Speaker 1 (00:02):
Yes, Yes, I am Dramas and this is the Street
Stoic Podcast, bringing your daily dose of timeless stoic philosophy

(00:23):
remix for the hip hop generation. Now, with that in mind,
let's get things started with your daily shot of inspiration.
Now today we are going to be focusing around the
stoic idea of momentomori or remembering that one day you

(00:46):
have to die. And I know that sounds incredibly dark
and depressing, but it is an inevitable truth of life
and it's one that we should use as motivation. And
it's all that stuck out to me was from Meek
Mill and it's a record call stuck in my Ways.
And the line that I pulled from that that I
thought was really fitting to this idea is when Meek says,

(01:06):
I don't got time to be wasting my time. And
to me, when I hear this this line right here,
it's someone who's declaring the value of their time, right
And when you value your time, you become very careful
of how you spend it. You set boundaries, you know,
you draw a line between what is and isn't important,
you know, like you decide what is actually you know,

(01:28):
and moving the needle and getting you closer towards your
goals and your vision for life. And what is something
that is maybe you know, just kind of feeding your
ego in the moment, but does nothing for you in
the long run. Right like, when you are aware of
just how precious and important your time is, your mind
is always trying to optimize, you know, the way that
you spend it. And this leads me to a quote

(01:50):
from Marcus Aurelius, one of the Stoics, and he says,
don't behave as if you are destined to live forever.
The truth is as dark and scary as this sounds.
As you are listening to this podcast, you are inching
closer and closer to death. And you can either be

(02:11):
depressed by that or you can use it as a
wake up call to take charge of your life and
do your best to not waste any of these precious
moments that we are are given. You know, and you
got to think about, you know, your day right as
a whole. I think that's kind of where it starts,
and how you spend your time, you know, and the

(02:32):
things that you do during this time and the way
that you spend your your day, you know, it should
reflect the fact that you are very well aware of
you know, time is fleeting and your moments on this
earth are are going by very quickly. And to me,
I relate this in so many different ways in my life,
but I think more recently when it comes to my

(02:52):
career and more so my creative work, because I feel
like career just has like this dirty connotation of money.
But for me, I have so many different ideas that
I want to bring to life, so many different things
that I enjoy doing. And if I'm not focused on
how I spend my day and paying attention to where
the hours go, like, I'm not able to get any

(03:13):
of the things that I want to get done, you know.
And for me, I've adapted this, uh you know, this
methodology and this practice of time blocking. You know, where
I look at my entire day, hour by hour, and
I block out even the most minimal tasks, even if
it's just you know, you know, sending an email that's
I put it in my calendar. I know at three

(03:34):
PM I'm going to go and send that email. I
know at three thirty I'm gonna go send this email.
Right my day is accounted for, so I can get
the most out of my time. So I'm making sure
that I am making the most of my day, and
I'm prioritizing the things that get me closer and closer
to what I hope to achieve and what I hope
to produce as a as a creative, you know. And
this is how I'm able to do two podcasts and

(03:56):
doing a TV show, and how I wrote a book,
and how I run a studio a lifestyle brand, amongst
a handful of other things that I haven't even announced yet,
right like, the only way that I'm able to do
all of this, the only way that I'm able to
on a daily basis do things that I love doing
and bring, you know, so many different ideas to life.
It's because I'm very conscious of how I spend my time,

(04:19):
even down to the day, down to the hour, all
of it. I try to be Accountablefore, I try to
be very intentional with it, and knowing that life goes
by incredibly fast, and if we are not disciplined with
how we spend our time, we will end up wasting
so much of it as a result. Now we have

(04:39):
heard the words of Meek Mill, we have heard from
Marcus Aurelius, you know, you've heard from from myself about
how I'm incredibly aware of this stoic idea of a
mental moor or the fact that one day, you know,
we will be gone, you know, and in each passing
moment we're getting closer and closer to that. Right, So
we've talked about how all of these people's quotes and
my own story, how they relate to that concept. Now

(05:01):
let's talk about how you can make it your mantra
for today. But first let's take a quick break and
then we'll be read back. All right, So we've heard
the words of meek Mill, We've talked about Marcus Aurelius,
one of the stoics. You've heard my own, you know,

(05:24):
awareness of the stoic idea of a mental moor, the
idea that you know, we're all a man getting closer
and closer to our our last days on this earth
with each passing moment. Now, let's talk about how you
can make it your mantra for today. Now, first and
for almost I want to make it clear that you know,
of course, we are not machines, right, we are human
beings and we need to have balance in our lives.

(05:44):
I'm not telling you to work yourself to the bone
to make yourself sick because you're not taking the proper
time to rest. You know, or or you know that
you should be losing, you know, all the people around
you that are important to you because you want to
be chasing some sort of dream or goal. I'm not
saying that, you know, I think quite the opposite. Of course,
life is all about balance. But with that in mind,
you do have to learn how to optimize your limited

(06:07):
time here on this earth. Right like, you cannot say
that you want something if you aren't delegating the proper
time towards it. And that's something you know. It doesn't
just have to be a goal, of course, it could be.
It could be something career related and achievement you want
to be able to do, right, but it also could
be just maintaining a relationship with a loved one, right like,
that takes intention, That takes planning. You know, you want

(06:28):
to be there at your kids soccer game. You want
to be there, you know, for someone that you care about,
you know, an important moment in their life. You know
you have to carve out the time in your schedule
to make that happen. All of that requires intention and awareness,
you know, And that's what I'm talking about today. Like again,
whatever it is that you are doing, you have to
be intentional with your time, because of course we all

(06:50):
have those days, you know, we're like, man, I have
no idea where the time went. Today, just flew by.
And I think when you slow down and you map
out your days and are present to how you spend
your time time, like I was talking about with the
time blocking, you begin to have less and less those
days where you feel like time just got away from human.
And I think that that's the goal here. We want
to be able to be accountable for the time that

(07:12):
we spend each and every day, because of course it
is limited. Our time here on this earth is limited,
and we must make the most of it. Now to
recap all we've talked about, you know, Meek Mill making
a declaration that his time is valuable, right, he says,
I don't got time to be wasting my time. And
you have to look at the way that you spend
your minutes, your hours, your days this same exact way.

(07:33):
Your time is a valuable commodity because it is quickly
fleeting and onto the stoics. Marcus Aurelius. You know, don't
behave as if you're destined to live forever. You cannot
put off things for tomorrow because tomorrow is not promised. Again,
don't work yourself to the bone, but within reason. Try
not to leave things for tomorrow. Try not to leave
things unsaid. And for me, it's all about creating discipline

(07:58):
and maintaining my jeal, my calendar, and being on top
of each and every minute, every hour, every day, and
trying to be on top of how I spend it,
you know, time blocking all the things that I want
to do. And for me, it's changed my life and
it's allowed me to be so much more productive because
I'm aware of the way that I'm spending each moment
in my day and allows me to optimize the limited

(08:20):
time that I have here. So all of that in
mind again, remember one day you will be gone. Your
time right now is fleeting. You need to make the
most of it now. With that in mind, thank you
so much for checking out the Street Stoke podcasts. Do
your best to apply these concepts that we discussed today
into your everyday life, and I will catch you next time.
