VC Show. It's the VC Show. It's the VC Show.
It's the v CZ two. Let's welcome to the VC Show.
I'm your host, VC. It's been a while. I hope
you guys have had a great summer. You've enjoyed the
Olympics that has come and gone. And I tell you what,
(00:48):
it was beyond entertaining. And I don't mean obviously you
guys think when I say this just basketball. The Olympics
in general was fantastic. It was engaging. I made sure
wherever I was, I was either watching the live feed
or late at night. I made sure I watched all
(01:09):
the games and the games that I missed. I mean
shout out to the Olympics for making sure that we
had all access and all opportunities to catch up on
all sports. I mean, I find myself I found myself
watching I mean archery I found. I mean, you name it.
I'm gonna tell you I enjoy table tennis, I mean handball.
(01:31):
I was watching water polo like I mean, obviously I
was cheering for the USA, but there was some great games.
There was some some great stuff going on. Man, It's
it's kind of I know football season is pretty much here,
but it was a great segue leading us into football
season that's upon us. So yeah, man, I hope you
(01:51):
guys can kind of take a breather from it, digest
what we saw. We're gonna get into a lot of
the things. So yeah, kick your feet up. The VC
Show starts. Now, hold on, God, what they wanted been seged.
You run supreme. Good people, good people, man. I tell
(02:13):
you I mentioned about the Olympics every four years. Every
time the Olympic comes around, I always take a moment
to think back on my experience, very long time ago
(02:34):
in two thousand. But it was an unbelievable experience, not
just playing in the game, but I always get chills,
and you know, I got the chills now just thinking
about the opening ceremonies, walking into the Olympic stadium, seeing
the other countries, obviously everyone showing respect to you with
(02:56):
some of the greatest athletes in the world, not just
with your country, and just going through the opportunity like, wow,
I am here. This is when I watched as a
young kid, and I got that opportunity to be a
part of it. And for those of you that don't know,
originally I wasn't selected for the team on the for
(03:18):
the team, I was a part of the last selection
or opportunity Ray Allen. Shout out to Ray Allen, my
guy got the bid or got the nod and yeah,
and I wasn't on the team. And maybe a week
or two, I'm not sure. Now we're talking a long
(03:39):
time ago. I get a phone call because we're still
in season while this was going on, and it was funny.
I could tell this story. It's funny. The night of
the selection between Ray and I, we were playing the
Milwaukee Bucks, and you know, I did say, if you
look at the interview, I did say, it's just another game.
(04:00):
It was another game. And because I didn't want to
get caught up into trying to go and do it
too much and not win the game and do but yeah,
I wanted to show that I was very capable, just
like Ray did, and I had a pretty good night.
I had forty eight that night, and they asked me,
was that to show that I deserved to be on
the team. I mean, yeah, I mean I can tell
(04:21):
you just twenty years late, twenty five years later, Yeah,
I mean you want to make sure you let them know.
It was tough to to not to not to get
that close and not get there. But a couple of
weeks later I get the call asking to join the
team because Tom google YadA shout out, Tom Googliata had
(04:43):
a back injury I guess during this doing within those
couple of weeks and couldn't make the Olympics. And I
got the nod, and I just remember being so happy,
unbelievable opportunity. And I said, once I I get over
there or get with the team, I'm gonna do what
(05:04):
I had to do and let them know that they
made the right decision and that should have been their
decision in the beginning. Funny nugget to that is that
I look at the picture that we that you see
if you look up the two thousand team, put all
those guys, shout out to KG Ray, everybody, Alan Houston, Shariff,
(05:33):
Gary Payton, Zoe, Tim Hardaway Kid and Baker Tonya mcdce.
Shout out to that team. But when I look at
the picture, because I was a late ad, I had
to take my picture by myself, and obviously they photo
(05:53):
shot me in and to the original to the initial pictures,
I think I'm in another one that we took later on,
but like the initial picture, you see I'm photoshopped in.
And it was a good laugh. But it was kind
of motivation to really just go out there and do
what I had to do and just give him a show.
And as we were going playing into different games, I
(06:16):
just tried to be athletic, and I mean we're playing
with all stars, and it's tough, like when you're playing
with a team like this Ray who gets buckets and
you know Alan Houston was a bucket and obviously KG
and all that. You know, you develop your role as
you go through, and I just wanted to be an
athlete and get a bucket when needed and just play
(06:39):
fast when you're playing with Jay Kid, as you know,
a couple of years later, I ended up playing in
Jersey with him. You play fast, get you the rock.
And I was just running and getting dunks and my
jump shot was working, and I was getting to everything
I wanted, and I became a go to guy, leading scorer,
and I mean, we know, we know what happened against
(07:04):
France and in just a group play, but play ended
up playing France again in the middle in the gold
medal game, and it was a cool show. It was cool,
and I didn't want to let you know the team down.
Once I established myself as a go to guy, I
(07:25):
got the opportunity to hit a game winning shot against Lithuania,
which was obviously huge for my career and confidence playing
with those guys and coach drawing up a play and
trusting in me to make a shot, and I got
to my spot and I just remember, I think it
was a baseline jump shot if I'm not mistaken, just
lifting up and shooting to a confidence and seeing that
(07:45):
thing going in. And I was like, man, going from
not being selected to this opportunity to finally getting to
the gold medal game and sitting standing on the stand
and receiving that medal, and I remember I got the
flag and I had it wrapped in front of me
and on my chest, and it's just an unbelievable experience. Man,
(08:06):
to go through that and continue to watch the Olympics,
you know, for twenty plus years to get to twenty
twenty one. Now I'm on the other side getting a
chance to call the games in Tokyo, and man, it
(08:27):
was just a crazy, crazy experience being on the other
side calling games and then here we are. So it
was just great to watch. It was great to see
the gold medal, gold medal games so competitive. You know what,
I'm a wait on that. I'ma wait on that. And
the reason I want to wait on that because I
want to give and show some love to some of
the other sports, like what Team USA did for in track,
(08:54):
the men and women. It was fantastic. As most of
you know. We got one hundred and twenty six total goals.
Excuse me, one hundred and twenty six total medals, forty goals.
We tied with China with forty. We did our thing. Obviously,
when we look at the stats or look at the
(09:15):
metal count, we're looking at goals and how many we
can rack up. There's a lot of parody. Things are changing.
There's a lot of athletes, there's a lot of international players, athletes,
I should say, giving the opportunity to either come to
go to college or play professional ball in the States,
(09:38):
and they've adapted and more so the talent and all
of these sports, whether it's basketball, we're going to continue
to see that, swimming, whatever. These guys compete against the
best often, so there's the fear factor is different now
because there's so many international players playing. And I'm gonna say,
(10:01):
in the NBA, I mean, we saw the number I
think it was sixty players, sixty one in the league
now that were playing in the game. So it's a challenge.
Now it's not gonna be a kwalker. It's not gonna
be easy. And I could recall in two thousand, obviously
we were two Olympics removed from Dream Team, and it
(10:21):
was a challenge and everybody was like, oh man, maybe
they're not good enough. Well also because like there's more
players at that time in the league and just they're
catching up, they're getting better, and here we are twenty
five years so almost twenty five years later the amount
of players that's in the league. So the Olympics, I
think for you people that are watching with kids, think
(10:45):
about what you know, let's say two thousand or us
in ninety two, like the Dream like, man, this was great.
I want to be in the Olympics. I guarantee a
lot of your kids after watching the Olympics and whatever
sport it may be, he felt like they can accomplish
that goal to be in the Olympics because of how
(11:05):
great it was. I mean, the young lady swimmer from
Canada was fantastic. She dominated. She I think she was seventeen.
Quincy Wilson sixteen years old, man making history winning gold.
I mean, there was a couple of teenagers, teenagers come
(11:27):
on now who are going back to high school, if
not now at school hasn't started now, starting soon, and
they're coming home with medals or the experience of an Olympian. Like,
it's just fantastic and it kind of gives I know,
my young kids were motivated. Watched every night. They watched
every night in cheer cheer cheer for obviously USA and
(11:52):
just for the sport in general. So, like I said,
forty goals tied with China. Here's another awesome stat of
the forty goals were by women. That sixty five percent.
I'm sure you guys have seen that stat floating around,
but I wanted to throw that out there because I
thought that was amazing for what we saw. Like I said,
(12:14):
just we always mistinate the Olympics, and maybe just we
always talked dominating from the men. But the women showed
up and showed out and did the things, so shout
out to them. Sixty nine of the one hundred and
twenty six medals were by women. So I mean, with
the the boom in the w NBA, the superstars and
(12:42):
the young stars coming in women's sports in general, with
what women's the women have, what they did in track
and in other sports, like, shout out to the women
for holding it down for us obviously blowing the competition
(13:02):
away in total goals and more than half of the
gold medals were by the young ladies, so that was great.
I also want to say, you know, you know, twenty
twenty eight LA. I know everybody's like, ooh, I'm gonna
try to show up and get there. Man. The traffic
that's gonna be in LA for the Olympics is gonna
(13:23):
be insane. Oh, I don't know. I don't know. If
I get if I get the opportunity to work it, man,
I'll be there. But oh, it's gonna be hard to
move around out there. In LA. But with that being said,
five sports being added flag football, baseball, and softball, lacrosse
and for those who are not familiar with these sports,
(13:44):
cricket and squash. So five new sports added to the
Olympics in twenty twenty eight. So that should be interesting
and entertaining. Flag football, I think, with you know, we
should do well in my opinion the US. That is
(14:05):
baseball and softball, Oh, I don't know, lacrosse we got
a shot. Cricket and squash, I don't know. I don't know,
So we got stay tuned on that. But moving along,
moving along, shout out to all the athletes, Olympians. I
(14:26):
mean you qualified for the Olympics. You're amongst the elite group.
I mean, I know there was some disqualifications, some crazy falls.
Watching some of the guys get injured while they're running,
pulling up for hamstrings is just we hope they get better.
But shout out to you regardless, because you're an Olympian,
(14:49):
you're an elite group. You accomplished something that we all
hope and dreamed of doing, is being an Olympian and
being a part of the Olympics. And you did that,
so proud of it. Now it's getting to the good
stuff watching the drama unfold for Team USA men and women,
(15:11):
but with the men obviously starting off with Kawhi leaving
and the conversation on who should be there, who not,
Who should who, who who shouldn't or why you know
Jalen Brown didn't and Derek White. Well, we got to
also remember Derek White was selected as an alternate during
(15:32):
the playoffs. He was already up for that opportunity. If
I guess they knew if Kawhi couldn't or wouldn't finish,
they already had a guy in place, so it was
already understood it was going to be Derek White. In
my opinion, he did not disappoint. I think he did
(15:53):
his He did what they needed him to do. They
wanted him to come in there, defend, shoot open threes
or shoot threes, and that's what they needed. They just
needed another guy to just be ready to shoot and
just be a role player, and I think he plays
that role extremely well. He earned his contract a nice extension.
(16:15):
He played fantastic. He's a champion and there's a huge
part of their success. Shout out to Jayalen Brown also
who won the MVP I think he deserved it. He
played like it. He held that team down throughout the season.
But I'm gonna say this, I think Jaylen Brown gets
(16:36):
the nod. If Kevin Durant couldn't finish or couldn't play
and he wasn't healthy, then they needed another score. But
when you have Steph Lebron and KD, you don't need
another guy who wants the ball. And yes, I know
(16:56):
some of you saying Jalen can whatever, and I agree
he can play off the ball because he plays off
the ball when Jason Tatum's rolling, But he's he's he's
a go getter man. He's a guy that you want
to put the ball in his hands. And I think
he will definitely be a guy up for twenty twenty eight.
I just think they didn't That's not what they needed.
I know that's what we wanted, and he wanted it
for sure, you could tell, and I love it like
(17:16):
he wanted to be a part of this and represent
his country. That's not what they needed at that time.
Like I said, I felt like if KD wasn't available
and they needed to go get somebody, that's when they
needed to go to get another score. Jenn Brown would
have been that guy my opinion, but shout out to
(17:38):
Drew Holliday. I just think everybody played played their role.
You know, Halliburton, he played his role. It was obviously
he saw his tweet or I think it was his
tweet or ig wanted to like social about it. I mean,
he got He has a gold medal, man, and he
has an under believable experience, and he earned his way
(17:59):
because of how he in the World Cup leading up
to it. The Jason Tatum thing. Man, it's if I'm
in that position as a player after what I accomplished Champion,
I understand the frustration. And as a coach, when you're
(18:21):
coaching an All Star team and you have that many players,
it's tough. It's tough to find the minutes in rotation.
Not like an All Star game. An All Star game
is easy, easier in my opinion, because you're gonna kind
of it's ha ha ha, have fun. Everybody has their
alloted minutes and near the end, whoever's playing well, trying
(18:43):
to go for MVP or whatever the case may be,
then you play those guys. But when you're talking about
a travel squad like this, if you would an All
Star team, an Olympic team like that, somebody's not gonna
be happy. And it's just crazy how I'm folded because
you have Kevin Durant, you have Lebron and it was
(19:07):
hard to find minutes for j T. And when he played,
yeah he played, I mean when he played, he played.
I know it is in his mind he wasn't happy.
So it's hard for him to to lock in and
be the Jason Tatum that we know he can be.
But the future is right for him, We'll see. It's
(19:32):
just it's just kind of it's it's it's tough, man.
I'm gonna say this. I'm glad that the US was
able to get the job done because if they don't,
the drama that would unfold if they did not win
the gold medal. With all of that, imagine what's being said.
(19:59):
M And I want to enlighten guys before I move
any further. I want to go jump ahead real quick
with the twenty twenty eight because it kind of leads
into this. I saw on social media about the potential
players that could be picked for Law eight. Those names
(20:26):
were all well and good, but when we get down
to it, we watched the last two games and what
got us the w We had guys who could shoot
the ball to spread the floor for guys like Lebron
to get downhill. Obviously, when transition Lebron can get downhill.
(20:47):
You have Kevin Durant. There's not many guys who can
do what Kevin Durant can do, but to have shooters
man more than anything. You can have all these guys
who can get to get to the basket. Whatever. Fever
play is totally different than the NBA. It's more physical.
(21:08):
They don't call all the files. You got to go
get a bucket. And we have guys in the NBA
in the future that can get a bucket. But when
they're not calling files and we're not making the mid
range and getting to the bucket, you need guys who
are snipers who can knock down threes to open up
the floor. I mean, we saw we could. We saw
what Steph was doing. He was opening up the floor
(21:30):
and as he was getting going when they needed a bucket, well,
guess what Now, if you're putting a couple of guys
on stuff because he's rolling ky, you get the ball
to Kevin Durant. Now he he gets one on one
can get get to his spot and do what he
wants to do, or you get the ball on another
swing swing and guess who's next Lebron James downhill. You
can't stop that. So we got the guys that can
get that high flyers, super athletic, some of them have
(21:54):
a great mid range game and everything, but we need shooters.
That's that's to me, is what's imperative for twenty twenty
eight because we're seeing what France is gonna look like
in the future. They're not going anywhere. Serbery is not
going anywhere. You know, we don't. We don't the guys
the teams that were competitive. Germany is not going to
(22:15):
They have all young talent and it's gonna be those
same guys which we just saw in twenty twenty four.
We're gonna see those guys in twenty twenty eight. The
defense is still gonna be the same. Plus they're bringing
a new young talent as well. So I just think
we have to make sure we have shooters out there
to let our guys who are super athletic with the
ability to guy gets the ability to get downhill to
(22:36):
do that, because they're gonna pack that pain up Man,
if we can't shoot the ball, they're gonna they're gonna
pack the painnut. You got to score over me. When
you guys have guys that can knock down shots, it
opens up everything. Steph Curry, was that, Drew Holliday timely threes,
Derek White threes, hit shots, I mean Bron hit shots
(22:56):
as well. I mean hit threes and whatnot as well.
But like when you have those guys, especially your role players, man,
they're gonna defend and go down there and shoot. All okay,
you're gonna put all the attention on K D, Steph Bron. Likewise,
MB even a D like I should say MB was
(23:17):
hitting Timely three. But that was weird, by the way,
the whole MB thing. I understand the frustration. I saw
a comment from a player I can't remember who it was,
but the comment went, Okay, if m B chose to
(23:37):
play for friends, now what so when Rudy Gobert doesn't play,
I guess and it's MB, which is insane to even
say this, but m B Wimby and forty A. Cordier
and all the other talent they have, Like it's just
(24:01):
I don't know, that's that's I mean, that's just a
bit much. But you know whatever, shout out to NB
though he got it done. I'd be interested to see
what he chooses to do in the future hearing what
he said. So I don't know, but I think the
future is very bright. I'm nervous what twenty twenty eight
(24:24):
is gonna look like because of Serbia, Germany, France, and
we're gonna have, I mean, with other young talent. Who
else am I missing? Okay, Canada, South Sudan is going
to grow. I mean, you already see what Luel Dang
has done for this country, for this squad, and now
(24:47):
the country is gonna build the facilities to now encourage
I mean, that's like I said, this is what the
Olympics is about. Young kids watching, being inspired by obviously
players from their country and the success great story I
did the twenty one games Nigeria, I mean, playing the
(25:11):
way they played, so it's gonna be it's gonna be
a good twenty twenty eight. So I hope we put
the best squad out there. But that guy, Steph Steph
Curry was was fantastic in the last two games, and
it just says a lot about about him. He didn't
play great. And like I said, when you played for
when you played on a team like this with a
(25:33):
bunch of superstars, you're not used to you know, Stephie
is used to playing playing fast, a lot of ball,
moving whateverever. So that wasn't the case all the time.
So he had to figure it out. But he's Steph Curry.
And the one thing about Team USA, when a guy
was rolling, they rode that coattail. And that's why he
(25:53):
had a lot of guys, different guys having big nights.
And it wasn't like selfish basketball. They understood they needed
to win. They all superstars on their team, and if
they were rolling that night, they played through that guy
and they understood that they needed shots. Steph got going
(26:13):
and the rest was history. Shout out to Lebron winning
the MVP. I thought he was steady throughout the entire Olympics.
I mean, you could tell he was a man on
the mission when they needed a bucket earlier, and not
even just group play, just in their first couple of IMA,
(26:37):
in the first couple of games kind of getting getting going,
they needed a bucket. He got it. He set the
tone for how they wanted to play and needed to play.
And then there's that guy, easy Money Sniper aka Kevin Durant.
Shout out to him, all time leading scorer in USA
(26:57):
B history, passing the great so Leslie. I think he's
top ten all time in Olympic history in scoring. Did
you know power Gasol Oscar Schmidt if you guys know
who that is. Andrew Gazes is another guy up there.
(27:19):
Did you guys know that Patty Mills. Patty Mills is
up there. He's like top five all time in scoring.
Patty Mills and Fever is a bucket. Shout out to
Patty Mills. Shout out to him. Now. I mentioned about
USA team USA in twenty twenty eight, what it's gonna
look like, and I know as they should. Kad Steph
(27:44):
as well as Lebron left the door open for possible
for return in twenty twenty eight. I don't know, but
I think I don't know how I feel about I
think this is a question we should revisit in maybe
two years, and just to see where they are and
(28:09):
see what we have. I think it's gonna be need
In two years is when I think Grant Hill and
the USA B will start looking at needs. I know
they're gonna play in World Cups and qualifiers and all
this throughout the time, so they'll see what they have
(28:30):
and what they need. They've they've had some some pretty
solid talent in the system, but I'll be interested to
see what kind of happens when we get two years
down the road preparing for for l A. On the
other side, we talked about how entertaining the men's men's
(28:52):
game game was, but man, oh man, the women found
a way and man, we talked about how out like
the men's game and parody and and I talked about
(29:15):
earlier about a lot of college kids getting the opportunity
to play, a lot of international kids getting a chance
to play in college or some playing in pros now,
so they get the chance to play against these guys,
so they're the fear factor is different now because they're
already playing against these guys at least four times a year,
not including playoffs. Same with the WNBA, either they're playing
(29:39):
against the Asia Wilson's of the world, all these girls
or whatnot in the WNBA or overseas. So we're seeing
talent like USA obviously had the talent the name the Stars,
and they had to go prove it and shout out
to France. Gabby Williams. Let me tell you, she played
(30:02):
college ball WM NBA experience so fearless, and she went
out there and played like it and it was very
It was gutsy, and I mean they h Asia Wilson
has played long enough to for for us to understand
when you need a bucket. She's a go to person,
(30:24):
so is Stewie. But Kaliah Copper, goly Man, we gave.
We give the props to Asia Wilson what she did,
but I think Copper was the catalyst. I think her
play gave Team USA what they needed to finish the job.
(30:48):
Her defense, her ability to get downhill and score. They
started running plays. They played through Stewie, They played through
Asia Wilson off the elbow. We saw the handoff to
Copper Boombo when she gets bucket, gets to the free
throw line making their free throws. Sabrina and Escue comes
in solid minutes, Kelsey Plum, solid minutes like I mean,
(31:12):
they it just they did not get rattled because half
of those those women coming or coming off of championships,
so they understand the moment. And I mean we see
the video quoting on social media with Kelsey at the
free throw line smiling like the moment wasn't too big
(31:33):
for her. Asia Wilson locked in. I mean they're all
locked in. The moment wasn't too big for him. So
they handled themselves well because I'll tell you what, just
listening on TV and how loud it was, like entertained,
I can I can't. I can only imagine what it
was sounding like in that building. And you know, France,
(31:56):
riding the wave of the home crowd and their building
which they're famili you with, played hard, they played physical,
and you know, feb basketball once again, folks is another
level compared to the NBA, and I think we're seeing
that now. How physical, I mean, it was a wrestling match.
The first five minutes of that of that women's game
(32:17):
was literally bumping run. Like literally it was bumping run.
And I think Team USA was a little rattled from
it because we're they're expecting the calls and it was
nothing there. So they settled in like the pros that
(32:39):
they are. They understood how the game is going to
be called, and they took advantage of it. Agent Wilson
started to be more aggressive on the offensive glass or
any defensive glass really on the glass Stuy getting to
her spot doing what she does. Everyone just kind of
stepping in the moment and allowing each other to do
what they needed to do. I mean that the biggest
(32:59):
thing I think for an Olympic coach, and that was
kind of the situation for us in two thousand and
you know, so I can only speak on that more
than anything. And then washing the team. When I called
the games in OH one, it wasn't about who's the
leading scorer, who needed to get their touches. It's like
who was in rhythm getting it done at the moment,
(33:21):
and you placed them and both of those teams, the
men and the women did so. When Stephanie was going,
they played through steph. When Lebron was rolling, they opened,
they moved, They made sure he was able to get
downhill and do what he needed to do, made sure Asia,
Wilson and Copper were able to do what they needed
to do. So it was man, not even a golf
(33:44):
clob Man that was that was That was crazy. That
was crazy to watch. So the twenty eight is gonna
be damn good again. Man, Man, Yes, we don't want
these one point games. If we're going to have them. Obviously,
we want us to come out on top. But that
was entertaining, man, that was entertaining to watch like it's
That was one of those games like you can go
(34:06):
back and watch again and still feel like it is
live when you watch it a second time. So shout
out to those women. They gave us a hell of
a show. And you could tell it was a hell
of a show with all the stars celebs sitting courtside
(34:27):
making sure they were in the building, saying with the
men's game, I was thoroughly entertained with my guy Steph
Marberry and even Mellow having the time of the life courtside.
More than likely man sitting there at a game like that,
I think that would be me as well, truth be told,
just living in the moment being a fan, not too
(34:51):
cool being a fan. And that's what that's what I think.
We all were watching at home yelling. I mean I'm
hearing people saying were yelling at the wall. Shout out
to Harry, Harry Douglas. I was watching him say he
was yelling at the walls for I mean, in excitement
for what was being witnessed by Steph, what was being
(35:13):
witnessed by the women's team. So man, oh man, I
can't wait for twenty eighties. I got a couple of things.
(35:37):
I'm gonna let you guys go. I know y'all kicking
your feet up and enjoying it, but I'm gonna say,
you know, I'm a golf guy, so I gotta give
my shout out to Scotti Scheffler. Shout out to Lidia
Coe as well. But Scottie Scheffler, who man for you
guys who watched golf, what he did amazing. You could
tell he actually appreciated the moment, like that's what the
That's what the Olympics is about. The ceremonies is about,
(36:00):
Like you win. These guys have won championships, a tournament,
but when they're on that metal stand, receiving their metal
and the emotions that come with it because you're doing
it for your country is next level. And it was
cool to see him enjoying the moment in emotional and
shout out to the joker, to Jokic and reading comments
(36:24):
about him in his celebration with his team. He is
a homer man. He loves his country. He loves his countrymen,
and that was the epitome of that right there, of
him celebrating the moment like I've never seen Yokics so
(36:45):
happy and thrilled and living in the moment, like we
saw him on the bus with his teammates and enjoying it,
watching them on the metal stand enjoying it like that
was that was dope to see and it's funny. Obviously
I said the same thing. It's like he enjoyed winning
a bronze medal with his countrymen more than I mean,
(37:07):
as far as emotion is concerned. I'm sure he's appreciative
of winning MVP and championship, but more than winning those
those awards, he he enjoyed it. So shout out to them.
And I could definitely feel that because like I enjoyed
every moment of it. Coming up with a quick surprise
segment something I just thought about, I'm gonna call it.
(37:30):
Hear me out, all right, so hear me out. I
haven't had I had an interesting summer and got a
chance to do a lot of things, see a lot
of things. Obviously, being a parent is pretty pretty cool,
and being a parent is tough for all you guys,
(37:54):
and when you have a kid in sports, it's tough
and more so than what my kid was doing. I
want to I want to share something that like I
thought was pretty cool for me, uh, interacting with another parent.
So my kid plays basketball. He does it for a
side thing. He's not that's not his go to sport,
(38:14):
but he loves basketball. And I'm not bragging. But his
team won the championship. But point for saying that is
leading up to the in the semi final game that
they won, I got a chance to talk with one
of the parents that of one of the kids that
played on the other team and we played them in
the regular season. We were chatting, but I got a
chance to talk to mom and dad and the conversation
(38:37):
went like this, And I want you guys to hear
me out because I want to. I have a point
that I want to kind of make for everybody, and
I've been thinking about it a lot, and I always
want to tell these people because, like I say, we're
proud of our kids. We want our kids to do well.
We'll do anything for our kids when they're in competition
or whatever it may be. And the cool coming station
(39:00):
I had and I learned this with myself with my
own kids. But I'll do anything for him. But being
in professional sports, I told him, you can choose whatever sport,
whatever you want to do, but when we choose it,
we're gonna do it the right way. We're gonna go
hard and and and we're gonna, you know, get the
most potential out of ourselves doing it the right way.
(39:22):
And I was talking to to the mom first, and
she was saying with her kids, like she videos her kid,
but and but when he misses, she erases it because
she only wants show them the good things whateverever. And Dad,
he's on the sideline. He's like me, you know we
if you would we motivate, yell at our kid, coach them,
(39:43):
come and do this, do that, trying to you know,
put them in the right spots whatever whatever. And I
say this to everyone, and some of you may agree
with it, so may you may not, but I say this, uh,
and here's what I told them. And I had to
learn from myself. I said, being in in in sports
the biggest tool. And my oldest daughter if she's if
(40:04):
she hears it, she's gonna play like, oh that was
me getting her to watch film of herself. More so,
I mean, you want to watch the good because we
want to feel good about watching ourselves when feel good.
But when you're not playing well, when you fail, that's
the hardest film to watch. But that's the best time
to learn and to grow and to get better. And
(40:25):
I always believed in that. It was a struggle getting
my oldest to watch it for a long time. My
youngn my boy, he kind of he's kind of into
that already on his own. So I said it to
the parent. I said to her, I said you should
I said you should film your kids, because I was
filming it for him to see so he can learn
because sometimes, like as parents were like, what are you doing?
(40:49):
Why are you doing that? I didn't do that. The
film don't lie. Film's not gonna lie to us. So
when we go back and see it, we're like, oh,
I guess I was or whatever. So I was explained
to her that you should film him so he can
see it, and he needs to see those those bad
shots and missus and whatever whatever, because that's how he
(41:10):
will learn. Because if we're always seeing when we're successful
or we're hitting the best shots, and we're hitting the
fate aways, the tough shots, what we learned from that, Oh,
I can do it anytime. You learn, but you learn
from the mistakes and the missus and the miss blockouts
or the miss opportunity to drop catches and see all
of these different things. I said, you need to film
that side of it so they can learn and to
(41:30):
get better, and she was like, man, oh shoot, I
never thought about that. So you know, it's a little thing. Obviously,
in professional sports, that's what we do. We watch film
continuously to nauseum, feels like, I mean, all the time.
And that's how we learn, that's how we get better,
and that's how we're prepared and prepped. When we're talking
about younger kids. Obviously, parents who haven't been in those situations,
(41:53):
we don't know. And that's why I just wanted to
have that moment to say, let me talk and hear
me out, because like I think, for us, we want
our kids to be successful. Well, let's put them in
the in the right situations and give them the best opportunity.
And I also want to say for you for your
parents out there when we're doing that, and not just moms,
(42:15):
some of the dads too. When we drop our kids
off to sports, particularly individual sports more so than team sports.
But when you drop your kid off, and you know,
it bothers me when I see it, but that's just
me because I'm just an engaged parent, like I want,
I want to help my kid or whatever. Pay attention
to what's going on into practices, particularly the individual sports.
(42:39):
But pay attention what's going on in practice, because when
your kid is at home working on his game, you're
now echoing what the coach is trying to teach them,
particularly in individual sports, because that's how they get better
and grow. Like, we can't just send them to practice
and they learn what they learn and practice and they
don't practice it again, or they don't hear what they
(43:00):
need to learn, either learning plays or technique or whatnot.
It's our job as parents. We want our kids to
be successful. Well, we have to do our part. And
when you drop them off the practice that if you're
sitting there in practices, you're watching, make it particularly our
younger kids when you're talking about five, six, seven, eight, ten,
twelve years old, Listen to what they're doing, you know,
particularly like I said, individual sports with the technical side.
(43:23):
For me, I make sure I'm at the practices and
I'm not trying to outdo the coaches and whatnot not
in basketball, I just you know, I give my opinions
when I need to my kid or even sometimes the coach,
but I don't overstep my broaldies. But when they're doing
their individual sports like my kid golfs, I'm listening to
what the coach is saying because he has more experience
(43:44):
in it than me. And then now I'm echoing that
when we're going to practice, so when he's practicing, so
he's continuing to hear what he's hearing at practice every day.
That's how they get better. And I just wanted to
say that to the fans because to the parents rather
that's listening, because it's super important on how we go
about helping our kids grow to be the best versions
(44:05):
of themselves. And lastly, as as the active parents, and
and you know, I'm a vocal dad on the court
on the course with my kid, I want to make
sure he's in the right places that he needs to
be to help the coach because he's younger to help
the coach with my child and other players when I do,
but listen, I ted to that same dad. Now, I said, hey,
(44:27):
you know, we get on our kids. We yell at
our kid. Know. I don't want to say schuld, but
we're tough on them when they're doing something wrong or
when times are hard. And I said, that's okay, I'm
a victim of that too. But at the same time,
we got to remember they're still young and all they're
trying to do is please us. Okay, they want to
do for us, they want We're their heroes. Whether they
(44:50):
admit it or not, we're their heroes and they're trying
to do for us. So remember that. And when they're
having that bad game where they had that bad game
or didn't do well or missed the game, win a
shot or game, the winning put or whatever the case
may be, uplift him, uplift them. Hey man, you know what,
I'm proud of you. I'm proud of you because you
(45:12):
stuck with it even though things get you know, were hardy,
didn't do well. You don't understand what that would do
for a child. Man, You guys don't understand, Like that's
from from parents of like me. I'm into sports like
all my life, so I'm gonna go get I'm going
after that. I'm gonna get on him when he's wrong.
But I also have learned, step back, and those little words,
(45:37):
I'm proud of your kid. You don't understand what that kid,
especially when they're going through it in that moment, hearing
that from their parents means the world to them. Now
what that does, it helps them get past that rough day,
night evening situation to have a better next day. Then
you the parent can go in there and say, hey,
(45:58):
this is what you were doing wrong. This is why
I was such and such yelling or telling you or
mad at you or upset or trying to get you
in that position. Because of this, it's easier for them
to now receive the constructive criticism that we're trying to
give that night in the moment. So we got to remember.
So when times are hard, just like you know, we
as adults, we just want to hear some something to
(46:20):
calm us down and to kind of put us in
our comforting spot. And then you're willing to hear what
you need to hear the following day. So I just
wanted to get that off my chest. I've been holding
on that for most of the summer, but I thought
that was just a cool message. And that's why I
was like, just hear me out because I wanted to
say that, but we'll continue this talk in the future. Man,
(46:42):
I appreciate y'all. Once again, the VC Show always trying
to give you something, learn you something, have good time,
and I'll see you next time. VC Show signing off.
Let's go steak against
