Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, you ready to talk? Yeah, you don't talk
some wrestling? Yeah, let's do it. Why not. Welcome to
the wrestle Chat podcast. My name is the ant Man.
His name is Michael Glavin. Yeah, A lot of stuff
has happened over the weekend in the world of professional wrestling.
We had two really really big pay per views, two
(00:20):
drastically different pay per views. One that was I think
just right under three hours or right at three hours,
and one that was double that. And so in essence,
it was three pay per views this weekend this time
wise what we had worth, but a lot of great action,
A lot of things came out of it, especially during
(00:40):
a lull, which is normally a lull in the world
of pro wrestling. Where should we jump in you let's
start with King of the Ring that was on Saturday.
I love that it's in the middle of the day
because the rest of the day is completely free, especially
on Memorial Day weekend when you're kind of kind of chilling. Anyway,
So we got starting at noon I believe our time,
(01:03):
one o'clock your time, and a really great pay per
view from this, I would say, out of all the
ones from Saudi, this has to be the best one.
Do you agree?
Speaker 2 (01:12):
I definitely agree. The previous ones felt like they were
gas lit matches. That's a weird way to say that,
because guess matches. In their mind, they were fabricated matches
to make the pay per view feel more than what
(01:35):
it was. This pay per view pl E whatever felt
like a normal pl just that happened to take place
across the.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Park, which is how they I think that they should be. Anyway,
I heard that, you know, back in maybe it was
Ericon Bischoff talking about this, that back when he was
working for him, that it was the Saudi's are paying
a big nice writ in a big nice check, so
they want to have some say, at least a little
bit and what matches happen and what goes down. I
can understand that they're paying millions, millions of dollars to
(02:06):
have have that show, but it always felt so disconnected
from storylines and everything else that was going on. This
year exactly right, This felt like a pl normal insuccession
kept all the storylines that were going even saw someone
losing a title, which is which is a big deal
because I think they just made up a title. Last
time that they had something like that happened.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Ron Strowman is still the longest ranging greatest Royal Rumble champion.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
And I've never seen that title strap again in my life.
Never showed up on the on the shop. I think
I saw a few Pakistani makers had a couple of
those on their on their Facebook. But other than that,
that title hasn't seen the light of day again. Is
that one of those things that's going to show up?
And and like in one of their museum rounds or
(02:52):
like when you go to Wressell.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Media they have they have the WWE experience that's right now,
so it's probably in there.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Did my background just randomly? Yeah? I did. I thought
that was cool that. I thought, Man, we got a
light show going it and Michael's place day. Yeah, I
like it. It's cool. Keep it going. It's like a kaleidoscope.
We'll see what shows up at some point. I hired
Lee he's doing production. Is that right? I got it overall, man,
(03:20):
I will tell you. And it was really cool seeing
these this text exchange between Logan Paul and the guys.
He didn't say who it was and even had it
blacked out, but whoever he's talking to about he wanted
to do this piece of production where they hire a
first person drone flyer to fly around a big high
(03:41):
spot him jumping off the top, and it legitimately looked
like we were playing two K twenty four. Yeah, dude,
it was.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
I Mean, it's funny if you go back a year
ago on this show when when Logan Paul kind of
showed up and started making the rounds, there's a reel
that still exists out there where I go. You know,
Logan Paul's a really hard guy to like. Boy, he
has changed my mind on a lot of things in
(04:13):
regards to him a lot too, because I've seen some
of his recent like impulsive episodes too, Yeah, where he
really is like turned out to be a very level
headed guy, great business mind, and then seeing him in
WWE now and how much he adds to it, it's
just incredible, Like like so I'm I've I'm turning into
(04:35):
a Logan Paul fan. But getting back to the spot,
man just so freaking epic, Like just one of those
gives you almost chills or makes you pop moments that
doesn't happen very often in wrestling anymore.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
So, Man, kudos to him. It's one of those two
that we're going to see in the signature at some
point that you know, we see Sean Michaels, you know,
gliding down at WrestleMania on it. That's just a signature shot.
There's going to be a say that it's going to
be in one of those where you just see the
drone flying around. Not even his jump, because this jump
he's done that several times. But that shot of him
(05:13):
up on the top rope drinking a prime.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
You cannot get better product placement, been on the top
of the turnbuckle holding the prime as you get the
very first time drone shot in WWE.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
I think it's insane. It's just a really cool moment.
We did see Becky lose the title to Live. That
was the big title switch that we saw. And we'll
get to some stuff about Becky a little bit later on,
but I thought that was I've heard some other people
say this. I think you and I have talked about it.
(05:48):
We haven't really gone in depth. Is Lived to that
level yet? Is Live a champion? I mean, of course
she is a champion now, but is it one of
those the title is making the wrestler instead out of
the wrestler making the title. Now. I love her a lot.
I think she's actually really really good, but she always
feels like we did we talked about this last week.
(06:08):
It feels like she's just still trying to figure out. Okay,
last time I went out there, it felt pretty good,
but I don't remember all the things that felt really good,
So I'm going to go try them again the best
I can remember. And she walks out and does it.
I don't. I'm not buying it yet. I am buying
the storyline, which I kind of like what they're doing
(06:30):
with her and Dom but and seeing where that goes,
especially what we had to look forward to with when
Mommy returns. But how'd you feel about just the title
switching hands over and over in Saudi at King and
Queen of the Ring.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
You know, it's interesting that you say that, because I
was the skeptic last week, and I am actually kind
of bought into it now. I think the match went
pretty well. I think she has a good look holding
the title. I think it all checked out, and I
think I think this is a situation where it's not
(07:05):
a bad thing that the title is making the person.
I think it's you know, we've seen her as like SmackDown.
Uh uh, there's the uh seen her as the SmackDown
Champion before which the Raw and SmackDown titles never had
a good feel to them. They never felt epic or anything.
But her with the world title, it's working for me,
(07:28):
and I think she's dialing in a character and I
think I think there's gonna be good stuff to come. Obviously,
the pinnacle of the run is when you know Riha
comes back.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Which I'd have to believe.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
She's not going to be too far off now, but
I think there's a lot of good stuff to be had.
But she's She's surprised me, that's for sure.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Yeah, Yeah, it was that. That was a big deal.
Of course, we got the new King and Queen of
the Rings. I think both of those are solid. One
for sure solid. The other one I think was what
I loved was the ending moment with with Naya Jacks
and Triple, really cool moment between those two. He talked
about finishes, though I was wondering if, like, well, we
(08:10):
got two good matches out of Lyra Valkyria on the
main roster. She's gone forever. God, she's dead man. There's
a couple of there's there's like two or three things
this weekend that I really wish we had JR. Four
and that was one of them right there, and wishing
him a speedy recovery too. I know he's in the
hospital right now in Oklahoma, and he had a picture
(08:32):
of he and his daughter's by the side. He looked good,
but shortness of breath and some heart issues, I think,
or something like that. But we're wishing him the best
and I hope he gets to feeling better very very soon.
But there was some moments that I was like, these
are great with the people that all call him. It
would have been epic if JR. Was here because I
can already I can hear him even though he's not
on the mic. He killed him, He stayed him on fire.
(08:55):
My god, he's up in a blaze. You know that's
that's later on. We'll get to that. King of the Ring,
no doubt. We called it from the beginning when he
lost the title. When Gunther lost the title at WrestleMania,
we said, okay, well, then clearly this they're setting him
up for something else. They do King of the Ring.
He gets a shot at the world title at SummerSlam.
Gunther is he going to be the new World Champion, Michael.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
If it's a clean match, yes, if if we're playing
the storyline game, No.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
It's convoluted right now too, because it feels like there's
I thought there was a lot in the in the
title picture on both sides going into WrestleMania just for
this one title. I mean, you've got you've got the champ,
Damian Priest, You've got Drew McIntyre see him. Punk's floating
around here somewhere, and now Counther's in the mix. Like
they're gonna have a lot of sorting out between now
and Summer Slam. No doubt they'll get to that. They've
(09:48):
they've proven us uh to proven themselves to be true
and and to and to do really well with this neighbors. Honestly,
isn't that the best position to be in?
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Though? Yeah, when you can go, like for so long
we had such linear storytelling where Okay, it's going to
be Roman reigns in Brock for the next five years,
you know, so it's cool to go, who's gonna face
Who's exactly style?
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Like, it's it's the it's what makes professional wrestling, it's
not sure, Yeah, and then we had Ni Jack's completely crushing.
I think still there's an imprint. Hey, you know those
those the plaques that you that you buy from the
pay per views that you go to, they have a
little piece of the ring. I think you can buy
that section where it's indented with Lyra Valcorius during the
mat I think it's special price, but you can buy that.
(10:32):
And she's small and the plaque is small, so I
mean it all fits. She fits in the plaque. It's
pretty neat. But nothing that I said it was even
I heard Conrad Thompson say his wife is Rick Flair's daughter.
But she was walking doing something in the kitchen and
looked up that and she goes, well, how do you
work that move? I don't think you do. I think
(10:53):
it was a oh crap. She might be dead. But
we've had we've questioned Nia Jack's a few times here
on the podcast, both sides, and they clearly have a
vision for this woman now which we only have had
Vince's version of Nya Jacks and then she was let
(11:14):
go and then she came back. Now we're getting can
she erase the version, the Vince version of Naya Jacks
and get everybody on board with this new one.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
So every time that I shoot on Naya Jacks, I preface, Okay,
she seems like a very nice person. I am only
speaking to Naya Jax the character, not Naya Jax the person.
I'm very clearly separating those things.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Good because she'll kill you, Yeah, she will.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
I don't see it. When she came back, I was like,
what the heck. I don't really find her that interesting
of a character. I don't understand the idea to put
her over in a match with Lyra Valkyria. Yes, it
was a great moment for Lyra, a lot of good,
(12:17):
you know, time in the spotlight. I don't, I don't.
I don't see the match. I mean Nya Jackson, maybe
Live Morgan, maybe Rhea Ripley at at Summer Slam. I'm
not interested. So I don't know.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
I don't know what we can get you interested. I
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
I mean maybe we'll We'll have to see. But I
mean Naya is a typical uh big rustler, and that
is just a lot of pushing around. It's not gonna
be a wrestling match. Yeah, So I don't know, but
I can tell you right now, I'm just not interested.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
What would have made me interested is if they had
done what we kind of all thought they were going
to do, if she did come back, if she was
this role as a bloodline member, it might make a
little more sense. Yeah, change it totally. It could change everything,
could have changed. I don't think you can just insert
her into the bloodline now. So it looks like she's
(13:25):
standing on her own thee maybe yeah, that's true, but
none of them are are are Samoan. They're all tonguing,
so she'd had to be tonguing. I don't know, I'm
making that up. Okay, So there's anything else we need
to hit on? King and Queen the ring. I'm forgetting
great matches.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah, just overall, we didn't really speak to the match,
but Logan and Cody, Yeah, really really great showing for
both of those guys.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Absolutely, he even he even commented he complimented Cody. He's like, man,
what is something like? What a what a place to
be and thanks for thanks for the dance Cody.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Yeah, I think Cody's picking up a little bit more seam,
you know, being a squeaky clean babyface I think is
always more difficult, you know, than anything else. And he
was losing a little bit of his luster for me,
just kind of this immediate post WrestleMania, but I felt
like that match with Logan really got some steam rolling again,
So I'm excited to see kind of what comes next
(14:27):
in that in that story.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
All right, let's move over to a double or nothing.
This is the five year anniversary of ae W and
we don't have enough time to go over. We don't
want this to be a six hour podcast, so we're
just going to hit a few things. One for the
fact that that Adam Copeland, two things, three things Adam
Copeland coming out to some new music and the Brood logo,
(14:51):
which is really really cool. Then having the nice surprise
from Gangrel during the match really really cool. Something he
wanted to do at WrestleMania a few years ago was
to have him come out, and then three that he
broke his freaking leg. What would make First, why would
you jump off the top of the cage. You're fifty
fifty two whatever he is. Two? You know, like everybody's
(15:14):
seen the video of Sid Vicious jumping up the second
rope and snapping his leg. Why would you jump off
the top of the cage and land on your feet?
Land on Alistair Alistair Black, I know that was his WWA.
That's that's why, that's why I hesitated. What is Malachai?
Land on him? I know you put Barbara on him.
(15:35):
You knew it was a barbar match. Hit him, land
on him? Why did you do it? On your feet?
And here I am then, you know, Monday Morning quarterback
sitting in my chair while he jumps off the top
of a gage.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
So here's the thing. Here's the thing. I am not
a professional wrestler. I have never wrestled a match. If
I worked up the courage to actually jump, even I
could have landed better than that.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
Okay, Like and.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
I I have never said that in over a year
of being on the show, that I could do something better.
I've never said it, I could have done better than that.
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Next next week, Michael's Michael jumps off the headboard and
comes in like this.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Yeah, exactly, I'm not saying I'd walk after Yeah, that's bad.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
I mean landing on your feet. Isn't that like the
last the last thing you would want to do?
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Yeah, I don't know, man, And dude, I'm just I'm
just so frustrated about the A E W system. Now
maybe nobody knew about it. Maybe that was just a
shoot thing between you know, Adam and Malachi. Yeah, call
it in the ring type thing. But if any producer,
(16:45):
and I'll be pretty forward here, if any producer uh
knew about that spot and didn't tell him, dude, don't
do it, then shame on you man like like here,
no reason because now, as a fifty year old guy
for one spot that wasn't even that impressive that we've
(17:09):
seen many times, you just took six months on the shelf, yep,
that you can't.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Afford to lose as fifty years old. No, he already
says that he's on borrow time anyway, like he's winding down.
Is this it? That's how it ends? Are you just done? Now? Yeah?
And does he drop the title? Does he come back,
you know, come on Wednesday and lay it in the
ring and hobble back out with his crutches.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
It's the and again I'm shooting, and I apologize. But
this is the problem with ae W at large, is
because everybody in AEW is in business for themselves. And
what I mean by that is Edge is checking off
his personal bucket list, and somebody's got to defend the
(17:55):
wrestlers when they can't defend themselves and somebody's got to
defend the company, like it's it's dumb that he did that.
I love me, Adam Copeland. I love edge huge part
of my Rustling fandom and life and all that type
of stuff. So when I'm being, you know, a jerk
like this and saying all this stuff, it's because I
(18:16):
didn't want him to be on the shelf for six months,
you know. I wanted to be able to see him.
And now as a fan, I'm pissed because that one
spot was not worth it, and if somebody knew about it,
they should have stopped it.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
We had. They were too busy, the agents are too
busy with the fire marshals for setting Jungle Boy on fire.
You know, to be honest, the spot to be able
to do a spot like that is wayby. That's not
jumping off the top of the cage. That's like actual
permission from the building and fire marshals and things like that.
For them to be able to accomplish all that and
pull it off actually pretty remarkable. And typically I here
(18:54):
typically that it's usually a fire marshal that has to
be the one with the fire extinguisher and put the
per out and uh or someone on on his staff,
someone in that group. But they actually let uh, let
she's young bucks do it had the and and everything
looked like it went smooth. But cheese Louise. It looked.
It looked like you were seeing behind the scenes on
(19:16):
a movie set. That's what it looked like. And they
accomplished that that part of it well, But I'm I
wonder if all attention wasn't on the fireball and and
not on the top of the cage, because uh, that
whole match was well, it is what it is. It's
anarchy in the arena. It's just a spotfest and blood
and fire and and that is though kind of that product.
(19:36):
That's what that product is. And there's a an audience
for that. And I'll be honest, I'm part of that audience,
just not for six hours. I'm good for a match
here or there. I think every table uh in Las
Vegas was broken. I think there were There were even
a couple of poker tables that ended up getting broken.
They broke so many. Uh. You can limit some of
(19:57):
this to make some of it memorable and sp and
not every every match felt like it had a table
in it that got broke. What I did love is
that they and smart of him to put it at
the very beginning so he could just get out of
there and go gamble or whatever he's doing. But MJF
is back, made a huge statement about his future, very
(20:19):
adamant that he is going nowhere, and even inked it
on his leg. Good thing. There's cover ups and there's
tattoo removal companies.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
Everybody was very quick to point out that it's low
enough on his leg that it's covered by a rustling boots.
All the time, the WWE rumors have already started, even
though he just signed it up.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Oh you can cover that exactly. Yeah, it's cool. Though
he looked at his super I mean he came out
in wearing triple H outfit. For sure, he was gassed
to the gills, very triple H yep, and cut of
promo that if he had just threw in a couple
of uh, it would have been.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
A yeah, you know, such a great talent. Good to
see him, But I, like many wanted to see the
big machine behind him him.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Going to WWE.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
But at the same time, it's a catch twenty two
because we all know that if the if the machine
gets a hold of him, he's probably not gonna be
the exact same thing that he is now. He would
be close, but not not the exact same thing. So
it was cool to see MJF and all of his pure,
unadulterated MJF noisy and uh and man, so so stoked
(21:35):
that he's back and healthy. He looks healthy, he looks
like he's ready to go. So definitely a bright spot.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
You know.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
The face off between him and Adam Cole.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Was really really great.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
I'm hoping Adam Cole's back in good shape now and
ready to to get back in there's There was a
good number of people on the shelf that I think
are very important to a e W and interesting lean
nuh u. It seems kind of backwards, but it seems
like the people who were not doing the crazy uh
G c W spotfest gore you know, torture gore or whatever,
(22:13):
that those people were all fine, and it was all
the wrestlers who were out on the internal list.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
I don't know why that makes.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Any sense, but but no, it was. It was great
to see him and man, he looks great.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
It's because they don't do it all the time, Guys,
you do it all the time, Like I just live
in pain or I don't feel it anymore. Last one, Becky,
Becky's done. Becky's done with w W as of this week.
This come of weekend, her contract is up. But she
really kind of after everything went off the air on Monday,
(22:45):
she lost or lost the match she had already lost
the title at King and Queen of the Ring, but
did a steel cage match. Set up some great stuff
with Live and with with Dominic and the whole storyline
moving forward. There even planned a big one on on
when she was leaving with the title that he helped.
(23:06):
I've put it in air quotes because I don't know.
I mean, he was didn't look like he was trying
to help, but it didn't look like he was trying
to help Becky either. It was kind of awkward a
little bit, if I'm being honest. But I do like
the storyline. I like where they're going with it because
I think it's inevitable we'll see, you know something between
those two and Mommy comes back and just completely burns
the place down and wanted to get her title back.
(23:27):
I don't know if she wants her man back or not.
But we'll see where that goes. But Becky wave goodbye
to the crowd. Everybody said, you know, thank you Becky.
Knowing that her contract is up, and then from what
I hear right now is that she's just gonna take
some time off and well deserved. She's a mom. I
know they take the take their daughter on a d
on the road with them, but right now sets out
of action. Maybe they can just chill it home for
(23:48):
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Yeah, I think that's what it is. I mean, it
wouldn't make any sense for her to do anything else
when Seth just resigned a fat contract, you know. So
I think it's I've my guess, being completely removed from
the situation and knowing absolutely nothing about these people professionally
or personally, it's kind of like, hey, we're gonna do it,
(24:12):
wink wink, But let's do it at the end of
the summer, you know, you know something.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
But I'm still gonna want her to go right back
out and be a part of everything. You know, I
would assume they would. I wouldn't. I wouldn't think they'd go, Yep,
let's sign the contract, you take three months off. Maybe
they did that.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
I don't know, no, but that's what was going to
happen before Rhea got hurt, is she was gonna take
a hiatus, And so what better way to ensure your
vacation than to not be employed exactly.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
That's very true. You have no commitments. They can't call
you in the middle of the night and say, hey,
tomorrow you need to be in Boughkeepsie, yep, things like that.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
So I would venture to say, we'll probably see her
at the end of the summer, as Seth gets around
to training and being back in the fold. I don't
I don't know. I don't remember exactly how long he
was out, but I mean he had full blown meniscus. Yeah,
that's a lot el acl So it could be six
to twelve months probably, especially if he's taking his time
(25:08):
this go around, then probably more like a year.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
So who knows.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Maybe maybe it could be first of the year before
we see either of them.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Who knows. I follow his wrestling school on Instagram and
they look like they're doing a lot now too, so
maybe he's pouring into that a little bit, just keep
himself busy and to stay in ring shape, do all
that kind of stuff and man, Iowa would be the
place to be. Uh in the in the summer, it's
a little cooler up at Iowa. Uh. And so that
maybe that's maybe that's what they do. There's chill for
(25:35):
a little bit with their with their girl, or maybe
there's plans for maybe number two. Who knows. Let's start
the rumor here, let's get let's get let's clip this. Uh,
they could be pregnant. Just leave it at that. We've
got to dynamite tonight. We've got to smack down on Friday.
Of course, give us plenty more to talk about coming
up next week here on the wrestle Chat podcast. If
