Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Good Morning Football.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Welcome into Good Morning Football. I'm Jane Slater joined by
Jason mccordy. We've got Kyle Brant and we have got
Tom Pellasero out there and am very rainy Detroit. We're
glad that you guys are staying dry.

Speaker 4 (00:38):
We were and I think we feel great, and I
think the people of Detroit feel great. Jason was coming
after me ely on saying that I've been wearing Red
Wings stuff and Tiger stuff, and Jason was saying, I'm
not really a fan of those teams. Well, the only
thing I haven't been wearing is lion stuff. So a
fan came to the set yesterday and said, Kyle needs
some lion stuff, and they dropped off this really cool jersey.

Speaker 5 (01:01):
Yeah, it's back. It's the black jersey. Jason, I'm not kidding.
I wish I knew that the woman's name, but she said,
you got to represent the line.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
So she came to the Good Morning Football set drop
this off. It's really clean. It's my favorite Detroit Lion.
I will wear this.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
And also like he's also very wealthy now and it's
just all coming up Detroit, Tom.

Speaker 6 (01:17):
But for now you're sticking with Repin Eiserman feder Off.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
In the Boys.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Yeah, it's not been a great year for the Red Wings,
the fifth in the Atlantic. I googled that right before
the segment started. But thank you very much for the jersey.
We love you Detroit right back.

Speaker 7 (01:28):
We know that you googled it. You said, Ama raw
favorite Detroit Lion. Craig Reynolds right now pissed off that
you did not name him as your favorite Detroit Lion.
Just cheated on Ama rossa Bob, But that's okay. We'll
bet it pass go ahead. At some point, we like
you to put the jersey on too, so we'll see.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
All right, who is a team you cannot wait to
see hit the field?

Speaker 5 (01:49):
All right?

Speaker 4 (01:50):
So I was complimenting Tom earlier in the show that
in the opening segment of the show we talked about
the Carolina Panthers. We're the worst team in the league,
and I think that's what the draft is all about.
I am genuinely exciting, Jason, You're gonna love this. I'm
ready for the twenty twenty four Arizona Cardinals.

Speaker 5 (02:02):
Let's get into this.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
I have a soft spot for last year's Cardinals. I
think they were the toughest four win team I've ever seen.
They had quality wins over the Cowboys and the Steelers,
and they I think they really matter and I think
they've annihilated their draft. They get the Marvin Harrison junior pick,
It's great. It's like probably the best player in the
entire draft. And then Darius Robbinson the defensive and out
of Missouri, Max Melton from Rutgers for three, Trey Benson

(02:24):
the running back. I feel like when you start to
look at all these picks time, it's like, Man, the
Cardinals I think are really lining up really nicely.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
And I'll say this, I'm rooting for Kyler Murray hard
now because all.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
The jokes have been made, all the memes, all everything.
I think we're past that and now it's like, it's
pretty lame to make fun of Kyler Murray where he
used to leave that. I root for those type of
people that have been beaten down. I'm ready for the
Kyler Murray comeback season. And if you take it from
one of my favorite fans, Maggie from Mexico, the Arizona
Cardinals fan, I think she's probably slightly excited too.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
Tom.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
I know it feels weird to be like, let's hype
up the Arizona Cardinals.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
I don't care. They beat the Eagles at the end
of last year too. I like, and they turned it around,
and I love the picks that they've made.

Speaker 6 (03:03):
Everybody loves the whole FM picks. We're gonna give it up.
We're going all in right now. What money outsen for
doing a year ago. He traded back and back traded up.
We traded back a lot, got more picks. So also
you get more bites at the appling and they stand in.
You take Marvin Harrison that he got those extra picks.
This is how you rebuild an organization. I want to
talk about a team that did not have to rebuild,

(03:24):
but we never saw them in twenty twenty three, but
four four snaps. I am excited to see the team
that we've talked about more than anybody else through up
twenty twenty three relative to what they actually did, and
that is the New York Jets. You talked about Malachi
Corley just a little bit ago, future Angry Runs Scepter
Award winner. Think about what else the Jets have done

(03:44):
through the course of this offseason. You had Malakai Corley,
but you already added Mike Williams. You had a Tyrone
Smith upfront to help protect Aaron Rodgers, Olu Fashanu, everybody
wanted brought powers in New York though. You say, we're
gonna double down, We're gonna.

Speaker 5 (03:57):
Keep Aaron Rodgers up right here.

Speaker 6 (03:59):
They made a big trade to bring in a pass
rusher from Philadelphia, and Hassan read.

Speaker 5 (04:04):
This is a.

Speaker 6 (04:05):
Jets team that they've gotten one percent of the hype
through this offseason that we gave them a year ago.
And it's all because now they weren't all that relevant.
It was Zach Wilson, there was five different quarterbacks.

Speaker 5 (04:16):
It was all kind of a mess. Here.

Speaker 6 (04:17):
I am legitimately excited to see what the Jets could
actually do when their quarterback stays on the field for
a full series and hopefully a lot more.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
Damn right, I love it. That's actually talk some Jets, Jason,
you want to talk some Jets.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
I absolutely love that.

Speaker 7 (04:31):
Olan Foshon when he goes in that first round, you
see the family celebrating, everybody going nuts, and you're like,
all right, they're gonna actually protect Aaron Rodgers. They're gonna
be fine, and you love to see what they've been
able to do. Jets fans, they need to have a
big season after it ended in four plays last year.
A team that I'm looking at also in the AFC's
Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Tomlin called a lot of flag last year,

(04:52):
but he still got his team to the playoffs and
went through multiple quarterbacks this offseason. Obviously, the talk has
been Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, the two new quarterbacks
that are going to be leading now organization. Russell Wilson,
we look like it's going to be the starter to
get the opportunity first. Who knows which guy is going
to be under center for them all year long.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
But you look at their draft.

Speaker 7 (05:14):
They go two offensive linemen and Zach Fraser and Troy
file Tom and they're trying to show up that we
already talked about it.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
You get these quarterbacks, but we know what their bread
and butter is.

Speaker 7 (05:23):
You have two running backs and Najie Harris and they
have Jalen Warren.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
You're going to run the rock rate at people.

Speaker 7 (05:29):
Arthur Smith, the new offensive coordinator, wants to run the
ball and play action. When he was at his best
as the Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator, he had Derek Henry,
had big receivers like AJ Brown and Corey Davis, and
they were able to run the ball and.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Get the ball over the top to those guys.

Speaker 7 (05:44):
They also added Roman Wilson out of Michigan, a guy
in the slot who can make plays of goal alongside
George Pickens as well. So this is a team and
the Steelers that I'm fired up to see them when
they actually get on the field because we've talked about
these two quarterbacks so much and both falling short for
Justin Fields in Chicago for.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Russell Wilson into Denver with Broncos.

Speaker 7 (06:04):
So now seeing those guys and that black and yellow
for the Steelers, I want to see exactly what they're
going to look like this season.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Jay, who's the team that you're looking at?

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Gim me Washington making the NFSE East really interesting and spicy. Obviously,
they went out and got Jaden Daniels, who's a bona
fide Day one starter, a duel threat quarterback Austin Eckler.
You pair them with him win healthy, he can catch
the ball and run the ball. You've obviously got Terry McLaurin,
You've got John Dotson. They also grabbed I love this

(06:34):
one Kansas State tight end Bensonut. He's a hybrid fullback
early on in his career. He can play in the
slot and wide receiver. And then they got a defensive tackle,
got first round grades. He can play three technique. Compair
of that with Bobby Wagner. They went out and stole
Dorance Armstrong, Tyler Baddish, Dante Fowler from the Cowboys. And
we've seen how quick dan Quinn can turn around a
culture just in one year. So I think it's gonna

(06:56):
be really really interesting to see what they're going to
do with Washington and some of these guys in both
free agency and the draft. All right, let's talk about
non core guys. We spent a lot of time in
the last two days talking about them. Kyle, We'll start
with you. What is the guy that's a non quarterback
that you think is going to have an immediate Day
one impact.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Well, I was laughing yesterday when Peter was saying couldn't
and maybe shouldn't the other thirty one teams have a
pre draft meeting regarding the Chiefs like, can't we just
played defense on Kansas City a little bit. They've won
back to back Super Bowls. Apparently that meeting didn't happen
because they got literally the fastest player in NFL history

(07:36):
to Patrick Mahomes, and you credit the Chiefs for that,
and Xavier were almost You always get mad at the
other teams about how couldn't someone just fall on.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
That one and say, he doesn't.

Speaker 4 (07:46):
Really fit into our draft plans, We don't really actually
like him. In fact, we met him and we hated him,
but you know what, we're gonna draft.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
Him, So the Chiefs don't. Nobody did that. The Chiefs
got it.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
They got him with a pick they traded for the
comfort rival with. It's one of these things where you
can't actually believe that this happened. And here's what I believe. Dude,
Really don't think that Andy Reid is gonna have a
plan for him. Do you think they drafted him just
to sit him around and be on the back side
of some passes to Kelsey, No, Mahomes is gonna do
some reverse pivot, clap his hands, do a dance, throw

(08:18):
a backwards lateral to Worthy.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
He's gonna go three hundred yards for his first NFL touchdown.
You know what's gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
I know what's gonna happen, and Tom the rest of
the teams that didn't draft them know what's gonna happen.

Speaker 5 (08:27):
So you're just gonna have to just sit there and
take it. There were so many intriguing receivers. We saw a.

Speaker 6 (08:31):
Bunch go off the board up top and round one,
to the bottom of round one and at the top
round two.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
We didn't coordinate this, but you started.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
Off the show talking about Lad McConkie to the Chargers.

Speaker 5 (08:41):
That is an instant impact type of player.

Speaker 6 (08:43):
Yes, there were some medical concerns that contributed to him
going to.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
The second round third not in the first. But I
talked to one offensive coordinator prior to the draft now
from the jar Vigo, who said, that's my.

Speaker 8 (08:52):
Favorite guy in this draft.

Speaker 6 (08:54):
All the different ways you can use him inside and outside.
He's tough.

Speaker 5 (08:59):
Listen, he's got some speed to him as well.

Speaker 6 (09:02):
Jim Marbaugh and company, Gregorwman, they're gonna have a plan
for how they're gonna get lab mccauckey at the ball.

Speaker 5 (09:07):
And let's be honest, you.

Speaker 6 (09:08):
Look at the rest of the Chargers, Jeth Tas maybe
Quentin Johnson last years first round pick, maybe he breaks out.

Speaker 5 (09:12):
Under and who's staff here, but there figure.

Speaker 6 (09:14):
To be a lot of balls Hitded lab mccaukeey's way.
He's stepped up time and again. May not look the part,
but he is one of those players who when you
watch him play in the biggest moments, in the biggest games,
going for national championships, he steps.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
Up to the play.

Speaker 7 (09:27):
What I love about this draft, as we said for
months that this is a wide receiver deep draft. Kyle,
you go wide receiver, Tom, you go wide receiver. On
following suit, I'm going with Keon Coleman, who ends up
in Buffalo with Josh Allen.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
As his quarterback.

Speaker 7 (09:42):
You talk about day one impact being able to go
out there and make plays for him. You're going to
get a chance as that I do not believe is
Can Colman, but you're going to get a chance to
go out there and make plays because Stefan Diggs is
now Houston Texan and Blake korm who's joining the Rams,
is going to be a huge impact as well and
be able to run the ball and make plays for

(10:02):
them alongside of Kyron will Williams and Matthew Stafford as
his quarterback. As I'm freestyling talking about Blake Crome and
Keon Coleman, Yes, just keep the screen on me.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
I can make up for it. Keon Coleman unbelievable wide receiver.
What I love about him.

Speaker 7 (10:16):
He didn't run the fast forty, but he is a
guy that goes up and he makes contested catches and
he ran through the gaulllet at the combine, had the
fastest time going through that and also catching the DP ball.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
So you look at that for Josh Allen, a quarterback
that likes to.

Speaker 7 (10:29):
Take chances and give his wide receivers an opportunity. He
loses big play, Gabe Davis who goes to the Jaguars
and loses Stefan dis Now you have another guy in
Keyon Coleman that you can throw the ball.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Up to and he can make plays.

Speaker 7 (10:42):
Jane, just get ready because we're going to throw up
any prospect on the screen and gonna have to talk
about him in depth, So be prepared.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Whatever.

Speaker 9 (10:51):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Well, you guys all went wide receivers. I'm going with
the receiving threat. The Raiders went with a tight end.
They of course needed a right tackle. They need what
was the other thing they did, They needed a corner.
They go out and get brought Bowers, who has gotten
George Kittle coomps, which was a little shocking because they
had Michael Mayer last year.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
But parent with.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Devonte Adams and Jacobe Meyer, he may not have to
do it all, but I think what's important about having
him out there. His impact will be that he will
get fed and he'll also allow other people to eat.
So I really love seeing what they're doing with him.
There lots to see who's throwing to him, you know, Gardner,
minshew A O'Connell, there's Spencer Rattler that's still there. But
I did really like that one. I think he's going

(11:31):
to make an immediate impact with them for it the Raiders.
All right, let's real quick talk about the viral moments though.
What was one of your faves, Kyle? You had to
pick one, which one was it?

Speaker 5 (11:41):
Well?

Speaker 4 (11:42):
I was in the scrum with the Raiders fans when
they picked Bowers and they were so so so excited.

Speaker 5 (11:47):
You won't see a fan base that excited to draft
a tight end that high.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
I think the magic of the Draft is these people
have their faces painted and they got wigs and costumes
and jerseys. There is no game, Like, there's not a
game for like five months or something like that. All
it is is a reading of names, if you break
down to it. But it was like something so special,
and it's like I've always said this, Tom that in
a way, I feel like the Draft isn't a way
cooler than the super Bowl because Superl's got two teams.

(12:12):
All right, it's two teams, it's two fan bases. The
other thirty teams are all pissed off and they're just
watching in jealous.

Speaker 5 (12:17):
There's thirty two teams in this game.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
All thirty two fan bases are involved, and I got
to meet a lot of them.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
So I was going around, I'm.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
With this fan base when their pick is made, I'm
with this fan.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
Base, and they cheer.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
When the Giants were on the clock and a lot
of people thought they might take JJ McCarthy, I decided
to zag and go be with the Eagles fans for
the Giants pick.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
But I liked meeting those guys. That's where it was
for me. Tom. It's great being down there.

Speaker 8 (12:38):
What was was the moment you liked at the start
of the draft, where Rockerie Dell's introducer are, here's all
the legends of the game who are going to be
introducing their picks, and right behind Roger was a face
that we haven't seen in a while.

Speaker 5 (12:49):
One of the great characters in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (12:52):
Andre Risen, was focused on making sure that all his
followers got the best possible look the.

Speaker 5 (12:57):
Falcons straighted up. He wasn't quite ready.

Speaker 6 (13:00):
He was talking to the followers, answering their question, you
can't win them all on rise at one of my
favorite players in my found legend.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Go ahead, all right, Roger Goodell getting manhandled by J. C.

Speaker 6 (13:14):
Latham.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
I brought this up to you guys yesterday, but it
was still my favorite because it was early in the night.
I remember this was the seventh pick. Roger Goodell had
back surgery. Just oh gosh, just watching it, I felt,
and he had it three weeks prior to this. We
always loved the bear hugs, but it was a hands
off approach for all the draft picks. I don't know
if in his excitement Latham forgot or maybe he didn't

(13:37):
get the membo, but you guys know, I always am curious.
I gotta get answers. I did send an email to
the commissioner and I asked him, I said, are you okay?
And his response back was, quote, we've got to show up.
It's all good, but talk about playing hard. I don't
know about you guys, but it looked like as the
night went on, he just looked like he was in
more and more pain.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
Oh oh oh, row, you turn into scoopy doo like
right in the middle of it. It was definitely his
first time seeing the card. But Jane, I honestly hurt
for the commissioner to you ever like even just throw
your back out, never mind surgery. You don't even want
to like turn your head. You can turn like Batman,

(14:19):
you know, like with no neck. He got through it,
and I hope his eyes down and I hope he
has a cold one now.

Speaker 9 (14:24):
He's probably doing like what he did at COVID.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
Remember when he was in that sweet basement with that
really comfy recliner. That's where he spent the rest of
the drought. That's where he's likely on day three and
he deserves it.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
Good morning football, Welcome back to Coimrning Football. Welcome back
Froight Michigan and the people are out and about.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
The rain has stopped.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
I know you've been trying to set all these attendance
records all weekend.

Speaker 5 (15:00):
If you woke up this morning.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
And saw rain, you might say, oh, no, it's gonna
rain on their parade. No, it's kind of stopping, slowing down.
You got people showing up. There's an ABC seven newswoman
who set up shop right outside our set and.

Speaker 5 (15:10):
She's tweeting on us.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
We respect it, we love it, and we love Stacey
Dale's sitting down with two of the biggest stars in
the entire NFL draft. You know, nobody knows the Bears
inside and out better than Stacey, and sure enough, Caleb Williams,
Roma Doomsay right there in Chicago sat down with her.

Speaker 10 (15:28):
The Chicago Bears absolutely annihilated the first round of this
draft with these two men beside me, the ninth overall pick,
Roma Doonza, and of course the guy that went at
number one, Caleb Williams. What did y'all say to each
other when you're picked and you're thinking this, this is
like a bromance kind of thing that started before the draft, and.

Speaker 9 (15:48):
Then we saw it happen.

Speaker 11 (15:49):
Yeah, when I when I finally was able to you know,
see him after he was picked, I said, it was uh,
you know, tapped him up, gave him a hug and
said congrats, but also said, uh, you know, it's like
d Wade and Lebron when they were at the Heat,
you know exactly.

Speaker 12 (16:04):
You know, we're starting our own little you know duo
here together. So I'm excited for it, you know. There
it was just pure excitement. Honestly, we can barely you know,
contain our emotions. So but we're both excited to finally
work together and get to work.

Speaker 9 (16:16):
It feels like the draft journey is an eternity. Yeah,
it's it's long.

Speaker 11 (16:20):
It is a long process for for me at least.
You know, it was my season ended, not his, but
my season ended November eighteenth, and so a good five months.
And so you know, I'm happy, you know that I'm
that I'm here and that that that five months is over.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (16:35):
No, my season that ended in January, and it still feels,
you know, like it took forever. So you know, there's
a lot of different phases of it, a lot of
different things you have to go through. But for this
to be the outcome, you know it's worth it.

Speaker 10 (16:46):
Yeah, so many people out there break down your tape
in those five months and the lead up.

Speaker 9 (16:50):
But like I've talked to Lincoln Riley for you, Caleb,
and what would you describe your leadership style?

Speaker 10 (16:56):
What like, we know what you can do on the field,
but how are you as a servant leader?

Speaker 9 (17:01):
And what are these what are these teammates getting?

Speaker 5 (17:03):
Yeah, someone that cares.

Speaker 11 (17:05):
It's not just my teammates and this guy right here,
it's it's it's all of the people a part of this.
You know, this bears place, whether it's the fans, community,
you know, from the executives all the way up to
you know, the custodians. You know that I care about
all of them. And so that's the most important part.

Speaker 10 (17:23):
I don't think people understand how competitive you are. You
are we yeah, but when I watched you at just
it was my little glimpse into you roam at the
combine and you're still doing the three cone. Can Can
you describe this inner fire within you in terms of
that that competitiveness.

Speaker 12 (17:39):
Yeah, No, definitely. I Mean I grew up with brothers,
so that definitely creates a little bit. Grew up playing
football since I was six, So I've been in competitive,
competitive environment since, you know, ever since I was born,
I think so. I think it's just instilled in me,
especially from my parents, who are very you know, striving
and determined people.

Speaker 10 (17:55):
Have you had a pretty in perspective? You were milking
cows as a youngster on your grandpa's farm.

Speaker 12 (17:59):
That's right, milking cows to you know, playing for the Bears, I.

Speaker 5 (18:05):
Got a lot of nod.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
No, no, no, we didn't do.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
I grew up a little bit country.

Speaker 11 (18:11):
I was more of the riding derbikes and full with
his countryside, not the not a little bit of that,
A little bit of that, not the milk and cow.

Speaker 10 (18:18):
So I'm just as we wrap up here, gosh, there's
so much to look forward to.

Speaker 9 (18:22):
The Bears are competitive, man.

Speaker 5 (18:24):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 10 (18:24):
What kind of a product are we going to get
offensively on the field this year in twenty twenty four?

Speaker 11 (18:29):
Efficient, explosive and someone that you know, not someone but
but the eleven of us out there having fun doing it?

Speaker 9 (18:36):
Yeah? Fantastic?

Speaker 12 (18:37):
Well, no, one hundred percent agree with that. You know
all that we have to offer.

Speaker 10 (18:41):
You know, he's not he's not a fifty to fifty ball, right, he's.

Speaker 9 (18:44):
One five, one hundred zero. Man.

Speaker 11 (18:48):
I'm sorry. Sometimes sometimes I gotta throw it out of
bound too. I'm getting I gotta throw it over his head.

Speaker 9 (18:54):
All right, We appreciate y'all. Roma Dune Day, Caleb Williams. Awesome,
Thanks so much.

Speaker 5 (18:59):
Thank you, thank you, Stacey. It's so very exciting. I
don't care if you're a Bears fan and if you're
a Packers fan you hate the Bears. It's all new talents.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
It's all very very very fresh and new, and we're
gonna hopefully see it. If you're a Bears fan for
