Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, Elliott, I by, do you want to tell them
who was hers about today's episode? Or shall I? Oh?
I have an idea. How about we flipped for it?
Sounds good? I call heads, okay, and we'll have Geraldine
toss the coin a hot shirt on the count of three, one,
two three. Whoa, Elliott, you just did a flip? So

(00:26):
did you? Yeah? But I'm delightfully whacky and listeners have
come to expect the sort of thing for me. But
who knew you could flip? I was a child diver.
Be some things you can't unlearned. Oh, tails, I guess
you win. I'm still too shocked. You go ahead, go
ahead and tell the children, all right? Who was here?

(00:47):
In place of our regular episode where we quiz kids
about their knowledge of two specific people from history, we
fired up that walkie talkie to the past, the who
was that? That's the one to get in touch with
some of our best guest stars from this season. These
big names are such huge fans of the podcast that
they had their people call our people, who, to be clear,

(01:10):
is an elephant to jump back on the show to
spend some more time with us. All right, I'm recovered
from my shop, So let me introduce today's guest, Johnny
Applesee and say, Eric, please plansing you go. What do
you think you know about the greats from this? The

(01:34):
game is on. Get some energy and buckle up your
brain because it's signed to play podcast, because it's time
to play. Boys who live from tom galand or so
called soap count Los Angeles. It's Who Was the podcast?
Where for today we're giving the quizzing arrest and just

(01:56):
kind of you know, vibing with some very cool folks
for mystery. I'm your announcer beat and I put the
beat in Frisbee. Now here's your host, the man who
was always willing to pick you up from the airport.
It's Ellie Klein. Thank you be. And let me specify
an airport in the city I live in. I got
into some trouble where I had to fly to an
airport to pick someone up at that airport. And welcome

(02:19):
everyone to the Who Was Podcast. Let's waste no time
in meeting our guest, one of America's folk legends. It's
Johnny apple Seed. Greeting sir and or madam. I'm Jonathan
apple Seed. We already know you, Johnny. You were on
episode one thirteen of the Who Was Podcast available wherever
you get your podcasts. Terrific. I'm here to talk to
you today about wonderful once in a lifetime opportunity. Wow,

(02:42):
once in a lifetime. As you may know, apples and
apple orchards have been my live's work. I started orchards
across the Midwest and help people start their own orchards
by selling apple seeds. We definitely do know that. In fact,
as you may recall, you quiz two kids can test
It's all about it on an episode of the Who
Was Podcast available wherever you get your prod I'm here

(03:06):
to tell you about apple lot the core of success. Now.
I'm sure you're thinking, Jonathan, how can apple I've benefit
me and my friends and my family and my co workers. Actually,
I was thinking, why are you dressed like that? You've
changed from that folklore depiction. I'm wearing what I always wear. Well, okay, yeah,

(03:30):
I mean sure you've got the pot on your head
and the pants held up by a rope belt, but
also a tie with the winds or Not, bespoke cashmir
suit and an Oxford button up and Elliott look shoes
with Lila La Lass I'm gonna be sick these whole things.

(03:52):
You gotta dress for the role you won't in. Live well,
if that's true, I must want to be on meon
iguana scally Now, Eliot, it is Aliot, isn't it. We've
met available wherever you get your podcasts, Aliot, have you
ever looked at your weekly medical bills and wondered if

(04:14):
there were some method of assuring your physician is elsewhere?
Are you asking if I want to keep the doctor away?
Just one Apple Life the day, We'll do just that.
I can tell your skeptical Hey, I get it. I
was skeptical too at first. I suppose I'm not so
much as skeptical as I don't feel clear on what

(04:36):
Apple Life actually is ter ripping. Apple Life is a
well supplement that augments your health. Okay, all right, Johnny.
Is this an MLN? If that's an acronym for many
lucrative moments, then yes, No, it's multi level marketing. The
word level refers to the different positions in the company.

(04:59):
It's a business where people at the top of the company,
so people products that they sold to other people, but
then the money they may always go back to the
people at the top Elliott. Isn't that just a corporation
one at a time? Be one at a time. Oh say,
it's nothing like that. In fact, there's not anybody below me.
This is still a one man show. And now let

(05:22):
me tell you more about Apple Life. For one thing,
it's very versatile on the goat you can use it.
Got a sweet tooth, You can make it in a pie,
got no teeth. It could be purade into a sauce
Apple Life juice, Apple Life pie, Apple Life sauce. Johnny,
are you just talking about apples terrific? Where would you

(05:47):
get that idea? What's an Apple Life product look like? Johnny? Well,
it's kind of in a roundish shape. It's a red
black alert sometimes green like Okay, you got me. Of
course it's apples. I love apples. They're a poem you

(06:08):
can eat. But my understanding is me and the apples
needed what it's called a rebranding to stay relevant. Uh.
People don't plant orchards anymore. And nowadays, if a shoeless
guy with a tin pan for a hat walks up
to someone's house, they don't welcome you to sleep inside. There,

(06:29):
hollowed out stump. You just stare at you through one
of their many, many windows. Oh no, that is ridiculous.
The apple is timeless. What's a healthy yet delicious snack
for your lunchbox? The apple. What is a wonderful fruit
to take a big bite of while sitting under a
tree on a crisp autumn day? The apple? And what

(06:51):
do you chop up and put on a plate when
you have unexpected visitors? The apple? That's right, Johnny. And
how about you. You're a legend. You planted trees and pencilvana, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois,
and you did it all on foot. I don't even
like walking from the house to the car, if I'm
being honest, unless it spits on up the airport. I
hear that. I suppose that is pretty cool. Oh jeez,

(07:16):
you're making me think about why I started planning apples
in the first place. It wasn't about brandy. It was
all about the fruit in those days. I can't be
someone I'm not. It's time to throw off this suit
and kick off these shoes. That's more like it. Did

(07:40):
you folks know I used to be so about that apple.
I was apple, I mean, able to sell what kind
of apples? Someone was biting into just by hearing it, Johnny,
I bet you still got it, if only we had
a way to prove it, like if you had a
bunch of different apples and some willing apple eaters. Minute.

(08:03):
Hold up, Elliot's got that hatching a plan look in
his eye. I am hatching a plan, B and I'll
tell you all about it right after this break, Eric,
play us some hatching a plan music. Please, we are

(08:25):
back on the Who Was podcasts. When we last left off,
Elliott was hatching a plan to help Johnny apple See
find his sense of self again. So, John do you
say it used to be able to identify the type
of apple just by hearing someone bite into it. That's right, Well,
you've got a whole sack of apples there with you.
Why don't we try it out with B as the
willing apple eater? All right now, Johnny, lower that tin

(08:50):
pan over your beautiful hazel eyes. I'm ready. Here's be
with the first bite. Mm hmm, golden delicious. Correct, next
mm hmm. Now that right there, there's a gala that's

(09:11):
two for two. Whoooo and for the last one, oh wow,
oh boy, Oh, that's a real stumper right there. Um,
At first I was like Granny Smith, but mm hmmmm.
By the second two I was sure it was Santiago Lightning. Well,
but now I'm I'm I'm listening more. My gut is

(09:34):
torn between Bashful Afternoon and everyone's favorite, the jelly bean hotcake.
I just can't figure out that apple. Ah, you can't
figure out which apple it was because it wasn't an
apple at all. That's right. I've been into a pumbed

(09:54):
to tear or apple of the earth as they say
all France. That means in French got a brother, but
as the English speakers call it a potato. Wow. So
Johnny got them all correct, and you ate a raw potato.
We have fun on this show. Very need of you
to throw in a twist there at the end, when

(10:15):
my whole sense of self was on the line. Be well, Johnny,
as his tradition on this show. As our winner, you
have ten seconds for shoutouts. I'd like to thank everyone
here at the Who Was Podcast. Also got to give
a shout out to all the animals out there, especially
the birds, and then they're really making me smile, And

(10:37):

J Apple seen out who was more. Wow. Bye Johnny,
that was so special, wasn't it, Elliott be you don't
have to finish the raw potato. I know how you

(10:58):
