to be talking about Rally in theAlley. It is coming as part of
the Star Players twenty twenty four twentytwenty five membership drive. And Jan,
thanks for coming in. How areyou? Oh? Thanks for having me.
I always enjoy talking to you.Oh, absolutely. And what's cool
is it we're going to talk aboutsomething that you and I know way too
(00:23):
much about, and that is localentertainment and fabulous performers and great food and
just a really fun time. Firstof all, tell everybody what Rally in
the Alley is and why you're doingit well. Rally in the Alley is
every Thursday night in May in UpperSandusky. We're going to have live entertainment,
food, trucks, and some activitiesright outside the Star Theater in Star
(00:46):
Alley. And we're doing it wellfor two reasons. One is we know
that a great community has great isbased back on entertainment for the arts,
and so we want to help UpperSandusky thrive and we want to build our
own membership. Yep, I thinkthat's fantastic. Rally in the Alley is
(01:07):
going to start on May the second. It will be at one twenty one
West Wyandott Avenue in Upper Sandusky.Right, they're the Star Theater Alley.
You guys know where this is.So every Thursday night in May from six
to eight and May second is thefirst one. And you've got Ron Boose
and Sarah Grody. That is goingto be so much fun. Oh,
you're going to have to help mea little bit here. But I know
(01:29):
Ron from way back. Absolutely everybodyknows Ron from wayback. He's Upper Sandusky's
music man, and that's where Isaw him with Sarah. Yeah, but
Ron, I asked him, Isaid, hey, Ron, would you
sing at rally in the alley? And he says, boy, do I
have a good partner that I canask. Absolutely. So they're going to
kick it off for us and they'regoing to sing songs. They were in
Music Man together and I'm sure manyother shows. And you were telling me
(01:53):
about Sarah. She's amazing. I'veworked with Sarah since she was in high
school. She is probably the thebest Disney singer you will find in this
area. So make sure you bringyour kids. They're gonna love what she
does and how she sings, andher and Ron work so well together,
it's gonna be cool. So notonly are they gonna be singing, you'll
(02:14):
have the first Thursday food trucks thereand theater tours so people can take a
look at the beautiful Star Theater.Yes, the theater itself is a historic
building and it was built in nineteenforty by Leo Jones. Some people may
have heard of him. Of coursehe's passed away now, but we have
a cute little story. He wasfriends with a lot of celebrities from the
(02:37):
movie industry, and so someone wastelling me recently about their little brother.
Now this was a while back. His mom he dropped I'm sorry, the
mother dropped the little boy off atthe theater to see a movie, okay,
and she was late getting back topick him up. So he was
standing on the curb crying when thisgentleman came up and said, what's wrong,
(02:58):
little partner. It turned out tobeat Roy Rogers. That's awesome,
what a great story. We stillhave an autographed picture of Roy Rogers in
our box office. So it's agreat building and we're encouraging people to come
in take pictures on the inside outsidebecause we're having a photo contest okay,
and we're gonna have We're gonna maketheir pictures into eight x ten's and hang
(03:20):
them on the wall outside in thealley, and then people are gonna vote
on them by money. Okay. The top three winners share the money,
but the winner gets to be onthe program of the cover for the Star
Theaters. Oh that's fantastic. Ilove that. Remember, rally in the
alley is a membership drive. Itis a fundraiser for the Star Theater.
(03:43):
They're gonna do it rain or shine. They're gonna ask you to bring your
lawn share with live entertainment and thefood and everything. Now let's move over
to May ninth. This is EricaBickheart playing Karen Carpenter. If you love
the music of the Carpenters, you'regonna join me in being there on May
the ninth. This is cool.I understand she is very very close to
Upper Sandusky. Tell us who sheis. Yes, although she's close.
(04:08):
I just met her last year whenshe was in mash that I directed,
and I heard her sing for thefirst time. But she is well known.
She's well known and Upper because she'sformer Mayor Washburn's sister. Okay,
and That's how I got connected toher. She is a backup singer for
the Walt Cadillac Band. Yes,yes, he's an Elvis Presley impersonator,
(04:30):
but she does the Karen Carpenter tributeshow when they travel around the countryside.
She is really good. It's anothertreat for Upper Sandesty. Really looking forward
to that. The Whaling Onion andthe Flame j snow Cone food trucks will
be there and they'll be video testimonieson the big screen. So you have
reached out to people all over theworld to talk about the wonderful Star Theater
(04:55):
in Upper Sandusky for these right,Yes I can. I'll just tell you
a couple. Joe wrote one ofthe musicals with Ruth Bacon years ago.
It was called Nickers. He livesin Denver and he's going to do a
video testimony for me. He's probablygonna play some music too. David Romick
is the head sound engineer with thetour of Wicket. He's doing one.
(05:18):
Jeff Kin, one of you.Jeff Kin runs a community theater in Sarasota,
Florida. Okay. Another former student, Seth Spring, works at Westerville,
does a high school school system anddoes all their sound and all their
technical work for theater. Trying tothink. Oh, Craig Rameley, Love
(05:40):
Craig Romeley. He's been in theentertainment industry for a long time. Now
he's up in Akron. There maybe more, but there'll be a surprise.
That'll be a surprise, and hopefullyyou'll be able to see all of
those video testimonies when you come upon May ninth. May sixteenth, Larry
Teal and Brad Baker raise your handif you don't know who they are,
so no hands are up. Theyare going to be phenomenal May sixteenth Star
(06:04):
Theater with hot dogs and Mark's homemadeice cream, and the photo contest will
continue. Of course, Larry andBrad are always a good time. Oh
my gosh, I've known Larry forever. You have no idea what they're gonna
do that night. I grew upbeside him. He was ornery back then,
but he's so much fun and he'sso supportive of the theater, and
(06:25):
he's doing a lot. He's travelingaround doing a solo act now, but
he's peering up with Brad Baker. And again, I've known Brad for a
long time, but he was inmash with me last year, so I
got to renew that friendship. Andhe is so witty and so funny,
but half the time I don't knowhe's kidding me or not. So it'll
be a surprise. Come and seeit. No, that's May sixteenth,
(06:46):
May twenty third will be the Marvelouswonder Ats. Yes, you know,
the Bacon Sisters, and it willbe phenomenal. Did you have every one
of them in school? Oh?Yes, and Miranda King and Miranda Right,
they were all students at mine ofUpper Sandusky High School. I saw
that show The Marvelous Wonderettes on santabelIsland, Florida. Oh wow, And
I said to myself, I'd loveto do that show because it's fifties and
(07:10):
sixties music my time. And soI said, well, I know who,
If I can get these four girls, I'll have a hit on my
hands. Yep. And then theirdad helped me out and we did have
an awesome show, So it's reallyclose to my heart. Yeah, that's
gonna be fabulous. I'm looking forwardto that one as well. Mini car
show that night because you're playing intothe theme of the fifties, aren't you,
(07:32):
right, yeah again, another studentof mine. I'm so lucky because
I taught for forty years. Youjust have to you just have to call
in a favor. Yeah. SoI called Mike Gaster and he's president of
the car show group in Upper Sandusky. I said, Mike, can you
help me out and get me somecars and he said yes. So we'll
have some cars sitting around from thefifties or sixties for the car lovers.
(07:57):
That'll be fun. May thirtieth, the final threesday night of rally in the
alley from six to eight on Maythirtieth will be Ethan Cordy and this we
are inviting everyone else to be partof the show too. Open Mic Night
for Kids on May thirtieth. You'rebringing in the Chick fil A truck and
gonna have crazy photos. That'll bea fun night, we think. We
(08:18):
just hope we'd have crowds overflowing inthe streets. Absolutely. Now we invited
through the music teachers, and ofcourse we're pumping it up other places.
Ethan's wonderful, but he's gonna fillin for us for open Mic Night for
Kids K through twelve. Yeah, now we want to do that because you
know the Star Theater. Star Playershas star Kids right this year they're doing
(08:41):
Beauty and the Beast. I thinkthey had eighty kids show up. That's
amazing. So we're gonna invite allkids. It's not a competition or it's
not. It's just go out andshow off. It's having fun. And
so we're gonna have that open night, Open night, Mike Night, and
we're gonna ask them maybe to signup so we know what we need,
how much time and all that. But oh and it won't hurt to kind
(09:05):
of see the future talent. Absolutely, that is going to be so much
fun. It is Rally in theAlley. It is happening for and with
the Star Players. It's a membershipdrive for twenty twenty four to twenty twenty
five, so you'll be able totour the theater learn all about why you
should become a member of the StarTheater with this live entertainment in food,
rain or shine, bring your ownlaunch air every Thursday night in May from
(09:28):
six to eight. And I amjust excited. And you know, if
people don't know much about the StarPlayers or the Star Theater, they come
to Rally in the Alley, they'regonna get a chance to see the theater,
learn a little bit about it,see the lineup that's coming up,
and then really fall in love withthat and obviously support the arts in the
theater in Upper Sandusky. And anothergreat thing is you will be able to
(09:50):
sign up from membership right there andrally in the alley. Okay, now
you're able to and mayor former MayorWashburn is our MSc and he's gonna hustle
the membership, so be prepared.Bring your check book, your credit card,
cash, we'll take it all.So Jan's going to do a fifty
(10:11):
to fifty, but really it's aone hundred percent to the Star Theater.
So because if you do happen towin it, everybody is going to stare
at you waiting on you to giveit back. So realize that when you
do the fifty to fifty, it'sactually a one hundred. Right. I
want to share one more thing withyou, if it's okay. Is one
of the dreams, like we said, we're we want to help Upper Sandusky
thrive. Certainly, you know,we had a fired a couple of years
(10:35):
ago and a production company or abuilding company has now bought all those buildings
and we're coming back and we wantto be part of that. So we
got sponsors and we're going to stringWe got Edison lights that were now installing
down the alley yeh. And it'sRon Busse's dreams, so we're helping him
out on that. And Mark andNancy Johnson from First Citizens National Bank or
(10:58):
picking up the tab Piper hardware. It's giving us all the hardware and Eric
Godfrey's doing all the work free.So you know, this is teamwork and
we hope to see everybody there. And you need to hop on Facebook and
do a search out for the StarTheater so you can kind of follow everything
that's going on. But plan onbeing at the rally in the alley every
(11:22):
