Speaker 1 (00:02):
Jordan and Jake go good, I'm excited, ready to go
the home stops.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
He throws at a crossfield.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Guess who, George Cross? Here are your panther?

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Hall of Honor remembers Jordan Gross and Jake Delome.

Speaker 4 (00:20):
First off, Jake, I owe an apology because we were
supposed to start at twenty after and I had to
push us back ten reason being is that I had
to take my car in for an oil change. I
got a little hung up at the dealership, which while
I was sitting there thinking I need ten more minutes
and thinking about the podcast, it made me think, Jake,
how wimpy US car owners have become with our inability

(00:45):
to do anything.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
To our own vehicles.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
And I wanted to ask you where do you draw
the line on car maintenance of your own? So I'm
assuming you pump your own gas? Yes, okay, you pump
your own gas? Are we every time we're at the
gas station? Is it I clean the windshields also? Or
is that just depending on the bugs? Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Pretty much every time I'm cleaning the windshields, yes.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
Are you a y are you? Are you a scrub?
And then we flip and then we wipe. Do you
get the paper towel to clean the squeegee every swipe
so it leaves no streaks.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
That's what I do. You should try that technique.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah, no, I'm good. There, I'm good because it's.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Just all streaky when you're done.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
No, it's absolutely Christine.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Because yeah right, I get it and then I flip.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
It over and I use the squeegee and it's nice
and good.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
And then when I get back in the vehicle, then
I run my water on it one more time.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Yes, mm hmm.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
I like it when you're at the gas station and
your squeegee boxes out of water and you see the
person next to you and you're like eye in it,
like are they going to use that thing? What's going
on here? And then you go over, hey, you and
then you got to use their squeegee to get the
job in. All right, So we pump ourll gas. You
get your tires low. Most modern vehicles will tell you
do you go to the do you go to tire

(02:07):
place or do you put your own air in?

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I put my own air, that's okay. I put my
on air.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
Okay, if it's a flat or whatever, like with lawnmowers
and things like that. I will jacket up myself, take
it off, drop it off. I mean no, like I
will do a lot of those things.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
I'm not going down the road. You're going down the road.
You get a flat? Yes? Are you changing that?

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Son of a gun?

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Okay, good, we're on the same page. Okay, you need
new wiper blades?

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Were doing that? Yes?

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Because usually if I'm going to do my whole change,
if I think I need something, I'll.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Say, hey, I'll replace some. But if not, I will.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Run to a store, auto zone ish type of place
and do that. Yes, I will do.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
That, top of the line kind of guy. Like the diamond.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
What's the number one recommended one from my vehicle?

Speaker 3 (02:59):
I'm getting Yep.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
I went to the auto part store the other day
because I had to get a trailer break light and
I needed a tape measure too, just like to carry
one in my truck.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
You know. I was like, hey, Bud, you got any
tape measures?

Speaker 4 (03:10):
He's like, well, you want a piece of crap or
do you want a nice one? I said, I'll take
the nice one. He's like the Milwaukee It's back here
and it was behind the counter, secret stash he had
for me.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
So I got the nice one after that though, Jake, after.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
We've changed the change, if we fueled up the gas tank,
we got wiper blades, I'm.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Almost out after that. I mean, I'll check, like if
if something's not working, I'll check up.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
I can look at the fuse. I can find the
fuse panel maybe.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
But they make vehicles now to where you can't work
on them then that you have to bring them in.
But like if we need if I need winds, your
wipe or fluid, I'll do that.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
I needed some I needed some other.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Type of fluid the other day for Lindsay's vehicle, and
Boom looked it up. When coolant, I can't remember if
it was cool and or not.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Yeah, because everything else is going to be a little difficult.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
But yeah, So growing up, I had to check the
oil all the time because I had an old truck
that I still have, you know, she's a court low.
Now the new rigs, I never have to check that thing.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
No, exactly Now, I do do that on my lawnmowers,
just to make sure I do not change my blades
on my lawnmower, you know, because it's just I could
the big legs right there now every time I do it.
It's like I wanted service to. I want to all change.
I want to you know, because we run them pretty hard,
so I want it done.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Yeah, okay, just making sure you you didn't totally get
too soft on me anyways.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
So yeah, that was what That's what held me up
there a little bit. And I was I was waiting Jake.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
I was looking at the Panther news as we always do,
and I missed this announcement somehow, And I apologize. Concert
for Carolina. Have you heard about this?

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yes, I have, but joined that recently like this just
happened like a few days. Yes, now outstanding, It's gonna
be awesome. I will be in Denver that weekend calling
the game, so certainly I will not. But what an
unbelieve opportunity for Bank of America Stadium and you know
Luke Comb's James Taylor, I know missing.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Wow. Yeah yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Hurricane Helene relief as that continues to just be a disaster.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
What a cool thing. And for the Tempers to open
up the stadium.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
And make that, make that happen fast and all the performers,
just a way to make something great out of, you know,
a nightmare. So really proud of the organization and all
that and what a fun time.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
So I just had to give a.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah, I agree, Jordan. I think it's you know, you
can't say enough. You know, like you have these people
that are famous and they're well to do and whatnot.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
But the things that they.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
Will do, the talent that they've been given just to
give back, and they're going to raise a ton the
money and will it helps out of everything, No it won't,
but you know it's gonna be a big help.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Yeah. Uh o.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
Other NFL news, Let's talk about the Jets, Jake, did
you hear what happened there?

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (06:12):
I did hear what happened there, and that that's kind
of a strange situation.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
You know, let me hear what you think is happening.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Two and three man, buddy, listen, you fire the head coach.
Their defense is the strong point of that team, has
been the strong point of that team, and that's his specialty.
The offense was horrific last year. Don't get me wrong.
They really didn't have a quarterback. They missed on a
quarterback and Zach Wilson and that didn't pan out.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
They got Aaron. He gets hurt.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
He's back.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
They're just not functioning at the highest level, to say
the least.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
There's a lot of talk of Nathaniel Hackett and Aaron's
relationship and he's protected and now that it's out that
supposedly they were going to pull the play calling duties
from him and then he fired.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
So I don't know.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
I mean, I'm anxious to hear from from Sala. I'm
sure he'll talk at some point. I'm assuming Aaron will
talk at some point.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Well we know the whole story. I'm not quite sure.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
But you know, the only made a change, and certainly
early in the season, and heck, I think they're playing
for first place coming up this week. He's Buffalo, So
it wasn't like it was a total debacle.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
It was not a total debacle, but yeah, just unusual.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
It kind of seems like it was out of nowhere,
and anything surrounding Aaron Rodgers also is you know, he's
not out sandy quarterback and all that stuff. But you
just always wonder what the dynamics are. He's just such
a strong personality and such a unique dude.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
So maybe something will come. We'll get a little more
clerity on that.

Speaker 4 (07:43):
But how great is it being a coach with the
guaranteed contract though, like I'm good buddies with Brian Harson,
who is the Boise State head coach. And then he
went to Auburn and yeah, you know, did his best
there but got let go.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Oh he's lived that guy.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
He's getting paid the same as he was if he
was coaching the Auburn Tigers. But he's you know, next
week he's coming to my Fruitland Grizzly football practice to
give us a pep talk, man, and so Sala like, yeah,
boo hoo. Right, he's still got two years on his contract,
I believe, or one more after this.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Yeah, through the twenty five season, and so you know
he yeah, and he's one that it's it's not like
his side of the ball is what's struggling. I mean,
that's the thing that's kind of a kind of hit scratchers, like, well,
wait a minute, your defense is playing extremely well and
actually keeping you in games, you know, and gave you

(08:34):
an opportunity.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Basically, I think Minnesota Vikings has been the.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Talk of the league and Sam Darno and the way
they're playing, and between you and I, it certainly seems
like that defense held them in check.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
They they jumped on him, but then they stopped them
pretty much the rest of the game.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
Well, it just shows you what can happen week to
week in the NFL. And as we move on to
our Panthers, Jake, it's Wednesday. We're recording this on Wednesday,
this time of the week where you kind of transition
from let's talk about the last game to moving on
to the new one.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
But it's fun we get to talk about both.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
You're at the Bears game, Jake, didn't go the way
started good started good, didn't in.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
The way we wanted.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah, Jordan, it started well. Really worried going into the
game it was going to be a challenge.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
I was so worried with the you know, Josie Joenshack,
both of them not there.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Certainly you had Derek Brown.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
We're playing with a backup safety safety with Nick Scott.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Jordan Fuller was one that was out.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
And you know, we've just had some we've been beat
up and it's not an excuse. I think a lot
of teams are extremely beat up right now, but that's
just that's just the way the NFL goes sometimes. And
so this Bears team was a really good football team.
I think they were giving up eighteen points a game
and young quarterback that I think they asked him to

(09:50):
do a little too much early on, especially against the
Indianapolis throwing fifty something times and played well the week
prior and did the same thing against us, and he's
he missed the few things also, but he did a
good job really and truly they didn't.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Turn it over. We stopped them on downs one time.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Uh, but yeah, we just we we had some trouble
stopping stopping them, to say the least, and had a
couple of significant injuries on the offensive line. But you know,
I thought Josh Niemen came in and did okay, and I.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Thought Brady Christiansen. To me, it's somewhat comforting.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Yes, he hasn't played center in the NFL, but someone
who's played a ton of snaps, who's someone on our trust,
came into the football game.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
And you know, it's unfortunate for Austin Corbett, to say
the least, this.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
Is a guy that does everything right and takes care
of his body, and for him to have another season
ending injury, it's a it's it's a hard pill to swallow,
but that's the NFL. It's a it's a cruel business
many times, and so that's where we're at. Offensively. I
still think we're okay there. I think we you know,

(10:54):
I think we're okay there. Defensively, Hey, it's an opportunity
that guys are gonna.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Have to step up, and that's easier said than done. Jordan.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
You know Trevor Wallace, young rookie third round pick, got
in Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
I'm anxious to watch him play this week.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
I actually we watched our game again last night, just
a deepitive side of the ball, and you could tell
there were times he wanted to play hard. He had
a lot of tackles, but he was a little lost
and he got confused a few times. But just think
about it. Luke and I spoke about this for a
good while before the game, and we spoke about it
on air. I was like, hey, you know when you played,
he goes Jake. When my first few games, John Beeson

(11:28):
was the middle linebacker. This is a Pro Bowl middle
linebacker I have. So I'm playing the wheel. Then Josh
Beeson gets hurt, goes. I come to the middle. I
have James Anderson on one side, and then I have
Thomas Davis on the other so veteran guys. Well, you
have Trevor out there, he has the green dot, which
he has to call all the plays. Then you have
Claude and Cherliss, who's been more of a special team

(11:51):
or backup in his role. So that was a great
amount to ask. I thought late third and fourth quarter,
I thought he trevn laid better. I didn't think he
was as confused and didn't run as laterally as he
did earlier in the game.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
So looking for a big jumping improvement with him after
this week.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
It had to have been a little tough in the
booth calling the game.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
When you know Moten's out, Corbett's out, trembles out, leg
It's out, DJ Johnson's out, Horn gets ejected. It's like
the amount of bad compounding with guys disappearing from the field.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
I mean we've been through that as well, Jake.

Speaker 4 (12:28):
At some point with the active roster count, you're starting
to look around, going all right, we're gonna who's gonna
have to play out of position here. We did that
in the NFL numerous times, where you'd have like your
your tight end that would be the emergency backup tackle.
Just in case you got to that point and it
seemed like we were getting close at times.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Jake, No, it Jardon, it does.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
And you know, I always try to go back and
you can't compare times. But I just go back to
the two thousand and four season, the year off the
super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
In my opinion, and.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
I don't think I'm saying anything that's not truthful, we
had a much much better roster than I think the
roster is right now in Carolina, and we just started
losing guys left and right, from Chris Jenkins and Dan
Morgan to Steve Smith to the Stephen Davis.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
That Deshaun Foster. The list can go on and on.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Brad Hoover we lost for a little bit with a
high ankle, and it was almost like meet your new
player Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
That's what it was.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
It was just a brand new player we had signed.
We signed Casey Kramer, you know, h back fullback. We
signed him, Meet him on Wednesday morning. He's starting for
us that weekend at starting fullback. And that's just the
way it was. And we finally got some guys healthy
and we went on a run a lot of part
of that season, but we get the young guys gained
experience and and things like that, and it helped prepare

(13:44):
prepare many of them and us the following year and
down the line. So but it's it's tough duty right now. Jordan,
I'm not so sure when we're gonna get Ian Thomas back.
I believe he had a couple of days of practice
last week. Dane Jackson the cornerback, and so you know,
we can start to count down some days. I'm assuming
Adam feeling that's gonna be possibly in a couple of weeks,

(14:05):
and Jordan Fuller maybe get him back. And that's when
I'm DJ want. I'm another one. I don't know the
windows open. What about Jonathan Brooks. But but I say
all that, these people that have to play this weekend, Hey,
you got an opportunity in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
Doesn't wait for you. I mean, that's the biggest thing.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Jalen Cocher, look at look at Jalen from Holy Cross,
but up big numbers.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
It was a free agent out of college we loved.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Last year and had an okay preseason, was on the
practice squad.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
We elevated him. The guy played the other day and
played well and played fast, looked like he belonged. That
was the thing that I was probably most encouraged of
the game was his play.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
To be very honest, well, it is next guy up.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
The one good thing with the O line injuries and
situation is to get Cad May's back off of the
Giants practice squad. That's nice to have a guy that's
gonna be at least familiar with our scheme and with
what we're doing and some of the players in there,
because that's a huge one, Jake, Like you said, when
guys would come in meet your new teammate, and especially

(15:08):
if a ligneman had to show up and they were
going to have to fit into the scheme of the
game plan for that week fresh off the boat, I mean,
that is so dang hard, Jake.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
So I feel for the guys.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
Like you said, I thought a lot about dang twenty
years ago and our start at one and was it
one and seven?

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Right?

Speaker 4 (15:25):
We started one and seven then yeah, one and sex
and two. The second half, Yeah, I mean, you just
it's hard, all right. We signed Shack Lawson this week, right, okay,
edge gut Well, Shaq Lawson's got a you know, I
know he's going to be coming in fresh and energy
and all that. But he's also kind of like, feel,
all right, what the heck's going on here in Carolina?
I'm glad to get this job and get this roll,

(15:45):
But where do I fit in all those types of things?

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Jake?

Speaker 4 (15:49):
So how do we retool and get excited? We're back at.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
Home playing the division team. The Falcons are three and two.
It's funny, they're three and two.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
We're one and four, and it's like they're fifty games
ahead of us at field. You know, three and two
is so different man, that two game swing. So what
do we do get ready for Kirk Cousins and company.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Well, we're gonna have to cover up, I'm gonna tell
you that because listen, and they basically were off a
mini buy.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
They had a few extra days rest than us.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
But I only watched him throw for five hundred and
something yards last Thursday, six days ago, whenever they played
against Tampa. And I'm just watching a quarterback that's getting
more and more comfortable in this new system or new players,
I actually say similar type system that he's in coming
off and Achilles, but just watching him play and listen,

(16:38):
is this gonna be a tough task, especially Defensively, that's
where we have the most issues right now. But Jordan
is the NFL. Things can happen offensively, I'll go back.
That was one of my key points of the game. Offensively,
we've got to sustain drives and keep.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
The running game going.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
I thought our running game did a very good job
the other day. Tuba ran the ball. Well, there was
some holes, It's just it was few and far between,
and then you know, you get behind by so much
as you try to play catch up. So again, same thing.
I think we can have success against this Atlanta defense,
in my opinion, and then make some plays in the

(17:14):
passing game. I think Andy throwing the football. I think
our young receivers makes to see what we look like
off the practice field this week. I know Xavier Legette
did not play the second half. I hadn't really heard
much about that, so looking forward to seeing his progression.

(17:34):
I think that's something and getting Deontae involved more.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
But I'll give Bears credit. That was a good defensive
football team. That was a good looking football team.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
Luke and I were very impressed at the physical size
and stature of the football team. There's something about watching film,
but you got to go down on the field and
see him in the flesh. And so that's a team
that I think can make some noise. There are in
a tough division. Yes, they have a rookie quarterback who
will make mistakes, but that's a team that's trending in
the right direction.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
Well, it was.

Speaker 4 (18:03):
There's a lot to read into that game, Jake, with
the trade you know, two years ago, and how it
all panned out, and it's not written yet who who
did better, who did worse?

Speaker 3 (18:13):
But based on that last.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
Game, people can maybe jump to their own conclusions. Jake,
you're going to You're gonna be there this week?

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Correct, Yes, sir, we got an afternoon game. It was
a four to twenty five game, I believe. But is
that and that's what your opportunity to get out of town?

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Are you staying?

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Yeah, I'm over Sunday.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Yeah I'll have to stay over Sunday evening. But you
know that's that's part of the deal. And so a
Panther win would make me feel extremely happy. Look, Jordan,
I think I'm like you. I'd say this is going
to be a battle. This season is going to be
a battle. I think Dan tried to explain to everyone
prior to the season that hey, this is a roster
that we're working through and we're going to be active

(18:51):
in the market, on the on the waiver wire and
things of that nature, trying to turn that roster. And
we do have a collection of picks next year, all
seven rounds. So you know it's I'm not I don't
want to talk about next.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
Year, but like because okay, because.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
Heye, okay, what a cocher turns out to be. Okay, guys,
we got a young kid that we we we stole him, right,
we stole them sew Smith Wade.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
He started the game last week.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
When we were in a dime package, you know, so
he's gonna get more playing time. Trevn Trevin starts to
take some big jumps in the system. Then that's that's
what I'm looking forward to seeing, like some of our
guys play and our young kids because they're gonna have to.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
That's where we're at right now, and so that's what
you want to see. It's it's a week two week business,
but you're.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
Usually the positive when it comes to like, hey, let's
talk about no, I'm positive we need to start seeing
some young guys step up.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Fine, all right, fine, that's why they pay you the
big bucks.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Jake.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
Okay, okay, all right, well do we're thing man, get
that dub We are a big game.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
I got a big game Friday.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
You're undefeated, correct.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
We're undefeated right now we're playing play homebl Trojans. Okay, uh,
that's a big They we haven't beat them since two
thousand and seventeen.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
I believe, Well.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
That's about time.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
Well, we'll see. I'm trying my hardest.

Speaker 4 (20:30):
It's so funny when you're head coach, Jake, because we
like our practice after school obviously, and so I as
you would expect, our practice plans pretty detailed. We got
our periods. You know, everything's on the segment on the
timer one, you know, whistle, run to the next thing, boom,
we're moving. And it's coming to that point of the
year for us because like we're only three games remaining

(20:51):
in our conference or in our regular season schedule. You're
like trying to whittle what can I whittle down? You know,
fresh legs what I do, and I like, I think
think I'm gonna take two minutes off of each team
period today. Okay, you know what I mean. And I'm like,
really thinking about it, man, because that equal we do
four team periods.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
I'm like, now that's eight minutes less. I don't know,
that's like ten plays if we're really going. But I
need the fresh let you know what I mean. I
come home like I've decided.

Speaker 4 (21:19):
Tell my family I'm gonna take two minutes off a
team period tonight.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
They're like, oh, great job, Dad, Great job Dad. But
you don't get it. So just say, you know, Jake
might take two minutes off of team period today.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Hey, I love it. All I know is this our
Super Bowl year. Our practices toward the end of that season.
I think we ran thirty six offensive plays per practice.

Speaker 1 (21:41):
I remember calculating it.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Toward the end, we were a finely tuned machine.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
We would do nine on seven with pads on so
we could do our run fits, take the pads off,
and we just we knew what we wanted to do offensively,
and we did it better than the other team's defense,
and so kind of work for it.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
We'll say this, the team we're facing ran a hooking
ladder to offensive tackle for a touchdown last week, so
they are creative, to say the least.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
Okay, so how many times this week. Are you practicing
that hooking ladder?

Speaker 3 (22:10):
I'm not saying nothing because they could be listening.

Speaker 4 (22:13):
Okay, I already said too much that I might take
two minutes off a team period cash. All right, idiot,
I'm gonna have something about next year like you now.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
Jake, thanks a lot.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
Way to go, all right, buddy, I'll fin
