Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL, in
partnership with iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Good Morning Football on a Thursday morning, live from rainy Madrid, Spain,
ahead of the NFL's first regular season game. Come Under's
Dolphins happening on Sunday morning, NFL Network. Until then, hang
with us here on GMFP. Jamie ard a Man SITEO,
Seth Prolins, Mike yourifollow, Kyle Brandt. That's the crew, Kyle.
It's like the traditional Spanish dispayea. You just let it

(00:32):
simmer over an open flame and all the seasonings and
flavors come together. That's what we do on GMFP. It's
just all of our personalities boiling up and over and
people just get to watch us for hours talk about
the game that we love.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
It's really well done, Jamies recording live from Spain. Jamie's
Cosmopolitan is always all over the globe giving us the
stories La New York, Hispana, and it all comes down
to football, because we've got a game tonight, said Mantai
Mike Jamie.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Let's rock en roll Buenos Das Football.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Welcome to Good Morning Football presented by Old Trapper. That's right, everybody,
GMFB Second Hour Lock in and no matter where we
are in LA and New York, in Madrid, Spain, we
all know that second hour on a Thursday is the
beginning of Throwdown Thursday. Three topics on hand, and we

(01:34):
begin with a Sunday matchup between the Lions and the Eagles,
two absolute powerhouses in the NFC. We'll go head to
head two great coaches that we always love hearing from
at the podium, Nick Sirianni and Dan Campbell. We hear
from Dan Campbell ahead of Lions Eagles Sunday.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
I just feel like he's gotten better every year. That's me.
I mean, so yeah, I guess to answer that question, yes,
I do. I think he's settled into his own to
where he he just continues to take it another notch
and you know, and just continues to get better process information.
The game slows down for him, you know, and he's

(02:16):
just he's playing at a high level.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
All right.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
So here's the scenario. The Lions have to go to
Philadelphia and the Seahawks have to go to La. Sam
Donald has to take on Matthew Stafford in the La
Rams and Sofi Stadium on Sunday. So here's the question.
Throw Down Thursday, manth I, I believe you have to
answer this one first, my friends, which would this Which
quarterback would a road win mean more?

Speaker 6 (02:41):
For?

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Is it Sam Donald in la or Jared Goff in Philadelphia?

Speaker 7 (02:46):
Jame?

Speaker 8 (02:46):
Right now, the Detroit Lions are sitting at six and three,
and the three losses that they've had have been some
really good defenses. So if I'm going to say there's
a quarterback whose road wind would mean the most, I
would have to say it to be Jared Goff because
there are abouts to go up into a stadium that
how does poly right now? Arguably the best defense in
the NFL with the Eagles and what they were able

(03:07):
to do with the Packers, who were the eighth best
scoring offense in the NFL, But you couldn't tell that
by the way that the Eagles shut them out earlier
this week. So if I'm going to go with a quarterback,
I'm gonna go with Jared Goff. I think he has
been playing a lot better. He's seen more poise. But
when you have the Eagles defense staring staring at you,

(03:28):
and you guys have guys like Quinnion Mitchell on your
best guys, it's going to be a test for them,
and it's going to be whoever comes out on top.
If it is Jared Goff, I think it's one of
those merit badges you can put on your sash when
you're a scout, like, yeah, I accomplished that. So that's
why I got Michy for the Lions.

Speaker 5 (03:44):
I mean, somebody got to stop the Eagles from collecting
these head to head tie breakers. They've beaten the Rams,
the Buccaneers, the Packers, now potentially the Lions like they're
gonna be if there's a head to head situation.

Speaker 9 (03:54):
Have all these going on.

Speaker 5 (03:55):
But as far as these quarterbacks are concerned, to me,
it's Sam Darnold because you go into we talked a.

Speaker 7 (04:00):
Little bit about this yesterday.

Speaker 5 (04:02):
The revenge factor from last year from the post season
number one, but number two if Sam Donald pulls us up.
And I understand the quarterback wins is not a stat crowd,
but you're gonna look at it at this point and say,
we are one Sam Donald fumble late in the game.
I believe it was a fumble that interception against the
Buccaneers from a nine game winning streak, right like the

(04:24):
one game that you lost in the cluster of all
this stuff was this close game that really could have
gone either way against Tampa Bay. That's like Eagles last
year type streak stuff where they had the one game
where they lost to the Commanders lately daland like all
of a sudden, you're looking at the Sealex Seahawks team
a whole lot differently, and you're looking at Sam Donald
a lot differently.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
So I don't think Jared Goff would get a ton
of meaning about this, as much football as he's played
and as many atmospheres as he's been in, and yet
I also don't think Sam Donald would get much. But
I'll just give it to Donald by default. I think
neither of these stand a game a lot.

Speaker 7 (04:58):
I'll tell you why.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
In terms of Donald, we have one question about Sam Donald.

Speaker 7 (05:01):
We all have it.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Let's just say the quiet part out loud. Can he
play a really clutch game with high stakes in a
very difficult atmosphere?

Speaker 7 (05:09):
All right?

Speaker 1 (05:09):
I think the stakes are reasonable here. It's still pretty early.
I don't think Sofi Stadium is a terrible atmosphere to
play in. We know what time it is, guys, there's
gonna be a lot of Seahawks fans at this game.
We know that the Sam Donald prove it moment is
a game where he is at Philadelphia, at Detroit, even
at San Francisco. I want him in a big time
hostile crowd where it's really loud, really intense, and I

(05:33):
want to see if his throws sail.

Speaker 7 (05:35):
Let's be honest with that, guys.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
At the end of last season, Sam Donald did not
look like the quarterback yet for most irregular season, and
I think it had maybe some part in him leaving Minnesota.
The answers he has to give are I am a
big game quarterback, Sam Donald.

Speaker 7 (05:48):
You know last week beat the Cardinals.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Before that, he beat the Commanders and the Texans and
the Jaguar. That's not big time varsity stuff. Eagles, Lions,
Niners when it matters. I'm excited to watch this game.
But the real answers are Donald. They are going to
come in January or late December.

Speaker 8 (06:04):
You know.

Speaker 10 (06:04):
I like the argument for Sam Darnold, I really do,
and I agree with all the things you said there, Kyle.
But but the Eagles are the defending Super Bowl champions
and Jared Goff has to go into Philadelphia to prove
that the Lions are the top team in the NFC

(06:27):
and not talking about their record. I'm talking about you
have to go in there and you have to show
dominance against the Philadelphia crowd, who is the most raucous crowd,
not necessarily volume wise, but they are nasty human beings
in Philadelphia and they will let you have it. He's
got to go in there and he's got to prove
Dan Campbell's got to prove why this offense is to

(06:49):
be feared, because you can perform all you want against
you know, the Cleveland Browns. Here, I'm Rossain Brown, Stud,
Gibbs Stud. Jared Goff's got to go in there. He's
got to play mistake free football. Can't turn the ball over,
can't turn into old Jay. Goff's gotta stay accurate as
he can be. He's got to go in there and
he has got to prove why the Lions are the

(07:11):
team to be in the NFC this season. That's a
tough question, Jamie. I'm not lying. That's a tough one
to get us started, Baby, that's a real's that's tricky.
I can go on that.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Well. That's what I try to do here. I try
to stump all y'all and throw it out Thursday. Second topic,
we stay kind of within the NFC. Gosh, those games
are great though, if you think about Seahawks, Rams and
Lions Eagles. Moving on though, include the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
in your NFC conversation. However, they will have to face
off against the Buffalo Bills Josh Allen led team in

(07:42):
Buffalo this weekend. So it's Baker and the Boys and
Josh Allen. Now in the off season. What we've seen
from these quarterbacks is one of Baker's boys is Josh Allen.
These two seem to be pretty good friends, and they
spoke about it this week ahead of their matchup.

Speaker 11 (07:55):
I have to walk you talking to him because he's
so damn tall, so I can't really have a face
to face conversation with him. But you know, in Buffalo,
it's cold, it's rainy. Even though he's six ten, his
hands are small, so he better wears gloves.

Speaker 12 (08:08):
Baker wears two gloves golfing. So he's that type of guy.
I love the guy. He's awesome playing some really, really
dang good football right now. I'm a big fan of his.
Anytime I get to watch games, I'm watching what he
does because he's a He's very fun.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
To watch.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Quarterbacks really hitting to where it hurts with the hand insults.
You know, it's getting nasty when we're talking about Oh,
Josh Allen, you have small hands. You're six to ten,
which is a compliment, but you have small hands. Guys,
who's a better watch right now playing the game of football?
Josh Allen says he's watching Baker. Who are you picking
better watch at the quarterback spot right now? Is it
Baker Mayfield Mansai or is it Josh Allen for you?

Speaker 8 (08:47):
Jamie, I'm going Baker Mayfield for me. I think he
has a better watch, whether he's behind a microphone or
behind the center. I think what he's been able to do,
the scrambles that he's been able to make, it doesn't
matter who is that receiver, because there are times where
his best receivers aren't out there yet on a fourth
and seven or a third and twelve, still finding ways
to win the game. And so when I'm if I
had to compare these two guys, I gotta go with Baker.

(09:10):
Listen to think about the quarterback position is this and
everybody on this show knows this. Those who play the
quarterback position sometimes feel the pressure to fit this golden
boy mode that's do right, be right, and act right thing.
Baker Mayfield doesn't do that. I mean, Baker Mayfield is wrong,
He's unapologetic, he's genuine, and I just love everything that

(09:30):
he stands for. So I might if I had to
choose one between these two, would have to be Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 7 (09:36):
I think about it this way.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
That was a playful joust between the two of them,
very very light. But there's respect there, there's admiration, there's
all that stuff. But which of the two would be
more likely if he wins this game on Sunday to
kind of turn toward the other sideline, let's say, if
it's a game winning touchdown pass and give a little
something to.

Speaker 7 (09:54):
The other guy.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
That's Baker Mayfield. That's why I gotta go Baker on
this one, because you got a little bit of always
walking that line, always on the edge, done with professionalism
and respect for the most part, but you know a
little bit of an unpredicted predictability.

Speaker 10 (10:09):
Factor on Baker's man. We are two for two when
it comes to very difficult choices. But I'm gonna go
with Josh Allen simply because I love how easy he
makes the game.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Book.

Speaker 10 (10:22):
You know, Baker, He's all over the place, right, He's chaotic,
and that's fun in its own way. But man, maybe
it's a guy, you know, being a Bears fan, always
wanting to have this in my quarterback. But I love
how easy Josh Allen makes the game. He simplifies it.
He steps back, he looks at ease in the pocket,
even when he's out of the pocket. Look at him here,
look at the little shovel passes man. And on top

(10:44):
of that, when he wants to put his nose down
and put that sixth in frame into a body, he
can do it and he will do it. He's not
Shilah running. He doesn't like the slide. He likes to
go in head first and he can knock doos down
and I love that about him. So again, tough call,
but I'm going with Josh Allen on this one. Kyle, Yeah, you.

Speaker 7 (11:04):
Can't wear two golf gloves.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
I don't know why, it's that's just the way it is.
This isn't baseball, guys. For someone wearing two golf gloves
is a weird faux pa. It's a strange thing. It's
a funny insult. I liked that they're insulting each other's hands. Guy,
they're not talking about hands, guys, I listen. This year
it's Baker. Last year it was Josh and a runaway,
and I think he kind of had the de facto
strap for most watchable player in the league. I don't

(11:28):
know if you guys have watched Josh Allen lately. It's
not that fun. They were down sixteen to nothing to
the dumb Dolphins last week. I say dumb Dolphins affectionately.
It's been a rough season. Josh Allen's own grandmother was like,
you need a smile more. He's not having a ton
of fun this year. Baker is, even though it hasn't
been as good lately. It's just that I feel like
right now he has the belt as most watchable player

(11:49):
because also being smaller than Josh Allen, it's a little
more crazy to watch than when he does the scrambles
and the crazy physical plays, whereas Josh Allen you can
tell because he's just massive. So I thought Josh had
a long run as a title holder for most watchable
player in the league. But with Lamar a little down
and Josh a little down, I think it is Baker
Mayfield right now, and I can't wait to watch this game.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Jamie.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
I feel personally challenged now because Teth Hollins has said
I've teed up two very challenging questions for throw Down Thursday.
Well here comes number three. My friend is Patriots Jets
Thursday night football action. We could talk New England and
New York history culture. No, we're talking tag team partners.
We're going with wrestling, Mick Foley from New York or

(12:33):
John Cena from New England. You have to pick your
tag team partner throw Down Thursday. Manti, I start with you.
Oh my gosh, were all right?

Speaker 8 (12:44):
So this is why I'm going to I can't wait
to hear Set answered. I can't wait to hear Set.
So I'll start this thing off. So I like Mankind.
The reason why I like mankind is mankind was around
the time that I watched of wrestling. Now, Mankind had
this thing called mister Soako. They he had read there
there's mister Socko. That was his finishing move where you
put that sock in his upon his mouth. It was

(13:05):
quite entertaining. Now as an adult, I'm like, that's just weird.
To me, But mister Socko Mankind. I didn't even know
his name was Mick Foley.

Speaker 7 (13:12):
I was so young.

Speaker 8 (13:13):
Washington his thing. I always knew him as Mankind, So
when this question came up, I was like, Oh, that's Mankind.
So I got to go with my man man, Mike,
you what you got.

Speaker 7 (13:21):
I'm going with mcfoley.

Speaker 11 (13:22):
Listen.

Speaker 5 (13:22):
The nineteen ninety eight Royal Rumble is a time capsule
and talking about Wake of the Montreal Screw Job, where
all of a sudden it was the bad. Vince McMahon
is the heel there and Stone Cold really coming as
the guy who would challenge authority and all that stuff.
Stone Cold and the Rock are the last two in there.
The Rock comes out early on and didn't have his
signature of music at that time, and it's kind of

(13:43):
like a mah okay here, and they refer to him
as Rocky Maya Villa at the time.

Speaker 7 (13:47):
So this was the beginning of all that.

Speaker 5 (13:49):
But it begins with cactus Jack mcfoley as Cactus Jack
and he gets thrown out by Terry Funk. Then he
comes back as Mankind, eliminates Funk, gets thrown out, and
then comes back again.

Speaker 7 (14:02):
As dude love. Can you hear Jr?

Speaker 5 (14:05):
Say missus Foley, baby Boy's going for a triple header.
It's a great, great, unbelievable performance by Mick Foley. As
an entertainer, I'd love to listen. You know, he'll do
anything if he's in your corner as your tag team partner.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
Right, long time, one of the all time row robo performances.
I still prefer Luke from the Bushwhackers coming in and
then coming out last.

Speaker 7 (14:24):
Get five seconds.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Seth, you're gonna hit clean up on this one, obviously,
But John Cena He's not the kind of reason why
I like wrestling.

Speaker 7 (14:34):
He is what he is.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
He's an all time great. Like I like the freaks,
I like the bad guys, I like the heels. I
remember the first time Seth landed on my radar. He
went into Cleveland and called it a piece of crap
town that's never gonna win anything. Lebron is a loser
and Johnny Football's Johnny idiot face, and I was like, Wow,
Rollins is amazing on the left, that's my kind of guy.

Speaker 7 (14:54):
On the right, I.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
Respect it, but that doesn't get my pay per view dollar.
Back in the day, gave me any of the iterations
of mc foley, Sina's great, very talented guy looks like
a million But that's my guy on the left. I'll
ride or die with him. But seth t you up,
you're bat and clean up wheelhouse.

Speaker 10 (15:09):
Go ahead, Oh, this is right in my wheelhouse. This
is right in my wheelhouse. I got a lot of
love for both of these gentlemen, and Mick Foley one
of the greatest of all time. Hall of Famer, Dude
love Cactus jack mankind. Doesn't matter who he is. He
could be Santa Claus. He makes Santa Claus videos that
he sends to my daughter every single year, handwritten like
calligraphy letters that he sends from the north pole to

(15:32):
my house. He's one of the greatest to ever do it.
I love as a human being. But John Cena is
on his retirement run right now. Recently just won the
Intercontinental Championship for the first time in his career this
past Monday on Raw beating Dirty Dominic Mysterio. He's a
Grand Slam champion. He's got two appearances left in his

(15:55):
ww WEE career Madison Square Garden coming up and then
Washington d C. For a Saturday, It's main event. In
his final match. John is a great friend. He is
one of the greatest to ever do it. You can
stack him against the Rock, Rick Flayer, Hulkogan, any of
the Mountain rushmoorries. John Cena is on them. He's a

(16:15):
great human being. He's been a mentor to me and
I would love to have John Cena on my side
and all my time in WWE. I don't think John
and I have teamed on television. We had a great
tag team match in India and a live event a
few years back which was one of the loudest crowds
I've ever heard in my life. I could not speak

(16:38):
MENTI was this close to me, I could not speak
hear the person speaking to me. When John Cena made
his entrance, it was magical. So John, cats off to you.
A great career, a better friend, better performer. You're the
best dude.

Speaker 7 (16:52):
I love you.

Speaker 10 (16:52):
I would love to have you as a partner any
day of the week.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
I like the warm, touchy feely is Seth Roberts. Just
when you think he's gonna scream about somebody.

Speaker 10 (17:01):
Socks and I love it.

Speaker 7 (17:03):
You really give us the heart.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
I absolutely love it. Unless we're talking about Aaron Rodgers.
All right, Ian Rappaport, get in here. Ian, I know
you have some news. Can you shout out just a
wrestler that you love, any era you want, just go
ahead do it in.

Speaker 13 (17:18):
I would say for me, I was always a big
mcfoley guy. I liked him when he was Cactus Jack
in the WCW. I used to watch a ton of that.
Sting was actually my favorite of the WCW guys. But
Cactus Jack ak mcfoley also great.

Speaker 7 (17:31):
Taking the bump.

Speaker 13 (17:32):
Off the top of the top of the cage in
the King of.

Speaker 7 (17:36):
The Ring, whatever that was with Undertaker amazing.

Speaker 13 (17:39):
And there's a match with Edge from WrestleMania a bunch
of years ago that I've seen like a million times
seen is fine.

Speaker 7 (17:47):
I sort of don't love what he's become.

Speaker 13 (17:50):
Not that I don't love wrestlers coming into our media world.

Speaker 7 (17:54):
That's a cool thing.

Speaker 13 (17:55):
I'm just saying for anyone in general who might be
listening to, don't beat me up, but yeah, I've always
been a mcfolly Cactus Jack guys.

Speaker 10 (18:05):
I want him to get anyway.

Speaker 13 (18:07):
You mentioned you mentioned the news that I have, So
let's get to some of the news. We'll start with
Lamar Jackson, who once again was not at practice for
the Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 7 (18:16):
This has become a familiar refrain.

Speaker 13 (18:17):
But this does not feel like some of the other
situations right This just is not I know in the
past it was our Lamar's okay, he's really fine, and
then he was not fine. This seems to be fine,
dealing with some knee soreness, according to John Harbus, but
I wouldn't be surprised if he was back at practice.
A Harvus says he does not believe will be a
big deal for the Ravens, and man, they are on
a little bit of a heater themselves, so we are

(18:40):
watching them as they could be potentially Kyle's favorite team come.

Speaker 10 (18:45):
Playoff time because they are just running and running.

Speaker 13 (18:48):
Meanwhile, for the Los Angeles Trams, one of the best
teams in the NFL.

Speaker 10 (18:50):
Have a huge showdown this week.

Speaker 13 (18:53):
It does seem like DeVante Adams is expected to play.
Sean McVay was talking to reporters, he says when he
asked Adams, Adams says he was fine.

Speaker 10 (19:01):
It's an oblique slash, side slash.

Speaker 7 (19:03):
Maybe back in this issue does.

Speaker 13 (19:05):
Not seem to be a significant one, so I would
expect him to be out on the field. And then,
speaking of familiar frames that we've had the entire season,
let's talk about Brock Party the San Francisco forty nine
ers still starting quarterback, even though he hasn't started for
more than a month.

Speaker 7 (19:19):
It feels like this is the week.

Speaker 10 (19:21):
Kyle Shannon said.

Speaker 13 (19:22):
The hope is to have him starting by Sunday. Do
you watch the clipse of practice from yesterday. Looked like
Brock was going at a much more intense rate than
he previously was.

Speaker 10 (19:32):
Ramping him up.

Speaker 13 (19:32):
If he's able to be a full participant either today
or tomorrow, I would expect Brock Purty finally for real.

Speaker 10 (19:39):
This time back in as they started for the Niners.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Back on GMFFE Dolphins Commanders on Sunday morning, nine thirty
am Eastern on NFL Network, Camp Wolf joining me once
again here on Good Morning Football Camp. We've kind of
covered the history between these two teams, super Bowl worthy history,
but that doesn't stop here at this game. In the
regular season, there is familiarity between the two head coaches
in this game. Where does that come from?

Speaker 14 (20:04):
Yeah, decade ago, Dan Quinn was the head coach in
Atlanta when Mike McDaniel was on his staff.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (20:09):
I asked him this week.

Speaker 14 (20:10):
He said, he's one of my favorite coaches of all time,
and he talked about his relationship with them. They have
a long standing relationship. Mc daniel credits him for a
lot of things. And I think it's interesting because both
teams are going through a bit of aversity, right, Yeah,
and you got to see how your coach leads you
out of it. I asked Quinn about his and he said,
I don't want to change my process because of the results.

Speaker 7 (20:29):
And he said a big thing I'm.

Speaker 14 (20:30):
Trying to tell our team is don't get discouraged by
the decimation that we're going through. They're injured, going through
a lot of injuries. No Jadon Daniels, no Terry McLaurin,
although he is out here and back on the practice field.
But this team is trying to figure out how to
get through after a year where they were a little
better than expected. Last year for the Dolphins, they've gone
through incredible change, but McDaniel got his team to fight

(20:52):
for them, got the biggest win of the season against
the Buffalo Bills, and they're hoping that it's snowballs.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
They fought and then they celebrated, and the Dolphins arrived
in a great mood here in Madriam. Now you mentioned
Jayden Daniel's name. He is dealing with something tu Atungua
Vailoa is unfortunately familiar with, which is injury ridden season.
This is a really tough go for a second year
quarterback who we loved watching last year in the NFL.
So stay of the nation perhaps on to his growth

(21:17):
and development this year and the hardships that the Dolphins
have gone through, and also the latest on Jayde Daniels.

Speaker 14 (21:22):
Yeah, Tua said, this is the biggest challenge that he's
had has been off the field leadership. We all remember
that moment after the Chargers game earlier this year he
calls out his team for being late to team meetings.

Speaker 10 (21:32):
He said, I had to learn how to lead better.

Speaker 7 (21:35):
I'm a better leader because of that moment.

Speaker 14 (21:37):
I appreciated the honesty, the forfrightenness, because he's going through
his own journey through that he's not playing as best ball.
He's leading the lady at interceptions, but through the process
he feels like he's getting a better conviction to play
quarterback and I think we're going to see a better
version of Tua. Jaylen Waddle and him have got a
really good connection. And you mentioned Jane Daniels on the
other side. He is not out here, he is injured.

(21:59):
But Marcus Mariota gets an opportunity to start this game,
and he talked to me this week about a guy
that he mentored in Tua getting to play against him,
and how the people at home in Hawaii at four
thirty am will be sitting home and watching Polynesian quarterbacks. Yeah,
in Madrid, in Madrid.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
That's a crazy life, the one that we live here
in the NFL. Dolphins Commanders, Campbell, thank you so much.
You'll see us on the pregame show on NFL Network
ahead of kickoff. Kyle, I bet the next topic you
have on deck has to do with a coach that
might know one of his former bosses pretty well.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
It's possible, Yes, it really is. It's a lot of
things are going on in this game. Jane Daniel's not
playing in that one, but two of his draft class
mates will be playing the headhead in Caleb and JJ
McCarthy and Ben Johnson. As Jamie just brought up, Remember
it was a long time ago that Ben Johnson and
Caleb lost to the Vikings on the Monday night opener
way back in Week one. It does really feel like that.
But yesterday we heard from both of them who said

(22:51):
a lot has changed with this Bears team since that loss.

Speaker 7 (22:54):
Have a listen, you know, we're zero and two in
the division.

Speaker 9 (22:57):
They're two and zero in the division right now, and
we're going up to their place, which is a very
hostile environment. It'll be allowed, and we've got to be
able to handle those elements. We found out a lot
about ourselves over the course of the season so far
we are we're a different team than than we were
Week one.

Speaker 7 (23:12):
And uh so it was Minnesota.

Speaker 6 (23:14):
I'm not said it prompts me to dollar more. It
just you just understand that you have to be as
close to perfect as you as you can be, and
so practice and and and you know, the small details
all matter protectal football. You know, the routes and the
depth and the spacing and you know my timing and

(23:35):
everything everything matters. And so just just trying to emphasize
that this week and trying to get our first victory
in the vision.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
All right, Rolin's get in here. But let's just let's
get into this right now. This is this is, this
is where you live. Yesterday last week on Sunday, the Bears.
The Bears were losing and they had to come back.
It was a very strange game, and Seth and I
were texting during it.

Speaker 7 (23:58):
We're like, the Bears aren't good. Wait, yes they are.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
The last text that I have from Seth Rollins says,
w t F is this Bears team. They're six and three.
We know that, Seth. What do you think of him
right now? Try to put it into words? And how
do you feel about them going into this divisional game
against Minnesota?

Speaker 10 (24:14):
I mean, last week was the gamut of emotions. Before
the game, I'm looking at my wife, my beautiful wife,
and I'm saying, you know what, I think. This is
the first week where I feel good about this team. Yeah,
I think we can win this game for sure. Oh
my goodness. Halfway through this game, I was about to
throw everything at my TV I could. Kyle and I

(24:35):
are texting about how awfu of the defense is. No
one can stop Jackson guard. Then he goes down. Russ
comes in looks like he hadn't played football in twenty years.
And all of a sudden, the Bears made a huge
comeback because Caleb's got ice in his veins, and the
Bears win again. And now I'm like, I don't know.
I don't know again what to think about this team.
I know the defense isn't great. They can make some plays,
but they're not great. And the offense, it starts, it stops,

(24:57):
it starts, it stops. They can't finish in the red zone.
I don't know what to make of the Chicago Bears.
But this week against men Minnesota is the biggest game
of the season for the Chicago Bears. They have got
to win this game because they've got to get a
win in the division and they've got to get back
They've got to get back that loss to Minnesota in
Week one. They got JJ McCarthy, who's playing pretty good

(25:19):
ball right now. I'm very curious to see what the
defense schemes up. They're on the road in Minnesota's going
to make it exponentially difficult. Are they going to be
able to defend Justin Jefferson? I don't know. Is Caleb
going to have another fourth quarter comeback in him? I
don't know's I just want to see the Bears win
a game start to finish. That's what I want to see.
I want to see them show me they're a complete team.

(25:41):
I want to see Caleb get the ball out on Tom.
I want to see the defense not give up third
and fifteen's. I want to see scores in the red zone.
I want to see the Chicago Bears show me that
they are a perennial playoff team, not just like a pretender.
I want them to be a contender. They go out,
they win this game, and they win it, hopefully in
some dominant type fashion. We can start talking about Chicago

(26:04):
Bears deeper into the season, which Cole, you know, we
don't ever talk about the Bears past November. So this
is we're already and uncharged territory. It's a beautiful thing,
beautiful money. Yeah, let's go. I'm already sided. We get
to play meeting for football in the month of November.
What crazy for a Bears fan.

Speaker 7 (26:22):
So where's your faith? Pro Come on now, I find it.

Speaker 10 (26:25):
If I have no faith, then the Bears do better.
So that's my game plan. I go in with zero
faith and then I let them impress me.

Speaker 7 (26:31):
That's how well.

Speaker 8 (26:31):
This is why I think you should have more faith
please me. In the Week one game against the Vikings,
they were winning the game and then they gave up
twenty one plays, of course, to lose a game.

Speaker 7 (26:41):
It's opposite. Now the past two weeks, it's been opposite
for the Bears.

Speaker 8 (26:44):
They've been coming back in the fourth quarter and then
they've been winning and sealing these games. Off What I
will say, one thing that I noticed about Ben Johnson
in this offense is a dedication to the run game,
and I think that's a phenomenal foundation to build for
your for for for your offense. Listen, commanders, they ran
for one forty five, Saints two, Bengals two eighty three,
and last week against the Giants one seventy one. You're

(27:07):
probably asking, well, Matt Ti, what does that do you?
Guys remember throwing that clip up there.

Speaker 7 (27:10):
You remember when.

Speaker 8 (27:11):
Kayleb Williams had that touchdown scramble on that play action.
You see how Brian Burns crashed down on that back.
But you see how Burns had to crash down and
you have to chase Cayleb Williams all the way over there.
That doesn't happen if there's no respect for the run game.
So when I see those types of things as a defender,
when I see Brian Burns have to honor a run
fake like that, if I'm Ben Johnson, I'm smiling on

(27:34):
a sideline because I know it's working.

Speaker 7 (27:37):
It's working.

Speaker 8 (27:38):
People are starting to respect the run game. And once
you respect the run game and a Ben Johnson led offense,
you've seen what he did in Detroit. You've seen what
he can come from, how he can counter that run game.
That's what I think you should have more faith in.

Speaker 7 (27:50):
Seth. I love it.

Speaker 10 (27:51):
Give me the faith, Give me more faith, Mike.

Speaker 5 (27:54):
Well, you can help me. I mean, I'm looking for
the faith from the Bears fan base. I've got three
guys around me that have all touched the Bears in
some form of Why is this fan base not sold
on Caleb or are they?

Speaker 7 (28:08):
Am I just missing it? Am I misreading it?

Speaker 5 (28:10):
I just I feel like there's still not vibed with
this guy.

Speaker 7 (28:13):
And that's part of the weird.

Speaker 5 (28:15):
Like you guys are talking about this team being weird,
Like Caleb's numbers, you look at them, they're kind of weird,
Like the completion percentage is going the wrong direction. Yet
I'm seeing more touchdowns and I'm seeing more wins, and like,
if you said to me nine weeks in they're going
to be six and three, I'd say, oh, man, Caleb
and Ben must be vibe, but everything must be pointing
in the right direction.

Speaker 7 (28:34):
And yet I've got these vibes from the fan base.

Speaker 5 (28:37):
That almost are stuck in week one with remember this throw.
They're like, now you've got the rematch against the Vikings.
Caleb's talking about being as close to perfect.

Speaker 7 (28:46):
As you can possibly be.

Speaker 5 (28:48):
That's why I think this game is huge for him, because, look,
the Bear's gonna win the Super Bowl. Probably not can't
rule it out, but probably not. So all I, as
a distant observer care about, really is what does this
year mean for Caleb because that's the direction of the
franchise and if he can now show that because the
scripted part of this game was amazing, after that, it

(29:09):
just fell off and that's sort of been the theme
this year.

Speaker 7 (29:11):
Show me some of that.

Speaker 5 (29:12):
Do what JJ McCarthy did in the fourth quarter, and
I think you're going to exercise.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Some deems complicated deep heavy relationship between Bears fans and
the quarterback position. It's hard to describe when you show
up as a new quarterback in Chicago, You're not just
a new quarterback. You're like a christ figure, like you
are a messiah. You are lisan Al Gayib. You have
to change the world or the Bears fans get nervous
that you're not going to be good. They've been through
it a million times. I mean Trabisky and fields the list.

(29:38):
That's just the recent ones. So there's so much stress
when it comes to Bear fans in Caleb and if
he makes one bad throw, it's like he sucks, he sucks,
We have to.

Speaker 12 (29:46):
Drop another one.

Speaker 7 (29:46):
He's done.

Speaker 1 (29:47):
Another guy doesn't, he sucks like it. They just they
panic so fast, so fast. Here's here's the nature of
the twenty twenty five Bears in a nutshell. We can
run any numbers we want right now, any statistics. Here
are the numbers that matter, and here's the conversations that's
being had.

Speaker 7 (30:02):
They are six and three.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
Of course, the numbers are sixteen thirty nine and one.
That is the total combined record of the teams that
they have beaten this year.

Speaker 7 (30:11):
Sixteen thirty nine and one.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
If there's a crappy team the NFL, the Bears have
probably beaten them, and that's not their faults. They beat
bad teams, that's fine.

Speaker 7 (30:20):
Here's what's going on.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
They've been playing single A baseball, just single A just
racking up wins. Now this game at the Vikings, this
is double a ball. We'll see how they handle the speed.
Then they go to Pittsburgh that's triple a ball. And
then the day after Thanksgiving in the Black Friday game
in Amazon, they get called up to the big leagues
and they go at Philadelphia and the world will be watching.

(30:44):
So it's a great record. It's a nice season they
put together. Are they fugazy? Are they going to get
hammered and sent back down so they single a ball
and just go on dusty busses around the country or
do they really have it in them? Because they have
not looked great against.

Speaker 7 (30:57):
The league's worst teams.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
But I also think they've looked very clutch. They are
more clutch than they are good. They are really good
in the fourth quarter. Caleb is excellent in the fourth quarter.
I don't like that they're getting rolled up by the
Jackson dart Slash Russell Wilson Giants. It's not encouraging. But
they do play really well at the end of the game.
So guys buckle up, hands and vehicle inside the Bears.

(31:20):
Hands and arms inside the Bears vehicle at all times,
because Steth you know this, Like they could lose the
next three games, they could win the next three games.
I mean that, like they have the firepower to beat
Philadelphia I think on a given day, but I don't know.
They also could lose by thirty. They're the most interesting
team in the NFL right now because the identity is
so shadowy, and we'll see how they do. It's double

(31:42):
a ball this weekend, and then they'll keep getting promoted.
This guy's dollars so chill and so cool and such
a great player. He is a former NFL defensive bag
Logan Ryan. He spent the entire commercial break talking with
Seth Rollins about a barber that they both know who
cuts hair in the WWE, in the NFL world. That's
just kind of the stuff he talks about. Logan, what's up, man.

Speaker 7 (32:01):
What's going on?

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Man?

Speaker 7 (32:02):
Yeah, my barber drew the bar through the barber.

Speaker 15 (32:05):
But Seth and the w W stars he cuts the
WWE guys now, so he I'm not I'm not, you know,
famous enough to get cut by him anymore.

Speaker 7 (32:12):
I guess.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
He cuts them and Seth cuts promos.

Speaker 7 (32:17):
It's just it's fine. That's how they do it. Logan,
you have.

Speaker 1 (32:19):
All kinds of things going on, and you had an
award we're going to talk about. But before we get
to it, dude, Patriots Bucks. You were at the game
on Sunday. Pats are on a seven game winning streak.
This is like the Logan Ryan Ball. What was your
biggest takeaway from watching them beat the Buccaneers.

Speaker 7 (32:35):
Drake May's legit. Drake May is absolutely legit.

Speaker 15 (32:37):
I took the Shadow Jim Nants and Tony Romo because
I'm a you know, an analyst and a broadcaster as well,
so I was there to watch the greats do their job.
But we sat down with them as humble as you
can get. Rabel loves them. I obviously know Rabel and
Todd really well, and a big part of Todd Bowles
is trying to get you know, rookie quarterbacks or second
year quarterbacks, young quarterbacks off their game. And Drake May,

(33:00):
you know, stood up well. He started slow, but he
he ended as well as you can and then and
played as well as you can against the Todd Bowles
led defense. So this guy's a legit MVP case. I
sat down with him. He's special.

Speaker 7 (33:12):
I think New England's got their guy for quite a
long time.

Speaker 8 (33:15):
Well look, and that's a lot coming from you because
you not only played against but you played with Tom Brady,
bringing in, you know, Drake Man to this equation. When
you look at both quarterbacks, what stands out about Drake
that kind of reminds you of somebody like a Tom
Brady Man Manton.

Speaker 7 (33:30):
That's so that's a huge comparison. This this early on.

Speaker 15 (33:33):
I'm not going to just throw that out there that quick,
but I would just say, and man, Tai, you know this,
it's it's your ability to have resilience and to stand
up against adversity. And like I said, he didn't play
well in the first quarter. And you know a lot
of young players football is easy for them a lot
of their life, and then the NFL might be the
first time they're hit with some real adversity on the field.

(33:53):
And his ability to process, his ability to kind of
rally and play his best ball down the stretch was impressive.
And also sit down with Josh McDaniels, you know, they
said that his his mental, has processing powers through the roof,
and I know Tom Brady was quite the processor the
line of scrimmage, checking them into the right place. So
Drake may has a lot of that command.

Speaker 7 (34:12):
Obviously.

Speaker 15 (34:13):
Josh McDaniels coordinated for Tom Brady, also coordinates and calls
plays for Drake may So he's really impressed with his
mental and his intelligence, and we don't always talk about
that about the guy. So he's really doing a lot
at the line of scrimmage, and he kind of doesn't
get off his game. He kind of stays resilient throughout.
So those are two most impressive things about him.

Speaker 7 (34:31):
Logan.

Speaker 5 (34:31):
After the Bucks lost, Baker Mayfield told the media that
losing that game should really really hurt for the guys,
and they face Josh Allen this week upcoming here, So
how do you, if you're Baker in the Bucks, channel
that disappointment that hurt into potentially a win this week.

Speaker 7 (34:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 15 (34:47):
Look, I think Baker is perfect for the city of Tampa.
They love him down here. His personality through and through.
He is the alpha leader of that team, and that
team has Levonte Davids and Vidaveas. They have great leadership,
and Baker takes command of that because he knows what
he can do now that he has. We talked to
Baker about the belief he has with this organization, so

(35:08):
he has the ability. I didn't get a stripsack there,
which is crazy. He has really strong hands, by the way.
I couldn't believe he didn't fumble that.

Speaker 7 (35:14):
By the way.

Speaker 15 (35:14):
It is a sack though, But let me get back
to my point. But I believe that Baker is the leader.
And the thing about Todd Bowles being in his meeting
rooms every single week, it's a new defense. So here
they're gonna have a completely new defensive plan from Josh
Allen that what they did last week, whether it worked
or didn't work last week, he's gonna have some new
stuff for Josh Allen. He's definitely great at coming after quarterbacks.

(35:36):
You know he'll do that. So the defense will be
locking loaded to go, and now they have their leader
on offense. I don't worry about the Bucks. The Bucks
are going to get in the playoffs. Then it's a
matter can you beat a Baker Mayfield and can you
beat a Todd Bowles's defense. So that's week to week there,
But I'm not worried about the Bucks. They got the
right guy at quarterback and that's Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 7 (35:55):
Logan.

Speaker 10 (35:55):
I want to go back to that game, the Bucks
and the Pats, And you're the perfect person to speak
about these teams because you played for both teams and
both head coaches. You got Mike Rabel on one side,
Todd Bowles on the other side. I want to know,
how do these coaches styles differ? How are they similar?
What do you think when you compare and look at
these two side by side.

Speaker 7 (36:16):
Man, that's a great that's a great question, Seth.

Speaker 15 (36:19):
You know, off the top of my head, I would
say that they're great guys to play for. They are
authentically themselves. They are not trying to be anybody else.
Mike Rabel's not trying to be Bill Belichick. Todd Bowles
is not trying to be anybody else. They are themselves.
They take ownership when things don't go wrong, and I
think that they're both guys that players love to play for.

(36:41):
I would say Mike uh kind of New England does
what they do, meaning the playbook kind of stays the same,
and he's going to demand excellence. He's going to make
it really simple, so you kind of know what you
got to do weekend and week out. You're gonna build
on that identity weekend and week out. Todd's going to
have his identity, but it's much more game plan in

(37:02):
a sense where he's going to change, like I said,
completely different defenses from week to week. Like the defense
itself can look completely different, an swan Winfield can play
a completely new position next week in that defense because
he's so flexible on how he goes about it.

Speaker 7 (37:16):
But they're great game managers.

Speaker 15 (37:18):
They're great with their timeouts and situational football, so they're
really similar. But I think the difference is how many
different wrinkles Todd puts in his defense, where Rabel kind
of builds that standard from week to week defensively.

Speaker 7 (37:28):
At least.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
Yeah, you're so good with all those nuances. It's an
awesome answer. You're also, dude, incredible in the community. Way
back in twenty seventeen, you and your wife Ashley founded
the Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation. Last month, you were honored
with the twenty twenty five ASPCA Public Service Award.

Speaker 7 (37:45):
We have a clip logan we're gonna listen to us.
Take a listen, and then we'll talk about it.

Speaker 15 (37:50):
Now, those all the people involunteer and actually work through
today other ones who learners, And it was never my
intention to start one of the largest run minority foundations in.

Speaker 7 (38:05):
The United States.

Speaker 15 (38:06):
I've obviously tackled the image of what the NFL has
dealt with, but I also think we should highlight people
like myself that constantly.

Speaker 7 (38:14):
Made the right decisions.

Speaker 15 (38:15):
We just wanted to see something and do something. And
that's why I encourage all you guys. If you see something,
do something, don't be.

Speaker 7 (38:22):
Afraid to be a leader. And that's how my story
came to life.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
Pretty cool, man, tell us more about why you and
ast you started this foundation, what the award means to
you guys.

Speaker 15 (38:33):
Well, two things there, Kyle. One, I broke the turtleneck
out kind of early. First one to bring out the
turtle next season, Okay, just gonna all all one color
monotone there. I don't know if I like her, and
I'm not sure that. Secondly, I hit the conra Gregord.

Speaker 7 (38:49):
I want to thank.

Speaker 15 (38:49):
Myself when I'm up there for what I did. But look, man,
I love animals. My wife worked in the animal shelter.
When I was trying to find my calls, I knew
in the NFL when I had a platform, I wanted
to make something better than bigger and better than me.

Speaker 7 (39:04):
It was going to be animals. And we've rescued three dogs.

Speaker 15 (39:07):
Personally, we promote adoption, We raise tons of money for
all animal shelters out there. And they decide to give
me the award, and actually they mailed me the ward.
I've been on the road, so it's pretty heavy. I
wasn't able to carry that on the plane. But they
can I open it now.

Speaker 7 (39:21):
I haven't opened it yet. Yeah, do it? Come on,
I'm boxing my address. Here we go. So we got
a lie all right, Yeah, that's opening of this award
here and like I said, we go. I've been busy.
Hopefully I get the tape. You know, we we can
get it before commercial break.

Speaker 1 (39:39):
So many popcornteanuts I bet in their watch their hair combs,
come on.

Speaker 4 (39:42):
Here we go.

Speaker 15 (39:43):
First of all, I think my wife left their clutch.
I thought that would give us a bag.

Speaker 7 (39:46):
Okay, there we go. So it's nice and wrapped up. Well,
let's up the wrapping.

Speaker 1 (39:54):
Also, logan casually has two Lombardies behind them.

Speaker 7 (39:57):
If you want to watch that. Yeah, this is going
up there. Man, listen, this is hard ear. Look at that.

Speaker 4 (40:03):
Yeah, a.

Speaker 7 (40:07):
Beautiful you go, beautiful.

Speaker 15 (40:09):
Here we go man live live on wrapping for you
guys on Good Morning Football. But look, man, I'm super honored,
and you know, I'm just a football player that tries
to do the most of my platform and all that stuff.
But I really, you know, donate to ward to all
the people that you know working animal shelters that volunteer
and really do this for a living. I don't make
the money that I make to do it, so really
the award is for all those people out there, all

(40:31):
my animal lovers out there, please adopt awesome.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
All right, you're the best man, nobody better.

Speaker 7 (40:36):
Congratulations.

Speaker 10 (40:37):

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant.
