Speaker 1 (00:08):
Welcome to NFL Daily, where we are always running from
the law. I am Craig Rosenthal here for Man Versus
Model week eight, where we do our picks every week.
We're here in the Chris Westling podcast studio, me and
Cynthia Freeland.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
You need to tell everyone, friend, Okay, I will because
I'm a little and it's really about you.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
I'm a little frazzled. Right now.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
My family is in the building and they're gonna watch
us tape game debut and we're going to the Rams game.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
We're taping this ahead of time. On Thursday, they get
score predictions for the game.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
We are going to have a special guest later on
in the show. We've got an extra microphone set up
for the end of the show. But yeah, I was
trying to come into the building through security and we
actually put their names in. Usually we just kind of
come in with you know, that's what supposed to do,
I guess, but you know, this time we tried to
do it and put everyone's name and when we got there,

(01:09):
we found out that miners are not allowed into the
building during weekdays, during school days or something. There's some rule,
and I thought, okay, you know, my name's on the
show now NFL Daily with Greg Rosenthal.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Like I was like, Oh, they're just going to come
watch watch doing the show. We're going to the game after. Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Then they brought HR down. HR came down, A second
level of people came down, and they again got the
no did you respond with football is family? I just
said okay, thank you, and then we left, and then
we walked up three flights of stairs and then we went.
We went in the same that we always go in,

(01:47):
which is just the front door essentially.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
And we've snuck.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
And yes, if my family gets taken away and put
in jail during this show, I will miss them. That's
why Walker was saying. As we were walking, I was like,
the and they put us in jail. I was like, no,
I don't think so, Okay, this is ours our show
where we go through and make three picks each and
every week against the spread. Sometimes I make a few extra.
Every time I make a few extra. At the end,

(02:11):
I want to start with good news. Yeah, you have
had three straight winning weeks, you are over five hundred.
You're ahead of me for the season, but only by
a game. I've had two straight winning weeks, so either
way we are picking winners, and yes, first you go first,
I'll go Packers minus three and a half.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Yep, okay, okay.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
There's a whole thing that's happening each and every week
where a team plays the Patriots, and then after they
play the Patriots, everyone thinks they're good because the Patriots
are so bad. We saw the Jets. I was foolish
enough to be like, this is one of the biggest
moments of the season. The Jets are a real team now. No, no,
think about other teams that the Patriots have played after

(02:54):
that matchup. Basically, every time you play the Patriots, you
think you've got to go in San Francisco, like, okay,
they finally got to go in their role and they
crushed me. The next week they play the Cardinals, like
every team is going to look good against the Patriots.
The Dolphins, they beat the Patriots, so maybe they got
a back on jug No, they go right back to
the losing after that. This is the number thirty two
defense in the NFL according to DVA. That's in Jacksonville.

(03:15):
I am not falling for that. They had a slightly
better game against New England. They didn't even look good
That's all I really need to know is that this
Packers team versus the number thirty two defense in the NFL.
Matt Lafleur is just putting up pictures of these Jaguars
linebackers on the wall and he's saying, which one am
I going to pick on next? Like I don't even
care Ifoye a. Lukan is back for this game? Which

(03:36):
one am I going to pick on next? In coverage,
Jeff dot Hefley, the defensive coordinator for the Packers, I think,
is doing a good job before yes, creating pressures, simulated pressures,
so that is going against an average Jaguars offense, but
it's really about the Packers offense going up against the
Jaguars defense.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Also, just a very healthy team.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
One of the few teams you know, knock on wood,
they can look on the injury report, almost no one
is going to be out for this game, like Carrington
Valentine is their only significant player out.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Let's go Packers minus three and five. Okay, feel great?

Speaker 2 (04:07):
All right?

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Your first pick this will be r this is my
first pick.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Let's just go with Pittsburgh minus six and a half
m m Okay, Pittsburgh by a touchdown. I like it.
Is not that I don't like the Giants, I just
don't think they're very good.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Dexter Lawrence, there are the purposes that is not liking them.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Well. I like the franchise, I like the ownership. They
treat people really well. They've got people there who really care.
But and Dexter Lawrence.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Is None of that matters for this spread though, So
I didn't pick this.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Bread up, Okay, I'm just saying that I think that Pittsburgh,
especially with Russell Wilson, now that we saw the trajectory
from the beginning of the game to the end last
week against the Jets, things just got better and better.
I think this is a situation where Pittsburgh by a
touchdown feels very achievable in a game that I think
right now it's at thirty six and a half, I
think it'll be a higher scoring game than that.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Okay, I like that too, because Daniel Jones really miss
Andrew Thomas's left tackle last week, and now you think
about the matchup against TJ. Watt and Alex Highsmith, who
might be lining up on that side, who's healthy and
played last week, and this front just Daniel Jones has
not gotten anything going the last couple of weeks, so
it's just hard to see them scoring enough points.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
I'm gonna go AFC North here. Okay, Bengals minus two
and a half. Now, I know you disagree with this.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
I have a feeling that's good.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Yeah, it's good.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
The Eagles are rickety. Okay, they're not as good as
their record. They're four and two.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
If you look like Dvoa, for instance, has them about
twentieth for the scene, that actually is how it feels
to me. They're about a slightly below average offense, maybe
average below average defense. Have played well the last two
weeks against bad opponents. Now they're playing against Joe Burrow.
We'll see if those defensive improvements the Eagles have had
will stay consistent. But this was one where I just

(05:59):
looked at the numb and I just thought it'd be
three and a half. Sometimes you have a feel of
like what the numbers are going to be. And to me,
if they're giving two two and a half points for
home field, they're basically saying these two teams are even.
And as you know, Adam Sandler said, I disagree, you know,
I disagree that.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
These he's the only one to ever say that. Here's
the thing. My only problem with that, and this is
the one thing. And you talk about the defensive improvements,
it's thirteen sacks over the past two games after their bye. Yes,
so that's a really big uptick in pressure. Now, is
that fugaisy or not? We will find out, because the
Bengals allow the second lowest pressure rate on their quarterback. However,

(06:43):
on the times they do get pressure on the quarterback,
it turns into a sack at a very high rate.
So it's kind of all or nothing when it comes
to if the pressure works and results in a sack
or not. And I'm curious to see if there are
enough different weapons. So will the run game be enough
against that front? I just think that the Eagles get
up for some like really weird games and they're a
very inconsistent team. But this is like what Vic Fangio does.

(07:06):
Like this is the as you know, whatever we've seen
for years. There's these games where it's they rarely play
each other, they're not even in the same conference. This
is where Vic fangs like, you know what, I actually
have the perfect antidote to Joe Burrow.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
You know what, he has a hard defense to learn,
and we've seen it over time that takes a little
while to get going, and they've gotten a going since
the bye week.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
They have improvements.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
It's really not so much about the defense, Yep, it's
about the Eagles offense. I just watched Jalen Hurts and
he's just not comfortable right now. I don't think he's
seeing the field right now, and I think missing his
left tackle is a big deal against Trey Hendrickson. Sam
Horbard's playing better, and yeah, I do think the Bengals'
still there though. Yeah, no, I get it. This is

(07:47):
not one where I think it's crazy. It's just if
it was three and a half, I probably would have
ignored it. It's more, I do not think these two
teams are equal. I think the Bengals are a better
football team than the Eagles, so I will take them
at home.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
And by the way, how dare you.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Besmirched the name of Adam Sandler and his character in
the movie Uncut Gems.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
I'm definitely not besmirching it.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
It's a gambling movie, so I think some of our
listens I don't even recognize it.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
And it's just I disagree. You have to do.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
You have to do it with more like goose. So yeah, exactly, Okay,
you're up. I'm up. Okay Houston and six points soo
Houston by a touchdown?

Speaker 3 (08:25):
Baby.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
I think God against Indianapolis.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
I think my son Walker, who's not really paying attention
right now, I think he's on his computer.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
Maybe he is paying attention.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
I will agree with that because he is a big
Texans fan as well. Why do you like the Texans
this week? Over Jacksonville? I mean over Indianapolis?

Speaker 3 (08:43):
They won?

Speaker 1 (08:43):
That game was close in Week one Texan's Colts Division matchup.
They've been pretty close over the last couple of years,
splitting games mostly.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Why do you like the Texans?

Speaker 2 (08:52):
I think this is like the what happens to good
quarterbacks trajectory meeting when you're really good and you don't
even necessarily need be as good as offensive rookie of
the year, but when really good defenses specifically figure out
ways to stop you. Remember when everyone was like, hey,
good news, here's here's the thing. We're never giving single
high coverage to Patrick Mahomes. Well now they're doing that
same type of thing with c J.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Stroud.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
They're figuring out ways to specifically adapt to his unique
skill set. What are you laughing at?

Speaker 1 (09:17):
The family is now apparently being escorted out of the building.
We were gonna have Walker come on the show, and
they're getting booted. I'll see you guys in in fifteen minutes.
Oh my goodness, it's good for the show. It's a
good story.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Bye Walker.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Unreal, he's so cute and they're gonna have so much time.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Oh so they're going to the game. Yeah, can't you
call like Stan Kronkey? I mean, don't you have like
a line into him? Isn't here our landlord? Like?

Speaker 3 (09:43):
They don't have any lines into anyone. This is sad.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
I've done a bad job as a as a parent
and you really tried though, I'm I can't believe it.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Maybe they maybe they were like popping up on the
on the like cameras. That's kind of exciting to think about.
I'm so sad. Walker was going to take the Texans too.
He's going to come in and make a pick. Makes
me feel better, you like it not allowed? My final
pick will be the Bucks plus two and a half.
I love that we're just doing the show and let's
just get through it. I like, no, it's not Bucks

(10:14):
two and a half. Actually it's going to be Denver
minus nine. I changed my mind at the last minute.
I like that, Denver minus nine. Here's how many games
the Panthers have lost by nine points or less this season.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Zero, There's not one. Their six losses are by the
final score or you know result that they lost by
thirty seven, twenty three, ten, twenty six, thirty seven, eighteen
thirty three. That's crazy. I see thy.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Locker combination growing up, like thirty seven, ten thirty three,
something like that, like the screen. But here's the other
thing with with Bryce Young, I don't know. It just
makes it even worse for me.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Right, they didn't want him to start.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
No, they didn't want to. Like I think any Dalton's better.
I know Andy Dalton's had hand injury whatever.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
You know, some bad games the last couple of games, relatively,
But the reason why he was starting was because he
was better, and we saw that he was better for
a couple of weeks and.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
He was still Denver defense is not messing around either.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
It is so good.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
They have a little extra rest because they're coming off
of taps.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Are ten yes, coming fly back.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
He's coming back. Baron Browning came back last week.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Aaron Browning on his thigh pads as the Grim Reaper
because he's coming after quarterback souls Fair Halloween beamed. I
hate just so everyone else.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
I still am. I can't.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
I can't believe they were just taking away and I
can't believe we're still doing this podcast. Let's let's wrap
up with your third pick here.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
Okay, last, but not least. You know what, I think
this one's weird because it's a seven. But the Jets.
I think the Jets unfortunately beat your Patriots by Alisa touchdown,
because I think this is where the you know, we
saw the DeVante Adams things start to have him happen,
and we've seen Aaron Rodgers. You the world's biggest words
this year. I don't even like. I was reading that

(11:56):
presser and I was like, DANU want I speak French
to Deumont? Sure? What do you what it means? What
does it mean?

Speaker 1 (12:04):
It means like the end of something or just like
a fitting conclusion to something I don't know, like the
closing chapter. That's what I think it means. But you're
putting me on the spot.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean too. I thought you knew.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
I mean most of the listeners might not know that
he used.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Them of this place.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
I asked, don't you think the Patriots maybe maybe they'll
respond to Jared Rod Mayo saying that they were soft?

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Is he going to play No? That would be better.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
They've been so bad.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
I initially had them in my little box of extra
picks at the box plus seven just at the Jets. Man,
do the Jets deserve to be a seven point favorite
over anyone? I know, they destroyed the Patriots the first
time around. Usually it's tough to destroy a team twice,
Like the second game would be close when you played
twice in close.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Except for the it's not really a like they're not
as soft as Gerrod Mayo is saying, like they're playing
with guys we've never even heard.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Of before, especially on the offective line.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
I mean, there's to be happy about with Drake may
But then on the other side, it's like the old
lines confusing the defense, like all of their best defensive
players are on their couch or you know, on the sideline. Yes,
it's it's not were there, you know in other teams
like in Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
I can't imagine the when I get from my wife
Emica about this entire thing.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
I blew it. I'm in big I'm in big trouble.
So uh, that's my last sorry with the Panthers.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
You want me to go to But if I go distract,
should I go? No?

Speaker 3 (13:28):
That that part is over. We blew it and I
don't know.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
I don't know how they found us here hiding out
in the in the control room, but I will, I'll try.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
I'll find out soon.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Did you pick your third one? Just go quick, you
don't even have it was.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
The Denver so to review. I took the Packers minus
three and a half. I took the Bengals minus two
and a half, and I took the Broncos minus nine.
I have two straight winning weeks. And your picks were
the Jets minus seven, the Steelers minus six and a half.
And then what was the first pick.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Was me and Walker.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
I liked that a lot. That's Walk and I like
that a lot. My little extra picks, by the way,
which haven't been doing as well lately, went one to
two last week.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
We're at twelve and seven for the season. These are
just little really, just if you're curious for a little
extra analysis on one they do like.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
I like the Bucks as a home underdog this week.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
I just think it's gonna be tough again a division
matchup where you're trying to sweep a team. I think
the foundation of that offense is actually really good in
terms of the offensive line and the scheme and so
that that they can maybe surprise people. I hate this
Falcons defense, their pass rush.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
I just don't think they're a good team.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
I kind of like the Saints getting seven points in
Los Angeles against the Chargers. They have about five or
six healthy starters coming back this week. Just don't know
if the Chargers are worth the way they play football.
Seven points is a lot. And then yeah, I agreed
with you on Washington, So that was another one. We
both kind of like Washington as a little extra pick.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
I like Washing either way, and if Jane Daniels was playing,
it is a great pick.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Either way, we like it.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
I'm feeling no, I'm sorry, I don't know what to say.
I like, go fix the family. I will try to
get the family back to the family first.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
We will be back on Sunday with our recap show.
That's it for the week. Love everyone, tune in, go
check out the YouTube channel, subscribe, like, tell your friends
about the podcast, and it's going to be a really
fun recap show on Sunday night. No buyes this week.
And yeah, when the Rosenthal family is on the loose,
on the running from the law, you know football is
