Speaker 1 (00:02):
Jordan and Jake. I go good, I'm excited, ready to go.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
The bump stots he throws at a crossfield.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Guess who, George Grouse.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Here are your Panther Hall of Honor numbers, Jordan Gross
and Jake Delome.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Jake, we won a game, Jake, we beat the Raiders.
Who who.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
It's been awesome wearing.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
My panther gear around town, Jake. People are congratulating me.
How's it feel to you?

Speaker 2 (00:35):
It feels great. Loved watching the game the other afternoon.
It was awesome, had the game on TV, had Luke
and a Niche and and Zoke and the boys on
the radio would listening to them while watching the game,
so it was awesome. I just I was so fared
up just to see some of the precision we played

(00:55):
with on offense, watching us run the football, which according
to all experts, we had no talent on this football
team whatsoever, and it's hard to find them this week.
But anyway, I guess they missed the six point five
yard per carry average that we had in week two,
but look, it is what it is. But and yeah,

(01:16):
I wore my panther gear before we won and after,
so you know, I'll go through thick and thin, Jordan,
unlike you, only after a win. I didn't say, I mean,
I didn't say I only wear it after a win.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
I just say I was happy to wear it. Sometimes
I'm unhappy to wear it when everybody likes to throw stones,
as you've indicated with the pundits and whatnot. But I
was happy to wear it this week off a big
win behind Andy Dalton. But before I dive in, there's
stats to talk about. There's things that I sometimes have
had to try to avoid running this podcast. There's a

(01:50):
lot to talk about. How's everything going with you, buddy?

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Can't complain, Buddy, we're you know, it's still in essence.
I know fall has officially started. We're supposed to get
a little cool front this evening, which we'll knock it
down to about sixty six at night and only get
up to the mid eighties. But that cold front did
help push this hurricane that's gonna go to Florida, so
we in essence dodged another one. Unfortunately, Florida's gonna get hit.

(02:17):
But other than that, man can't complain. Just rolling along,
looking forward to getting up to Charlotte this weekend for
the game.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Does your family like it when you're home for an
off week like you were for the Raiders game, or
is it like what are you doing here? Jake?

Speaker 2 (02:31):
No, they were happy. We were quite busy. It wasn't
like it was a relaxation. We were in New Orleans
at a volleyball tournament Friday and Saturday until late Saturday night,
so it was a It wasn't like it was some
rest and relaxation. I'm not exactly sure how if that
occurs at this household.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Is that I think you resting and relaxing is like
your four am coffee.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, watching the Yes, exactly.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
That's when you rest of relax.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
I'd like to hear. I'd like to hear about the
Grizzlies if you don't mind, Well.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
We're foreign o, Jake, since you asked. It was a
homecoming game against a local team, non conference opponent. We
won twenty one zero. Weren't that we weren't that sharp
on offense, But I'll take the twenty one zero. But
it's a big weekend when there's a small town homecoming
game with all the festivities. The best part is it
was halftime. We're we're up fourteen zero at halftime, not

(03:28):
feeling great about our offensive production, We're gonna make some
halftime adjustments. And you're like, you know, our one of
our receivers are our guard you know, key players. We're like,
okay when they when we roll this formation, this guy's
auto blitz and you got that. And then you realize
that that player is part of the homecoming court that's
doing their halftime festivities. So you're like, oh, okay, well

(03:52):
we'll get that. We'll see if he's homecoming king, and
then we'll get the adjustments made after that. So sometimes
I laugh at the things that I school sports that
you're doing. I got to remember I'm not in Carolina anymore.
But it was a lot of fun. And then Saturday
actually accompanied one of our players who was going on
a little unofficial visit to Boise State. The big offensive

(04:15):
tackle I have. He got offered a scholarship by the
head coach before Boise State's game. So that was dang,
cool man, cool moment for him, and he included me
in on that, so yeah, good.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
We Also my question is this, did he know prior?
Did you know?

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (04:31):
I know?

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Nice. Yeah, it's funny because I can talk you know
that Boise State's like an hour from our town, and
so Nate Potter is one of the coaches there. He
played in the tackle in the league for a few years.
He's a Boise State alumni. So I've kind of got
connected with some of those coaches. So we'll talk o
line play and run scheme and stuff, you know, just
here and there. And then to have a player that
they're interested in. It's been a cool little relationship. But yeah,

(04:55):
I knew they were. They told me they were going
to offer him. I didn't say a word. I went
down there with them, a bunch of recruits there. They say, hey,
coach wants to talk to you. Go in this office
and does his presentation and everything, and it was dang,
cool man. That's rewarding helping these kids that then seeing
some of that kind of stuff come our way. So

(05:16):
good weekend. And then Sunday, as we said, the Panthers
against the Raiders, let's talk about that game, do you mind?

Speaker 2 (05:23):
I would like to Yes, I would like to revisit.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
That so it could get any I mean, Bryce was
said Bryce incomes Andy. He played well last year in
Week three against the Seahawks when he got an opportunity,
no different disc games ever, we won. Where are we
at now? What did you think of the game? Just
give us the Jake Delone rundown.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Well, my thing is this, I knew I think week one. Listen,
it got away from us so fast and so quickly,
and it was just one of those deals. And I
just felt the Charger game that you know, we just
certainly weren't functioning properly on offense, and I thought there
were holes on the running game. I thought we had
some things in the passing game, and it just I

(06:08):
felt that just there was more there, and coaching Canalis
made a big move. I made the switch and putting
Andy out there, and I just I just kind of felt,
you know, Andy has that he could care less type
of attitude right now because he's been there, done that.
And I think one thing that I heard him say,
and it might have been I can't remember, it was

(06:28):
leading up to the game that, you know what, I
didn't enjoy the end in Cincinnati. And now my kids
are a little older, the wife, and I like, I'm
enjoy the heck out of this. You know, It's like
I'm just going slang it, let it go. And that's
what I saw. I saw somebody just that played carefree.
I'm big in a quarterback's eyes. I'm a big believer
in looking at the quarterbacks eyes when he goes up

(06:50):
to the line of scrimmage and just is it just
a wide eyed look like Okay, you know I'm processing,
but I'm thinking too much. He was going on there
like chewing gum, like yeah, let's go walk in the park,
and making checks, making throws thrown on rhythm, thrown on time,
getting everyone involved. I think that was the biggest thing.
And to go down and get that touchdown in the

(07:11):
first drive, and then the defense to get stops and
the way the defense played, and then we just we
kept them on the sideline so they would go in
fresh and you just saw the team pumped up. And
I was excited to see Bryce on the sideline the
same way. Listen, I'll go back to it and I'll
double down on it. It's not the end for Bryce
and Carolina. I've been saying that, and I believe that

(07:33):
at the bottom of my heart, he just needed he
needed to catch his breath, and I think it's okay,
And so you know, he was able to see a
quarterback function at a high level the other day, the
highest level we've seen yet in the NFL. Right with
over three hundred yards and three touchdown passing, But just
the precision that we played with and the run game
and the protection and things like that. I just thought, overall,

(07:55):
and I'm speaking offensively, I thought that was fantastic. And
guy stepped up on defense again, I'll say Shaq and
Josie Jewel showed up really really well against the Chargers.
They made a ton of tackles. And then again you
saw them make tackles. You saw our front guy stepping
up with our front we started getting sacks. We did
well in in coverage. Mike Jackson was able to get

(08:18):
a pick. I think, jac we're hitting at balls. I mean,
that's what you notice that, Like we're punching that balls
or hitting that balls. We're playing violent and that's what
they preaches. After the game, hey, I saw what we
preach and what we believe in carryover and that's important.
Now we need to make it carry over again because
we're playing an opponent that is in the corner, that

(08:39):
is going to do anything by any means necessary to
try to get a win.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
What a cool storyline. Going into the Bengals game though,
with Andy as our starter and you know his history
there and as you said, the Bengals who have had
a ton of success man these last few seasons, to
come in at zero and three, they have to win,
and frankly, we have to win. That The great thing
about our division right now, Jake, you got New Orleans
and Tampa Bay two and one, us in Atlanta at

(09:04):
one and two, Like, if we can get some momentum
and get some wins, going the atrocious start all of
a sudden becomes manageable with the way the offense is playing.
What what do you think about Adam Feelin going on
IR with the hamstring? At least you know, he might
be the four week IR, not the whole season, But
what effect do you think that's going to have just

(09:24):
in the mojo and how our offense operates. He injured
that thing supposedly on that touchdown catch you had, but
where we're at without feeling.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Yeah, listen, that's something that that's a blow, and so
I think it's next man step up. I think Deontay
showed what we everyone kind of thought he was the
other day. You know, the catches that he made the
quickness that the play right before the half and in
essence helped set up the touchdown, the feeling catching the
pass and just kind of zig zagging through the defense.

(09:54):
I thought Mingo showed some signs of life. Tommy Trumble
in the first drive. That was nice to see. Somebody
can to step up. I thought Xavier leged he caught
the pass right over the ball and then took it
all down to the sidelines. We had another opportunity in
the game to hit him on a deep shot and
Andy just ran out of time. But that that's something
that I think we're gonna see possibly a little more

(10:16):
from him. I know he had a pass interference against
him in the end zone when the guy in essence
tackled him, So somebody else will have to step up.
Adam is special, especial on these third downs. He's a
competitive guy that's big and strong and comes up with
clutch plays. And it hurt me so bad watching him

(10:37):
make that playoffs so pumped and he's on the ground.
I was hoping wasn't in a collar bone. I was
hoping it was just the wind knocked out of him,
and then he you know, grabbed the hamstring, so hopefully,
you know, we get through the four weeks and then
give somebody else an opportunity to step up. That's what
it's about. And so you have a veteran quarterback that's

(10:57):
going to bring a calming presence, and so it's gonna
be a young somebody young at receiver wise that hey,
it's okay, let's go, let's step up our old line.
Thankfully came out the game, I think pretty well. Waiting
to hear in report report after today. But like the
way they play Robert Hunt, pull them around the left
and just chicken winging people with his chicken wing making

(11:20):
people fly.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Field on screens.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
How beautiful was that?

Speaker 1 (11:24):
So it was very beautiful?

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Yeah, yeah, feeling he's a listen he brings there's a
tenacity that he brings that's special.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
Uh, Jake, So what is a Panther fan mindset? Now
we're going coming back home. There was you know, defeat
and dejection for two weeks. Now go on the road.
Everybody's like, wait a minute, it's not the worst thing
in the world. Like you said, wait a minute, we
do have good players. It's not like people thought. It's
amazing how your mentality and your emotions can swing from

(11:53):
one week to the next, Jake, but are you giving
Panther fans permission to be excited this Sunday against the Bengals.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Well, I think there's hope, Jordan. I think that's the
biggest thing. I think you saw hope last week now
that the Raiders. Did we catch them at a good
time coming off of a huge road wind in Baltimore. Possibly,
but I think we had something to do with that.
I think the Panthers had something to do with that.
So confidence is high this week. It's hopefully you have

(12:21):
a good week of practice. Whereas in Cincinnati they're feeling
like they're so close. I mean they're passing appearance away
from beating the Chiefs in Kansas City and then the
Monday night football game. They've had some issues defensively so far,
and Jayden Daniels was unbelievable playing the other night. But
you know who else was really good? T Higgins and

(12:41):
Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase and I got to work
on his name, the tight end Husavas or something like that, like, yeah,
that team like they can score some points and Burrow
looks pretty good. So you know, defensively they've had some issues,
especially in the interior here and maybe at the corner

(13:02):
type position, so you know, to establish a run game
would be huge. Keeping Joe Burrow on the sideline this
week would be very beneficial to us, to be quite honest, Yeah,
I would.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Not mind if they did that as well. Jake, when
you think about the starting quarterback being Andy Dalton for
the second week, Okay, you've been you've been the starter,
that's been step that's had to step down, You've been
the backup who's had to step in. How does kind
of the pressure you know, I feel like when watching

(13:33):
this happen as a teammate, the starter, the backup getting
named the starter for a week, whether it was Derek
Anderson or it was Matt Moore, it was whoever. That's
kind of like, all right, let's go. I'm fired up.
It's a new week. It's exciting. The other team hasn't
been scouting you yet because you haven't played this season.
It's a little bit of like a ignorance is bliss
a little bit potentially, Right then you stay in that

(13:56):
starting role, all of a sudden, that kind of the
chance feels a little bit different, maybe a little more pressure,
maybe a little bit whatever. Do you think that's something
that Andy Dalton is going to feel and experience. And
on the flip side, when Bryce Young sits on that sideline,
is there a sense of relief potentially like ooh, pressure
is off. And as you said, it's not the end

(14:17):
for him if he can handle this reset and just
learn and watch Andy talk about the mindset both those
quarterbacks as we moved through this season.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Well, I think the first thing for Bryce is that,
you know, all indications were that he was extremely, extremely
good in practice last week. That's the word that I've got.
He was extremely good. And so you know that could
be something that hey, there's a reset and his mindset is. Look,
I'm gonna watch Andy. I'm gonna watch from a veteran

(14:46):
who's won with five divisions, multiple Pro Bowls, who's thrown
for a ton of yards in this League's won a
lot of games. I'm gonna watch him. I'm gonna observe him.
I'm gonna watch his mannerisms when he comes back on
the sideline talking to the receivers, the running backs of alignment,
getting on the same page. What was his preparation like
And I'm sure Andy has given him a lot of
those tips, but to see him now do it in person,

(15:07):
it's a little bit different. So I think this is
very beneficial for Bryce. I thought Alex Smith, ex quarterback,
Utah quarterback who played forever in the league, he was
so great last week. He was the only one that
made sense in my opinion. He was talking about the
whole Brice situation and he said, you know, we talk
about throwing these young quarterbacks into spots. And he goes,

(15:28):
we always want to talk about Peyton Manning and yeah,
he played as a rookie. He goes, that's an anomaly.
He goes, I'm sorry, I'm tired of hearing about it.
That's Peyton Manning. The mindset, the makeup and everything. He
was just different. He goes, it's difficult for these guys.
It's extremely, extremely difficult. You look at Jayden Daniels had
a great night Monday night, but the week prior, they

(15:49):
had to kick seven field goals. They couldn't get it
in in the red zone because it's just different. This
game is different, you know, and they probably should have
lost to the Giants. The Giants were without a kicker,
so and you look at Caleb Williams. There's some struggles there.
You look at Anthony Richardson and Indy there's some struggles. Stroud
had a struggling week last week. It's hard. So he
can watch this veteran just the way he goes about

(16:11):
his business. And on the flip side with Andy, what
has he got to lose. He's got nothing to lose.
It's not about playing for another contract and this and that. Financially,
I would have a feeling he's pretty darn set. He's happy,
he's a father. I think it's three kids. You saw
his mom and dad and stands alone with his wife.
I mean, they're just enjoying it because they've been through

(16:34):
a decade of him playing and division championships and then
he had a little reset, he had to sit for
a little bit. But now he's getting another opportunity. So
everything else from here on out is just the icing
on the cake or the cherry on top anyone, a
little phrase you want to use, that's what it is.
And he's thirty six, but he's a healthy thirty six,
he really and truly is. And he's a sturdy individual

(16:56):
who was very tough for many years and he played
a lot so I know that's a long winded answer,
but that's kind of what I feel, and that's kind
of what I know. That's what that's what I believe.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
I love. I love the Scattery report. He's a healthy
thirty six and he's a sturdy individual.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Man.

Speaker 1 (17:12):
That's what we're looking for in our quarterback. Could that
ever have been said about you? I'm not sure.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
I was healthy for a while and then I just
started having like some knick knacks, you know, from.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
Like an unhealthy thirty six and a fragile individual is
what we would have maybe ended up with.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
I felt decent at that at thirty six, of that age,
I just had a bum ankle from a couple of
high ankles and just you know, elite one thing, Lisa
and another bum. So many times it is what it is.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
Unhealthy thirty six with a bum ankle, Jake.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
And really and truly, you know, think about it. It's
a little different now. I mean, it's you're not hitting
the quarterbacks a ton, Let's be honest. It's very different.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
Well, I was thinking, I was listening to NFL radio
in the mornings as I do, and I'm driving to
school and things like that, and they were talking about
kind of the responsibility of the quarterback now with the
protection rules surrounding the quarterback, right staff quarterback. The content
I think it was was Pat Kerwin. That wouldn't have
been him, I can't remember it, one of the morning guys. Anyways,

(18:13):
he was saying there's responsibility for the quarterback to kind
of play within those rules now, right, like to slide
and avoid that contactor if you're running out of bounds,
don't get greedy and get that last yard and then
complain if you get lit up. Like the defenders know
they got to kind of play with a bubble around
those quarterbacks, Jake, but also the quarterbacks got to kind
of understand how they got it and the rules are

(18:35):
protecting them, and to not take advantage of some of
those loopholes. And I think Andy Dalton is a healthy,
thirty six, sturdy athlete. He can find a way with
the way the things are now, like you're saying, to
negate some of those hits and maybe get on a
little roll.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
I hope so, you know. And but I think another
thing too is that mentally, I mean, Dave's Dave, what
do he spoke about the whole offseason and everything two
point seven seconds, get the ball out your hand, let
it go, you know, two point seven seconds run the
ball officially, stay ahead of the chains. I think that's
right in Andy's wheelhouse, and he sees it. He can
process it extremely fast. If he's got to hold it

(19:11):
a little longer, knowing he has to just give something
a little more time, I think he will. But I
mean that's you know, hopefully, you know, coach Izick and
Day they come up with a plan and that's the
attack mode, and that's the way it goes. But what
makes everything click is a running game when you can
run the football, and we did a decent job of

(19:32):
that the last couple of weeks New Orleans. Not so
sure that we had a true opportunity there being down
by so much.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
Now let's keep it going, Jake, I'm looking forward to
the game Andy Dalton against his old team. I mean,
a beautiful day Bank of America Stadium, Panther fans have
our permission to get excited, Jake, And hey, two and
two sounds pretty darn awesome. From zero to two just
a short time ago.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
There's no doubt there's nothing like winning in the National
Football League. Jordan, I think we all know that you lose,
especially early in the season, until you get that first win.
It's if you're losing, the sky is gray. You'll never
see the sun again. Every the birds don't chirp at all.
It's just it's not a good feeling. But this week,
I promise you it's it's just a different mindset, a
different feel, a different pep in their step.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
All right, well we'll see how it goes.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
Jake, I'll talk to you next week, buddy'd be good, Yes,
that'd be good.
