Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi. I'm Kelly Rutherford. I play Lily vander Woodson and
you're watching It's a wonderful Lie. Welcome back, listeners to
your one and only source into all things gossip. G Crow.

(00:23):
You know you love it. XO x O Hi everyone,
welcome back to XO XO with me Jessica's or Today
we are back with our rewatches and coming in hot
for the coolest constant event of the season, the snow
Flake Ball. This is a huge episode all around. Blair
and Chuck realized they're perfect for each other, Vanessa gets

(00:44):
humiliated in that transparent dress, and Lily decides to end
her marriage before getting a devastating phone call. And speaking
of Lily, we couldn't break down this week's episode without
our guests, the magical Kelly Rutherford. Kelly, Yes, Hi, how

(01:14):
are you? I'm well? How were you doing? I'm doing.
I'm doing good. We're like in the middle of the
mountains and you should see how I have my studio
set up right now. It's just wild. So I'm like
finding it so hilarious. But wait, where are you in London?
I'm in London. I'm I'm in London for a few
days and I'm going to go to Paris, so I'm

(01:35):
traveling to I just don't even have my headphones with me.
So this worked out good. I went here, I just
got on the shower. I'm sure you look beautiful as
always perfect. Oh I'm so happy we're doing this, but
I'm also loved that you're in London. You were Where
were you when you did your first episode? I was
in Geneva, Geneva, Okay, yep. You know what's so funny,

(01:57):
My old like family friend daughter was in London walking
around and I don't know, maybe it was Paris, but
all of a sudden she saw she ran into ed
like outside of a Rolling Stone concert. So I found
that so funny. This was just like a couple days ago,
and she sent me a picture. I'm like, this is
so wild. Oh yeah, so she must have been in
London because they've been performing in Hyde Park. Yeah, okay,

(02:20):
then that's what it was. Yeah. Are you going to
see him maybe? Or yeah? Yeah? Actually I just um,
I've been texting with him a little bit, but I
haven't had a chance to see him. I think he's
been busy and I've been actually in the countryside, so
I haven't even really been in London, like London proper, right, yea.

(02:42):
How beautiful is the countryside there? Oh my god, the
Cotswalds are so incredibly beautiful. You know, I've lived in
cities my whole life, and just to be out there
is it's beyond I mean, it's it's it's right, it is.
It's just a completely different in universe happening. At one time.
You know, we're like people running around like lunatics, and

(03:05):
then you go out there and like everyone's just like cool,
it's easy. You know, it's very like there's like sheep
and cows and you're like, oh my god, I love this.
It's like a good Rechards too. Oh you're making me
want to come there, come visit. I will. I really
do need to make that happen. I every time, like

(03:26):
we're texting or what like, I went back and listen
to our episode or when I'm watching these episodes, You're
just you have such a good way about you. I
know I said this the first time, and I know
I tell you this when we talk and stuff, but
you really truly do it. Like it like made my
whole like week knowing that we had this coming up
because You're just you're just such a good vibe. It's

(03:47):
like very very beautiful. Thank you. Well, I've been following
you on Instagram and staying in touch, and you're just
doing so many great things and I'm so proud of
all that you do. My god, I mean, watching you
do what you all did too, they'll really like showed
me you can do it. You can be a mom,

(04:09):
you can be an actor, you can travel and still
be like a good, wonderful person. So I'm watching you
do everything you've done kind of you know, gives me
that like, you can do it. You can do it,
just Kelly did it, and you make it look very
effortless because but yeah, well I'm super pumped that you're

(04:32):
here and we're doing this. So it's it's a wonderful
lie is what we're we watching everyone, And that is
based on the Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life in six,
starring James Stewart and Donna Reid, And uh, this has
nothing to do with Christmas or anything. Well snowflake ball,
I guess. But yeah, I had not seen this episode,

(04:54):
and it's it's great. Your your dynamic, your triangle is wild.
What goes on with Vanessa with Jenny is wild. Um.
But yeah, so let's let me say where we left
off and then let's get into it. Jenny moved back home,
and Vanessa is suspicious about her relationship with Nate and

(05:15):
that the vander Woodson's bart has upset h he has
the dossiers. And Serena and Aaron are dating exclusively, and
Blair and Chuck have agreed to continue their game. So
there this dossier situation. I can't wait to get into
that with you. But here's what this episode is, what
we're breaking down. So still toying with with one another,

(05:36):
Chuck and Blair make a bet to choose the perfect
date for each other for the annual Snowflake Ball. Meanwhile,
Aaron's ex girlfriend Lexie has come to town and decides
to pursue Dan, leaving Serena conflicted. Jenny seeks to revenge
on Vanessa, and Lily must make a choice. So there's

(05:56):
always so much in every episode. But first, okay, so
they're everyone's preparing for this ball and I always say
that in these episodes with the fashion and we always
have like some big party or dance or gala going on,
and this one is is the Snowflake Ball. When you
were in high school, do you remember like dances and

(06:18):
what you wore and were you very into like the
themes or were you did you go like where something
simple or very dramatic? Like what what? What was your situation?
Did you go to dances? Did you not a little bit?
Like I went a little bit, you know, I got
into fashion kind of later. I was kind of a tomboy.
I didn't really wear makeup or care so much about

(06:40):
all that stuff. I mean I did, but like dad,
but I wasn't into sort of having to get dressed
up and go somewhere, do you know what I mean?
I think living in New York all those years, it
was a big deal, like you know, whether you know,
while we were doing Gossip Girl, there were so many
events that I went to and there was all you know,

(07:01):
there was always something to get dressed up for, some
event to go to in New York. So but you know,
before that, I don't know I was I would go,
you know, I would go to like right then, but
it wasn't really I don't know. I think a lot
some people really like all that stuff. I don't care
a right right as much now it's more fun. Or

(07:24):
when we were doing Gossip l it was fun because
we were living in New York and there was just
so much available, you know, going on. Yeah, for sure,
I can't believe like every night there was some sort
of dinner or opening up a store or fashion week
something or you know, per years it was. It was
a lot, and then we were working on top of it. Yeah,

(07:44):
but it was interesting and it was so easy to
get to, Like everything just seemed a lot easier there,
Like it just was exactly accessible and easier, and it
just was a part of your life totally versus before
that it was just like okay, yeah, here and there
there'd be a special dance or a thing and people
would go, but just different, very different energy totally. In

(08:05):
high school when when we had like dances, like we
actually had one of it was like a snowflake theme,
and I was kind of It's weird because I wasn't
ever really into fashion, Like the Gossip Girl world kind
of opened my eyes to it a lot more. I mean,
I always liked liked fashion, but I didn't know that world.
Like I got to know really about all these designers

(08:26):
and all that stuff through the show. But when I
would go to dances in high school, Kelly, I would
like fully like do the theme, like if it was snowflake,
like a snowflake thing, I would wear like a white
dress with like snowflakes, but like very cool looking and artsy.
It was wild. I would always go for the theme
and it was really quite I committed. Yes, But that's

(08:50):
not like when I think, I'm like, that's so weird,
because I was never that girl that was like into yeah,
like fashion that way at the time. But it's not
so much fashion. And I think it's just like an expression,
like like you're saying, it's more of a theme, like
you have Halloween. You know, people get dressed up your
best to sort of fulfill that thing, you know. I
think it's just it's a themed party. I don't think

(09:13):
it has you so much about fashion. Is it just
the theme? You know? The most creative with that theme. Yeah.
I remember one was like an enchanted forest and I
like wore this dress that kind of looked like part
of a tree. Yeah, like camouflage. Oh my god, We're

(09:34):
like okay, right, oh wait, god, um, I want to
ask your opinion on this. We have Serena who goes
on a double date. It's Serena and Aaron, who she's dating,
the artist. I don't know if you remember this, but
he's he comes on and he is like dating multiple women,
and I was feeling like when I was watching that,

(09:54):
I'm like, that's so weird to me because that's not
the Serena that I'm watching that I would think, like,
so Na would be okay with her guy dating a
bunch of people, and then he turns around and only
wants to be with Serena. He's like, I'm gonna I'm
gonna be a one woman man now, And I'm like, okay,
here we go. That's sweet. That worked, Yeah, it did.

(10:15):
She didn't even really have to do anything. It was
just like such a severe psychology exactly. She knew what
she was doing all along. Um. Serena and Dan have
this like funny I feel like they just truly, deep down,
really still care about each other at this point, even
though they're both like trying to date other people and
be friends. There's like an underlining like you can always

(10:37):
feel this like not tension, but like definitely like I
think there's just still feelings there for them. Yeah, But
then it's so funny to me because they're having this
dynamic and then it'll like flash to the Snowflake Dance
and you're dancing with Rufus. I'm like, wait, their kids
are kind of on a double date right now. I know.
There's a lot of with that with like yeah, and

(11:00):
it Pen's character too. Yeah, there were always these kind
of things going on. Well, that's but that's her thing too.
Write that was her choice, that those were her choices.
She was with him, but then there were all these
other choices around her, but they always sort of really
loved each other. Yeah, yeah, it's it is. It's hard.
I mean relationships, you know, especially if you really genuinely

(11:23):
care for someone, even if you're not meant to be
with them, you still what do you do with the
love you still have for them? You know. It's an
interesting you know, because you can love different people, but
that doesn't mean that day to day you're right for
each other. Yeah. I've had that conversation with friends before
about you know, you know, there's people that you can
fall madly in love with, but that doesn't mean they're

(11:44):
going to they're the best partner for you in your life. No, absolutely,
you know, and then you end up with somebody that
is a great partner in your life. But that doesn't
mean that you didn't love these other people or that
you don't still have you know, that you don't feel
something when you're with them, or it is to interesting
it is And I feel like too in the show,
like there's so much going on with all these relationships

(12:07):
and triangle love triangles and then just like the life
that's going on, do you know what I mean? Like
it's like Lily being a mom with you know, two
kids in high school and then juggling her feelings between
Bart and Rufus and you know, trying to be a
great step mom to Chuck and Serena, figuring out like

(12:27):
her whole situation with Aaron and her feelings for Dan
and trying to get into school. It's there they just
like did they just did such a good job with
like showing the struggles in life, even though it was
in this like set in this world that like most
people don't get because there's only a small percentage of
people that live on the Upper East Side and see

(12:48):
that world like that. Um, but I think they did
a good job in the sense of like showing the
life struggles and everything that goes on in that world,
do you know what I mean? Like, you don't have
to live on the Upper East Side to understand what
heartbreak is or understand you know, a mixed family. You know.
So I think that was right. I think it's universal.
I think all these things that we dealt with on

(13:10):
Gossip girlers are really universal. And to see you know, okay, yeah,
the clothes may have been this, and the backdrop may
have been that, but it really all of the things
that we experienced our universal on the show, which was
so cool. Whether you have money, you don't have money, right,
it's still the same. And what I love was sort
of the expanded you on these relationships and that they

(13:32):
weren't made to be perfect or to be cookie cutter
at all. And that's what's so great is they you
felt like in your own life how unexpected and sort
of crazy things can be. You felt that ride on
the show with these people, and even with the parents.
You know, you don't normally see that side of parents portrayed,

(13:55):
you know, in that way either, So it was it
was really nice to see the the two parallels. Yeah. Um,
in this episode, Lily's really upset with Bart with this
Dussie like having these Yeah, do you remember the Andrew
Tyler part of this episode where's the it's the p

(14:17):
I But basically Bart tells you he's fired the beIN
done and then you see that that there's like an
invoice for Andrew Tyler, so you put it together and
then you called to tell him not to come to
the ball. Can you imagine in life someone having like
a private investigate and like having all these these files

(14:37):
about your past in your history, Like when this stuff
was going on, I'm like, yes, it's a TV show
and YadA, YadA, YadA, But I'm like, wait, I'm gonna
sit and like process this for a minute. Like if
I'm dating Brad and all of a sudden I find
out he has someone following me and he has like
a file on some stuff that I maybe haven't told
him yet or we haven't talked about, I would be like, yeah,

(14:58):
I don't think we can be together. Yeah, because it's
very violent. I feel it would feel violating. I feel like, yeah, yeah,
I think I think there's certain people in the world
that work that way, you know. I think they want
a certain level of control or to know things, or
to have things on other people, and you know, there's
definitely people out there that do that, you know. But

(15:23):
at the same time, I think it's where does it
ultimately leave? Right, Everyone's got stuff everyone, and and then
where's the trust? Even if even if they do find things,
it's like, where does it end up? You know, you
end up where's the trust? Then it's gone, right, That's
what I mean. Yeah, Yeah, I just was like, oh, Bart,
come on, don't do that. That's so a Bard thing though,

(15:44):
that's totally a Bart thing he would do first, Oh
my god. But and then how do you feel the
relationship with him and Chuck? You know, I think it's
it's such an interesting dynamic to be a step parent.
So that's what was fascinating to me is her love
of you know, Ed's character and the father. At the

(16:07):
same time, I think she felt very protective of him,
knowing who his father is, right right, you know, because
of what she dealt with with the dad. She knows
that the son has dealt with all of this stuff.
So I think she just felt very you know, loving
and protective towards him. Yeah, And I always I feel
like Chuck really cares and loves Lily like he always Yeah,

(16:33):
I just any scene where he like calls Bart to
tell him something or goes to you, I like feel
And I thought Ed always played that really well because
it always now when I'm watching, it's always like pulling
out my heart. I'm like, oh my gosh, he loves
Lily so much, and I think it's so cute, like
your da you guys is dynamic. Yeah. I love working
with Ed. He's such a wonderful actor. I mean, he
brought so much to that role, and you know, it

(16:56):
just made it so much fun to work with him.
You know. I was always loved dar scenes together because
you know, you could really get in and play and
really go there, you know. Yeah. So Vanessa has this

(17:19):
like chemistry vibe with Nate. Then all of a sudden,
Jenny sort of has something going on with Nate and
Vanessa is supposed to kind of or in the in
this triangle. Jenny's like upset with her that she went
behind her back. And but I'm having a hard time
when I'm watching all these episodes because I'm like, Vanessa

(17:41):
was kind of seeing Nate first. So the fact that
she's like tiptoeing and feeling bad for Jenny is. That's
nice because that's Vanessa's heart and that's her friend, and
she's not wanting this guy to come between them. But
I'm watching it and I'm like, where does Jenny even
get off? Where is she coming from? Like Vanessa was
there first. I always just back for Vanessa because she
gets the short end of the stick. And I'm like, yeah.

(18:04):
And then Vanessa goes to do the right thing and
tell Nate about the letter because Nate wrote Jenny this
letter and Vanessa saw it at the Humphrey Loft and
took it and and Jenny never got it, which was
not right at all. I don't agree with that, but
I do like that she'd stepped up to the plate
to go and tell the truth. Yes I do. I'm like, Okay, Vanessa,

(18:28):
there you go. But when she got walks into this
ball and and she has the sea through dress and Kelly,
I was like, can you imagine that moment being with
a spotlight the light shining and everyone's laughing and they're
taking their phones out. I'm like, I was watching this
last night and I'm like, wait, today, that would have

(18:51):
been all over the internet. Yeah, we're on on the show.
People were taking their photos like it was ahead of
its time because they were still all take in the photos.
But back then they did were you know, I guess
it was going on the blog on gossip they could
share with each other, but they didn't. There was no
place like Instagram to share it or you you know,
TikTok or YouTube in the same way that that there

(19:14):
was then. Yeah. Yeah, it was so ahead. Yeah even now,
like there's shows that I watched and I think, oh,
please God, let me come do the costumes, like, right,
what are you wearing? Yeah, because it's like, oh, I
can help you with this. I'm really good, Like because
Gossip Girl was I mean for me it was heaven.
I was like, oh, finally you know they're using this

(19:34):
visual medium. I mean, Aaron Spelling did that so geniusly
with Melrose places. He would always say everyone has to
look I mean, like Chloe or makeup. It was important
because it's a visual medium and it has been such
an influence. And then to use it as an influence
because you know, there's shows today that I mean, yeah,

(19:56):
they're wonderful, well written, incredible shows. But if course I
always think, oh my god, you could have done that,
you know, a lot of the costume is kind of
still simpler, less of a thing, you know, unless it's
a fashion show like a Dynasty or a gossip, unless
it's sort of more fashion based. But I think you
could still do so much more with that today in

(20:18):
in shows. Yeah, I mean when I'm watching too, it's
just it's also because I feel like you, like when
you're saying you're watching something and saying like I could
come on and early, like go and help them out.
You have like a real like you're you are like
a fashionista on your own, like you always kind of
had that. Like Eric Damon and I talked about it
in his episode. He was like, she she just knows fashion.

(20:41):
She's like, He's like, Kelly just knows it, lives it
and breathe it without I don't think like trying. I
think that's it's just you just have really good taste
and you wear things well, and you look just very
like chic and classy and like on point. But I
think you always just had that. I just think it's
fun for me because it also in the same way,

(21:02):
just to kind of bring it around when you're dressing
for the for these events in high school or when
you're growing up. There's something about it creative and fun.
I think there's just an expression. It's just such a
beautiful way to express ourselves anyway. I love magazines. I've
always made vision boards. I think it comes from just
creating an aesthetic. Like and even when you know, I

(21:24):
was early on studying acting, I had a teacher that
we would do this exercise where we had to really
dress up like the character, right, because it makes such
a difference in how we feel as an actor in
terms of the believability of the character, in terms of
you know, what you're wearing. But yeah, I've always always
always loved fashion. I've always loved like magazines, and well, yeah,

(21:47):
I just think your style is so so on point.
I think, yeah, and it is true, like wearing certain
things like if I'm doing like a self tape or something,
and even though you don't see my feet, if like
a Arcter, if it calls like that, she'd wear heels
or something, I like, we'll wear them even if you
don't see them. Because it kind of even makes you
say say lines differently. I know that sounds I mean,

(22:09):
I know you get it, but I know that probably
sounds wild to people listening. But yeah, like wearing things
definitely can shift how you your performance. Yeah, a job interview,
people can relate. You know, if you dress up and
look nice for a job interview, you just feel more powerful,
you feel better. You know. It's like, I mean, my god,
even just what a shower does for us, Okay, let's

(22:30):
face it, Like anything you do that just sort of
you know, raises the bar of how you're feeling. And
you know, I think it really gives a mood. Like
there's so many different it's just so creative. I think
that's why you know, I started Sovereign Collective, you know,
over you know, when we were kind of locked down
is I just love emerging brands. I love new designers,

(22:52):
I love artisans. You know, it's just it's so fun
to discover, right, you know, and how we dress globally,
and like how different cultures dress and how they use
different fabrics to express themselves. It's just incredible to me.
You know, if you travel around you you know, obviously
you see it. If you go to Paris, you go

(23:12):
to you know, if even if you go to like France,
to Spain, to England, Asia, it's just fascinating how we
choose different ways to to dress and express ourselves. It's
really fun and it is funted. We really are like unlimited.
We get into sort of a okay, this is our
day to day uniform, and not many people go well,

(23:36):
lets some do, but you know, go beyond that, right, Yeah?
Do you remember what um was? Your dress? A vera wing?
It was probably very a wing because I wore a
lot of arrowing on. Yeah, and actually like looked it up. Yeah,
it is arwing. And I was like really emotional with
Rufus because I was like, oh no, what do I do?

(23:56):
This is like yeah, that was such a sweet dance too,
with the two of us. It was such a sweet
dance in the song. It gave me like I was
like tearing up my heart was like smiling. I'm I
had like a hard I like when you're with Bart
and I see you with Bart, I'm like, oh, I
love them together. And then when Rufus comes in and
you have like a dance like that and you can

(24:17):
fide in him like you're like I don't know what
I'm doing. Then I'm like, wait, maybe I want her
to be with Rufus. I have like a hard time. Yeah,
I mean, they're casting was amazing too, and and Bart
played as it was, just because I think we all
feel that way. You know, there's there's different people in
the world, and you could kind of, you know, if
you look at Lily and where she came from and
her family made more sense for her to be with Bart,

(24:40):
but yet she really was in love with Rufus. So
it's and at different times in your life, maybe different
choices make more sense. So I think that's where where
that's where the humanity was to me, and the writing
of it and the acting of it was. Is there
really one choice? Do you know what I mean? And
at different times in your life, different things are become

(25:01):
more important, you know, So absolutely, yeah, it's interesting. Yeah,
never black and white. It was always nuanced and and real. Yeah,
did you at that time, like when you when you're
playing you know, when you're doing these scenes with Matthew
and doing these scenes with Robert John Lily, who did
you want her to be with? Both? Right? Okay, Okay,

(25:26):
that's what I'm saying, because you see there's parts of
the relationship with Rufus where I'm like, oh God, they're
so good together. But then I really do like you
with Bart. I think it's personalities, you know, I think
there's a part of her, there's a part of her
personality that was very suited with Bart and his world,
and then there was a part of her that could
really be herself and decide that she didn't show to

(25:50):
everyone with Rufus. So you know, it's like, we have friends,
we have different people we've maybe dated in our life
and we feel that way. You know, there's certain friends
we could be more ourselves with, So why wouldn't there
be more, you know, certain romantic relationships that you feel
that way. There's people like that, Okay that would be
more appropriate for me. But that's what I love. So

(26:10):
I think made the show is so great is that,
you know, they really showed that the complications of things.
You know, it's not always that straightforward our lives. Absolutely, Yeah.
And then it's like so funny because this triangle that
that's going on, which I'm finding carries on a lot

(26:31):
in this in season two. I don't remember season three
and four, and obviously I'm not there yet. But and
then there's still the Chuck and Blair dynamic that they're
like still playing this game. Like in this episode, Blair
is trying to find Chuck a date, and Chuck's trying
to find her a date. They basically have these two
a girl that comes in looking just like Blair with

(26:52):
like the headband, and then another one that looks like Chuck,
and then they end up together. They don't end up
going to the dance with Charlay, And I'm like, that
is such a gossip girl like moment. They're like in
the hallway like making out. I'm like, what is going on?
They're was so good, so good, I mean, and so
clever and so fun, and I mean I just remember

(27:14):
getting the scripts and thinking this is so much fun
and so true to life. You know, there were moments
where we'd be rehearsing and one of the actors would say,
I would never say this, this is so like that,
and I said, oh, yes you would. I said, just
if somebody follows you around and listen to half the
stuff we said and talked about, you know, you wouldn't
believe it. You know, like he is much crazier than

(27:37):
anything ever written. And um, that's the fun part is
to say, yeah, these are the crazy things that happened,
and the funny things we're human nature is funny and
I love how they captured it on Gossip. They really did,
they did. They did. Um what um? Do you like

(27:58):
Serena with with Dan? Because they do this, they do
this dance where we're like at episode season two, episode twelve,
and they're still like lingers, like something's up, Like I
feel like they're definitely going to get back together. Um,
but how do you do you like them together? Or
do you want to see her not with Dan? It's
funny because I think as I've you know, as the

(28:19):
character saw her and make other choices, she actually probably
did like Dan more in the end because in the
beginning there was the whole thing about Rufus being involved
and me kind of wanting to distance from him, and
so then his son was there with my daughter and
it was like in my home, which is awkward. I
think there was sort of an awkward you know, like

(28:40):
wait a minute, this is just not because you know,
whatever is best for my daughter, but like, this is
really awkward. I would prefer this not be happening right now.
And then I think as time went on, you know,
her choices and her relationships made me appreciate him more,
you know, as time went on, or their dynamic in

(29:00):
their relations Yeah, how do you feel like Lily's relationship
with Jenny was Because I feel like Lily's relationship or
place in Jenny and Dan's life was unique and special
as well, because I feel like there was a real
respect there, Like I think Dan and Jenny really respect Lily. Yeah,

(29:23):
it was different, It was definitely different. That's so interesting. Yeah,
I think we had respect for each other, Like I
think in the beginning, because Dan was dating Serena, that
was kind of an odd, you know, dynamic for sure. Yeah,
it was an odd it wasn't but very real too.
I think she distanced herself because of Rufus a little
bit and because of Serena dating Dan, so I think

(29:46):
that took a minute for her to sort of And
even with Connor, the relationship was so different, you know,
his character, it is it's well, it's like with even
with your own kids. I'm sure you see this, or
it's like each child is so different that you really do,
you know, engage with each other differently. I mean the

(30:07):
way I am with my daughter versus my son, not
because of even the being a boy or a girl
or that, but their personalities are so unique. Like all
of our kids. So I think it's just sort of
also going off of their personality and who they are
and adapting to their uniqueness, you know, and their needs.

(30:27):
So I believe that that's sort of what you do
as a parent, or you know, you do your best
to do. And so I think with with all the
young people on Gossip Girl, it was that way. It
was sort of you know, I think as an actress,
and obviously what was written, you know, played with what
their dynamic was or what their inner what their energy

(30:50):
is on the show. So and as people you know,
So yeah, it's like an alchemy, isn't it. It really is.
I think acting is sort of an alchemy, and then
you develop your connections with people on shows and your dynamics.
It's it's a mix of what they're writing. It's a
mix of each person's own personality and what they bring, yeah,

(31:14):
you know, to the character, and then it should have
creates itself. It's even just with and I mean the
fact that I started calling him Charles instead of it
just became like I did. I think it was like
one time they wrote it and then from then on
I just went with it. They didn't even write it
that way. I just said, no, I think I'm going
to call him Charles, like it makes more sense to me.

(31:36):
So and I love that you call him that. I
was actually going to ask you that. Was that your
choice or did they write it that way? Yeah? No,
they wrote it one day. I think I referred to
him and something and I thought, oh, that's interesting, Yeah
it is. Yeah, I know. Oh man, kay, Okay. So

(32:08):
at the end of this episode, Bart's in an accident
and I didn't I don't remember any of this happening.
I don't remember reading this in the script years back.
But I mean, I'm pretty sure it's leaving us to
to think that something really bad is happening to Bart.
Didn't we think he died? Yeah? Do you think Lily

(32:30):
would have left Bart if he didn't die? These writers
are so good, I know, Like the more we talk, like,
I've always appreciated the Gossip Girl writers, always, Josh Stephanie, always,
from day one. I've always just like I loved them
and and the team of writers and Josh and went

(32:51):
and I just like, now that we're kind of revisiting
all of this, I just have even more appreciation for them.
I know the story resigns and how they did it. Yeah,
I'm telling you, going back and doing these rewatches, I
feel the same way. I'm like, I always knew it
was good. I always knew, you know, people responded to
it because you know, the cast brought such good flavor

(33:12):
to each character, and the writing was amazing, and the
music was good, and the fashion was flashy, and you know,
the city was so good at it. I knew all
of that, but now really giving the show time because
I never did. I didn't watch it. I read the scripts.
I played Vanessa. You know, we all we're living our lives.
But yeah, watching these, Kelly, I'm telling you, like, I'm like,

(33:34):
oh my gosh, Now I really can kind of understand,
like what this hype was all about. Like I knew,
but I knew, but I didn't, you know what I'm saying. Yeah,
we were all kind of in it. I mean, you
kind of knew you were doing something something special, for sure,
something special, and at the same time, you don't know,
You're just getting through your day and working your eighteen
hours and getting home or going to something you're supposed

(33:57):
to go to to attend or depress or Yeah, we
don't know. I think it's like in hindsight, for sure,
you can see more of like and even maybe the
writers felt that maybe everyone kind of was just doing
the best that you know, coming up with But I
hope everyone really now can look but I mean and
Eric Damon, I mean wow, and Meredith. Everyone just did

(34:19):
such an incredible job. Yeah, it was there was every
piece of the puzzle was dead, and it was such
a magical time in New York. I mean, if you
look what's happened in the world now, I mean it's
almost like, well, look back at that time as really
the golden time. I mean it was really the sort
of it was the best. It was the golden time.

(34:41):
Even I think we we appreciate it even more now
than we did then. I mean then it was like okay, yeah,
but now with everything the world, you you really go wow. Yeah.
Even in the opening of this episode, it shows New
York and you it's kind of like wintry, and I'm like,

(35:02):
just what I got like like warm chills, Like I'm like,
oh my god, I miss it, and just that time,
I mean, New York is just such a special special place.
It is it is and New Yorkers are incredible and
it is. It's it's really I think in the it's
it's beyond amazing. So many interesting people. I remember going

(35:23):
I'm sure I don't know if you felt this way,
but going to screenings in New York and you know,
I've been to screenings in l A or premieres in
l A. And you get you know a lot of
the actors and actresses and producers and agents and you
know a lot of that. And then you'd go to
a screening in New York and the people in the
audience were just as fascinating, if not right, oh my god.

(35:45):
And so you'd be like, oh my god. You know,
it was so different than the typical sort of Hollywood
premiere because the Hollywood promere you have pretty much everyone
just in your industry and powerful people within your industry.
And in New York you go to screenings and there
were powerful people from every industry absolutely, and at the
screening and I would sit and look around the room
and think, this room is as fascinating as this movie.

(36:09):
Like all the things that they do that people do
in New York. I mean, it's really incredible, beaut I know,
oh my gosh, it really was. I'm excited for you
at one point when you're traveling, you should just go
back and start with the pilot and just watch it
because it is. It's insane, and you'll forget some of
the storylines that even you did, like there was something

(36:30):
that happened within us. I'm like, I don't even remember
doing this, right, No, oh my god, Okay, I'm gonna
now you're inspiring. And my mom went back and watched
the whole thing from the beginning a couple of years
ago because she had seen most episodes but not all
of them, obviously because of our our lives. And yeah,
I should because there was so much I mean, I

(36:51):
had my little babies, I was working so much. It
would be great to go back now and and yeah, yeah, absolutely,
I mean even just think about what we're talking about
now bart dying. I'm like, you'll freak out. How much
they what goes on, I mean, yes, and the way

(37:14):
they tie stuff in, It'll be like in five episodes
something will come back that was hinted towards in this episode.
It's they just do such a great job keeping us
and and the fact that they, like we're talking about before,
we're doing this with twenty two episodes, like that, that's
that's some talent, you know what I mean? Like I
just don't even know. Yeah. Um, well, this was the

(37:38):
closing gossip Girl quote. It's a wonderful lie. Well, there
wasn't really one towards the end, which I found weird
because there was one other episode recently where they didn't
open up with the gossip girl thing, and I thought
maybe it was sort of a hint that Dan was
gossip Girl. I don't know when you when you get there,
you'll see what I mean. But here's the last thing
we hear gossip girls say, poor Vanessa. Even Cinderella was

(38:00):
giving the courtesy of a stealth getaway. Then again, what's
a trio of ugly stepsisters compared to Jenny Humphrey. Looks
like it might turn out to be an unhappily ever
after for everyone. Yes, and then this is when, because
all that happened, Jenny put Vanessa in the dress and
it was see through, and then she leaves, but she
brought the note back for Nate, and the Nate comes

(38:23):
running out, and then they Nate and Vanessa leave. It's
so clever. It's so clever. I wonder if they took
like things if that's what some of the episodes were
based on were more sort of like fairy tale ideas.
Like now that you're saying that, maybe that's where they
got some of these concepts. Yeah, I could see that
with some of these. Yeah, like the whole curry tale thing.

(38:46):
And just even like when they when they showed the
step Sisters, it's like the three mean girls all laughing
with their cameras out. Yeah, they just did great job. Oh,
I love that's right. They did the intros and then
the extra Oh. And they were so fun with the music.
They were they every time too, because I'm like specifically
listening for it now, I'm like, wow, they were just

(39:07):
it's witty and clever and funny and yeah, and Kristen
Bell is just yeah, she killed it. Bell. I mean,
how blessed show that she did all that, her voice
talented and all. I know, Right, do you know what's funny?
I don't know if you knew this. Josh and Stephanie
were talking about it that when they were doing like

(39:29):
I don't know, I guess screening, you know how they
do like they show a pilot and they have like
the little um thing where you push the button when
you like something. Yeah, like yeah, testing it. Apparently when
they were doing Gossip Girl, when the voice would come on,
the thing would like go way down the little like
the audience wouldn't wasn't responding to it, And I'm like what.

(39:51):
And Josh was saying that, you know, you do those
things to see what will work and what people will
like or understand or get. But he's like, when they
weren't like keen the Gossip Girl voice, He's like, in
my mind, I couldn't not have it in the show
because that's what the show is. He's like, but they
weren't getting it. And Stephanie was saying, like, but think

(40:11):
about it. All of a sudden, here's this voice. We
don't know who it is, we don't know anything about them,
and they're like telling us stuff. She's like, it is
kind of odd. But then you know, as the show,
you know, once you get into it, you can you
you couldn't have the show wouldn't be a show. Yeah,
they probably just didn't understand what it was. I mean,
even none of us. I mean, it was just it
became a character in the show. Yeah, absolutely, you know, so, yeah,

(40:34):
I guess in the beginning, I wouldn't have known what
to make of it either. But that's that's like just
to show you that some of these test things, I mean,
they're accurate in many ways, but in others, it's just
like not everyone can understand everything and the big picture
absolutely and and good good on Josh that He was like, no,
we gotta keep it because a lot of times those
tests people do go off of what people are responding to,

(40:55):
you know. So he was like, yeah, there just wasn't
there was no world in which we couldn't have that.
I'm like, oh my god, Josh and Stephanie, they're such smarties.
I mean, and they were so young. I mean, it's
in everybody, Eric Damon. Everybody was so young and so
brilliant and yes, and I didn't really realize that until

(41:16):
now either, Like they were very young and had already
had the o C. Yeah. I met them when they
were first doing the o C. So they were like
super young. Yeah, such such, Well, there are many team
and good people and really brilliant. I know. I love them, um,
and I'm so glad you came on and did this.

(41:37):
Do you want to talk about anything you got coming
up or anything that we should be looking out for
or looking into. Well, I just did an episode of
this new series for Amazon France and maybe Amazon France.
But it's called Escort Boys and it's amazing. So I
played the American I did an episode in it. It's
going to be very funny, very cool, very sexy, funny show. Yeah.

(41:59):
And then I've got you know, Sovereign Collect, the website
for global brands. Yeah, tell us tell me about that.
I mean, I know what it is, but like for
anyone that maybe wants to check it out, just give
us a little We have four brands on the platform
so far, and you shop by city and you can
discover new brands, new emerging brands, artisans um from all

(42:21):
over the world and even in your own city, which
is really fun. We're doing a pop up in London
UM in a couple of weeks. And then Wiser which
is a new social media app for sharing knowledge and expertise,
so that will be soon in the app store. So
it's kind of like Instagram, but you get to share
what creators are sort of learning about. So if you

(42:42):
and I, let's say, follow each other, I can learn
more about what you're learning about. You can we can
curate it. Love that. Yeah, it's like a deeper dive.
It's like Instagram, but a deeper you know. If if
you want to learn about things and share it with
your friends or they want to know what you're learning.
It's really cool. And as creators, it's cool because you
can create your own core to your own classes um

(43:02):
and it'll be it'll be fun like masterclass, but with many,
many different um subjects. So, oh my god, Yes, that's
very cool. I like that because it's like what you said,
it's just like a deeper, you know, deeper thing and
you can and I like the whole like learning things
and sharing that. Yeah, I like that a lot. Yeah,
it's fun. It's really fun, very cool. And it's called

(43:25):
Wiser w h wise e z e R Yeah, Wiser.
So we're just starting the app hasn't launched yet. It's
been sort of in the development and all the tech
side of things, and so now we're starting to onboard
creators and then you can sign Now you can sign
up as you know, you can sign up for it.
But it'll launch hopefully soon, hopefully in the next few weeks.

(43:46):
Oh my god, amazing, I don't get it. Yes, well,
enjoy London, and honestly, one of these times where we
have to be in the same city, I feel like,
can you in l A. Mostly I'm going to be
an Arizona mostly for now. I just finished this rom
com Christmas movie. I've in Canada, literally just finished, like
