Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez were forced to change their extravagant wedding location in Venice, Italy after facing backlash from locals and protest groups. Demonstrators threatened to disrupt the ceremony with inflatable crocodiles in the canals, objecting to the couple monopolizing public spaces and criticizing Bezos over tax-related grievances. Originally planned for a central square, the wedding has now been moved to the historic Arsenal shipyard complex for security and privacy.

Locals, tourists, and even the Trumps are part of this wild weekend event, and the debate continues: is Bezos bringing economic opportunity to Venice, or just a flood of frustration?

Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for Nina's what's trending.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
It's wedding week for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez and
thanks to protesters, they've had to change the location of
their wedding.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
They're protesting their wedding.

Speaker 4 (00:10):
That's expensive, yes.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
So they're getting married in Venice, and of course everybody
is flying in from around the world to attend. But
the problem is is that all the demonstrators were saying
that they were going to throw inflatable crocodiles into the
canals in Venice in Italy to make sure that people
couldn't arrive in the water taxis in the gondolas, and they.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Started to do this, why are they doing that?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Because they don't want them to be there. So essentially
the plan was they were going to have their wedding
in one of the bigger like Duomo areas, like in
the big you know square. Venice isn't huge, and so
there's just like a few places for them to be
and so they were kind of monopolizing the whole place,
and the locals didn't want them there. So they had
a plan to be protesting. Anyways, on this weekend at

(00:52):
Saturday or Sunday, I don't remember which to day. Now
that the actual wedding is happening Saturday, so they still.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Plan to do that.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
But now Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez have moved their
wedding to a place called the Arsenal. So it's a
complex still in Venice of boatyards and basins and stuff.
It's where they used to build warships and merchant vessels
back in the eighteenth century. So it sounds actually pretty cool,
but it's like on the outskirts of Venice, and it's
got like this.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Big I think you'd want to do it there anyway,
it's kind of like more privacy and.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
It's easier to secure.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
So to top it all off, they're worried about their
wedding being a target because the Trumps will also be there.
So they have all of these things leading up to
the wedding and.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
So Trumps will be at their wedding.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Mm hm wow.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
Confused by this because all the signs that I saw
that people were protesting the fact that he doesn't pay
enough taxes in America.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Really that's part of it, but also it's the locals
didn't want They don't like.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
The injection of hundreds of millions of dollars into their
economy for a week they don't think they like.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Sounds pretty silly to me. Yeah, that's pretty short sighted.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
I think about all the floorists, think about all the catering,
thinking about all the all the stuff like that doesn't
make any sense to me.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
And I bet you the locals didn't catch you.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
This is a bunch of non Italian people coming in
and investing, because there were a lot of people the
picture I saw that were like hundreds and hundreds of
people holding up this huge, huge thing like I think
you know when they unfurl an American flag at a
football game, like across the whole field. It was like
that big oh really and it was like you can't

(02:21):
do this, but you can't pay your taxes or something
like that.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
It did it did say.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
That, of course he's not paying as much taxes as
he should. Those guys have they know all the loopholes.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yeah, they are Italians and they're called no Space for
Bezos protest groups.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
But if you think.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
About it, if you're doing it in a town square,
you're doing it where people like normally go on their walks,
normally liked well.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
And it's also tire week.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
I feel like it's a weekly, like it's a festival
almost of a thing.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
Jeff Bezos wedding festival.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, a phone party on a yacht. Okay, that's kind
of fun, That's what I said. But I love that
they went for the throwback phone party. But that's fun,
I know, I know. So I don't know even just confused.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
By it, that's all I don't. I have no opinions
about it. I'm just confused.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
I don't know if they're actually using locals though, to
do their flat. I mean, I don't know either way,
so I shouldn't say that. So maybe that could be
part of it too, is that they're not using the
resources that are right there for them in Fintas.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
I'm not really sure. Yeah, it's weird.

Speaker 5 (03:14):
Just I would just think you as a as a
small because Venice is a small community. I would assume
you'd want that injection of cash into your economy. And
if you don't want the square rented out, don't make
it for rent.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
I mean there's yeah, unless he was taking it over
and like they couldn't get anywhere. You know, you're annoyed
by that. Yeah, I lived in if I lived in
Venice and Jeff Bezos showed up with his wife and
her astronaut friends. It's taking me an hour to get
to work, and he usually takes me ten minutes. Because
this is small, I can just walk to work now,
I got astronauts everywhere.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
How's any different than the super Bowl being in your
town though? True? Well he's annoying me, I think exactly. Yeah,
just leave town.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
We expect that. I feel like they didn't expect that.
They don't have that every year. Jeff Bezos.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Yeah, they certainly don't have a lot of infrastructure like
I also just might not like it for whatever.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
Yeah, that's also true.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
So that's what's trending.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
He could take away prime from that whole place wedding.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I don't know they get prime anyways. What on the
gondolas shipping? Well, they got to get there by water.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
Yeah wait, well, I'm just saying I've got to have.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Some sort of a one day shipping can still be
done for taxis anyway.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
There you have it.
