Toby and Chili Mornings on demand onninety seven point one, Wash them who
feeling good today? On this Wednesday, halfway through another week before five,
as we wake up and shake offthe sleep from last night, ninety seven
point one WATCHFM or Toby and Chillyin the morning. Chili, you're feeling
good this morning? Ah? Yeah, I got a second fan in our

(00:21):
bedroom. It's the little thing steeringheat waves. Well, our AC is
working. We have a ceiling fan, but it's I'm a hot person,
like I just run hot and itwasn't enough. So we were able to
dig out. Yeah, a backupfan and it's all pointed at me.

(00:41):
My husband over there is cold, but I'm fine, So I'm very glad
that I finally found the right temperature. It's like goldilocks. Do you leave
the door open when you go tobed? And here's why I say that
is because it makes the air conditionerwork better. They say, leaving it
open? Yeah, Fortunately we donot. Oh, I need to have

(01:02):
it closed because remember my son andmy husband go to bed after me,
and I need to shut the worldus to be the same way. And
now that we've been getting into theseheat waves and stuff, I've been leaving
the door open, and it's it'sa thing. It's a thing. But
I just want the ace because, like you, I feel that heat thing.
I want the AC to do itsjob and the sheets and blankets to

(01:23):
do its job. And sometimes it'snot enough, and I want the room
to be arctic frost. So ifI have five fans, a ceiling fan,
and an ac going, I'm goodto go. Yeah, and you
know what, that's one of thereasons I'm feeling some joy today too,
is I think that's one of thereasons why my daughter wants to come home
from Florida and Mom's house. Ohyeah, she's coming today. Yeah.
Well, one of the reasons shetold me is kind of actually inadvertently related

(01:47):
to that. She says, Momkeeps the house hot, and it's just
hot and I can't sleep. AndI'm like, well, this is coming
from the kiddo tells me sometimes Ikeep it too cold. I'd rather it'd
be colder than not. That's true. I'm like, all right, well,
how long has it been since you'veseen your daughter. I want to
think it's been about a month orso, you know, And I want
her to spend time with her mom. I love her mom. I think

(02:07):
she's great. I hope she's havinga fun time with her mom's family and
stuff. But you know, it'squiet around the place. And I like
my little buddy, and she's notso little anymore at twenty. But you
know, you'll have these things. It's a girl dad thing, I guess
anyway. So that's why I'm feelinggood. Between the AC's and kids who
like it cold like you do.Today is going to be a good day.

(02:30):
It's ninety seven point one wash CHEFM. Let's get into it. Or
Toby and Chilly in the Morning comingup next, our producer Taylor is stressing
out about hosting a friend of hers. Uh oh, a conundrum of foots
uh oh, stay there for morepeople. I understand, Producer Taylor.
She has a conundrum, and I'mnot talking about the wine this morning.
Toby and Chilly in the Morning.Hey, five AM club, the numbers
eight sixty six wash FM one talkbackmicrophones open to because you might need to

(02:53):
jump in and offer some opinions onthis. By the way, did I
say Toby and Chilly in the Morningat ninety seven point one wash FM?
All right? Then here Taylor shakTaylor, what is what is a miss?
Well, my inability to say no, it's kind of gotten me in
trouble. I have a childhood friend. She lives in Minnesota, and we

(03:13):
only see each other like every fiveish years. And my big milestone fortieth
birthdays coming up next month, andshe said I want to come visit you,
and I was like, yay, that's the best gift ever. But
she wants to come for five days. Five whole days. That's a bit
much for me. Come up inthe conversation, depending on where you are.

(03:35):
Yeah, well kind of. Ididn't want to hurt her feelings,
so I said, well, Idon't actually have any PTO because I just
started this new job, which isonly half true. Okay, here we
go. Do have some PTO upfrontwith this job, but I've kind of
allocated it for the holidays, soI wouldn't go unpaid. I just have

(03:57):
to adjust things. But she didn'ttake the hint. She booked the ticket
anyway, And now part of mewants to go back and say, listen,
I love you, but five daysis too much. But can I
I don't know. Oh, Ithink you got to eat it. I
mean, if she booked a ticket. Look, I know it's a lot.
You got two little kids, right, and I know that with work
and kids, it may just fivedays is a long time, No,

(04:19):
Lie, I've never hosted anybody forfive days. But once I've not spoken
up, sooner, you're gonna haveto just figure it out. I don't
know that I would be comfortable. What about you told me you as soon
as you said you told her ahalf truth, that like lit me up
like a Christmas tree. I'm like, now you're screwed. So you know,
the only thing you can really donow is come clean. Like you've

(04:41):
got to go to your friend andyou got to say, hey, listen,
I should have been straight up withyou. I do have time off,
but it's just a lot to haveanybody come over for five days.
It doesn't mean I don't love you. I'm sorry I didn't say this up
front. I should have put thaton me. I hope this doesn't affect
it. You're gonna have to doa Mia Kolpa now and like I was
not honest. Yeah, that stinksbecause the fact that you weren't honest caused

(05:04):
her to do what she did.Booking airfare, making decisions assuming, and
that's where everything becomes a problem.Well, now you've got our thoughts on
this, you're gonna have to figurethis out as ap. What do you
think you're gonna do? I thinkI might eat it. I don't know.
I know I love her, andI don't can't tell her I lied

(05:26):
to her, because if I toldher I lied about this thing, then
I'm gonna lie about other things.Yeah, you better, I'm excited to
see her. I'll probably eat it, but I don't know. I think
that if this person has been afriend as long as you've said, as
much as I agree with Chilly, you're gonna have to eat it. But
I also would take it one stepfurther. You're gonna have to make it
right because here's what would really stinkis if she found out after the fact

(05:50):
you were not honest, and thatwill create three days, five days,
seven days a year of HG doublehockey style? Am I right? Though,
Chilly? I don't know. Maybesomeone else has been in the same
position that they can provide more insight. All right, People eight six six

jump into this conversation with any thoughtsor advice. You might have talkback microphones

that work out? We look forwardto hearing from you, and good luck

It's time for your morning mindset forthis Wednesday. What's the quote you've got
for us? From Ralph Waldo Emerson, use your words this early morning,
Toby. From Ralph Waldo Emerson says, without ambition, one starts nothing.

(07:03):
Without work, one finishes nothing. The prize will not be sent to you.
You have to win it. Well, I need a level playing field.
Well I should at least get aparticipation prize. No, that's not
how life works. It's unfortunate.I know, maybe for some. But
you've got to throw that ambition inright, because if you don't throw that

(07:26):
ambition into whatever you're doing, you'renot really starting anything. And then,
yeah, you're on the same playingfield as everybody else, and then nothing's
getting finished. You're not putting inthe work because you don't have the ambition
to serve as the catalyst. Soseize that ambition today. Go and win
the prize you feel that you deservein this life. You have to win

(07:47):
it. Ralph Waldo Emerson. It'sa great quote and hopefully it helped you.
If you need to share it withsomeone, you can. You can
find it on the Toby and chilipageat washfm dot com. With that ambition,

effect January first, the Washington Commandersare going to be bringing back a classic
uniform look during select games this season. The team announced yesterday that gold pants
are going to be part of theuniform rotation for the first time since twenty

spending more time on their electronic devicesthan they do with their kids. On

(11:43):
average, parents spend nearly five hoursa day on devices compared to less than
four hours engaging in meaningful activities withtheir children. Forecast for today, there
is at excessive heat warning between noonand eight pm. Lee cloudy ninety five
the high it'll feel like one hundredand five though right now eighty in Leesburg.

(12:05):
All right. About an hour ago, we were talking with our producer
Taylor Shay about a situation she's foundherself in here at ninety seven point one
wash FM, where you just gottop stories at the top of the hour.
A friend coming to town is stayinglonger than she feels comfortable for.
However, she probably could have seta few things up front that maybe she
didn't say that caused well, aconundrum and I'm not talking about the red

(12:28):
wine. What was the conundrum andwhat did you have to say about her
thoughts? If you heard the storythis morning, stay there. A couple
of people have a few things toshare coming up in minutes. Robert's taking
on the line with Toby and Chillyin the morning here a ntty seven point
one WASHFM because he wants to talkabout producer Taylor Shay's situation she shared with

(12:50):
us earlier. Yeah, so shehas a friend coming to visit next month
for her fortieth birthday for five days. Taylor is now having some regret thinking
that's a little bit too long ofa visit. There's a lot to this
story. Basically, either you suckit up and you just don't say anything
at all and you deal with thestress of five days, or you own

(13:11):
the fact that maybe you should havebeen upfront at the beginning and said,
hey, five days is too long. Maybe three. There's a lot to
this story. You can hear itall the Tope and Chili page to WASHUFM
dot com. Robert, thank youfor listening. You heard it this morning.
What are your thoughts? You gotto come clean with her and let
her know everything's going on, becauseyou could end up ruining a friendship.
You know, if you've been friendsthis long, you'll figure it out.

(13:33):
So, Robert, you should neverever lie to a friend. I don't
care who it is. To befair, you guys keep saying, Oh,
I lied to her. I wastrying to spare her feelings, and
in the end I may have actuallyhurt her feelings more. If I do
have to go back and say maybethree days is enough, you need to
make it right. Conversely, ifI don't and she comes for the five
days, what if we have anabsolute fantastic five days. Okay, that's

(13:56):
great, And what happens if shefinds out that you basically lied to it.
She don't think that you didn't wanther there. I think you're focusing
on this as being a lie morethan after the fact you're thinking, maybe
that's too many days. Don't everallow to a friend. I don't care
who it is. Okay, Isee where he's coming from. He's like,
it's all in how you do it. If you go back to her
and you say, hey, listen, I probably should have told you this

(14:18):
upfront. If you own it,you at least give the opportunity to make
that part of it right while you'resucking it up and eating the rest of
it. Exactly, suck it upand do what you gotta do. But
I would definitely set her down andtalk to her, get her on the
phone, whatever, before this flighttakes place. It seems to me like
the Axios version of what you justsaid is basically this the road to hell

(14:39):
is paved with good intentions, goodluck on the journey. I can't say
you that on the idiot. Ijust did Shelby and Chilli's nearly impossible question.

(19:11):
when it's hot out do you change? Do you find that you change
what you eat or drink because ofthe temperatures? You know what I mean?
Like? Are there foods that arejust too hot for hot temps?
Think about this and we'll get intoit and why coming up in a few
minutes. Toby and Chilly in themorning, it's ninety seven point one wash
CHEFM and if you want to jumpinto any conversation eight sixty six wash CHEFM,

(19:33):
the nuumber one. Is there somethingyou eat when it's hot, like
to help you cool down? Tobyand Chilly in the morning, ninety seven
point one wash CHEFM. Eight sixsix wash CHEFM. The number one talk
back microphone also open if you wantto jump in. I don't know about
you, Chili, but I havefound myself over the last few weeks that
we've had the scorching heat wave herein DC, and then when I was

(19:53):
in Texas where it was even liketemperature hotter than it is here, I
found myself shunning any type of foodsthat I love that are hot foods.
And we're not talking spicy, we'retalking temperature. So you're not eating like
brisket, Nope, anything cooked ona girl no way. Well I got
the grill th No, haven't evengone to see my friends at Steezburger.

(20:18):
Turned my nose up and wat aburger. You're not having any hot meals?
Like, what are you eating them? I mean, seriously, there's
a spot show summertime peace salad. That's very limiting. What's pasta salads?
To a degree, I totally get, like, maybe we have ice coffee
this time of year versus hot coffee. But when you're indoors and it's air

(20:41):
conditioned, why can't you just havea burger inside the house. Eventually I'll
have to leave the house and I'llleave the comfort of the air conditioning.
And then if I'm full and I'moutside and it's like soupy hot like it
is here with all this humidity goingon and heat index is feeling like one
hundred and fifty plus humidity, it'sjust appressive. I can't feel full and

(21:02):
then feel oppressive, okay. Atthe same time, it causes my body
to just so the food feels heavierif it's the hot heavier, just malaise
like just nastiness. Whereas, however, if I'm having watermelon, I'm fine,
Well, okay, if I'm havingcucumber salad, that doesn't seem very
filling to me. You're talking aboutgaspachos and salads. Are you hungry all

(21:26):
the time, just because yes, yes, I am a little bit more
hungry all the time. Even avocadosare good, like, but you know,
like you're so funny, you know, but bananas, Yes, bananas
are good too because they're light. They're not and then you know what,
and I even love the bananas evenbetter if you had them in the fridge.
Wow. I mean, I'm notsaying go put something on a crockpot
because it's not crockpot weather. Butfor crying out loud, it's okay to

(21:49):
have something. You say that,But I don't know. So am I?
Am I crazy? Am I theonly person who has different food choices
When heat waves like the heat thatwe're experiencing now set in, Maybe you
have something that you eat when it'stied out to cool you off. If

(22:10):
you do, tell us all aboutit. Talkback microphone, you can tap
speak and send us a voice notbecause sometimes that's easier. We can call
eight sixty six ninety two, sevenforty three sixty one. Do you let
the heat affect your food choices?Call and share your story. Can't wait
to hear from you. And bythe way, coming up in just a
few minutes here at ninety seven pointone was CHEFM. Let's talk about you
at work. You have a bosswho's really a high performing boss, a

(22:33):
high performance boss that can get thebest out of you. Would you be
willing to work for one of thesepeople even if they turn to the pressure
up and ratcheted it up big time, almost to the point where their way
of motivating you might be seemed byit might be seen by others as being
somewhat questionable. Thoughts on this,Toby and Tilly in the morning, It's
ninety seven point one was CHEFM.We always love getting your take on things,

(22:57):
so please feel free to call usat eight six six wasch FM the
number one, or to have thetalkback microphone to jump into this conversation.
How would you set this up?Jilly? Help me say this in a
way that's succinct because it's a big, broad topic about bosses and motivation.
Absolutely so, they found that peopleare more willing to put up with the

(23:17):
tough love or quote unquote verbally abusivebosses if that boss is highly successful.
I want to be real careful aboutthe words emotionally abusive because that's a very
triggering thing. However, we allknow what it is, and when you
say it that way, you thinkto you don't think about worst common denominator.

(23:37):
You know what I mean? BecauseThe worst common denominator is the stuff
I think that ends up on Lifetimetelevision shows about worst bosses on the planet.
There are some bosses that motivate indifferent ways. Now, they can
be very successful code you know, life coaches, coaches for work, leaders
at work or whatever, and thatin itself can be a thing. However,
when it comes to motivate or coaching, if they treat you like dirt,

(24:02):
I'm not you okay with that? No, So I wouldn't be part
of those people that give them apass. Just because you're super successful and
amazing at what you do does notmake it okay for me to stick around
and be like, Oh, Iadmire you so much. I'll deal with
the disrespect. No, I respectyour point, but I will tell you
that I have been coached and quotemotivated end of quote. And I use

(24:26):
that word very loosely. Right, you want to call it motivated? Okay,
Bye bye bye leaders that if Iwere to throw the flag on the
play now, it probably would notpass muster Like. I had a leader
once who literally held me up againstthe wall by my neck and was like,
just just be raking something. Butyou stick around because they're so success

(24:49):
because this person had been to thehighest of the high end business and I
knew that if I was going tolearn something along the way, I was
willing to look the other way.I had somebody use it to derogatory kind
of word talking about mental conditions andmental health with me, asked me if
I was in this state of mindonce, and I'm like, you don't
have the right to say that tome. You can't. You can't say

(25:11):
something like I didn't respect that leaderat the time, but that ended up
leading to us having a respect forone another. So for me, I
think it's it's a matter of uniquecoaching. The ends justifies the means if
I turn, if I choose toturn my head, I'm fine being in
a high pressure situation like I wouldwork. I would love to work for
somebody like Sarah Blakely who created SPANXright, she's a female entrepreneur. I'm

(25:36):
sure that it would be very stressful, potentially work, and I would put
up with that because she is whoshe is and she achieved what she achieved.
But that's where it would end forme. Is there somebody that you
can think of that you would bewilling to work in a pressure cooker.
You know what, because I wantto pivot off brand a little bit.
People would expect me to say SteveJobs, but I would say this Elon

(25:59):
Musk. I've heard stories about howhe is with people because he's just the
way he is right and sometimes thatrubs people the wrong way. But you
know what, but the dude isa genius. He's arguably a person who
thinks on a different level, seesthe world differently. If I can learn
from that, berate me, Elon, oh be rate me. But if
I can be a part of theteam that invents the next great spacecraft that

(26:22):
doesn't get stuck in space at aspace station, sign me up, because
then I can be like, youknow what, I worked for Elon Musk,
and I learned this, this, this, and this. So I
don't know. Is it a matterof the ends justifies means? Or is
there such a thing as lack ofrespect? Disrespect is no respect and that's
not okay, this is the questionbefore you this morning. And also,

(26:42):
who would you be willing to putup with that stuff? Yeah? Like,
is there a leader that you hadtell us about that person? Is
there somebody that ideally you'd work for? Could it be a bob Iger at
Disney. Maybe you know, justbecause they're successful, does that mean they
can treat you with less respect?Thoughts eight six, six, nine,
seven, forty three sixty one eightsixty six. Wash FM the number one
