Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand onninety seven point one was Chapel Good Morning,
My parents named me. Toby.Across from me is Chili, Mr.
Do your very best not to hitsnooze today. It won't be helpful.
Ninety seven point one WASHFM. We'reToby and Chili in the morning.
You dragging a bit because I knowI am. Well, you know,

(00:20):
summer vacation season officially ends for alot of folks. Yeah. Here it
is Labor Day, after Labor Day, getting back to the swing of things.
You know, it's fallen. There'ssome football happening on the TV.
Funny you should say that, ChiliMr. I know that summer's ending because
every year, for the last Idon't know how long, the Legends Football
League that I am in, ourfantasy football league has draft Night in America

(00:44):
on Labor Day, Monday evening atseven thirty. Well, you did this
last night. Yeah, so I'ma little dragon. Not because of a
lot of travel since I last sawyou on Wednesday. Not because the weekend
was long and the wedding out inAnnapolis I went to was great and I'm
tired from that too. No,I'm tired because instead of getting to go
to bed earlier, I had tostay up and finish a draft. Are

(01:07):
you please? For those like youwho do the research and all that,
Are you pleased with the picks ofthe players that you got? I really
am? And you know, here'sthe odd thing about it. This is
the first time since I've played fantasyfootball that none, absolutely zero player on
my team is a player that Ihave an emotional attachment too. Is that
good when you don't have an emotionalattachment? You know what? This year,

(01:30):
I'm playing the game by a differentstrategy, okay, a strategy that
I've inherited from our boss, whois she is big into this fantasy football
stuff. I am playing the numbersand statistics in the league. So basically,
the more time somebody throws the footballand catches the football and scores,
God willing, the more points Iwill score. I've never done it this

(01:52):
way before, so I guess we'llsee what we'll see. Wow, So
on Mondays, if I come invery anxious about the Monday night football game,
you'll know why. Oh good lord. Well, okay, here's to
you and your team and there anybodyelse who's got a fantasy football aimen to
that sister. Now coming up injust a few minutes. What are we
going to talk about? Is weget into this Tuesday morning edition of the
show shaking off the holiday weekend. Before you left, you talked about this

(02:13):
lobster up in New England who predictswhether we're gonna get an early winter.
Passy Peter, move over with PuksitaniPhil. It's Passy Pete. We'll tell
you what the prediction is. Ohboy, stay there. Toby and Chili
in the morning, back in theSaddle on a Tuesday. Welcome to September
fifty thing. So last week beforethe break, Toby and Chili in the

(02:37):
Morning at ninety seven point one WashFM, we introduced you to a crustacean,
a crazy crustacean, a lobster,if you will, whom, much
like puk Sitani Phil, up inPennsylvania, can predict whether or not we're
going to have an early winter ora late winter. Passy Pete is his
name. Yes, lives in Maine, and well we can tell you this

(02:57):
morning that winter is on its way. What Passy Pete says winter is coming?
Well, yeah, we kind ofknew that, I know, but
it's not gonna summer is not gonnalast six more weeks. Well, so
somebody didn't give some of the memobecause it's going to be triple digits today
around here. Yeah, but notfor six more weeks. You see in
the fall in October, it's goingto feel like October locally. You do
bring that up. We are definitelygoing to have a serious heat I guess

(03:21):
wave if you want to call it. There is a heat alert locally through
Thursday. And DC Mayor Muriel Bowseris doing something you think the rest of
the DMV should do. Yeah, she's keeping the pools open, the city
pools in DC. I'm like wonderingif I can go down and like declare
myself to be a DC resident fora few days. Yeah, she's keeping
them open until September twenty First,I really do believe this has to become

(03:43):
a thing eventually in the DMV,because data shows it's not like temperatures drop
though quickly after Labor Day. I'mguessing it's a staffing issue for a lot
of pools. But still I thinkit's valid to keep pools open. Well,
I think it's account on the lawdepending on which county you live in.
Change. Here's the thing though that'sinteresting, is it's not a universal

(04:05):
law. Like there are places Iknow, yeah, that have pools that
will be open until October around here, but those are like private places probably
well, I don't know. Ifeel like a sister property to the company,
you know, the one that Ilive in, Okay over near Reel
or whatever. I was told hastheir pool open until October or it starts

(04:25):
to get cold. I think that'sso whichever comes first, right. I
think if you have three or moredays of let's say, temperatures dipping below
seventy or whatever, pick a picka temperature, that's when you should shut
the pool. Sure, But whenit's one hundred and ten degrees, get
the chlorine out and shock that thing. Keep it open for the good and
welfare of the residence in the citizenryhere here, much like Mayor Bowser is

(04:48):
doing. My name is Tobias Exavianapt Fat and I'm going to run for
county executive on the pool platform.I think it's coming though. I think
the days of pools staying open lateraround here are coming. That cheap the
pools open. If you support ourcampaign, give just five dollars, just
five dollars now, no, I'mserious, it would be a heck of

(05:09):
a campaign platform. The pool platformcheap. The pool's open until ice and
frost are on our windshield. It'sninety seven point one WASHFM. Now producer
Kayla is out today's filling a littleunder the weather. She's got that thing
that everybody seems to be getting that'sgoing around. However, we do have
her morning mindset on the way.We found a quote. We'll share it
with you to get your mind right. On this Tuesday, September fifth,

The pool platform cheap, the poolsopen until ice and frost are on

out today, still a little underthe weather. She's got that thing that
everybody seems to be getting that's goingaround. However, we do have her
morning mindset on the way. Wefound a quote. We'll share it with
you to get your mind right onthis Tuesday, September fifth, in the

(08:31):
nation's capital, that's next day.Now it's time for what we call Producer
Kayla's morning mindset. The only problemis Producer Kayla's under the weather today to
be in Chile in the morning.Ninety seven point one WASHFM, So chilling
went to work to find some wordsthat we hope will inspire you on this
Tuesday, September fifth. Ralph WaldoEmerson said, what lies behind you and

(08:52):
what lies in front of you palesin comparison to what lies inside of you.
Well it isn't. It's inside ofyou that's ultimately going to take you
to where you're going to go,and it's ultimately is what it is because
of where you've been so far inthis little journey we call live. So
there's something what Ralph Waldo Emerson hasto say that's right. So where it

(09:13):
will what is inside of you takeyou today so that it can shape your
tomorrow. I love it if youthink about it. That's a very very
strong piece of wisdom today. Solet's hear that quote one more time.
What lies behind you and what liesin front of you pales in comparison to
what lies inside of you. Now, if you've got a quote that you'd
like for us to share, youcan always tell us all about it on

(09:33):
the Toby and Chili page atwashfm dotcom using the hashtag morning mindset yep.
Or even better yet, just spamall of us, send us all an
email and put the quote right init, and you never know, you
could be featured in this space tomorrowmorning. Right here, it's ninety seven
point one WASHFM till we are Chiliin the morning. Very busy a weekend

(09:54):

Congress is set to return to DCtoday after its summer recess. There
are a number of issues on theagenda, including a potential government shutdown looming
in the coming weeks. First LadyJill Biden has tested positive for COVID her
offices. The seventy two year oldis experiencing mild symptoms and she's expected to

(13:00):
remain at her home in Delaware.Meanwhile, the White House says a President
Biden has tested negatives so far.A heat wave expected to bring one hundred
degree temperatures to tens of millions ofAmericans this week. Locally, DC Mayor
Muriel Bowser has declared a hot weatheremergency through Thursday, so city pools are

going to stay open through September twentyfirst, a shooting last night in Montgomery
County has left one person dead andtwo others wounded. A man was arrested
and police believed the shooting was aresult of a domestic dispute. Residents across
DC and ten states saw a brilliantflash in the night sky on Sunday night,

(13:43):
which was declared a major fireball event. Fireball is defined as a piece
of asteroid or comet that enters theEarth's atmosphere. A mobile service center to
help Prince William County residents access courtservices is proving to be very popular.
Seals on Wheels was launched back inMay and is available on select Saturdays.

(14:05):
Residents can file marriage license and notaryapplications, firearms permits, and even access
other needed services. And finally,Delta thomps a new airline index as the
best domestic airline in the US foron time arrivals service and more, coming
in second place Southwest, followed byHawaiian Airlines. Forecast forward today heat alert

(14:31):
in effect through Thursday, otherwise partlycloudy ninety eight. The high right now
seventy three in Suitland. Thank youvery much. Chiliamar, Hi, I'm
Tobias Xavier Napp to third. That'snot on my driver's license. I'd just
say that to feel more like I'mfrom Potomac Trust Fund. It's a thing
we're tilby in chilly in the morningand coming up in a few minutes.
Camping, glamping, camping or glamping, regardless of what you call it,

(14:56):
it's a lifestyle. And somebody's beenbitten by the bug. Find out who
and why they came around to saidnew camping glamping lifestyle coming up in minutes.
It still be in Chili in themorning, continues on a tooth.
Are you a part of the campingor glamping culture? Ninety seven point one
wash FM. We're still be inChili in the morning. Well, if
you're not, you might be afteryou hear how the bug bit chiliamar over

(15:20):
holiday Chili. You are now allabout all things glamping out. Oh absolutely,
And the bug that bit me wasnot just the mosquito. It is
such the lifestyle, I tell you, and I know you know because you've
been doing it for years own upcamping. We went to one of those
camp sites that has like a sectionof RVs. They have a section of
tents and a section of like cottagesslash cabins, And of course we opted

(15:43):
for the cottage because I'm like,Chris won't find chili in a tent?
Well, I, yes you would, but only for one night. I
wouldn't be doing it for three nightslike we did over Labor Day weekend.
Come on, There's just something aboutnot sleeping on the floor at this age
that I'm a fan of. AndI like the see with the hot flashes
and white well now you know, the camp grounds and the whole as you

(16:04):
put it, camping culture is somethingthat I didn't realize I was gonna love
as much as I did. Thelaid backness of it, the fact that
people don't care what they look likewith the hairs up in mums. They
don't covered in dust and mud anddirt and all this. We went tubing
down the Shannondoah, you know, driving around the golf cart, which I

(16:25):
gave my husband a hard time aboutrenting, but I was so glad we
did because we're waving at each other, and these people who do the RV
lifestyle, you know, they've gotthat thing souped up really nice, dude.
It's laid back, it's relaxed. These people who do the glamping thing
and they have like their glamping cabins, they are decked out. They've got
TVs, satellite internet, like,oh, they've got everything they need to

(16:48):
survive quasi off the grid yet onthe grid because you still have watch.
And you could tell the people whodo the RV or the camper thing on
a regular basis by all the soupedup things that they bring with them and
the oh set up, they've gotit down to a science. Yeah.
Would I would tell you there's adifference between the camping and glamping lifestyle than
the rving van life lifestyle. Yeah, that's the next step for you.

(17:10):
That is a completely different ball awayexactly. And it was just it was
like being a part of a andI'm saying this in a good way,
a cult. Yeah, And itwasn't that club cult. Is cult is
kind of like sinister. I meanit's a club. Yeah, a lifestyle.
Will definitely be dipping our feet intothis lifestyle again in the future.

(17:32):
I'm telling you what you need todo is you need to go to like
Cruise America and rent an RV andlike just drive that to what do they
call that at the assetque or whatever. Apparently a STEQ island. You can
just drive right up to the waterin an RV. And my significant other
and I have been talking about doingthat. I just don't trust myself driving
something that exactly. But anyway, well, welcome to the lifestyle Chili,

(17:53):
Mr Glamping experts, and if you'vegot some glamping tips you want to share.

(20:27):
President Biden has tested negative and willcontinue being tested this week and monitored for
any symptoms because he scheduled to leavethe US on Thursday as he sets off

Shintilly. That's Chilian Marsh she's gotthe news. Me. I'm Toby Napp,

(22:15):
just trying to keep everything together ona Tuesday, as we shake off
a holiday weekend together in the nation'scapital. It's ninety seven point one WASHFM.
So remember that first time that youhad a friend come along on a
trip with your family. Remember thatHow did that go for you? Well,
that was another first that happened overthe weekend. Find out how it

(22:36):
went for somebody on the show comingup, it's Toby and Chilli in the
Morning. Continues on this Tuesday,it's ninety seven point one washing. Then
maybe you were this person wentz upona time. We're Toby and Chilli in
the Morning. It's ninety seven pointone WASHFM. Maybe you were that friend
that went along with a friend ona camping trip or on a trip away
someplace, or maybe you remember thatmoment when a friend came with your family.

(22:57):
This happened for you chilli over theweekend while on break. Yeah.
So, my son is an onlychild, and I had mentioned before that
it's really tough for my husband andI to keep him entertained. Well,
we're old, right older, andhe wants somebody his age to play with.
So for the very first time,we took somebody who's just a year
and a half older than my sonDenado. It was my cousin's son,

(23:19):
and he came with us on ourcamping trip for three days, and boy
was it a game changer. Sotell me why was this so game changing?
And why would somebody who might havea kid the same age want to
take a family friend or a memberof family that's kind of close in age
along on a trip. Besides thefact that there's sort of an automatic playmate,

(23:41):
so that you're sort of off thehook and having to do things with
your kid over and over again,a couple of other things happen. One
this other kid was on his bestbehavior, right, so anytime we asked
him to put his electronics away, you know we're going to have a conversation
at dinner, he didn't argue back, and so my son looked over and

(24:02):
was like, all right, Iguess I gotta put mine away too.
The other thing that happened, whichwas really cool, is him coming out
of his shell. So we wereat this water park with all these different
slides, and normally Donato would neverdare go on those slides because he's too
afraid. But when he saw hisfriend doing it, he's like, Okay,

(24:22):
maybe I'll give this a try.So he found his brave, which
was great because it wouldn't have doneit if we told him that's right.
Well, he kind of had todo it because if the friend's going to
do it, well I need todo it too. It's right. The
phamo was real? Wasn't just real? The phone was gonna shame you into
doing it. Yeah, So I'vealready booked this kid for future trips.
There you go, And the bestthing about it is it doesn't cost thirteen

(24:44):
to fifteen dollars an hour, youknow, the price that you might pay
a sitter to come on. Thatwas really great, good stuff. Well,
I'm glad that everything worked out welland that Denato now has a companion
when you go a traveling We'll tellme chili in the morning. Coming up
next up, boy, what isit that caused Alexis from Clinton's Crazy First
Date to stink no no pun intended. You'll find out that's what makes the

(25:07):
date crazy. Coming up in minutes. Another one of your crazy first date
stories is Toby and Chili in theMorning continues on this Tuesday ninety seven point
one Wash FM. It's Toby andChili's Crazy First Date Alexis and Clinton.
Good morning, how are you?I'm sorry and thank you? How are
you? I am so much betternow that I'm talking to you, and

(25:29):
Chili is here too, and wewant to hear all about this crazy first
date you went on. Tell useverything. Well, I'm going to start
off by telling you that it wassort of a blind date. My friend's
cousin invited me to go see earthWind of Fire at what used to be
the Coldsdale House at Maryland University.Yes, and on the day at the
concert, he came to pick meup, came around to the passenger side

(25:53):
open at the door for me,which I thought started off very night.
I got in the car, hewent around and got into the driver's seat,
and he sat on a baggie andin that baggie there was a sandwich
and of all sandwiches to sit on. It was a sardine sandwich and a
baggie. I can already smell it. I could smell it too, I

(26:17):
could smell everything that was born atmayonnaise, mustard and onions. She still
remembers after all this time. Ithink it's because the sardine causes all of
your senses to go through the roof. You're like, it really did.
So he said, oh wow andtried to wipe it off. I tried
to help him, but we stillcontinued on to the show, or to

(26:37):
the promser so we got there.I think he asked me could I smell
it? And I said no,but really I could so. More than
halfway through the show, it wasjust getting embarrassing, and I told him
that I wasn't feeling them well, and it was quite prouded. So I
told him I was beginning to getclusterphobic and I really needed to get out
of there. So he offered totake me home, and I told him,

(27:00):
no, you stay and enjoy theshow. I called a friend to
pick me up and I left, and no, I didn't see him again.
Now, if he had not seton the sardine sandwich that caused all
of your senses to light up likea Christmas tree. Would you have entertained
the idea of seeing him again,Alexis. I might have entertained the idea,
but it went bad from the beginning. The sardines just really turned me

about this coming up in just afew minutes. Stay with ninety seven point

to a short term vacation rental houselike an Airbnb or a Verbo eight six

(31:07):
morning here at ninety seven point oneWASHFM. What boxes do you feel like
you need to check? And Iknow you've kind of gotten into the airbnb
thing a little bit chilly, Sowhat do you look for when it comes
to a good Airbnb house? Well, obviously really good ratings, but for
us, it's sort of the amenitiesfor sure, Yeah, I mean,
and the location matters. What aboutyou? Those sound a lot like the

(31:30):
boxes I look for, Yeah,But within the amenities, what do you
care about? Because I know thatyou just stayed at a place in Annapolis
and It became one of my favoriteplaces that I've ever stayed in a short
term rental really really quickly because itchecked off all of my personal boxes.
Number One, I love great design, you know what I mean. This
is a house I know I couldprobably never afford, or some design I

(31:52):
could never afford to do. SoI look around and I windows shop on
the websites, and I found onein Annapolis, like back in March when
I found out that a friend ofthe family was getting married, and I
said, I want that one becauseit was a historic home on a historic
street in a historic part of Annapolis, just steps away from everything that's awesome
to do. In a pretend likethat's your home. How the other half

(32:15):
lives for a couple for a fewdays. And let me tell you,
I loved the fact that this housewas built an eighteen hundred. But you
opened the door and it's modern inthe side, very nice, flipped in
a perfect way. It was wonderful. Was there a nice bottle of water
that the hosts left? There wasa nice bottle of wine? What yes?
And some old big crab chips.See apparently the owners, I guess,

(32:37):
hired a company to manage said youknow, vacation rental type place,
and they left wine and I've gotto tell you, I mean that was
just a nice touch. Now weknow why they get five stars. Oh
and then the amenities that they putin the bathrooms, which were immaculately redone
too, you know, because someplaces all flip the kitchen, but they

(32:58):
won't flip the bathroom. That's true. R they it was like going to
Disney, where they used to giveyou like these little small bottles of really
good stuff that you wanted to goand buy and take home with you.
Sometimes when you brought one of thesenice homes, it's like you want to
spend more time inside the home thanoutside. You're like, well, so
much for taking a trip to thistown. I'd rather spend the next couple
of days like just chilling out inhere. I'm telling you. After the

(33:20):
wedding, I was like, man, I'm glad this was a wedding that
happened in the afternoon, was doneby two three. I can just go
sit in the backyard of this placeand light up a fire pit. And
I did. No. This placewas really really special, steps away from
everything, so it checked the locationbox. The amenities we just talked about
and the price was awesome. Butthe best thing about it chilling communication.

(33:44):
The management company was on top ofeverything starting like Wednesday of last week.
That's really cool, just touching baseand you couldn't you can't. I did
your daughter enjoy it? Because Iknow she's very picky about your choice.
You should say that, chilly becausethat was the line of the weekend.
Dad, pat on the back. What's that for, honey? Good job,

(34:06):
says my nineteen year old child,Kyla, Wow, she goes You
finally picked an airbnb in Annapolis thatdidn't make it will make me feel like
we were going to see Mimi andPapa. Oh my god. That's awesome
And I'm like, well, Iguess that means we won the short term
rental game, at least for aweekend. And by the way, if
you want to see the house thatwe stayed in, I've got the link
for you. Toby and Chili paigewashfdot com too. Get up
