):
It's a soccer stadium, so the configurations are going to
be a little different of our booth.
Speaker 9 (35:49):
You know.
Speaker 14 (35:49):
I got to do the Notre Dame game in Ireland
last year and that was the first time I ever
called a football game literally outside and.
Speaker 17 (35:58):
It started to rain. So that was where now you're
looking around and.
Speaker 14 (36:01):
Saying, do we have enough coverage or my chart's going
to be completely soaked?
Speaker 17 (36:04):
And I read But you figure it out and you
just adapt as you go.
Speaker 2 (36:09):
Todd, you got a better handle on how the Eagles
are going to be this year or the Packers.
Speaker 17 (36:14):
Well, it's interesting. I think both teams, you know, they're
obviously they're seasons ended in different directions last year, they
are completely trending in different directions. But I like what
both teams did in the offseason. I think both have
a chance to be really good this year. You know,
Philadelphia brought in new coordinators on both sides of the ball.
Green Bay brought in a new defensive coordinator. I think
(36:36):
you have two of the best quarterbacks in the National
Football League. And I just think that again, both teams added,
you know, kind of exchange running backs, so we get
to see Saquon Barkley for the Eagles. I think he's
excited about the change of scenery. I think that Josh
Jacobs the same way with Green Bay. Both teams have
outstanding receiving corps, you know, good offensive lines. I think
(36:58):
the Eagles have any lead the offensive line even without
Jason Kelcey in the center since he retired. So I
think we've got two outstanding offensive football teams and two
defenses that are going to be breaking in new systems
and new coordinators on Friday night.
Speaker 4 (37:15):
I'll give this to both of you.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
I'll start with you, Noah, what kind of info are
you trying to get when you go to those production
meetings and the coaches there and the quarterbacks there. How
much can you push before you're pushing too hard to
get something that you can share on Friday night.
Speaker 17 (37:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (37:31):
I think my philosophy has always been, you know, we
can all go and listen to what they're saying in
press conferences, we can read what they've said in articles
and whatnot.
Speaker 17 (37:41):
I want to try to find a couple of things. One,
I want to humanize.
Speaker 14 (37:44):
The athletes, So can I get something that maybe is
going to showcase who they are outside of football, outside
of what they do in their sport. The second thing
is I want to expand on what I've heard, So
if they've said something publicly, I want to see if
I can then take another step forward. And then the
third thing is is you just want to find a
way to get the mindset of the overall player. So
(38:04):
whether that's going into the season as we have right now,
what's their mindset overall on the season, whether that's the
mindset of what's happened already over the course of a year,
or even just something very much micro, but you want
to find some mindset, something that then you can use.
Speaker 17 (38:18):
So that's kind of the three things that I'll try
to toddle between.
Speaker 14 (38:21):
And it's a case by case thing because everybody reacts
differently in these meetings.
Speaker 17 (38:25):
There are some guys that I think are.
Speaker 14 (38:26):
Open books, and there are other guys that maybe are
a little bit more difficult to crack lets it.
Speaker 17 (38:32):
Yeah, yeah, I think for me, you know, one thing,
in talking to the coordinators from both teams, I mean,
I'm going to try to pull some football stuff and
some X and O stuff from them that I might
be able to integrate again with a first game, you know,
there's a lot of weight and see. And you know,
the thing about the NFL that is probably different than
the college game is, you know, I think in the
NFL they're very much about making adjustments in game, adjustments
(38:55):
not just have time adjustments, but in game. And I
think that is even more comes to light in a
first game because there's a lot of unknown still. And
when I talked to the coordinators on both teams, it
was kind of like, Okay, trust our training, trust our rules,
and then we'll make adjustments based on what we see
that we don't know. You know, Jeff Hafley was a
(39:16):
defensive coordinator for the Packers. He was a head coach
at BC, So they're going to have to see exactly
what he's doing and they'll make adjustments in the game.
And then the other thing for me is I've been
doing this such a long time that I kind of
build off of relationships, you know, relationships that I've made
along the way. And we were on a call with
Jalen Hurts yesterday and it was kind of funny because
(39:37):
I started asking him a question. He interrupted. He said, Hey, Todd,
wait a minute. You remember the first opening game you
did of mine, don't you? And I'm thinking back and
I said, oh, yeah, I do remember Oklahoma against Houston.
I think he threw five touchdown passes. He says, yep,
that's all right. Sont off of those relationships that I
have and build off of that.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Okay, But Noah does Todd go into the quarterback mode
where he speaks a different language when he's around the
offensive coordinator and then the quarterback you know, the yz
banana curl blah blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 14 (40:12):
No I haven't heard of Spider two White Banana ass
sept from Todd Blacklitch yet, but I know it's in there.
I think when he talks to the coordinators, which he's
done now our last couple of games separately, I'm sure
that's where a lot of that comes out, which is
better for me, because if I was sitting here and
he starts bringing some of that stuff out, it would
sound like the Portuguese again, and then I feel much
(40:33):
more uncomfortable once again. But no, I like when Jalen
Hurts gives him a little wink. Wait, thanks for being
on my game. I feel comfortable again. That's that's the
fun stuff for me.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
You don't do that, do your ton You don't go
into the uh used to play the game.
Speaker 4 (40:46):
Let me let me tell me, let me ask him.
I might check down used to be this.
Speaker 17 (40:52):
Now I don't. I don't do that. I I mean, look,
I love talking ball, I love you know, doing that.
But at the same time, you know, I know the
audience that I'm that I'm speaking to. Also, I mean,
I'm not going to do that on the air either.
I want to say it in a way that everybody
can understand. I always try to answer the question why
why this play works, why didn't it work? Why is
(41:13):
the game going this way? But I want to say
it in a way that anybody could understand and say, oh, wow,
that's a good point. I didn't. I didn't realize that.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
Did Romo change anything for you when he started predicting, Like,
do you think, analyst, or did you feel like, wow,
I should I change? Do I to do something different?
Because Romo was you know, noster damis with some of
these plays.
Speaker 17 (41:38):
Honestly, and I'm not saying this, I'm not pulling, you know,
toot my own horn. But I felt like I had
done that before, not to the same degree. But I
always try to look ahead. I think there's a balance
for an analyst of looking back, analyzing or replay breaking
down what just happened, but also being able to spin
the game forward and what you anticipate and what you feel.
(42:00):
And you know, part of your preparation and film study
is to be able to do that. So I feel
like I've always kind of had a good balance of that.
He obviously, early in his career particularly, really took that
to a new level. And I would expect Brady in
his first year will be very similar because he's so
closely removed from the game it. You know, I would
(42:21):
expect him to be very very similar here coming out
of the gate.
Speaker 2 (42:25):
And also with no huddle, everything's hurry up. You don't
get that much time to really reset something, and I
think it makes it harder on the play by play guy.
I've said this about Jim nance He's got to kind
of grab whatever Tony says and leaves it out there
in the ether, bring it back, call the play, and
then Tony might jump in a little bit, and then
(42:45):
Jim's got to bring it back. So you know that
the speed of the game I think has changed how
we broadcast a game. Know, you're not old enough to
have you know, remember your dad is, but to remember
what it was like when you got to huddle up,
you know where there was a little bit more freedom
there to set up your analyst.
Speaker 17 (43:03):
Yeah, that sounds like a different sport and.
Speaker 7 (43:07):
To huddle what is this?
Speaker 17 (43:10):
No?
Speaker 14 (43:11):
No, I mean, I know Todd said he didn't want
toot his own horn. I'll toot his horn for him.
Todd to me, and we've gotten a chance to work
together now for a little over a year.
Speaker 17 (43:21):
You talk about space.
Speaker 14 (43:22):
You talk about understanding when each of us have to
get in in our roles.
Speaker 17 (43:26):
I hadn't worked with many people better than this.
Speaker 14 (43:29):
I mean, this guy is so good at one economy
of words and understanding what needs to be said and
how to say it properly. But two the point that
he just made. He has the perfect blend of looking
back and looking ahead. And so when you listen the
analysis that he has, and it's because of all the
film that I watch him watch. I mean last year,
we would spend time in our compound and I would
(43:49):
just watch him call him.
Speaker 17 (43:50):
Through through and he would say, hey, look at this,
look at this tight end. I can't believe he did this.
Speaker 14 (43:54):
And I'm like, dude, I'm not going to mention this
the air, but it's impressive that you're doing.
Speaker 4 (43:59):
It makes my.
Speaker 14 (44:00):
Job a lot easier, it makes my life a lot smooth,
and so I'm very appreciative of that. But he definitely
does all of those things. And so I think, you know,
because NFL fans don't get to see him all the time,
they'll get a real glimpse of that again on Friday.
Speaker 17 (44:13):
You know what's interesting, though, Dan, is you know we
did two NFL games last year, and after doing thirty
years of college football and you know, a whole season
with Noah last year, the NFL game has a much
more comfortable pace overall to call his broadcasters than the
college game. There's a whole lot more urgency and speed
(44:34):
up and hurrea in the college unless you're doing a
Michigan game. They're one of the only teams that's still
in college football at all. But the NFL, the normal
pace of the game is much more comfortable from a
broadcast perspective than the college game.
Speaker 4 (44:50):
No how often does your dad critique your work?
Speaker 17 (44:53):
I critique my work, zero critique me in life all
the time.
Speaker 14 (44:58):
Why would you wear that shirt's all black on Dan Patrick?
Speaker 17 (45:02):
I guarantee that's going to be the next thing. No,
you know, I would say critique is the wrong word.
Speaker 14 (45:07):
I think that, you know, we talk every day and
we just talk about life and what's going on. And
then every now and then, if one of us said
something on the air that maybe I said something he liked,
I'll say, oh, that was really good. And then there
are other moments where said, hey, you said it this way,
think about doing it this way. But it's not overbearing.
It's never been something where I'm like he needs to
stop talking. He also, i think, has allowed for me
(45:30):
to really come to him and be the one to
be the catalyst of some of those conversations. And I
always want to continue to improve. That's been my real
