Speaker 1 (00:00):
Comedian, writer, and TV producer Whitney Cummings thinks it's dangerous
times right now to be a comedian in America. She says,
I don't have to tell you over the past couple
of years, comedy has taken quite a hit. The performer
tells page six in an exclusive interview. It became super
obvious that there were some issues in our society, which
(00:22):
you know, it's usually our job to comment on and confront,
and then all of a sudden, comedians started becoming like
the enemy. Cummings explains that previously, comedians would tackle sensitive
subjects to help everyone cope and to laugh at horrible things,
and then all of a sudden, for a litany of reasons,
people started saying comedians are bullies and we're causing violence.
(00:46):
Wait what, Cummings went on to say, There needs to
be space where comedians don't have to be scared anymore. So, Steve,
you've been saying this for quite some time about the
attack on comedians and how it's difficult now and everything,
So so, um, what's your take on this? What she
had to say? Well, I think she's correct, and here's
(01:08):
what I've thought about it. Even further, the majority of
the criticism comes from either the far right or the
far left. Okay, the most of the criticism and the
council culture was created and come up by the far
right and the far left. These are the extremist. So
(01:30):
the extremist because they are extremely sensitive and they have
created such a thought pattern in their life that if
you don't agree with what I just said, that makes
you a horrible person and you should not exist. And
that's on the far right and the far left. And
(01:52):
that's a dangerous place to be because now we have
it mitigated the freedom of speech. But see, you freely
can stand up and say who you are and what
you believe. You can stand up and say who you
are and what you want to be called. But if
a person stand up and say I don't believe that,
(02:16):
and I don't believe that, then all of a sudden,
that person becomes, as she said, the enemy. And if
you make fun of it in any way, then the
extremists become extremely sensitive and they call for your job,
(02:38):
and them scary ass punk people in the middle start
canceling your shows, pulling your sponsorship, because the middle is
scared of both of them. They're scared of the far
left and the far right. The Democrats need the far
left to win, and the Republicans need the far right
to win. And they appeal is these group and give
(03:01):
them life. But when you give an extremists too much life,
they're gonna be extreme. And that's where we are today.
Got a bunch of damn extreme ask people out of
Wow telling all the rest of us what to think
and feel. Man missed me? Yeah, all right, all right,
