Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, and welcome to Waken Jake myself, Jake's story, Ellie
at Talking Jake.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
BBD at Big Baby David.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Talking A little ball will go around the horn. I
did a you know, a moment of realization. Jeff Passing
filled in on Talking Baseball today, Trevor Ploof calling a Twins'
day game, and Jimmy at the Cricket World Cup. Wow,
look at that. Look how far we've come, and compliments

(00:34):
to my boys. But also pretty cool. Jimmy was at
the World Cup yesterday, Aaron Boone. So in the past
twenty four hours, Aaron Boone and Jeff Passing, that's pretty cool.
So thank you guys for tuning in and subscribing. Who
is the better person?

Speaker 2 (00:54):
BBD M better?

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Who's the better guy?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Let's get ugly. We won't do that.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
Both were great and I enthus you uh to go
check out both Talking Yanks YouTube for Aaron Boone. Uh,
And there was I haven't gone back and listened to it,
but he hopped on. Booney hopped on with us before
for a minute. I'm assuming you cut out that part
of the convo. Yeah, there there's a pre conversation that

(01:24):
isn't in the episode pretty wild for Juan Soto because
you know, we were we were wondering how long it went.
But there was like they actually did a scary MRI
like Boone was waiting for the news and he like
got it in the tunnel before the Saturday game. Yeah,
like it sounded like yo he he in his head.

(01:46):
He explained this to his pre show, was like, oh,
this isn't like the Dominguez thing, like if Domingez like
couldn't could not hit and all that. And then but
then like in the moment where there was he the
results were in the guy like was like boom, come
come here.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah he said, like his something.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Yeah. So wan So Goa's back and the Yankees are
the best. They're bullying the Kansas City Royals, which that's
been fun to watch at night. It'll be fun to
watch the NBA Finals game tonight. Talk about that a
little bit. Uh even though we've covered the series a little,
but more so want to recap the conversation with brother

(02:22):
Jeff because it was a it's you know, in the moment,
so focused on listening to him because hey, he's Jeff Passing.
He's the voice of baseball.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
You know, he's not U but kind of. And I also,
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
I think it's the and I'm not an expert in
the field, but I think part of a good interview
is listening and responding to whatever they come up with
and being able to pivot off of parts of the
conversation that you want to talk about.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
I wanted to dive back in and cover a couple
of the topics that Jeff talked about. I think number
one and it's the fact that he he brought it
up and it's been my Louise Heel conversation is that
pitching injuries are so prevalent that, like you, if you

(03:21):
have pitching, you need to strike while the iron's hot.
Which sure, there's the top heavy teams in baseball right now.
The Yanks look great, the Dodgers look great, the Phillies
look incredible, and those teams are gonna be in the
mix come October like they've already done enough, like those
teams too big to fail. It's a phrase I use

(03:42):
a lot that I I think of Enron, which failed,
so I don't know.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
I should think of the car companies then we bail
them out. I know nothing. I only know.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Sports, though.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Those teams you just mentioned can kind of fully backpedal
from here, not fully, but you can. You can be
mid the rest of the way. So I fi these
teams that are very good could go five hundred the
rest of the way. They're in the playoffs, and it'll
be well, we're here in October. Roll the ball out there,
here's our best, here's your best. The other side to

(04:15):
it is now with expanded MLB playoffs and the Arizona
Diamondbacks Jake Snakes guarding the pool Game five of the
World Series. It was a great note by Jeff that
the other team that got there was in a very
similar boat. The Texas Rangers kind of flunked the dunk
down the stretch. They had an awful couple of weeks

(04:37):
leading into the postseason where they lost the West, like
gone the last day of the season right.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Them the Mariners.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
I think it was the day before because I know
the Mariners played on the last day and their game
didn't matter. That was George Kurky, the knuckleball. So it's
kind of that they had a disaster like two weeks
before the fire week of the season, so three weeks
total and them the Mariners in Houston were in a

(05:07):
Devil's threesome to see who was going to make the playoffs.
The Mariners end up flunking the dunk. More than that,
which we're going to talk some Mariners in a minute,
But the Texas Rangers weren't the prettiest playoff team last year,
like the AL was deeper and it's currently deeper this
year than the National League. But with that mindset going on,

(05:31):
the two teams that got highlighted the most by Brother
Jeff Mariners and the Pirates. Let's start with Seattle because
I think that's a more fun conversation because they are
first place in the AL West. They're on a three
game win streak. They're thirty nine and thirty six and
a half up on Texas, who's thirty one and thirty five.

(05:54):
Houston's thirty one and thirty seven. For those of you
keeping track at home, YO, not good. But Seattle they
have been good this year. You cannot like their offense.
Who cares in a year where there's parody throughout baseball? Hey,
the Seattle Mariners have a better record than the Atlanta Braves.

(06:15):
The Seattle Mariners are a couple games off from the
brewers pace, so I need to start giving them a
little more love, and it all ties to their rotation.
At this point, they are now one through five. With
the breakout of Brian Wu.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
It was the.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Mustache man tech. Mike was like, I like that guy's mustache.
Bryce Miller, Seattle has a group of pitchers. You do
not want to come see playoff time. What Jeff brought
up and I thought about diving deeper into for this episode,
but it didn't really have a great conversation, was just
the prospect capital. Which teams have prospect capital to trade?

(06:56):
Mariners do, Orioles do in a way everyone kind of does,
but supply and demand what there's time to get to
that with the Mariners Logan Gilbert fourteen starts a three
to one nine era. Sure, Luis Castillo fourteen starts three
to three five. Kirby three eight one, Bryce Miller three

(07:18):
eight one, Brian Wu in his six starts thirty three
point two innings A one zero seven era. So they
got five right now, and they've got other prospects hanging
around Emerson Hancock, a couple other guys Andres Munoz on
the back end. There's gonna be no complaints there. Could

(07:39):
you see them getting a more pure setup guy. Yeah,
but they really believe in what they do in their
bullpen formula.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
So we'll see what that looks like.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
It's the hitting and Julio we've talked about. His numbers
are starting to climb. Let's see where he is by
the end of the year. I've decided I'm all in
on cal Rally. I know the numbers don't jump off
the page. To eleven batting average, two ninety on base
that's not great, but the powers there seven oh four ops,

(08:09):
a one oh five ops plus, so you do have
to factor.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
In playing in Seattle a little bit.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
I love I love cal Rallies at bats and I
forgot that this is a theory that I'm gonna keep
pushing my narrative.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Catchers matter more. They just straight up do. I did
this last postseason. Every team had a primary catcher in
the mix. That was super important. Let's see if anything
changes with our Phillies.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
J T. Real Mudo getting knee surgery again. I doubt it,
like a too big to fail. He keeps saying that.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
I love cal Rally I was doing.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
There's been some hot takes around the office. Recently, Slash
Jason Kidd kicked it off by saying, Jalen Brown is
better than Tatum.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Let's mix it up. Why not?

Speaker 1 (08:58):
I was debating doing cal Rally's better than Julio. I
probably don't want to actually say those words, but I'm
about cal Raley h and I'm about Julio that the
Mariners need to go and get and whether that's Pee
Alonzo which Yankees Internet having a little fun with me

(09:20):
right now because I said the Yankees don't need Pee Alonzo.
But that's only because the Yankees don't need pe Alonzo.
They have a lot of righty mauling power hitters. They
have a lot of not athletic guys.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Sorry.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
Peteo is one of my favorite players.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
He's a beast.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
He's a traditional power hitter that can hit fifty homers
in any season.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
The Yankees would love to have pet Alonzo.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
He would make the Yankees better. But is he is
he the first ever player without any flaws?

Speaker 2 (09:55):
No pet Alonzo.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
For me, it goes back into that supplying demand and
I mentioned the prospect capital that matters.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
A little bit.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
Pete Alonso on the Seattle Mariners makes them a World
Series contender. Pet Alonso on the New York Yankees makes
them more of a World Series competitor.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
And don't get me wrong, like we would.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
We would start daydreaming and there would be some highlight
games where Judge Alonzo, Stanton Rizzo, Soto like, think about
those guys. Those guys have been icons on different teams.
Stanton MVP with the Marlins, Rizzo king of the world
with the Cubs, Soto king of the world with the Nats.

(10:38):
Judge like a living Legard, Pete Alonzo the King of Queens. Like, yes,
would love pet Alonso on the Yankees. And we'll figure
out the rest. But where the chips are gonna fall,
the Yankees aren't gonna pay the price for Alonso, and
other teams would need him more. That Ryan McMahon thing

(11:01):
that passing mentioned his article and I've been yelling for
a while.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
It is fine.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
I forgot how much second base Ryan McMahon has played that.
Ryan McMahon would be the perfect not only good ballplayer,
but also if third base falls apart for the Yankees
and DJ slashes Waldo. Okay, here's Ryan McMahon won a
Gold Glove.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
At the position. Pretty sweet lefty swing Yankee Stadium. We've
done that. Let's say it clicks.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
DJ lem Mayhew starts hitting like DJ lem Mayhew in
twenty nineteen, twenty twenty he had another good stretch?

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Was that twenty twenty two first half?

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Twenty two? Second half of twenty three, second half.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Of twenty three was his good on base stretch?

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Ye had just an eighths second half last year. Okay,
DJ clicks for the Yankees. But labor Taurus is struggling
a potential platoon option either way, or you know, this
is Glaber's contract year. Things aren't working out. Glaber's been
great lately. The defense is super soss. Anthony Rizzo at

(12:04):
first base just got bench for two days because he
was swinging a wet noodle at the plate. Uh that
Ryan McMahon, Yeah, I don't. I don't need to backpedal that.
Ryan McMahon is a better piece for the Yankees right now.
Pete Alonzo is a better baseball player. That's non negotiable.
Ryan McMahon's kind of good. Don't look at the ops. Plus,

(12:26):
that's my ask, not that this isn't a bad spot now,
but these a lot of Yankees considerations at the deadline like,
you know, we all are pretty in agreement. It's at
least labors last year here, potentially Rizzes as well. So
players like McMahon or and hefo or, you know, play
multiple positions and give you options for going into next year.

(12:50):
Flexibility this year, awesome flexibility next year. We'll see what
the Yankees do at the deadline. Their chips are obviously
all in on the table and they're gonna see what's
out there. But it and it could be interesting.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
But for Seattle, like this is not the year.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
The Astros are down this year? Are they gonna come back?
We'll see Texas is currently down. Are they gonna come back?
I think a little bit. Simeon's been going nuts. Suresers
on his way back. We're gonna see Molly de Grom.
Like Texas won the World Series last year. If you
can get into the MLB playoffs with an eighty six wins,

(13:29):
that's still very on the table for those teams. If
you're Seattle, you have a chance to win the West.
When's the last time Seattle won the West hookeun Game?
Seattle Mariners franchise page, Oh no, it's it's a while ago.
The Seattle Mariners have not won the West since two

(13:51):
thousand and one, where they won one hundred and sixteen games,
and they're like a footnote in Major League history as
one of the best teams to never win. Here we are,
twenty three years later, looking for a first Seattle. Let's go,

(14:11):
let's go make the moves. I don't know if it's Alonzo.
I don't know if it's Luis Robert. I mean paring
him and Julio as I'm sick fighting for centerfield. Maybe
just played two outfielders. That was always my dream. Seattle,
go and support your young pitching and bring in some hitting.
It's a no brainer.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
You have to do it.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Uh. Jason Dominguez rehab assignment is over, Okay, Probably to
tonight's scheme. Think's returned Jason Dimingez from his rehab assignment
and they've optioned him a triple A. John Brady to
the sixty day Jose and I were doing some of
Dominguez math. I think he just played nine innings back
to back days. You would think today being the second

(14:57):
of them, so probably dhr off tomorrow through the weekend.
Maybe then then you can think about another decision.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
He's been hitting a lot. I don't think they're gonna
call him up until.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Yeah, I thought decision day might come Monday.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Until someone goes down.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
So the other team that is becoming a part of
the forefront of a lot of conversations is the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Paul Skeen's.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Is doing funny business on the mound. Six starts, two
four to three ERA, forty six strikeouts and thirty three
point one innings pitch yesterday against Saint Louis six point one,
zero earn runs, eight strikeouts. Uh, they are let me

(15:50):
double check the game logs. Uh. On Skien's day, they
are five and one. The one game they lost was
that crazy San Francisco Giants come back from a couple
of weeks ago that they lost seven to six. Our
friend Jared Jones who visited the office. He's throwing cheese.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
He's been really strong for them this year. Thirteen starts
at three to two, one handsome, not as tall as
you'd expect a pitcher to be. No offense, No offense, Jared,
I'll root for you. And Mitch Keller who Mitch Keller
kind of broke out the final stats of his his

(16:31):
big season. Did it looked too impressive, like last year
he landed a four to two one, which you're like, okay,
but again, Era is in everything that he had two
hundred and ten strikeouts over one one hundred and ninety
four innings. Go look at some of the highlights of
how his pitches are moving. Yop, they have a three

(16:51):
headed monster at the top of their rotation right now
in a National League that still just remains unclaimed.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Like not necessarily the divisions.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
It's looking like Phillies, Brewers, Dodgers, everything else is open.
You know, I've done the National League standings with you
guys a few times and just how like lane slash
exciting the wild card is right now. Currently in the

(17:24):
playoffs as we record this are the San Francisco Giants
at thirty three and thirty five yikes, with a minus
twenty nine run differential. Actually they're more or less tied
with Pittsburgh, so you're the Pittsburgh Pirates. Another organization not
hanging a ton of banners recently that you have stumbled

(17:46):
into pitching. Sure you can find pitching, I think a
little more easy than in the past because we have
all this pitching technology and where people are throwing hard
or whatever that we're seeing. These guys have moments. The
thing is, the pitching injuries are insane and you can't
control them, and you don't know when it's gonna happen.

(18:07):
And Jeff laid it out amazingly for Pittsburgh. If you're
the Pittsburgh Pirates, let's say the pitching you keep running out.
This year, the Pirates land around five hundred. They missed
the playoffs by three games. Hey, we're excited for Pirates
baseball next year. Hoo okay, next spring training farm tightness.

(18:29):
Pick one of the three pitchers. This happens to every team.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Go look at it.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
Houston's injuries right now. I'll give my Stros some love.
The Houston Astros. You know everyone's going, whoa Houston is
this happening. We've done the conversation from the start of
the year. Lance McCullers, Junior, Jose or Keaty, Christian Javier
Luis Garcia. There's four man JV started the year on

(18:56):
the il Framber had an Aisle stint. Their starting pitching
is still twenty second in Era twenty fifth and whip
like injuries happen. Windows open and close so quick in
Baseball that if you're the Pirates, they've kept half a

(19:18):
window open, and partially because the National League is kind
of buns right now, within that last wildcard spot within
a odd game is the Giants, the Pirates, the Dbacks,
the Cubs, the Reds, and the Cardinals and the Nats.
Seven teams within one game. Some of this is going

(19:40):
to separate. I don't think the Nats even want to
be involved. They just won four games in a row.
So right now in the National League, that keeps you,
That keeps almost any team alive that the Pittsburgh Pirates.
And I agree with Jeff, and it sucks. The injury
thing with the pitchers is a nightmare. But like he said,

(20:01):
if one of them goes down next year, you're out
for basically a year and a half. Okay, so one
might go down the next year, and now when's Mitch
Keller becoming a free agent, and like then, do you
not have a full rotation? Do you not have the
three that everyone focuses that come playoff time? So I

(20:24):
I agree with him, and I think sometimes we land in.
Like you know, there's a chance that every every trade
deadline the rest of the way could be rougher because
more teams are going to be in the mix. That
buying can be tough because a lot of teams will
want to buy and talk themselves into it. If the

(20:46):
Detroit Tigers are three games out of the Wildcard, you
know they've been looking for they've been looking for some positivity.
It might be tough for them to sell a Jack
Flaherty and then they might want to add something small.
If you're the Pittsburgh Pirates, you got a good baseball town.
You got three pitchers shoving right now, and there's one

(21:08):
thing you can't control, which is the injury. So if
you have them now, I would love to see them
make a push for some hitting. And you just wonder
how significant of a piece that is, you know, will
would they go? Big fish? Deep sea fishing is the
phrase I was gonna say, big fish dishing.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Not words, not words.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
That Yeah, I'm Jeff opened up my eyes a little
bit that I think you could look at the Pirates,
the Giants, the Snakes, the Cubs, the Reds and be like, yeah,
you know what, you'd love to see these teams go
one way or the other. Pirates, now's our time you
called up schemes the like the first next pitcher since Blank.

(21:58):
Fill it in, however you want. Strasburg's a couple others.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
You call them up. His clock is ticking. How long
is he gonna be in Pittsburgh? Five years?

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Hopefully for you guys, six because that means you're in
it that final year you have ball skiins. The clock
is ticking. It's time to go go trade for some hitting.
I don't know if it's the Marlins. I don't know
if the Rockies are doing business that Pee Alonzo guy
we talked about. Mets are gonna sell good. That's what
they want to do. They've already done that. White Sox

(22:36):
if lou Bob's actually on the table, Angels have some pieces.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Here and there.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
We'll see if Houston actually gets sad. I think the
other team that's gonna be wild. And I'm Jeff brought
it up, not me, And I've said this before.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
The Rays.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
The Rays love to sell even when they're winning. They
love to sell when they're in first place.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
They sell work. They're constantly retooling that. Hopefully for them.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
Randy Rose Arena plays a little more like Randy Rose
Arena in the coming weeks, because you know, that's a
guy not only is there a little bit of star power,
which in baseball we don't have a ton of. Hey,
if you really think you're going to the postseason, wouldn't
it be too shabby to put that guy in your lineup?

(23:21):
Because it comes back to my old rule of what
does the other team not want? I don't want to
see Randy rose Areraina hitting against my team in the playoffs. Man,
I've seen that story. The best to ever do it,
Randy Roseraina. Let me go look at some playoff stats
just to keep myself excited. One dot one career in
the playoffs, thirty three games.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Yuck.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
I think he had he had one bad playoff series
against those two games. Uh yeah, he one dotted in one, two, three,
four five. He one dotted ops wise in five straight
playoff series, two bad games against Cleveland, and then three
seventy five batting average, five hundred slugging in two games

(24:09):
against Texas and last year's wild Cards. So yeah, if
you're the Rays, you don't want to trade Randy right
now because I think he's banged up in the ops.
It's in at six oh two, so we need to
see Randy get it going a little bit. I did
hear it was his hamstring and just slightly biasly. On
our DraftKings over under episode, we did take the under

(24:34):
on Randy Rose rain of steels. So I'm running for
Randy to mash give me them mashed potatoes, Randy, but
take it easier around in.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
The bases, in your spots on some first to thirds.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
No, it's another I mean a obviously, no one is
ever safe on the rays. So you can look at
a Brandon Lau like his where's he had in his
contract status? He's got team options the next two years
for ten and a half million in eleven and a
half million, looking for some lefty pop second base corner outfield,

(25:06):
like what's his career high in homers in a season?
Thirty nine And that was twenty twenty one, which wasn't
juice balls.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
I think some balls were.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
Hot that year. I think that was a year that
it was all mixed. I think the balls were warm
that year, and then the other one that if you're
looking to play some trivia with your pals later, uh
Yandy Diaz who in one of our Jam Baseball videos,
I think it's coming on like two months. So no,

(25:39):
real tease here twenty twenty three batting champion Yondi Diz.
Last year, Yandy was three thirty four to ten on
base and nine thirty two ops and he is under
contract ten mil next year with a team option for
twelve and twenty six.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Rai's gone raise babe. Uh. That yeah, I think they're
gonna be hot in the market.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
And let's go back to Pittsburgh and Seattle and the
pitching injuries and everything we just said. Tampa is missing
Shane McClanahan, Drew Rasmussen and Jeffrey Springs right now. So hey,
the name name value on the last two, if you're
not deep in the weeds of baseball, might not move

(26:26):
the needle. But Springs and Rasmussen were awesome.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
And then McClanahan, one of the best young lefty pitchers
in the game, one of the best young pitchers in
the game. That, yeah, they're gonna they're getting three new
starting pitchers next year. So Seattle Pittsburgh, well, you've got
the arms that are doing it right now, Let's use
them because there's just no guarantee with the pitching injury.

(26:51):
The guarantee is the pitching injuries are gonna come. It's
just you don't know when kind of sad. Don't like that,
hate that.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
Well, you've got all three, go go for it.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
I got a chance.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (27:10):
Why not any Hey, maybe the Raisin Pirates need to
link up. Go get Yondi Diaz for two years. Like
if if you're if you're Pittsburgh and you need to
think of it not as rentals, then.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Go out and get a good ballplayer.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Go get someone that can hit, because you got a
couple arms. Right now, I'm trying to think, is there
anything else from from Jeffrey there that got me excited?

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Not really.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
I think those are the two biggest standout things. Would
love the guard Dogs to get in the mix, but
I'm not gonna hype myself up for that.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
And yeah, I mean.

Speaker 1 (27:46):
We're about a month till the All Star break, so uh,
I started daydreaming and should probably get in the schedules.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
I know, I know that.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
Houston has an easiest, easiest schedule coming up. But you
know a part of that was playing the Giants and
they lost the first game. They won the second game,
and did the Giants just win? I just went to
click they're playing live. Yeah, the Giants just won. So
you're Houston.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
I mean, you know that.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
Those are the teams on the schedule you gotta start beating.
Right now, they're playing Detroit. Next Detroit is San Francisco.
Both these teams have been better than Houston. Now they
do have one White Sox series on the schedule and
one Miami series on the schedule before the break. But
I don't know, you need to start winning some of

(28:39):
these other series because you just dropped one to San
Francisco and I don't know if they get the right offer.
Everything I said about Randy Rose Raina standing in the box,
Alex Bregman standing in the box. So hey, we check
out the comments. Go leave some comments on the YouTube
if you've got either player or teams you're targeting, or

(29:02):
maybe you've got some prospect that you think is gonna
be hot in the streets. Come the deadline, trying to
gather all the info we can because it's still new,
just the new format of the trade deadline, well not
the format of the trade deadline, but with the format
of the playoffs, with this trade deadline that I don't know,
is it gonna change every year or is each year

(29:22):
going to be extra shoppy with all those expanded spots.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
The basketball. I'm hyped.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
We got a big one tonight. Game three. The Celtics dominate.
They take the first two games. Sure, the MAVs game
a little scare in that second one. And I think
the way Simmons phrased it was he said the Celtics
played their greatest hits, horrible shooting night from three, some
bad shot selection, blown lead down the stretch.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
They were hitting all of it.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
The only thing I I'd say is Luca hasn't gotten
any help so far. Really, Kyrie hasn't had like a
moment or even a game, or I guess you'd say
a game or even a moment. And I think I
saw his team anyone not named Luka Doncic shooting three
point shots for the Dallas Mavericks. They're shooting at a
fifteen percent clip so far in the NBA Finals. And

(30:24):
the biggest thing I think is that Chris steps. We
got word he's got a unique knee injury. Okay, sure,
what's that about a guy with a lengthy injury history
injury coming into this series. We don't know if he's
gonna play tonight. We got Wojan shams beef in a

(30:46):
little bit whether he's gonna go and this is the
obvious stuff, but we can state the obvious. If Boston
goes up three to zero, it's officially over. I think
their record at that point is like, what are they
eighty and nineteen on the season or something like that
when you include the playoff games? They're crazy, They're they

(31:09):
have an incredible season. They have a really strong team
with a couple great players. Which one's better? Jason Kidd like,
up three to zero, it's over, it's jover. If Dallas
who's going back home with the best player on the court,

(31:30):
and with Boston losing Chris STAPs, who makes who is
a difference maker for them? He's been a difference maker
in these first two games. So whether Kris STAPs plays
and he's limited, or if Kris STAPs doesn't play and
Dallas wins tonight, the series will feel different and it
will lead to a big Game four. And I'm not
telling you Dallas is gonna win it. And I've mentioned

(31:51):
my biases on this program. I want to see the
Celtics having to go back home on Game five and
defending a two to two series. Our Celtics expert in
the office, Zoe says, there's no way it's happening. He says,

(32:12):
they probably lose tonight. You can't fake desperation. The MAVs
will have that in spades, because, like I said, otherwise,
the season's over. I do think it was labeled eighty
twenty and I think that was the right way to
label it, that it's eighty percent. The MAVs win this game.
Luca plays well, maybe Kyrie goes nuts for a quarter.
PJ Washington or Derek Jones contribute. Maybe Dallas's lobs are

(32:36):
back because Chris STAPs is off the court. A desperate team,
a desperate home game. That's kind of how this works, right.
It's also a chance Boston's just a great team. They're
a bad matchup for Dallas or a good matchup for them,
and they could break them, like Luca's banged up. That

(32:58):
could easily be the story in the second quest. Luca's
not moving well, Celt's got a lead there, Celtics haven't
shot great yet.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
What if they just go nuts from three?

Speaker 1 (33:09):
So as a sports fan, and I do think this
is fair and sorry to all my Celtics' friends. Win tonight, Dallas.
Let's make it to one however it feels. Then Game
four is at least fun, and if the Celts win,
that's probably it. I bet on the Celtics to win
in six. That seem to that was a little bit

(33:31):
of the office consensus. I guess here's my thing, Tatum,
who's come under scrutiny because of Jason Kids' comments and
everyone just everyone's kind of a little bit of a
Tatum hater, which stinks. But I'm like on the bus,
so I don't know what to do about that. I
want to see this Boston team that gets a ton

(33:54):
of shit from the critics, and I guess I'm one
of them. For different reasons. Jalen couldn't he got the
biggest contract ever. Whatever, Tatum being a Celtics guy that
idolizes a Lakers player, that draws some ire Missoula is
just kind of a weird guy. We've all moved past

(34:15):
that because he's coached coached really well this year.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
Remember that was the Celtics story last postseason. It was
like Missoula the head coach. I don't know, I don't
believe in it, rookie head coach. He's gonna blow this.
Not about him.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
I want to see that Celtics team, Like no one's
ever been into Derek White just because like the bald
beer thing surprised everyone at first, and it's like, where'd
you come from, dude, But he's electric, he's awesome. I
want to see those Celtics Game five on their home court,

(34:53):
Like I that's when I can become not a fan
of these Celtics. I'm not gonna be a fan of
any Celtics team, but that's where I could be, like, yes,
like if the MAVs punch back, you got punched in
the mouth your playoff run. Up until this point, you
haven't seen a lot of opposition, and that's not your fault. Like,
only play the team.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
You're a signedist. In the words of the Beautiful Joe's McFly.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
If if my Yankees went on a playoff run and
the other teams all their pitchers were hurt, that's none
of my business. The Arizona Diamondbacks look at the Dodgers
pitchers they faced last year in the playoffs, that's none
of their business. They just went out there and hit
and won the game. I want to see that Celtics group,

(35:40):
like that's nuts on the line. Everyone has them hanging
the banner, and honestly, in a couple hours it could happen.
And why do I need to see their nuts on
the line. They just had a dominant season, a dominant run. God,
if there was like sports fan bank accounts that you
can contribute to something. Give me that game five in

(36:02):
Boston with Tatum's heart on the line, with Brown's heart
on the line. White obviously drew although he's already in.
He's already good with.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
Me, Missoula.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
And then if they do it and Tatum Ball's out
in that game, like I won't talk, I won't talk about.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
It, but I don't know.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
I might just be daydreaming right now because I think
think Celts do get one of the next two.

Speaker 2 (36:31):
We'll see if that's tonight. So I got excited to
watch eight forty.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
Tips something like that, something like that, And I don't Dallas, Luca,
what you just did to Minnesota, like to think they'll
find something.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Maybe they won't.

Speaker 1 (36:49):
I hope you guys found what you were looking for
