Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Ben and Ashley I almost famous podcast
with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Hey guys, so apparently our producers just or you guys
just love it when I talk about Jonas brothers. I'm
just so casual with the name. Jonas was like a
Jonas Jonas everybody knows. Okay, Well, last night, Jared and
I got to do something fun, so I've been requested
to talk about it. We went to the premiere of
(00:27):
their new movie, A very Jonas Christmas Movie, and it
far exceeded expectations. Jared, wasn't it just the most pleasant
night of all time? I had so much fun last night.
Everything about last night was actually perfect. So we walk
into the theater and the first person, the first two
(00:49):
people we see in the theater are people we know.
So it's already like starting off to like a fun vibe,
being like, oh my gosh, you're here. It was funny
because so many people we didn't know who the heck
was going to be there, up for Susie, but everybody
who we ran into that we knew. They were like,
oh my gosh, of course you're here. We all we
were all expecting you to be here. So I'm just
(01:09):
glad that I'm like expected at Jonas events and I'm
just like so honored Jared that like I get like
to be invited to those things and like to be
able to just be part of that community, and that
fandom is just it never gets old and it's so
much fun every single time. And last night was one
of my favorite Jonas memories truly because I start to finish,
(01:33):
it was just a blast, great energy, grade vibes, great
movie guys. It comes out on November fourteenth on Disney
Plus and Hulu. We are not like you'd think that
they'd be paying us to be for me to be
talking about this movie so much, but I just loved it.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Yeah, it was the movie for me.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
It was the movie for me. Was surprisingly, very funny.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Ifully find that he said surprising because.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
I'm gonna be as honest and objective as possible. So
because you're not objective. No, but that's quite all right
because this movie was clearly made for Jonas Brothers fans.
I mean, it was unapologetically for Jonas fans. But that's
I'm glad they did that because it would have been
far worse if they try to do a Hallmark Christmas
(02:26):
movie starring the Jonas brothers as themselves, but not really
dive into their relationship or be what's the word I'm
looking for, uh, a bigger version of themselves. Like they
lean into the characteristics that people know them as, Like
Joe is the playboy, Kevin's the boring one, and Nick
(02:46):
is like the anal one.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
But he's not supposed to be the boring one.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
He's supposed to be like the one that people like,
the normal one that everybody nicks.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
The relatable one, relatable one, but they put in the movie,
they put they they lean into the idea that he
is quote unquote the boring one because they try to.
But what my point is singing the spotlight's not on,
they literally say in the movie. And this is not
a spoiler that the brothers say, Oh he's a you're
a cardboard cutout.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yeah, because like he doesn't because he doesn't sing right, No,
because and the whole thing is that like he wants
to sing.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
So my point being, I love celebrities who are not
afraid to lean into what people think about them and
make fun of him. And they did that. You know,
they didn't shy it. They were just very self aware
and there was a lot of funny moments in there.
As someone for myself who is aware of the Jonahs'
brothers of course, and I know them pretty well, and
(03:43):
you know, with their personalities quoth they're super talented and
they make really good music, but in terms of who
they are as people and their relationship with as being brothers,
like I know a little bit about it, and so
seeing them kind of interact in a way that heightens that.
And they didn't shy away from it, and they made
fun of themselves and they made fun of their relationship
and it was it was really great to see because
(04:03):
I think anybody who sees celebrities make fun of themselves,
it just makes them more endearing. And after watching the movie,
I find the Jonas brothers even more endearing than I
did before.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
There was this one moment that he turns to me
and goes, should we have a third boy?
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Because they there's this I mean, they're again not a spoiler,
but of course there's flashback scenes of them young, you know,
with their parents at Christmas, and you know, it's it's
it's great to see because it's cool seeing where they
are now, but seeing where they came from and their upbringing.
So but the movie itself very funny, surprise again, surprising them,
(04:41):
saying that because I did not think I was going
to be laughing, and I laughed pretty consistently throughout the
entire movie. Now, listen, it's a Disney plus movie, So like,
don't this is not Schindler's List, you know what I mean?
This is not this is not Shakespeare, but it's not
meant to be, which is another thing that I really
appreciate appreciate about the movie. It's an hour in twenty minutes.
It flies by.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
He loves an hour and twenty minute movie. It's so
refreshing because they're all so long these days.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Yeah, I mean, if this movie is two and a
half hours a bit, what is going on? But they
the movie knows exactly what it is, and I appreciate that,
and I love the movie because of it.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
You know how, a lot of movies, especially comedies, I
feel I think that a perfect example is Elf. It's
a Christmas movie as well. It's like strong, strong, strong,
strong strong. The humor is just like on point, like
for like forty five to an hour, and then the
last half an hour it's just like, oh, I get
serious you know, I was waiting for the moment where
(05:39):
we got serious here and we never did, and so
it just was straight through fun. You never have that offbeat,
and I guess at the end it gets a little
bit more emotional.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Of course there's a resolution, there's you know, character arcs,
but the movie never overstays.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
It's welcome he will, but yeah, it's just like it.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
It.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
I never felt like, all right, let's wrap this thing up.
It was just always like it was a pleasant ride.
I enjoyed it as someone who's obviously AH a surface
level Jonas Brothers fan, and so I think that's a
compliment to the movie because it's not. It's not made
for me, it's made for Ashley. But I enjoyed it too, exactly.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
And we had a friend there who's like a movie
He does movie reviews and he does movie interviews. He
does it with really big celebrities, and I was like,
what are you even doing here? And he was like,
I mean I was invited and it was fun. He's like,
this is not what I typically would talk about, but
I had a good time in there. I also loved Yeah,
(06:41):
so to go back to something that I do want
to talk about, with Jared, you said it was for me,
but would you, and you would say that even if
you're not a Jonas fan, should you watch it? I mean,
did you find that there was too many inside jokes,
too much that you needed to know?
Speaker 4 (06:55):
I mean you have to be a Jonas Brothers fan
to watch the show, or at least like you know
decently know them like I do, or even if you
don't know them as well as I do. I think
you'll still find a lot of enjoyment in this movie.
But if you've never heard of the Jonas Brothers, you're
not gonna like this.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Also not listening to this podcast.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
No.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
My point being is that the movie is called a
very Jonas Christmas and what I appreciate it is the
title is not misleading at all, like this is very
much a Jonas Brothers Christmas movie, but to the film's credit,
like that's exactly what it is. There's no misleading here,
there is no false marketing like this is a Jonas
(07:35):
Brothers Christmas movie.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
A few more things. Jared is the expert reviewer, but
I just really want to emphasize it is so self deprecating.
It is tongue in cheek, It is very self aware
they see. One of my favorite things about it was
that it maybe it seemed like we the fans have
inside jokes with them because all of their stereotypes they
(07:57):
bring to the surface and they lean in on them,
Like there's this one joke that really stuck with me
because I think about it all the time. And my
friends and I my like my Jonas friends and I
have a group chat and like we one time talked
about this. Joe did an ad for botox, not actual botox,
like one of the other brands of a bachelin and
(08:19):
toxin And this was like a year ago, and we
were talking about how he didn't add for botox, and
they make fun of him for doing that. In the movie,
They're like, you say yes to every ad, And I'm like,
this is the kind of humor that is straight up
my alley. It's very millennial based humor. It's also like
there's a lot of parent humor in it. Basically, like
(08:41):
anyone who's in their age group, you know, mid thirties,
you are going to I think anybody in their mid
thirties could enjoy this as well, even if you're not
a Jonahs fan.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Yeah, again, you have to be aware of the Jonahs brothers,
you know.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
But yeah, I think that what's great about it as
well as they lean into the stereotypes of people think
about them, they make fun of themselves.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
They make fun of the stereotypes.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
And I again, I I just I give the Jonas
brothers credit for doing that, because it's very easy, especially
for a list celebrities like themselves, to not want to,
you know, showcase more of the stereotypes of what people
think about them exactly.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
They leaned into.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
They leaned into it so funny. That's what made it
so good. They just they they had fun. They had
a lot of fun. And what was cool as well
seeing their dynamic together because clearly they have great chemistry.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
They're brothers in real life.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Their acting was like pretty good because I think it
wasn't all it was really like not active.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
That's what I mean. They have they have great chemistry.
Like my favorite parts of the movie are the three
of them together. Yeah, you know, they all have separate
storylines and again those all kind of fit into the
overall story. But my favorite moments of the movie, and
I think the most enjoyment and the funniest parts of
the movie are the three of them to get just
(10:00):
kind of making fun of each other, and it's fun
to see.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Two more points that I want to make about the
movie itself. I'm so sorry we're boring you guys to tears.
But I went into it thinking it was gonna be
very like cheesy original like Disney Channel movie like Camp Rock.
Like I thought it was just gonna be like camp
Rock again. And of course camp Rock was really fun
when I was a teenager, but I don't at thirty
(10:38):
seven want to see Camp Rock. I mean, like, I
will watch it with Dawson and it'll be fun and nostalgic,
but like, I want this. I was so surprised that
this was just a fun movie from my age and
they're just so smart about that. And then my second
point was that they they're producers on it, and I
feel like you can really tell. It's almost as if
(10:59):
they like took the writers and they were like, hey, guys,
why don't you like follow us around to shadow us
for a month, to like see what our general chemistry
is as brothers, and like right around what you see.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Yeah, the movie is better than it should be. And
again that's a credit to everybody involved. You know, because
when you see a very Jonas Christmas, you're like, this
is gonna be dumb, and it wasn't. It was not
dumb at all. I didn't think it was dumb, of course,
you know, it's you know there.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
I was like, is this gonna be a movie that
I watched once? I'm like, okay, I'm done. No, I'm like,
I'm excited to watch it all holiday seasons.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
Again, if you're a Jonas Brothers fan, you will absolutely
adore this movie. There is new Christmas music in it
by the Jonas Brothers.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
They're better in the movie even than you if when
you hear the tracks. They're good songs, catchy.
Speaker 4 (11:44):
They're catchy songs, they're Christmas songs. And also again, they
do a great job of leaning into the absurdity of
them just starting to sing original Christmas music in this movie,
Like they break the fourth wall a couple of times
and let the audience in on the joke while they're singing,
and it's great. They just never take themselves too seriously,
(12:06):
and I think, again, credit to them, because not everybody
does that.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Thanks baby. Like I didn't like their roast they did
the roast on Netflix, remember years ago, it's like COVID.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
I didn't see it. You and I.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
You did see it. You were like watching in the background,
and we were like, oh my gosh, I think I
don't even finish it. I we just Jared and I
just don't like roast in general. I didn't lot like
Bears I did. We did not even watch Tom Brady's I.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
Saw clips of it. But yeah, it just goes like
it's just some some are funny, some or not. Again,
I think a roast overstays. It's welcome a lot of times.
If a roast was like forty five minutes and they
had like not even maybe but like, you know, people
very important to that person's life making fun of them,
that's very funny stuff.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
I'm in.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
But it's just like, how long do these roasts have
to be? And with this movie, you know, it's like
an hour twenty minutes of a decent story and a
lot of funny parts in good chemistry between the brothers
that you're invested in, and then it's over and you're like,
you know what, that was fun?
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Yeah, all right, Well, we have a couple of questions
from our producer and we will wrap this up. I'm
so sorry. I didn't realize I was going to drag
out this Jonas episode so long, but huh, it is
a Jonas episode. So she's saying, did we get to
talk to them at the after party? We talked to
Kevin and Danielle and they were just so sweet as always. Yeah,
(13:25):
they're so wonderful. Yeah, it was really And then my second,
the second question here is how would you rank this
in your top Christmas movies? It's something I did tell
Govin I go on the carpet we were asked. It
was kind of a weird question to be asked because
I don't think the reporter realized that I hadn't seen
the movie yet. No, it was like, what would you
(13:46):
pick this or like your favorite Christmas movie?
Speaker 4 (13:50):
They said every other Christmas movie, So you'd have to
either take away every other Christmas movie and keep a
very Jonas Christmas or get rid of a very Jonus
Christmas and then you get to keep every other Christmas movie.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
And I was like, well, I'm going if my favorite
Christmas movie is is Home Alone? And I haven't seen this,
so like I'm obviously going to keep Home Alone. And
of course I'm still going to keep Home alone in
the Holiday.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
They're better movies.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Oh, they're just like absolutely timeless classics. But I will
tell you of the past twenty years because The Holiday
came out almost twenty years ago, nineteen years ago. This
is my favorite and a very since then. I just
loved it so much.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Yeah, there's a lot to love in the movie.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Thank you, I say thank you. I am proud. I
am proud of my Jonas boys.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
And yeah, I think I think a lot of people
are going to enjoy this movie.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
I'm not saying it's going to get critically acclaimed.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
I think people will say their surprised though in reviews.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
But I yeah, I would say that.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
I'm sure a lot of people reviewing this movie, you know,
movie critics, I think a majority of them will say,
you know what it was, you know, it was fun.
I think a lot of them are obviously gonna it's yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
I mean, what are they Are they really going to
take this seriously reviewing a Jonas movie?
Speaker 3 (15:11):
They might, I mean, if you take it seriously, yeah,
of course.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
And even if even if they're taking it seriously, they
should be like, oh, it's cool.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
Much better than anticipated, and it gives some insight into
the brothers relationship too, things that you may not have
known prior, Like we know because Ashley makes me aware
of it, but like things with Kevin and how you
know his storyline goes throughout the movie, if like things
that he wants to present to his brothers, or like
things with Nick about like how Joe and Kevin's relationship
(15:42):
is different than you know Nick and Joan Kevin's relationship.
So like, there is some things in the movie that
are really cool to see, like things that I was
aware of. Again, that's why I was like, Wow, I'm
I'm happy they leaned into it, because not everybody would
do that. But if you're not aware of these things
and you know, it's pretty interesting to be like I
didn't that the brothers had this type of relationship.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
What about the cameos, because there were a lot of them.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
There's a cameo. We won't spoil it, but there's a cameo.
Speaker 4 (16:07):
I mean a big actor, a big actor in the
very first scene in the movie and we.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Were all taken aback and kind of starts you on
the ride.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
Yeah, we saw his name in the opening credit. I didn't,
and then I was like he's I was like, oh,
he makes a cameo in this movie, and then it's
just right off the bat opening scene he's in it,
and you're like, oh, okay, and then you know he's
he's great in it. It's a super funny cameo. And
then there's a cameo later in the movie by a
not as well known actor.
Speaker 3 (16:35):
But some of you guys will know.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
The pilot, the pilot, because I think they're keeping that
one secret too, because.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Yeah, it's a funny cameo.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
He wasn't not the premiere, you'll know.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Who he is and you're like, Oh, I didn't know
he was in this. And then and.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Then the ant, the epic ant from a big fact
Greek wedding. She is an uber driver.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
Yeah, could spoil it so funny, but she's in the movie.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Not that that's a spoiler binding stretch, but it's nice
being like, oh, I didn't know she was in this movie.
Oh I didn't know him that person was in this movie.
So yeah, there was some really good stuff in this
movie for everybody to enjoy.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Another treat from last night was the fact that we
got to go to the Plaza Hotel when it's all
dressed up like humb alone two.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
Because that's where he stays in Homeolong too Full. Yes,
it was a hotel.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
It was so pretty and Disney just went all out.
It was a grand ballroom. I mean like this was
such a pretty beautiful. The food was amazing. It wasn't
the best wedding I've ever been to.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
Yeah, the where they had it in the Plaza hotel,
this big ballroom. It was gorgeous, stunning, and the food
was really good and the drinks were great. Each one
was great themed. It was like a I think each
Jonah's brother had his own drink.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Probably I saw them drinking mostly the espresso martinis at
the pictures of.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
The Yeah, and there were three drinks, so I think
one for Kevin, one for Nake, and warm for Joe.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
So it was cool.
Speaker 4 (17:55):
You know, everything was themed and it was Christmas and
the movie was fun and funny and everybody was in
a good mood and you know.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
The guest list. I mean like it was just so fun.
Everybody was just great energy.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
Well, I think again there is a.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Community, which you always say.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
Yeah, I always say if everybody was a Jonas Brothers fan,
there would be peace on earth because you know, if
you go to a Jonas Brother's concert, or you go
to an event like this, there is just so much
happiness and enthusiasm, which I love. Of course, I love
being a part of it.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Oh, thanks, babe, and I just love having you there
for it. It's so nice that I can do this
still married with kids.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Of course, I would never take your dreams away from you.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Thank you. And finally, Jared is die Hard at Christmas movie.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
I'm in the minority on this one.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
I know.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
I don't think it's I mean, no.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
That's like I think Catch Me If you Can is
like the exact same thing, because Catch Me if you
Can has an ongoing theme of Christmas. But like you
wouldn't consider it a Christmas movie.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
I define a Christmas movie by I only want to
watch it during the holiday season.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
I could watch die Hard in July. Yeah, and enjoy
it just as much as I would in December.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
Yes, because I think I would prefer Catch Me if
you Can in the winter.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
But sure, but you would never Would you watch Home
Alone in May?
Speaker 2 (19:09):
No, I wouldn't allow myself to do that.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Would you watch Catch Me if you Can in May?
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Yeah? I could do that.
Speaker 3 (19:14):
That's the difference for me for my definition of a
Christmas movie.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
I also think that Gremlins is a Christmas movie too,
hence why I had Dawson watch it today.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
Yeah, I haven't seen.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
It really watch it any other time. It is very
Christmas based. The entire setting definitely very Christmas. Is it Halloween?
It's kind of like the nightm before Christmas. It can
go from Halloween to Christmas.
Speaker 3 (19:37):
Yeah, all right, and there's it.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Thanks guys for listening.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
To that, and thank you for letting us.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Thank you for letting me ramble about my my my passion.
You know what, Jared has passions so similar that we
disrespect these things about us. All Right, We love you, guys,
Thank you so much. Until next Ashley, Oh, Jared, I'm
new to this.
