Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Welcome to Good Morning Football. Look at this.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
We are all at the breakfast table today along with
Isaiah Stands, back Rashad Jennings, and longtime guest, first time
co host Tarn Armstead. My name is m j Acassa Ruiz.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Let's start the show.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Good morning fall, Good morning everybody. You know, we haven't
done a fantastic job of being bright eyed, bushy tailed
when it's dark and early in Los Angeles, but here
we go.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
That is our jobs.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Heye Tron, one hour down, How are you feeling?
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Feeling great?
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Away? Fantastic, he said it. Let's roll.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Let's get to the lead block, and there's a lot
of meat on this phone.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Guys.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Former Louval teammates.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Lamar Jackson and Guya Alexander are now reunited in Baltimore
the Ravens, adding him to a cornerback room that includes
twenty twenty four first rounder Nate Wiggins.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
And veteran Tobodeo Woozier.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
All pro Marlon Humsbrey is happy that the offense is
stacked with stars, but he wants the defense to be
front of center to listen.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
I feel that when I first came to the Ravens,
it was all about the Ravens defense. It was all
about the Ravens defense. It was all about the Ravens defense.
And I feel like I've let that standard be in here,
I think, the longest defensive guy, I feel like I've
let that standard kind of slip, and that's something that
I want to get back.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
I want it.
Speaker 6 (01:41):
Obviously, we love Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
It's a great, great player, but I want, you know,
the Ravens identity to be defense.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Okay, that's a strong statement, and I like that, and
he's hands on that. Okay, the Ravens have bolstered their defense.
Lamar is arguably at the peak of his powers. Derrick
Henry is still.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
At the top of his game. I mean, the stars.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
Really seem to be aligned for this odd But what
will the twenty twenty five season mean for the Baltimore
Ravens and more specifically for Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 7 (02:10):
I truly believe that, you know, what you just heard
on air is what they have to give back to you.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
I really believe that their defense.
Speaker 7 (02:16):
Has always been at the core, has really been the
ethos of the Baltimore Ravens. That's what we've known them
to be over all their successful years, and I really
think that they're really going to take a tremendous step forward.
You talk about zach Or in his first year as
a defensive coordinator, he was out there able to do
some things. They're able to have a top ten defense,
but they weren't dominant, right. They were effective, they were impactful,
they impacted a game in a lot of different ways.
(02:36):
But I think that now with some of the additions
that they have, right they have the Kyle Hamilton as
to be out there, you have Humphreyes Okay, Jyry Alexander,
you have a try you know, a three headed monster
out there, the quarnerback position that's going to allow their
safeties and now be able to intermingle and do the
things that they want to do. Then you look at
the Kyle Van Noys. You know, you got and made Bouquet,
who can go out there and do some things as well.
(02:57):
He's a problem on the inside. So I think that
they now have gotten back to having a solid front
seven and the one piece that they were missing was
having that three head of months at the quarnerback position.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Now they have it.
Speaker 7 (03:06):
Now they can go out there and be dominant on
the defense side of the ball.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Yeah, and they're always going to be defense, a defensive
mindset of team. I think even with Lamar Jackson, I
love Humphrey taking that ownership and responsibility and trying to
put it back on the defense.
Speaker 6 (03:19):
That's what he's supposed to do.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
That's what I'll staying in athletes, premier players, captains of
teams do put the onus on me.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
I love that about them.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
They are going to have a dominant regular season, as
I see them doing consistently. Lamar Jackson arguably is going
to be the MVP of the National Football League every
single year. I see that for them, though, they have
to be chopping at the bit, licking their chops for
post season.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Now.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
They can't overlook the regular season. I mean, this is
the NFL. Anything can happen, but those guys get it
back to the postseason and doing something there.
Speaker 6 (03:55):
I mean, that's where you get the itch.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Off of your back, and I feel like they have
to answer that. This is their year to prove that.
I think they have one of the better teams. They're
gonna be dominant. They're gonna be explosive, We're gonna talk
about them, Fantasy points a gonna be everywhere.
Speaker 6 (04:09):
But when we get to.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
The postseason, I'm foreshadowing this what is gonna happen.
Speaker 8 (04:14):
I would even go so far to say that the
Ravens are on my way too early AFC Super Bowl favorite.
I can see them coming out of the AFC. I
think this is the year that they get.
Speaker 6 (04:24):
Over the hump.
Speaker 8 (04:25):
Lamar has been la marvelous throughout his career. He has
been and to your point, regular season they have been.
They have done really well. Postseason not so much. But
it's hard to even go back after heartbreaking in the
playoffs to go to pick yourself back up and go
win the division again and again. It's hard to do.
And that's the goal every year. You want to put
yourself in position to wins. You want to win the
(04:46):
division first, then you look at a playoffs season. So
they have done that to be able to knock the
Chiefs offt and knock the Buffalo Bills off in the playoffs.
Get you get a sound like Jyron Alexander to come over.
I think he is that piece that put them over
to hump. I think that that addition is the one
to put them over the hump. It frees up Cayl
Hamilton so much doesn't have to worry about the back
end coverage of so to be able to support in
(05:08):
the run game, to be able to blitz and add
pressure with the guys that they have on the outside.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
I think this is the year they get over their home.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
You mentioned Lamar there for a second, because how do
you view him as you continue to see his trajectory
so many MVP awards, success in the playoffs, but no
Super Bowl appearance.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
That's a heavy cross to bear.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (05:28):
No, Seriously, he's been He's been battling Patrick Mahons as
the whole league. Mahons is dominated the AFC. He has,
he has, and I think with Lamar we've seen progress.
We've seen him only get better as a passer, more
comfortable as a passer. His anticipation, his pre snap breeze,
he's excelling. He's growing and that's only going to get
(05:48):
better for this guy that he's coming more cerebral of
the game. We know what he can do with his legs,
but he's getting even more dangerous with his arm, not
to mention that the truck he has behind him wearing
twenty two Derrick Henry is just I think this is
the year that they get over their home.
Speaker 6 (06:04):
Dereck Henry has actual motives this year.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
I don't know if y'all ran across that Adam Sandlers
offered them in a few rush for two K. So
I think everybody is going to be fan one and
for this to happen. Running the football. We all know
if you go watch any and everybody in the playoffs
and if you can control the run game, it's constant
and we're always in the locker room every single year.
(06:26):
We need to stop the run and we need to
establish to run. They can do both, and so I
think again, yes, this could be their year, but it
has to be their year. If this team, this dominant team,
everybody's healthy, doesn't make postseason, there'll be a lot of
question marks around player.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
That's fair.
Speaker 7 (06:45):
Yeah, I'm going to continue to go back to the
defense side, I think. But the one element that they've
been missing this is be able to go out there
and shut down the offensive. Onslought from Buffalo from Kansas City, right,
and now you go out there, you.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Have Hamilton, you have Starks, you have Humphrey.
Speaker 7 (06:59):
You have these guys that can go out there and
line up, and you can intermingle these guys where if
you want to. In the secondary, the front seven is nasty.
We already know the front seven. They don't allow anybody
to run the ball d line. The solid linebackers are solid,
they can get to the quarterback. But now you can
have this complimentary game, all three fasts, the special teams
in solid and offensively, what do you want to do?
You want to run the ball, take time off the
clock right when the defense steps.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
On the field.
Speaker 7 (07:21):
What do you want You want to be able to
go ahead and shut down the run game and stop
them from being able to convert on third down so
you can get the ball back in the hands of
your offense. This is starting to look like a team
that is going to be dominant, regardless of how great
Lamar Jackson is, because of the fact that he doesn't
have to bear that weight. He could turn around. Can
the ball off fall for five yards? Let's do it
over and over again until we end up at point six.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
There's a phrase we say often, especially when we think
about teams like the Ravens, like.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Man they're built different.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
But standing on the sidelines in Baltimore in January, I
can confirm it. It's a different kind of cellular makeup
to be able to play in that type of atmosphere
to win and then consistently move.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
On crazy all right.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
The Ravens, Bills, and Chiefs have been at the top
of the AFCWST few years. However, a handful of teams
appear to be right on the cusp of breaking through.
So which AFC team could be that breakthrough team in
twenty twenty five or well?
Speaker 1 (08:15):
Listen here, look, I'm telling you right now, AFC NFC,
it don't matter. You see whoever coming out of sofar
that team on both sides are the teams to watch.
With no doubt AFC. I'm definitely going with the Chargers.
I just realized the Chargers first round. Chargers are stacked
with first rounders. You got Herbert, justin Herbert's quarterback first rounder,
(08:38):
Joe left tackle, first rounder, Naji Harris first round of
coming over playing running back O Marion Hampton first rounder
drafted out of running back, Mike Williams first rounder, Quentin
Johnson first rounder. Then you got Lad mcconfree, second round.
He was early second round, and then they just picked
up Trey Harris, which out the NCAA.
Speaker 4 (08:58):
He led all of.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
College football one hundred and twenty eight yards per game,
the sixty six plus percentage of contestant catch rate, which
means somebody was in his face and he still caught
the ball, ladies and gentlemen. He only played eight games
and led all of NCAA coming out of old miss.
So when you give Herbert, you give Jim Haulball who
(09:21):
came out of her minding in Stanford. It took them
eleven and one to turn them into twelve and one.
Went to the forty nine ers when they were six
to ten, three national excuse me, three NFC championship games
and also won a Super Bowl.
Speaker 6 (09:33):
And then he went to Michigan and he wanted.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
The three straight college football playoffs along with Finatty. This
guy came in to the Chargers first year, took them
to the playoffs. He is a winner. The team has
first rounders everywhere. Watched them in the AFC this year.
See oh yeah yeah.
Speaker 8 (09:52):
Face valid point, valid points. I will stay in that division.
I'm going Denver Broncos. I think Denver Broncos have a
chance to knock Kansas City off as the top of
the AFC West and beat the.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
Team to break through. I was with Sean Pagnon for
nine years.
Speaker 8 (10:07):
Great head coach, future Hall of Fame head coach, super
Bowl champion. I've watched him. We've seen him collectively as
football fans. We've watched him rebirth a city organization when
they won a Super Bowl down in New Orleans.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
So we've seen this before.
Speaker 8 (10:20):
How he came, how he brought Drew Brees and that
explosion of an offense, and how that progressed.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
Into eventual Super Bowl champions. He got his guy. He
went and got bow Knicks.
Speaker 8 (10:30):
The relationship with him and Russell Russell Wilson didn't been
pan out so well. He got the guy that he
that he wants to groom, that he can build this
franchise around.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
I think bow Knicks takes that sophomore jump.
Speaker 8 (10:40):
He takes a jumps, he's poised, he he's under control,
he's explosive. Then defensively, what they were able to do
under Vans Joseph was nothing short of incredible. He got
the best corner in the game, Patrick Shertain, Brandon Jones,
and they can really get out of the passer with
Nick Bonito and those guys up front. I like the
Denver Broncos to be the ones to knock off the
(11:01):
Chiefs and represent that AFC West year.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
You think they cannot, I see it.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
I can see about that much. I got that much
faith and Sean Payton.
Speaker 7 (11:13):
So you bring up Sean Payton right, and you obviously
you've seen him with Drew Brees, and now he obviously
has the opportunity to work with bow Knicks. What kind
of leap do you see bow Knicks having having worked with.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
Sean Payton now going into a second year.
Speaker 8 (11:24):
Sean Payne is a quarterback guy, like that's that's his
one position that that he really locks in. He was
a quarterback. I don't know how well he did the
position like himself, but coaching the position, he really he
really understands the position. He really understands what defenses are doing.
He has indicators in his offense to allow the quarterback
(11:45):
to read, so his motions, his personnelity sets, it's all
for it for a reason. So it allows bo Knicks
to have a clear picture of I'm seeing cover two,
I'm seeing cover three. He knows what's happening before the snap.
Sean Payton does that better than anybody in the league.
Speaker 7 (11:59):
Okay, I hear you guys. You guys are saying, but
I'm going to go to rag. You know what I'm
saying this is we talk about the AFC. You know,
let's go ahead and talk about these Houston Texas.
Speaker 4 (12:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (12:07):
Demiko Ryans, Yeah, that guy right there, the good player
turned you know, really good coach as well.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
These guys are a complete problem. And why are these
guys the problem?
Speaker 7 (12:16):
Well, we know Demiko Ryans for playing what defense? Right,
we know these guys for having what defense. Not only
do we know the head coach, but we know what
the team is a representation of their coach. That means
that they had a top six, top six defense in
the league last year. They were top four in sacks
last year. So these guys are going to get after
the QB. These guys are going to take the ball away.
(12:36):
These guys are not going to allow you to get
any yards.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
Where were they missing last year?
Speaker 7 (12:40):
Last year, even though they still won the division, even
though they were ten and seven, they were still missing
their offensive pieces.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
C J. Strauld can't do it by himself.
Speaker 7 (12:48):
Nico Collins got hurt, You got Tank Dale got hurt.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Stefan Diggs got hurt.
Speaker 7 (12:54):
All his receivers, not his number one, not only his
number two, but his number three.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
All three of them were taking off the map.
Speaker 7 (13:00):
They all came back at some point except for Stefan Diggs.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
But this dude didn't have his weapons. So what do
they do this year?
Speaker 7 (13:06):
This year, they said, no, no, no, we're not going
to run into that problem anymore. Let's go out there
and just throw a bunch of guys into the into
the receiver room. So not only does Tank Dale come
in back healthy, not only do we have Nico Collins,
but we went out there and got Christian Kirk. Okay,
we went ahead and solidified the offensive line to make
sure that he destreu is not looking over his shoulder
every single play, and I ended up on his back.
These guys have a bunch of weapons at the receiver position.
(13:28):
They're giving him time at the QB position now with
the offensive line that can protect him, and the defense
is going to continue to do what they do. Only
team that can say that won the division and is
going to get better.
Speaker 6 (13:40):
I'm just I'm just listening. I'm with him on everything.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
But I found something consistent because you talked about this
with the Cowboys, and you talked about this.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
You just like everything in Texas, don't you.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
But listen he said on the Cowboys said to Texas,
he referred to remember this. He said that what happened
to Dallas, they were hurt injured. What did he say
about the Texas hurt injured? We all know injuries is
part of the game.
Speaker 7 (14:03):
So I don't know absolutely right, But what hurt them
last year was the receivers being hurt. Right, the receivers
are all, yeah, I give you so. So now they
went out there and fixed that problem. Not only are
to bring their guys back. They picked up Christian Kirk,
they picked up Braxon Barriers, they picked up Justin Watson.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
They picked up all these guys. They picked up like
four more receivers.
Speaker 7 (14:22):
So just in case are one and two go down,
we have some other guys that we can lean on.
They learned from their mistakes, they replenished their their goods,
and they're getting ready to go out there and take
it on.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
I don't think C. J.
Speaker 8 (14:31):
Stroud had the jump that we all anticipated from his
rookie year, so I can see if he can get
back to his rookie year magic and make that that progression.
I like Houston, I do.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
I do.
Speaker 8 (14:40):
I think they're a complete team offense, defense, and special teams.
They did lose Laramie Tunsel, who's been one of the
best left tackles over the last decade. They brought An
Robinson and Trent Brown as well, so added some more
to solidify that O line. I like Houston, I do.
It all comes down to CJ. Stroud and his progression.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
And they drafted two wide receivers out of the same college,
didn't they.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
I believe Texas didn't they.
Speaker 4 (15:02):
I think of Jaydon Higgins. Yeah, yeah, they pick they
pick us? Yeah, absolutely, they.
Speaker 6 (15:06):
Do look good. I'm a fan. I'm a fan. I
really do.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
The late defense run the ball, and they got in
a smooth quarterback.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
Like you said something about running the ball.
Speaker 6 (15:14):
Yeah, they run it.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Who's there running back again? Oh man?
Speaker 7 (15:19):
And so when mixing goes out, us comes to a
running that's that's crazy.
Speaker 6 (15:23):
That's heavy.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Like what we've seen from the combination of Demico and
CJ together as a head coach, QB has been really
really exciting to see.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
I do want to feel bigger jump. I think it'll happen.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Our guys, Today is Olympic Day. We will have two
of the best women's flag football players in the world,
Isy Drazy and Cody Fuller.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
They're going to be right here in.
Speaker 7 (15:45):
The stud plus Bill Ben Johnson bring to Caleb Williams
in the Bears offense, we'll get into.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
It is GMFB on a Monday.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Let's go now, you guys know whatifs?
Speaker 9 (15:58):
Mom?
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Who is?
Speaker 6 (16:01):
Who is? Good morning?
Speaker 3 (16:12):
All right, welcome back everybody, and a couple of topics
here that we have to unpacked.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
We're going to go for two.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
And the first Fanatics Boundfest was last week and Bears
quarterback Taylor Williams had this to say about his new
head coach.
Speaker 6 (16:27):
It's been awesome Ben Johnson. Uh.
Speaker 10 (16:29):
He uses some choice words every day towards me, but
he's tough and I I love him.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
He's awesome.
Speaker 6 (16:35):
It's it's been great being around and we hang out.
Speaker 10 (16:38):
In his office and we just, you know, we we
we have lunch sometimes and things like that.
Speaker 6 (16:41):
We just you know, building this bond.
Speaker 10 (16:43):
And relationship to to be able to last a while.
And so uh and I know Bears fans you know,
it's it's it's year after year typically or every other
year where where the Bears where uh you know, coaches
and in quarterbacks specifically are our in and out and
our goal is to be here for a while.
Speaker 6 (17:00):
So we've been building this.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Bond and relationship and you know it's been going.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Well, let's start with our former to be I hate
the same former because that's our too. Me right here,
good Isaiah. What will the difference be with Ben Johnson
For Caleb Williams. I want something tangible that when it happens,
we're gonna be like, Okay, that's it.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
That's the Ben Johnson Differently.
Speaker 4 (17:20):
Yeah, there's two things that I'm going to be looking for.
Speaker 7 (17:22):
The first thing is going to be you know, it's
going to be his command at the line of scrimmage
right to your arm, you understand im potine that is
as the offensive liignment. I think that last year he
was out there running around just trying to make things happen,
even though in my eyes he had success twenty touchdowns,
twenty six interceptions, sixty two percent on the completion. But
I think that the confidence that Ben Johnson is going
to instill in him, I think the demand of the
(17:44):
requirements that he's going to ask of him to step
to the line of scrimmage, command the offensive line, really
be able to be in tune with what the defense
is doing, to be able to put your team in
the best position possible.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
I think you're going to see a.
Speaker 7 (17:55):
Completely different aura of Caleb Williams step into the line
of scrimmage and being comfortable and confident. And then the
second part is because he's going to be comfortable and
confident and be able to come unicate properly to all
his teammates. Now you're going to see different type of
body language out of him. Last year, the body language
as we saw to him, he was all over the place, right.
He hadn't really matured in that area. I don't think
he truly understands the impact that even though nothing might
(18:17):
come out of your mouth, what you see on your face,
how you walk around, your teammates are watching you.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
As the quarterback of.
Speaker 7 (18:23):
An organization, not just a college of an organization, everybody's
watching everything that you do. So I think by him
taking more command, getting up there controlling everything, I think
he will take on the more leadership role that will
impact every aspect of his game.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Yeah, and if you look at him, man, I tell
you they're stacked over there with the Bears. But they
got three really good wide receivers, two good tight is,
two good running backs, great defense you're bringing over with Johnson,
who we understand him is to be.
Speaker 6 (18:51):
I think everybody's kind of looking for that.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Young kind of vocal guru, that Sean McVay, that youngster.
I think Johnson is one of those guys. It's like, hey,
who is he?
Speaker 6 (19:01):
What is he?
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Does?
Speaker 1 (19:02):
He understand the quarterback position in that well, and I
think it's going to help Williams majorly having him in
a position. But the thing they have to get over
right is presence in the pocket. I think that's gonna
be the biggest thing for him. We know he can move,
he can shuffle, he can extend plays. But they brought
over three Pro Bowler offensive lineman. I mean they are
(19:23):
draft You talk about the Texans making a lot of
moves for their quarterback and for their franchise. The Bears
did the same thing this year, So they gonna be
They're gonna be tough in that division. I believe it's
kind of open.
Speaker 8 (19:34):
I agree with you with the Bears being being a
stacked team. I am really optimistic about the Bears' future.
I am the coaching changes that they brought in, not
only Ben Johnson, but to speak on Ben Johnson and
what he built in Detroit under Dan Campbell. The identity,
that's what I didn't really see from the Chicago Bears
last year. I didn't really see a structure or an identity.
(19:55):
They're going to have that. They're going to have an identity.
They're going to have a way that they want to
play the football game.
Speaker 4 (19:59):
And that's physical, as fast and decisive.
Speaker 8 (20:02):
So his his pocket awareness and what he's able to
do in the pocket, Ben Johnson will definitely that'll be
the biggest point of emphasis him to have that time
to be on time and on target within the offense.
But they bring in Dan Rochar to coach office line
with the additions that they that they brought in is
Joe Tony Jonah Jackson. They bring in Dennis Allen defensively
(20:24):
as well, and what he did in New Orleans when
we were there together top five defense five years in
a row. I'm really really optimistic about Chicago Bears.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Man.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
I just want to see it come together because a
year after year. We see it on paper and first
round picks and all of this stuff, but it never
translates to the field the way that we expected to.
So hoping that all of these things you guys are
saying is what actually results on the field.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
I know the Bears fans do too, all right.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
For our second topic, we'll move to the steel City Steelers.
Cornerback Darius Slay had this to say about his new.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
Cornerback Turn Rocks quote. I think he is a great.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Addition because the fact that we got a younger guy
that got drafted from Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
He can train him and help him get to where.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
He's at, bringing DK Metcalf along. So he doesn't have
to actually find him a true number one receiver. He's
got one that's right here and that's ready to go.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
It's going to be fun talk about a lot.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Of other people and not Rogers. Interesting anyway, I'm going
too deep perfect exam So even if Rogers isn't what
he used to be, he still has that MVP mind.
So what does the addition of Aaron Rodgers do for
the Steelers as a whole idea?
Speaker 7 (21:35):
I think it gives them about a confidence stepping on
the field. The last thing that you want to do
as a team is step on the field and not
have a QB one that you feel like you can
get behind. You know, I know, I played quarterback. I
play receipt ton of receiver in the league. When you
step out there, you need to know that that person
has it under control. You need to know that whatever
you're about to face when you break this huddle, that
(21:55):
he has an answer for it, whether that's in the
running game or the passing game, whether it's taking a
time out to get you out of a bad situation.
And I think that's the one question that he answers
for them. Yes, we could talk about his arm talent,
Yes we could talk about the receivers that he has
and everything else around him, but at the end of
the day, he is responsible for making sure that they
are in a positive place. And I don't think there's
any other quarterback outside of the Patrick Mahomes, you know,
(22:18):
the Josh Allen that you can step to the line
of scrimmage with and be like, you know what, I'm
one hundred percent confident that everything that's going to be
thrown at us, he's seen and we're going to be
in a positive position when his boss snapped.
Speaker 6 (22:28):
You know, you talk about the MVP mind.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
I don't think that's doing any good, you know, straight up,
because the we're talking about minds, right, if the minds
could throw a football, I mean, Tom Brady would.
Speaker 6 (22:40):
Have never retired.
Speaker 1 (22:41):
You know, you got Peyton Manny five MVPs. He never
would have retired if it was a mind throwing the football. Heck,
I might be able to throw that thing a little bit, so.
Speaker 6 (22:50):
My mind can work. But it's about being physical.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
It's about being out there, being with your.
Speaker 6 (22:55):
Team in the cold, in the heat, in the hot tub.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
All of these physical things are the reasons. Now, yes,
he will bring an enthusi and an energy to the
franchise at the organization because you think we got somebody
in here that can sling the rock. Understood, But you
got to remember last year he had a worse completion
percentage than mac Jones. Like these are I didn't make
these things up, these things that is on the internet,
(23:20):
you know.
Speaker 6 (23:20):
And so with that in mind, no, I don't add And.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
I got a question for y'all, which one do y'all
think is more realistic to happen?
Speaker 6 (23:27):
Truly?
Speaker 1 (23:28):
Just one or two yes or no. I don't know
what y'all can go with. But what is more realistic
to happen Aaron Rodgers some point in the season showing
up on Joe Rogan or Pat McAfee shout out to
both of them love those shows and announcing a retirement,
or him winning a playoff game with the Steelers. Which
(23:48):
one is more likely to happen.
Speaker 8 (23:50):
I would say a playoff game winning, okay?
Speaker 4 (23:55):
And the reason.
Speaker 6 (23:57):
I just want to see what?
Speaker 4 (23:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (24:00):
No, So I don't one thing about Aaron Rodgers is
once he's committed, I don't question his commitment of it.
Once he's made his decision right, however long that might be.
We know that once he decides that he's locked in,
he's locked in. And you also know that when Aaron
Rodgers steps in a room or steps on the field,
that he has to command and the confidence of his teammates.
I don't think anybody's ever questioned that about Aaron Rodgers.
There's a lot of things you can question about him,
(24:21):
but I don't think.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
You can ever question is he prepared? Oh yeah, prepared?
Speaker 7 (24:25):
Is he going to put his guys in the best
position possible?
Speaker 4 (24:27):
And can he deliver?
Speaker 7 (24:28):
I don't think there's ever been a question about any
of those things about Aaron Rodgers, and I think that
is why this team is going to be so much
more competent. Now, do they have enough talent? That's where
my questions lie. But in terms of Aaron Rodgers and
his contributionships, I don't have any questions that he's going
to be of your greatest value to this organization.
Speaker 8 (24:43):
For me is what the stealers are acting Aaron Rodgers
to do. If they're asking him to be MVP Green
Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers, we don't see it.
Speaker 4 (24:50):
I don't see that.
Speaker 6 (24:51):
I don't.
Speaker 8 (24:52):
But if they're asking him to manage the game, to
convert third downs to score touchdowns in the red zone,
the Stellers can be dangerous because this is a defensive team.
You talked about the Cowboys defense and the optimism. That's different.
This is a real system, you know what I mean?
This defense in Pittsburgh. They get turnovers, they get off
the field.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
TJ. Watt, hot Smith rushing off the edge.
Speaker 8 (25:14):
Cam Hayward is in year whatever and he's still dominant
year after year. Minka Fitzpatrick. Those guys can get the
ball back to Aaron Rodgers, so he's going to have
a lot more opportunities to create plays and create touchdowns.
I would bring up Drew Brees and at the end
of his career, his lack of physicality with his shoulder,
(25:35):
he wasn't able to throw the ball, throw the ball
forty fifty yards down the field, but mentally what he
was able to do pre snap and his diagnosis of everything.
Drew converted third downs at a higher clip than anybody
in NFL history, and he scored touchdowns in the red zone.
So we were able to go far at twenty eighteen, twenty, nineteen,
twenty twenty, even though Drew his physicality was declining.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Yeah, I think Aaron Rodgers, without a doubt, he's a
Hall of Famer.
Speaker 6 (26:01):
Yeah. Yeah, he's one of the best quarterbacks we've seen
play the game.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
It's just that at this juncture in his career, you
just don't know what you're gonna get, and that's a
hard thing to hang your head on.
Speaker 6 (26:13):
Is a hope and you're.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Not going into But I think if he's taking a
role locker room guy, you know, wanted to develop the
quarterbacks behind him, pushing the ball down the field. Yeah,
I mean the Steelers are they made the playoffs every
year without a quarterback being there, right, So yeah, he
adds value for sure, But just the mind of it,
I don't think matters at this point's.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
Going to be filled.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
It goes back to the mind, doesn't it churn?
Speaker 3 (26:36):
But I will say I think last year was so
abysmal for Rogers.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
He's like, can't go out like that?
Speaker 4 (26:41):
I agree.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
Now there's if ever there was a boulder on his shoulder?
Is there now for charge? In Miami, Jalen Ramsey and
the Dolphins have been trying to work out a trade
for the cornerback, but wide receiver Tyreek Hill says if
he had it his way, Ramsey would stay in South Florida.
Ramsey is saying at fanatics Best over the weekend that
he's gonna put the full court press on Ramsey to
(27:03):
try and keep him an adult this Jersey Hill also
saying Ramsey is a great teammate and leader Addie quote,
who's just need him on the Dolphins. Panther is running
back to the Hubbard tells ESPN dot Com he wants
to play for Canada's flag football team at a twenty
twenty eight Olympic game. Hubbard, who is from Edmondson, Alberta, Canada, says, quote,
(27:23):
if they want me to become part of it, it
would be an honor. And Chiefs side end Travis Kelsey
is coming off his worst season statistically of his future
Hall of Fame career, but after re signing with Casey
this offseason, he says he's already made some adjustments to
help him get back to his all pro level of play.
Speaker 11 (27:43):
I'm down some weight, yeah, from the end of the
season last year, but each year is different, man. You
got to you gotta rebuild it. And this year got
some time to really focus on some form running and
some things early on in the offseason that I just
didn't have time for last year, and certainly feeling good
and I think it'll pay off.
Speaker 4 (28:03):
Man.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
When we come back, we'll be joined by two of
the best women's flag football.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Players in the world.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
Is a Jerasi from the US national team and Tody
Fullard from Australia right here with us.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Good morning football.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
Playing in the Olympics is the gold standard for flag
right now.
Speaker 9 (28:36):
I was super happy that I found out football is
going to be an Olympics.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
Makes me want to push harder to be an Olympians.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
Every player on this field wants to get there. Today
is Olympic Day, a worldwide celebration of the Olympic movement,
and with men's and women's flag football making its historic
Olympic debut at the twenty twenty eight Games, here in
Los Angeles, we are being joined today by two of
the best elite level women's flag football players in the world.
(29:06):
Is it Jacy from the US national team and Cody
Fuller from Team Australia. Every time I try to convince
myself that, man, maybe I could pick this up in time,
I then run into women's players. I'm like, now, y'all
got it.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
It's all you are right.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
So the past weekend you both were here in Los
Angeles participating in the USA Football Summer Series. We want
to hear all about it, So Izy just walk us
through how everything.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Went, Man, it was. It was a week of a
lot of fun.
Speaker 9 (29:38):
We had I think seven practices in four games, so yeah,
it was. It was a lot of fun. We got
to practice together, we practiced. All the countries there or
men's teams or junior teams were there.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
So yeah, it was a lot of fun and about you.
We had a great time.
Speaker 12 (29:52):
We had to come off a long flat so it
took a couple of days to get adjusted, but once
we got into it, we all have the best time,
really cool experience for us to be going up against
you know, the best in the world and some other
countries as well.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
So yeah, you came from the future, we did. So.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
Yeah, absolutely well.
Speaker 7 (30:09):
I got two part questions for both of you ladies, right,
I'm going to start off with you easy first. But
what does it mean for you guys that flag is
going to be an Olympic sport?
Speaker 4 (30:17):
And what would it mean?
Speaker 7 (30:18):
How proud would you be for you to be able
to represent your country at the LA twenty eight Olympics.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Oh, it would be surreal.
Speaker 9 (30:24):
I think every young athlete growing up wants to represent
their country in the Olympics. I never would have thought mine,
my chance or opportunity would be in flag football, but
here we are, and I'm like more than blessed to
be able to do this sport and it'd be such
an honor to represent my country.
Speaker 6 (30:38):
Awesome.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Yeah, pretty much the same, I think. I mean.
Speaker 12 (30:41):
Once, once the announcement came out, it kind of brought
a sense of legitimacy to our goals and aspirations, and
I think having it in LA twenty eight is huge
and it gives us something to strive towards. So it
would mean everything to be able to be on that stage.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
Happy Olympic Day.
Speaker 8 (30:57):
First off, ladies, How has the LA twenty eight flag
announcement created of international growth and excitement about the sport.
Speaker 12 (31:08):
In Australia where flag is relatively new it's only kind
of really been around for a couple of years. It's
really put a firecracker in the sport, like everyone is
now watching, everyone's getting involved and wanting to play, our
youth programs developing and really taking off. So I think
that Olympic announcement has done big things for the sport
(31:28):
in Australia.
Speaker 9 (31:29):
Yeah, I think same here even though flag has kind
of been here a little longer, it's really like being
put on the map and had a spotlight on it.
So I know, I think there's maybe like sixteen states
that have it sanctioned as a sport for girls flag
football and high school. So I think pushing that and
seeing that the Olympics is going to have it as
a sport is really like getting girls involved around the country.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
Nice and a big part of Olympic Day is to
focus on encouraging athletes moving together, working together. And is
this something you can relate to as flag athletes And
why do you think it is important?
Speaker 6 (32:00):
Go to you first?
Speaker 4 (32:01):
One hundred percent.
Speaker 9 (32:02):
I think it's super important just because you're getting involved
in other sports.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
With other teammates.
Speaker 9 (32:06):
I think, like this weekend, we saw we got to
play together, we got to practice together. So to be
able to like intermingle, especially with other countries and people
that are playing the sport in a different world almost
to kind of see how they play it, it's just
great for the sport in general.
Speaker 4 (32:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (32:19):
Sorry, building the connections with other countries really helps, I
mean us grow the game globally, so doing things like
this where obviously we're doing international friendlies and there is
that kind of highly competitive nature that we all have,
but getting to do scrimmages and drills and things like
that kind of takes the pressure off a little bit
and helps us develop and build those relationships.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
I find one of the coolest things through the NFL
games being played internationally that we start to meet the
athletes on the flag side internationally.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
So I've been able to meet the women from.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
Italy and Germany and it's so cool to see that
level of athleticism and Izzy you on the powerhouse Team
USA women won gold at the twenty twenty four IFAF
World Flag Championship, where you go up these women tell
us about this year's team.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Man, We're just super excited.
Speaker 9 (33:08):
I feel like we kind of like have this gold
standard and that's kind of our mindset and then are
we not me mindset and we're just kind of here
to prove ourselves right is our big thing. So I'm
super excited to be able to play with these girls.
We've got a few new additions so to be able
to get them out on the field and stuff and involved.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
So it's gonna be really fun.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
That's so. All right, I got another two part question
for you.
Speaker 7 (33:26):
Are kicking off with you, Cody, I know I got
the two partners.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
We listen.
Speaker 7 (33:30):
The NFL is gonna be playing is first every game
in Australia in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
All right. First part of the.
Speaker 7 (33:34):
Question is how much of an impact do you think
is going to have on the fandom of the fans
in Australia.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
For the NFL to be playing games there, and.
Speaker 7 (33:42):
Then are you excited about the potential of Flag being
an Olympic sport in Brisbane thirty two?
Speaker 4 (33:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (33:49):
I think the NFL game coming to Australia is huge,
huge for us. I've seen the fandom kind of explode
over the last couple of years. It's on a really
good trajectory and I think having the game come out
there is going to add like even more I guess
accessibility and visibility to the game, which I think is
what we need. Everyone everyone knows about the NFL. It's
on some some weird time zones for us. We have
(34:09):
to get up really early to watch the games. But
to have a game out there is going to be
really big for the game, I think in terms of
Prisbone thirty two, I mean that would be insane.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
We're really hoping for it.
Speaker 12 (34:19):
I think we've got such a good sporting culture in
Australia and our Flag program is really taking off, so
I think it'd be a really full circle moment for
us to get it into into Prisbone thirty two would
be amazing.
Speaker 3 (34:30):
I was doing some updates for like a prime time
NFL game for the Australia audience.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Wait where are They're like, they're at the pub. Don't
worry about what I'm in. They're locked in. That checks out.
Speaker 6 (34:41):
Tracks.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
I'm very glad.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
I thank you both so much for joining us, for
growing the game, for representing of course, and best of
luck with your training over the next few months.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Thank you.
Speaker 11 (34:52):
I'm down some weight, yeah, from from the end of
the season last year, But each year is different, man.
Speaker 6 (34:58):
You got to you got to rebuild it.
Speaker 11 (34:59):
And this year I got some time to really focus
on some some form run and some things early on
in the offseason that I just didn't have time for
last year, and certainly feeling good and I think it'll
pay off.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
Man.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
All Right, so last season and the way that they wanted.
Of course, many questions about Travis Kelcey seems to have
answered that right. He's back, ready to go, slim and trim.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
He says.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
The question though, said the Chiefs still be the AFC favorites.
I know that you have nobody else talking about.
Speaker 8 (35:32):
Yeah, Look the Chiefs have they They owned the league,
owned the league. It was we went through this Patriots dynasty.
We're in the midst of this Chiefs dynasty. Even though
they came up short last year, they have the on
the league. They've dominated the AFC. Just a testament to
Travis Kelce, like he is an ultimate professional. As you're
getting older, you're getting up there in age. I just
(35:52):
finished twelve years. The true professionals like you pay attention
to those physical limit limits that that comes about with
age and experience, and you have to combat it and
the fact that he's dropping away, Like that's what I
started to do later in my career. Every year, try
to find ways to combat to the physical changes that happens.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
He's a true professional.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
You got Patrick Mahomes, you got Andy Reid, Travis Kelsey's
still there. They bring it back the healthy receivers like
we yes. In short, yes, I mean they are the dominant.
Going back to what you said, it's they're the premier team.
They've created a dynasty. They went to the super Bowl
last year. I mean, that's the only thing that you
could have done besides winn and so representing the AFC,
(36:35):
you have to.
Speaker 6 (36:36):
Go through them. There's no other way around it.
Speaker 1 (36:38):
And it's gonna be a tough season for a lot
of guys when they go see the Kansas City Chiefs,
especially when you play there. So yeah, when we talk
about the AFC, they are front runner. I did mention
the Chargers because they are gonna be tough to deal with.
Speaker 6 (36:50):
The Broncos are as well. I mean it's.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
Wide open, but if you cannot be Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 6 (36:56):
There's no shot. Yeah. I agree with you, guys.
Speaker 7 (36:59):
I mean, and I think everybody has to agree until
they're knocked off. Right, you're talking about we talk about
we talked a lot about injuries today, right. We talked
about the hopeful uh you know this of Dallas cow
Boys and some of the other teams in Euston, Texas
once they get healthy. Well, Kansas City had some of
those same issues last year and they still found a
way to the super Bowl. So not only did they
overcome their injuries, but now they're they've.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
Reloaded right, and they're ready to rock this thing this year.
Speaker 7 (37:23):
So you give Andy Reid a healthy offense and they
continue to do the things that they do with defensively,
that is the team that you have to go through.
I know that other teams are getting better, they're getting stronger,
but those are the Kings.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
Until you knocked the King off the mountain, they are
on top.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
Do you think there'll be a bit of a Super
Bowl hangover from a loss like that though for.
Speaker 7 (37:40):
The Chiefs all around.
Speaker 8 (37:44):
Yeah, we've seen it when it happened against Tampa Bagh when.
Speaker 4 (37:47):
They went and lost to Tom Brady.
Speaker 8 (37:49):
They responded and then Pat Mahons went right back to
the big dance and got another ring.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
So we've seen it.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
Yeah, We'll say they've been a playoffs. They've been a playoffs,
and we'll see what happens from there. I'm telling you,
it's like we I kind of feel like there's only
a couple spots open that new teams can kind of
get into the playoffs, you know what i mean.
Speaker 6 (38:07):
But other than that, we know the domine teams and
the Bills.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
You got Kansas City, I mean, we know they're going
to be there. So yes, they're on the top of
the mountain and you have to knock them off.
Speaker 7 (38:18):
You got Andy Reid, Steve Spank, know you, and then
you also have Patrick Mahonks. As long as you have
that three headed monster right there, you have to deal
with these guys, and they're gonna be a problem.
Speaker 4 (38:26):
For a long time. You know what I'm saying. They
do a really a great.
Speaker 8 (38:30):
Job of the small details, the little nuances that's not
necessarily stats or statistics, but just the late game situations,
the two minute drills and understanding Tom how to how
to manage Tom. They do a really great job of
protecting the ball and taking the ball away, just the separation.
(38:50):
They find a way to separate themselves from good teams
at the end of the game. Consistently, they probably won
the most one score yeah, one score games over the
last five years. Yeah, and I'm not surprised. That's why
they consistently to the big game, and.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
That's why it's scary.
Speaker 7 (39:06):
You started talking about those teams that are like, we
know kena City, we know the quality of ball that
they play, and we know that that was not it
last year and they were still at the Super you know,
they still at Super Bowl tea. You talked about winning,
you know, winning all those one possession games could have
win either way. Even though they're not playing up to
their standard, they're still etching games out. That is a
testament of a scary team. And we started talking about
(39:27):
the leadership qualities of Andy Reid. You started talking about
spac start talking about Patrick Mahomes. Now you're starting to
lean into what like Tom Brady was when he didn't
have the stacked rosters. But you always knew that they
were going to find a way to win the ball game.
That's the commience that Kansas City has. And then until
you figure that out, you have to worry about them
casts continue to being in that Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Yeah, we talked about parody a lot with this league,
and the thing is we know that year to year
everything is not going to be equal. It's not going
to be apples to apples from the year before. And
the Chiefs have certainly dealt with that. They've dealt with injuries,
They've dealt with young guys coming in rookies who have
showed out year after year even when nobody expected to
be remember that whole Oh, it's a reb the year
(40:04):
for the Chiefs, and suddenly they won the Super Bowl
that year. And that to me is that Jenna Saqua,
that that little extra spice that the Chiefs have. It's
that consistency that they have in their foundation, in their coaching,
in the true identity of that squad. They always find
a way and they have it there and they don't
flinch when things do go sideways and made it to
(40:25):
another Super Bowl. I know they lost badly, but still
they still did with all right, let's move to another team.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Another coach that's a foundational piece.
Speaker 7 (40:39):

for his team. He gotta play that. Oh they gotta
see that.

that he's getting in there, getting after you can't help
but being inspired as a player. We've all been in
the lockers before. We see that video like that. We
have a high regard and respect for him because you
imagine being in the locker room when your coach is
scored squad in full fifteen for four five as a
sixty two year.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
