Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hey guys, this is Kyle Brandt and after his third
win of the season, I got the very special treat
and I will call it that to sit down with
Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears quarterback before he goes to London
to take on the Jaguars. We talked about all kinds
of stuff, the expectations, is he a savior?
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Is he a messiah?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
We got into it. Caleb was really really cool. Check
it out and thank you as always for listening to
the GMFB podcast.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Kayleb Williams, this is very exciting. It's great to meet you.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Man. Yeah, same here, same here.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
You have so much going on right now on the field,
off the field. How's life.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Yeah, life is great. You know, uh, playing football a
little bit different than college. You know, you don't have
to go to class every day, you don't have to
do all those things. So it's been it's been awesome.
It's been great to be here, to be around these people,
my teammates, brothers, you know, the staff and everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
You know, it's been it's been a joy.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Something's different from college. Somethings stay the same. You are
famously on record that you have not been nervous since
your first high school game. We are now five games
into your pro career. Is the non nervous streak still alive.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Yeah, the non nervous streak is still alive. The rusty streak.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
You know, I was a little rusty, I would say
in the first game, kind of just getting back in
the floats. You know, it's a while of uh playing
actual real game obviously, you know practice or you know
they're tough and all.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
But you know, when you when you're in game and.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
People can actually you know, come tackle you and chase
you down and do all these different things, different blitzes
and stuff like that, you know you can you know,
get hit or whatever the case may be. You know,
it's a little different. But you know, we've been in
a couple either two minutes or you know, a tight
game so far, and or or even just you know,
(02:18):
starting off the game, and you know, I feel I
feel good.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
I feel like that. I feel like I'm out there
just playing football doing something I love, and I don't
feel the need to be nervous.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
I would say, I feel prepared, and I also feel that, uh,
you know, I've been doing and doing this and playing
football for so long that it's just another game, and
you know, you prepare that way.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
I really did. Coach Fluse, I got to meet him,
went in the office. He's got the whole shrine behind
his desk. He's huge on Bear's history.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Ye.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
My question to you this, this desire, this desperation, this
thirst from the fan base for a franchise superstar quarterback.
How aware are you of it?
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Yeah? I think I think you can tell.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
I think from the first time that you know, you rant,
or at least I ran out in the field, you know,
hearing the crowd go absolutely crazy and and and you know,
screaming and roaring and all these different things, you know,
whether it's you know, here myself or hear my teammates
or anything like that when they ran in the field.
(03:22):
You know that I think these these people are starving for,
you know, to win, starving to you know.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
Get this thing going.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
And I just want to be a you know, a
piece of it, a part of it, to be able
to help you get going.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
You said starving, I said thirsty. They're both true. And Caleb,
I've done the work here. I have some terms and
some phrases that the Bears fans have used to described
you and what you mean to the future of the franchise.
I want to just get your reaction. It's gonna bounce
these off. You just tell me what we think off
the top of your head. Future of the franchise.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
That's a that's a goal, you know, I've I know that, Uh,
I know that.
Speaker 4 (03:59):
You know this past couple of years that they've had
many different quarterbacks and so and I'd like to be
in place for a really long time.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
So that's a goal of mine.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Savior, That's just that's it's just funny. I can't necessarily
be the Savior by myself.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
You know.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
It's a it's a team game, you know, all different
parts of it, and so, uh you know, it's that's
a funny one.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
You're so good at this, and I'm gonna test it
because this is my favorite one.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
You're ready, Messiah, Messiah. I think when I when I
hear that, I think of I think of Dune, Dune too,
Dune and things like that. You know, even that movie.
I couldn't have done it all by himself. So it
goes to it goes to having the team and you know,
(04:48):
the guys behind you and believing in you and believing
in offense, believing in each other and having that bond
to be able to go out there and win. So
that's a that's another one that's kind of the.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
The funny area. It's kind of funny.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Caleb. You're blowing my mind right now? Are you telling me?
Do you relate to Paula Trades the.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
No?
Speaker 4 (05:10):
No, no, I just I just make the connection because
you know that's all you hear in that movie and
and so, uh, you know, I think it's, like I said,
kind of funny.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Man of the fremen As written. I love it, dude,
I love those movies. I love you. I also know
you're unbelievably competitive and goal oriented. Have you been checking
out how Jade and Daniels is playing?
Speaker 4 (05:32):
Yeah, you obviously you obviously watched the guys around the league.
You watch all the whether they're rookies or they're the
guys that's in their nineteenth year like a ra and so.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
You know he's been I mean they've been balling over there.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Cliff and Cliff and Jaden over there have been connecting.
I've been around Cliff so I know what type of
guy he is. Been around Jayden, I know what type
of guy he is. And so you know them two,
you know, been in the same room together. Obviously they're
going to do great things and that's what they've been doing.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Do you still have your goals as your phone screensaver?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
You still keep that? I do.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
I do keep a keep a good constant reminder of
myself and you know what I'm what I'm striving for
on the on the easy days, on the good days,
on the bad days.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
You know, just a just a constant reminder.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
I've heard you say that you are chasing one guy,
that you're chasing number twelve, You chasing Tom Brady.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Is that true? Yeah, I mean there's no I think
when you reach a point.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
In your career or anything like that, that I got
a bunch of trophies, I got a bunch of this
and that I think the only thing that matters at
the end of the day, though, that is you know
that end goal and that's the championships, and the best
guy that's ever done it is number twelve number you know,
(06:55):
Tom Brady, And you know you set goals for yourself
like that, you know those are goals that you can't reach,
goals that you can't reach, and you know a year
or two. Those are goals that you know that that
take a long time. And so ye know, creating that process,
that routine and having those goals, you know right there
(07:15):
in front of myself, you know, helps me to you know,
keep going striving for something.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
You know that that you know, I really do want.
I'm really you know, I'm striving for it.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
And uh yeah, that's the I think that's the guy
when you get in and and positions like this that
you want to go and Chase want to go, and
you know, look up to and and and you know,
try and reach and reach and all reach all his
goals if you can.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Well. I remember at one point in the middle of
his career, Lebron was saying, I'm chasing this ghost in Chicago,
you know, he was talking about MJ and he was
really clear on that, and I thought it was very
cool as it pertains to Brady, what specifically are you chasing?
Like you want to win seven Super Bowls?
Speaker 4 (07:56):
Yeah, I just want to win. That's the That's the
biggest thing that comes down to. I don't I could
care less about stats. I could care less about end
goal stats. I can care less about all these different
things other than that that one stat. I think that's
the biggest stat in all of sports. Whether you're looking
(08:17):
at swimming and Michael Phelps or you're looking at some
own bios.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
You're looking at, uh, Michael.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
Jordan, Tom Brady, I think that's a stat that stands
out to everybody, is that he was a winner.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
They were all winners. She was a winner. Uh.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
You know, I think that's the biggest stat in all
of in all of sports. And so you know, being
able to accomplish that, obviously, you have to do the
right things, uh, day in and day out. You have
to have a great team, great teammates, you know, great
coaches and and and all.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
These different things that that have to you know, lead
up to it.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
But you know it is that is the goal of
mine is just to just to win and and and
you know, being that end game, you know, as much
as possible.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Totally respected. I love that you mentioned Phelps and Bios
and all the greats. It's not just football, all across sports.
The people that you're looking at, Caleb, It's come to this.
I've got to ask you, paint your fingernails. Yeah, it's
unique for those who don't know. Why do you do that?
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Yes? I first started off.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
My mom is a she's she's done nails for I
don't know how many years now, but ever since I
was young, she's she's been doing nails.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
And so.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
One day just kind of at the nail salon, was like,
you know, I forget it. I'm just gonna you know,
I'm just gonna try it. And then that was in
high school and now I've been doing it all through
college and so now it's been I don't know six
years or so six seven years now that I've been
doing it, and it's just, you know, I enjoy it.
There's been times where I've I've thrown certain motivation on it.
(09:47):
There's been times where I've thrown awareness on my nails
for different causes and things like that.
Speaker 3 (09:54):
You know, I think it's unique to myself and it's
it's me.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
I think it's incredibly cool. I think it makes you original.
The online reaction to it range is from everything from
amused to ignorance to actually hateful. Yeah what if you
make of all that?
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (10:13):
I think everybody has their own opinions and and and
my goal for myself and my goal understanding all of that,
and and and you know, everybody's gonna have their own opinions.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
You know.
Speaker 4 (10:28):
When I was when I first started, it kind of
bothered me when people say stuff. And then and then
I came to a certain point where I kind of
treated like my football career. You know, I don't I
don't really care, you know, what people have to say
about it, especially from people that I wouldn't ask for
advice from. If you have something to say, and I
(10:49):
wouldn't ask for advice from from you. I don't think
that it goes or I even think once about it.
And so it's it's one of those things that everybody
has their own opinions.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
You know. You may not like how I do this,
may not like how wear this, but you know, it's me.
It's how I am, it's and it's it's unique to me.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
How do you think a painted finger would look with
the Super Bowl ring on it?
Speaker 3 (11:15):
That'd be pretty sick, wouldn't it be pretty cool? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (11:19):
I mean that's obviously a goal and and have a
you know, we we we we we reached the super Bowl.
May do that, you know, may may paint a super
Bowl ring on it, just you know, it'd be that'd
be a cool thing. And then you know, hopefully win
and you know whatever whatever point that may come, and
(11:40):
and then be able to throw the you know, the
ring on that finger, which would be really cool.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
And then he really will be able to walk across
Lake Michigan. Taylor, before you go, I want you to
know how cool it is, how original you are. You
motivated me to do something that I have never done before.
I walked into a nail salon and.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
I went first. Man, I think I got mine too.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yeah, pretty cool, right, I like it? Yeah, origin, I
got blue.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
You dig it. Yeah, it's cool.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
You can do it, and you can paint and do
all cool things on it, different designs and different colors,
and you know, I think it's I think it's a
cool thing.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
I think you're a cool thing. I think you're unapologetically original.
I think you're a great leader for the Bears. I'm
very excited to have you represent my hometown. It was
great to meet you. Will you give me a bear
claw on the way out? I got you, my man, Caleb,
You're the best. Thank you be nice to meet you.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Brother. Yeah, same here. Thank you again,
