Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Welcome to g MSB. My name is m j Acosta Ruiz,
and look who I have here with me in Los Angeles,
Isaiah Standback, five time Pro Bowl offensive tackle from the Saints,
Ann's A Dolphins Tron Armstead, and Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Champion linebacker for the Minnopia Eagles.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Dolans appreciate you'll having Good Morning Football.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
All right, all right, I feel like it's only appropriate
for us salute coffee when you got a champ in
the house.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Good morning everybody. You're right, I should sit hold on.
Speaker 5 (01:00):
To be rude.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
And now we're ready. The vocal cords are ready to go. Nolan.
We are so so.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Excited to have you at the breakfast table today, your
first offseason as a Super Bowl champion.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
I mean, give us what does it feel like?
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Man? I said, it feels amazing.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
You know, we just back to work, That's what I
feel like.
Speaker 6 (01:15):
You know, we got to hit the ground run and
we just finished OTAs. We did amazing OTAs, just building
the team chemistry, connecting again together on you know, we
bond over.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
Some points last year.
Speaker 6 (01:26):
But like coach said, we turn in the page, were
going on to the next thing, and we can't wait.
I can't wait to get back and see the guys
look at that.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
And you got to celebrate that you were telling us.
In just a few weeks when.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
The rings come through for Philly, we will get to that.
You said you were focused on the next thing. The
next thing right now for you and for all of
us is the lead block. Let's get into our guys,
because we have a lot to talk about. Cowboys, rookies
and veterans report to training camp in ox nerd California,
just up the road from US July twenty first. One
of the big storylines everyone is going to be following
(01:59):
is we'll start player Michael Parsons have a new deal
in place. It's slated to earn a little over twenty
four million dollars in base salary on the fifth and
final year of his rookie contract. So look, it's always
interesting because I love asking current and former players because
y'all don't like to talk about each other's money, and
I get that.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
It's a respect thing.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Isaiah, you work for Dallas, so I know you're going
to be following all of the developments for the team.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
That's the plug right here.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Okay, so while we're way to possible deal with Parsons,
why are you excited to see the Cowboys in twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
It's a new vibe, it's a new energy.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
And I know that's not something that's necessarily tangible for
a lot of people that are necessarily sitting at home,
but for somebody that's in the building, and you see
this cultural shift with the entire organization. It's not just
one side of the ball. Like when Dan Quinn came in, right,
he energized that insire and the entire portion of the
locker room. This is the entire team. Coach Scheinheimers literally
came in and it's fun again for these guys. For
(02:54):
anybody who's played ball in the league, you want to
feel like that kat that was in high scory in college,
running around, hitting, having fun, making plays. That's what is
is back in Dallas again. Are they're joking around, They're
being like family again. It feels like a brotherhood and
practice is fun, it's competitive. So I think a lot
of the pressure has been alleviated. It's not to say
that coach McCarthy's culture was bad it's just to say
(03:17):
that this is new, it's light, it's fun, and guys
are ready to go out there and play for each
other and go out there and be a human highlight
reels again.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Okay, I love about human highlight real and I think
the energy too.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
It's not just because you're you know, we're the star
as well in your other capacities. But I think that
there is this layer of excitement for sure around that tron.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
For you, you've been assigned the Giants. Who are you
excited for the Giants this season?
Speaker 7 (03:41):
That defense, that defensive line, specifically, those guys, they really
get out to the passer. Brian Burns, Sexy Dexi in
the middle. I said yesterday he is the best interior
defensive linement in the NFL.
Speaker 8 (03:54):
I feel that strongly about the young man. He's massive.
Speaker 7 (03:58):
I saw Sexy Dexy at Pro Bowl a couple of
years ago and I just looked at him like, don't
touch me, not hit me, please. But Von Thibodeau off
the off the edge, Abdul Carter coming in that that
defensive line is is scary. Those guys are fierce, they're relentless,
they add to von Holland, on the back end, pausing
the depot in the back end to really pressure the
(04:20):
pressure the receivers and get U D line a little
more time to get to the to the quarterback offensively.
It's a little bit of concern in New York. In
New York, I think Russell Wilson, he'll be efficient, try
to manage the game, get them some points. League neighbors,
I think he's next in line to be that next
LSU star l s U. Uh, you know, wire rec Fore,
I got to give them, guys that I'm excited about the.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
I told you I'm pulling for SEC always.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Development from you.
Speaker 5 (04:47):
Yeah, I'm cheering for the SEC always.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
All right, So let's get to you and the Eagles.
There's a heat wave right now in Philadelphia quite literally.
Oh you're just like melting in the streets. But Philly
is hot right now. You guys are riding that Super
Bowl high. So why are you excited for this year?
Speaker 5 (05:03):
Ahead?
Speaker 6 (05:03):
I'm excited this year, you know, just to go back
out there and be out there with my guys. Man,
you know the twenty two men that help us, you know,
accomplish the goal last year. We're just trying to pick
up where we left off far as the connection piece,
you know, talking to each other, you know, communicating on
and off the field, and ultimately, like you said, having fun,
you know, being that kid in high school again that
you just have fun.
Speaker 5 (05:24):
You go out there and play it, you be free.
Speaker 6 (05:25):
And you let loose and you really ultimately, you know,
as guys that played in the league, you plan for
your family, the name and the name on the back
of your jersey for yourself. So that's what we want
to pick off and leave off and just keep going,
you know, just keep going and keep having fun together.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
So how do you follow up the Super Bowl year?
Speaker 1 (05:41):
Like, what's been the culture, what's been the vibe in
the building and practices? Following up on the heels of
you guys waiting to get your rings?
Speaker 5 (05:47):
Yeah, no, we're not. I'm not waiting to get no ring.
Speaker 6 (05:50):
We on to the next page, you know, like coach said,
we got to flip the page in the book.
Speaker 5 (05:53):
That's last year.
Speaker 6 (05:54):
Everybody else has moved on to this year, so we
can't be stuck in last year.
Speaker 8 (05:58):
This guy's all business, said a lot of it.
Speaker 7 (06:00):
He was in a breakroom doing pass resh.
Speaker 6 (06:03):
Oh yeah, I was in it. We was in the
break room talking about it. You know, as a past rush,
you live and breathe it and I just, you know,
you think about the next play and talking to him
and I asked him, you know, what is something I
can help with my game? And I always try to
be a sponge, especially when you're around some good vets,
you always try to soak it up.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
Man.
Speaker 6 (06:20):
I've been around DG for that long time and it's
hard not to ask good vets questions and see what
you know, pick they brain.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
A forever student of the game, and I think that's
what always sets the top of the top.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
So that's what happens in there.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
When I'm getting my lashes done, I.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Make them from drills one on one.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
You know that's not fair.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
You guys don't have to spend an hour in the
makeup ure four in the morning.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
It's fine, Isaiah.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
The Commanders, yeah, man, So the Washington Commanders, I'm excited
about them. I think they're gonna be one of the
dangerous teams in the NFC East, just because of the
fact that we know the impact that dan Quinn had.
Speaker 8 (06:55):
Right.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Yeah, you can talk about Jadon Daniels all day long.
You talk about Deebo Samuel coming in and how everybody's
excited about that. But ultimately, the word I use in
regards to the cow changed was culture change.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
That's exactly what dan Quinn brought.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
And we saw how they went from literally the bottom
of the league to the top of the division one
of they obviously right alongside the Philadelphia Eagles. So these
guys were competitive. These guys are a playoff team. They're
going into the second year under d q's lineage. They're
also going under the second year with their number one quarterback,
Jayan Daniels, who just happens to be in the Cliff
Kingsbury offense. So you talk about rookie quarterback who had
(07:28):
a really good season going into his second year in
the same system with a supercreative offensive coordinator.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Along with the.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Fact that dan Quinn does what he does with his defense,
they've added pieces. Guys are more veteran, guys are more seasoned,
and they are going to be a problem because they
are going to continue to build upon what they've already started.
You don't see teams go up like this the first
year and even go down. They continue to stack the days,
they continue to get better and That's why Washington's going
to be dangerous.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
That was one of the things I loved about watching
the Commanders last year because they didn't have those expectations right.
Nobody expected for a rookie quarterback to go off the
way that he did, especially under a second year head coach.
Those are the things that make it magic, that give
it that X factor. So I'm really excited to see
what happens with this team. And they're playing internationally this
year against the Dolphins in Spain. It's going to be
really really exciting.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
But you know, Nolan, what happens.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Also, when you got the chip, you got a target
as well, so a lot every team in the league
is looking to challenge the Eagles. So Isaiah, what team
do you think that is in twenty twenty five?
Speaker 1 (08:28):
I have to say it as the Dallas Cowboys. And
the reason why not because I work for them. But
let's the Philadelphia Eagles are the most talented team in
the league period.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
They do an amazing job with their roster.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
The GM does an amazing job stacking that team is
somehow find in a way get all this talent underneath
the salary cap. I truly believe that what Dallas has done,
especially this offseason, right, But you started talking about some
of the best positional players in the league. Dallas is
usually in that conversation and one of the best quarterbacks
in the league. They have some of the best offensive
line in the league. They have some of the best
d lineman in league. Michael Parts's top three. You know,
Dax to highest faded player person in the league Ceedee
(09:06):
Lambs in the topic of the conversation. So you have
to talk about the talent that these guys have. Now,
the production in the playoffs is always the thing that
everybody really goes to, but you can't dispute the fact
that these.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Guys have talent.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
They added a ton of talent some of the guys
that are their most talented on the team. Terms of
De Marbion Overshown, you know, the Trayvon Diggs. These guys
are all getting healthy. But once that team is assembled
and healthy and on the field, you have to be
concerned at every level, on every each.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Side of the ball.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
You need to go to the special teams that third
of the game. They have the most explosive return man
in the game and came aren't they Turpin? So these
guys are dangerous just from the talent standpoint. So I say,
if there's anybody to challenge the egos, it has.
Speaker 5 (09:44):
To be Doubs. Yeah, I'm just I'll say.
Speaker 6 (09:48):
I know you talked a lot about the talent standpoint,
but you know, as playing in the game, it's an
ultimate team game. All eleven people got to work together
and one hand always got to watch the other.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
So talent is good, but.
Speaker 6 (10:00):
Man, being at my organization that I am now, man
connection piece is amazing. Like without Lane and you know Malata,
I wouldn't be the rester I am today.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
And I said that on several podcasts.
Speaker 6 (10:10):
So I feel like, you know that connection piece is
also part of the talent, but you also.
Speaker 5 (10:15):
Got to feed off one another. Man, the talent. Talent
can only take you so far in life. For real.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
That chemistry, to your point, can't really be taught. It's
either there and you guys gel and it clicks or
it doesn't. And that's a really hard thing to replicate.
All right, Before we get to who you think could
possibly challenge you, guys, what's the team do you think
can challenge these.
Speaker 8 (10:34):
Yes, I'm not even gonna.
Speaker 7 (10:37):
Addressing cowboys are They're very talented. Yeah for sure, But no,
I'm not gonna go too hard on them. I live
in Dallas.
Speaker 8 (10:45):
I don't want to nobody store.
Speaker 7 (10:48):
So No, my team, my team I think would break
out in the NFC. Detroit Lions. Oh, they were number one.
See all year, had a phenomenal season, phenomenal regular season,
ran into a really hot Commander team, and we'll send
home unexpectedly. Like you said that, that target now will
be on the Commanders and Detroit just being at the
(11:08):
top all year, they had that target. So the people
were gunning for him, the Packers, the bikers, they were
gunning for him all season. I think they get over
that hump this year. I'm a huge fan of Dan Campbell,
out with him in New Orleans for four or five years.
Amazing coach is the culture that he brings, the mindset,
the mentality. They have all the pieces healthy, Aiden Hutchison,
who leaves the league in sacks, and they go to
(11:31):
the Super Bowl this year.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Do they overcome the fact that they lost their offensive
coordinator and defensive coordinator.
Speaker 8 (11:37):
I believe so. I believe so.
Speaker 7 (11:39):
The formulas there, the foundation is there, which is why
teams want to poach teams want to want to get
that formula, get that recipe. I think they have everything
that they need.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
All right, the time has come.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Who is it.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Your Philadelphia super Bowl Championship?
Speaker 5 (11:57):
Man?
Speaker 6 (11:57):
I just feel like, especially my squad, as long as
we play together, you know, and we all on the
p's and q's, and it's the best team that show
up on Sunday and that plays together the boss. And
I'll say the team that I'm really thinking of. I
hate to say it, but you know, Washington, Washington gave
us a run for our money last year. And they're
a good team, you know, and Jay and Daniels at
(12:19):
to him. He's a good quarterback. He's a young kid,
you know, LSU guy SEC guys. So you know he's
used to you know, maintaining and running things at to him,
and I think they're they're a good team.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
We see him twice, we see him twice a year, so.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
It is a good challenge. Good to see him.
Speaker 7 (12:34):
So, man, Laron Tuse over there, Larrying Tu's battle right there.
Speaker 6 (12:37):
A battle you know, a lot of the offense. They
got a good offensive line, and you know, the game won.
Speaker 5 (12:42):
In the trenches.
Speaker 6 (12:42):
That's what we was back there talking about it earlier.
You know, he got me excited talking about past rush
moves when he started talking about running the trenches. But yeah,
they have a great they have a great squad. Great guys,
that's what. That's who I say personally.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Just me, Hey, what is it like going up against
a quarterback like Jayden daniels Man.
Speaker 5 (12:59):
I'll say he's a good quarterback.
Speaker 6 (13:02):
He has vision down the field, he can hurt you
with his legs, he can hurt you with his arm.
So he's one of those quarterbacks that you got to
be on.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
Your p's and q's around.
Speaker 6 (13:10):
So I'll just be ill, just be very mindful for
myself to let him know like he's not your everyday quarterback.
So he can throw it, but he also can run
out of the pocket, stramble a little bit, and you
got to chase him down.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
So to that point, because I want the people at
home to understand what the challenge is for you a
pass rusher, somebody who's the main job is to put
that QB down on the ground. When you have a
quarterback who has the vision, who has the awareness that
understands what you're doing defensively and can utilize his legs.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
How does that impact you as a pass rusher?
Speaker 6 (13:37):
It impacts me as a pass rusher, just because I
got to be mindful that this gap here, this gap there,
he can escape here, he can escape high, he can
escape low. And then even if he can escape, where
is he escaping to Is he escaping the run? Is
he escaping the pass? Which side does he like to
escape and roll out to run? So you know, it's
so much that goes in. And then also the other
three guys on the line, we're doing it together.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
We always call group rush. We rush as a group.
Speaker 6 (14:02):
I may not feel him on my left or feeling
on my right, but I know he will and I
know if he step up here, then my guy gonna
get him.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
So it's just all in.
Speaker 6 (14:09):
Like you said, trust, trust, and it's an ultimate team
game at the end of the day, especially getting a
good quarterback on the ground like him, you know, Pat
mahomes Lamar Jackson. Those guys that can not only hurt
you what they're on, but hurt you with their feet
as well.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Those are the type of qbs I would imagine You're like,
all right, circle this one, let's go.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
You know. Yeah, that added challenge for them when you
grow out there.
Speaker 6 (14:29):
Yes, ma'am, I'll say, we circle those type of quarterbacks
and it's in our head all day. All right, we
got to be mindful of this. We haven't seen this yet.
We haven't seen that yet. And I'll testify, you know,
Jalen hurts. We see it at camp every day, and
he hurt us. Not only when he start hurting us
with our legs.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
Now we got to focus.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
Now he just sitting back, chilling and hurt us with
our owns. So during camp we see that a lot,
and he helps us get ready for the year.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
For all the big time quarterbacks too.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
When you have the prototype on your own roster. Yea, yeah,
go wrong, fantastic. I love that the mindset.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
I love hearing you talk about the game because there's
this light in your eyes about it.
Speaker 7 (15:05):
No for sure, right, yeah, five in the morning, he's
doing cross.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
It's five in the morning now, So it was four
in the morning.
Speaker 5 (15:14):
We saw at long Arm cross shop was back.
Speaker 6 (15:20):
They just talking a little football. We're a little football shop.
And that's how that's how it's supposed to be, especially
when you round real guys.
Speaker 8 (15:27):
He's hungry.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
I see, all right, Well, more of that to come.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
It's Tuesday if you were scoring at home in the
off season. But the NFL really has no off season,
as evidenced by the fact that we're still in the air.
Come on, so we checked the analytics and we're going
for two.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Got to get into it, and we're starting with the Niners,
who wasted no time bringing back Robert Sala as their
DC after the Jets let him go. So during his
first cent as their defensive coordinator, Sala helped lead them
to a Super Bowl appearance and developed several All Pro players.
George Kittle talked about Sala's return on The Rich Eisen Show,
and he put the NFL one.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
He knows what he's talking about.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
He's inspiring, he gets the boys fired up, and he
just happens.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
To also be He's really really smart. All gas, no breaks, right,
That's what he does.
Speaker 8 (16:16):
You know that is violence is coming.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
I was the beat reporter here for the NFL Network
with the Niners when that whole era with Robert Sala
as the DC started in Santa Clara, so I know
they are on the edge of their seat ready to
go back to work with him. But the forty nine
ers defense is looking to have that resurgence with him
back at the helm.
Speaker 4 (16:39):
Will it happen with sala there, Isaiah?
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I think that Robert Sola will re establish the culture
and the identity that the forty nine ers have always
had as far as being tough, tenacious, physical.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
But the reality is they lost some key players.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
They lost on Dre Greenlaw, they lost on charidebas Ward,
they lost Hufanga. I mean, these guys lost a lot
of casts that were key contributors to that defense that
he's used to having. And so as much as you
can be a great coach, as much as you can
have the culture and have the fire and get everybody
on that cord until to your point, right, the talent
(17:16):
aspects one thing, but you got to be able to
get those guys to play together.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
And when you lose not only the talent, but you lose.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
The chemistry and the symmetry that you had at one
point in time.
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Now you have to re establish that and I think.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
That they will eventually get there, but I think it
might take them some time because they had to take
a hit to pay the QB.
Speaker 8 (17:32):
I do I agree.
Speaker 7 (17:33):
I agree, Isaiah, they lost some key pieces, not to
mention Javon Hargraves upfront two. One addition I made that
I think will be a sleeper and will have a
huge season is Bryce Huve. He's reconnected with Roberts Hall
or Robert Sala had him in New York with the
Jets before he was traded to Philly. I think he
will research hisself as one of the elite pass.
Speaker 8 (17:51):
Rushers in the game.
Speaker 7 (17:53):
My personal experience with the guy, he wasn't a huge
name when I first started playing against him Miami and Jets.
He can rush, he can rush. He is one of
the most relentless fears. He's fast, explosive, he has great
power as well. I think having Robert solid that that
energy that he brings, that violence, that violent mindset that
he brings. Bryce Health will be a sleeper. He'll be
(18:15):
a breakout player this year. I'll say for.
Speaker 6 (18:18):
Me, just watching I got a bunch of guys on
that team and a bunch of guys that I played
with Bryce Health and stuff like that. I think they'll
rebuild and once they get the chemistry going together and
you start rolling, it's a lot easier to jail on
defense than it is on offense because we're not We
don't ask for a ball. We ask for everybody just
to run to the ball and we all be together
(18:38):
and I think they'll have a good time, you know,
getting the things back coordinated and.
Speaker 5 (18:42):
Stuff like that. But it's all work.
Speaker 6 (18:44):
It's all work as a connection piece, and you got
to keep working on that every day. And I think
as a coach, you know, you can just bring that
energy and juice and have the belief in your guys
that they are we're going to reciprocate that on and
off the field.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
What should we know about Bryce Hubs and set on
him so well and what he's going to bring to
this defense.
Speaker 6 (19:02):
Man, I'll say Bryce Health is going to bring energy, effort,
and he's going to run to the ball, and he
going to go out there and try to make plays.
Speaker 5 (19:09):
I know him for a fact, and he's a good player.
Speaker 6 (19:12):
And you know, sometimes you just need a little restart
and you know, we can't help that.
Speaker 5 (19:16):
That's the NFL.
Speaker 6 (19:17):
So but I hope my guy go out there and
ball like I know he can, and keep his head
down and grind and work, because that's what he did
in Philly and that's what he gonna do out here
in forty nine Ers.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah. I think with Robert Sala as well, and was
what I was able to see firsthand is his ability
to develop these players and to instill this level of confidence.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
I met.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Fred Warner to this day credits Robert Sala with a
ton of credit for how he was able to develop
him and he gave him the green dot his rookie year,
and how he had gave him that confidence to say,
I see your talent. Everybody does go out there and perform,
and I think he gives them a level of autonomy
while still being able to guide them, and that is
like that extra layer. It's crazy that people talk about
(19:56):
the violence with Sala, and I get it because that's
his coaching style. But when you talk to him off,
he's like the most chill, like even Keel dude, except
when he's running the stairs up and down every stadium.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
Y'all know what I'm talking He does it every game.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
It's wild.
Speaker 4 (20:10):
Where like, coach, are you okay? It's fine? All right?
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Meanwhile, the forty nine Ers offense will be without Deebo Samuel,
who they traded to the Commanders. Jaden Daniels is amped
for his new receivers, saying this at Fanatics back he
says that quote, I'm excited to throw him a little
screen and hopefully, hopefully on the stat sheet it says
a touchdown for eighty yards and I didn't have to
do any of the work. Daniels said that with a
(20:34):
grin during an appearance at a Fanatics that's.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
Over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Look, Devo has been a workhorse. We know that, and
he has the skills to back it up. But will
Debo channel that forty nine ers productivity with the Commanders now?
Speaker 4 (20:46):
Isaiah?
Speaker 3 (20:46):
I believe so. I believe so.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
And I know a lot of people are still making
jokes because they saw the video of him. You know,
he's looking a little little thick going into training camp.
But people need to understand the style of player that
he is. Deebo Samuel has never been the downfield guy.
Deebo Samuel's always been the receiver that can catch the
ball underneath coverage, gets him yeatgar matage and run through
anybody who tries to tries to tackle him. That's his
style of play and that's exactly what he's coming in
(21:10):
to do. He's coming in to be that possession guy
where Scary Terry is taking the top off the defense.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Right, running off these corners, running off.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
These safeties, They're gonna leave Deebo Samuel underneath with the
underneath coverage, right, So whether that's a nickelback that's trying
to get their hands on him, or whether that's a
linebacker that's trying to pay attention to both the running
back and Deebo crossing underneath.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
This is what you have to be concerned about.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
And Deebo Samuel, his numbers as of the last few years,
have always been affected by the person that he's playing with.
Going back to twenty twenty one, he was a number
one guy and then gorm After that it became Brandon Ayu.
Brandon Ayuk was a number one guy. They didn't win
a kittle kittle right, so he was not getting the
ball distributed to him as much.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
But now he.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
Goes to an offense that has a solid running back
with Brian Robinson Junior in the backfield. He goes out
there with Scary Terry, who's gonna be pushing the ball,
that's gonna be pushing it deep, and he literally gets
the whole middle of the field. So when you hear
Jake Daniels talking about how he's excited about getting him
a nice, little, high accuracy five yard pass and letting
him do his thing with the yack yardage. That's exactly
what he's referring to guy as exactly why they brought
in Deebo Samuel.
Speaker 7 (22:06):
I think this is a perfect match, I really do.
I think this is a perfect match with Cliffs Kingsbury. Yes,
not even just the pieces that he has, but hit
with Cliff Kingsbury, his ability to create space throughout his offense,
with his scheme, the matchup to he'll be able to
create with the other guys you have outside Terry mclaughin.
Like you Saidjay Daniels in the second year, this is
(22:27):
a it's a perfect match debo is explosive. He's a playmaker,
the ultimate player. Playmaker you get as an offensive linement.
I see a quick screen, go for eighty. That's all
the confidence in the world. We feel great about anything
that we run now because the defense has to respect that.
The lineman can't rush the passer as much because you
have to retrace and get to the screen. So now
that that part is in the back of your head,
(22:49):
the rest of the game because you've got to retrace
to get back to debo, so that all all those
added elements and components of the of the offense.
Speaker 8 (22:56):
It's this is going to be explosive.
Speaker 6 (22:58):
I'll say that just like you said retrace. You know
that be in the back of your head. But you
know Deebo is one of those playmakers that if he
do catch a stream, I'm thinking in my head immediately
we got a run out of stack.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
We gotta go getting We gotta get him down.
Speaker 6 (23:11):
Because he will hurt you for eighty He will go
and be a big.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
Explosive play just off the stream.
Speaker 6 (23:17):
I just I don't know what y'all talk about the
debo that y'all seen, but the debo that I've seen,
and I know.
Speaker 5 (23:22):
He's an explosive play maker.
Speaker 6 (23:23):
You get the ball in his hands, he will hurt
you and you can't take him lightly.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
So I know a lot of people on the NFL.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
Networks and stuff at home, I don't take him lightly.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
He is an explosive playmaker.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
That's you with you now.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Speak to that because people hear us talking about his
jackyards right yards after cat right. You don't have to
get the ball to him down the field. We're talking
about Jay and Daniels, who's been proven to be one
of the most accurate quarterbacks in the league, even though
he's only played one year, and now he's talking about
getting the ball to him ten fifteen yard throws to
get the ball into the hands of Debo Saniel. As
a defensive player, when you have that ability on offense
(23:58):
and just something you got to be concerned about.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
What are you thinking about?
Speaker 5 (24:01):
Right?
Speaker 3 (24:01):
What are you literally thinking about when he gets the ball?
Speaker 6 (24:03):
Yeah, I think the first thing I think is we
got to get all eleven hats to the ball. That's
when we talk about, you know, everybody running to the ball,
getting down and you know, now we got to take
shots on the ball.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
Try to frustrate him.
Speaker 6 (24:14):
How can we frustrating throw him off his game a
little bit, Probably try to get a fumble or something
out of his hand. But when you have explosive playmakers
making those big time plays, you got to try to
minimize the mistakes. You can't let him go free. You
can't cut him wide open. You can't have Debo sitting
in the corner waving with his hand up by himself.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
You know, we can't have that. And one hundred percent.
You know.
Speaker 6 (24:34):
I tell him the marriage of the defense is the
back end and the front end working together.
Speaker 5 (24:39):
So we all tied into each other.
Speaker 6 (24:41):
So long as they hold up for three seconds and
long as I do my job, Hey, we could be
scary all the time.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
The reason his yak is so high is because he
is physical. He can also run through dudes. He can
take a hit and a few and knock people out.
So I don't know if he hit got a little
bit more wait at him. That's not a negative to me.
I'd be very concerned about having to hold this man down.
Speaker 5 (25:01):
Yes, he's mounted. I say he's hard to tackle.
Speaker 6 (25:03):
He's a hundred saying hard to tackle him because he
is a bigger body at wide receiver, A lot of
guy as soon as you go hitting and first tackling,
you'd be like, WHOA, is this a running back that
I'm tackling.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
This is a slot receiver.
Speaker 6 (25:14):
So he's one of those guys that when you come
and tackle him, you got to bring a little extra
all right, as coach vic say, we got to put
a little extra step into it.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Shut out Coach Vick.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
You have the visual here where folks were saying that
Debo was looking a little slow.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
It's also June guys. I mean, as that's what I
bring down, bring him that's allowed to bring down. Understand
the people that are trying to bring him down, right, Devo.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
I don't know how much he ways, but.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
He's going to be heavier than most of the defensive
backs I would imagine that are trying to defend him.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
Right.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
So when you talk about him running these shallows right,
for instance, you you're playing, then you're trying to get
a rush, right, but you're trying to worry about b
Robinson Junior in the backfield, right, and all of a
sudden they run de Bo right behind him. You got
an outside linebacker that's trying to be concerned about him
crossing his face right. And then once Deebo catches it,
if he knocks the hand down at the out side linebacker,
the next man that can stop him is one hundred
and eighty five pound corner.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
It's going to be challenging, right, So I understanding, That's
what I say.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
When you see this video of Debo, understand what his
purpose is. His job is to run through people, and
it's smaller guys than there's gonna be covering him.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
Yeah, no question, I think for him.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Also, he's always been his legs are just real strong
right like he is almost he's not a running back,
and he will say that, remember the whole contract thing
a few years ago. But his comp to me is
almost sequent to be honest, like body.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
Tightening, calm down, knowing you know I'm not dripping.
Speaker 6 (26:37):
But you're talking about one of the great.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Apples to apple body. It's an overall about to over
the same.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
All right, now we were cool, I'm saying, yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
But now you're talking about my dog man.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
It will always be squads.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
Okay, long as we long as we got that clear,
As long as we've got that clear, long as Saquan
is you know, the pinnacle, the top.
Speaker 4 (27:04):
Welcome back to JMSB.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
They say the draft starts in Mobile, and over one
hundred Senior Bowl players heard their names called that this
year's draft, including the twenty fifth overall pick Giants quarterback
Jackson Darts and for more on which prospects to keep
an eye on this fall, let's bring in Senior Bowls
new executive director Drew Fabiani Tlloder.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
Good morning.
Speaker 4 (27:29):
Morning, So happy to see you. I know you guys,
were going down memory lane.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
But before we get into all of that, there are
some breaking news because the Senior Bowl has a new sponsor.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
Can you give us the details.
Speaker 9 (27:40):
Well, Bandi America is our new title sponsor. You know
what I like about you know this title sponsor is
it just very sports related and you know they're a
global leader within sports memorabilia. I also think that you know,
they're going to bring you know, un president and visibility
to the players that are involved in this game and
(28:01):
to our game. I think it's a great partnership, you know,
looking forward to working with these guys for a lot
of years. I think they're going to bring a new
energy and I think we're going to be a great
partner to them, and I think they're going to be
a great partner to us.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
All Right, that's great to hear, congratulations on that, But
we want to ask you some questions in regards to
some of the QB's. All Right, in the past, we've
seen Jalen Milrow, Jackson Dart. They both helped their draft
stock at the Senior Ball. But with college football right
around the corner, you gotta let us know Drew which
quarterback should be keep an eye on.
Speaker 9 (28:30):
Well, I haven't watched all of them yet, Isaiah. I
just got here about two and a half months ago.
There's a lot going on down here that you know.
This piece today is one of the big parts of it.
Speaker 8 (28:40):
You know.
Speaker 9 (28:41):
I got to tell you I've got a little bit
of a bias on one of them because I've known
him since he was probably about fourteen years old. Garrett
nus Meyer, you know, he and his dad, you know,
we're down in Dallas with me. You know, love to
see Garrett here, love him to death. And you know
Kate club Nick I mean, Luke Aldemyer, Drew Aller, I mean,
(29:03):
and that I kind of just been I just peaked
that just last week. Is Fernando Mendoza. I'm heading to
the Manning camp this coming Saturday, and I'll have a
little bit more of a background because they got forty
eight quarterbacks there. Not all of them are draft eligible,
but I'll have a little bit more information. But you
got to remember, now, I've only been here a short
time and I've had a little bit of time for tape,
(29:25):
but not as much as i'd like understood.
Speaker 8 (29:28):
Drew, what's up, baby, who's going on? Man?
Speaker 7 (29:32):
I was I was honored, truly honored to be inducted
into the Senior Bawl Hall of Fame just a couple
months ago. I really really appreciate you guys had such
a great experience down there too. You got me on
a golf course for the first time in my life.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
And I did.
Speaker 7 (29:45):
I did pretty well. Shout out to the Hall of
Fame class, you know, Atkins, Richard Sherman, coach John Gruden,
Alex Matt it was.
Speaker 8 (29:52):
It was incredible, incredible.
Speaker 7 (29:54):
What goes into the criteria how you guys decide who
gets inducted into the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame.
Speaker 9 (30:02):
First you have to play in the Sea Bowl, you know,
and you know again it's it's more of a tie
in of you know, a productive NFL career, you know,
actually shown that you've actually increased your value by coming
to the Senior Bowl, which and I mean, I'm gonna
further this back at you. You said, and everybody that
(30:23):
was inducted said how important it was to play in
the game and what they thought it did for their
draft stock and their careers.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
Is that not the case?
Speaker 8 (30:33):
Absolutely? Absolutely me.
Speaker 7 (30:34):
Coming from Arkansas, Palm Blove, the Singing Bowl was massive
for my pre draft process.
Speaker 9 (30:41):
Yeah, I think it's really really important. And like I said,
it's funny that every single participant said that about playing
in the game.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
Yes, right, Well the morning, how you doing.
Speaker 6 (30:51):
I just got a quick question for you. You know,
the Senior Bowl has held us a scouting school recently,
and I just want you to tell us a little
more about that. How do y'all go across finding y'all
talent across the world and the get guys come down
to the Senior Bowl.
Speaker 9 (31:06):
Well, the NFL has has brought this, you know, to us,
and we've you know, run with it, I think for
four years now. And you know the criteria is you
have to be an ex NFL player and you have
to have some interest in being in you know, the
NFL personnel department or as you know, the NFL asked
me to present to you know, these participants this year
was show them, you know, part of the university level
(31:29):
where jobs are getting created in personnel just because of
the transfer portal and how it's changed college football. You know,
I brought Marvin Allen down here, the assistant GM of
the you know, the Dolphins. I handle pieces of it.
Daniel Haman came down here, which he runs a Scouts academy,
and we covered everything from the NFL schedule to the
(31:49):
evaluation process, you know, to exactly how departments are structured.
And I think that we well, we got incredible feedback
on it, for one thing, and I think it helped
these guys understand it. Maybe they wanted to get into it,
and maybe they didn't be because you know, this isn't
a part time gig when you get in the NFL
personnel or college personnel. So I hope it benefited them
(32:10):
because I think they're a little bit underserved with them
getting into the league, and hopefully this.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
Will help them.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
We want to thank you for coming on here and
talking about the Senior Bowl, and I love that you guys.
Immediately the moment he got on screen.
Speaker 4 (32:22):
You were like, truely, you got that connection. And that's
the whole point of this, right.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
It establishes not just the talent that they put on
on the field, but also that almost career long thread
to being a player, to being successful.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Is that how you felt her?
Speaker 8 (32:35):
Absolutely?
Speaker 7 (32:37):
It was so vital for me coming from a small
school HBCU University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, I needed
those moments.
Speaker 8 (32:43):
I needed the Senior Bowl.
Speaker 7 (32:44):
I needed to bring that good ODHS and exposure for
the scouts to watch my film. So actually I didn't
initially get invited to the Senior Bowl.
Speaker 8 (32:51):
I was.
Speaker 7 (32:51):
I went to the East West Ron game first and
performed there. I got a late invite to the Senior Bowl,
so I went just the following week, so back to back,
got to the Senior Bowl. Man, the first coach I
seen was Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 8 (33:03):
I seen them on to the side, was getting ready
to do one on one. I'm like, man, this is
real Mike Tomlin over there.
Speaker 5 (33:09):
You know.
Speaker 8 (33:09):
I gotta go out and perform.
Speaker 7 (33:11):
So the Senior Bowl helped me get into the combine
and it just the whole pre draft process. It really
doesn't happen the way that it did without the Senior Bowl.
Speaker 3 (33:19):
That's so dope.
Speaker 5 (33:20):
Man.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
I know my senior year, everything that I was trying
to do in college football was to have an opportunity
to go to Senior Bowl. I ended up getting injured
midway through my college my senior season, so I didn't
have that opportunity. But I could tell you that as
somebody that I was trying to aspire to be on
that platform. Right, My college team wasn't necessarily greatest, Right,
you came from a small school, So having that opportunity
to be on that platform, I can only imagine how
(33:41):
much that really accentuates your ability to be seen and
to be able to be on display in front of
these decision makers.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Yeah, sometimes it can change the entire trajectory of a
player's career. So thank you again for Drew and always
love the now.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
Panini senior vau
