with my daughter. I just flew back to DC for
a day just to hang out with her, and it
was warm and DC. So I'm it was great. And
today I have a peanut butter and peanut butter and
jelly sandwich thanks to Dan our producer. Dan. Yeah, I
(01:31):
haven't had one of those in a while. I don't
know the last time I had a peanut butter and
jelly sandwich. Me neither. You know what kind of peanut
butter like when it has the actual peanuts in it?
And I like crunch I don't like crunchy. I like smooth.
You know, it's such a difference. Some people like extra smooth.
I like the crunchy. And what type of jelly do
you like in your peanut butter and jelly? South an
organic of course? Okay, Well, anyway, I likestraw are very great.

the way, Dominique Fishback is going to be joining us today.
She's from Brooklyn. Okay, Brooklyn makes you happier, it does.
(02:15):
And I really like her a lot. I actually know
her personally, Okay, So shout out to Dominique Fishback. She's
in Swarm and so far. I mean, you know, you
know her from Judas in The Black Messiah that hate
you give Duce, Yeah, the Duce. She's been in a
lot of things, but Swarm, I think is taking it
to the next level for her. And she's starring in
the new Transformers this summer. Now that is major as well. Yes,
(02:37):
so she's going to be joining us today to talk
about all those things. We're gonna have a fun conversation.
But let's set it off the way we always set
it off. In the morning. Okay, you guys are gonna
shine a light on somebody doing something positive. Eight hundred
two nine two fifty one fifty call us up and
shine a light on them on a Friday. It's way
up with Angela. He turn your lights on, y'all sprint
(02:58):
love to those who are doing greatness. It's time to
shine a light on Yes, it is a way up
with Angela. Yee, and Jasmine Brand is here with me.
Good morning, Angela, Happy Friday. I'm so happy it's Friday,
a girl. Thursday's your favorite day, but I'm happy today's Friday.
Now you want to shine a light on somebody doing
(03:19):
something positive or somebody who you want to acknowledge. Yes,
I would like to shine a light on you, Angela. Me. Yeah,
here's the thing. Everyone knows you as this public figure,
this businesswoman, this radio personality, but you're really one of
my closest friends. And you are really good at giving advice,
and you're always giving me good advice. You gave me
some good advice this morning one on walks. Angela always
(03:39):
gives me really good advice and she calms me down.
She's like, she's really calming, so like when people call
her for asky, like you do a second nature, but
you also do it for your friends, and you'd call
me down this morning. You call me down numerous times.
So I just wanted to shine a light on you.
I love you so much. Friend. Oh my gosh, that's
a nice moment. But thank you, Jasnell. We had a
nice walk we did. Yeah, you just told me you
(04:02):
love me back, all right, Angela never everybody Angela loves me.
All right, let's calm down. Who do you want to
shine a light on this morning, Shina? I want to
shine a light on my godfriend, Chaquel Nick Chaquel nixt Okay,
tell that's why. Because my girdfriend is twenty two years
old and he's my godfriend and my cousin um and
(04:23):
our grandmother has signs of out shimmers. He's twenty two
years old. And when I go to work, she says,
with my grandmother b on the day. He makes sure
she eats, He makes sure she's safe. I just want
to thank him everything that he does for me. He
helps me out so much when it comes to my grandmother.
(04:44):
What a special person I know. And that's not easy.
And he's only twenty two. Yes, wow, he goes out
at night, but he's all. He always makes sure he's
back before I have to leave two to work. Like
I said, he gets up he feeds my grandmother. I
love that everything for like it's far when I'm eating
to do something for me. He's always fair and like
(05:04):
he could be doing anything to help. But I just
want to show if you don't tell him, I let
everybody you know, I'm much trying to shit him hatiful. Well,
thank you and shout out to him man, both of y'all,
because that's what it's all about, taking care of our family. Yep, yep,
thank you, thanks for sharing. Deante. Who do you want
to shine a light on? Hello? Yes, I want to
stand a light on my mom. Her name is Talita Scier.
(05:27):
We've just been out here trying to get justice from
my brother. I was there. He was murdered in military
housing in Virginia Beach about five six years ago, and
we're just still trying to fight, just find a way
to pass through the racists and the detectives and the
judges and everything that's you know, really keeping us from
(05:49):
doing certain things that we can. Okay, So I just
wanted to sign a positive light on my mom because
she's going through a lot of years experience cancer and yeah,
I just like just talking about it as nerve wracking.
I'm at work right now, and I just you know,
she's going through a lot, and I just tecket out,
you know, shine a light on you know, the person
I brought me in this world. That is so sweet
(06:09):
and love for your mom, and your mom is going
through so much. I could tell that you really are
going through it yourself too, Yes, ma'am. I just just
try to focus on every second instead of, you know,
trying to break it down in twenty four hours like
most people do. Okay, all right, well, thank you so
much for Cola. Y'all deserved to have the light shine
on both of you. Yes, ma'am, I greatly appreciate that. Okay,
(06:32):
you have a great day. Thank you, ma'am. You too.
He's so sweet. Thank you. Man. Yeah, that's a lot. Yes, well,
that was shining a light on them. Again, if you
want to shine a light on somebody, maybe you didn't
get through. Eight fifty one fifty is a number. Use
that number anytime if we're on the air, if we're
off the air, you can always leave a message and
we'll play it. So be fine, have fun with us.
(06:53):
It's Friday. When we come back. We have YETI and
you know, let's talk about Shamni. Let's talk about somebody
who is now worth two point five billion dollars after
this latest deal. It's way up with the Angela yee.
She's like to talk like a angela yee, like a
angela yee. She's spilling it all. This is yet where
(07:14):
he has it his way up with the angela yee.
I'm angela yee. Jasmine from the Jasmine brand is here,
good morning, and now our good friends Trav is here here.
Where are you staring? Trav calling on the phones? He's
definitely an avid breakfast club listener. That's when I first
met you. Yes, that's definitely where you first met me.
Now I'm an average ye listener. Yeah, yes, we appreciate
(07:34):
and you're going to be joining us for yet today.
So jay Z, his net worth has been updated. Guess
how much he's worth now? How much? Two point five
billion dollars a game. He did not tour, He did
not have an album release in this last year. But
you know, shout out to him for being worth two
point five billion dollars. He is at the number one
(07:55):
spot on Hip Hop's list of billionaires due to his assets.
He also had a very extensive art collection too. By
the way, that's worth up to seventy million dollars. By
the way, his catalog valued at over seventy five million. Yeah,
so it's not a game at all, but that diversity
is really important. He also has, you know, the other partnerships,
(08:16):
and he also owns title. He's part of owner a
title and that's valued at one hundred million dollars. I
didn't realize he was the first billionaire I mean hip
hop sorry, the first hip hop billionaire. I didn't realize that,
you know what. Speaking of billionaires, let's take it over
to Ditty Okay, okay, because he's also a billionaire with
a lot of kids, and he is supposedly getting a
show on Hulu with his seven children, is called Ditty
(08:40):
plus seven. It's gonna profile the entire family. They all
have businesses, even the kids, and it's gonna feature everybody,
according to a source who is familiar with the project,
so they've already been filming that show. Think about the
things that you see, like on their social media pages.
We've seen Christian Combs a lot, you know, so yeah,
I think it could be pretty into to watch. I'm
(09:01):
surprised he hasn't done this sooner. But I like this idea.
And he has a new baby, yeah, he just has seven,
and um you know he's Quincy has also adopted his
adopted son. Yes, yeah, all right, well it should be
interesting to watch now. Beyonce and Adidas have agreed to
sever business ties. Okay, we saw this coming. Yes, they're
going to be ending their collaborative partnership in relation to
(09:23):
Ivy Park, do you own any Ivy Park? No, but
I've been waiting for Beyonce to send me a box,
So send me one before you leave. I don't know
if that's going to happen. Track and you had leftover boxes, Aela.
Do you have any Ivy Park? You know what? So
I don't think I have any Adidas Ivy Park, but
I have Ivy Park before the partnership with Adidas. Okay,
you know remember she had that I think was it
um top Shop? Yeah, That's where I got my Ivy
(09:45):
Ivy Park stuff from top Shop. Yes, so that's how
it started as a joint venture with tap Shop. And
I remember when those drops came out that used to
sell out. But now there has been some quote major
creative differences. According to a source between Beyonce and Adidas,
and she wanted to reclaim her brand, also follow her
own path and preserve her creative independence. Okay, well it's Beyonce's.
I'm sure I should be getting another brand zone. Yeah.
(10:06):
I probably already had something in mine. Probably all right,
Ben Affleck and met Damon. They talked about their come
up together. They both wanted to make it, and they
were on the Bill Simmons podcast and they discussed early
on their auditions rehearsals. Now this is some best friends status. Okay,
me and Jasmine are cool, but I don't know about
all this. Listen to what they shared. We're so used
(10:26):
to having a shared bank account from high school that like,
I remember your shared bank account in high school? Yeah, yeah,
we had a Bay Banks account that we shared which
we used the check book from the check did you really?
It was always like as long as one of us
had a as long as one of us had money,
we knew that the power wasn't going to get shut off,
you know what I mean. And so I remember coming
after doing Geronimo, I was like, I probably had thirty
(10:49):
five grand or something in the bank, and I was like,
you know, in my checking account. It was like We're good.
Thirty five thousand dollars in your bank account is good. No,
but I'm saying sharing a bank account with your friend.
I know. That's why I don't what people share bank
accounts with their their mates and okay, yeah spouse, you
guys are married, so it's but I mean your friend.
And then how do you decide what you can spend
(11:09):
money on your bank account? You should see Angela's face, right,
but do people do people that are in business together,
do they share bank accounts? A business account? Maybe? Okay? Yeah,
if you're if you have an agreement trib, you're a
little younger than us. Have you ever wrote a check before? Um? No?
I actually no, I've never wrote a check. Okay, Angela,
you've wrote a check. I've definitely written checks. My grandma
(11:31):
used to give me twenty dollars on my birthday. She
write a check out to me every year. Yeah, my grandparents.
I think I got double the amount of how old
that was? Oh that's cute? All right, Well that is
your yet. And when we come back, we have about
last night. We'll be discussing what we did last night
that is pertinent and uh, maybe some things that you
guys want to weigh in on something that's interesting. If
(11:52):
it's new music, because there is a lot of new
music out. It's way up with the Angela ye so
last night, Yes, what's up? It's way up with Angela Yee.
I'm here, I'm Angela Yee. Jasmine from the Jasmine Brand
is here. Thank God it's Friday. Thank God is Friday.
And Trav is here. Travo and Trav we know him
(12:15):
from always calling in on the Breakfast Club, one of
my favorite listeners right now and now he's here on
Way Up with Angela Yee and about last night. It's
a segment where we talk about things that we did
last night and how they pertained to our life today. Okay. Now,
I was at Alabama A and M University yesterday and
I did this event calledt on the Hill for a
women's history month and one of the students, her name
(12:37):
is more Agan. She interviewed me before him. Okay, she
did a great interview. Shout out to more again. And then, um,
you know, when I was leaving, I was taking pictures
and one young student came up to me and she
was like, I just want to tell you that I
was having a really bad day, and I was feeling
really down and discouraged. But that what you just said
on the stage. It was a keynote with them. It
(12:58):
was a sit down conversation and she was like, it
really just made me think differently about things. And then
I started thinking about stuff that impacted me. Okay, you
know when I was younger, maybe people that you met
are people that you saw, right, So I'll tell you who.
One person that I went to go see Nina Simone.
I want to go see her perform live. My best
friend SCIENTI. Her dad had tickets and he took us
(13:19):
to go see that. And it was life changing to
go see Nina Simone perform. And it did make me
look at things and think differently. And so I want
to ask you, guys, was there an experience or a
person who you saw that actually impacted your life that
you could think about to this day. So when I
was younger, when I was young, when I was in college,
I went to go see Tony Morrison and she did
(13:40):
like a sit down talk and she read excerpts from
her book and stuff like that and just kind of
her sharing her her life and the challenges that she
had and her outlook on being a woman. It really
kind of left the lasting impression. Certain things that she
said I still remember. And angel I was asking you
do you have a favorite Tony Morrison book? And when
you said that, the first book that came to my
mind was the Lewis I that was her first novel. Yeah,
(14:02):
that was I need to go read that she has,
she has, I was banned in some places. I think
it was. My favorite book is Song of Solomon. That's
the most popular book. Yeah, that was my favorite book.
And I like jazz too. Trap Um. Back in two
thousand and eight, when I saw Barack Obama speak honestly captivating, um,
(14:22):
he made me like really start getting into politics and
actually want to start caring about politics. And yeah, I'm
gonna say Barack Obama as far as that's because I
said that, Hakeem Jeffries is trending today, Okay, And a
lot of people love when he talks in his speeches
because it's also relatable, right as a politician. He also
can reference Biggie. Yes, we love especially here. Yeah. So
(14:43):
I just feel like a lot of times I also
went to go she since you said Barack Obama, trav
Michelle Obama when she did her book tour. I was
coming and I saw her at the Barclays, So I
thought that was pretty amazing too. And I know speak,
I know sometimes people like, um, you know, based on
your own experiences, people would judge you and pick apart
thing that you say. I remember, like what she had
to say about her marriage being tough, and think people
(15:04):
like that was her experience. I don't understand why people
got so mad, but just her whole viewpoint and how
they met, and you know, her stance on her position. Yeah,
as the first lady, those things are uneasy when you
think about it. And now she's revealing so much with
her her own podcast. Yeah, she read. She wrote a book, obviously,
and so I remember reading things in her book. She
(15:25):
was really open and candid about even just like her
she had issues having children, She had fertility struggles and
she was trying to get pregnant, and she kind of
talked about that. She talked about she talked about a lot.
She's super inspiring. Yeah, and you know, we're in a
day and age I think where sometimes people talk about
quote unquote oversharing, right, But I think it's nice when
people can strip down and be honest and be okay
(15:46):
with things that aren't perfect in their lives too. And
I think people got so upset because they had their
own views and ideas Obama's relationship, right, yeah, and they
regular apparently right. Well, apparently that was about last night.
So again, shout out to Alabama A and M University
and all the students there. I had a great time
with y'all yesterday. Yes, and when we come back, Dan
(16:07):
is over here taking pictures because trab boy his little dog,
tell us a secret. It's coming up, and you know,
Friday's tend to be a little spicy. I feel like
tell us a secret is always spicy. It is always.
But you guys get to call in and anonymously tell
us a secret. Trav. I feel like, well you're here.
I feel like you've called before, but I had a
call before. All right, well, tell us a secret. Eight
hundred two nine two fifty one fifty. We're not here
(16:28):
to judge you. We just want you to share so
we can all feel better about ourselves. Just so you
can get it out there in the open and maybe
it'll be therapeutic for you. It's way up with Angela, yee.
This is a judgment free zone. Tell us a secret. Yes,
it's a way up with Angela Yee and Jasmine Brand
(16:48):
is here with me ye, Plus my boy Trav is here.
Travi is a listener turn friend. When made you start
calling the breakfast club anyway and start listening to you guys.
I just started listening to you guys and just loves it.
I was hearing and that this it's like, you know,
let me just call a radio station one day and
that it's got through. And and then we became friends
(17:09):
way up ever since. Yeah, and then he always comes
out and supports everything that we have going on. But
Chavi is also an open book. He's very clever when
he says things. But he also will tell his business.
He will. I love a person that tell their business.
I'll tell too much of my business. Tell us a secret.
Chavs D Philly lists going around right now in Philly.
So a D Philly Lists? Oh oh my good there
(17:31):
is Yeah, you didn't hear about that? Tell us it's
like this little list going around when they put all
these boys mind you, I can't. I don't know if
it a firm or deny. It might just be a
heartbroken girl or heartbroken dude. Just putting boys names out there.
But that our DL, that's what they're saying. Oh wow, okay,
I can't confirm. Okay, I'm trying to find out for
a couple of them. That. Plus, you don't never want
to out people. You never want to out people. Yeah,
(17:52):
that's not a good thing to do. So even if
I was listening to somebody that was DL, I would
never say. But oh no, he's not a game. We've
watched Chav go through, you know, losing his job, breakups,
all kinds of things. Oh wow, you've been doing. Yeah,
but we love you, trav O, thank you, thank you,
thank you, love you too. Bo. All right, show us
this list though. But all right, so it's time for
(18:13):
you guys to tell us a secret. And remember there's
no judgment. We don't ask your name or anything or
where you're from. We just want to hear your secrets.
Eight hundred two nine fifty one fifty anonymous color tell
us a secret. What about you back in the day.
I ain't gonna lie. I got some fluatio from my
friend boss from your friend's mom. Yeah, how did that happen?
(18:34):
I mean, it just happened. I just said a couple
of words and they just ended up happening, so you
know it is what it did. How old were you? Oh?
I was like twenty something? You r in your twenties. Okay,
did y'all say in contact after that? You and her? Like?
Did it happen? Only one? It was just one time.
(18:55):
I felt bad, so I was like, you're not one,
let me just chill. But she was with it. But
did you perform for like? She on her too. Nah,
that's the funny thing. I even have to do all
of that. Oh good money? All right, Well, thank you
for sharing with us. Your friend must never know. I
wouldn't tell either evil all right, by that's to call
(19:15):
her now? Hello, tell us a secret anonymous caller. Hi,
So I'm currently in a ten year with our girl,
and for me, you're in a ten year relationship with
a girl and you're sleeping with her man. Yeah, that's
my best friend. Okay, best friends? Um sharing everything? So
(19:36):
she has a man. Does her man know that you
guys are sleeping together? No, I'm sleeping with the man.
She doesn't. There she sleep with her best friends man
best friends man. Okay, Oh my gosh, all right, you
see about your best friends man for ten years. No,
for three years. But we've been friends for ten years
and they're getting married this weekend. But I wasn't invited
to the wedding stuff I'm getting. He broke the news
(19:57):
to her. Wow, have you spoken to her? We have,
but it's been so disconnect it's been a lot. So
I gets the drink. But at least I could speak anonymously. Okay,
all right, well, thank you friend, thank you. I have
a good one for you too. Hello, anonymous, car Let's
(20:18):
tell us a secret I have for the woman for
the very first time in twenty sixteen. Wow, oh okay,
but I don't identify a fine sexual or home sexually. Okay,
so this experiment and that's fine, but you think you
know better or first the question your sexuality after that?
(20:40):
And I don't really don't tell nobody nobody. Well that's okay,
that's your business. Yeah, you do what you went and
you'll be surprised, but definitely not alone. Right, I'm not
alone at all? Did you? Did you enjoy it? What? Way?
Too much? Oh? Isn't that what life is about to do?
I get you ain't hurting nobody, true, we were talking
(21:03):
something you were a little me related. You know. Okay,
all right, well, thank you for being comfortable to share that. Here,
what up it is? Tell us a secret? Hello anonymous caller? Hello,

It was like three? How did he react to it?
He wanted to try something new? It ain't got extra
clinky ester word. Okay, never leave me. So you like three?
(21:51):
Huh you've licked three in your lifetime? Yeah, okay, okay,
that's your move. All right, No experienced. You donna open
that man up to a new experience now, the new experiences.
He ain't know what hit him. Now. He got to
ask again another person like, and how do you approach that?
Did he ask you? Or did you just do it?
(22:13):
I asked him if he comfortable with it? Andy, He
said that he wouldn't mind it, because he said he
wanted to turn new things. I'm all about to being
you know, I'm not just going to do something, you know,
without yournalities. Okay, so you know we had to talk
and he was like, he was like, okay, you know
I would be willing to control it, all right, you
let thanks for okay, go a little further. Next song,
(22:36):
she did what's up Anonymous Carlin and tell us a Secret.
So I'll have had a little, a little intercourse with
one of my friends, like let me see. Oh, I
feel a little jad but not too bad because I
feel like our friendship is is you know, conditional anyway,
So I don't know if I should do bad for
(22:56):
that or not. It wasn't a boyfriend, it was just
what do you mean your relationship? Your friendship is conditional?
I don't know, I'm feeling like trying to go out
or you know, she needs something when she needs help
get me the drama or just a bunch of boys.
To be honest, but I don't feel like she really
(23:16):
is here for me. She leaves me for some type
of zaco. Oh you said with your friends. Man, it
wasn't her man, but like it was okay, but they won't.
All right, Well, thank you for sharing with us. Okay,
your conditional friendship? All right? Well that was tell us
a Secret. Eight hundred two nine fifty fifty is the
(23:37):
number you can always call and leave your secret on there.
I remember, it's always animous and we're never judging you.
She's like to talk like they Angela gean, like they
Angela yee. Man, she's spilling it all. This is yet. Yes,
it is way up. But Angela yea, I'm Angela yee.
And Jasmine from the Jasmine brand is here. Angela, it's Friday.
(23:59):
It's you gotta do it like that. It's Friday. It's Friday.
And Trap is here. Trapby Chap is our listener slash friend.
You know everybody else is gonna want to come up
here now too and sit in. I already got people
telling me, oh, let me tell ye I want to
come up there. We'll be rid er two. Everybody can't
be me baby, all right. Well, a man is claiming
(24:21):
on TikTok that he broke up with his girlfriend after
she got a lap dance when Chris Brown during a
recent concert. It's a TikTok video which has gone viral.
About twenty two million people saw it. The woman is
sitting on a chair while Chris Brown performs a lap
dance to take you down. So he posted the footage
and he said POV buying my girlfriend front row tickets
to see Chris Brown. And he said he wants his
money back and his girlfriend and his girlfriend back. Take
(24:44):
it down. I'm not mad at it. And then he
said his girlfriend doesn't think what she did was wrong.
Just to update everybody regarding the Chris Brown content. I'm
no longer with my girlfriend, but she said she doesn't
think what she did was wrong. I don't think it's
that big of a deal. I'm too old to be
on stage getting grinding doing buy Chris Brown. But she
was innocent. Come on, don't be dancing on my man.
I'm gonna leave you too. But I will say this,
(25:04):
if he had a big problem with it after then
you do have to acknowledge if something bother somebody. Yes,
you know he got you the front row tickets. He
paid all that money for him. You got up on
the stage. You could be like, look at the time,
for me, it meant it didn't mean anything. But I
can understand why you would feel a way, you know,
and if you do, then I apologize. You can't just
be like, ah, who cares about your field? She should
(25:25):
have called asky and then you could have gave her
his talking points and she would still have her many
Chris Brown. No, no, we don't know why they broke up, okay,
and it seemed like but we just know that she
doesn't think she's wrong, right, all right? Tyler James Williams,
you know him from Everybody Hates Chris and Abbott Elementary.
He was on the cover of GQ and he talked
about his on screen character as Gregory Eddie on Abbott
(25:46):
Elementary and what it's been like navigating the downsides of
being a child star and how it all affects his
dating life. He said he's well aware that he's the
subject of insatiable thirst online, but he said, mister Eddie
isn't a monolith or a unicorn. He said, time I
see somebody feeling that way and like good because it
is and where done to black who looks just like
to him? Because he's a good dude with a good heart.
(26:07):
I understand what he's saying. He's single. Is he the
subject of girls like him? They do when they watch Advidently.
I see people talk about I think he might fall
in the medium category angelo and they like his personality.
That's the thing on the show. But you don't know
what he's like in real life, and he said he
is single, and he said it's been difficult to date
beyond superficial relationships. The fame makes it hard to be seen.
(26:28):
He said, I've also never gotten a chance to introduce
myself to anybody. There's something that's really cool about when
I look at people and I'm like, damn, y'all met
and she ain't know nothing about you. You were just
able to give her who you are right now. And
he said his mental health was affected so deeply that
he required therapy. I still get triggered by things that
are a part of everybody's else's childhood. Every time someone
comes up to me, regardless of what it is, they
(26:50):
recognize me for. What that says to me in that
moment is that I'm seeing I have to be on
immediately because someone's watching. He probably feels performative, he said,
formative he has to entertain. He plans to fall back
from The Spotlight after the end of Avid Elementary, so
he'll be around a little bit longer on the show.
It was renewed for a third season, but he said
he does kind of want to fall back sidebar I
don't remember seeing him after everybody hates Chris Well, he
(27:13):
said that the producer said he would probably never work again. Okay, well,
here we have it. He is working and being stressed
out by it too. Yes, he said, the producer told him,
I'll never see you as anything else and you'll probably
never work again. He said, he was like, holy ish,
He really just looked at me and said that. Who
says that? And now he said the comment could have
(27:33):
been a joke, but he did take it to heart. Yeah,
that's why. Ain't therapy? I know? Isn't that crazy this business?
Why look at him now? Why would you say that
to look at me? Now? All right? And Ticketmaster is
facing a class action lawsuit over these Drake ticket prices.
Rake Yes, a Canadian law firm, has filed a class
action lawsuit. According to the complaints, montreal Man purchased two
(27:55):
official platinum seats for the concerts July fourteenth. They each
costed almost dollars Then the following day there was another
show that was added allegedly to Ticketmaster with the same seats,
but they were three hundred and fifty dollars less. Oh
how mad would you be? They want on sale? They've
really been drawn with the person, all right, so they
said the ticketmaster. They alleged that Ticketmaster knew about the
(28:17):
concert in advance but withheld the information. And they also
alleged that the official platinum seats where ordinary seats sold,
that an artificially inflated premium and bad faith. And there's
multiple lawsuits over fraud, price fixing, anti competitive behavior, and
there's also lawsuits they have after Taylor Swift's tour ticket sales.
So a lot of things going on. Ye. And by
(28:38):
the way, just fy twenty one Savage will not be
on the Canadian dates for Drakes. It's all a blurred tour. Whynot.
It might be a travel thing, you know, with his visa.
I don't know if he has an immigration and legal situation,
so we don't know if that's why. But that's what
people are speculating, and that is your Yet when we
come back, we have under the radar. These are stories
(28:59):
that are not necessarily headline news stories, but they're flying
under the radar, and we think you should know. It's
way up with Angela yee. Yeah, news the news that
relates to you. These stories are flying under the radar. Yes,
it is way up with Angela. Ye. I'm Angela. Yee.
Jasmine from the Jasmine brand is here and it's Friday
Angelet's just want to remind you again it's Friday and
(29:21):
Travis here baby, straight out of Philly, Philly in the house.
You see it. The only thing is that, um, what's
your football team? Yeah? That's a little odd. Okay, well
let's do these under the radar stories. These stories are
flying under the radar, but we feel like you need
to know them. Okay, all right, Twitter is we're evoking
legacy verify badges. That's going to happen next month. So
(29:45):
if you have a previous blue checkmark verification, that's about
to be over. Now. If you want to get verified,
Elon Musk has announced that starting April first, they're gonna
get get rid of that and you have to pay
a thousand dollars a month for VERI fight status. That
feels very expensive. So what is there something different between
people that were regularly verified in this legacy verification? Now? Okay,
(30:08):
so listen, the only individual Twitter users who have verified
blue check marks are those paying for Twitter Blue. That's
eight dollars a month via the web and eleven dollars
a month through in that payment, and then they announced
that Twitter Blue is now available worldwide for companies and brands.
There's a gold check mark, and so that is going
to be the only way to keep a gold or
great check mark. Bads. That's going to cost a thousand
(30:28):
dollars a month plus tax, and fifty dollars a month
plus tax for each additional affiliate sub account. So if
you're a celebrity, you have to pay one thousand dollars
a month basically to keep your blue get a checkmark.
Now you just can't if you're a brand. If you're
an individual, though, you can. I don't know how do
they determine that too, Like I could just say, well,
I'll pay eight dollars a month. They really are monetizing Twitter,
(30:48):
Well they need to. He paid a lot. How am
I going to make this money? Right? All right? Now?
Speaking of money, a billionaire Porsch executive. His name is
Wolfgang Porsche. He's divorcing his wife. Hold on, his name
is what Wolfgang Porsche? Okay? Sound money? Sound like he
definitely is part of the Porsche family. It's no way
your name just happens to be Porsche. Right. Well, he's
(31:10):
gonna divorce his wife over her dementia. Now, he struck
up a relationship with her in two thousand and seven.
Claudia Porsche is her last name. Now she's seventy four
and they got married in twenty nineteen. So they did
it for twelve years, and he has now sided her
illness and drastic changes to her personality as grounds for
a separation. So she's been unable to move without help
(31:32):
for months. For the last two years, she's been relying
on a round the clock care from her daughter and
four housekeepers. And so now he's also moved on, and
according to reports, he's been spending a lot of time
with another young lady. Oh, fifty nine year old Gabriella
princessens about right, Okay, So do y'all think that that's justifiable? She's,
(31:53):
you know, different, Her whole personality has shifted, and she
has dementia. She needs around the clock care. She can't
move or do anything with that help. I think it's sad,
but I think it's also understandable. Right. Also, not that
we asked behind the scenes, we were talking about what's
the difference between dementia and Alzheimer's. So dementia is a
general term. Alzheimer's is a specific brain disease, so it's
(32:14):
marked by symptoms of dementia that gradually get worse over time.
So Alzheimer's disease, it's part of dementia. Yeah. It first
affects the brain associated with learning and then it kind
of go down in the hand. Yeah, it kind of
develops into something worse. The thing I would say is
he has the money to make sure she does get
round the clock care. Yeah, you know so, and it
seems like she is getting that from her daughter and
four housekeepers. So that's a good point. So is he
(32:35):
going to just divorce her and just forget about her?
Is he still going to take care of her? I
think you owe it to her. You know it is
supposed to be till death do us part. But you
owe it to her to make sure that she's at
least comfortable, and there's people making sure that they can
do the most that they can for her. He got
a new bait now, so probably don't care. That's harsh.
It's a cold world. It is, all right, Well that
is you're under the radar. Now. We do have the
(32:56):
way up mix coming up, and then we have my
girl from Brooklyn and you know her from Swarm if
you watch that on Prime amazing series that Donald Glover created,
by the way, and Dominique Fishback is going to be
joining us, by the way. Also, the start of the
new Transformers is coming out this summer. And where she from.
One more time Brooklyn and it's way up with Angela.
(33:20):
Ye oh, shebout to blow the lead about this. Let's
get it, Come and get the tea. Yes, it is
way up with Angela yee. And Jasmine from the Jasmine
brand is here with me. Yes, I'm here. Travis here,
but he went to go get the food we ordered
from downstairs. Travis a long time listeners that became a friend.
Thank you, Trav. We hope to have a lot more
(33:41):
of y'all. Two. Yeah, that'd be fun. All right, So
let's get into this yet. Um, let's start with Rihanna.
Imagine running into Rihanna at the grocery store and having
a nice long conversation with her. Well, that happened, and
a couple of people posted her because she had on
the same outfit. But one woman, Stacy Romaine. He's a
Kenyan content creator living in La She put up some
selfies and videos from while she was shopping at a
(34:04):
Bristol farm supermarket and ran into Rihanna listened to this, Yes,
WoT she sure did? All right? She said, my god,
I don't even know where to start. I had to
tek a genuine long conversation with her, almost forgot to
take a photo. I can't wait to interview you at
baggal rebe one of these days. Our combo and your
(34:26):
kindness lives rent free in my mind for ever ever.
That's dope, that's really sweet. And she looked like she
was genuinely having a good time. And by the way,
Rihanna is going to be opening a Savage Fency store
next weekend. That's gonna be at a Roosevelt Field in
Nassau County in New York. It's gonna be a two
days celebration. And they already had fenty stores in several
(34:46):
other locations, so this is the first one that's going
to be in this area. But they're in Callie, Virginia,
La oh No, Callie, Virginia, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Pennsylvania. Already. Okay, cool,
all right, And speaking of Rihanna, cops swarmed her house.
A man showed up. He wanted to propose apparently, and
her team called the cops right away. When they got there,
they put him in handcuffs, got him in a car,
(35:07):
and had a serious conversation with him. You can't take
things like this lightly. I need more than a serious conversation. Yeah, yeah,
a restraining order please? All right? And Mary day Blige
has booked two more Lifetime Original movies that are inspired
by her music. Her music is quite inspiration, a lot
of it. You could write a home movie about those songs. Yes,
(35:28):
all right, So Mary day Blige is real love and
Mary day bligees strength of a woman. They're gonna premiere
on back to back Saturday starting June tenth at eight pm.
Really quick, Angela, your favorite Mary J. Blige song. That's
not fair because there's so many different time periods. Angela,
I'd need one of your favorite Mary J Blige songs.
(35:48):
I'm gonna say so hard because I like the ballads
that make me feel sad, but then I love the
like happy songs. Can you give me one please? Like early,
what's the four one on one Mary J Blige? Or
like a later one. Angela, that's just not fair, Angela, Please,
it's not a fair question. You can't ask me that
because when I hear it, I'm like, I want to
(36:09):
go see her perform when she was on tour where Maxwell. Okay,
we lost our minds at that show. I just want
to say that much. But I'm a huge like Mary.
I could listen to Mary J Blige's best of like
you have a Mary J Blige Spotify? Angel Do you
have a favorite Mary J Blige my life? Okay? I
would say that's fair? All right, what about you? Um?
Real love? Just like you to get back to what's
(36:32):
the four Woman remixes? Too? I'm a big fan of
Mary J Blige remix? Remember that? What's the four one
one remix album? Yes? I do. You don't have to worry.
What's my song on there? You don't have to worry? Ray, Yeah,
there you go. Mary J. Blige is like, come on, ladies,
all right, and new albums today and this one we're
(36:52):
excited for. I mean, we absolutely love black. He actually
came on Way Up with angela Ye and did an
amazing interview. If you all haven't watched it, make sure
you check it out. But since I have a Lover
is out today and you know, we actually talk to
him about this new album and he's in a better
space now. He really does have a lover now, by
the way, listen to this. And when it comes to
(37:12):
music too, sometimes people think that when life is not
great is when artists make better music and now it
feels like you're in a better place, in a better place.
But I actually like the music now that you're in
a better place. But sometimes fans like when people are
going through heartbreak, they're going through tragedy. What do you
think for you with the writing process, what's easier? I
think that it is a million times easier to talk
(37:34):
about heartbreak and to talk about who did you wrong
and how you're gonna get him back? Like I think
honestly like that part of creation is it's his own thing,
and it's amazing, you know, when you can utilize it
for something that ends up changing your life. But for
people to like almost fetish over it, it's like it's
just not healthy. It's not He was talking about his
(37:54):
the song Problems and an Exit. That song was based
on climbed the window, remember, and the sheets off of
him while he was in the bed, Like whoa listen
when somebody rips the sheets off of you. You know something.
It's going down. You did something? What about you? Tave
you're a big fan of Black, because we actually have
a snippet. Hold that thought for a second. Here's a
snippet of his song Temporary featuring John Tolliver. Don't take
(38:16):
you you know, I know it hurts you. Carry it
away tonight the pain Consoline woman, still fighting blood, I
know the mystery. I do hope you give him. We're
(38:36):
breaking shaking on fake smile, sin and snow girl. I
want you around, all right. So shout out to our guys. Yeah,
I like Black and that album. They gave a test
a little early. That's how joint right there. And that's
(38:59):
shout out to Kanda Rondo. He has recovery out today.
Shout out to miss the Fab. He's been putting out
a lot of music and um he has a new
album made entirely without curse words. Oh, by the way,
shout out to him. I Am that's out today too,
and new singles. Everyone's talking about that. So we had
to get a little snippet whatever we could get for you.
Lola Brook featuring a lot of one Young Miami, don't
(39:19):
play with it, really play with it. Didn't come to
me there on pat one of ten piece, make it
out flex keep, don't want to phone Carlo taste peg no,
but got touched. But if smit, why would I d
getting first when I'm the catch honey beans? Because the
hunter of beans like one honey again, thing got one
man like a honeys again. They got one hit. Whole
(39:40):
lot of them up peaking on me. That ain't done.
You shot a hundred on the penny, that biggest lola.
They can't stand to see me winning, so they blame Payola,
beat Stola, beat choker, no mediocre. I ain't never doing coke.
I barely do the coke. We had to kind of
bleep a lot of things out, but you get the vibes.
Shout out to everybody with new music out today. That
(40:02):
is your yet and it's Women's History Month. And when
we come back, we have some amazing women who are
we going to celebrate making change in the world. That's
what we all should be doing, leaving behind our legacy.
It's way you up with Angela Yee. When they ask
what you bring to the table, tell them you brought
the table up with Angela Yee. Celebrating the ladies doing
Women's History Month. Yes, what's tepp, It's way up with
(40:22):
Angela Yee. I'm Angela Yee and Jasmine from the Jasmine
Brand is here. It's still Friday, Angela and Travis here,
and it's still Friday. Still Friday. This Friday, by the way,
because it is Women's History Month. And shout out to
everybody at Alabama and m University. I was there yes
yesterday and a specu and we had a great time.
And I love celebrating this month. I mean, we celebrate
(40:44):
all year round, but this month in particular is a
great time for us to really just highlight women who
have done amazing things. Yeah, and one person I want
to talk about actually have done an event with her before.
Mandy Bowman. She is the founder and CEO of Official
Black Wall Street. Now she's had this company since twenty fourteen.
She's been at the forefront of the buy black movement.
(41:05):
You know, it got really popular at a certain period
in time, but I feel I feel like she's been
doing this since way earlier. What she did was she
has a whole directory and I remember when she was
first starting at Official Black Wall Street and it was
it's a digital platform and it's a black business directory,
black Woman, and since it's launched, they have actually recirculated
ten million dollars into black owned businesses. So now she's
(41:28):
expanding to ten more countries. Wo. So not just in
the United States, but in ten more countries. That's dope now,
she said, we are thrilled to be able to support
black owned businesses and help them grow. Our app mix
it easy for people to find and support black owned
businesses and their local community and beyond. It's important that
we support these businesses and help to build a more
(41:49):
equitable future for all. She's also gotten a lot of
awards for the official Black Wall Street app. They gotten
awards and video features from brands like Google, a master Card, PayPal,
and more. And now the app, like I said, is expanding,
so no matter where you are on the planet, you'll
be able to find some amazing black owned businesses. I
love that though, all right, so make sure y'all download
that app now, Jasmine, you had somebody you wanted to honor. Yes,
(42:12):
I want to honor doctor Hadia Nicole Green. She's a
physicist and she's known for her cancer fighting technology. It's
also important to know she's one of the sixty six
black women to earn her PhD in physics in the
US between nineteen seventy three. In twenty twelve, and she's
a second black woman and the fourth black person ever
to earn a doctoral degree in physics from the University
(42:34):
of Alabama at Birmingham. Now, the reason she got into
this field is she lost several family members. She lost
an uncle in an ant to cancer, and she wanted
to find a treatment that will kind of help cancer
prevention and cancer treatment. And so she started this technology
and she was awarded a one million dollar grant, and
she took her phinings to clinical trials and right now
(42:58):
she needs ten million dollars. And found it what's called
the or Lee Smith Cancer Research Foundation, And this is
a nonprofit to help effective treatment cancer treatment. So she
was named one of the Business Insider's Top thirty Under
forty in twenty nineteen. She's been recognized by the Route
and EBNY one hundred and she's received a bt her
Breast Cancer Awareness Award in twenty eighteen. Yeah, and cancer
(43:19):
is such a tough thing seeing people get treated for cancer. Yeah,
you know, the horror when you go and you find
your diagnosis, so something like this is a game changer.
By the way, she also went to Alabama A and
M University. Yeah, an, FYI, black woman have a forty
one percent higher deathweight from mess cancer, so it's very
important for us to kind of support her and be
aware of this. All right, Well, I love that. So
(43:42):
let's celebrate these women doctor Hedia, Nicole Green, and also
Mandy Bowman for Women's History Month. And now another amazing
woman is going to be joining us. Y'all know, I'm
super hype about this one. Yes, Dominique Fishback. By the way,
when she came up here to do this interview, it
was also her birthday. It was she's been celebrating her birthday.
We got her some cupcakes and everything, so we're going
to surprise her with that. We did an interview already,
(44:03):
so you know. But Swarm is out right now, so
make sure you guys check that out. I know she's
been doing a press run for that, but we actually
know each other. I met her a long time ago
with Angie C. Timas. She wrote The Hate You Give
and On the Come Up, Okay, and so I was
doing the book club her bookstop for On the Come
Up and I actually met Dominique Fishback. She was there
doing the rap parts in the book. She can rap. Yeah,
(44:26):
and she's also from Brooklyn. All right, it's way up
with Angela. Ye. Dominique Fishback is coming up, hey, yeah,
bringing the Yes, it is way up with Angela yee.
I'm Angela yee. Jasmine brand is here with me, I'm here. Hey.
(44:48):
We do have a guest joining us today, my boy Trav.
That's right, it's still Friday. It is now trapsin' you're
up here with us. You're we just found out now.
Always thought you were from Philly. I met you because
you called them to the breakfast club and people used
to always wonder how does Trav always get through? Oh?
I just called a number. That's it. There's no special
secret number. I can't I can't give that away. Okay.
(45:10):
Then everybody we're trying to call in okay, okay, and
then you manage to get up get through here. I'm
way up with Angela ye too. Yes, I got to
make sure I support my girl, yee. And as you
were saying, like, so, I am from the seven five seven,
nor from Virginia. My family is from Philly, and I've
been living in Philly just for over a decade, like years. Okay,
so you claim Philly because I always think of Trav.
(45:31):
I think of Philly. Well now I claim vam But okay,
my family's from Philly that has been living in Philly
so long. Well, Way Yup with Angelae is on in
Virginia and Norfolk, Virginia, Philly, shout out to Philly. My
best friend is from Philly. Okay, yeah, Santi Santigo, she's
from ount Airy, from Angela. Would you say that Trav
(45:53):
is your best listener friend, I wouldn't say that. I
don't want to insult anyone. I'll say I'm definitely. I'm
definitely the best listen to. Jab and I have formed
a bond because Chad is very clever, He's funny, he's
also an artist. He is, Yes, I am more of
a songwriter than an artist. And he has definitely had
some rap battles, have you trap? I have? I have
(46:13):
definitely one. All right, you talk about that here a cornball, like,
oh here we go, here we go. You know what?
People don't like being called a cornball. That's what he is.
But yes, I just wanted to make sure and Chad
thank you for driving up here to come and sit
with us. We do really appreciate that. I think it's important.
Some people, you know, they say no new friends X,
(46:34):
Y and Z. But as you go on further in life,
you will meet people that you connect with and become
friends with him. There's nothing wrong with that, And you
said to genuine person man, So like, I definitely appreciate
the invice. She's always been cool since the first moment
I met her. Bro Oh, it's a little angela love party.
Another person is going to be joining us. She loves
me too, kidding it. I'm I love her though. Dominique
(46:57):
Fishback she's from Brooklyn and she has a great catalog
and I've been talking about her for years now. You know,
she did Judas in The Black Messiah. She also has
this great movie called Night Comes On that she did
like five years ago. That's on Netflix. She played the
older sister. Yeah, that's a good one too. She was
in The Hate You Give Um, and she's going to
be joining us. She's in Swarm and I know everybody's
been talking about that. So we're gonna get a little
(47:18):
insight from Dominique Fishback when we come back it's way
up with the Angela Yeep with Angela Yee. More. Now,
all right, it is way up at Angela Yee. I'm
Angela ye Jasmine brand from the Jasmine barand is here
with me and Brooklyn's own Dominique Fishback is here. Don't
do that because we've been watching Swarm and oh lord,
(47:41):
that's so funny. But let's let's take it back. Because
when I first met you, it was with Antie C.
Thomas and the Come Up. Yes, and it was a
book club. We did a statue did her book club
tour in New York and you actually were part of that, Yes, Yes,
I did. I did a reading for her main character, Bree,
was like an excerpt from the book and they had
(48:02):
me rhyming on stage and that's why I mentioned yes indeed.
And you were also in the Hate two Gifts, So
obviously you and Anti C. Timas have a good relationship.
I feel like everybody you work with loves you, because
then you did you worked with Jamie Fox, Yes, and
you did Project Power. Thank You, Thank you. Now he's
eping my one on the show exactly, So tell me
about that conversation because I know that's been important for you. Oh, yes,
(48:24):
a verdict. So I wrote my one on the show
as my thesis excuse me to graduate from college. And
a lot of times at Peace University, I was the
only black person in my class, and in this particular
class it was sociology. And this white boy said if
African American males in low income communities just normally, they
wouldn't be stopped by the police. Wow. Yeah, And I
(48:44):
was like yeah, I was so mad, and I was
debating with him, and I was stumbling over my words,
and I realized that, and I looked around to see
if anybody could like talk with me, and nobody could
because nobody came from where I came from. And so
I said, for an hour and twenty minutes is predominantly
white university, is gonna have to sit in my truth
and the truth of people who come from areas like mine.
So I wrote Subverted and with that in mind. And
(49:06):
then when I was doing Project Power, Jamie heard about
He's on some things from it, and it was like
we had to be everywhere and was, okay, what do
we have to do? He was like, just send your
script and it's done. Then a whole year went by,
we had to do reshoots for Project Power for a
month and he didn't bring it up at all, And
you didn't bring it up. Yeah, I'm yeah, I didn't
want to sweat it. In my part. I did my part.
(49:27):
I have been emailing people and writing people about this
for so long that I mean, he said he was
going to do it, and then top of twenty twenty
he got his like production coming together and like, I
was one of the first calls he made, so he
wanted to do subted. So let's talk about your background
a little, because it's not like you have family that
was in the film or television business. How did you
decide this is what you wanted to do. Yeah. When
I was like eight years old, it's a theater company
(49:49):
that came to my school and they were doing musical
theater and I was like, man, I got to do that.
I auditioned for that company from the age of eight
to ten and I never got in. And then when
I was twelve, I wanted to audition for Laguard. Yeah,
but my um my guidance counselor I used three two
in East New York said that I didn't have the
it factor. Oh wow, And I cried all the way home.
That's crazy, like that. Did you go back and say, mom,
(50:14):
it's so funny. I don't know if I did, Okay,
but I did journal about it, and I have like
I used to do table of contents in my journals,
so I have the I have one that says leguire
is the first page. Like, but no, I don't remember
if I told my mom that, but she said, you
didn't have the fact that in fact, imagine telling that
to somebody. Yeah, and then she had on her board
like some people just can't. Yeah. I don't know what
(50:35):
she was going through. I don't know why she would
had that job, but yeah, that's all had a lot
of problematic things that she'd done even before that. So yeah,
we are sitting here with Dominique fishback the start of
Swarm and the upcoming Transformers and journaling. Also for you,
it's something you're passionate about. We had a whole conversation, yes,
about you starting this journal and you need to do that.
I am working on it, working on it. So talk
(50:58):
about journaling and why you feel like that important and
why more people need to do that. Honestly, it shows
the power of manifestation because I will find entries that
I wrote with It's like, oh man, I want to
be like Jamie Fox, or I want to work with
this person and all of a sudden, I'm working with
them or even this story. And okay, so I used
(51:18):
to have a celebrity crush when I was younger. Who
was the celebrity crush? Oh my god, wait, let me
tell you the story? And so I used to circle
back my phone. If you have it, I'm gonna read
this letter. Please this uh and I so I have
this um journal entry. So about like December twenty second,
twenty twenty two, I'm getting dressed and I'm like, oh shoot,
(51:38):
like I'm getting ready to go to lunch with this
person that I had a crush on when I was
a kid from TV. So then I looked myself in here.
I'm like, oh, I called my friend from back home.
Was my friend from when I was like ten. And
I'm like, Gees's who I'm going on? What she says?
Who I tell her she got because I used to know. Yeah,
I used to write letters and put pictures of the
men in this book. So the book now I see
(52:00):
some similarity. Oh no, I'm what what what's the similarity.
Let me know sound the clarify. No, don't. Let's finish
the story on her. No, I'm not gonna read it
now because I ain't got there on crazy thing. Forget it,
forget it, forget it. Come on. Oh that's why. That's
why I was gay into Okay, so pretty much, I
(52:21):
say this, lad, I'm not gonna tell you this now.
You got definitely that I put dare this actor and
I go. I know we don't know each other, but
I really like you. You are hot ration point, not
to be conceited. But I know that if you knew me,
I'd be perfect for you because I'm the kind of
girl you like. I have personality, a great smile, I'm
(52:42):
smart and funny at times. You never get bored. The
only problem is I'm thirteen and you're fifteen. But if
you listen to my home girl Leah, age ain't nothing
but a number. So please tell me that it's and
it's only two years, and it could be worse like
ten plus when I'm twenty year twenty two, So please
tell me it's not that bad. Love your niggas fand me.
(53:04):
I never sent it. I never sent it was in
this journey now that's what journalings for. But the best
part about the story was this. I wrote that on
December twenty second, two thousand and four, and I went
to lunch with this person on December twenty second, eighteen
years later to the day. That's amazing. When I think
about manifestation, I think about journalists, like, yeah, it was
cool because I remember that I used to talk about
(53:26):
this guy. But to see it written out and to
see the experience eighteen years to the day was like crazy.
Happy birthday. By the way, today I'll say your birthday,
thank you so good man. You're gonna make a wish,
I know. Please let these people said thinking I'm crazy
because I'm a bit oh my god, oh my good.
But but you have played a lot of roles and
(53:48):
I feel like, just already so much variety. And you know,
Judea's in the Black Messiah when I tell you that
was like groundbreaking, you know, for people to see you
in that. I'm always like and even like, um, there
was a movie where you were with your little sister
yet night comes on. I mean amazing the different roles
that you've been able to play so far. And before
(54:09):
we get into Swan, because we got to talk about
that in a second year in the news Transformers movie
two hundred million dollar budget, Where did you guys? Field
That be filmed it in Montreal and Canada and we
filmed it in Peru on Monto Pecho, which we're like
one of the first and only actors to act on
Montrei because the sacred ground. So they had a shiman
come and bless the production to let us be able
(54:30):
to use it. And we couldn't drink or eat or
anything on the mountain, so you would have the hike
all way up the mountain and then if you had
to do anything, you had to go all the way
back down. Wo. But was that experience like for you
mentally it was? It was definitely hard. I mean we
were in the we're in a jungle, where like if
there was a poison frog, if you get bit, you
could die an out like it was a crazy thing. Yeah,
(54:50):
I mean they cleared as much as possible, but it's
still the while and the temperatures up in the mountains
is so cold and it's like eleven thousand feet above
sea level, so yeah, you gotta use the oxygen mass sometimes. Wow,
did you have to train for that? Because I know
sometimes when people climb mountains and they do all of that,
they have to train. We did not train for Okay,
we should not have. Should we have? I think we
(55:11):
should have changed for a lot. I would have gotten
like physical training, like at least five months before I did,
and I didn't. All Right, it is a Friday on
the way up with Angela Yee and Dominique Fishback is here, y'all.
If you haven't watched Swarm, make sure you watch it.
We'll be back with somewhere with Angela Yee. What's up
(55:34):
this way up with Angela Yee and I'm here. Jasmine
from the Jasmine Brand is here, and my girl, my
sister from Brooklyn, Dominique Fishback is here and we're talking
about Swarm. When you just Swarm, you initially were offered
the roll of Marissa, and you said, no, I actually
would like to do this other role. For the courage
for you to even be able to say that, because
sometimes I know it's not an easy business to be
(55:55):
in and an opportunity like yeah, I mean, I go
back to that girl who wrote in the journal my
younger self, like when she saw actors, she said, this
is what I want to do. There was Monster, Charlie Stron,
it was Boyson cry Hilary Swaying, and they're they're all
different in certain ways, but they're also easier for me
to tap into. But Dre is so far removed. So
it allowed me to see what I can do as
(56:17):
I neither project and that I could do it. So
I had to say, I'm sorry, I appreciate you guys
offering me this, but I want to do this one.
And then got on the phone with Donald and he
was like, there's a lot of special guests and the
Billie Eilish, this is her first role right acting. How
is that for you with her? Because you're the veteran
when it comes to that, So how is that experience?
I was so proud of her because she didn't have
(56:38):
any air about her. She was very like wanting to
learn about what was going on. She respected the craft.
How do you prepare for a role like Drey And
so once it was given to me, I had to
pray about it. And I pray and I said, God,
if it's not in alignment for what you see for
my life, then please take it away easily. Otherwise I'm
gonna go full force towards it. Right, we are sitting
(56:59):
here with how many fishback the start of Swarm and
the upcoming transformers, and I saw they had to have
people on set also, Yeah, ask for that. That's for
a therapist. Because when we did Judice in the Black Messiah,
the day we shot the assassination scene was a day
was like the fiftieth anniversary of the assassination Treman Friend,
So energetically it was very heavy. And I remember that
(57:21):
night before we had to do scene, I felt so anxious.
And then when we did that scene, we were all like, man,
we should have had a therapist on the set. So
once I knew I was doing Swarm, I was like, well,
we need a therapists on set, not just for me,
but for the other actors and the crew members, because
we don't know how people are going to be triggered.
Because move on, the director's gonna go direct something else,
the crew is going to go do something else, but
the actor is going to be left with whatever they
(57:44):
took with them from a character. Right, And so we
have to start making time and space for actors to
be human and get taken care of. What about people's
reactions to you? Since then, I can just imagine people
sending you messages and looking at you for real, like
you are this person. Well again, I've seen messages where
people are like, oh, you know, she did her thing
(58:04):
because I don't want to. I don't want to meet
Domino Street or to the apartment at L d N.
I think she was looking for somebody who knew Marissay
the way she knew her and could give her that
seem kind of familiarity, but she couldn't find it. All right, Well,
Dominique Fishback is here, and normally we would be doing
ask Ye next, but because she's here and she's got
(58:25):
an amazing series out right now, plus she's a star.
We got some more with Dominicu Fishback when we come
back and bringing the what's that? It's way up with
Angela Yee and Dominique Fishback is here. If you haven't
seen Swarm, make sure you watch it now. She's from
Brooklyn and she's also stirring in the new Transformers movie
that's coming out this summer. Also, you've seen her and
(58:47):
Judas in The Black Messiah. Let's get back into it.
What kind of saving grace do we have for a
character like Dre Because it is trauma that she's experienced
in her life to make her act that way. So
for you, when you dig into that character, where do
you find like the humanity and her um? You know,
that's that's my main objective always. That's why I had
a journal as myself because I hadn't remove any fears
(59:10):
or judgments that I have of the character. Because you
will not do a disservice. You will not do a
service a character if you do that, and that's what
you learn it acting one O one. You have to
be a clean slate so you could be a clear vessel.
So really I didn't study anything outside of outside of Dre.
I literally said, what is the universal thing that I
understand and that the audience will unstay love? She loves
(59:32):
her sister, she loves Marissa. I was gonna say. They
were also a lot of think pieces, other things that
you're like, okay, y'all are like doing too much. I
mean I knew there ye oh manny on every little
thing like the backlash that Chloe barely got her doing
that scene in the beginning. They I understood that people
would want to see that because everybody's like that was
the first thing everybody wanted to see the sex scene. Right,
(59:54):
that's that attorney. But I was like, why are people mad? Then? Yeah,
she did that. I mean we're act at the end
of the day, right, acting. He took a role that
was part of the role. And yeah, and also I
think for people who's watching it with an like an
art Cayman and lent herself to Marissa. In order for
us to even remotely care about Dre and her mission,
(01:00:15):
you have to have a Marissa that you care about. Yeah,
and that's not easy to do in one episode. Every Right,
I gotta now, I want to go back and look
at it again, trying to find your point of view.
Watch it. We are sitting here with Dominique fishback the
start of Swarm and the upcoming Transformers. Do you think
there's any big misconception about Dre the character that you
see online that didn't you think? I mean people think
(01:00:36):
she killed Marissa. Yeah, I mean I don't think she
killed Marissa. I did for a second think that because
I also feel like watching it the delusion and then
you're like, well, maybe that did happen. But then I
realized that's not what happened as it went on. But
I don't think that's a bad thing. Yeah, I don't
think so. I think I think people are talking about it,
which makes it cool. My friend told me, like, oh,
(01:00:56):
it was at this pregame and everyone's just talking about
Swarm and so that's dope. People just continuously talking about
the show. And I think that's what the creatives wanted to,
like have people just talking. Nothing in art is perfect. Yeah,
And I saw donal Glever getting backlash two for even
creating this. What was your experience like working with Donald Glover.
I mean, he only did the pilot. When I wanted
(01:01:18):
to do this role, I like I said, I wanted
to do it because I wanted to stretch myself as
an actor. And they didn't come with a lot of like, oh,
do it like this, do it like that. It was
like show up on the set and do what I
do and then we'll move from there. Okay, So you
know that was my experience. Are you able to get
feedback on certain things that the character says, like I
think she would do this instead, or I think she
(01:01:40):
was get you back. Oh that's all I like, it's
very important to me. It was you know, there was
a lot of things and that's why I wanted to
be a producer on the show. Like I didn't, I
don't Dre's the way I approached Dev and T and
the Judas is the way I approached Elena and Transformers.
It's the way I approached Robbing and tling me Gray
and Project Power like I do it the same way.
And it's all humanity first, because if you don't have
(01:02:02):
that as an actor for your character, then you have nothing,
has it be? Hive responded to this because all the speculation. Yeah,
I don't mean like bline. Yeah. Um, Honestly, I've just
been getting a lot of love and support and so
that's what I You know, somebody asked me probles fair
that so I don't manifest that but dead wrong. But
maybe that pushed you, even your subcont you may subconsciously
(01:02:23):
have pushed you. I mean, I know you know who
who who knows? Yeah, you will never know because guess
what it happened, right, So congratulations, And I know you're
having a big birthday, Bass, It's going to be crazy
dominate fish that congratulations on everything. Honestly, I'm so excited
and happy for you, and I can't wait to get
these journals. When you put your journals out, happening, It's happening.
(01:02:44):
When we come back, we have the last word. That's
when you guys get to call in eight hundred two
nine fifty one fifty and had the final say on
what happened on the show. It's way up with Angela

(01:04:32):
may you just take the leap of faith, fresh shot,
and do your own fain after leaving the club. I'm
gonna said leave because just started to leave the first
club and its huge surrounding thing, just everyone knowing what club. Yes, like,
what made you just want to take that leap? Just
(01:04:54):
go ahead, do your own faith? But yeah, I love
you show It's great. I love it. I just wanted
to call and say that thank you. So one day, um,
I was strength and I do ask me super him
and I said I will, but it's actually it was
actually tea and yeah, I never told him after that.
(01:05:18):
I'm gonna take that to my grave, well unless he
hears this way up where angela ye
