Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app.
If you're watching on Peacock, you'll notice we don't have
a full lineup. Polly is not here today, hopefully tomorrow,
and talk to him yesterday and he's doing a lot better.
I'm not sure where Fritzy is. Could somebody let Fritzy
know that the show has started. I do not see
him in his seat seat and he is your.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Back row mate.
Speaker 4 (00:28):
You want me to go find him?
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Well, I don't want to lose you too. Maybe the
Oh no, we weren't doing costumes today.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
A happy fellow right there.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah, Fritzy has got his a shark costume on today.
Not a sharp costume. A shark costume.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Mostly covers his mouth too, which is great. Yes, can
you speak in your shark costume?
Speaker 5 (00:52):
I could speak a little bit.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Howes that sound good? Didn't we talk about this we
weren't wearing costumes.
Speaker 5 (00:57):
Yeah, yeah, but it's sports theme. I'm no ordinary shark.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Ready he shoot scars?
Speaker 5 (01:01):
What kind of shark ball?
Speaker 3 (01:04):
You're a San Jose shark? Okay, San Jose shark?
Speaker 5 (01:14):
Thought you guys are all getting dressed up?
Speaker 6 (01:16):
Can we just not do anything for the show today?
But just watched Todd try to manage his headphones and
then yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:26):
I can't like wear the thing and have the headphones up.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Okay, you you can't do anything yourself.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
It is not possible for you to do anything yourself.
Speaker 7 (01:39):
He is.
Speaker 6 (01:40):
I did not imagine that he would be struggling this much.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
Shark shuck, shark shark.
Speaker 5 (01:46):
Remember that song?
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Now, wasn't this a video where they had.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
He conducer for headphones this particular outfit.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah, who's the pop singer had the shark? Oh? Katy Perry,
Katy Perry? Is that where that shark costumes?
Speaker 6 (02:04):
I think we did like a than for some reason,
I feel like I was out in the streets in
New York City wants.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Ordering food, and that you had lost a bet. Yeah,
well Todd didn't lose a bet, and he just decided
to show up in costume. No one else is in costume.
You know, I don't like costumes on Halloween.
Speaker 5 (02:20):
Something crazy happens in the sports.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Yes, then I'm dressed as little Bill Peete, and you
know I'm talking about something really serious.
Speaker 6 (02:28):
I have a lot of other questions. By the way,
if that was your choice of costume, no, buddy, that
we're going on eighteen straight years of nothing happening on Halloween,
so you would have been okay all this time, you
could have drawn up, you know, shown up as the week.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
We don't know, we just started, we just started. We're
nine minutes in, yeah, eight minutes in.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Okaying about Brewers memories.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Do you want to take go ahead, take off the costume?
Speaker 8 (02:53):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Absolutely?
Speaker 6 (02:54):
Are you sure though, because watching him try to navigate
his headphones right now is okay?
Speaker 3 (02:59):
How about we see if you can make it to
the commercial break?
Speaker 5 (03:03):
Wow, okay, we can try that, all right.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
So the Dodgers win the World Series, the Yankees collapse
in the fifth inning and Fritzy into numerology.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Do you want to give the numerology? Can you even
hear me.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
The numerology of five?
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (03:19):
Because they with the fifth inning and missicos five to
five and Freeman who got to hit them at at
five to three and he's the MVP of the World Series.
Where's number five? There's a lot of stuff going on
with five.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Okay?
Speaker 7 (03:30):
All right?
Speaker 3 (03:30):
So the Yankees this is how it sounded.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
The final call on AM five seventy LA Sports Dodgers
Radio Network, Dave.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Roberts can hardly watch.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Here's the one two pitch from Bueller got him swinging.
Speaker 9 (03:45):
That's it. That's a world series Flint for LA. They've
done it. They've finished the job, and give Los Angeles
the parade it's been waiting for.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
It's the warm up. Dodgers on the right side of
the infield.
Speaker 9 (04:03):
Grown men, but children again living out their dream.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
That's courtesy of AM five seventy our friends in Los Angeles.
A seven game series comes down to more than one player,
one person normally, and with all the millions and millions
and millions of dollars that both of these franchised spent
this year on their rosters, it comes down to small things.
Small things like catching a fly ball, covering first base,
(04:32):
making a good throw to third base, taking advantage of
a situation. You know, Aaron Judge drops a routine flyball,
and you know, the fifth inning started harmlessly. It was like,
all right, you know five nothing, Garrett Cole was dealing,
all right, We're going to Los Angeles for a game six.
Then all of a sudden it happened. Judge drops the ball.
(04:53):
Anthony Volpi an error throw to third and then Garrett
Cole he sees a dribbler from Mookie bat Let's go
up the first base line. Anthony Rizzo, he's sort of
waiting for Garrett Cole to be over there and give
credit to Mooky Bets because he got down the line.
He never ever said, well, I just grounded out to
(05:13):
en the inning. If you look at Garrett Cole, he
comes off the mound, he's headed towards the dugout. Anthony
Rizzo backs up. There was maybe a little nonchalance on
his part there. I don't know if they would have
gotten Mooki Bets in fairness to the totality of the play,
but Garrett Cole has to This is what you work
(05:34):
on in spring training. When you go watch spring training,
you'll see this every single day. All right, I'm gonna
throw it and then I'm gonna go cover first the
first baseman throws it to me. Then you get in
the back of the line. This is simple. This is
just baseball. One oh one. Get over there. But do
(05:56):
not rule out or forget Mooki Bets getting out right,
hitter getting out of the box, getting down the line,
and really putting pressure. This is what happened with Mookie
Wilson in the World Series with Bill Buckner. He put
pressure on Buckner. Buckner was not going to get the
ball over to Bob Stanley. Stanley was not going to
get there in time. And this is what Mookie Betts did.
(06:18):
He did not give up on the play. He put
pressure on them. Garrett Cole doesn't cover first base, Rizzo
is there holding the baseball, and then all of a sudden,
Freddie Freeman gets his opportunity and he didn't miss.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
He didn't miss at all during the entire World Series.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
But you know, you're watching this and you're trying to
go and you're trying to understand how do you make
these little mistakes?
Speaker 3 (06:42):
But this is the Yankees.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
The Yankees were not a clean team, terrible bass runners.
You make mistakes, they didn't hit. But give credit to
the Dodgers. And I'm going to start with Dave Roberts.
I know Freddie Freeman, you know, is your MVP, and
rightfully so, probably unanimous. Daberts did a wonderful job and
I liken his personality to Terry Francona. Francona dealt with
(07:07):
big names and big egos and he managed that, and
he managed that on and off the field. And Dave
Roberts has some of that in him that he's able
to take.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
They play like they're a scrappy.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
You know, small market team, and that is really a
testament to Dave Roberts. And I know that we question him.
You know, it felt like each year his job is
hanging in the balance, and I hope that people aren't
second guessing him. He did a great job with the
pitching staff, Walker Bueller coming in and a unique stat
(07:45):
where you save a game and you win a game
that doesn't happen very often in World Series history. Freddie
Freeman was great, but you get production from the bottom
of the lineup. It's just small things that made them
world champs. Here's Dave Roberts, the manager.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
Yeah, we have talked about this in the past.
Speaker 10 (08:04):
Dave, how much it irritated you to hear people say
eleven straight postseason Berts only one title?
Speaker 5 (08:11):
Only one?
Speaker 4 (08:13):
How do you feel about that criticism?
Speaker 10 (08:14):
Now, I'm going to take the high road. You know,
it's hard to win a championship, regardless of you know,
what your team is like. It's hard and there's a
reason why there hasn't been a repeat champion since the
Yankees did it, and so it clearly speaks to the
difficult the playoff format, all that stuff. And so I'm
going to be in the moment and I'm going to
enjoy the heck out of this one. And I'm sure
(08:37):
there's no asterix on this one.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Ah, there you go. I liked it.
Speaker 2 (08:41):

Speaker 3 (09:20):
I already have the World Series odds for next year.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
According to DraftKings, your favorite the Dodgers, followed by the Yankees, Braves, Phillies,
and the Orioles. That's according to DraftKings. I don't know
where Juan Soto is going to go. I don't know
if Juan Soto knows where he's going to go. I
think he'll go to the highest bidder. His agent is
(09:45):
Scott Boris, and it usually happens that way. But if
you're the Yankees, if you're Juan Soto, have you seen
enough where you want to stay with the Yankees? Being
a left handed hitter and having that right field porch,
I would certainly end retain the idea that that's where
I want to be and in a lineup that's got
other guys power guys. You know, it was just a
(10:09):
and I said this during the World Series, maybe the playoffs.
It's not a well built lineup there. And I think
that'll be the key in the offseason is can you
make it a fuller lineup as opposed to we got
three really good hitters here and then we have a
bunch of pedestrians. We thought the Yankees had the better
pitching staff. Dodgers didn't get a lot out of their
(10:32):
starting pitchers, but they got enough out of their starting
pitchers and then you had Freddie Freeman and that was
pretty much enough. But I did like that one. Soto
goes hey right after the game. He's like, Hey, all
thirty teams, I'm open for business, and I'm like, one,
I'm going to guess there's maybe four teams, three teams
(10:55):
who can afford you. It's not thirty teams. I don't
think we're going to have this announced in the offseason.
Juan Soto has just announced he is going to the Pirates.
That's not going to happen. It's probably going to be
maybe Toronto, the Yankees, the Mets, maybe the Dodgers. They've
talked about do the Giants try to make a splash.
(11:17):
They've tried to do that in previous seasons. So one,
Soto's probably got maybe five teams that he can entertain
the idea of joining them, and you're probably going to
have to start the negotiations at around six hundred million dollars.
Do I want that? No, because, once again, how many
(11:40):
stars can you have? You must have a full lineup here,
and if you're going to spend that kind of money,
what are you passing on that makes your lineup fuller?
Instead of I'm going to rely on that one guy.
The Yankees have relied on Aaron Judge. And I said,
Aaron Judge was going to Homer last night, and you know,
(12:00):
I was sad that I you know, he dropped that
fly ball because he had a great season, and I
don't want him remembered for that.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
I mean, and he won't be remembered.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
It's not one of those Bill Buckner, Oh that's all
you remember. Because of the magnitude of that error. They
were leading, they were going to win the World Series,
they were going to get rid of, you know, this
drought that the Red Sox had. Bill Buckner had twenty
eight hundred hits. If he didn't have you know, bad
ankles and knees, he would have had three thousand hits.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
He would have been a Hall of Famer.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
But Billy buck is known just for that one play.
You know, you had Judge out there and and for
some reason he's thinking about doubling up the runner.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Small things, fundamental, fundamental things. Here's Aaron Judge.
Speaker 11 (12:49):
I think follows from the little serious until I die. Probably,
I think, just like every other loss, you know, those
things don't go away. You know, they're they're battle scars.
Along the way and hoping my career is over. We
got a lot of battle scars, but also a lot
of victory all the way too.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Yeah, you know, I get it. It's going to eat
him up for a little while. And does it stay
with him? Well, it'll stay with him. The question is
does it stay with us?
Speaker 3 (13:14):
Do we go?
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Aaron Judge? Ohwie dropped the ball in the World Series?
All right?
Speaker 2 (13:18):
He didn't have a great World Series, but he did
Homer last night. It was just that play something really
really small. Hey, keep your eye on the ball. How
many times have we told that growing up? Keep your
eye on the ball?
Speaker 7 (13:32):
Show?
Speaker 8 (13:32):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Otani didn't do much in the World Series.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Obviously, it banged up with the shoulder, but he built
up enough credibility during the regular season playing through the
injury that he kind of got a Hall pass here.
And now you look at this Dodger team next year.
They weren't healthy this year, and then you get Otani.
He's going to be able to pitch. That's why they're
(13:56):
the World Series favorites.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
Yes, Marvin, Oh yeah, Clayton Kershaw's coming back too.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
I don't know, I don't know. I think it I
don't know. I mean, he's been through so much. I
don't know if I mean, he's probably going to say
let me go with the mindset of I'm going to
spring training maybe, but if you do bow out, I mean,
(14:20):
you won the World Series. You like to be part
of it. But he's been a part a lot of
the Dodgers' success. But for Dave Roberts, I'm happy for him.
I do like him, like him personally, and there are
times when I shake my head with some of the
moves that he makes, but not in the playoffs, so
I thought he did a wonderful job. And for Freddy Freeman,
(14:40):
he's one of those guys where you go, that's right.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
He was MVP.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
He and they seem to put the ball in the
same position when they were trying to get him out,
like I would never throw the ball inside to it.
And then he muscles that base hit and two runs
come in. That's just a professional hitter.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
Fox Sports Right has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to
listen live. Joey Vato thankfully is back with us. We
were talking about how you'll remember Aaron Judge and you
brought in show Hey Otani. That missed opportunities for both
(15:21):
of these guys on the big stage.
Speaker 12 (15:24):
Oh Man, Dan, I'm sorry the hamster jumped off the
wheel for my connection. I thought that show Hey approaching,
was approaching peak show Hey before he hurt his shoulder.
But Aaron in that last game very similarly. You know,
he looked fantastic. He had that beautiful home run to
right center field, he took some tough pitches for a walk.
(15:45):
I just thought he looked great, And I thought it
was a missed opportunity for all baseball fans. We didn't
get to see our best players at their best.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Yeah, and then Otani, but they build up a lot
of regular season credibility with the numbers that they both
put up. You just wanted to see that kind of
showdown Showcase go seven seven games and it comes down
to Otani or Aaron Judge in the I mean, that's
that's what we live for. We want those moments, we
want the best players on the biggest stage. How do
(16:14):
you explain Freddie Freeman of getting locked in like that
and it felt like they were pitching him sort of
in the same location.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
There was never a tough matchup for him.
Speaker 12 (16:27):
He's the type of hitter that against these right handed
pitchers that don't get swings and missus, he's going to
get three quality swings off every single at bat. And
when you get three quality swings off and you're a
contact style of guy, you're going to do damage.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
I'll tell you. When I played, I used to look
at the series.
Speaker 12 (16:50):
I used to look at who was pitching, and I
used to laugh to myself, I'm going to be able
to get swings off over and over and over.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
And that's how Freddie felt going into series. There was
no no a bat where he was overwhelmed.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
But weren't they putting it in the same location where
he was taking I thought, away, away, away, or if
it's inside, it's really inside. Not he could turn on it,
and that was what he was driving. I mean, he's
hitting home runs. So the novice in me is looking
at that, going why are they putting that ball? It
(17:24):
felt like in the same location.
Speaker 12 (17:27):
That was just a reflection of him executing on every
one of those opportunities. You know, when you watch a game,
notice how many pitches get missed, Whether by take take,
or by a foul ball or swing through, and he
got those opportunities and at a significantly higher percentage than
the average hitter was executing on it and putting in
(17:48):
play for a home runn or a double. And he
he just he just did that all theories long. And
I think he owns the World Series home run record,
consecutive game record.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Now, yeah, six he got back. Yeah he went six.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
If you go back to the Braves that six consecutive
games that he hit a home run. Didn't homer last night,
but still, you know, they didn't even know how healthy
he was going to be. I mean, you can look
at the Dodger I mean total team effort. But I
brought this up in the first hour. I thought Dave
Roberts did a wonderful job with his pitching staff, with
the roster, and they felt more like a smaller market team,
(18:27):
Like their approach felt smaller market, even though it's a
you know, billion dollar roster. And I think that's a
credit to the manager of we hustle, we make the
small plays. You know, we're going to pull the pitching
staff together, you know, be a bullpen game. You know,
all of those things. I just thought he pressed the
right buttons.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
I agree, I agree, but they didn't.
Speaker 12 (18:49):
They didn't have a strong pitching staff and their bullpen
was not strong either.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
They had some bright spots.
Speaker 12 (18:56):
Of course, trending was excellent, but to be when you
have to bring Bruce Buehler into in the game, you know,
that's saying that you don't have. You know, you don't
have a class a sort of thing to throw the
last two three innings of the game. Even on the
Yankee side, you know, they didn't have an ace bullpen arm.
They had some solid guys, but they didn't have guys
that historically have been dominant.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Have you ever had a moment like MOOKI had with
fans where they were trying to take the ball out
of your glove?
Speaker 4 (19:24):
Shamefully?
Speaker 12 (19:26):
Shamefully, there was a pop fly down the first baseline
and one of the Cincinnati Reds fans reached over and
we made contact, and I didn't catch the ball, and I.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
Grabbed his.
Speaker 12 (19:39):
Cincinnati Reds logo and I kind of tugged at it,
like you're a Red fan, and I walked away. And
that was the first and last time I'd ever made
contact with a fan in general, and I called him
personally and I profusely apologized and we made you know,
we had a good relationship afterwards. But you know, I've
(19:59):
never seen that before, and it's I've never seen something
so egregious. I thought it was not good, especially on
the World Series stage, especially with such a classy player
as Mookie was. Who's who's like the sort of player
that you would watch with your children to teach how
to play, and so, uh, you know, to see that,
(20:20):
I was, I was.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
I was bummed out. But no, that's never happened to me. Thankfully.
Speaker 12 (20:24):
I would have probably reacted, not in a good way,
not as classy as Mookie reacted.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Did you ever talk to Otani was when he was
at first base? Did do you eat?
Speaker 10 (20:35):
Like?
Speaker 2 (20:35):
What do you there's a language barrier, but do you
think he knows and can speak a whole lot better
than he leads on?
Speaker 7 (20:43):
Well?
Speaker 12 (20:44):
When I when I first played against him, excuse me,
A couple of times that I played against him were
when he was with Anaheim, so that was at the
beginning of his career, and the first occasion that I
crossed paths with him, I said, wow, you're fast, and
he goes, thank you.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
I got the.
Speaker 12 (21:01):
So in my experience, we were having a Japanese English conversation.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Okay, yeah, okay, deep deep conversation.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
Huh you're really fast. Yes, the great to talk to you.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
And uh, I hope, uh you're doing something with your life.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Now, what are you doing with your life?
Speaker 12 (21:23):
I'm clearly uh in environments that that don't have strong
Internet connections, so I could I could stand upgrade from there.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
But I'm doing great.
Speaker 12 (21:32):
I been doing some surfing and and it's been doing
some traveling.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
It's been great.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Then, Okay, I hope I see you, you know, involved
with baseball next year. I hope that there's something if
you want to be involved in a you know, MLB
network pregame show or something. You got too much knowledge
and personality to have it not be seen.
Speaker 4 (21:54):
That's kind of you.
Speaker 12 (21:55):
I love the game, I love talking about but more importantly,
I love to learn. And this is the sort of
worked that if you don't stay up with the current trends,
if you don't keep up with the the industry, you
can fall behind. And I don't want to be one
of those types. Either I'm in or I'm out, So
I would imagine I'll probably take a step.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
Good good, thanks as always, Thank you, ysam. That's Joey Vado.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Thursday Night Football, it'll be the Jets and the Texans,
with the Texans getting one and a half. Rex Ryan,
ESPN NFL analyst, former head coach. You can see him
with Randy Moss and Alex Smith and Teddy Bruski, Adam Schefter,
Mike Greenberg. It'll be Sunday NFL Countdown every Sunday starting
(22:49):
at ten am Eastern. Rex, good to talk to you again.
Why are the Jets favored by one and a half.
Speaker 8 (22:57):
Well, that's a great question. I guess people haven't watched
the games. I guess, but you know, it might be
might be the reason. But but but Dan, seriously, though,
the Jets should dominate this game.
Speaker 7 (23:11):
I mean, when you look.
Speaker 8 (23:12):
At it on paper, Houston's really I mean, they're really
struggling to protect the quarterback right now.
Speaker 7 (23:19):
Uh no, Nico Collins.
Speaker 8 (23:21):
Now, now you don't have digs out there, so you
got one receiver to throw to. I mean, so the
defense should dominate for the Jets. And then on the
on the flip side, you have all this talent over there,
I mean when Mike Williams is not even playing for you,
you know, I mean you get DeVante Adams, you got
(23:41):
Garrett Wilson, you got two great backs on paper, you know,
Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. You should dominate this game, but
you don't play it on paper. And that's why the
spread is only a point and a half when it
should be about you know eight, you know, seven or
eight it looks like but and.
Speaker 7 (24:00):
I mean it really should be.
Speaker 8 (24:02):
But I mean, hell, if you watch the games, you know,
I see a team that is so poorly coached offensively
that like, you don't take advantage of your weapons went
you know, with you the Jets, like they should be
able to run the football. But I watched my tape.
I'm seeing linebackers running through unblocked. I'm like, you know,
(24:26):
simple things inside zone outside zone. It doesn't look like
they like they even know how to hell the block,
like who to I D And that's what it kind
of looks like to me.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
So you know, would you take the job if they
offered it to you today?
Speaker 8 (24:41):
Oh and I would definitely take it, like, not as
an interim guy, no chance, but as a yeah.
Speaker 7 (24:48):
Full time guy, you know, next year or whatever.
Speaker 8 (24:50):
Absolutely, because I believe in the talent there, I know
the ownership group, and and I love the fan base.
But of course, but at the same time, I'm not
the only guy. There'd be a million guys lined.
Speaker 7 (25:03):
Up with that job.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
I don't know how attractive it is though, Rex because
of Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 8 (25:11):
Well, I would think that would be part of the
thing that would attract you. But you've got to make
sure that he's one hundred percent committed to your team.
I think that's going to be the big thing. Like,
it can't just be on his terms. And I think
no coach is going to go in there and say, Okay,
it's on Aaron Rodgers' terms. Either he's either there with
you or you let him go. You know, you let
him go down the road. But you know, I think
(25:35):
that would be whoever gets that job, that's going to
be the first order of business.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
I would think, Okay, would you be not that you
wouldn't be able to, but would you stand up to
Aaron Rodgers and say what you just said there to
him and say, hey, you're either in or you're not.
You know, I'm not bs in here?
Speaker 7 (25:53):
Who me?
Speaker 3 (25:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (25:55):
Yeah, Like give me a break. Let's say, uh I
think so, I think I might might might do it.
Speaker 8 (26:04):
But the thing is, you would love to have them
behind you because you you're gonna change everything that offense
is is that that's that's outdated. It's not even close
to what I would would run or anybody else that
goes in there, uh is gonna run.
Speaker 7 (26:18):
So they don't.
Speaker 8 (26:19):
They use no motion, you know, no shifts, no no formations,
and yet they still had three delayed game penalties last
week in the first quarter, they had to use three timeouts,
like what the hell? And and they they don't do
anything creative over there. So to me, no, that's got
to change, Like it doesn't matter, it has to change.
Speaker 7 (26:40):
And is he willing to do that?
Speaker 8 (26:42):
I don't know, you know, probably not, you know, And
if that's the case, then so be it.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
So be it.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
If you were on the sidelines and Anthony Richardson comes
over and said, I took myself out because I'm tired, coach,
you would have said what.
Speaker 8 (26:56):
I would have said, that's that's cool, go ahead and
park it. On that on that bench, and you don't
have to worry if you'd be tired right now. That's it,
Like I've never seen anything like, daddy, we how long
have you covered this game?
Speaker 7 (27:09):
Have you ever seen a quarterback do that? Ever?
Speaker 3 (27:13):
I've never heard somebody admit to it.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
You know, somebody can be winded, get the you know,
win knocked out of him or something.
Speaker 3 (27:20):
But you got to lie in a situation like that.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
You got to say, you know, my chin strap is
messed up, or my communication anything.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
But you know, he's twenty two and he told the truth.
Speaker 8 (27:32):
Well, the thing that kills me is this, like, how
the hell did he think that was acceptable? Like, you
know in his mind, like, oh man, I'm just tired.
I'm gonna I'm going to tap out like I've been
rushing the past or you know, I'm a three hundred
pound defensive tackle.
Speaker 7 (27:47):
And thanks.
Speaker 8 (27:49):
But yeah, that's uh, that's Ripley's And here's the thing
that the whole team knows that somebody has obviously forced
the issue, whether it's the g saying you got to
play this quarterback or whatever, because right now he's got
a lower completion percentage in Tim Tebow. So it's like,
(28:09):
come on, stop already. And when he came out of college,
I never thought. I was like, you got to be
kidding me, Like, there's no way he can't. You know,
he's a guy that had no idea how to read
coverage is or anything else. You know, he's just a
big athletic guy, a freak. But but I thought he
had a million miles to come. And I was shocked
(28:29):
how well he played as a rookie though, and I'll
be at only three or four games. I was shocked,
And then it kind of felt back, this is kind
of what I anticipated this year, how he's playing. But
they're way better with Joe Flacco. At least they have
a chance with Joe Flacco at quarterback.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
And my opinion, he's Rex Ryan, NFL analyst for the Mothership,
former NFL head coach. The bear situation, we've dissected that
at the end of the Game of the Commanders, I just,
for the life of me, don't understand why a timeout
wasn't called.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
First of all, you gave up twelve yards.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
You didn't even contest it, so now you've put him
in the position to even throw the pass. Okay, you
got it. Timeout let's regroup. Let's remind I don't need
somebody engaging with the crowd, like I don't. They had
three timeouts, Rex right, you don't take him with you
when you die, Like what are you doing? I didn't
(29:27):
understand that.
Speaker 8 (29:28):
Well, absolutely Dan, when you look at it, like you
can see eber Flus because he like his example, like
his his explanation of the play before the hail Mary
was an absolute why because you see him on the sideline.
We did a thing with Daniel Laski and Greeny and
I and they where we showed him literally trying to
(29:51):
get the corner down, like he's literally like we can't
play like this, like we got to protect a sideline
and he had corners clearly one of them's turned backwards,
the other one's about thirty yards off, Like what are
you doing? And the thing it kills me is like,
you're exactly right. They should have called a timeout based
on that. But here's the other thing. They should have
(30:14):
called a timeout for your best pass. Rusher is sitting
on the sideline. Montez Sweat is sitting on the sideline,
Like isn't that another reason to call timeout? Let's get
our best pass rushers on the field. They had a spy.
They said, well, he's covering the back. Why the hell
are you covering a running back when they need eighty
(30:36):
hurts seventy yards. That's craziest I've ever heard. And they
got this guy. So it's a three man rush. And
by the way, they had no type of game on
the three man rush. So sometimes if you present a
three man rush, you're going to put the quarterback where
you won them. And they let this quarterback run around
(30:58):
either side. They had no idea how to how to
get the ball out of his hand there. You know,
they get double team. Every one of them got double team.
He's there for ten seconds or twelve seconds before he
throws the ball down the field.
Speaker 7 (31:13):
I mean, it's just it's just ridiculous. But yeah, I
mean he should.
Speaker 8 (31:17):
Have called time out, absolutely one hundred percent, just to
get the best personnel on the field, let alone. These
guys are turned backwards, and you know, John at the fans,
that was another reason, but it was it was unreal
and unfortunately, like for this guy. I think they have
a good football team. I think the Bears have a
really good football team. And obviously you got a young
(31:41):
you know, a young quarterback that's that's gonna have sinned.
He's not there yet, but man, I mean he's a
generational talent. So there's a lot of positive things about
this team. If you're Matt Abraflus, I don't know if
you can overcome this Dan, I don't know if he can.
Like this might be something that when they send them
down the road. This is one of the reasons.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Well, I wondered when the game ended.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Is this one of those games we look back and say,
if they had won that game, they might have made
the playoffs? And and look, he's a lame duck coat.
Were you ever a lame duck coach in the last
year of a contract?
Speaker 8 (32:18):
I sure felt it a few times, and I sure
felt to the double.
Speaker 7 (32:28):
So I don't know.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
What that feeling like. Mike McCarthy, right, how can you
feel comfortable? How can you not think about that?
Speaker 3 (32:37):
Rex?
Speaker 8 (32:39):
No, absolutely, that's on the back of your mind. But
all you can do is is like, and I've been there,
I've given the old Hey, here's a one year extension
or whatever. When you know, Dann well what that means,
like you're you're as good as gone, But you just
coach your your you know, you just coach your butt off, Dan,
that's what you do. You focus on that and at
(33:02):
no point do you ever like short change your players
or the guys that are coaching with you, and that so.
Speaker 7 (33:11):
It really like, you know it's there. You know you
have to win.
Speaker 8 (33:15):
You know it has to be you know it might
not be realistic expectations or whatever, but like.
Speaker 7 (33:23):
You've got to give every damn thing you got and.
Speaker 8 (33:26):
That's what you owe it to and that way, when
they do run, you're out of the building. At least
you're sitting there with your headheld high that you know
what I did the very best I could.
Speaker 7 (33:35):
And no regrets.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
I know the job isn't open, we assume it will be.
Is the Cowboys job a good job?
Speaker 7 (33:44):
Any job in the NFL is a good job.
Speaker 8 (33:47):
There's only thirty two of these things, but Dallas in particular, that's.
Speaker 7 (33:54):
Like, maybe that job's not for everybody.
Speaker 8 (33:57):
I get what you're saying, but if if you are
a guy that is competitive and wants to be in
that damn arena to say, I look, I'm gonna show
you how good I am all that type of stuff,
which that's what an NFL coach should be you want
a damn like I I mean, I would think anybody,
(34:18):
I mean would just love that opportunity come back, say
I I'm in it now, I'm in the fish bowl.
Speaker 7 (34:25):
Let's go.
Speaker 8 (34:26):
And it's like, you know, bringing out because that team,
that team is they do a great job personnel wise,
like they know what they know what a player looks like.
Speaker 7 (34:35):
You know, and I'll be it.
Speaker 8 (34:37):
Look, I know they didn't handle the offseason very well.
Speaker 7 (34:40):
I get that.
Speaker 8 (34:41):
You know, they probably could have, you know, the obvious one,
bringing a Derek Henry or something. That team might look
a hell of a lot different. But the fact is
they got a lot of good players on that team,
a lot of really good players on that team.
Speaker 7 (34:55):
So yeah, I.
Speaker 8 (34:56):
Would think they're going to get probably the pick of
the litter on you know, these coaches like this Ben
Johnson like, to me, he's an absolute superstar.
Speaker 7 (35:08):
Any anybody can get him.
Speaker 8 (35:09):
They had to say, all right, whatever it takes, I'm
getting this guy because I think he's I think he's unique.
I love how they like offensively. Everybody talks about, well,
they're loaded with talent. No that's not true. Last week
they played two guys that were cut this season.
Speaker 7 (35:27):
All right.
Speaker 8 (35:28):
Tim Patrick is the starting receiver, Alan Robinson as a
starting receiver. The superstar wide out they have was a
fourth round pick, Ammas Saint Brown.
Speaker 7 (35:36):
He wasn't supposed to be able to run, all right.
Speaker 8 (35:39):
David Montgomery was free agent anybody could have had as
a running back like they do more. Jared goffis thrown
thrown out with the bathwater. But this dude right here,
he is the funnest offense to watch, really the funnest
team in my opinion. They are so creative and with
shift's motion they get tell us from the defense and
(36:02):
man do they attack And this guy attacks you so
many ways, not only in the passing game, but they're
the most creative run team in the National Football League.
I think Sean mcvay's outstanding. All right, I think he's outstanding.
Here's what I love about Sean. He stole every run
that they did against Minnesota, that Detroit did against Minnesota
(36:23):
and used it against.
Speaker 7 (36:26):
In five days. All Right. I've seen Green Bay steal
from this team all that.
Speaker 8 (36:30):
All last year they played Dallas, the whole game plan
was what Detroit had run.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Like.
Speaker 8 (36:36):
This is the guy people are stealing from. Well, this
is the guy that everybody should go get and I'm
sure they will. You know, he's turned down i think
jobs two years in a row, so he's going to
be selective on where he goes. But to me, that
is a dang superstar Like I think he's going to
be the next great one.
Speaker 7 (36:56):
I really do.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Great to talk to you, Rex, Thanks for joining us.
Will be watching on Sunday, all right, my pleasure, damn
thank you.
