Speaker 2 (00:05):
There's always something to be grateful for as you start
a brand new day. Toby and Chilly in the Morning
ninety seven point one wash FM KT's and for Chili
Amar this morning, I'm feeling good before five honestly because
we're not getting hit by a tropical storm or a hurricane.
There could be some rain, there could be some effects
from this Debbie situation, but knowing people that are more

(00:26):
directly impacted by this whole thing down in Florida and
Georgia and up the Atlantic Coast, I'm reminded it could
be a lot worse. So we should be very thankful.
And if we get some rain, we need it because
there's like a drought situation going on. So that's why
I'm feeling good before five o'clock this morning. No tropical storm,

(00:47):
knock on wood. For now, it's ninety seven point one
washing FM.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Kat. Why are you feeling good this morning?

Speaker 4 (00:52):
I am feeling good because yesterday when we got off
the air, I was driving home and I realized my
birthday was the other day and I forgot to renew
my life. Un So I immediately go to the Motor
Vehicle Administration and then when I get there, I just
see this line and they're like, we're sorry, we don't
have any appointments.

Speaker 5 (01:11):
Love for today.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
Oh and then the lady looks at me, she goes,
but you know what, if I can give you a
quick eye exam, you can go over to the kiosk
and get your license. I was like, yes, in and
out in thirty minutes. That, my friends, is pure joy.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
I hope that my daughter has a smooth sailing of
an experience at the DMB as you did, because I'm
taking days off next week just to handle some of
her stuff that includes an expired driver's license before she
goes back to college in Boston. And if it takes
thirty minutes, that's a win. So good for you this morning.

(01:46):
That's a reason to feel good. It is ninety seven
point one wash FM Toby and Chilly in the morning.

KT Today producer Taylor Shay in the studio, some people

about you, We'll start with you.

Speaker 5 (02:45):
We'll start with don dish Shop.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
I will not go generic on the Dawn Dish soap
and the other thing.

Speaker 5 (02:52):
When it comes to my feet, I will never go generic.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
I absolutely have to have a shoe called a fit

Speaker 5 (03:00):
Out of England.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
It's a little more expensive, but honey, when it comes
to my feet, I gotta have something feels good.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
M anyway, interesting stuff that's better than them breaking right
out of the box. Good to know they call those
fit flops. Alrighty. Then, Taylor Shape producer, oh the show,
where do you stand on this?

Speaker 6 (03:17):
Two things.

Speaker 7 (03:18):
Buttermilk ranch has to be Ken's buttermilk ranch. Otherwise just
give me honey mustard. Oh, and Kleenex. Have you ever
used like these awful ones? You get into office, it's
like seandpaper on your nose. I have to buy the
brand cleaneg.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
I've never known the difference of like Kleenex versus brand
I toilet paper twine for me.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
M again.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
You know, honestly, I don't really worry about generic or
brand name stuff. Speaking of Kleenex, it doesn't matter to me,
you know, because it's all going to end up in
one place, the trash. And so I used to swear
by brand name stuff. I won't buy a knockoff right
because the knockoff can hurt you it, I mean, yeah,
I mean we've read stories about knockoff tech and knockoff

(04:02):
this knockoff. No generic, yes, because generic to me, I
think comes off the same line as the non generic stuff.
It's just one goes this way, one goes that way.
So I'm like, you know what, Hey, save a few bucks,
go to the grocery store, put in your club card,
get two for the price of one.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Why not If I can save, I.

your running meet today. The anticipated decision comes after Harris
met with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly,
and Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz. Over the weekend, several US
personnel have been injured in a rocket attack against the
US military base in western Iraq. It happened at the

(09:06):
Alisad Air Base. It's not yet been confirmed exactly where
the strike came from, but the US Defense Department late
Monday blamed an Iran aligned militia group, calling it a
dangerous escalation. It looks like Fanny May won't be leaving
DC after all. The mortgage lender announced earlier this year
that it had planned to close its headquarters in the

(09:26):
Midtown Center in twenty twenty nine, but fanny May announced
yesterday that it has reached a new agreement to reduce
the space at leases from the building, and a statement
Fanni May officials said the smaller space will allow the
business to be fiscally responsible while still meeting the needs
of its employees and customers. Parents who still need to
get school shopping can get it done. You can do

Controller's Office says that the tax free week will be
running until Sunday, August eleventh through Saturday August seventeenth. Now,
during that time, shoppers won't have to pay Maryland six
percent sales tax on clothing and shoes under one hundred bucks,
and if you're getting a backpack, they will be exempt
on sales tax for the first forty dollars of your purchase.

American Red Cross says that there is an extreme shortage
of blood across the nation. There's been a decrease in donations,
according to Bethany bray Patterson, a spokesperson for the Red
Cross chapter right here in the DC area now. Last month,
extreme heat impacted blood drives across the country, resulting in
a twenty five percent decrease in blood donations. Weather for

(10:32):

into this evening. Today'shigh temperature around ninety five, heat indecks
reaching one hundred.

Quarter of Americans say that they've shoplifted in the last year.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Have you be honest?

Speaker 2 (10:50):
We're not going to judge, and you can stay in
honest eight six ' six wash up in the number
one to tell us your story, will share some and
we'll explain the why this is a thing.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Next is Toby and Chilly in the morning. Continue.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Have you shoplifted anything. Twenty five percent of Americans say
that they've shoplifted in the last year. But why ninety
seven point one WASHFM, Toby and Chilly in the morning,
there's Kat Harris and for Chilium are today and the
numbers eight sixty six wash CHEFM once so you can
call to jump into this conversation. So KT, why are
we talking about this today?

Speaker 5 (11:24):
Well, people are.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
I'm just in a state of shop first of all,
because according to this one in five people have shoplifted,
and the reason is because items are too expensive to afford.
They're trying to make ends meet. And I'm like, is
this really a thing? Have you ever shoplifted?

Speaker 3 (11:39):
Toby?

Speaker 2 (11:40):
I ever shoplifted? I shoplifted once when I was a
kid got caught. I was at like a five and
dimes sort of a store and I got nailed putting
those jelly bracelets in a batter's glove because I was
in there after baseball.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
My mom caught me. I got my tail end blistered.

Speaker 5 (11:59):
Oh you know what. I had something similar like when
I was younger, and you.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
Get you get your butt busted in after that, like
you don't do it? Yeah, no, but is it considered
shoplifting if you walk out of the store and you
did not do anything on purpose, but you realized that
twelve pack of soda that's at the bottom of your
cart did not get wrung up.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
Well, technically yes, because you walked out with something you
didn't pay for. However, you weren't aware of it. So
I would have to lean on Grace a little bit
for that, just because Grace, we've all been there where
we've forgotten something, you know. But to me, if shoplifting
is stealing, it's taking something from a retail establishment you
didn't pay for. In that case, I would have forgiven you,

(12:45):
but I would have lectured you. I've been like, kat,
why did you take this without paying for it?

Speaker 5 (12:52):
The struggle is real, The.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Struggle will never stop being real.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
If you got anything to say if you shoplifted in
the last year, so why why not?

Speaker 3 (13:00):
We won't judge.

You are correct, congratulations.

Speaker 8 (14:53):

Where do you work that's giving you ice cream? And
to KT's point, what flavor?

Speaker 8 (15:05):
So we had klondike bars.

Speaker 5 (19:08):
Oh no, no, no no.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
That one stays.

I just it's impossible for me to do the simple
task of getting rid of clutter.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Don't you think you could bring somebody in that could
do that for you, Like somebody that just goes through
it all and says, you know what, like you to
hate me or love me or hate me.

Speaker 3 (19:24):
I'm going to just do this.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
I've had friends try to do that with me and
they get so frustrated I think they leave.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
True.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
Let's see here, Taylor Shay, who produces the show, what
are your thoughts on this?

Speaker 3 (19:35):
A simple task you just can't do.

Speaker 6 (19:37):
Our fridge ice maker.

Speaker 7 (19:38):
We've had the same fridge for twelve years, and no
matter how many times my husband tells me how to
make it work, I don't know how to make it work.

Speaker 6 (19:45):
Every time I'm like, hey, can you fix the ice maker?

Speaker 3 (19:47):
It's out and he's probably like again.

Speaker 7 (19:50):
Yes, every time he's like, let me show you, I'm like, no,
how about you just do it.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
I'm just trying to figure out, well, like does yours
just not do that? Or do you have to said it?

Speaker 7 (19:58):
And it's operator error. There's too many buttons to push
in a certain order. I just I'd rather he do it.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
Well.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
It stinks getting old and realize you just can't keep
up with buttons the way you used to. For me,
the simple task I can't do. I found this out
over the weekend making my bed the correct way. Apparently
there's a way to make the bed that involves more
than just throwing sheets on it and making it look good.
You have to tuck the sheets in under the mattress, and.

Speaker 6 (20:24):
It's called mire corners. Toby.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
See, I have no idea eithers Toby.

Speaker 9 (20:31):
I'm just sitting here.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
Think it's me making the bed is like fluffing up
the comforter and making the pillows look nice and walk well.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
I used to think that until I found out that
they're miterred corners just seconds to go, and until I
found out that I was doing it all wrong. Over
the weekend, thanks to my significant other. Now I have issues,
but it's a good story. You can't even fold a
fitted sheet at this point. If there's something that's simple
that you can't do, call us now. Eighty six six

Speaker 3 (21:00):
That's the number. Give us a call.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
We'll circle back on this after eight with Toby and
Chilly in the morning. And speaking of numbers, did you
hear this crazy first date story? Genie and Newmarket went
on a first date with a guy who had some
issues with her number. Find out what they were and
how did it affect the date.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
That's next.

Speaker 9 (21:18):
It's Toby and Philly's crazy first date in Newmarket.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Good morning, Jeanie. How are you tell us everything?

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (21:26):
Okay, I will.

Speaker 8 (21:27):
So I went on a blind date. I opened my
front door and I was like, Oh, this guy is great.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
I was really excited.

Speaker 8 (21:34):
At the end of the date, I give him my
phone number and then I told him where I worked
during the date. He called my workplace and said, hey,
you gave me the wrong number. So I gave him
my phone number again and we made plans to meet
up that night. The next thing, I know, he says, hey,
you gave me the wrong number again. Can you give
me your right number? I was like, he said, is

(21:57):
this a purpose? And I was like, no, no, I'm sorry.
So I gave him the wrong number for a third time,
and then he contacted our friends and she got the
right number. So it was just really funny and I
didn't do it on purpose, but I don't know if
he really believed me or not, but he kept trying.

Speaker 9 (22:13):
So at the time, you're giving him your home number
or cell phone number, right, not your work number, because
he clearly could look that up, and that's how he
was contacting you.

Speaker 8 (22:22):
Yeah, and you know, it was back in the seventies,
so there was no cell phone or pagers, so we
had to like call my house number or my work number.

Speaker 3 (22:30):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
So you're kind of like, you know, stuck, right, So
whatever happened, how did he take it when you told
him maybe there's some misunderstanding.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
Oh, he said, oh, okay.

Speaker 8 (22:39):
So then he tried again and then he said, I
don't believe you. It's the wrong number. I can't And finally,
you know, I gave got the right number.

Speaker 5 (22:49):
So it was fine.

Speaker 9 (22:51):
So there was a second date. What happened to that guy, like,
he kept trying and trying.

Speaker 8 (22:55):
He kept trying, and there was a second date and
he's my husband now, so wow, we'll be my husband
for forty nine years.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
I guess his persistence paid off and you over again.
You were able to overcome his doubt.

Speaker 5 (23:10):
Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 9 (23:11):
We're beyond the days of having to memorize people's phone numbers,
even our own phone numbers.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
So you're in luck there.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
Does he still have your number memorized or no, your
original number that he had to work so hard to get.

Speaker 8 (23:22):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
I'll have to ask him.

Speaker 5 (23:23):
I doubt it. I don't even remember it.

Speaker 9 (23:26):
So it's interesting though, back back then, when after maybe
the second time, he didn't just say, look, here's my number,
call me, because clearly you don't know your own.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
No, he didn't.

Speaker 8 (23:37):
He didn't say that or think that, but I think
he probably thought it in the beginning.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
Yeah, she's just messing with me.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Well, you might want to call him and tell him
you're not messing with him right now, provided that you
remember his phone number, because.
