Speaker 2 (00:04):
Was f M.

Speaker 3 (00:05):
Welcome to Monday, August twelfth. That's Toby and Chilly in
the Morning on ninety seven point one. Wash f M.
I'm Chili Amar, Toby Nap feeling a little under the weather,
but our producer Taylor Shay is sitting here with me. Hello,
good to see you.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
Good morning.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
How was your little well, I know you and Toby
went to a conference.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
Yeah, over the weekend, we were in San Diego.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
And I was in nag'shead and I'm happy to report
that Debbie Downer did not show up. Hurricane or tropical
storm whatever. Debbie stayed away from where we were good.
But we did get some rough seas the last three
days with the red flag situation, so we couldn't enjoy
the ocean. But overall, we had more time at the

(00:47):
beach than I thought we were gonna get when we
first were going, there were like, of course, another trip,
more rain. This has just been the year for that
for us.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
But it wasn't totally ruined, right, No.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Not at all. I mean we were out there. It
was off and on rain. The last three or four days.
We were there, so anytime there was a gap, you know,
we would kind of run in and go out and
back again. So yeah, overall was fine. Now you went
to what we call like an industry conference and it
was in San Diego. It was so beautiful there, I mean.
And was that the first time you've been to San Diego?

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (01:21):
And was it the first time you've been away from
your two kiddos?

Speaker 4 (01:24):
It was so I have two toddlers, a three and
a four year old.

Speaker 5 (01:28):
That was the first time I have been away for
I was gone three and a half days.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
And were able to truly yeah, how many times? Okay,
So I remember the first time I was away from
my son. He was three or four at the time,
and it was for the same conference that you went to.
And I did my best not to check in too
much with my husband because I wanted to prove that
I could do it. How did you do?

Speaker 1 (01:52):
So?

Speaker 5 (01:53):
I called in the morning to say good morning, and
then I called it bedtime to say good night, and
that was it. I wasn't texting to be like, like,
what's going on? Like I was pretty busy, Like I
thought of them.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Of course, of course you think of them, but it
wasn't now consuming? What are they doing now? Yeah, I'm
really proud of you, Taylor.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Thank you take it about.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I'm raising my co out to you because it's really
hard when you're away from the kiddos for the first
time for an extended period where you actually fly somewhere
and not just down the street. And now that you've
broken the seal, I hope that you take some time
to sort of take more trips for yourself, not just
for work, right hopefully, And I know that you probably
met some cool people. I did.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
I met someone in particular that I'm very excited that
I met.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Was it like an idle thing like in that.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
He is one of my childhood heroes.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
He also works in the broadcasting business, and I got
to meet him at this convention.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Okay, before you go any further, I want to know
did it meet up to your expectations? Because sometimes somebody
you really admire when you meet them, they let you down.
And we'll talk about that. Sty and Chilly in the
Morning continues on ninety seven point one lasch FM. You
I've ever had the opportunity to meet an idol? And
how did it go? It's Toby and Chilly in the
morning on ninety seven point one Wash FM. I'm Chilli

(03:07):
Amar Toby Nap is out, but producer Taylor Shay is here.
And the reason we're asking this question, and by the way,
we would love to hear your answer to said question
at eight six six ' nine two seven four three
six ' one is the Taylor. You got to meet
an idol of yours during a radio morning show conference

(03:28):
in San Diego.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
I did so.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
His name is Dave and Dave hosts a morning show
in Minneapolis. And I'm from Minnesota. And if you grew
up in Minnesota, you listen to Dave, and if you
wanted to be in radio, if you had aspirations of
being a broadcaster, you thought Dave was like everything. And
I had not met him before, and I knew he

(03:50):
was gonna be there, and oh my god him. I
was so nervous and I went up and talked to
it like my hands were shaking, that's how nervous I was.
I was like, Hi, Dave, I'm Taylor Say I work
at WASH and DC he works for iHeartRadio as well,
and he's like, oh, nice to meet you. And I
was like, yeah, I'm I'm from Minnesota. I listened to
you for years and he's like, oh, that's great. And

(04:13):
I said, well, you were kind of a staple of
my childhood. And I said, I bet you hate hearing
that because I'm forty, and he goes, no, I actually
love to hear that.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
He said, you'd be surprised how many people like you
come up to me and say, well, I used to
listen to you on the school bus, and now I
listen to you when I take my own kids to school.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
That's awesome.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
And he was just so nice.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
So he lived up to what you hope it would
be when you met him, because you just don't know
for sure what's going to happen. And what was it
about that meeting that made you think that it was
an awesome encounter.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
Well, Dave is known in the industry of kind of
mentoring the up and comers, and he's always got the
reputation of being a really nice, welcoming person.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
But it's still in the back of my mind.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
It was you shouldn't meet your heroes, and so when
I did talk to Dave, that is so wrong. Dave
was the best hero ever.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Yeah, I'm so glad it worked out for you. And
by the way, again, if you met a hero or
an idol of yours and it went sideways, we'd still
love to hear that at eight six six nine, two, seven,
four three six one coming up next, we would love
to get you into a great morning mindset to start
your day with a quote. As Toby and Chilly in
the Morning continues on ninety seven point one was FM,

(05:28):
It's Toby and Chilly in the morning. On ninety seven
point one Wash FM. I'm Chilly Amar. Toby Nap is
out today, but we still have a quote to get
you into a great morning mindset on this Monday after
the Olympics are over. And because of that, I've found
a quote by Mary lou Retten who said a trophy

(05:48):
carries dust, but memories last forever. Now, we know that
a lot of our athletes won gold, silver and bronze,
and although that's an amazing accomplist for them, over time
those metals are going to gather dust, or they may
be forgotten in the back of a closet, neglected, who knows.

(06:10):
But the memories that you make in achieving that award
will stay with you forever. So you should value the
experience created over the pursuit of material accolades. I will
read that quote once again by Mary lou Retten who
said a trophy carries dust memories last forever. Now you

(06:34):
can find that quote or share your own using hashtag
Warning mindset on the Toby and Chili page at waschfm
dot com and coming up in just a few minutes,
we're gonna get you up to speed on show biz
news and our showbiz buzz. Okay, so we're gonna continue
with the Olympic chatter. Yes, Tom Cruise made a huge

(06:54):
appearance at the closing ceremony of the Summer Olympics. We'll
share that in just a few Toby and Chilly in
the Morning continues on ninety seven point one wash FM.
Good Monday morning, It's Toby and Chilly in the Morning
on ninety seven point one WASHFM. I Am Chiliamar Toby
Nap is out today and it's now time for the
show biz buzz. Well. Tom Cruise definitely appeared at the

(07:15):
closing ceremony of the Summer Olympics yesterday. He jumped off
the top of the stadium in France to mark the
handover from Paris to the La Games. In twenty twenty eight.
He ended up landing on the stage of the stadium,
where he was joined by gold medalist Simone Biles and
also La Mayor Karen Bass, who handed the Olympic flag
to him. Then Tom jumped on a motorcycle and rode

(07:39):
out of the stadium. And then there was this pre
recorded segment where he dove out of a plane over
the Hollywood Sign and positioned the Olympic rings over it.
And then afterwards Billie Eilish, Snoop Dog and the Red
Hot Chili Peppers performed back in Paris. Now you can
see more of the highlights if you want from those
closing ceremonies at WASHFM dot com. Finally, Adele confirmed yes

(08:03):
she is engaged to Rich Paul. This happened during one
of her performances in Munich on Friday night. Rumors of
an engagement started swirling way back in twenty twenty two,
when she attended the brit Awards with a fat, old
damn ring on her ring finger. Disney says it's developing
a stage musical based on the twenty seventeen film The

(08:23):
Greatest Showman, which starred Hugh Jackman, Zach Efron, and Michelle Williams.
That musical is expected to open in England in early
twenty twenty six and then potentially moved to Broadway. And finally,
husband and wife Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, they are
dominating at the box office. Ryan's Deadpool and Wolverine took

(08:44):
the top spot for the third straight week and Blake's
It Ends with US Blue past expectations with fifty million
dollars in its debut weekend to take second place. And
that is your showbiz buzz And coming up next, we
are going to get you caught up on all the
news headlines in Toby and Chile's Top Stories on ninety

(09:05):
seven point one wash FM.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Top Stories Top of the Hour.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Well, the IOC says that US gymnast Jordan Childs has
to return her bronze medal in the four exercise yesterday,
they ruled that the US protest missed the one minute
deadline just by four seconds. However, in the latest development,
eight time stamped video proves that that inquiry was actually
submitted in forty seven seconds and also that is within

(09:34):
the one minute deadline. Meanwhile, overall USA one one hundred
and twenty six medals that is their highest total since
capturing one hundred and seventy four medals in LA back
in nineteen eighty four. Two people have died after a
house explosion yesterday near Baltimore. A reported gas leak turned

(09:55):
into the explosion early in the morning, with a contractor
and the presumed homeowner both dying and twelve families in
the community displaced. A pilot program barring cell phone use
in some Fairfax County middle schools are going to be
expanded to include several high schools, So students at seven
middle schools are going to be storing their phones in

(10:15):
lockers or pouches and can't use them during the day,
and nine high schools will also be participating. Maryland is
going to be holding a tax free week through Saturday,
August seventeenth, as folks get their cards ready for their
back to school items. Officials say that only designated clothing, footwear,
and backpacks and book bags are eligible. And according to

(10:37):
a new study, venting your anger actually isn't the stressbuster
that you might have thought it was. Actually, they found
very little evidence that venting helps you relax. In some cases,
it seems that it actually increases your anger researchers say
that deep breathing or meditation more effective. Your forecast for

(10:58):
today gorgeous, sunny, breezy, High's around eighty five right now
sixty two in on name coming up next. Have you
seen that viral video of the Australian Olympic breakdancer named Reagan.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Well, we're gonna share.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Our thoughts and all the memes that I've been popping
up about her. As Toby and Chilly in the Morning
continues on ninety seven point one, washe f M did
you watch any of the breakdancing at the Summer Olympics.
It's Toby and Chilly in the Morning. At ninety seven
point one was che FM. I'm Chilli Amar, Toby Nap
is out, but our producer Taylor Shay is here. I'm
bringing this up because an Australian Olympic breakdancer has gone

(11:36):
viral for how horribly she did during the competition. Have
you seen this woman named Reagan and any of her
moves and any of the videos.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
I didn't watch it live, but I've seen clips of it.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Oh my god, Well I got to see it live
when we were in Nax said because it was raining
off and on and I honestly thought it was a prank.
I thought she'd infiltrated the whole thing and she was
like a borat situation, like ha ha ha, gotcha, here's
the real athlete. No, she legit at thirty six years old,
was the best that Australia could offer somehow, and she

(12:07):
comes out there. I don't even know if they were
really breakdancing moves. I mean she got zero points tailors
zero zero. Yeah, because she would do Bunnie hobbs. She
would kind of roll around in circles on the ground.
She did this weird thing with her hands. It was
very bizarre.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
One but I saw looked like one of my toddlers
having a tantrum. But yes, on the flip side, she
made it to the Olympics.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Yilly did. And also, I will say this, as much
as I want to pooh pooh her, I'm not sure
we would spend time talking about the break dancing at
the Olympics if it wasn't for her. Right, So, in
some ways, Reagan is getting way more attention than the
country or the athlete who won the gold medal in breakdancing.
And I'm kind of disappointed that the US did not

(12:50):
win because you would think with Turbo and ozone from
back in the eighties that we had this thing covered,
But no, it did not work out that way. If
you want to see some of that silliness, you can
watch Reagan, Toby and Chili page at washfm dot com.
Maybe now you can be a winner.

Speaker 1 (13:09):

back to school? What are we talking about? Eight six
six nine two seven four three six one is the number?
Good morning, Keith part of the show in Laurel. How

(14:01):
are you this Monday morning? I'm doing well, glad to
be back at work after a nice little break. Well,
you've got the question this morning. What do you think
the answer might be? I believe it's eye glasses. Okay, Now,
were you a kid that needed eyeglasses and needed to
get a prescription update before the first day of school? Now,

(14:22):
it took a little bit longer, but it kicked in
a little bit later. Okay, Well that's an excellent guess,
and it turns out that, yeah, fourteen percent of kids
will need to get a new pair of glasses for
back to school. Congratulations, Thank you. You're gonna go see
Cindy Lauper at Capitol One Arena October twenty seven. Thanks

(14:43):
to our friends at Live Nation. Wonderful. Thank you and
if you need glasses, make sure you're taking with you.

The Summer Olympics are over. The closing ceremony last night
included appearances and performances from Tom Cruise, Snoop Dogg, Billie Eilis,
and the Red Hot Chili Peppers as par Is handed
off the Summer Games to LA for twenty twenty eight overall,
Team USA won forty gold medals and one hundred and
twenty six overall. Two people were killed and twelve families

yesterday amid reports of a possible gas leak. Official say
the two victims were the contractor and the presumed homeowner.
Montgomery County police investigating after an anti Semitic graffiti was
found at Bethesda Elementary yesterday. They say that graffiti was

(15:54):
sprayed on the school's crosswalk, sidewalk and sign and specifically
mentioned Israel and the ongoing violence in Gaza. Arlington County
is trying to get more residents to try composting. They've
partnered with an app called Big Belly, and they've placed
several collection bins around the area, so residents can use
the app to unlock the bin that's nearest to them

(16:16):
and drop off food, cooking oil, tea leaves, ground coffee,
and food soiled paper products. And new research looks at
the mental health of communities across the country and they
revealed the ones that are the least depressed. And they
base this on suicide death rates and depression diagnosis. Honolulu

(16:36):
County in Hawaii has the best mental health in the US.
But get this, Fairfax County came in third, Arlington County
came in seventh, and Prince George's County is eighth. Forecasts
four today a stunning day, sunny, breezy, low humidity, eyes
around eighty five. Right now it's sixty four degrees in

(16:57):
Woodbridge and coming up in just a few minute. And
it's you know, there's nothing more frustrating than waiting all year,
saving all that money for summer vacation and having it ruined. Hey,
if you've got a botched vacation story you want to
share with us, we'd love to hear it. Eight six
six nine two seven four three six one. And we're
going to get to that as Toby and Chilly in
the morning continues on ninety seven point one wash FM.

(17:20):
So what ruined your summer vacation? Eight six six nine
two seven four three six one. It's Toby and Chilly
in the morning on ninety seven point one wash FM.
I am Chilly mar Toby Napp is out today, but
producer Taylor Shay is here. And yeah, now that summer
is sort of coming to a close and vacations are ending,
I want to know, is there ever been a trip

(17:40):
that got botched by something?

Speaker 5 (17:42):
Yeah, we were in Virginia Beach a couple of years
ago and we had a little Jack Russell terrier and
she got sick part way through the trip and I
only trusted her vet back here Montgomery Village. So I
rented a car and I drove her all the way
back here so she could be seen by an emergency
VET that we knew.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
Oh my god. And you didn't go back right like
you just no, no, no, what about you?

Speaker 4 (18:05):
You were just on a couple of vacations.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Yeah, So weather was an issue of both trips that
we took this year, which was a bummer because you
don't want it to rain. You wait all a year,
you pay all this money and you have all these expectations,
and even rain can sometimes be a literal DeBie downer.
But it'll never be as bad as two years ago
when we stayed at an Airbnb at the beach and

(18:26):
had to come home because of bed bugs. Bed bugs. Yes,
we were attacked by bed bugs and we had to
cancel the rest of our trip. So that's where the
bar was set. So as we're in Nag said, and
we've got some rain from a you know whatever, tropical storm, Debbie,
We're like, huh, not as bad as bed bugs. What
about you? You want to vent about a vacation that

(18:46):
went sideways eight six six nine two seven four three
six ' one. We'll get to your stories and calls
a little bit later in the show, but first we
want to share a story that we think will make
your Monday. Senior in Fairfax County has created a website
to help people not fall victim to scams, and we're

(19:11):
going to share that as Toby and Chilly in the
Morning continues on ninety seven point one, was It's Toby
and Chilly in the Morning on ninety seven point one
Wash FM, I Am Chiliamar Toby Napp is out today
and every Monday, we love to share a story from
right here in the DC area that we think will
make your Monday a positive story, and this one is

(19:33):
about a student named Advic Atiam. He is currently a
senior at Fairfax High School and he's doing something to
help us all not be victims of scams. So he
is turning something negative into a positive. When Advik was
in eighth grade, he became a victim of a scam
while he was trying to sell some computer parts. I've

(19:55):
been a victim of scams before, like related to paypals,
so you never want to one because anytime you lose money,
it does not feel good. Well, that experience motivated advoct
to create a website that he calls Scam Cops. And
on this website they detail all the latest scam trends,

(20:15):
so you can go to it and see what the
most popular ones are at the time. But there's also
a feature where they have tools that let you describe
a potential scam. So maybe you get an email or
something comes up and you're like, hmm, this looks a
little suspicious. I'm not sure if this is a scam.
If you go on a scam Cops, you can put
in all the details and then there's AI that will

(20:36):
determine if it's an actual scam. You can also answer
like twenty five question. It's a quiz that helps you
determine whether you're being scammed or not. And what's great
is the Scam Cops. Back in May, the website one
first place at the Fairfax Area Student Shark Tank Technology Challenge,
and ADVIK has a bunch of volunteers now that are

(20:59):
doing outreach in Northern Virginia to senior living facilities because,
as we know, the elderly, they're not as technology savvy
and they're often the number one victim of scams. So
we really really appreciate Advig that you're doing such an
amazing thing to help us all, not just seniors, but
everybody so that we don't fall victims to all these scams. You,

(21:23):
of course, can read more about the Scam Cop website
on the Toby and Chili page at waschfm dot com.
And thank you so much for having a story that
definitely made our Monday and coming up in just a
few minutes all the news headlines in Toby and Chilly's

(24:24):
tell us what happened.

Speaker 5 (24:26):
I actually got stung by a jellyfish when I was little,
and I remember it hurting so bad.

Speaker 4 (24:31):
Compared to that it hurts and now as an adult,
that ruined my day for sure.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Oh, thanks so much for sharing that, Amy, And FYI,
I've learned that either meat tenderiser or vinegar helps with
the venom of jellyfish. No need to be peeing on
anybody's body parts. Now we're gonna go to Carol in Manassas.
Tell us what ruined your vacation.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
My mom and dad had saved and saved to take
me to Disney World and we had spent the night
in a Howard Johnson's. There were a lot of flies
in that room.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
So we get to.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Florida to my uncle's house and he said we got
to go to the hospital. Right now. She's running a
really high fever. Can't stop throwing up. Get me to
the emergency room, and the doctors look down in there,
and sure enough a fly had gotten in there and
died and caused a really bad infection. They gave me
medication and I did get better, and we spent one
day at Disney World.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Please tell me, Carol, that at some point in your
life you got to do a do over, whether as
a kid or an adult, at Disney we did.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
We went back when I was eleven years old, nineteen
seventy seven.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
And this time you wore earmuffs to make sure no
flies got in the zone.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
We didn't stay at Howard Johnson's ever again.
