It's Thursday, August nineteenth, and we've got Christmas in the summer,
a ton to talk about today, the announcement of that
Christmas Lated games, we're super excited for, talking about the

(02:10):
K D. Draymond interview. We are talking about the launch
of our book club, which we're very excited for. We're
also doing a Tenable Versus Untenable and the return of
the Q and A segment. We realized we hadn't done
one of those in a while, and we have some
very interesting questions. Did you guys look at any of
the questions? No good? All right, I'm I'm I'm excited. Yeah. Absolutely.

(02:38):
As always, Jenkins and Jones is hosted by my good
buddies in real life and on the Internet, Lejetro Jenkins
a k A John was that Bubba's Dragonfly Jones k
A Tyler? Maybe everybody else good? And we need one
podcast where you do that voice the whole time. No,

(03:00):
lake La, i'm um, keep it special, keep it special.
You know what I mean. It's intro only voice. Here
we go. Obviously, the big news of the week from
the NBA is the announcement of the Christmas Games. Um,
I forgot the screenshot the details. I'm scrolling to look

(03:22):
for those right now. I think the most interesting thing
is Katie Um Draymond ship. I think that's the the best,
the best ship to happen from NBA. Oh my god,
that I had to eat that motherfucker. All right, well

(03:48):
let's let's we can we can talk about the Katie
Draymond first. Um, great sit down, a ton of gems
in it. I think the thing that's getting the most
play today, no surprise, is Draymond just right up asking
him about the infamous fight, you know, after the verbal
fight after the Clippers game. Um, and the response to

(04:08):
that from the Warriors management, and Draymond's question, which I
love that he said, because I've been getting my ass
kicked since you left? How much was that responsible for
you leaving Golden State? K D specifically referenced the last
dance say, hey, you know when Scotty had sucked up,
everyone got together and said you fucked up, and the
team was able to kind of share their feelings and

(04:29):
move on. For me, Katie basically said he didn't feel
like you know, the Warriors ever did that. So what
did you guys think of that? Kind of interesting to
see two dudes of that stature talk about that ship
not twenty years later, but you know, two years later.
M hmm. Yeah, and and and And that's an interesting
point you bring up about how we are seeing the
real time grooming of like Draymond being a media personality

(04:50):
while still an active NBA player, right, which is which
is very two thousand twenty one is I think, But
that's probably a whole lot of discussion. But going back
to what she said, Um, I thought I thought it
was interesting that they they they both kind of agreed
that the kind of the infantilizing of them by by
the management and and Kerr and Myers was what rubbed
them the wrong way, right, Like Draymond, you know, was

(05:12):
talking about how how they were demanding that he apologized,
and Draymond was like, bro, I'll talk to Kevin. Y'all
aren't gonna tell me what to say to Kevin, you
know what I mean? Like like they were trying to
treat that grown ass man like a little ass kid,
telling him what he had to say. He had to
go apologize. And of course, you know, there was some
ship that Draymond and Kad had to work out about that,
and Dreamon probably was the one who's gonna have to
own up and say, Yo, I funked up. I was

(05:32):
bowling blah blah blah. But you cannot tell a grown
ass man that he has to apologize to another girl asking, right,
you have to trust him to be an adult who
was going to communicate with another deult, don't work that
ship out of himself. Like I think, of course, management
probably should have told Draymond, yo, you gotta go talk
to Katy. You'all gotta work this ship out and left
it at that, you know what I mean, without putting
the fucking onus on him. You have to apologize. Here's

(05:53):
a big difference between those two. I mean, they blew
it out of proportion when corporate corporate suits get involved
and ship. This is basketball. This situation was a basketball situation,
and they basically go ahead that short if they necessarily
blew it out of the ports because Raymond said in
an interview, Bro, we knew you checked out last season,
you know what I mean. So so so that wasn't
just something some random ship that happened in the heat

(06:15):
of the moment. That ship was bubbling for a minute there.
But if there's an argument and there is speculation of it,
you know, on Twitter or whatever, and then they actually
go out and suspended nigga, they fanned the fucking fire. Bro,
let them be men and just have the conversation. It
was gonna happen. You know what I'm saying, These motherfuckers

(06:36):
suspending for coling the teammate a bit, just that that's
a lot of ship, bro. And then Draymond even said
he just laughed at the nigga face like this is
ridiculous because we do that they're having. They are a
great team, and man, that's been fucking panicked. They panicked, bro,
you know what I mean, and did some weirdo ship
and made it awkward for everybody. You know what I'm saying.

(06:57):
If they would have just let them head it out
how they was gonna handle it, it'll bit Gucci. Yeah. Well,
I mean just it was just a total misread by
management because of course they were getting to buy too
that Yo k D. He's got one foot out right now,
you know what I mean, and we need to fucking
bow down to him and do whatever we have to
do to get him to resign. But but Katie was like, Bro,
I didn't want that treatment either. You know, I'm a
girl as adult me and dream Out could have handled

(07:19):
it like that's without your interference. Even when he talked
about the media, he says that ship, I don't like
when they he doesn't like when they follow from too much,
but they're too hard and that that conversation made me
understand that man a lot. That was probably the best
conversation I've seen with Kadi, even though they already had
that conversation on the podcast. It was really interesting in
breaking ship down. Like I see why he was saying,

(07:41):
like Funk analytics ship the game of basketball is very
simple to him, you know what I mean, the way
he approached the game. He said, they'll never understand how
he sees the game. You know, when he first came
in there thinking that they knew everything, all these really
complicated as ways to talk about basketball. Bro, It's just
basketball to a d and that's what it is when

(08:02):
that can do what Katie does so and even how
we talked about this in the group yet like we've
talked about this all the time, Like chasing happiness is
not the goal, bro, just being content, you know, I'm
talking about this balance now he just wants to be
in a moment. Well, I want to talk a little
bit more about the about the fight just for a second,
because I think you're both you both got to exactly
what I was thinking of in different directions, which is

(08:24):
this is what happens when like the Warriors, I think
everyone felt like we're the perfect team for the two Tends.
They were a corporate venture that was very successful and
they had a very successful with the incorporated right and
that was a successful approach in putting that team together.

(08:45):
And in capitalizing off of what they had with Steph
and Clay and Draymond. But you had a basketball problem
between Dre and k D where two basketball players who
are both very prideful and have their own perspect TV
that's legitimate, right, called one of them called the other
one a bitch. And they tried to solve it like

(09:06):
an HR department, Like they tried to solve it like
Bob Myers is a former agent, not a former player.
They tried to solve it in a this is how
we're gonna get our synergy back as opposed to and
to be honest with you, one thing that was interesting
was that kind of agreed about the problem management had,
but in different ways. Because I think what k D

(09:28):
was saying when he brought up the Scottie Pippen think
in the Last Dances, we needed to have a day
where Steve Kerr said, everyone tells Draymond you're fucking problem
with him, you know, I mean like like they needed
to Yeah, but that's what he said, he said, instead
of getting it all out and and like he said,
they all talk about where a family. That's the corporate speak, right,

(09:50):
family first. So we didn't do the family thing. We
didn't get it out so we could fix the problem
with you being the fourth best player on the team
but acting like you know, it's fucking like, you know,
sort of tyrannical figure at times or whatever, and because
of that, they weren't able to move on to So
I thought that was really really interesting. I think like

(10:11):
I would if I was Bob Myers, I'd be very
uncomfortable watching that interview, you know. But I thought that
was a really interesting window into when people talk about
we need more former players and management and leadership positions,
that's exactly the kind of thing they're talking about, because
someone who had played understands that, like, Okay, I don't
need to call this in for an HR meeting. We

(10:31):
need to just let these dudes hash it out in
the locker room and then they can either move past
it or they can't. But that's their job. That's not
the GM's job. And it probably would have gotten gotten
like superheated in that are in that locker room, but
they would have handled it and moved on and been
better for it, you know what I mean. Sitting down
with the suits and you know, suspending motherfucker's and that

(10:52):
all that ship that that blows and way out of proportion,
you know what I mean? And they didn't like all
that ship and it makes sense, you know, if you
ever resolved a friends that you have with someone else
in a supervised way, like you know what I mean.
Like I totally understood Draymond saying I was gonna apologize
to him until you told me I had to, you know, Like,
don't you know what, Like I said, they just read

(11:14):
the situation all the way wrong. How do you see
two grown men arguing, one of them calls the other
one a bitch and you feel like you have to
step in and demand an apology from that dude, like
like like this is gonna get up there and be like,
I'm sorry, Kevin, sorry for what I'm sorry for calling
you a bitch. Gosh, Like you know, how don't you
eat that to play out? Bro? That's not how adults work.

(11:34):
Shipped out, man, It was like I said, it was
just it was. It was fucking it was. It was
overbathing of the whole situation. And I see why I
rubbed up them the wrong way. They wanted him. They
wanted him to jump in his notes application and run
to Twitter and get real. You know what I'm saying,
funk all of that ship, bro Like, let him handle
that ship. I ain't gonna handle this ship, you know

(11:54):
what I mean. Like, and and I understand how it
got weird. The ship they was talking about. It wasn't
It isn't. Kevin didn't see it when it mattered, especially
you know when it mattered for him. You feel me
so so KD has found a place with James Harden
and Kyrie Irving and Blake Griffin with the Brooklyn Nets
that will be totally drama free and you know everyone,

(12:15):
but I will say, people do seem to be being
allowed to, you know, do their ship a little bit more.
I what you talked about this, you're both I think
y'all did the idea alone. The fact that they got
these two people to sit down at this time, well, Kevin,
direct to me, is still the best player. Is the
best player in the world, you know what I mean.

(12:36):
But Draymond is still fucking relevant, you know what I'm saying, Like,
and we have this conversation now, I mean, what a
fucking idea. Man. That's just the fact that they're even
talking now just blew my mind. That's why I was
thinking a lot when I was watching it, like, how
the funk are we getting to see this now? This
music was waited, This usually was made a big deal.
This would be like gray hair niggas. You know what

(12:59):
I'm saying, bad big suits, you know what I'm saying,
All of that ship crying, you know, got dogs and
hamburgers on the back of the neck. You know what
I'm saying. Not a jumper can be shot anymore. And
you know, and and it's and it's two current NBA
players up there, you know, in T shirts and fittings
right right right like a motherfucking I love it bro.

(13:21):
Then Nick and Katie with the Joyce um John brought
it up. But I I this, like I thought, needed
to be its own conversation on this podcast, because the
three of us have talked a number of times over
the years about chasing contentment and peace instead of happiness
and joy. And he literally said that, like Katie literally
said that in an interview. Maybe that's your window into

(13:44):
going from the Warriors to the Nets. Maybe the Nets
is I can be myself. I'm at piece here the Warriors.
We could have done all this crazy ship, but it's
the work of that you know, highs and lows and
ship that that he's trying to leave behind. But I
thought that was interesting to see a dude who s
much more money and so much more career success, you's
so much more famous than us, arrive at the same

(14:05):
conclusion about how to actually live in enjoyable life. I
was kind of surprised by that. When you were at
your brokeish years, what would have helped you approached it better?
Thinking about the future and chasing happiness wouldn't have I
think the same way regards to the same approach would
have helped me out, you know what I'm saying, regardless
of what stage of life on me, so I mean

(14:27):
multimillionaire status, I'll never understand that ship. You feel me,
you know, a hundred million dollar man will never understand
that ship. But I know in my life, no matter
what what you know, level I've been on, that approach
would help me the most, you know what I'm saying, Yeah, yeah,
I mean it just goes back to how even killed

(14:48):
KD is Like you know, he mentioned he doesn't like
media phoning over him too much. He doesn't like me
to being overly critical. He's not looking to be a
dude who's all you know, food, super fucking happy through
the roof all the time. Like he's a dude who
just peace and calm and and being consent. And I relate.
You're one of us, Kevin. You know it's seven ft
alien on the basketball court. Ship. You're seven foot alien

(15:11):
living in New York who could do anything you want
at any time you want. And what you want to
do is spend your sundays like we spend our sundays
watching basketball and talking ship on Twitter. Like that very interesting.
It makes a lot of sense. But I love how
I love that they talked about the media because I

(15:31):
mean I thought he was like on some other ship,
like just you know, on some fun He's not on
some funk the media ship. He's on some like stop
asking me these extra asked questions ship. You know what
I'm saying, Stop trying to create ship, you know, I
mean it's just on something like bro like this is
it's not that big deal. I'm fucking Katie. I did
that ship because I'm fucking Kevin Durant nigga. You know

(15:52):
what I'm saying, Like, it's not that difficult, y'all trying
to make it super you know, analytics all this ship. No, nigga,
I'm just really fucking good at basketball, you know what
I mean. I worked really hard and I'm really fucking good,
you know, So I get it. I get it. I
don't get it. I've never been half as good at anything,

(16:14):
but I get why he why you approached it in
the way I said, this is the best I've ever
seen KD. Like, go ahead, go ahead, what's that ship?
He said on his Black Planet page in like two
thousand eight. I'm me, I do me, and I chill
like that's fucking Kevin Durant's life. Fucking monter right there.
And he's had a lot of growth and change clearly
as a person from two thousand and eight, but the
core desire has remained the same, which I think is

(16:37):
very admirable. He talked about his perception, how he thought
about things, you know, differently. He was younger, he was
still him, but he was younger. Now he's an older
version of that same thing, with a lot more knowledge,
you know what I mean. So the things that like
we're amazing him aren't aren't that anymore. It's like, I
see what y'all, niggas are you know. Um. Let's let's
talk about the NBA announced the two opening of this schedule.

(17:00):
There's the October opening when the season technically starts, and
then there's the Christmas Day schedule when people actually start
paying attention, um, everyone besides basketball junkies. Let's talk about
the Christmas Day schedule. H Hawks and Nicks in the morning,
Celtics at Bucks, Uh, then Warriors at Sons, then Nets
at Lakers? Is the prime time game? Uh? Than Mavericks

(17:23):
at Jazz? What jumped out of you guys from the schedule?
Why the fun of the Jazz there? Why? Why can't
that have been been been MAVs um um Nuggets. That's
what I would have wanted. I wouldn't wanted having the
MVP not play on Christmas as wild. That's a big
fucking fumble there. I don't get that at all. I
was hoping for MAVs Clippers. I mean, but like basically

(17:44):
anyone other than the Jazz, you know, for the night game.
I mean, I get it, it's ten thirty on the
East Coast, they know, you know, that's the West Coast
game for sure, But like MAVs Clippers, you get some
I mean, like there's some juice in that and some
dudes who don't like each other and everything. I know,
maybe they're, you know, thinking about Kauai not necessarily being
available or whatever, but I was really I was surprised
at that as well. And I think someone said it's

(18:06):
the first time that the reigning MVP hasn't played on
Christmas and quite some time, um for Yoki, which is
kind of a surprise too. Celtics. I know they're these Celtics.
I don't give off fuck other than Jason Tatum them niggas. Sorry, Jackson,
that's a fucking fact. These niggas are not good. We

(18:27):
want to see them. I mean so that motherfuckert nine
am dog get them niggas on in there. The Bucks
gonna draw them niggas, bro Like why their their problem
is that they wanted Nets the Lakers, so they couldn't
give us Nets Bucks, which would have been like that,
that would have been the right matchup for the Bucks.

(18:48):
Might Number one takeaway is just Nets Lakers, like five
o'clock on the West Coast. I'm so that's perfect. I'm
so fucking excited, like I might sell part to my house.
Two attempts to go to the game with the kids.
It's gonna cost like nine bucks from nose Bleeds or
some high off Turkey and blue dream watching that ship,

(19:12):
bron A D Russ K D Harden Kyrie got damn
Like if you can't see that in person, see that
ship in person, bro, Well we are the only I'll
talk about the Lakers opening in the Lakers open up
on opening night with the Warriors at home. So Russ's
debut like that for me, especially trying to think about

(19:33):
taking the kids, Like you check a lot of all
timer boxes on that ship, you know what I mean?
Like if we can find a way to get to
that game to like, it's gonna be It's gonna be crazy.
It's gonna be fucking crazy. It's Clay. Is Clay good
to go for the season start? I don't know. That'll
probably determine how much of the house and will do

(19:57):
Clay be out here missing practice? They talked about that
shoot on that Katie ship too. Man, we don't talk
about I know that nig would be highest, but like, hey,
I catch you all next to you know what I mean,
I'm going to shoot at eleven o'clock tonight by myself,
right right. I had to have practice without miss half
a jumper the whole time. You know what I'm saying

(20:21):
out of here? Um, alright, we we had we had
a brief conversation that really peaked a lot of people's
interests on the last show about my kids complaining about
being an old Navy and John bringing up that we
used to have to like weave between exercise equipment at
sears and ship to get new school jeans. Uh, you

(20:44):
wanted to talk about like different stories that you were
at his kids or what did you want to talk about.
I'm just saying, like, bro, there were some stories that
really held and nigger down, Like you know what I'm saying, Like, dude,
when I the first when I first pulled off first year,
I was j C Pain, He's out, nigga. You feel
me like I look like a nigga out the Baby's Club,
that token niggas the Babysitter's Club. You feel me like

(21:07):
I was like pulling up Like damn, you feel me
when I discovered Fucky lay Away and fucking Bernton Co Factory,
That's a that's saved the nigga dog Like w could
actually wear a Nautica for like thirty four ninety nine.
T J Max was another one that the ship might
be a regular, but it was Tony. Don't you feel me?

(21:28):
Like no, there were some stories that held us down
and people were interacting me. I'm like nigga who was
actually going to like dealer is paying full price sixty
eight seventy two for a polo and ship like that?
You know what I mean? Did anybody actually that ship? Can?
I can? I tell the story real quick that that
might give me in trouble. It's like one of the
funniest things I ever heard. There was a there's a

(21:50):
kid at Polly like ten ten years ago or something
at this point that Richie Smith, who was an All
American wide receiver played in the Army All American Ball
went to went to Arizona State in Boise State, um
youth Snoop Football League, like legend um great kid. He
put up a picture on Instagram at one point of

(22:12):
him in that outfit you described with like the plaid
pants and some suspenders and like a Newsies hat. I
was in practice the next day and this dude who
was a linebacker who was like the funniest dude on
that team said this for your Ritchie looked like a
runaway slave on Instagram model, So yeah, of course he did.

(22:42):
Oh my god, Bro, it was like it was there
was like seventy kids laughing as hard as they could
for like twenty minute. They had to stop practice from
what the world these kids living? You get like when
we were growing up, you would just get played for
what you had on in the These motherfuckers are going
to your Instagram and doing homework now, bro, like like

(23:04):
they're having ship in the chamber for when they see
you for some chitchy war a week ago. Goddamn, I'm
glad I grew up what I did. Bro. It was
still hard, though it was still hard. We didn't have
like the thing is like when ship was popular to
ship that was probably we light was expensive, you know
what I'm saying, Like, oh, navy, you can look good
for cheap? Was even you know, like I was Gap
even around like that. I don't even know if I

(23:25):
could go to Gap back then, you feel, you know
what I'm saying, Like everything was expensive that that tim
me and ship, all that ship was expensive. So Bro,
I remember me. I can't believe we did all my
uniform We did all my uniform shopping at like Target, Bro,
you know what I mean, Like when we weren't a
series and we were across the street in Target, like
get some gum, some popcorn to walk around with, and

(23:46):
six white polo shirts for fucking school. Like I remember
shopping the goodies, getting Duckhead and ship my own my
fucking one time, me and my sister because we would
swapped shoes. I remember, like swapping shoes with homies and whatnot.
So it was Christmas Toime and me and my sister
wanted to get a sneakers so she gotta shoot Like
that was a size that I have too big, So

(24:08):
being her can swamp shooters, I like talked her into it. Niggas,
she wears Hey, she's tall and it's like five seven,
but so she wears like a nine and a half
and one is now she was out here wearing a
fucking a leaven and name motherfucker was out Scooba flippers, Bro.
Niggas Loki still talk about that ship home. He's like, oh,

(24:30):
it's one of them. Was really dead big. When I
tell him the story, they'd be like, nig you had
it out broad but it was like the air Max
nineties six joints or some ship like anyway, but man
like we was, we had to figure out some ship. Bro.
You know what I'm saying, niggas was shared clothes and
all that type of ship, bro, just to make it

(24:52):
through the week. You feel me, Bro Man Burlinton, t J.
Max Marshalls off the polo ship bro, Bro. Brons in
hell will hold you down like you around and find
like a semi dollar polo for like eighteen bucks. And
you know what I mean. You know one of them
sleeves might come to your elbow. What the other one
was was right here. But you know what I'm saying,

(25:13):
it was still a deal to make that mother work
and lay away to lay it away, nigger man, that's
say Christmas. Bro. You know what I'm saying. I'll be
y'all here. You know what I'm saying. J C. Penny
down if it was for layaway, nigga bro Chaps robble
and all that. But anyway, I thought it was interesting
people talking about the stories. I forgot about some of

(25:34):
these stories. I had a conversation with my mother in
law about that Vincent worked through, like really wore through,
like came home in his jeans with no knees on
the jeans. You know, that's how it happens though that yeah,
a hundred percent. But she wanted to she wanted to
patch it up right, And I was like, and I
was like, you're feeding that boy to the walls like

(25:54):
it's a minute and that's an absolutely right, I said, absolutely,
never in your life. And she was like, what you
know our kid, you and you know my kids. What
I was like, because he doesn't fucking have to be
I'm gonna go buy him a new pair of fucking
jeans because it's that could afford that ship. I'm gonna
buy him some new jeans with holes in them, because

tenable versus untenable for you. I've been thinking about this

(29:53):
for a long time. It's a personal life decision for me,
and I need you to both weigh on it publicly. Oh,
I'm Italian. My grandpa was Italian. My grandpa came over
from Sicily. Gold chain guy, old Italian man with the
wife beater, right, I'm not. I don't wear the undershirt

(30:15):
out like that the shirt. Yeah, but I've been considering
making the move to wearing a gold chain. Your thoughts tendable, untenable,
very tendable. I'm pro. I'm extremely pro goal chain. I mean,
how big is the goal chain here? Though? And you know,
like not like not like human links, like a you know,

(30:36):
like a thinner gold chain. Yeah. I got about you know,
two three little little thin gold chains myself very fashionable.
I'm all, you're not a Doughey middle aged white dude though,
you know what I'm saying, Like, it's just it's it's
it's it's absolutely like, it's absolutely a different conversation. So
that's why I'm running it by you both as my

(30:56):
close friends and confidence. It's you a gold chain naked Okay,
fucking Mike g niked talking about Nikki. You ain't you
ain't you? Ain't you ain't you ain't there every day?
You're not a mat niked I You're fucking Mike g
You know what I'm saying. You know what I mean?
Come on, I'm Homer Simpson, who doesn't drink, bro, You

(31:19):
know what I mean. My kids are kids are obsessed
with the Simpsons right now, and it's like I'm not
Bird anymore. I'm Homer Simpson, you know what I mean,
Like Homer man, dog man. Come on, Mike Nigga, get
you a little gold chain. Get cute on these niggas.
What you talking about? All right? You know what I mean?
You're a hat guy, dog You got it in you bro, okay,

(31:43):
very senable, certified. What made you? What really made you question?
Is what really made your question is like whether I
should do it or not? Yeah, Like I don't know
how it would look. I've never warned any other than
my wedding ground, never warned any jewelry of any kind
ever in my life. I just haven't done it. So
I think wearing rings is harder than wearing chains obviously, honestly,

(32:05):
to be we even got the white gold that's like
more discreet than gold or silver, you know what I mean?
Like we got the like chilliest ship imagine. But shar
is kind of the same way too. Shara wears necklaces,
but she doesn't like she doesn't have a She's not
walking around with one of the rings that someone would
cut your finger off for because it would change your life,

(32:25):
you know what I mean. We're just like pew. There's
nothing pe pewing off of us when the lights are on,
you know what I'm saying. I think that's kind of
like a different shift. I think there's kind of like
a different shift between us and Mike because, like I
don't know about you, John, When I was like a

(32:45):
teenage early twenties, I was used to funk out Jesus
pizzas all that ship, right, So so now when I
just throwing a little plane then gold chain, and I
feel like I'm wearing understated jewelry as opposed to jewelry
I used to wear back then, because you know what
I'm saying, Like I said, I used used to when
I was, you know, in high school. Is ship so
but but you're making a whole leap into it while
we were kind of leaping back from the know what

(33:07):
I'm saying, so right, I didn't have the whole. I
didn't have the whole big chain. I did have the
big ass fake as earrings though that major ear lobes
droopy as a motherfucker. I did have those, but as
far as like I mean, just like just like the little,
the little thin ass fucking change I was. I was
learning four year old glasses when I graduated college and

(33:29):
putting my where my tooth exploded, putting the gold tooth
on lay away, like that's where I was. Hey, get
you a gold chain and go, hey, get you some fronts,
n get you, get you, get you a boy, two
or three fronts to let's see, let's see, we'll walk
before we run. We're gonna get you there, buddy, We're

(33:49):
gonna get you. We're very excited to announce the Jenkinson
Jones offseason. Book Club. Nig, oh my god, it was
it's time, bro. I don't remember what do we call
it before? Was it the Internet Friends? Book Club? It's
just books, literature books, exclamation point? I don't know what

(34:10):
can we be decided? What did Tyler call it? I
guess we'll work on the on the titles. Oh yeah,
what was your no? You named it? Yeah you did?
And my favorite writer, my favorite writer, Nigga Book Club.
I'm mid to it, I'll been so it, I'll been
so it. Okay, So here's the format I'm gonna propose.

(34:31):
We're gonna take turns picking books. Tyler has picked the
first one, I'm picking the second one, and then John
will pick a third one. We're gonna Tyler is gonna
announce a book and tell you a little bit about
why he picked it, and then I will tell you
how we'll read like a hundred pages issue a week.
But I think we could do this book in two

(34:53):
weeks and then we're hoping to have the writers on.
That's one of the modifications we're trying to make here.
So we're very excited. I think it's it was a
shipload of fund the last time we did this. It's
so much fun, cracking jokes about fucking books and not
just like everyone making the same joke about LaMelo ball
and like, you know, with all due respects, but it's

(35:16):
going to the NBA, Tyler. So, Tyler, tell us about
this book and why you picked it. Okay? So yes, um,
So we're gonna go with they can't kill us until
they kill us by hanif I do or keep Um,
who's probably one of my favorite writers right now. M
following him on Twitter as well. Basically, it's a collection

(35:39):
of essays and it's it's very much um. It's unique
in the in the respect of it kind of ties
a lot of you know, pop culture sports references into
you know, daily living and coming of age. So so
it's it's a very interesting read. It's a very fun read,
you know. It's it's it's passages on there about Schoolboy

(35:59):
Cube by Chance, the rapper, you know about you know,
Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. Is really really fun, really enlightening,
so highly reconnels, so our listeners can go and cop
it on Amazon or whatever, and you know, we're gonna
dive into this motherfucker. I already read it, you know,
to be clear, but I'm gonna reread it because I
love that book so fucking much. UM, And I'm gonna
propose we'll read Roman Numerals one too. I think it

(36:22):
was one to three and four, which is like the
first hundred thirty pages or so. I feel like that's
a good you know, Roman Numerals one through three, it's
about a hundred and fifteen pages. So we're gonna do
about every week. We're gonna talk about every every Wednesday,
every Yeah, we'll do We'll do every Thursday show. So
we'll do the first half of this book next week,

(36:42):
the second half of the week after if you want
to go ahead and order up or whatever. The book
that I'm gonna pick for the second book is How
the Word Is Passed by Clint Smith Um. So that's
your next I don't know, four or five weeks of
ship for the book club. And like I said, we're
hoping to have Hanifan Clint on Um just because I
think I'm a reading type of a person and most

(37:04):
of the conversations you hear with authors and they're so
fucking boring and it's the same questions over and over again.
I'd love to have these dudes on and just actually
like I have a different kind of a conversation about
their books. So can I still pick Beloved? And do
I need to pick somebody that we actually you know what,
you pick, whatever you want, Yeah, for sure for the
third but Beloved as heavy as fun though, bro, I know, man,

(37:27):
But I mean, how the where it has passed? It
is not an uplifting book either. It's like maybe they'll
pick the Blue is already read that. I'm trying to
pick somebody haven't read. Okay, all right, anyway, those are
the first two books, and we'll talk about the first
half of They Can't Kill Us until They Kill Us
next week. So definitely pick that up. And the nice
thing about the book club is if you read ahead

(37:49):
or you're behind, you could just listen to the segment
when you finish, when you catch up or whatever the funk. So, UM,
all right, we have a Q and a segment to end,
and we've got some great We've got some we've got
some really good. Uh, we've got some really good submissions. So,
as always on the Q and a S, thank you
so much for all the nice things you said. Um,

(38:11):
as a couple of people noted, you're correct, I'm not
going to read all the nice things like we just
we take it that the people who listen to the
show like the show. We really appreciate it. And thank
you for for for passing that on. UM. Question from
lug Nite the Homie on Twitter. Um, if you could
replace I'll give you a choice of which one of
these you want to answer. If you could replace any

(38:33):
member of any band or musical group throughout history. Who
would you choose and why or what franchise? In which
sport would you take over today as the GM with
the end goal being a championship? Okay, so so so
with the band question, we're hopping in that band and
you're replacing like the drummer in you know what I mean,

(38:56):
like that, and we would have that person's talent. Yes,
so yeah, I don't think. I don't know if that's
what we'd be doing. Well, I mean, if you answer,
if they answer that, I mean, I'm not. I can't
be in anything doing anything like that. That's the most fun. Hypothetically,
He's okay, Okay, Okay, that's a good damn question. Um Jesus, Yeah,

(39:24):
that's a really really good question. I don't want to
be for real the nerd. I want his mind. I
want I want to be I want to I want
to I want to be for real his mind. I
want to think in the way he thinks. I want
to approach things the way he approached. I want to
experience that. So I would choose that I'd be Goldie

(39:45):
Loke in the east side of his like you just
I mean, like you hang out with Snoop Dogg and
trade like that sounds fucking great. Bro. Yeah, I this
is the top of Yeah. I really have no idea.
If the question was the other Tyler is too knowledgeable.

(40:07):
I was literally thinking about every group in the history
of music right now. If the question was the other
way around, and you weren't taking over, but you were
filling in a person that you didn't think was you know,
should have been in the group, I would have probably
chose the fat nigga and fucking uh bone, which was Yeah.

(40:28):
There was never a whish verse. I needed this wish
verse replace him, you know what I'm saying, or replaced
pros in the food jis for so God was dutiful
hat all right, I need an answer out of Tyler
got the ship. Let me see um fuck it. Let

(40:52):
me be quest love in the roots. Let me be
the fucking drummer and the best rat band ever. Okay,
I can't beat that, bro Um Okay. This is from
uh A J A J ten Q on Twitter. Um.
He said, uh, after watching Loki and the m C
you What If show? Because Marvel has been on some

(41:14):
very get high and think about the multiverse ship. This summer. Um,
what imagine a variant version of you based off of
one different decision? Was one different decision you could make.
So he specifically brought up what if John had not
you know what if John was still religious? Schoolboy? John,

(41:38):
you don't really tell me. It's a fun like I
think I'm a fun boy. You just think I'm fucking republican?
You feel me? No, But that's a fair question because
you were at one time that was you are a
very different version of yourself, and you effectively made one
decision or realize one thing that now you're a very
different person, you know what I mean. So the record,

(41:59):
I was never a publican. My mom would have beat
my ass. Let's get that. This is a safe space.
I don't know what it's calling you a republic We're
gonna fight over that ship realized. But I know, wait,
what time do you go first? You go first? Let
me think if there was one different decision I made, Um,

(42:21):
maybe if I picked a different college, probably I would.
I don't see myself not being who I am regardless
of what went down, you know what I mean. Like,
it's it's kind of a hard hypothetical to bank. Did
you waiver on creating a Twitter account were funny ship.
The reason I created a Twitter account. I probably told
you this before I was on my Space. I was
a big wile a fan. Still I am a big

(42:42):
wile a fan. My motherfucking rap. And while they was like, yo,
I'm dropping my mixtape on Twitter, hop on and I
joined Twitter for a while a mixtape, you know. So
if I wasn't on my Space, you know what I mean?
And if following a while on my Space, we might
not be here right now? Who know that? Zero chance
we here? Bro, I've never been to I've never been
to Richmond ever, and I don't think you've ever been

(43:04):
to Long Beach. So if it wasn't for Twitter, I
don't know how this would have happened. I fucked off
my first year academically of college and couldn't hoop, And
because I fucked off, I ended up. I ended up
leaving that school and going and like then, ended up
in St. Louis. I think if I was whooping, I
definitely wouldn't have left, right you know what I'm saying.

(43:26):
So I think, like me, not fucking up my freshman
year would have changed the trajectory of my life completely
I still would have been me, but I wouldn't have
been me, you know what I mean, Like I still
would have been me, but I definitely wouldn't have like, um,
that was very pivotal for me. That's exactly where I
I almost dropped out of Long Beach State, UH during

(43:47):
my freshman year to go crashing charge dorm room at
U c l A. And just like right and just like,
I'm not getting anything out of this. I couldn't get
any classes from my major. So I was just taking
like Je guaral ed like bio one ship that I like,
I already did it in high school. And I was
in a magnet program in high school, so I felt
like I already knew like I wasn't really learning anything.

(44:09):
It was not exciting. And I was like I could
literally just go crash and write like you know, eighty
hours a week or some ship. So I was like
pretty close to doing that actually, And then I also
ended up dropping out of grad school two to become
a writer professionally. But if I hadn't have done that,

(44:30):
I probably would be like an English professor or something
that I would not like that you wouldn't like me
an English profession I would not I would not succeed
in an educational bureaucracy. I would enjoy teaching people, but
I would not enjoy the business part of dummy politics.

(44:55):
Dummy politics and that ship. Yeah, I understand that. Yes,
like we you to talk about like equity and diversity,
but we don't want you to actually do anything that
would encourage those things, you know what I mean? And
then the pompousness of that space too, is like, that's
not it. But I think that students would love you,
you know what I mean? Right? Um? Okay, this is

(45:19):
a really good, classic, very stupid question. Um and he
actually even said dumb ask you and a question in
the subject line. This is from regular Chris on Twitter.
He says, you know those scenes and white people's kids
movies where someone's at a restaurant and passes out into
a plate of food. If you were in that situation,

(45:40):
what food would you want to fall into to sustain
the least damage to your face and head? My friends,
I have been arguing about this four months. Okay, so
exactly what those arguments sound like, Bro, they're sweating in
those arguments are fucking you know what I mean? Like,

(46:02):
you gotta they're wiping their face. They're so fucking into
that ship. What do y'all think? So so? So, the
question is what is the What is the food or
the plate or the dish that would be the most
protectful to avoid, like a concussion or some ship sucking
your neck up or something. Yeah, and I'm gonna say
how to be realistic, obviously, I think you gotta go,

(46:26):
you gotta I think the dessert category here, if there's
so many to pick from, I make like a birthday cake,
like it was your birthday. You just fell into a
birthday cake. You're You're good, bro. Nothing happens from that,
you know what I mean? Over sweep potato pie or
some ship. Like I think the desserts have it here, Bros,
my head a candle. The desserts might have a skinny
candle on it. Though. I thought a ball like a
bowl of noodles, man, Like I like like some spaghetti, bro, Bro,

(46:48):
you had can hit that motherfucker like noodles things ship, man,
I'm just like a bowl of them, a bowl like
you know, That's what I was thinking, because I was
originally thinking like mashed potatoes. But I was like, when
do you evers or enough, you know what, are we
doing bowls or placed because because if we're doing bowls,
it's hit them that saves you, not the actual But
it would have to be I have a big fucking

(47:08):
head almost, you know, seven and seventh dates hat like
you know what I mean that we can't just we
can't just skim by that, al right, okay, seven seven
it's a normal big head. It's a it's like a
big head, but not big enough to get in the

(47:30):
side show, you know that seven to five, as was
the hats I was wearing in fucking two thousand and three,
and then motherfucker's was to me and yeah, so you're not.
It's not falling off on splash mountain, you know. So. Yeah,

(47:51):
so if it was a ball for me, it would
have to be a very big ball for me to
not just crack my jaw on the rim of the ball.
That was my thought too, Ah, I think. But the
birthday cake, with the exception of the candle potentially going
through your eyeball, an apple pie, like you said, like

(48:12):
a pot cobbler or something does not have candles on it. Yeah,
so it might be like a cobbler or or some
brownies a lemonar ring piem ring is firm enough. That
would be like shock absorption, you know what I mean,
once you get past the cream and ship like that
lemon base, red velvet stacked up, you feel me, You

(48:35):
feel me real bevver stacked up. Let's just be like
right a dessert. Um okay. Last question. Uh, we didn't
talk about it. We didn't argue. We were trying to
figure that motherfucking answer out, even though I've only been
thinking about it long enough that Someone's like, this would

(48:57):
be the one, and someone else was like, no, I
found the one. Like that's we talked about it like
we talked about the book club. That was. That was
a serious conversation. Um okay. And then Luca Papa Gallo
has got a question for each of us specifically, Um, John,

(49:17):
he wants some beauty tips from you. He says he
got exfoliating gloves from you. Uh, and he said he's
working with He wants to know what body wash you
use with your exploliating gloves. He says he has an
Avena wash. He was wondering if there's something better. Um. Hannah,
Hannah beauty has like an exfoliating body scrub which I
use and a salt bar. But like my straight up

(49:39):
body wash, I mixed FIGI with do I just takes
two scores to each and put it on. You know
what I'm saying, FIGI for the smell dog because it
makes me feel moisturized, you know what I mean? Like,
So yeah, that's that's That's what I used my body wash. Tyler.
He says he's also a huge UNC basketball fan. Uh.

(50:02):
And he said he's a fan because of Kendall, Marshall
and Lawson. But he was wondering, what's your U n
C being a Virginia dude, what's your UNC basketball origin story? Um?
I inherited for being a UNC fan from my pops.
My pops grew up in little country as town called
uh Red Oak in Virginia, which is like fifteen minutes
from the North Carolina border. And um, you know they

(50:24):
used to get UNC games when when he was a kid,
you know, on on local TV and um, Charlie Scott
first black player in the A c C. Who Dean
Smith you know, signed on board to UNC. My dad
saw this black kid when he hadn't ever seen black
kids playing college ball on this TV before, and he
started following um U NC because of that, and I
became a UNC fans. So basically, you know, Dean Smith

(50:45):
being a stand up dude, being for integration is the
reason I'm a Carolina fan. Funny ass story though, UM
I followed Charlie Scott's daughter now like like we're we're
we're fucking Twitter buddies, Simone Scott on Twitter and it's
crazy and we've talked and I'm like, yeo, I'm a
UNC fan because of your pops. You know what I'm saying,
My pops and your pops and now we're Twitter buddes.
Life is fucking crazy like that. That's beautiful. If A

(51:09):
had not a Drop mixtape, we wouldn't be having this pod.
I wouldn't be friends with with Charlie Scott's daughter, who
it's crazy. That's sucking wild. I love that. All right.
That was a great episode. Thanks so much for for
tuning in. UM book Club ahead Booker Boy on Monday.

(51:31):
We got all kinds of fun stuff coming. I'm hoping
to get a couple of a couple more guests coming
up in the next week or two as well, so
stay tuned to Jackson Jones. Thanks so much. Are you
coming to bed hunt. Yep, honey, I'll be right there.
Just gotta turn out the light. Oh oh, some thing's

(51:59):
never chance, like your kids always leaving tiny toys on
the floor for you to step on, and Gango saving
folks lots of money on their car insurance. Sweetie, I
think I left the downstairs light on. Please don't make
me go. Fifteen minutes could save you fift or more.
