In today's episode, in the air Luck, we'll be singing.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
That song down Down, Down we go.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
It's a banger. And yes, if Agatha hasn't reached you,
my let my podcast teach you. We're dealing with Agatha
Along episode four, which I will say is actually personally
my favorite episode so far. I loved it and in
the cheat code, going to be asking super producer Aaron
all about the legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom and
what it's like to play the first game where you
(01:03):
can actually play as Zelda.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Up next, Agatha Along, Okay, Agatha All Along. If I
can't reach you, let my song teach you. Episode four,
we open with Agatha and the Witches looking at.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
Missus Hart Sharon's corpse. She's dead.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
I didn't think you, Agatha says cryptically. The other witches
start talking about death and they realize this is a
big deal what they're doing now, and it's very serious.
They're getting kind of pensive. Alice is talking about her mom,
who died on the road, but not the Witches d
tour when she was a rock musician. She died while
(01:45):
touring in the seventies, and Alice says that she believed
that the road the Witch's road.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Her mom believed that the road would save me.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Agatha is totally ready to push past Sharon's death and
just keep it.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Yeah, She's like, uh, sorry to that woman.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Like I don't sorry to that woman, but we gotta go.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
She's like, hey, listen, anyway, more power to us, right, Like,
where we get to the end of the road, then
we get we get to divide Sharon's share of power
amongst ourselves. And by the way, I forgot to mention,
if you look at the lyrics to the ballad, it
says that the full coven isn't really necessary once you're
(02:28):
on the road, It's only necessary to get access.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Yeah, once you're hearing it's, anything goes. And then she
and Jen argue about the lyrics.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
Actually is it as Adathah says, quote burn and Brew
with coven two, and glory shall be thine, or as
Jen says, with coven true, glory shall be thine.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
So Adam is saying, you only need minimum two coven
and members once you're there.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Yeah, yeah, And Jen says you need the entire coven.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Right, So they ask Alice.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Because her mom recorded, apparently back in the seventies, the
canonical version or the most popular, I should.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
Do the most iconic version.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
Right, the most the Stairway to Heaven version of that, exactly.
And so Alice is really answered, but she's like, well,
how many witches took the road with you last time, Agatha?
Speaker 2 (03:25):
And she says one, and I think she said.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
I think she's saying, like, how many survived the road lost? Oh?
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Right, that's right, how many?
Speaker 4 (03:36):
So she's like, guess two is enough.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
Yeah, it's just kind of me.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
And so now everybody starts arguing about Sharon's death. Jen
gets blamed because everyone noticed that Sharon drank two glasses
of the poisoned wine but generally gave her one dose
of the anecdote, Billy says, well, really, it's all of
our fault for not supporting and looking out for each other.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
Oh, he's such a good boy.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
He does he and he is, and he wishes they
could just go home, but how can they go forward
without a green witch replate replacement? Angason says, well, we're witches,
why don't we just summon one? Which is risky, but
this is a yeah, this is a band of outcasts
witches and this is kind of on brand for them.
(04:24):
Billy has a spell book. They do some chanting, and
guess who appears out of the crawling out of the ground, like,
I love her, Oh my god, it's Rio, your new
green Witch.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Wow, you knew it.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Incredible And I just want to say thank you to
the Internet who revealed to me that the Latin that
they chant to get Rio out of the ground and
to bring her to the Witch's road.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
It's they're saying, it ain't easy being green.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
It's so good, which is just so good and funny
and I love this show.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Agatha is pissed. Rio.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
She loves this development, introduces herself as not a green Witch,
but the.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
The Green Witch.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Green Witch.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Now can the coven trust her? Unknown because she says
a lot of mysterious shit, and she's very clearly dangerous
but also charismatic and just like in the previous episode,
as they saunter down the road, they come to a
house in the woods and Alice is like recognizes this house.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Or seems to want to go she does not.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
She turns around, so they all kind of go after her,
but the house appears in front of.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Them again, giving them no choice.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
There's a moon symbol on the door, this time a
waxing moon firefase, and they go inside. And once they
go inside, there immediately in like the almost famous nineteen
seventies rock styles.
Speaker 6 (05:57):
It's like which is one of And the house is
like a gorgeous like California craft memories, huge kind of windows,
and it's very seventies, it's very fleetwood mac and yeah,
the outfits here, the costuming is so so good, and yeah,
I'm guessing like this is Alice's like childhood house or
(06:19):
a house that this wise.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
From when she was a kid, like for sure.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
So they go inside and they're immediately looking for the riddle,
and all the while Rio seems to be teasing and
trolling and prodding and poking at Agatha in a way
that hints it at a very significant backstory. Weird things
once again start to happen a painting of a woman
(06:44):
being burned at the steak triggers Lila. Masks on the
wall make gen feel very strange. Rock posters and a
picture of mom affect Alice. And then Lilia realizes that
Alice's mom was trying to open the road with her
music and that her fans were the coven, but she failed.
(07:05):
Alice says, both magically in whatever she was trying to
do with this song, and also financially because she had
to sell like the catalog of all her music in
order to keep the house. Lilya then blursts bursts out
a bunch of seemingly random non sequiturs, and then and
then tells Alice, don't don't what we don't understand what
(07:28):
this means. And also Lilya doesn't seem to have any
awareness that she's doing this exactly.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
This is definitely these are really important if you want
to go back and like watch Lilia in earlier episodes,
it starts to seem like she is foreseeing certain events
on the road and responding to them early.
Speaker 4 (07:48):
So it's very very interesting.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Rio confronts Agatha in this whole house is like kind
of like a built around It's like a recording studio
in a house and there's a control room, you know,
and Agatha are in the control room, and again they're
having these conversations that hinted a very deep backstory. Rio's like,
how's the quest for power going? And she pulls out
her name. She's like, you know, I want to fight,
(08:11):
but they can't do it now. Very clearly they're in
the middle of something. Rio then asks Agatha why she
brought Billy here, and she's like, well, I need hands,
I need help. Agatha then proposes that they you know,
call a truce with their whatever's going on with them,
so they can have this one more big adventure, and
(08:32):
it's and again it's a very like.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Push and pull.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
Yeah yeah. Agatha says, then, well, you know, this coven,
I'm really only using them to get to the end
of the road. And while she's talking about this, Rio
hits like the PA button in the in this in
the studio, so that everybody inside on the other side
(08:57):
of the glass can like hear her talking about like
basically all the coven being expendable, and is talking about
killing them or letting them die one by one so
she could take all the power for herself.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
But then at the very end she realizes that I
was doing this. She's like just kidding, you know, Like, wow,
dare you yeah?
Speaker 4 (09:18):
I know you you were listening. Isn't that what you
expect from me? I'm just such a funny guy.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
Now, before the coven can really react to what they've heard,
Billy finds the clue to the riddle, which is Lorna
Alice's mom's record version of the Battle of the Road.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
He puts it on the record player.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
It spins backwards, emitting like these kind of like demonic voices,
and they've all been cursed by the demon. A metronome
starts counting, and the time trial has begun, and all
of them are terrified, except for Rio, who.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Is like loving it. He was having a great thing.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Alice feels like weirdly lighter, but Lilia immediately begins to burn.
Jen uses Rio's knife to cleanse the effects, and the
coven begins talking about, well, how do we get this
curse all of us because they're all going to have
to face this thing. Alice is then struck by the burning,
(10:19):
and then Jendre's another circle and this goes on and on,
and then they look and they have the they have
these burn scars on their bodies. Agatha realizes that the
curse actually comes from Alice, who brought it into the
house with them. She's always been cursed, and Alice knew
this on some level. She says, like, I didn't think
(10:39):
that was real.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Yeah, she just thought that her mom was crazy, because
that's why everyone crazy talking about whatever this was.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
And she has like an older version, like a much
like a year's old version of the scar on her,
and it's this generational curse that's been passed down. Bad
stuff is continuing to happen. Billy is thrown through the
studio glass, at which point we should mention that Agatha
is very emotional about Billy in a way that feels
(11:11):
heightened from what we've seen in the past. She cares
about him very clearly in a way that's surprising.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
Yeah, I think this is I do think that.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
I just want to say, I do think it's really
important too, because we will get to something later that
kind of seems to confirm.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Our theory and throw away some other theories.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
But I also find it interesting because I do think
that the Agatha that we saw in wonder Vision was
connected to the kids, was there for a long time
with them, does have her own love, probably for Wonder's
kids as well as obviously the version that we will
learn here where it seems like she thinks that maybe
he's Nick Scratch and that's why he's been, you know,
(11:51):
had the sigel put on.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
So they begin to play Alice's mom's version. It's so
the Ballad of the Road, So it's time to jam.
Everybody jumps on an instrument. It is a Gen on bass,
Billy on acoustic guitar, Lilia and Agatha on vocals, and
Rio on drums, and Alice keys.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
And obviously we have to mention here the fantastic Patilopone,
who says the only instruments she could ever play with Zill's.
So every time they go back to her, aside from
having her on supporting bass, you will see her she
has a different instrument every time.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
A triangle, a xylophone, little symbols. It is so funny.
And also everyone who's worried.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
That they're not gonna let Broadway superstar Patylopone do a
version of the song, don't worry, like we know, Like
I haven't seen past this episode, but I know she's
gonna get to do a version, and I also want
to say, yeah, please, I just want to say quickly,
you know this is They say this is the cheapest
Marvel TV show they've ever made, But I want to say,
you know what, they does not It does not look
(13:16):
it does not look like it.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
And also, you know what they didn't skimp on. They
didn't skimp on the song.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
They knew this song was gonna have to be in
every single episode and you were gonna have to want
to keep hearing it.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
So they were like, you know what we'll do. We'll
get the.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Guys who wrote let it Go. We'll go to the
Frozen guys. So I know that a good part of
the budget was spent on the song, and I appreciate
that because every single time I hear it, it's a banger.
I'm not sick of it. Beautiful, I'm singing it all
the time. And this is my favorite version so far,
but I'm excited to see other versions.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
It's got like a Fleetwood mac Yes, the Muppet Show
kind of feeling very Muppet Show.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
I like I could see the Muppets playing this like absolutely.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Beautiful harmonies and like kind of bombastic.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
And yet a little bit of Elton John. It's like,
it's so good this version.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
And as they're playing, you know, flames start to come
out of the walls and a blade suddenly appears out
of Billy's like lower abdomen. He's been scabbed, but he's
continuing to play. Flames or growing as the music reaches
his peak, and then the demon is there and it's
super gross.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
It's disgusting, and I'm sorry guys, very many, I want
to say so many people online who you know, I
appreciate them continuing the agenda, but many people in the.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
Trailer they thought it was Mephisto. It's not. It's just
it's just Alice's cursed demon.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
And he's really gross and fantastic practical effects. Big fan
of this very horful fact season.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Yes, my fist so much more handsome than this.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Yeah, he's not this, and he and he's like he's
like a charming fellow. He's not just like a screaming demon,
you know, so, but yes, this is fantastic.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Alice amps up her singing in her emotion while she's
singing the ballad, and the demon then lands on her shoulders.
It kind of like the peak of the song and
it's trying to kill her and like shove its talons
through her shoulder blades, but she like really just hits
(15:18):
a hits a crescendo, and the demon burns up, burst
into flames and is gone. The piano opens, it's a
grand piano opens up, and the way forward for the
road appears, but Billy.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
Has collapsed because he's been stabbed by this thing.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
They carry him out, they pull the blade from him
as they're out there in the on the road, you know,
with the woods all around them.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Agatha is distraught.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
She is like so Mary upset for someone who didn't
really care about this kid.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
Like she is really upset.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
And also we get a great moment here where we
see Jen who thinks she's bound and doesn't have these.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
But she cast this spell using just moonlight and you know, water,
and she heals them. And I think we're getting to
the truth here, which is like Jen probably wasn't bound,
She's probably just traumatized by whatever that spooky doctor did
to her in the past.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
And Lilya says in a very wonderful moment, like look
what you did, Like there's this wonderful moment where she
recognizes the power of what she has done. Jen then
says it talks about the man that bound her and
how she thought of herself as more of a midwife
and she was lured to this like midwife meeting by
(16:38):
a guy who essentially ruined her magic. They're all talking
now about the thing that haunts them as witches, and
Alice talks about her mom and how mad she was
at her and that it kept her from really believing
in her mom's mission and the road and now she's
much more sad than angry at her, and Lilya points
(17:00):
out what that's sad is better than mad. Lily says,
the worst part of being a witch is all the
bad connotations of evil, spooky person, you know, like, yeah,
the bad pr Meanwhile, Agatha is kind of off by
herself watching over Billy, and Billy wakes up and Agatha
immediately goes back to pretending that she didn't care about Billy.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
I don't care about it.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
Yeah, who's this guy?
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Billy asks if Agatha placed the sigil on him. She denies.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
She denies it, but points out that if she did
put the sigil on him, she wouldn't necessarily remember because
this when you cast a sigil, it affects the person
who cast it and the person it's cast upon, so
it's not necessarily given that she would even recall casting
it if she did, and then sigils can't be lifted.
(17:53):
They actually have to be destroyed, but only when they
are no longer necessary. This is a warm moment between
the two of them. Billy takes the opportunity to ask
about Agatha's son Nick, and she says, nothing.
Speaker 4 (18:05):
Happened to him? Did you really swoop him for the
dark cold? She's got nothing to say.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
I think we're meant to hear wonder if Billy who
By the way, we're only calling Billy because we assaying
that he is Billy Wickan. But I think we're meant
to wonder if she if he is her son at
this point.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Oh, I definitely think so. I've seen a lot of
theories about that.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
I think that that's the duality they want you to have,
is like, wow, is this She's been holding this rabbit
that she thought was a transmute.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
It's done all the time.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
But actually here comes this boy who's kind of gothic,
who is kind of sassy, who wants to get power,
who doesn't remember he is maybe this could be her somebody.
I think we get It depends how much you trust Rio,
but I think we do get quite a definitive answer
in the next kind of And in the final moments
of this.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Episode, there's this fun like just hang out chat moment
Lily's talking about, oh, I thought a vampire ones, and
it's also very clear that they were in a relationship
like it was.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Has vampires guys.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
She then has another one of these out of time
episodes that again she doesn't realize she's having. The coven
then asks Agatha, let's see your battle scar. She shows
a scar on her elbow, which she says it's a
knitting needle, which was a result of her fight with
the Daughters of Liberty, and she's like, do anybody remember
(19:28):
the Daughter's Liberty? And they're like no, and she's like, exactly, Rosie,
who are the Daughters of Liberty?
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Let's talk about this because this is actually like, very
very interesting.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
So I want to say, like, nothing in.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
These shows is ever a coincidence, right, And actually the
team specifically behind uh Agatha all Along is the one
division team who have put in some of the best,
weirdest easter eggs that we've ever had.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
I want to say, first of all, I do think this.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Is a duel play here, because in seventeen sixty five
there was a group called the Daughters of Liberty who
were like anti British colonists, and they were you know,
she mentions a knitting needle. They were known for like
spinning and wearing their own homespun clothing. So I think
we're supposed to think that is she just talking about
(20:17):
this historical group, But seeing as we remember them, it
is unlikely that she is talking about the real group,
because she says anyone remember them, And this is probably
a reference to an original iteration of a very weird
Marvel team called Daughters of Liberty, who first appeared in
twenty nineteen's Captain America number seven and were created by
Tanahsi Coats and Adam Kuber. What a fucking creative team,
(20:40):
and they're basically like a female focused team that works
alongside Captain America. Also, very interestingly here, they were actually
proceeded in the comics by a group called the Daughters
of Light, who worked in the eighteenth century Europe and
preached free and one of their leaders was beheaded, So
(21:04):
I think that we're getting something there. And also, like
Agatha Harkness trained them in the comics of how to
use magic, and I think that this is kind of
an implication here that they have existed in Agatha's well,
or maybe she will take that as an inspiration to
as Jason kind of mentioned beforehand, maybe this will become
(21:26):
the Daughters of Liberty.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
I think that this group will become the Daughters of Liberty.
As Marvel continues to expand it's kind of magic spooky verse,
Rio then says, well, I got to show you my scar.
And she talks about a relationship that she had that
went bad because of something that she had to do
(21:48):
for her job. She wanted to continue in this relationship,
but because of her job, she couldn't. And then she
says of this person that we don't know who that is,
but we do says she is my scar. After this,
Rio and and it's so gay. It's immediately confirmed.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
In the very next scene, have a private.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
Conversation and guess what they were lovers? Very clearly they
were in love at one time. They embrace, they almost kiss,
but then Rio shatters the moment by saying, Agatha that
boy meaning Billy again the teen that boy, and then
Agatha walks away and we get the credits again confirming
(22:35):
as you said that this is wand is kid probably
let's say probably not Nick's probably yeah, probably not, because
they are in.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
This heartwarming kind of moment, and it feels like Rio
wouldn't just randomly use this as like an emotional kind
of twist, you know. And I will say, look, there
was some talk in the discord that us calling him
Billy may be a little bit spoilery. This is more
of a theory on our part and it's much easier
(23:07):
and calling him teen.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
We don't know who he is gonna be, but it
does seem pretty likely. Air quotes Billy.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
Also, if you have read the Young Avengers comics, but
especially the Kuran Gillan jan Jamie McKelvey comics, he is
very wick and coded. We are supposed to think that
it could be another Ralph Bonus style fake out. So
we don't know if he's Billy, but it does feel
like it, and it's easier than just saying teen all
(23:35):
the time. And you know what, I am loving this
representation of maybe or maybe not Billy. I think he's
a very sweet guy, and I'm also very interested. Okay,
what about this, This is my theory. What if Billy
put the sigil on himself so that he would be
able to act naive and because he wants to he
wants to put the sigel on himself so that he
(23:56):
can get his mum back, but he needs to work
with Agatha, and he can't let her know that he's
like obviously like furious and vitual because.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
She loves his theory. I love that theory, and I think.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
I think that's pretty. I'm like pretty, I think that
I think the.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Important thing that you've hit on is what does everybody
want at the end of the road. That's going to
be a huge part of where this story goes. I
think Agatha clearly wants her son back.
Speaker 4 (24:22):
In some way, wants definitely goes Billy, what.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Does he want?
Speaker 1 (24:26):
I love the idea. I love that idea. Right wants
Agatha back maybe or wants to solve the thing between
them and then the rest of the coven in some
want some variation of power exactly.
Speaker 4 (24:49):
Jen wants to be unbound Alice.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
It seems like has actually achieved the thing that she wanted,
which was to kind of break this generational cost which
I love that they did by like teaming up and
playing music that's very cute. And I want to read
all the think pieces about how female friendship can help
you break generational trauma because I love that. So yeah,
I think that it's going to be very interesting to
(25:12):
see where it goes next. And I personally I'm loving
the kind of like trial of the week setup.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
I think it's a really smart setup. I think it's
very fun.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
We've had Jen who's our potion, so she had the
water task, We've had Alice with the fire task, so
it's going to be interesting to see what comes next.
I would generally say like Earth, but I feel like
Rio is a green witch, is not going to be
the next person who has to do the trial. That
feels like it would be longer in the future. So
I'm definitely interested to see where we go next as
(25:46):
this series continues. Very exciting, very exciting. I want to
say one thing, small thing please. Alice talks about how
she realizes that she was cursed. She has a generational
curse and it's the reason why she can hold a job,
and while she was working at Hot Topic when we
meet her, that's crazy.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
It's crazy.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
I know, I might.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
Tell it's a good job for someone.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
Is a good job.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
Don't feel if you're working in a hot topic right now,
don't feel that working there is something that would that
would only occur to someone who has been magically cursed
by a demon.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
That's actually and also I will say, you know what,
but she is a security guard at a hot topic.
So like, morally and ethically, not that you're better off
being like work behind the till then then you you know,
do that live that life.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
But yeah, hilarious, hilarious topics a good job.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
I'm very I patronize hot topic often, so you know
I need you guys to keep working that night.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
You welcome to.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
Cheat Code, where we talk about all things gaming, games
and gameplay. I am tapping in our Nintendo expert Aaron
Wong Kaufman, super producer, to talk about the new Zelder game,
Zelder Echoes of Wisdom.
Speaker 7 (27:21):
Thank you, Rosie. But I think first we should talk
about something very exciting this week.
Speaker 3 (27:27):
Yes, I am very excited to talk about this with you.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
As you guys, we've.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Been teasing a little bit, but we are going to
start releasing new episodes of xtra Vision under the Moniker
xtra Vision Extras, which will be occasional bite sized episodes,
sometimes deep dive episodes from Me, Jason, Joel, Aaron.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
Abou Carmen. It's going to be the whole slate. Sometimes
me and Jason.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Will be on there, sometimes we won't, And we're going
to be covering all kinds of great things with Aaron
and Aboo starting off with something that I know is
going to really excite the discord.
Speaker 7 (28:02):
Yeah, So tomorrow will be the first episode of Extras,
which will feature you interviewing Jason and Joel about possibly
the highest grossing movie of all time I think Joker, Yes, yes, yes,
I don't know if I read those numbers incorrectly, Pollia,
duh right. So that will be tomorrow's episode, And then
(28:23):
next week, Aboo and I will be doing a rewatch
of Arcane season one in anticipation for season two coming
out next month amazing. If you haven't watched it, now
is the perfect time to get into it, or if
you did watch it and just want to recap. Next Wednesday,
we will be going through episodes one, two, and three Magical.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
I'm really excited about this, and yeah, and if you
are in the discord, if you want to join the discord,
hit us up. Let us know what you wish we
could cover that we haven't had time to cover before.
Because this is going to be a fun expansion of
X ray, and the time that we have to talk
about all the things that we.
Speaker 7 (28:59):
Love, it's just another chance, more chance, chances to talk
about more things. There's so much stuff out there, right.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Exactly, There's so much stuff, and we're excited to talk
about it all.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
So yeah, very stoked for that.
Speaker 7 (29:13):
So, speaking of more things to talk about, I think
we should talk about the new Zelda game, Echoes of Wisdom,
which is, as many people know, it's the first legend
of Zelda game where you actually get to play a Zelda.
And I'm going to say something about the game, and
I want to preface it that this is not because
it's Zelda, like, it doesn't matter who you're playing with.
(29:34):
This is an incredibly cozy Zelda game. Yeah, so, Rosie,
I think, yes, you will love this game.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
I'm very excited about it.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
It looks like it looks like Nintendo saw what a
massive hit Animal Crossing was and was like, how can
we instill that into other games.
Speaker 7 (29:52):
Yeah, so they did maybe two years ago or something,
they remade Links Awakening, which was a game Boy game.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
I love that and.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
It was beautiful.
Speaker 7 (30:01):
I loved the design and like, it's also the same look.
Echoes of Wisdom is the same look is that it's
the same studio that made it. But Echoes of Wisdom
clearly pulls in a lot of the lessons and influence
that they had with Tiers of the Kingdom. With Tiers
of the Kingdom is so like almost Roebloxy, where you're
building stuff and you're binding things together and oh look
(30:23):
at I know how to make a wheel and a board,
and now I can make a car. And then people
are making pizza ovens and like mech robots with lasers
and everything. So yes, they were making things completely inappropriate to.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Be showing on a true that's true.
Speaker 7 (30:42):
So Echoes of Wisdom is kind of like that, but
on a smaller level. So you the premise of the game,
Zelda has a staff and can copy echoes. So anytime
you beaten enemy, you get their echo. Not bosses, but
any like Moblin or any you know, Octorock or anything
you beat and then you get its echo and you
can summon it, so you have a limited amount of
(31:03):
summoning power. You can't just like fill the screen with bats,
but you could make a bug nest and then the
bug nest can just start spewing out little bugs to
fight your enemies.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
Oh I love that. That's so cute.
Speaker 7 (31:17):
But it also lets you copy items and so, like
the funniest thing. One of the first things you learn
as a bed just called old.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
Bed and that's very animals, yes.
Speaker 7 (31:29):
Yes, and very Zelda like in Mostelda game's link wakes
up and he's like in his room by himself with
a bed.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
And and he's wearing his old armor as well, and
he has to then upgrade as he goes.
Speaker 7 (31:40):
And in this one, like one of the first things
you learn is you can use beds to basically make
a staircase. So you just put a bed down and
then you stand on one side of the bed and
put another bed on top of it, and you jump
up and you put another bed, so you're like you're
you're crossing these paths and holes just walk on beds.
It's the wildest silly thing, but it's like the perfect intro.
(32:04):
Another thing you can do with beds is heel. So
one of the reasons I feel like this is a
good cozy game. It's not the hardest and I really
enjoy that. So, like, there will be boss fight. There
have been boss fights where I hid from the boss,
summoned a bed and slept to heal. So like I
just avoided that. I'm just like in the corner sleeping
(32:26):
in the middle of boss fight. Yeah, you can also. Yeah,
it's it's like a very fun gimmick and like you
can trap the boss so that you're safe and then
you just go to sleep. It's like it's also like
in the age of some video games won't let you pause,
you know, if it's an online game, if it's multiplayer,
this obviously will let you pause, but it will also
(32:48):
let you just sleep, which is like just a level
above pausing. Yeah, you can also like use in Link
to the Past, the Superintendent one there the flying set
and tiles that like they come up out of the ground,
they spin around and then they shoot at you. Well,
once you kill those, you can summon those. So I
have used those to just like cross bottomless pits. I
(33:11):
just make a little tile and it circles around and
I ride it over to the next platform or something. Yeah,
but then like some some more like the really silly
things you can do, and I have barely scratched the surface.
I've seen videos of people doing really elaborate things where
like you bind yourself to a creature and like it
propels you to the next thing and you just get
further and further. But like I have, one of the
(33:34):
things you can do that's not really a spoiler is
you can get the ability to summon a block of water.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
Which just lets you swim through.
Speaker 7 (33:41):
But you could also you could also bind an enemy
which is like ultrahand in Tears of the Kingdom and
drag them into the water and drown them.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
And they just cruel. But you know sometimes, yes.
Speaker 7 (33:55):
There are so many traps, like you can set up
a spike bit and drop an enemy into the spike pit.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
There's like you get like.
Speaker 7 (34:03):
A wind turbine and you can just have it facing
enemies and you can drop bombs into it and it
just shoots bombs at the enemies. It's a very silly,
creative game. And like unlike other Zelda's where I feel
like you are so focused on the sword, the bow
and arrow, the boomerang in this game, it's it's almost
(34:25):
more fun. You have the ability to summon the sword
and use the sword for a little bit of combat,
like you have a time limit on how long you
can use it, and then it refills, and it's good.
I've used it a few times, but it's more fun
to me to be sitting there and just be like, well,
what would be the silliest way to beat this boss?
I could summon a shark to join me, or I
(34:47):
could summon a bunch of piranha plants and have them
like trying to drag them into the boss or something.
So it's a lot of really funny game.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (34:56):
Yeah, it's like the funniest Selda.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
That I found.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Very hopeful about this with you because I still haven't
had a chance to play it, but I really love
that it almost is becoming kind of it's being welcomed
in the way that I saw Godzilla Kong the New
Empire be welcomed, like two months after Minus one, which
was obviously one of the greatest Godzilla films of all time,
(35:21):
incredibly serious, and then we got Godzilla Kong New Empire
and it was very silly and over the top, and
Godzilla's you know, sleeping in the coliseum and like a
little cat. But what I'm loving is I feel like
audiences are embracing all kinds of storytelling within the same world.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
Because this move.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
This game was like very very well reviewed. It's like
eighty three percent on Metacritic. IGN gave it a nine
out of ten, and I love that even the reviews
that I'm seeing where it's more of a seven out
of ten, people are like, this is a fantastic game.
Sure it's not, you know, Tears of the Kingdom, but
we can still enjoy both things in the same world.
(35:59):
And I think for a is like Zelda that did
start so many years ago and for many of us
was a more simplistic gameplay style.
Speaker 4 (36:07):
I think it's really fun that they're doing both and the.
Speaker 7 (36:13):
Cozy yeah, like Breath of the Wild Tears of the
Kingdom are enormous games and for some people, myself included,
I still have not finished Tears of the Kingdom because
I spent so much time playing it and by the
end of like I hadn't finished, and I was like,
I've played this a lot. I'm gonna play something else
for a little bit. Whereas Echoes of Wisdom feels like
I'll finish this. It's more of a bite sized thing.
(36:38):
It's got a lot of really funny.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
Parts to it.
Speaker 7 (36:40):
But like, like you're saying, Zelda, Legends of Zelda can
exist in multiple paths. You know, your favorite band. Not
all their songs are upbeat, some of them are ballots,
some of them are long, some of them are short.
And that's the magic of like liking something that you
can like it in multiple ways and have different investments
(37:02):
in each one and still enjoy it, which I like.
And so this is a really great follow up to
Tiers of the Kingdom because it's not Tears of the Kingdom.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Yeah, Like they can't replicate that so quickly anyway, because
those games take, you know, years to.
Speaker 4 (37:19):
Build and make.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Also, I will say, if you're someone who's like, oh,
you know, sixty dollars, that's a lot for a game, especially,
as Aaron said, a shorter game.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
I will say I am a.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
Big proponent of the Nintendo game vouchers, where you basically
pay one hundred dollars at the Nintendo Digital Store and
then you can get two games for the equivalent of
fifty dollars each. So this seems like a great contender
for that. If you haven't played other Zelda games, Tiers
of the Kingdom is included in that.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
That is how I got it for myself.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
So that's a good way to kind of explore a
game where you might want to not put the full
sixty in but you still want to give it a
try and you want to save money. I love saving money,
so yeah, I'm a big big game voucher proponent, Ana Aaron,
This sounds so wonderful. I'm very excited to try out
and then text you and be like, this is wonderful
and cozy.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
I love it because it sounds like my dream game.
Speaker 7 (38:09):
Yeah, I'm excited to find out what your favorite echoes
will be, you know, like, maybe you're gonna be a
big fan of the Armadillo or maybe you're like.
Speaker 4 (38:16):
Actually sounds like me, honestly, Rosie, thanks.
Speaker 7 (38:21):
For having me. I'm excited to hear the three of
you talk Joker tomorrow afternoon.
Speaker 4 (38:26):
Oh yeah, it's gonna be really fun. Joel and Jason
are hilarious as always.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
That's it for today's episode.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Next week, we're back with more coverage of the Penguin
and agathall A long plus some Halloween extra stuff.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
Thanks for listening.
