Speaker 6 (03:30):
What's up, everybody, I'm David Grubb and welcome to another
week of Classic Kids here on the MLB bro Show
podcast the Mixtape. The world lost the giant this week
with the passing of the iconic mister Harry Belafonte. If
you're wondering about the connection between the singer, actor, and
activist in the game of baseball, there was no secret
regarding his love for the sport. Born in the Caribbean
nearly a century ago, Harry Belafonte played the game as
(03:52):
a child like many of us, and he remained a
fan throughout his life. He shared a close friendship with
Jackie Robinson worked with Jackie to continue to create shame
across the nation for the betterment of black people and
in turn, all of America. As an unflinching critic of
the powerful, Belafonte was unafraid to take on anyone and
everyone for a just cause. He also understood the power
and freedom of sport, especially for our children. Belafonte encouraged kids,
(04:15):
particularly young black kids, to pick up a bat ball
and glove and fall in love with the game of
baseball the same way he did. After decades of work
promoting the game, Harry Belafont was honored by Major League
Baseball in twenty ten as its Beacon of Hope Award
winner during its Civil Rights weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio. Flanked
by Willie Mays and Billy jen King and presented by
the late great Congressman and activist John Lewis, Belafonsee received
(04:36):
an ovation from the crowd at the Great American Ballpark
the Civil Rights Game. The tradition has started in the
spring training of two thousand and seven, moved to the
regular season in two thousand and nine, and continued for
about six years, and the Beacon Awards were designed to
celebrate the history of black contributions to the sport and
to encourage the next generation to contribute to its success
as well. It was also a reminder of the progress
(04:57):
still needed across the major leagues and our society. It's
an incredible honor to be a part of that legacy
of that game and the people like Harry Belafonte has inspired.
It's also an incredible responsibility. The numbers for black participation
are rising across baseball. There are new stars, but more
can be done. Even at the age of ninety six,
(05:17):
and with all that he accomplished, I'm sure mister Bellafonte
would agree that his work and hours is not yet finished,
so we gladly pick up that baton and continue the race.
I say thank you to Harry Belafonte for his passion,
his talent, his character, and for his sacrifice on behalf
of others. That's my time. I'm David Grubb and this
has been classic hits on the mob Bro Show podcast

Some places looking to erase the history of Black American
baseball heroes who made great contributions to the game from
the record books. The legacy is still being chronicled the
Shadows of Thewaiie House, It's the Boy, Mark Greg, the
Mlbog and I'm going Deep for the mixtape. Beyond forty
two is an exhibit that chronicles the history of the
(06:11):
Negro leagues brought to the departure of Jackie Robinson to
the Brooklyn Dodgers. Around Table Discussion shared the history and
story of this fascinating piece of African Americana and the
stories of baseball greats who led the way for Robinson's
chance to make history. This interesting evening of baseball education
started with the first pitch of sorts from Congressman James
(06:33):
Cliburn who remembers Robinson's impact on him growing up as
a child in South Carolina. ESPN's Clinton Yates set the
table by moderating a discussion featuring Negro League Baseball Hall
of Fame President Bob Kendrick, who stands as one of
the gatekeepers for baseball's legacy in America.
Speaker 8 (06:54):
We just have to continue to stay the path that
we're going to try and do everything we can to
elevate the consciousness and awareness of people about this very
rich piece of not Black history, but American history.
Speaker 7 (07:08):
The Reverend Gray Mackie, great nephew of former Negro League
star catcher Biz Mackie, who was also a manager for
the Newark Eagles and the Baltimore Washington Elike Giants, among
other teams, served as the events creo with personal anecdotes
from his families.
Speaker 9 (07:25):
And so the sacrifices that they made for people like
Jackie Robinson to stand on, people like Larry Dobe, people
like Monte Irvin, all of those gentlemen, just to name
a few team out of Negro leagues and obviously went on,
you know, the Hall of Fame prominence in Major League Baseball.
Speaker 7 (07:43):
Thanks to one of the few brothers on the Baseball
Beat these days, Yates millennial energy and passion for the
game runs deep and cut through, which brought a new
energy from the past to the present.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
At this stage of my life, I've almost made him.
Speaker 3 (08:00):

try to highlight these guys and the game I love

Speaker 10 (09:02):
What's up everybody? This is justin patrully with the Black
Ace Report on the MLB Bro Show podcast mixtape. Here's
where you get the latest on the melanated Mount Marauders
who are shoving you with precision and popping out all
across the big leagues. So let's check the report. The
tough start to the season is finally over for Josiah Gray.
He got his first win of the season on April
twenty fifth against the Mets, where he pitched six innings,
(09:25):
giving up only four hits and banned nine batters. He
now has a two point nine to three er as
he's starting to show that he is the ace that
Washington traded for back in.
Speaker 5 (09:34):
Twenty twenty one.
Speaker 10 (09:36):
TODs Bradley picked up his third win on the season
on April twenty fourth against the defending champion Astros, where
he pitched five innings and allowed three runs. However, even
with the strong start to his career, the Raids decided
to send him back down to the miners to continue
to develop their young arm. More specifically to get him
used to pitching every five days instead of every six,
which is key for the transition from the miners to
(09:57):
the majors. Devin Airbender Williams continues to show why he's
the best reliever in all the majors.
Speaker 5 (10:04):
He's appeared in eight.
Speaker 10 (10:05):
Games, has allowed to combined four hits and has three saves.
He hasn't allowed a run since last season, which includes
a terrific four game stretch during the World Basedball Classic.
Marcus Stroman loves to bounce back to his usual self.
After he allowed five runs against the Dodgers on April
point thirty, He's now two and two with a two
point one to seven ERA and five starts. That's a
(10:26):
Blackist report for this week. This is j P the
rook now back.
Speaker 5 (10:29):
To the mix.
Speaker 11 (10:35):
Byron bucks In, one time All Star sitting fielder for
the Minnesota Twins, have had a chronic history of being
part of the medical team from an injury pass listening
from his thumb growing Mike Grahams both frizz broken finger
from being hit by a pitch straight hamstring. With the
pretty long history of having an injury bug, he has
managed to stress the importance of availability, which is resulting
(10:55):
in the Twins are in first place in the AL
Central Division. He has twenty hits, four home runs, ten
r beyond the season, with the last six game posting
a two ninety two bad average with seven hits and
two home runs. Bucks that hit his fourth home run
the year Tuesday Night at Target Field in the win
over the Yankees.
Speaker 5 (11:11):
His backflip was.
Speaker 11 (11:12):
More like a bat drop out to play as emotional
Bucks in Circle. The basis that kind of game breaking
talent and energy is what Big Bucks brings to a
small market of Minnesota, a truth superstar to sell tickets
and give hope to the fans. He had his first
All Star appearance last season in the twenty seventeen Platinum
Gold Glove and Gold Glove recipient. Having a healthy Bucks
and in rotation, he will give you great moments such
(11:34):
as these. He would get a hat on the ball
when you truly need it while sending that first place
in the division. It's great to know Big Bucks will
give you that play when he steps up to that play.

Speaker 12 (13:48):
A plus Baseball is a game of stats. I'm Sebastian
Ball and I'm the numbers Mann Key. Brian Hayes has
always been a defensive wizard, being a seventy great fielding
prospect and being a consistently elite Major league defender. However,
this season he's building a strong foundation to become a
consistent hitter as well. He has showed an improved offensive output,
(14:09):
ranging from improved base running to much improved quality of contact.
Let's start with what Hayes is already elite at defense.
Last season, he put up eighteen outs above average, which
was good for fourth in baseball and first among all
third basemens, and he has continued that defensive wizardry as
his fourth outs above average as of April twenty fifth
(14:29):
is good enough for second in all of baseball and
once again first among all third basements. He remains an
elite defender, but he has struggled to find consistency with
the bat. But there are many positives to look for.
So far in twenty twenty three, Das has had this.
Speaker 13 (14:44):
K percentage of twenty one point eight percent last year,
such as ten point four percent, which lands him the
ninety seven percent tile and best K percentage. This translates
to an expected weighted on base average of point three
to five to five, which would be an improvement of
point zero five to two from the point three h
three ye had last year. However, his actual weight on
base average this year is still only point two eighty seven,
(15:05):
meaning he has been faced with terrible luck to start
the year. Hayes has managed to land in the top
thirty percent in hard hit percentage, expected sluging percentage, maximum
ex veloscity, average ex velosity, and expected batting average. So
it should not be long until his luck turns and
he could submit himself as one of the premier offensive
and defensive players in this league.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
And that's it.
Speaker 12 (15:26):
Numbers never lie, so until the next episode, this is
Sebastian involve the numbers Man bringing you the metrics on
the MLB Bros.

Speaker 7 (15:52):
What's up, everybody?
Speaker 14 (15:53):
This is Young Krit and this is my weekly coundown
of the biggest plays made by MLB bros over the
past seven days. And number four I brought milestone as
market Schruman recorded his one thousand kriz strikeout against the
Dodgers on Sunday. The senior pro is with nothing but
a class at throughout his career, and it's certainly deserving.
I was flowers for this achievement.
Speaker 5 (16:14):
Sitting in the three.
Speaker 7 (16:14):
Spot, We've got raised rookie TODJ.
Speaker 14 (16:16):
Brawley, who made his debut a few weeks ago and
threw a gym last week against the Reds, going five
and a third inning only line three hits, no runs
and fenning nine. Add number two this week Nat Sudge
just high gray and starting to run in the forum.
Last week he won five innies against the Oils only
a line four hits, one run and pushed it out three. Finally,
(16:37):
number one on Chris count Down. Everyone talks about androids back,
and rightfully so Bob about his glove mob Bro rob
Sha tany of a home run at the top of
the first inning and then turned around and busted the
two runch shot of his own in.
Speaker 5 (16:50):
The bottom half of the inn.
Speaker 9 (16:52):
Man, what can't that guy do?
Speaker 5 (16:53):
That's it until next week.
Speaker 14 (16:56):
I'm Young krit and this has been Chris cond Down

Speaker 5 (17:00):

Speaker 1 (17:05):
It's a gambler's choice, It's a gambler's voice.
Speaker 15 (17:12):
This week.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
The Gambler here with Black Baseball Dads, where we get
never told before stories from the fathers of MLB bros.
Coming up this week is Damian Simeon, father of Texas
Rangers all star infield of Marcus, who broke the record
for homers in a season by a second baseman in
twenty twenty one with forty five. Marcus is a five
(17:37):
to two player who has defied the odds to become
one of the seven point two percent African American diamond miners.
In this show, and not only that, one of the
best players and people in the game.
Speaker 16 (17:50):
Good morning, MLB bro. One particular memory that sticks out
in my head about Marcus Simeon.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
He was a kid.
Speaker 16 (18:01):
I remember peeking into his room at night just to
do my parents check in on him, and he would
be sleep with his baseball glove as his pillow. And
I found that real, real interesting because it continued and
when I saw that, I knew this boy had a
love for the game. I believe this is carried over
(18:24):
to his well, actually all throughout his baseball career from
T ball all the way up to the big leagues.
And he has a strong love for the game that's
never left him since he's been a child. And I
think that's a big part of his success, as he
has a genuine love for the sport.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Understood.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Thanks Damien for that story about your son, Marcus Simeon,
who has finished in the top three in AL MVP
voting twice since twenty nineteen.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
Shame on the.
Speaker 17 (19:02):
Saint Louis Cardinals, No way, no how should they have
sent down rookie sensation Jordan Walker to the minor leagues,
but he was sent to Triple A Memphis on Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (19:16):
For one, he was tremendous to start the season. What
a sensational young player.
Speaker 17 (19:25):
Walker played in twenty games this season, and he had
twenty hits in his first seventy three at Patch with
three doubles, two home runs, eleven rbi.
Speaker 5 (19:36):
Better Yet, Walker made history to start off.
Speaker 17 (19:39):

first twelve games that time of major league record that
stood four hundred and eleven years for a.
Speaker 5 (19:49):
Hit streak to start before the age of twenty one.
I just don't understand it.
Speaker 17 (19:56):
Are they really blaming this kid for their nine and
fifteen start.
Speaker 5 (20:01):
He's the reason that things aren't working out in Saint Louis.
I think not. This is a terrible, terrible mistake. This
kid belongs in the big leagues. He should be in
left field for the Cardinals all season long.
Speaker 17 (20:17):
The Cardinals are a great organization, but they made a
mistake here with Jordan Walker, and it stinks.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
I'm Rob and that's my brand.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
That ball. It was a big week in the big leagues.
Who's a Who's a Believers? Is it foul?
Speaker 4 (22:35):
Or is it fair?
Speaker 3 (22:36):
And now from mlbdbro dot com, here's JR gamble.
Speaker 18 (22:43):
Juan Soto was batting one fifty four with one home run,
two RBI and fifteen strikeouts in his last twelve games
as of April twenty six, and the Padres, of course
a popular pick for the World Series preseason or in
third place in the NLS?
Speaker 5 (23:00):
JR. Is it foul or fair to say that so
far the Padres.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Are losing the Juan Soto trade fair? It's a fair ball.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
The Washington Nationals are a team you can get behind,
with their band of bros becoming the cornerstone of a
new winning culture with front office mastermind Mike Rizzo and
players Mackenzie Gore, cj Abrams, Robert Hassel, James Wood, all
of those prospects he acquired through the trade for Juan Soto.
He's building the future of this Nationals team around Shustop,
(23:35):
Abrams and Gore. A pitcher are already doing work starting
for a NAT's team that is nine and fourteen as
of April twenty seven, but very competitive day in and
day out, so they will continue to reap the benefits
of trading Sodo. Cleveland is still the favorite to win
the AL Central Division. Josh Bell hasn't really heated up yet,
(23:55):
Tristan McKenzie is out, and they are only a couple
of games behind a healthy minute, so the team Bell
has given early glimpses of the punch they didn't have
last season. But with all the firepower over in San Diego,
Sodo Tatis and the list goes on. The Padres a
lot of people's preseason picked for World Series champ. It's
(24:18):
currently twelve and thirteen, a game below five hundreds and
behind the Dodgers and San Francisco, exactly where they've been
the past decade. What's wrong with Sodo? It's just a slump.
He's too great of a hitter to play this poorly.
But it is concerning, and the Padres are yet to
(24:38):
start clicking, which is also very scary.
Speaker 5 (24:51):
Scale shot.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
To stay in the game, you gotta lock it a
lot of hard times, a lot of profit, a lot
of garbage, a lot of homage, a lot of promise,
even when you straight out of Compton.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Last man standing in the back, Charles Johnson, Bros. Bold
pipe dreams, make him a reality.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Throws are freighting Wills Burn calories, both count runners going
