Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand onninety seven point one WASHFM. Welcome to
Thursday, September twenty First, it'sToby and Chili in the Morning on ninety
seven point one wash FM. Iam Chiliamar here with producer Kayla. Toby
out today. He's got a bitof a sore throad. Yeah, yeah,
he called me I'm on four thismorning saying my throat's on fire again.
(00:23):
So yeah, God keeping him homefor the day, he claims,
and he has said this on theair too, that the weather shift.
Yeah, like how it's cold inthe morning and like, you know,
warmer, whatever is happening is alwaysget some Yeah, but I believe we
can't get sick from weather shifts.I thought it was just viruses and make
(00:44):
you sick. That sounds like somethingmy mother would say, you better wear
a jacket because you'll get sick.Yeah, you can't go out with wet
hair because it's too cold. Idon't know. I've heard that a lot.
Yeah, so maybe he is moresusceptible to getting sick. But if
we are going to talk about theweather for a second, the last couple
of days have been my favorite beautifuland I gotta tell you it's kind of
(01:06):
for vanity reasons. Why because theclothes in my closet are better this season.
Yeah, same with you. Somuch easier to get dressed. You're
wearing neutrals, you can wear layers, you can play around with your outphits
more rather than summer. We're justwearing a T shirt and shorts. The
fall color scheme is best for myskin tone. Yeah, so I'm a
(01:26):
big fan. I got my blazeron today, like I love it.
But hopefully whatever you're deciding to weartoday makes you happy. But we are
here the rest of the day. We've got a great show plan for you.
Coming up next. I don't knowif ordering wine at a restaurant stresses
you out, but some Somali Aishave suggestions on what is or isn't worth
(01:49):
ordering when you get the me no, and we're going to share their tips.
Coming up next to Toby and Chilein the Morning continues on ninety seven
point one wash F. If staringat a wine list at a restaurant stresses
you at, we are here tohelp. It's Toby and Chili in the
Morning on ninety seven point one washFM. I am Chiliamar here with producer
Kayla Toby Nap is out today. So there's an article which kind of talked
(02:13):
to different somalias, and those arethe folks that are in charge of the
wine lists at restaurants, and thesetrained wine experts are now sharing how they
know what is or isn't worth ordering. Okay, So when you're sitting there
staring at the list, yeah, they're saying that you should skip wines from
the Bordeaux, Burgundy or Napa Valleyat a restaurant because those regions usually have
(02:38):
a significantly higher markup. Oh okay. Next thing. I know this is
going to sound familiar to you, producer Kayla, because I feel like you've
said this before. If the glassof wine that you're having costs more than
the entire bottle at a store, don't order it. Oh god, yes,
I feel so validated. I wouldfeel so cheap when I would look
(03:00):
up the bottle before ordering, andnow you're telling me I can do it.
You're actually smart that you do that. So you look at you look
at your phone and check how mucha bottle would cost. Yeah. Yeah,
I used to wait till after Ienjoyed the glass to look it up,
but then I would be disappointed,And now I get ahead of it
by seeing if it's actually worse worththe price. All right, here's a
(03:21):
questionable piece of advice on here. They're saying, if you really don't know
what to order, ask your serverfor recommendation. A look, I would
like to trust the server would makea good recommendation. But there's also a
part of me that wonders, areyou recommending that because it's the most expensive.
Yeah, I feel like I'm gonnaget up charged, or I feel
like they're going to recommend a wind. They're trying to get off their shelves.
(03:42):
I've been sitting there for a while. Blow the dust, stop to
bring it over. I do notbelieve they have my best interest at heart.
Oh my goodness. That's why weall need to do some homework before
we even walk into a restaurant. If you want to read some of these
other tips that the Somalia's have, you can check out the article. It's
on the Toby and Chili page andwash eff dot com. Now coming up
next, producer Kayla is going tocome back in here and she is going
(04:03):
to share a quote that is goingto get us all into a great morning
mindset as we inch closer to theweekend. On ninety seven point one WASHFM,
ninety seven point one WASHFM, It'sToby in Chili in the morning.
I am Chiliamar. Toby Nap isout today producer Kayla though she is here
and as she does every morning, right around this time, we'll share a
(04:26):
quote now to get us all intoa great morning mindset. Yeah, and
today's quote says you are not definedby your past, you are prepared by
it. You are stronger, moreexperienced, and you have greater confidence in
your ability to persevere. I knowsometimes life can get really difficult, but
like I like to say to myfriends, you have survived one hundred percent
(04:48):
of your bad days. What's tosay you can't survive the next one that
may come up? And I don'twant to allude to the fact that bad
days are coming your way, butI want you to be proud that you
are wrong enough to handle it.Yes, but I will read the quote
one more time. It says youare not defined by your past, you
(05:09):
are prepared by it, You arestronger, more experienced, and you have
greater confidence in your ability to persevere. And you could find that quote or
you could share your own. Justuse hashtag morning Mindset on the Toby and
Chilli page at washfm dot com.The theme of that is kind of or
rather, that quote reminds me ofthe Miley Cyrus song when I was young.
(05:29):
Oh, I feel like that's thetheme of it. I am not
defined by my past. I wasjust constantly so thank you so much for
sharing that. Coming up next,we've got showbiz buzz and is there some
good news ahead? The Writer's Guildof America strike might be close to ending.

talking about Taylor, shall we.Sophie Turner has been spotted hanging out with
Taylor Swift in New York City, weeks after she and Joe Jonas divorced.
Why does this matter? Why arepictures of them walking arm in arm viral?
(07:25):
Will both women dated Joe or Sophiewas married to Joe Strange? Right?
Meanwhile, rumors we know we're flyingthat Taylor Swift is dating Kansas City
Chiefs tight end Travis Kelsey. NowHis brother Jason, who plays for the
Eagles, seem to have confirmed thatthey are an item. In a recent
interview, he said quote, Ithink they're doing great, and I think
(07:46):
it's one hundred percent true. Thanksa lot, Jason. And Chloe Kardashian

information leading to an arrest and indictmentin the death of a delivery driver.

points to Davis being attacked by acar thief. A House committee has now
approved a bill that would bring changesto the RFK Stadium site and potentially a
new stadium. The bill would seeda federal control of the land to the
DC government under a new ninety nineyear lease. New commercial and residential developments
(09:41):
have been envisioned, along with apossible new stadium designed to bring the commanders
back to DC and a confusing sectionof signs on the Southeast Southwest Freeway is
slowly being changed. Back in twentytwenty one, the Third Street Tunnel was
renamed Interstate one ninety five and threeninety five was extended the full length of
Southeast Southwest Freeway. Maps have thenew names, but the signs themselves have
(10:07):
yet to change. Forecast for todayanother great day, partly sunny skies,
highs around eighty Right now, it'sfifty four degrees in Capitol Heights. Coming
up next, just in time forspooky season, a new survey reveals how
Americans feel about scary movies and alsothey name the most iconic horror movie.
(10:31):
Think about what it is for youand we'll share our thoughts. Coming up

WASHFM. I'm CHILIAMR. Toby napOut Today. Producer Kayla is here with
me, and just in time forspooky season, there's a new survey which
reveals how Americans feel about scary movie. Oh God, the scariest movie I've
(10:58):
ever seen was maybe Hocus Focus.Okay, stop, that's not all right.
So you're not a fan of scarymovie? Are you a fan of
scary movie? I don't like thegore movies, like you know, bloodings
and stuff. I don't mind thepsychological thrillers where there's some sort of like
crazy behavior happening, but no one'sactually you know what I'm trying to say,
(11:22):
Like, there's not a visual scary. Yeah, it's like a mental
Yeah, it's a mind game thatmesses with you. Like sixth Cents is
a great example, like or likem Night Shamalan has Got Gone Girl.
Yeah, that's a good one.Yeah, I mean, but I don't
think that that's a horror movie.You know. I don't know that.
I mean, you and I mayconsider it that I was engine my sea
he got because the number one iconichorror movie, according to this is Friday
(11:46):
the Thirteen. Never seen it,you have, I don't need to.
I like to sleep at night,Julie. Don't care about the Freddy Krueger's
or the Jasons or all those antagonistsin these movies. No, I don't
like those moments where you're like,oh, the music gets intense, you
know, something's about to happen, and on top of that, it's a
visually scary thing that's about to happen. Yeah, I can't handle it because
(12:09):
you can't convince yourself it's just Hollywoodmakeup. No, I go to bed,
it's dark at night, and I'mscared someone's behind the closet. I
don't like it. More people saythey like spooky movies that are eerie and
sinister instead of truly scary ones thatare designed to frighten people. So most
people kind of agree with you andI I think, but yeah, if
this is your favorite time a yearbecause of the movie options, yeah,
(12:31):
I bet you love it. Youcan read more about this on the Toby

us a call eight six six ninetwo seven four three six one in Gaithersburg,
Diana. You've got the question. What do you think The answer is
(13:41):
a car? Oh, that isa great guess. Cars are not cheap,

But unfortunately that's not the answer we'relooking for today. So try again tomorrow.
Okay, okay, thank you. You're welcome. Jennifer and Cheverly,
good morning, Welcome to the show. What do you think the answer is?
(14:01):
You know, I was thinking itmight be a concert. Three out
of ten people going into debt tobuy concert tickets. Well, we all
know how expensive it is to seepeople like Taylor Swift or Beyonce I and
if you're a huge fan, youmay consider going into that kind of debt.
(14:22):
Is that right? Yeah, definitely, that's an excellent guess. It's
also the correct answer. Jennifer.Congratulations, all, thank you, you're
welcome. You're gonna go see JesusChrist Superstar coming to Capitol One Hall in

Parts of Maryland have been placed inthe drought warning category. Western Montgomery
County is in that warning zone, and so are Baltimore, Carol Cecil,
Frederick, Harford and Howard Counties.Folks who live in that drought warning area

today another great day, partly sunny, hides around eighty today. Right now,
(17:07):
it's fifty four degrees in Woodbridge.Coming up next? Is it ever
okay to snack on groceries before youend up paying for the food? The
internet seems divided. We're going toshare some of our thoughts in just a
few minutes. As Toby and Chiliin the Morning continues on ninety seven point
one WASHFM, snacking while you're groceriesshopping? How do you feel about that?
(17:30):
It's Toby and Chili in the Morningon ninety seven point one WASHFM.
I'm Chili. Mr Toby Nap isout today, but producer Kayla is here
And this is a common scenario, right There are some people who may eat
groceries before they pay for the groceriesbecause they're hungry or because they want to
try something. What is your thoughton the whole practice of that? Me
(17:52):
personally, I just have really badluck, so I have gotten to the
cash register and like maybe l mywallet at home or in the car where
if I've already opened a bag ofchips, it's like, well, how
are you going to pay for that? Now? I can't write them in
iou so to eliminate that entire scenariofrom happening, I just wait to eat
until I get into the car afterI've paid. Okay, So as a
(18:15):
kid, your mom never like openedsomething for you while you were sitting in
the car. We normally waited. If it was if I was desperate for
a snack, all right, wewaited until I got into the car.
Well huh, okay, well you'regiving me that. Look, do you
feel the same way or are youa snacker. I'm not a snacker,
but I think it's totally fine unlessit's produced or loose bulk items, Like
(18:38):
I think it's stealing, quite honestly. And I've seen people chow down on
grapes and I'm like, you're lesseningthe weight of that. So technically,
you couldn't pay for something you've alreadyeaten in your stomach. You can't weigh
the grapes or the apple or thepear. So if you're going to do
that just be mindful that you can'tscan that individual item otherwise, Yeah,
(19:02):
who cares, I don't care.Yeah, it's not even if I don't
do it, it doesn't matter becauseyou're you're taking the rapper to the cashier.
Yeah. Some of the cashiers thatwere part of this article in the
survey said the only thing they hateis when you hand the trash to them.
It's like, no, why don'tyou throw that at yourself? You
know, Or you don't warn themthat you opened something and they end up
spilling it accidentally as you're scanning it. It's like, give me a heads
(19:25):
up that you started this bag ofchips. You should also know that if
the reason that you're snacking on somethingis because you wanted to try it first.
A lot of grocery stores will letyou try something, really like a
Trader Joe's. They're like known forthat. Not even if they don't have
a place set up. You canwalk up to a Trader Joe's employee and
say, listen, I want totry this cracker, you know, before
I buy it, and they're veryaccommodating and opening it for you and letting
(19:49):
you try it before you commit.I had no idea. Okay, well
that's what I'll be doing next time, trying every single item up and down
the aisles. It's for hunger reasons, well, snack away, just don't
do it with nasty grapes or cherries. You can read more on the Toby
and Chili page atwashfm dot com. Now, coming up next, it is
Thursday, which means we have anotherone of your crazy first date stories.
(20:11):
Vicas from Fairfax found out the hardway. Yeah, it's not a good
idea to data coworker, especially ifthat co worker is the boss's daughter.
What do you find out what happenedto him? You'll hear it all in
just a few minutes, as Tobyand Chilli in the Morning continues on ninety
seven point one WASHFM. It's Tobyand Chili's Crazy first Date the constant Fairfax.
(20:36):
Good morning, Chili and I arehere because you have a crazy first
date and we are excited to hearthe story. So take it away.
I worked with this small company. There's this girl I was interested in,
and we all sort of knew eachother. Now, the problem here was
that my boss was her father.Oh look at you even, How very
(20:56):
brave of you man? Well,it was, I would say, very
stupid of me, because he wasalso the CEO of the company. Well,
you really did aim highlights. We'reat sixty thousand feet and climbing exactly.
It's not a good situation. Iwas actually advised that I probably shouldn't
get into a personal relationship with herbecause everyone sort of knew that she was
(21:18):
being groomed to eventually be the CEOone day. So the way this went
down, it didn't really start outas a date. And I would talk
to her often, you know, sometimes where we talked about work. We've
been to networking events together. Butit was a Friday afternoons, around four
pm. Everyone was sort of leavingand I said, hey, you want
(21:38):
to grab some drinks, you know, just maybe grab dinner, and you
know, we had some work stuffto talk about, and so she was
like, yeah, sure, andit just went crazy from there. We
ended up drinking a lot, wedidn't even have dinner, and then we
went to her place. Oh well, yeah, it was it was a
quick night. The crazy part herewas when I left, I forgot my
(22:00):
shirt. About three or four dayslater, I go back to the office
and we're having a status meeting, all of a sudden, the CEO,
my boss walks then and he's wearingmy shirt. Well, it was definitely
my shirt. In the middle ofthe meeting, I asked him where did
you get that shirt? But hewas like, I have no idea.
Let me check with my wife. The next day I think it was the
(22:22):
next day or two days later,on my desk is the shirt and dry
clean. It's laying on my deskwith a note that said consider this your
two weeks. Oh my god,he figured out what had happened. Yes,
let's not get this twisted. Youknow what this guy was trying to
say, When you put that shirtback on your desk, you've defiled my
home. So whatever happened to theCEO's daughter, she did eventually take over
(22:48):
a CEO. How have you memorializedthe shirt? I mean, come on,
still wear it? Did you donateit? It isn't my shirt,
I have it. Unbelievable. Tellus you've moved on and you found somebody
else and you've got a better jobnow. Oh yeah, I actually worked
for myself. I started my owncompany. Good for you. I got
married and I have three kids.Go get a babysitter too. For the
(23:08):
kids. Here's why you're gonna gosee the commanders play the Buffalo Bills on
Sunday. Baby. Whoo oh wow. Yeah. Well look, it's the
least we can do. Man,you lost your job because you hooked up
with the CEO's daughter and the CEOcame in wearing your shirt. I mean
that's pretty crazy. It is.Thank you. Wow, that's exciting.
(23:32):
Top Stories, Top of the Hour. A bipartisan group of House lawmakers say
they have come up with the wayto avoid a government shutdown on October first.
Yesterday, a group of sixty fourrepresentatives known as the Problem Solvers Caucus
released a statement saying that they endorsea stopgap funding bill that would run through
January eleventh. Three New York Cityresidents have been charged with larceny and conspiracy
(23:56):
after allegedly stealing from high end storesTyson's Corner Center. About fifteen thousand dollars
worth of merchandise was recovered, andpolice say that New York gangs are targeting
stores all along the ninety five corridorand reselling them in the city. Prince
William County Schools recently announced a changein their remote learning policies for code Orange
(24:19):
Winter Weather Days, so instead ofa virtual day of asynchronous learning with teachers
providing assignment, students can complete ontheir own schedule. Code Orange Days this
winter will include live on camera instructionfrom nine am to two pm. According
to new analysis, over half ofthe renters in DC use more than half
(24:42):
their paychecks on rent and utilities. The report suggests DC isn't doing enough to
create affordable housing for people who aresuffering the most from expensive rents across the
city, especially those east of theAnacostia River. NASA has been keeping an
eye on an asteroid name Benu. It's the size of the Empire State Building
(25:03):
and has predicted that it could smashinto earth in one hundred and fifty nine
years and could potentially wipe out anarea the size of Texas. Forecast for
today partly cloudy skies later hides aroundeighty right now, it's fifty four degrees
in Potomac coming up next. Somy husband and I took a car for
(25:26):
a test drive yesterday and we figuredout a way to make it a pressure
free experience at the dealership. Sharethat with you in just a few as
Toby a chili in the morning continueson ninety seven point one WASHFM. We
all know buying a car can bestressful and lots of pressure, especially when
you go to a test drive. It's Toby and Chili in the Morning,
(25:48):
ninety seven point one WASHFM. I'mChiliamar producer Kalis here with me at Toby
Nap is out today. So yesterdaymy husband and I went to a dealership
to test drive a car. Areno Fun. Don has a fifteen year
old vehicle that's on its last leg. He's been doing a lot of research
and he's decided on this particular vehicle. He wanted to go try it out
(26:10):
and he took me along for tworeasons. One, I'll probably end up
driving the car as well, somy opinion, you know, he wants
my opinion. But two to holdeach other accountable. We were not going
to buy yesterday, okay, yeah, because we were like, we just
don't have time, right, yeah, kind of today is not the day.
So we get there and you know, on the weekends when you go,
you're kind of like bombarded. Theycome at you like vultures before you
(26:36):
even get out of the car.Smell the desperation, like please relax.
Yesterday wasn't like that. What.Yeah. We walk out of the car
and we're like, is anybody here? Like we we walk inside the showroom
and there's like three gentlemen at differentdesks. Yeah, and they see us,
and nobody got up. What wehad to say, Hey, we're
here for so and so. Let'scall them John. Hey, we're here
(26:56):
to meet John. Yeah, thesalesperson. So John walks up to us,
you know, shakes our hand, and he's like, all right,
the vehicle that you had emailed aboutis right outside. And we went outside
and automatically we see it's not thecolor that we had asked for. It's
black instead of graphite. Whatever. It doesn't matter because we're not buying.
Yeah, you're right, you're okay. So we know that if you go
(27:18):
on a lunch time in the middleof the week, it's kind of slow.
No problem, that's great for us. We get in the car,
we do the test drive, Weget back and we're trying to leave and
the guy's like, whoa, whoa, I was gonna do the paperwork he's
and Don's like, no, no, no, we're just here for a
lunch break. We gotta get backto work. Oh, hold your ground,
but we definitely love the vehicle ingraphite. Yeah, the guy says,
(27:41):
well, I mean there's not muchof a color difference. Okay,
sure, if you're paying five figuresfor a vehicle, the color matters.
And that's where the ich moment comesin, right, Like all right,
buddy, when in my husband, who bless his heart, he is so
kind. He's like, listen,if you can find the vehicle and the
color we want and get it tothis dealership, I will come back and
(28:04):
we will talk. And I thinkbecause he could sense that again it was
our lunch break. Yeah, he'dlet it go and we were able to
walk out of there and he wasable to get back to work within an
hour. Wow, So that isI guess the key is to go when
it's slow and then just kind oflet them know. Dude, I got
an hour to get in and out. Yeah. Oh god, everybody's gonna
(28:26):
be going on their lunch break now. Like I'm here in a look,
I got forty five minutes more.Toby and Jilly head over to wastchfm dot
