Speaker 1 (00:00):
Everybody's like, oh, what if Lebron was in a dunk contest?
Would he win?
Speaker 2 (00:03):
And I always pushed back there, like he had a
hivert and he dunked with power, but there was lack
of creativity, So I'm like, I would easily pick somebody
over him.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
I wish you could have found out. We'll never know.
We'll never know.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
But just as far as the dunk contest stuff, I
just don't know. I think he probably would have got
beat out by some of the guys that I'm about
to mention.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
What's up, everybody, I'm Trey.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Edwards, a sublisher boy Seth Curry.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
And this is greatest of their era. And today we're
discussing the greatest two thousand dunkers.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Here's our brief explanation of.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
What the greatest is or what will be assessed right,
individual stats, championships, influence on the game, cultural impact, and
in this case we're talking about dunkers. You gotta have creativity,
you gotta have wingspan, you got to be able to
dunk endgame and on the main age.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
That's how we determined the greatest of their era.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
And again, this is goat greatest of their era. This
is not the greatest dunker of all time. This is
the era so anywhere from the ninety nine, two thousand
up to two thousand and nine twenty ten, that that
got a little bit of leeway in there. But this
is the dunkers of the two thousands. If you major
market in this era, you're in the discussion.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Ceth, how did we get into this topic sheet?
Speaker 3 (01:24):
This is this is exciting. This is one of my
favorite topics we could come up with.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
This is this is real barbershop talk and growing up
for me, this is really well what made me fall
in love with the game. One of the reasons I
would I would go through those Slam magazines and I
don't know about you, but we don't know about the
Slam magazine posters.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
In the middle of the magazine.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Every time you open up, at least one of the
posters was somebody getting dunked on.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
It was that term.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
It's really what coined the term poster probably, so we
had to we had to chop it up and talk
the greatest dunkers of the two thousands.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, yeah, they were called slam ups. Yeah, but it's interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
You come from a shooter's family, you know what I
mean and like, you know, you fell in love with
the dunk, Like, when was the first time you ever dunked?
Speaker 4 (02:04):
I don't want to add that's embarrassing, but it was
Honestly my senior year in high school. I had like
one or two dunks in practice. My senior year high school,
I was seventeen.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
No hops.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
That's probably why I love this topic so much, because
that's not me. So yeah, I'm the complete opposite. I
started dunking in eighth grade, started with the tennis ball,
and then I used to wear the jump sos. That
was the one thing I thought, like, if you could dunk,
you can go to the NBA. And I was just like,
all right, I'm wearing jumpsons with my clothes. I'm just
just fired up. I'm just thinking that's just gonna help.
But you know, the irony of things. You know, twenty
(02:40):
five years ago, Vince Carter he has one of the
greatest dunk contest performances of all time in our era.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
Do you agree, Oh, that's a fact. I don't think
anybody can argue.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
That's that's really what stamped then brought the dunk contest back,
really stamped him. Probably stamped him as a national worldwide star.
He went on that stage in the Oakland and put
on the show.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
I mean the one dunk that I remember is him
putting his arm in the rim and then just kind
of hanging up there and then kind of jumping off
and not just like paused, like Yo, did that just happen?
Like I can't believe. I mean, you know, we've seen
an East Bab before, people go between your legs and
do those type of things, and you know, even the
windmill and the three sixty windmill, but like that one
where you hung in the rim, I don't even think
(03:24):
that was possible, and it just kind of kicked off
the thing. But you know what I noticed in dunk contest,
Vince Carter never missed his first dunk.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
That's a good point because when you have a dunker,
a special dunker, you watch him in the dunk I
test after the first attempt, you don't really want to
see it two three times over and over, no matter
how good the dunk is when they complete it, if
you don't do it on the first attempt, you getting
the deducted points everybody's and you don't hit the same
But e Vince the special ones. You saw every dunk
(03:57):
he did once and finished it on the first try,
like he knew he could do it. Some of them
were crazy high difficulty, but he made him look easy.
And it's definitely a talent and ass to the flair
when you get the dunk on the first opportunity.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
As we mentioned Vince Carter, there's other dunkers that like
put it on for the two thousands, right, we got
Jason Richardson, we got Nate Robinson, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
Like Nate Robinson.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
It's probably one of the most underrated in my favorite
of the two thousands. So that's the person I'm really
going to bat forward because he won the most dunk
titles in the Slam Dunk Contest it was five to
nine super athletic.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
You got a chance to play against Nate, So what
was that like? You know what I mean, Like did
he ever like were you like amazed to see somebody
shorter than you be that athletic?
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Yeah, and they was a super athlete and he's one
of the few that like you. She showed it in
games and in dunk contests. So like his whole game
was he could shoot the ball, he could do everything,
but even on his shot, he elevated, got up high.
He would attack the rim as a five with five
to nine guard. He would attack the rim and finish
over with bigs trying to dunk on sinners. And I think, yeah,
(05:05):
this two thousands group is it's special, man, because like
the special thing about the two thousands when you're talking
about the greatest dunkers of this era, this is the
first time you've seen a lot of these dunks that
these guys did. So like now in today's era, you
see some of the dunk you're like three sixty women,
it's all right, I mean, it's cool, But back then,
it's like, oh, that's the craziest thing I ever saw.
(05:26):
When you see when you see Vince do some of
those dunks in that dunk contest, every one was the
first time we saw it pretty much, or at least
that good.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
But now, I mean, it's it's so much that goes
into dunking in itself. Right, It's one thing to get
a one hand dunk, two hand dunk, but timing is everything.
Like if you can't palm the ball, you're not gonna
be able to complete certain dunks. If you don't have
good coordination, you're not going to be able to complete
certain dunks. So, like the criteria to even be considered
a great dunker, what do you think has to be,
(05:55):
you know, in that dunker's cat, in a dunker's bag
basically to be able to be a great dunker.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
In my opinion, to be a great dunker, it's not
just about having hops, having a forty ins vert being
a player. I've been around a lot of NBA players,
cause guys, even high school guys who had crazy bounced
but weren't really good game dunkers. You got to be
able to get to it. So you got to have
the footwork, got to have ball in handling, but probably
the main thing, you got to be fearless. You got
(06:21):
to go in there willing to get your head taken
off sometimes. And even in the two thousands, I think
every team had a seven foot center that was in
there protecting the paint. So you got to be willing
to go in there and try to take them on
and try to dunk on them and finish over them.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
So yeah, absolutely, I do think there has to be
I think that's maybe one of the things that isn't
mentioned the most, Like the most is the fearlessness, right,
because that's like, no, you gotta be you gotta have hops,
you gotta be able to pall on the ball. You
gotta be able to do this.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
But like you have to be able to attempt it,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Like that's the first thing, whether you jump over somebody,
you jump over an object, Like, that's fearlessness, you know
what I mean, Because like your trusting height, you're trusting
the timing.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
There's so many other things that goes into it.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
And the creativity you gotta be you got you gotta
be creative.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
The creativity has to be there.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah, I mean, but that's the that's the underrated thing
about dunk contests. Most of the time they have dunk coaches,
you know what I mean, Like they're not technically doing
this by itself. They have professional dunk dunk coach dunk
coaches that help right and just say all right, yo,
you can try this, but you gotta make sure that
you you know, get a lib right and all that stuff.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
So, I mean, I look at it. I look at
it from that situation.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
But my my basic criteria, like you mentioned, it's so
many guys that we both played with that have like
unbelievable hops, but they just can't deliver on the creativity side.
And I think about so many, like you know, like
everybody's like, oh, what if Lebron was in a dunk contest?
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Would he win?
Speaker 2 (07:46):
And I always push back there, like, I mean I
got a chance to see the two thousand and three
dunk contest, and it wasn't that appealing to me, Like
he had a hivert and he dunked with power, but
there was lack of creativity. So I'm like I would
easily pick somebody over him, you know what I mean, Like, oh,
if he was going to enter or not, And like
I never loved that.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I never loved that narrative.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
I wish you could have found out. We'll never know.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
We'll never know.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
I mean, we got that one clip out there where
he's at the Phoenix Suns practice facility and they're dune
with the Miami heat and he was doing a few
things on the show, you know, just kind of it
was putting on the show. I can't take that from him.
But just as far as the dunk contest stuff, I
just don't know. I think he probably would have got
beat out by some of the guys that I'm about
to mention.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
So let's let's let's run through this.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
The key players that I think fit the criteria right,
Vince Carter obviously we talked about early on. Desmond Mason.
I don't know that if that name gets mentioned enough. Yeah,
do you remember Desmond Mason.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Oh yeah, he was a I don't know what, six'
five wing with. Athleticism he would he was attacking a
room and. Transition every every time he went in the,
paint he was trying to dunk. Somebody so he was
he was A, yes he was a real dunker and
HE i think his name got out there by going
to that dunk contest to put on the.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
Show, ABSOLUTELY i think that was how he even kicked things.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
OFF i mean he got a couple of deals off of,
that you, KNOW i mean his his, athleticism but also
his creativity that we talked about, Earlier like that's one
of the rare players that used the dunk contest to
kind of help them in THE.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Nba he can Say Derek Jones junior too in the
future and stuff like. That we think about.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
That Jason, richardson how crazy Was Jason richardson was a
two foot. Dunker, like that's another thing that we have
to break, down the one foot jumper and the two foot. Jumpers,
right you think about the people the free throw line
jumpers and things of that. Nature Which James white was,
crazy by the, way he's A he's another name that
doesn't get the much like the love of like taking
off from the foul line. Crazy But Jason richardson is
(09:50):
one of those people, that like he dunks and he's
still bouncy right after the, dunk after hitting the floor
and still jumping.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Up, yeah he had the.
Speaker 4 (09:59):
Creativity he had the creativity and he was and he
was a real. Bucket like he was a scorer who
with bounce you know What i'm. Saying he could shoot
the bass score from all levels and he. Could he
was a game, dunker put on a show in the
in the dunk, contest and he was doing dunks that
nobody was trying at the time and the stuff you never.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Seen so he had he had a full.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Package, yeah, no his creativity was There another. One Fred.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Jones Now Fred jones And Desmond mason are kind of
like in that in that. MIX i Mean Fred, JONES
i think he lied about his. Hype they had listened
him at six. FOUR i think he had.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
To be like six. Two even helps his case even more.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Stocky six to two had had The jordan deal and
all that other stuff and cool shoes or. Whatever, great
but at the end of the, day that dude put
on and he was another guy that got into the
rotation after dunking like the. PACERS i don't know if
they was gonna playing like, that but he put like
he was so. Athletic you had to play him at the.
Four you played him at the two, Sometimes, yeah he
played him at the three and you thought he was
(11:00):
like six.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Eight but he was another.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
Dude That Justs fred jones that's been masoning you. BROUGHT
up i WAS gonna i was Gonna Bring fred jones
up as a guy who helped his celebrity AND his
nba career by going to the. DUNK contest I Think
jail green is another one of those guys who wasn't.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
A Household Named jerald green got. A, case yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
It wasn't a household name until he went on that
Stage On All Star saturday night and put on.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
The.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Show RIGHT so i think that's an underrated point as
far as being, a dunker how it's HELPING your.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Nba, CAREER absolutely I mean i think a lot, of
players especially young guys now, that's playing need to like look,
at that especially if you're trying to build, your brand
because that's what this stage is about For The all.
Star weekend it's more so creating your brand and being
not with. Your teammates you're the center, of attention so
you either can look bad or you can. Look good
(11:50):
and we've seen some bad dunk contests. As Well, dwight howard,
non traditional not not not, a guard a big man
who was able to win the. Dunkng test he probably
was out of this list the most creative, to me
he as far as, using.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
Props yeah he used, the prop The whole superman thing
in the dunk contest to boost.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
His case he was jumping.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Over cars he always using, a teammate throwing off the back,
or whatever using somebody who was using all. The props
because when you, were big when you, seven foot, six,
ten whatever He was no matter what you do or how,
many hops it don't look as good as a six
foot guy doing. A. Dunk, Right yeah so when you
hit a, CERTAIN threshold i say like six. To sixteen
(12:35):
you can't do so much to look at. Out there
so he did a good job of getting getting his
corporate partners involved in all that on the floor to boost.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
His, case yeah he definitely was a company man.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
All while shack was in the booths hating on him
at the, same time can't forget that the.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Same time and was actually and actually finishing. The job
so what do you think about when players throw the
ball into?
Speaker 1 (12:58):
The rim do you count that as?
Speaker 2 (12:59):
A dunk, i understand, you know you over the rim
and you could throw it in and all, That stuff
but at the end of, the days it's it's just
a cool. Looking layup, to me you got to touch
the rim for it.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
TO count i like.
Speaker 4 (13:10):
It if you're over the rim and you're throwing, it
down whether you grab it rim.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
Or not, to me it's.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
A dunk like all those All Those blake griffin highlights
that you see, On Repeat.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Dunk lake griffin has a lot.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Of, those yeah. He was those are dunks to me.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
Because technically they're tackling him in the air and he's
just shoes in his strength to like continue to.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Finish through so that's that's a. Valid point on.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Top, of that on top, of that, the mellow you
know the signature mellow dunk when he over and he
throws it through, the rim but he don't really.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Grab it, oh yes he.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
Flushes it that's. A dunk yeah, Yeah no But see
mellow made that made it. Look, GREAT yeah i ain't.
Gonna lie.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Mellow made it was actually like like one of the,
smoothest dunks like to a point WHERE if i was
playing on, SMALL rim i probably was crazy flush, like
that you KNOW what.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
I mean me and.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
Step in the backyard used to lower the grim to
eight feet and do the mellow because you know you
y'are dunking too much to start hurting your hands with
a mellow throwing it.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Through mellow y'all y'all aging. Me now the fact that
y'all got a chance to watch your play and. Do
it it didn't, be like, all, right yo, we go,
you know emulate this and.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Do it that's crazy to, think of you KNOW what.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
I mean i put this name on the on the
list and you had some COMMENTS and, i said, save
it save it for.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
The Pot Manu?
Speaker 4 (14:24):
Ginobli manu how how he got brought up as a
two thousand Dunker is it's crazy, to.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Me even though.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
He, does man he a, great finisher you Know what.
I'm saying the craft they Brought the euro over finish
the last on. The riom but he also had some
some he's he's. Sneaked dunking when he dunking, on somebody
it's because the big then they expect you to dunk.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
On HIM so i can't put him in the dunker
category when, it's, like.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Oh he just had he had it in. His bag
he had it in his bag if he.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
WANTED to i just don't think he was so finessed
that he's just like a dunk. And corney I'm a I'm.
A euro i'm gonna do it And then i'm gonna
switch the hand on you and dunk like he had bodies.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
Early on, To me genobi being a dunkers like the
guy who you leave open. All game you're willing to
have him shoot threes. All game he knocks down three,
or four, he's, LIKE oh i shoot. The ball i'm shooting,
the ball but were still not. Guarding you we're not
expecting you to hit hit, threes again so we're not
expecting you to go down the lane and dunk. On
nobody you're gonna you're probably gonna finish at a, high
(15:27):
rate but you're not you're not in the category of.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Elite, DUNKERS yeah, i mean, we'll we'll we'll rank that in.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
A Minute Uh stromoule swift the first, bird man another
big who got ahoun but he dunk with so.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Much power. Power too he's a.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Power dunker Uh, HAKEEM ward i feel kind, of similar
you KNOW what. I mean but he was more of
a one. Hand dunker yea dure he was. Catching, them
yeah that's we're getting into the the category kind of,
live catchers live dunkers who with no talk about.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
No fear he was trying dunk. On everybody.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
That's true that's true.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
That he And Al maril mario start of. My run
you Know what, I'm, saying mario, who's okay only got
one or two a. Power dunker they don't got a
lot of variety in.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
They dunks but.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
It's effective. It's effective it could. Actually swing it could swing.
A gang it could it could it could shift a lot.
Of things so we got, power dunkers we got, lob
catchers we, got creatives and then we got the ones
that are just high.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
Burn right so before you, move on let me give you,
two more two. More NAMES because i was Watching The
dunk contest the. Other day it's just happened to be ON.
MY tv i don't, know why but it WAS, oh
a AND then I Seen rudy Gay And jamrio moon
In The.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Dunk Contest Ja mario, moon, Sneaky Sneak Ja mario moon.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Not sneaky he. Got bounced he. Got BOUNCED but i
don't think his name is. Respected enough when.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
You Talk About, rudy gay he's a he's a better
game duncker. Than me that An all Star game dunk contest.
Type guy he's a he's an. End game he had
obviously a signature one. Hand tomahawk he would give you
the frogt flash. To reverse he's, so big he's his.
Wing span, he's, huge, tall long he, was wingspan and
(17:15):
he's just a match. Up nightmare so he can get
to the rim really at will when bigger guys were,
on him and. He was he's an underrated dunker In the,
grand scheme Especially Young.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Rudy gay don't forget he's one of the GREATEST two
k players of all.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
TIME too i don't know if It's an easter egg
or something, like that but that dude was unstoppable in
that game.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
Because he could shoot it and he was athletic when
he got both. Of those that's the recipe to being
a great video.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Game guy those are.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Long dunkers probably don't cut the craziest mount but they,
so long they, get high and they dunks just.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Look.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Good right he's Like The scottie pippen, type dunker you
Know what, i'm saying where like they can glide and
take off, from far they can kind of, take off
you Know what.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
I'm saying another thing that plays he was part of
being a. Great dunker that, the wingspan they're, they're mesurable
as simple. As that like when you when you got
a long, wing span you got, big hands you can hold.
The ball your dunks just look better first. And foremost,
and also you ain't got a jumpers high to create,
the dunkey Know what. I'm saying you might have for
me with a with a wingspan or a stand in
(18:19):
reach that's not that's not. AS high I gotta i
gotta fly to get up there and do something special
and touch the rim or touch the top of the
square or whatever. It is these guys were long, standing,
reaches wingspan their wind mills look better there between the legs.
Look better and they don't got to jumpers high to
to create these these.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Special dunks Josh smith man, like smooth what can?
Speaker 2 (18:42):
YOU say, i mean if he didn't have to take
jump shots in, the game it was just, about dunks.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
He'd be he'd be one of the greatest players of. All,
TIME man i.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Do flew he turned into a household, name basically you
KNOW what, i mean just as far as flying and
getting To The All star game and doing, those things
like his dunks were just things.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
To, see yeah.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
If he would be a nice small ball five in
today's today's.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Game too, his athleticism his.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
His sides he can play in, the perimeter he can
guard a lot of, different positions and he can take,
the bigs so he can guard on one and he
can take them off the off the dribbling and finish
and dunk on those guys at the rim. As well
so he might be a candidate for in the wrong area.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
As well, you know we would kind of be A
disrespectful we didn't Even put kobe. In there We put kobe.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
In there kobe got Some sneak kobe got some, Sneaky
dunks he got some. Sneaky, ONES yeah i don't. Know,
how yeah you're saying We put kobe got to be.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
In there.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
He might he might be.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
In there kobe might sneak in my top five of
the era because he was when the young cole with
the frow wasn't one of the best end game done
because anyone the, dunk contests.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
He got to be. In there that was watered down.
Speaker 2 (19:53):

guard and.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Going crazy Speaking.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Of, JR smith i mean you talked About The. Frogs
flash he, talked about, you know, just creativity. The fearlessness
that's probably one of the most Fearless dunkers i've ever
seen in. The game and he played for some crazy
coaches that he would try. SOME stuff i would never
try the stuff that, he tried Especially in Denver And.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
New, york yeah he was always at risk of being
a not top ten type guy because he was trying
anything like reverses, in traffic on.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Fast breaks you never know what he was.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
Gonna do he was out there to put on a
show for the crowd and have, some fun so you
gotta give him credit.

he kept it alive for he kept it going.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
For this you gotta give himredit. For that but in game.
He can't. He can't he just.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
His size he wouldn't give. Any opportunity he can't.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Give you he can't give you the same.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
In games but he gave it all on the big
Stage on saturday night we would need it. The most
so that's why he's at the. Top, tier okay That's
what i'll. Give you that he made it to the.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Go Tier but i'm.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
FIGHTING it, I gotta, I gotta i gotta reward. The

Speaker 4 (24:01):
He's special number two and this is the way it.
Gets tough but Number Two. Jail Green, jail green his

Speaker 3 (25:08):
AT all i don't got. No plan i'm just gonna
go out there and DO what.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
I do, next thing, you know he go out there
and put on the best dunk contest show of all
time five dunks you've probably never, seen before didn't had his,
own flare maybe the best dunk yeah dunky tests of.
All time we, come back, It's, like yo you really
didn't have. That plan, HE'S like i certinly didn't KNOW
what i was. GONNA do i made every one of
those ducks up on, THE fly i think he said in,
(25:33):
The interviews but this is behind, the scenes like. Really
talking he's not lying. At all he made those up
as he was sitting down on the bench getting ready to.
Go dunk and on top, of that he got the
EVERY Night Espn sports center three sixties in games dunking,
on PEOPLE the usa dunk all that.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Number one what do you think? About, THAT hey i.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
BELIEVE it I mean i had a funny story one
of my substitute teachers. FIRST time i want, to say
This Is vince carter's second year in, the league third.
Maybe third HE had vhs so he used to like
roll A LITTLE tv vcr combo in and He Had vince,
Carter's HIGHLIGHTS like i think it's like his first one,
(26:15):
hundred dunks like, highlight tapes and it was just like
joints where he was just catching, it boom, wind mill
all that, other STUFF and i was.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
Just just kind, Of, like yo this is.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
The greatest this is the one person that makes me
feel happy to see dunk Outside Of. Michael JORDAN and
i never felt, like that you Know what. I'm SAYING
like i was, Truly, like yo this. Is fun LIKE
and I knew i can't do any dunks, like THIS
but i, want to you KNOW what. I mean so
like that was my main thing as far, as, that
like as Far, as yo this is the, greatest DUNKER
but i want to go through my, Five RIGHT and
(26:46):
I got kobe?
Speaker 1 (26:47):
At five you KNOW what? I mean he asked a?
Good dunks you KNOW what? I, mean yeah it's gonna
take some.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
People up you Rock, with cole but you ain't really
rock With the cold as. A, Dunker, no nah you
seem like you more of a twenty four.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Cob dude, but, YEAH oh. I know i disliked. NUMBER
eight i disliked employee. NUMBER eight i was not do
That whole. La run, YOU know i grew Up a,
bulls FAN so i just hated the whole idea he
wanted to BE like i was. Off that Uh so kobe?
At FIVE then I Have nate robinson. AT four i
(27:23):
cannot leave off the three time.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Dunk champ.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
I'm sorry he gotta get the he gotta get the Edge.
Over kobe kobe fun endgame dunker had some crazy dunks
too Close to michael on me for.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
That One So, nate robinson you get. The Four jason richardson,
at three.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
So he moved him one slot.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
From Me jason richardson, at three got to put with
some respect, on him like.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
Has to like he put on, the show whether it
was That we, believe joints whether it Was, in phoenix wherever,
he played Even The charlie bobcats just. Underrated jerseys by,
the way he. Was special he was special two. Foot
jumper his son is just as athletic and fun. To
watch and In Two, gerald green you.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Said it the stuff he did could have been in the.
Dunk contest i'm not.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
Fighting that like he's, catching lobs he's, you know we
blew the birthday of the candle out. Crazy Creative, like
also this man was dunk in with, nine fingers like nine.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Nine fingers he should be number one on.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
The LOAD but i don't want, people to, you know
start start yelling at me when they, hear this, Because Clearly,
vince carter you Know what. I'm saying if we was
in another if we compared cross eras then we would
have another person to throw in THERE that i ain't
gonna say his name because he's not a part of.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
This ERA but i know somebody that would. Rival That
But vince carter's t O.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
T e, we don't, we don't we don't cross we
stay in the. Same Era So, vince carter we both agree.
ON that i think that was one of the ONE
of i, would say one of the rare choices that
we're going to have in these in, these episodes you
KNOW what, i mean to a point where we actually
agree because you know you've seen. It differently it's like
(29:13):
a layer that was that was, a layup you KNOW what.
I mean you truly would have To Dislike vis carter
must have not gave you an autograph or he didn't,
you know he scored fifty on your team for you
not to pick him as the number, one dunker like
he is the greatest of, this era like, By FAR
like I just i just think, about that like who
(29:35):
would be able to, you know as far.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
As innovation creativity.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Hang time uh you know it called you, half man
half amazing. At once you Know what, I'm, saying like
he do You? Think canada do.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
You think you got the?
Speaker 4 (29:49):
Best dunk you THINK the usa where you Jumped over
buddy is the best dunk in game?
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Dunk, ever.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Man that's a, good, question man, honestly yes because just
it not.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Being planned it was a turnover the, guy's height because
you have to think OF like i think he had
a dribble or two together make one maybe you Know what,
I'm saying and he didn't, Touch them like he didn't,
Touch them like that's the crazy thing, About, it, like
(30:24):
no he's just.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
BUY spang.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
I.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
DON'T know i if that happened today and we didn't
see any of, the dunks that would be.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
VIRAL all i don't even know if it'd be the
greatest dunk of, All TIME like i honestly like and
we've seen IT, on tv like, you know like people
see it now and be like who cares he dunked on,
Some point but, Like no dad was crazy live just
because and it was like probably the greatest thing because
he had on a specific shoot that just like played into.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
The marketing of it like it it, Needn, to like
if you buy, these shoes you're going to Jump Like.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Vince carter it's. SOLD imagination i don't even think. IMAGINATION
exists i think you and your brother, probably have, you
know with your brand as FAR as i think, twenty sixteen,
twenty fifteen where people, was, LIKE oh i wear, THESE
shoes i could shoot, like y'all which that was not,
the case but you could, believe it you KNOW what?
I mean like a shift in that AND don't i
don't know too many people that Have, besides Jordan the
(31:26):
Curries And vince carter that have a gravity to make
you feel like you actually can play like somebody when
you wear.
Speaker 4 (31:32):
Their, shoes yeah that was really a nineties two thousands
type marketing employ, at, work, like.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Yeah stuff you're seeing you? Really, believe like.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Oh yeah do YOU believe i?
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Could be like do you think social media? RUINED that
i think THE access i think the, social media the
access to. The players you gets a certain point where
you get too much access and you feel like you're they're,
not superheroes that. They're not you realize that people just.
Like YOU so i think that social media is definitely play.
The point, but yeah getting Back, to vince like the
(32:05):
two thousand made the two, thousand special that Was Prime
sports center.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Type era so you would turn ON the tv, at
night you were on.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
A YouTube it wasn't no social media where you saw
the dunks in real time like you see dunk now
you're seeing that clip a minute Later. On twitter then
you had to Turn On sports center and Look what vin's,
Do tonight and every felt like every night he was
doing something special on the, fast break.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
Finishing DUNKING and i think they added to his. Legacy, too,
yeah no, for sure now we, got this, you know
born in the. Wrong era but then also like a player,
comp right so out of these five Starting With nate
robinson in THE, current nba who is his player comp
(32:52):
that would you?
Speaker 1 (32:53):
Consider that dunks, Like.
Speaker 2 (32:55):
Him, Mac McClung. Mag mcclub that's a good comp because
he's a three. Time champ, yeah right he's undersize and
maybe the dunk opportunity isn't that often.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
IN games i Like that matt mcclunk.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
For.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Sure, yeah yeah he's a, super athlete not a great not,
a YEAH like, i said not a great game ducker
just because of attributes.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Or whatever but.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
These two are Made For All. Star weekend they're gonna
put on. The, show besides the dunks look good because
they got to jump so high, to finish and they they're.
Trying whatever max, he's fearless Just. Like nate they're willing
to try whatever on. This stage and if it don't,
work out it don't. Work out but they so good
at it it.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
Works out you know those players that seem like they're
cut from a, different cloth like they're playing in the,
wrong era stick around to find out.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
WHO seven i think we're the best dunkers in the.
Wrong era let's close out on the born.
Speaker 3 (34:17):
For somebody born in the. Wrong ERA and i like this.
A lot i was Thinking About.
Speaker 4 (34:21):
Dwight howard he's the perfect Early Young dwight Howard in
orlando is the is the perfect role man for our
for the air w in. Right now you put him
With A Luca, a Trey Young james harden as the roleman.
Speaker 3 (34:40):
With shooters.
Speaker 4 (34:42):
It's perfect he was he above, the room he, catching
everything and when he played, YOUNG here i feel like
he was there was too many, post ups like it
was kind of clunky. Back then you feel like a big,
a sinner who was his who was, that good, that talented.
That athletic you had to get him involved in the
main way with to give them. Post touches but.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Now we kind of.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Realize that that role with an elite playmaker who can
throw it above the defense at the top of the
glass and then go get it is some of the
best officer you. Could have so and they experiment with
it with shooters all around him a. Little Bit, in
orlando they're kind of the first team to put four
shooters around. A center but D The white howard as
(35:28):
a five role man for, elite PLAYMAKER like i, said
today would that's his type.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Of era he was like ten years.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Too early dunkers in the wrong era would Definitely Be
jay rich Because jer rich could shoot. The three he
could shoot, the three you can get, your rack he,
can dunk you Know what. I'M saying i think at
That Point jay rich would easily average twenty five to.
Twenty seven he'd be highly. HIGH usage i. Don't know
(35:57):
he probably would be losing a lot, of games but
he'd be scoring with the best of them and be
in the mix Of The All star game because, he just,
you know just crazy athletic and all that.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Other stuff, so yeah every.
Speaker 3 (36:08):
One of those that can get, up nine ten eleven threes, A, night.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Yeah insane like THAT'S what, i said.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
High volume, FOR sure i think he would make thirty
three to thirty seven percent of his. Threes taken, SO
yeah i Definitely Think jay rich would actually actually. Cooking
