Speaker 1 (00:00):
On today's show, we're gonna tell you why one NBA
team just made the dumbest decision ever. Alright, alright, yo, yeah, yeah,
Yo alive from Billy. It's the number one rated Polly
of Tony Foolsco Show. Yo, Yo Yo always Polly Foolsco.

(00:22):
Here with Tony Fosco and Tony Yo. Huge show today
literally with y in a moment there. Yeah, but we
got controversy all over the sport of basketball, and we're
gonna tell you why one basketball franchise just totally shot
itself in the foot. Stupid and also a bizarre moment

(00:42):
down the ESPN night you'll need to see and hear.
Also maybe it don't actually yeah yeah, probably not honest,
but we'll get to that late anyway. On the subject
of our huge show, we have a huge guest, literally
literally the big story. The team Wolves went ahead and
suspended Rudy Gobert for punching his teammate in the face.

(01:05):
And you know, this is not the way the NBA
is supposed to be, is at you. It was so
much better in the nineties when this type of behavior
was allowed and even encourage, So you know that's why
today we're gonna bring on one of the stars of
that era, a true NBA veteran legend fifteen seasons in

(01:25):
the league, Big Man Olden Polonies, and we're gonna throw
some ideas at him about the NBA MVP Rays. We're
totally gonna blow his mind. Just with exactly anyway, on
the subject of the things that will blow your mind,
here's a message from our newest sponsor, our good friends

(01:45):
at radio Shack. Did you think radio Shack went out
of business? Well, that's on you, moron. Yeah, And now
is a great time to get great deals at radio
Shack because it looks like their parent company is about
to go bankrupt. Yep, go to radio shack dot com
into the promo code Verge of bankruptcy for ninety eight

(02:07):
percent off your order radio Shack. Yeah, another check in
the mail. That's how we going. Now that we got
that business out of the White Tony, it's time to
get into our top story story. All right, the big
story comes out of Minnesota. You know, Usually nobody gives
a about anything that goes on up there. But yeah,

(02:27):
this week, people, you know, focusing on the t Wolves
because our Rudy Gobert got benched for punching his teammate
Anderson after Kyle Anderson told Rudy Gobert to shut the
fuck up, and he called him a pitch in something
else anyway, So what apparently it started? Exactly, it started
when they were egging each other to play harder. And

(02:50):
you know, Tony, if you want to know why the
Wolves are terrible at basketball, well look no further than this. Storially,
you're suspending him for that. People, how are you supposed
to motivate teammates if you can't call them a punch
and punch them in the face. Isn't that so obvious? Tony? Absolutely?
I mean, look at the Golden State Warriors. We all

(03:11):
know the reason why they've won so many titles. Draymond
Green punching players at practice. He knows he has to
do it because three point shooters are so soft and
scrawny that if he doesn't punch them in the face
at least once a week, they won't be tough enough
to face real NBA competition. Great point, Tony, And you know,

(03:32):
can you imagine if back in the nineties, if you
if you're suspended players for punching teammates. Michael Jordan wouldn't
have played in a single game. Yeah, it's every practice
he was punching Steve Carr in the face of the players,
probably joped backs and you're punching them left and right,
and the result six championships. Yep. And on that note,

(03:54):
look at what happened to Jordan when he got to
the Wizards and stopped punching teammates. Not good. Just another
great point that donate, thank you, And there are more
examples also in the nineties on the Orlando Magic, Scott
Skiles wisely tried to punch Shaquille O'Neal at practice. Smart
and the result NBA Finals appearance. Yep, just so smart.

(04:19):
And you know, if I'm as I'm going out there,
I'm telling James Hawden to just go ahead and take
a swing at Diaries Maxie. You know that should get
the Sixes to a conference championship easy, totally, no question.
Now moving to some controversial comments out of the NBA.
DeMarcus Cousins. You know he's not playing right now, but
that hasn't stopped him from having a total impact on

(04:42):
the league. You know, he came off the top row
with absolutely brilliant and frank fantastic shattering take about why
Nicola Yoki shouldn't win three straight MVPs. You know, I
could explain it here, but you know, let's just let
him do the talking here. Go ahead, play that clip.
I'm not okay it being three MVPs in the road

(05:03):
because it then becomes a conversation of is this the
best basketball player to ever touch a basketball? And I
think we can all agree on that and say it's
not not saying he can't be, not saying he doesn't
deserve more down the road, But at this stage in
his career, I'm not okay with saying that he hasn't

(05:25):
won anything. He hasn't been to a final, Like it's
it's a lot of things still in play for that
just so true and profound that what Cousins is saying
totally can't really hand out MVPs until you know the
entire arc of a player's career, you know, makes perfect

(05:48):
sense Nicole doesn't ever win a title. Well, you know,
people are gonna look back at these MVPs to hand
in him and it's gonna look foolish, you know, based
on this, Tony, You know, it really makes total sense
that what you gotta do is you gotta wait fifteen
twenty thirty years minimum play, his career is over, and

(06:08):
then you decide, decide, yeah, yes, they should have won
MVP nut. So let's do that right now and just
go ahead and rectify this for the paper. Yeah, let's
do it. Take thirty thirty years ago, like nineties and oh, Tony,
there you go. Look at one MVP two MVPs wow,
malone wow, zero titles. Now, how foolish does that look?

(06:31):
That we're gonna fix that. We're gonna go ahead, take
those away from alone and give them. Sorry, Michael Jordan
and Shaquille O'Neil. Now, let's go right then. Twenty years ago,
two thousand and three, oh oh oh, once again, Steve
Nash foolish straight MVPs, never won a title. So we'll

(06:52):
just go ahead and give those to Tim Duncan. You
have to look at twenty ten, Tony, Oh, there's a
big one. It is again Derrick Rose never won a
title now even close. So we'll just go ahead and
award that one to Dwight Howard because you all know,
help the Lakers win a title. Jimmy is later, but
you know, as as Boogie as Boogie wisely pointed out,

(07:15):
that counts. All you gotta do is just win a
title at some point. Yep, absolutely and this year and
Beach should win MVP because the Sixes are gonna win
the title. So that one should stand no question that
Tony he's a total lock. And so with the Sixes anyway,
you know, to one of the most awkward and frankly
bizarre moments in all of television history. During a conversation

(07:38):
between stephen A. Smith and Kendrick Perkins on ESPN's First Take,
viewers heard something happening on a mic that sounded like
someone really enjoying himself. Yeah, if you catch our drink.
You know, for all older viewers out there, you know,
you may want to just turn down your volume, you know,

(07:58):
look away to avoid any shocks that make sure you're
not at well turn it down. That is something. Yet
all the rest of you are go ahead and listen
carefully or don't. As we play this clip, Maverick did
not believe they were going to do a damn thing
this postseason. That's why they made the decision that they made.
So we can lament the decision. I was focused on

(08:22):
the reason why the reason why is we think they're
not that good. Well, you could definitely hear what was
going on in that clip, couldn't get Dony. Yeah, yeah,
those were clearly sex noises. Yeah. Well, you know a
lot of people out there, they're saying this is odd

(08:43):
or out of the ordinary, but you know, we gotta
tell you not to us. You know, we've had this
problem our entire careers, haven't we, Tony. You know, people
people don't actually seem to know where the term hot
take exactly. You know, it used to mean something totally
different than I actually originated right here on our show.
You know, we were the first one is to coin

(09:05):
the phrase hot take? Isn't that right, donty yep. And
for those of you who don't know this story, which
is probably nobody, because this made huge headlines back in
the day, and exactly back in twenty ten, I was
on the line with a caller and I did a
take about how I thought the Eagles were guaranteed to
win a Super Bowl behind Kevin Cobb, the quarterback, and

(09:26):
the caller on the line started to moan with such
pleasure just hearing this take, and then more callers kept
calling in and begging me to do the take just
so they could hear it. And you know that's what
they called a hot take. That's where they we had
to stop taking callers after that. It was yeah, that's
why control. But you know, while we're on the subject, Tony,

(09:48):
what's your prediction you want to give it for the
Eagles this year? This year, I've got the Eagles going
seventeen and oh oh the year that what was that sound?
Don't even have a caller on the line. That's weird. Um.
I also have Jalen Hurts winning unanimous m VP of
the League producer Jay you back there, No, just keep going, Donny,

(10:16):
just ki okay. And I also have the Super Bowl
matchup being Eagles Jags, two Eagles head coaches meeting head
the segment. Stop the segment, Yeah, what's going on here?
It sounds what are we doing? Turn off? Who that is?
All right? Just turn it off? That's gross. Yeah, alright, anyway,
look let's just wrap the segment that coming on the

(10:37):
line anyway. Sorry, well, we're just gonna move on from
that and bring them on the full SCO satellite network.
All right. I guess today, as you know, led Virginia
to the final four, went on to play fifteen NBA seasons,
twenty years in basketball. Almost nobody on the planet has

(11:00):
more basketball experience than this may every level of the game.
You know what a resume. I mean, listen to this.
Played for the Sonics, the Clippers, the Pistons, the Kings,
the Sonics again, the Jazz, the Las Vegas Slam, the
Grand Rapids Hoops, the Pennsylvania Valley Dogs, the Gary Steelheads,
then the Clippers again, the Long Beach Jam, the Michigan Mayhem,

(11:24):
and finally the Los Angeles after Shock. He has truly
seen it all. He's a legend to legendary big men,
olden plinies. Welcome to the show. Welcome, thanks for having
me a man. That's a long resome. Yeah, that's a
long career. You good, good, good experience there, good experience game,

(11:45):
you clearly do. And you know we love the game
you came from. You know, you came from a different generation,
the old school player, do you old And you know
they were tougher, they were angrier, they were better, you know,
more violent, and that's why you know, we want to
get your perspective here. All right, Okay, you know, as
he saw in the news, t Wolves play a rudy
go bad. He got suspended because, yeah, he punched his

(12:07):
teammate Kyle Anderson for calling him up and telling him
to shut the up. But you know, you played in
the era of Michael Jordan. Man, you know, Michael Jordan
was out there. He was punching his team every Yeah,
don't you think that that was the key to winning? Um.
That was not the key to winning, of course, But
it happened quite a bit. But we just didn't do

(12:30):
it on the court like these guys are doing that.
We've had them in practice. I was with the Pistons
and Isaiah punched Lamb Beard. They got into a big fight.
So it was common. We just didn't do it on
the on the court. Oh so, how often was this happened?
Was this a daily thing? You know? Coach would come in,
maybe you know, Chuck Daly, whoever it was, and say,
all right, time time for you guys to just start

(12:51):
punching each other in the face. Is that what would happen? No,
I actually broke that fight up. It didn't happen quite
like that. It was more like they got into it.
Isaiah punched Lamb Beard and that was the end of
the fight, he broke his hand, actually on his head once.
So once he did that, that was the end of
the fight. But did you know right then that, hey,
this was going to be a championship team with that

(13:13):
kind of level of dedication. No, we kind of sucked
that year. Did Isaiah Thomas ever try to punch you?
All right? No? Ain't nobody. There was nobody in that
in the league that crazy. Yeah, well, I mean, do
you think that's because you were so tall and you
were too tall they couldn't get to reach your face
exam without a step stool or a pogo stick of something.

(13:35):
It's nobody's that crazy. Well, hold on, was there anybody
you wanted to punch teammate? You know? You wanted to
just smack the ones I wanted to punch. I punched.
Oh please, we'll take flora Is yours. You remember Lamb
Bard with that mask? Of course? Was that you? I
did that? Go and you got the best at a

(13:59):
Lamb Beard. You go tell us, tell us how that
went down. We were playing against the Pistons and it
was I had just got a basket. But as he's
taking a ball out of bounds, he throws an elbow
and I popped him with my right shoulder right in
his face and blood everywhere. It was like like from
the movie from There's Something about Mary. He's a bleeder?

(14:23):
Ye ye man, Wow, you know, I know you never
won an NBA title, but isn't that better than an
NBA yet? Exactly that, Yeah, you beat up Lamber something
everybody wanted to do. I would rather the NBA title
over that. Oh well, yeah, to each his own. Exactly
if you saw Lambia today, would you punch him in

(14:45):
the face again? You know? Just as not mind day. No,
I respect for lamb Beer. I just didn't like his
antics whether we were teammates or opponents, you know. But
as far as like his game, I respected his game. Well,
we respect that he was so tall and that was
such a good part about his game. And as we

(15:06):
mentioned to you, your seven feet tall basketball was meant
to be played by super tall people like he. True,
what are you talking? No, it's playing the NBA. We're
playing the NBA. We've told the exception. Second, hold on
a second, Olden. First of all, I'm seeing here in

(15:29):
your car. What the hell are you driving? What kind
of car can you fit in? Yeah? Like a school
bus or something exactly. I drive whatever car I can
fit in. It must be a greyhound with you long
legs divert from the point there. But look, you know,
aren't you watching NBA these days? You got these shrimps

(15:50):
running up and down the court, so many of them
it looks like a long John Silver's out there. I
don't even think we have any shook guys anymore. Outside
of all there's like it's mostly the average height is
like six to four now six five. But I thought
a guy like you, your seven feet you'd consider that
like a tiny person. Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm I'm I'm

(16:14):
a small forward now in the NBA. But but don't
you think like the average should? You know? Maybe they
should have a hype requirement around six eight like they
do on amusement pok Ye. They do it. It's called
the Philippines Basketball League. Oh are we go? There? We go? Exactly?
Do you have a league? It's six eight and unders?

(16:35):
So oh, I wasn't aware of this, see this man, No,
that's that's actually yeah, play in the Philippine League or
what happened? You were too tall to game? I'm too tall? Oh,
that's that's discrimination against tall. Yeah, exactly. We're on your
side there, Yeah, you have a case there, yeah exactly,
all right, hold on, hold on, yeah, let's get in

(16:57):
talking about tall people. Let's get into the NBA MVP debate,
you know, which is all one tall person above all
the who is your choice for NBA MVP? Olden? My
choice is um Nicola Yoki? Oh you kidding me? Explain
yourself what you're a trader? Trader to Joel Embiat your

(17:19):
seven foot hotel o seven foot up? But go what
you explain your terrible No, he's like six to eleven.
He's six to eleven. Check. Yeah, yeah, okay, I don't
know what to tell you. Man. You ask me who
my choice, my choice, not your choice, my choice. Yeah,
but we're trying to help you when your choice is wrong.

(17:40):
It's Joe. He checks all the boxes. That's why. No,
he doesn't. Let me tell yourself. And you know, all
these people they look at all these stats like points,
assists and rebounds. Come on, old and you, of all
people should know the most important stat is height. Joel
Embiat is seven feet, Yannis Yokis, they're just amazingly six
to eleven. You know, there's a huge difference between six

(18:02):
and eleven and seven. Yeah, I'm just saying you asked
me who do I like? And I gave you who
I like. That's all. And beats and be can win.
How about this? No matter who wins it between Embad
Joker and Jannis, you're not gonna go wrong. Oh this
is just a terrible thing. Yeah, this we're going off

(18:22):
your rails here. You know, I thought you were experienced
in basketball. Yeah. I am experienced in basketball. I just
don't get caught up in the stuff that people do,
like trying to argue who's better and who's that. I
just don't know if you'll caught up in it. Well,
good nose, buddy, because you're about to get kicked out
of it. You're off the show. This shows Dad. This

(18:46):
to your resume. We got something to add for to
the resume for you, it's that you're the show. He's
still hang out. Hey, hell man, I'm adoptive people. Man, Wow, Jay,

(19:07):
is he off the line? Jay, hang up the phone. No,
I gotta say, I'm gonna thank Bill lame the aside
here he had a point absolutely Team Lamber over here.
Yeah anyway, Yeah, all right, let's just not let's let
ruin what was otherwise a terrific show. Of course, we
want to thank our very healthy business sponsors at radio

(19:27):
show radio shop. Oh no, oh no, are you kidding me? Yeah?
What corrections? Corrections? Okay, hurry up, go what first? You said?
Basketball is always meant to be a sport played by
extremely tall people. Yeah, yeah, that's how it's always been. Yeah,

(19:49):
Stephan Curry has won four titles and an MVP. He's
six foot three inches. Height is clearly not necessary. Oh yeah, well,
on the subject of not necessary, you, yeah, what we're
done with you. You're gonna be six foot three inches
deep under the ground. Yeah, yeah, you're done. No more,

(20:13):
We're finished. Second, hurry up, go. What you said a
player shouldn't win a regular season MVP until he's won
a title. Yeah, yeah, it's only fair, absolutely, So what
happens if Joel Embiide wins MVP and not a title
this year? Or are you gonna take it away? The

(20:35):
only thing we're gonna take away is your life. Yeah,
I'm gonna take your breath away when I hold your
head under water. Yeah you finished. Let's get out of here.
You said NBA teammates should be allowed to punch each
other in the face. Yeah, absolutely builds character. Yeah no,

(20:59):
the NBA is technically a workplace. That would be an
OSHA violation. You can't punch a colleague in the face.
Oh yeah, well I'm gonna take your body into the
OSHA and feed it to the shocks. Yeah you know
what OSHA stands for. Oh shut the cup. Yeah, he's done,

(21:23):
he's done with done. Oh, finish your show. Look at this,
he got it booked for next week. Just confirmed super
Bowl hero Eagles legend nick Wow, terrific anyway. In the meantime,
don't forget subscribe on your dope, follow us on tick

(21:44):
doc rate and review of the show, even though we
already know how great it is, of course, but don't
great job as always, Same to you, Polly, another floorless show.
We'll see you Papel next week. I see h
