Speaker 1 (00:00):
Magic ninety five nine. Hey, good morning. It is Paul James,
and today I have the pleasure of joining Amy Parker
from the Peanut Butter and Jelly Truck. You're probably familiar
with that. That is Luke three eleven Ministries. Amy, Welcome
to the show. Thank you for being here.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
How are you today, Hi, Paul, thank you so much
for having me. It's a wonderful chili morning out there.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
It is most definitely well. You are telling me off
air that you are starting yet another initiative. You know,
most people know you guys from the Peanut Butter and
Jelly Truck, from the neighborhoods and everything that you're doing,
But Luke three eleven Ministry is doing something brand new.
I wish for prom Tell everybody about this initiative and
how excited it is.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Well, we are very excited about this, So I wish
for prom is a prom just recycling event. Recycling is
very close to our hearts because of our lumpy loads
of laundry ministry, where we recycle laundry detergent dugs and
refill them with homemade detergent. So recycling prom dresses fit
right in with our mission of helping Marian with its

(01:04):
needs of poverty. So what we are doing is partnering
with local businesses for this initiative. Right now, our partners
are Maddie's on Maine and Finding Center, their two little
boutiques downtown Marion, and we are all three working together
to recycle prom dresses donated by the community, and not
just prom dresses, built, silk flowers, jewelry, shoes, all of

(01:28):
the things that a girl might need to feel magical
on her prom night. And then what we will do
is have an event at Maddie's on Maine to start with,
where she will open up at night after hours and
we will put our dress inventory out instead of her
usual cute clothing, and we will bring girls in one
at a time to choose a dress, choose shoes, shoes, accessories,

(01:50):
all the things that she will need for a memorable
prom night for her. And we also hope to have
raffles for hairstyling vouchers, dry cleaning, makeup services. We are
hoping to make it really magical, so we're very very
excited about this. We're in the gallon collecting phase right
now where we are just building our inventory and then

(02:12):
we will start growing as our inventory grows, So we're
going to start with one event and then hopefully several
events every year.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
I love that. So right now it is the collection
time and you can donate those items at Maddie's on
Maine Finding Center and they can also look up you
directly and get them directly to you. Correct, that's right.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Our Peanut Butter Jelly Truck headquarters on Valentine Avenue has
a collection box that's twenty four to seven. You can
just look for the Peanut Butter Jelly Truck out front,
run up to the Volunteer center on the porch and
drop it in the Receptacle Finding Center on Center Street.
And Maddie's on Maine on Main Street also have donation
boxes where you can drop dresses there while you're shopping,

(02:56):
and their boutiques. So any of those three are ways
that you can get items to us, and we will
be so grateful to give your items a second life
and a second chance at a fun, magical night.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
I love that. I Wish for prom it is the
next project for Luke three eleven Ministries. Now, if you
want more details, you can find it on Facebook by
doing a search for I Wish for Prom or you
can go to three eleven Ministries dot org. And Amy,
you know, this is a great initiative, and I know
you said you're just getting started on the collection phase.
There might be folks that are hearing us right now

(03:32):
that are going I want to get involved. I don't
have any dresses. I don't have any, but I would
love to help out. I'd love to donate some cash
or work on the project. How do they do that
and what else? What might you be looking for?

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Well, we definitely need funds for dry cleaning because the
dresses don't come to us in wearable condition always. We
also could use funds for vouchers for undergarments because a
lot of these dresses require special special undergarments for under
needs them, So we could use some funds for those items.

(04:05):
We would love dry cleaning, gift certificates, coals gift certificates,
those kinds of things for those kinds of items. We
will also need volunteer support the event, but that's a
little bit down the road.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
And then we.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Could use people to host collections because we know Maddie's
main finding center and our collection boxes are available, but
any organizations or groups that would like to put a
little box out for their own groups convenience and then
drop off to us would also be really really helpful
and we would be very grateful after the prom events

(04:39):
at the schools this spring. You know, if different school
groups could collect up leftover addresses after the events, that
would be wonderful.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
I love that that's some great So you probably also
maybe are looking for some folks that are pretty good
at sewing to maybe make some repairs and things like
that too.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Absolutely, absolutely we do have a sewing machine to use
on site at the events, but we don't have people
skilled at using them yet. So if if we do
have a seamstress or two that would want to pop
in and use our supplies to help make a few
alterations on site, that would also be something we could
use for when the time comes. So we would love

(05:18):
to start building a network of volunteers for when we
do start having events and if someone needs addressed now
before we are ready to go. We are not the
only ones who do this. There is a church of
it then as we're in. Church in Town has an
event every year, and in Morrow County there is and

(05:38):
there's a boutique that does this kind of thing in
Mount Gilead, So if a girl has the ability to travel,
or if a girl has the ability to make it
to the church of It, those are other options available
until we are up and running and having as many
events as we would like to meet the entire need.
We're not the first to do this, but the need
is so great, so we're just trying to help make

(06:00):
a dent in it.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
I love it. I love it. We're talking with Amy
Parker I Wish for Prom from Luke three eleven Ministries.
Once again. You can learn all about everything, get contact
information on Facebook at I Wish for Prom. All those
details are there. You can also go to Luke three
one Oneministries dot org Luke three eleven Ministries dot org.

(06:22):
The details are there as well. Amy. Thank you so
much for joining the show. Anything else that we need
to get out with this initiative.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Well, not necessarily for this initiative, but we are always
looking for volunteers to partner with for any of our projects.
So if anyone in the community is looking for a
way to give back and get together with some other
really fun people, we would love to have you on
any of our projects, our laundry projects or our peanut
butter Jelly Truck project as well, so just send a

(06:49):
message to us. We also have an email it's Luke
three eleven Ministries at yahoo dot com. So all of
those ways that you mentioned land in that email box
so you can reach out to us with any questions
you might have about how to get involved. We would
love to serve to serve our neighbors together with anyone
who wants to get involved.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Great stuff. Once again, the way to reach out all
those different ways, most importantly you could do Luke three
one one ministries dot org Luke three eleven Ministries dot
