Speaker 1 (00:04):
Good Morning Football is the production of the NFL in
partnership with iHeartRadio. Welcome to Good Morning Football, Mike. I'm
here in Los Angeles with our entire crew in person.
I love it.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Isaiah standback, not to mention your former Giants running back
to Shad Jennings ready to rock and roll, and a
five time Pro Bowl offensive tackle for the Saints and
the Dolphins, Tron Armstead. We have a camp miss quarterback
conversation as we take off a fresh hour of GMFSP.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Good Money Football, and Lamar Jackson does it again.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
It's unfair. These are the best athletes in the world
that he makes them look like they should not be
out there with them. When you think about the MVP,
that's Lamar Diggs.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Can you say m f B. Josh Allen, are you
kidding me?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I'd look at the speed Lamar Shackson. It's gone postles
his way into the episode.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
That's more like it.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
What an MVP race a season ago. It kind of
was like put the names in a hat.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Whichever one comes out, it probably would be okay with
that guy taking home that hardware. If you saw us
in the last hour, we were actually having some fun
in our break because it happens to the best of us.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
And I don't mean to double down on your kshat
who have fun. This side of the table had fun.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
But we then started throwing out in our commercial break,
like tough names because all of us have had those flubs.
You threw out a name, I mean, once you start
getting into multiple syllables and like double digit, you know,
at high double digit letters in a name, it'st a
little difficult.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Yeah, well, you know it depending on people's cultures and
where it come from. Right, some names are known to
be harder to pronounce it others. You know, we had
names there your origins of Nigeria, especially you start talking
about the Polynesians, right, A lot a lot of Polgies
are coming into the league. I had a Polynesian on
my team name Toui Okay. That was his first name, Tui,
but his last name was ali Eli follow Ula.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
He's one of my favorite office alignment that I had.
Speaker 5 (02:16):
He was a bigs he could pay actually play on
both sides of the ball, but Towey ali Ee followed
ula sixteen letters. Luckily, he was a big man, so
you could put the whole name on the back. He
was that if he was a punter. I don't know
how you would have done that.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
He had to wrap it five syllable lesson.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
I guess I didn't count.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
That's big time.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
You know the names I like, Josh Allen, I could
say it, it's nice and easy, and that Bill's quarterback.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
We say his name a whole lot. It picked up
some hardware after being named the NFL.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
MVP last season, but ultimately his team coming up the
legal short of that ultimate prize, the Lombardi Trophy after
falling to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, and
he told SI dot Com the ring is still the
thing that he's chasing. Yeah, pretty much every single player,
right Alan saying, quote, you know, it's such a great honor,
and I do appreciate being honored for my work.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
But at the same time, I still didn't win a
Super Bowl, didn't win.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
A ring, And that is the only goal, It's the
only focus that I've ever had going into this league.
Now it's tough, right like when you have in the
AFC a guy like Patrick Mahomes who seemingly every single
year and I get it. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles
won the Super Bowl, but at least to get through
Patrick Mahomes is not necessarily the easiest.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Thing to do.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
So I ask you, who's that player, who's that team
that can get over the hump and finally dethrone the
Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
You know what, this is a loaded question? It is
This is a very loaded question because there's two parts
to it. You have the quarterback aspect and then you
have the team aspect, right, and we know that the
QB leads well. How the QB goes usually how the
team goes. So with that in mind, I am going
to go with the team and the quarterback that I
feel has the most momentum as of late, right, and
I believe that is Josh Allen in the Buffalo Bills.
(03:50):
I think in the AFC, these guys are strong. Obviously,
Josh Allen has improved every single year. Josh Allen just
won the MVP.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
In the league.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Josh Allen in the Buffalo Bills over the last three
years have went wild Card, Divisional and now they went
it all the way to the A Championship Game. I
believe that these guys have increased in their production every year.
Now the quarterback is probably at the height of his game,
and I think that they're one game away from going
to the big time show.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
They are, But yet I look at a Jams cook
in that backfield.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Contract issues there, we still question some of the offensive
pieces at that wide receiver spot around Josh Allen. Good answer.
He got their home stretch here. Is there a different
team that you have on your head?
Speaker 4 (04:28):
It is? It is. We see Patrick Mahoons. He's gate
keeping these rings like Michael Jordan did back in the day.
He didn't let Charles Barkley get one. He didn't let
John Stockton and Karl Malone get one. Patrick Mahomes is
doing the same thing. In the AFC, it's Tom Lamar Jackson.
Lamar Jackson, I see Lamar being the guy in the
(04:48):
Baltimore Ravens being the team to dethrowing the Chiefs in
the AFC, they get over that hump. Finally, this year
the rosters stacked. There's no better time than now. Their
latest acquisition JayR Alexander and DeAndre Hopkins on offense to
bake those big third down conversions they just played with
(05:09):
Shad Bateman the offensive line a stack, Ronnie Stanley out
standing left tackle, the tight end duo, like, we can
really go down this roster and the time is now.
I think this is the year that he finally not
we I don't have a dog in the race. Shout
out the Dolphins this year. I think Lamar Jackson and
the Baltimore Ravens get past the Kansas City Chiefs in
(05:32):
Baltimore in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Yeah, they do have, at least in my mind, to
the best roster in the NFL, which is hard to top.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
But is there an up and coming team rashot Oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
We'll find it out.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
Yeah, listen, we love Lamar Jason, we love Josh Allen.
We know what they bring to the table. But y'all
missing of what's going on over here in Sofi Stadium.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Again, it's the charge of artist.
Speaker 6 (05:53):
Justin Herbert is going to be the guy to d
thrown And we ain't talking about somebody can win a
couple of games to actually win the Super Bowl actually
de thrown him.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
It is the Chargers. And then you asked, is it
the team or is it the player? Now? We like
we like passing yards, don't we? I love him? Thousands
sounds good.
Speaker 6 (06:11):
He was the fastest to get to ten thousand yards,
and guess who we de thrown that record from, Patty Mahomes.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
Y'all forget about that.
Speaker 6 (06:18):
We like tds right, he has the most tds UH
in the first four consecutive seasons. We like passing yards, right,
he has the second most passing yards in the first
four seasons, behind Andrew Luck. Who Andrew Luck was coached
by Jim Harball in college. And guess who's the head
coach now with the Chargers, Jim Harball. You see how
this works.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
We like consistency he has.
Speaker 6 (06:38):
He is the only the only quarterback to throw for
four thousand yards his first four consecutive season. So with
all that in mind, plus their defense, don't get me
started about their defense. The defense is loaded. And I
told you they got the best duo running back before.
So as a team collectively, we got to start talking
about these charges.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
Now, question for you, because I know me and my
boy t R. I'm gonna go ahead and pull down Yea,
I'm gonna I'm gonna go with.
Speaker 6 (07:03):
Right.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Get on.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
Now you've brought up all those stats. What's the playoff stats?
I said, what you're saying?
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Now that shot? I said, what you say? Now, that's
the question that we all want to have. We don't
want to talk about the individual status.
Speaker 5 (07:17):
We understand that the QB has the ball out, but
along with the QB the team all three phases of
the game, special teams, offense, defense.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
They got to be hitting and they have to get
YEA to the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
In order to even think about de throwing them boys
out there in casey.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
I'm with you, Isaiah. You heard a lot of numbers, thousand,
forty thousand of this individual They playoff wins. So what
hold their role? Y'all? The playoff role was in a.
Speaker 6 (07:52):
You know what, do y'all want to talk about stats?
Then let's talk about stats. Then watch o'll don't we
how y'all like that? Okay, we're talking about the playoffs,
says y'all. Bring up Josh Allen. You bring up Lamar Jackson?
Watching them head to head. Oh, they're great, absolutely great, phenomenal.
We're not taking that away. Let's go to the playoffs.
What happens to Lamar Jackson? Here, he's playing eight playoff games,
He's thrown for seventeen hundred yards. You look at Josh Allen,
(08:13):
he's only played in five. He's thrown for thirty four hundred.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
What happened? Now you look at them too, tds?
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Josh Allen is thrown for twenty five tds with four
picks in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
What happened to Lamar Jackson? Ten touchdowns to seven interceptions?
What happened?
Speaker 6 (08:27):
You want to bring up stats to talk about some
stats here, and so when we continue to talk about
the stats, you start to say, okay, who were their coach? Statistically?
Jim Harball stats are insane.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
So now when you're pairing the two, give them a
second year? Come on? Who else? You know? Gordon playoffs
first year?
Speaker 2 (08:44):
And by the way, Justin Herbert was banged up. Remember
he got hurt before the season started, to deal with
a foot injury. So there's something here. What does the
evidence tell you? And I know you can point to
Justin Herbert in some of these losses in the postseason.
I understand that, But the question was how do you
get over the hump against Patrick Mahomes and company? The
reality is we saw and look, I'm with you, Toronto.
I think the Baltimore Ravens are the team to be
(09:06):
in the AFC, but they had a home AFC Championship
game two years ago and couldn't close out against Patrick,
and we saw that team get to the postseason. So
these these guys haven't had a ton of postseasons sex
against Mahomes and company.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
So maybe we point to a.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Team that is seeing them consistently inside that division.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Sleeper. Yeah, that's why we got to go with the charge.
And I love Lamar Jackson. I think if it's going
to happen with Lamar, it needs to be this year.
This year.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
I mean it needs to be this year because you
got Derek Henry still running up. I mean that the
whole entire defense, Lamar is still everybody stays healthy over there.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
This is their year.
Speaker 6 (09:38):
Josh Allen's gonna be consistent. But the sleeper, seriously is
the charge?
Speaker 1 (09:42):
All Right?
Speaker 2 (09:42):
If you're gonna go sleeper an up and coming team,
then that also means that windows are are going like
this for a couple of those star players and Josh Allen, we.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Are about to get paid. So yeah, there's gonna be
some people to have to be some uh some what
do you call it? Trim the fed?
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Okay, so do we do say, like I don't want
to say this season or bust because I hate that
type of question. But the reality is if the window
is close, is there a sense of desperation to make
sure that this is your year?
Speaker 5 (10:08):
I believe that the Baltimore Arabians have a sense of urgency.
She wouldn't say desperation. I would say there's a sense
of urgency because just like we've seen which just happened
to San Francisco, right their whole team just got got
in terms of guys that were impact players that had
to leave the roster because you had to pay the QB.
Lamar Jackson has a contract right now, but we know
what's about to happen with Lamar's contract. Lamar was right
(10:28):
there and could have been a three time MVP. He
has a ton of leverage. If he goes out there
and does what we expect him to do this year,
he's going to get the bag. Matter of fact, I
don't think they get They can allow him to touch
the field without him getting the bag. So I think
that once that happens, somebody's it's gonna be good to
collateral damage. So you talk about your ability to have
the greatest impact, your chances of having the best team,
(10:51):
this is going to probably be the best team that
Baltimore can put on the field for some time to come.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Is it We're we're not talking about Joe Burrow. We're
not talking about CJ. Strat.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I mean two years ago as good of a season
we've seen as a rookie, and we just talked to
one of his teammates in Darryl Taylor. Like that team
seems like they could potentially make a round.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
I like those two more than the Charges. No, no offense.
I'm not taking Chargers. Yeah. I like Houston more than
in charge. I like Cincinnati more than the Chargers. Pick
with Cincinnati, their their defense and Trey Henderson, they get
him signed and well paid, well paid. That that defense
is different, it's a different dynamic. But they're playing those games.
They start getting into training camp, no deal done. If
(11:29):
their defense doesn't have that man on the edge, they're
not in the race, they're not in the picture. I
don't really care what they can do offensively in the playoffs.
You got to be able to stop somebody. Physical football,
bully football. You know, how did the how.
Speaker 6 (11:41):
Did the Philadelphia Eagles talking about de throwing it right,
but that's AFC. How did they beat Patty Mahoons, the
big fellas being physical. Who didn't Chargers offensive line right
with bully ball.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
The way that Jim Harball wants to play in an.
Speaker 6 (11:55):
Efficiency behind a Justin Herbert is the recipe. I mean,
you got to put together a full course mill if
you want to beat them. Now, Lamar Jackson, Josh All,
I think they put together a good state you know
what I mean, a good flame me on. But we're
talking about we need to dessert, you need to come
clean the crew up all that.
Speaker 5 (12:12):
So I one percent agree with you, and I felt
that Philly was going to do that to Kansas City
just because of who they had. But when we start
talking about you know some of the top teams at AFC,
once you go Kansas City, once you go the Bills,
once you go the Ravens. For me, the number four
is Houston because you start talking about the bully ball.
Look what Houston's done with their offensive line. Look what
Houston's done with their d line. We just got off
the call with them, right. Their defense is absolutely disgusting.
(12:34):
You started talking about protecting CJ. Stroud and now he
has all his weapons back on the field. Matter of fact,
they doubled down and added more weapons for him to
distribute the ball out to Who do they have in
the backfield?
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Two headed monster? That's nasty. You got mixing and chubbs.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
So you start talking about being able to play bully
ball and take the ball away.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
H Town is a team you better have your eye
off for. So then put them head to head.
Speaker 6 (12:53):
You got it, You got Houston and you got you
got the charges ro Houston has a better say so.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Then we have to I don't know about that.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
I think they're very similar to I think they're very
similar though very similar to though, but the edge goes
to the quarterback. Who are you taking as your quarterback kick?
Would you rather have ce Strout in the shrap or
would you have rather have Justin Herbert? And that's a
hard conversation.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
C J. Stroud proved to win in the playoffs first year.
Speaker 6 (13:16):
Oh did the team because you talk about the name
in the coach.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
Sustin Herbert was up twenty four points. Houston has enough
playoff team against Jacksonville. Yeah, yeah, I got me. That
was that was a collapse.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
But that also led to the harbor to get to
Harball right like that, that dose isues.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
That's why without Harrball, I know that happened without them ball.
I ain't passing the ball to nobody. It was twenty
four points. Get the job.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
But even before I think you can start having a
conversation about the Chargers, right, I talked about the top
four teams, Houston being my number four, my number five.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
It has to be, it has to be Denver.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
I was just about to bring that they were a
playoff squad a season ago.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Were just afraid of the sophomore sloan.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
We did see it a little bit with Stroud because.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
Dolphins, guys, I don't forget the Dolph gut got.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Look, and I know you're not going to throw shame
at that squad, but they go as far as Tua goes, right,
and like, there's some issues that we have seen where
I think all of us see some of the hits
that he's taken and we go, oh my god, please,
I don't I don't want to see you heard in
the long term if he's not out there, like there's
a real dropping production.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
Yeah, no, absolutely, absolutely, the Dolphins go as far as
to it takes them, for sure. But as we talk
about the numbers, we get into the analytics, it's not
many differences between Justin Herbert and Tua as far as
their production as a passer. Sure, they haven't had the
production in the postseason, neither one of them. So we
can't elevate Justin Herbert and what he's done statistically in
(14:40):
the regular season and not give to it the same
grace and Tua has far more dangerous weapons. That's it's
not all conversation to.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
Justin Herbert as that was going on, but you put
when you put those two, when you put those two
passers on the field with their weapons, I am much
more afraid of the Miami Dolphins than I am of
the Chargers.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
I'm talking about to take the running game out of it.
I'm talking about how you gonna take the game. How
you gonn take the running game out of it? Run
game out of it, don't take a running game is
a bigger part what opens up a game with the
top two people that Herbert throwing the ball to, you
gotta think you got to talk about it.
Speaker 6 (15:13):
He's he's coming up coming. I do have to think
about it. But the point is that regardless of that,
it's the same thing with Josh Allen. You had to
think about it, You had to think about who's his
top catchers, because it's him. He is that good, he's established.
These records are just do not happen. I can't make
this stuff up again.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Look, I get things from the Internet's what's that old adage, right,
like your best skill is availability.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
I know there's a missing but we see justin Herbert
out on the football field. Not always the case.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
I think there's an argument to be made about some
of the pieces that Miami has compared to the Chargers.
But that is new school football, you know, because you
played there versus old school football.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
And if we do see that matchup clash in a.
Speaker 4 (15:50):
Posseason, would love to see it.
Speaker 7 (15:51):
That would be tremendous.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Now, we started this conversation with kind of like a
two horse race here with Lamar and Josh Allen, and
we said, hey, maybe that windows drinking just a little bit.
Who gets that Super Bowl first? Between who Lamar and Josh.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
I think Joshkinson, Wow, I really like I'm a big
Lamar fan. There's just something about the Ravens that's just
been missing, and you can't put your finger on it.
And I don't think Baltimore can put their finger on
it either. They're trying to figure it out also, right,
which is why they're stacking the roster and they're trying
to put.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
As much talent as they can.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
But something is missing, and you don't feel the momentum
of their team gradually building every single year.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
Regular season, Yes, but in the playoffs, you get to
the playoffs and you just have that.
Speaker 5 (16:32):
You got that queasy feeling about Baltimore, Right, you're not
fully confident. The same argument with Buffalo. Buffalo argument, But
I went back into history Buffalo again. Wild Card Division
AFC Championship. They're growing towards towards the Super Bowl, right,
So they're migrating up along with their quarterback. Right, Josh
Allen was close to the MVP race. Now he won
the MVP right at the same time that this team
(16:54):
got to the last game PYE before going to the
super Bowl. So they have the momentum on their side.
With the Baltimore we keep going back and saying, well,
their rosters don't that's all we can lean on right now?
Speaker 4 (17:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (17:07):
Well, I mean, but I think though Lamar Jackson, if
I had to put my money on it happening this year,
it would be his best chances this year. I really
do think that we've already alluded to the contract things
to going to change. I don't think you could keep
Mark Andrews and likely the next year. Like, it's a
lot of things that have to change. So if it's
going to be Lamar's turn has got to be this year.
(17:27):
Josh Allen though, I mean, I think he's going to
be consistent.
Speaker 4 (17:30):
He's done more with less.
Speaker 6 (17:32):
I like him, I like both I do too, But
in the clutch, like who do you have to lean on? Right,
it's a combination of a little bit of history. But
who you trust and that's a tough one.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
I'm going Lamar. I'm going Lamar. Forty one touchdowns, four interceptions,
saying you know what I mean, that's that's efficiency, that's
protection of the ball. Turnover is the number one stat
in the NFL. If somebody's protecting the ball, I'm going
with that guy. I trust that guy.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Well, if you if you look at the rosters, right,
and it does come down to a trust issue, the
better team on paper is Baltimo, right, I mean, just
based off of the off season acquisitions, the draft was
absolutely tremendous for him and the pieces that they already
have in Plase.
Speaker 6 (18:12):
Yeah, I just never seen a piece of paper win
a ring. So facts, you know what I mean, Like
we can talk about papers all day.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
I know how that goes.
Speaker 6 (18:19):
You got to get out there and play, and you
know consistently. Josh Allen's been that guy.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Yeah, absolutely find out if Baltimore can get over the
hump something that we also haven't seen Buffalo.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
There's the reason why we throw that question out there.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
Still to come though.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
We know our guys around recently called it a career.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
So we're going to get his list of top five
pass rushers that were.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Nightmares to block.
Speaker 5 (18:39):
Plus, the next season of Netflix's show Quarterback will feature
Jared Golf, Joe Burrow, and Kirk Cutt.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
We'll go three and out with the Q beans when
we come back.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Get me off, Good morn, Karl, Good morning football. Netflix
releasing it the season two trailer of Quarterback. Your premieeres
(19:09):
July eighth, and yeah, I think all of us are
excited to be able to finally watch it.
Speaker 7 (19:16):
You know, you only have so many of these seasons.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
New Week, New Week, Let's go.
Speaker 8 (19:20):
Let's go start out your career. You're like, Okay, I'm
gonna be playing for fifteen twenty years. It seems like
a lot, and then you blink your eye and you're
in year five. Next time I blink my eye is
gonna be year ten. Now where we're at the great ones.
Make it work, get used to it.
Speaker 4 (19:39):
I feel so lucky to be the quarterback.
Speaker 7 (19:41):
Well, I was a quarterback.
Speaker 9 (19:43):
You have to be that guy that your teammates are
relying on.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
We don't want anybody decide this game but us.
Speaker 9 (19:47):
Our expectations internally, or win a super Bowl?
Speaker 4 (19:49):
For does that making nervous? No nervous fun A gonna throw?
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Let's how about that?
Speaker 7 (19:56):
Bots your girl getting back to the slicker out.
Speaker 9 (19:59):
A lot of people in my formal organization may have
thought I was being cast away, but I saw an
opportunity I had here was special.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
This life is definitely not normal. He's the most popular
figure we have. That's one man, Joe Pool.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Borrow a right, here's a part of me that just
always wants to fix things.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
I over let him.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
They're down.
Speaker 7 (20:18):
I do not want to give them the ball back
clock is our front.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
It's not all on him, but it's a lot on him.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
Turn over the ball game. I got it. Sometimes you
just need to mix it up a little bit.
Speaker 6 (20:29):
I just bought a batmobile.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
I'm pumped about that. But the gate.
Speaker 9 (20:34):
I actually cut this one down out in the woods.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Eight thousand time I had.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
I'd love to be the quarterback at this offense, and
it's just so much fun.
Speaker 9 (20:42):
You get too bad, Tom, you're retired.
Speaker 4 (20:47):
This is what it feels like to truly be wanted.
That's my quarterback.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Let's go, baby, and we found there's an opportunity that
would be a longer commitment.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
Because one is over. Tap it out.
Speaker 7 (20:58):
Will be surprised when the NFL drafts happened.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Somebody tried to break into Joe Burrow's house.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
Backs against the Wall quarterback on Now.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
We find no cap.
Speaker 9 (21:09):
That's what we're good for. Right here, when the noise disappears,
everything's falling right into place.
Speaker 4 (21:17):
Let's go.
Speaker 7 (21:18):
Now, this was a hard earned drud Rogers, all right,
I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
I got a little goosebumps, not just because it's cold
here in the studio. I know I speak for all
of us when I say we cannot wait to go
and watch this. We go three and out here with
Season two of Quarterbacks. All right, we will start with
Jared Goff, by the way, great redemption story. If you
had to pick a quarterback to choose here, he should
be on the short list, and I'm glad he's gonna
get highlighted. Is this team going to have the same
(21:54):
success without their offensive coordinator Ben Johnson?
Speaker 5 (21:57):
I have to say no, And it's not pertaining to
the talent that's on the team. We know this is
the best running back duel. We cover that earlier in
the show. We know that these dudes have one of
the best receiver tandems with them that's known as well.
And we know that they have a good quarterback and
one of the best offensive lines. But we don't know
(22:18):
what plays are going to be called. We don't know
what that sequence is going to look like. We don't
know what the distribution between run and pass is going
to look like. We don't know if the creativeness that
we've come to know and love about Detroit is going
to be there.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
So the matchups, right, the formulations of the plays, we
don't know any of these things. So it's a question mark.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
So I can't sit up here and confidently say that
they're going to have the same production they were lights
out the last few years under Ben Johnson's lineus, we
can't say that the next man up and John Morton
is going to be just as successful as Ben Johnson.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
I can't say that.
Speaker 6 (22:55):
Yeah, And I'm right there actually with you, because as
you hit it on the head, I mean, they got
a guy in the backfield who's going to be probably top.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Three running back.
Speaker 6 (23:02):
They got a guid a receiver out there, Saint Brown,
he's gonna be the top five receiver, I think, a
top ten tight end. And Sam Laporter is going into
his third year, Tim Patrick, and don't forget David Montgomery.
They got the sacked as we mentioned, and I love
Dan Campbell's type of attitude towards the game. But when
you start to look at Jared goffin his success, you know,
(23:23):
remember he was he was with the Rams and his
last year kind of was questionable, right, And so what
does he do? He goes over to the Detroit Liones.
Who is he under Ben Johnson kind of revamped him.
They put that man in so many great positions, reinstilled a.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
Lot of different confidence than them. And I think without
him there.
Speaker 6 (23:41):
It's like it's just like the person when you're all
around the Thanksgiving table, right, and y'all eat and having
a good time, and then at one person lead and
you kind of feel the room just dissipate the errors gone.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
It's like man, that feel different.
Speaker 6 (23:54):
I think Ben Johnson is one of those key elements
that makes the Detroit lines run. So I don't see
as much success as we've seen in the past, but
a good for sure.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
I have to disagree with you. I do, I do,
And I like your Thanksgiving analogy. But that great, that
great cooking still on that table. It's still on that table.
We just watched this movie in Philly and that Kelly
Green both coordinators leaving, they go win to Shuper Bowl.
The system is in place in Detroit. The culture is
(24:26):
in place, the mindset what these guys are set out
to do. They know they they dropped the ball last year,
number one seed, They had all their bases covered. They
dominated throughout the regular season, ton they was derailed by
a ton of injuries, a ton of injuries. But I
strongly believe in Dan Campbell, what he has built, the
system that they have in place, the maturity of these
(24:48):
young guys that they that they have now they sous
now in this fifth year he's now he's not a
young buck no more. He's and he's him for sure,
like he's a dog. So those those young guys that
they have now they're coming into their own even more.
They got playoff experience, even though it came in a
loss against the Commanders. I see them and I said it,
said it before. I have them coming out of the NFC.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Which would be a big task here.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
And I know the question centers around the offensive success
without Ben Johnson, but I think you make a really
good point because Aaron Glenn now is in New York
with the Jets. They lose both their coordinators, and you're right,
we did see that with Philadelphia. There was a hiccup
though that following season. I think they were the first
team in like thirty years or so of lose both
coordinators after getting to the super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
It took a little bit of time. Maybe that doesn't happen.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Maybe there's something that Dan Campbell can take a page
out of their playbook and fast track that success for.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
This upcoming season.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Turn a second down, though, Joe Burrow, Isaiah, you tell
me how do the Bengals avoid another slow start? Because
I feel like this is a team where we go
could have, should have would last year.
Speaker 4 (25:46):
It's their defense. Yeah, it's their defense.
Speaker 5 (25:49):
And we can talk about Trey Henderson all day long
in terms of his production and how he led the
league in sacks, but collectively, as a defense, these guys
are on the bottom of the of the league in
terms of total defense. I mean, you could pretty much
do whatever you wanted to against them, and this goes
all the way back to twenty twenty two. Really, you know,
these guys have not done much. You know, they're giving
up twenty two points a game, twenty five points a game.
(26:11):
You can't have a successful team if you're giving up
a bunch of yardage and points on one side of
the ball. Your offense is the most prolific offense probably
in the league. You know that one of the best
tandems in the league. That's finding Dandy. You know, you
got Joe Burrow on offense. But that's there. That's that
third of the game. If you get to the other
third of the game, okay, and you feel like you
(26:33):
can't stop a running nose, then you're you're pretty.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Much just trading points.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
So I think that if they want to be anywhere
in the conversation of being competitive once again, like we've
seen them go all the way to the Super Bowl
in years pass. Their defense has to step it up
and it can't be just on the backs of Trey
Henderson himself.
Speaker 4 (26:51):
Yeah, I do. I agree with you. On the defensive
side of the ball.
Speaker 6 (26:53):
They need to They obviously know what they have to do,
and we know established the run stop the run, right,
And I'm gonna go with the establishment first. I tell
you it's something about there's two Canadian running backs in
the NFL, and they are both monsters too. A Hubbard
over there with the Carolina Panthers and Chase Brown with
the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
He actually got the chance to step up.
Speaker 6 (27:15):
And not split time towards the end of the end
of the year with Zach Moss, and we saw what
he did. He covered nine hundred and ninety rushing yards.
Speaker 4 (27:24):
Close to one thousand and he had received.
Speaker 6 (27:26):
And he had fifty four receptions bringing him close to
four hundred yards put him at fourteen hundred total yards plus.
I think he's exceptional. I think he's a difference maker.
I think he helps Joe Burrow in a pass game
to give him a little his legs. That's very important
to keep him healthy, which is the long term. But
to start off fast, you got to run the ball,
(27:47):
control the clock, keep the defense, keep your defense fresh,
give them an opportunity because if he scored too quick,
we know it just like a basketball, say hey, running
clock out a little bit for us. So I think
established in the run game behind Chase Brown, they can
do that.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
I think Joe Burrow, I believe Joe Burrow start strong.
I don't think he comes out and have another slow
start to the season. I think he comes out hot.
They just pay both of his receivers. He got Mike
Gaseki back, the old line is back together again for
another year. So offensively, I think they come out explosively.
The issue is in AFC, it's a lot of elite defenses,
(28:22):
so that you can't really expect them to go out
and drop thirty on all these defenses in their division alone.
You gotta see Pittsburgh twice, you gotta see Baltimore twice.
You don't really expect them to drop thirty every time
you see these guys. So defensively, that's where I'm with you, Isaiah,
It's tough, you know what I mean. Trey Henderson. He's
an amazing player. Not that I claim to be the
sac master, but defensively, I don't see them being able
(28:45):
to hold off long enough for the offense to keep
scoring all these points in every game.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
If that's the case, is if we're perplexing what we're
seeing with the Schmart Stewart situation. You got a first
round pick, a defensive end who's supposed to help solidify
the other side of that defensive line.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
What are we doing here?
Speaker 4 (29:00):
What are we doing? Honestly, I'm with you. I'm lost.
I don't understand. And even just Tray alone, I go
back to trade you. I don't really know how it's
pushedback with his levelction, assistency in production, what do he
brings to the team. And then you draft a guy
first round who you are making it a big investment
to bring into your football program and we can't get
(29:22):
the contract done? Is what are we doing?
Speaker 5 (29:24):
Yeah, Awson, what are you communicating to your team? What
are you communicating to it? So we've all been in
those locker rooms, right, It's a huge deal, right in
terms of organizational structure, and we always talk about, you know,
fans get mad when players leave and go to another organization.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
This is why, This is why.
Speaker 5 (29:40):
Right, Look what happens when I show you consistent production
and now I'm literally the best in the league at
what I do this past year. And when you are
to talk about the best in the league total, I'm
in that conversation one, two or three. Right, all of
our stats are equal. Me and Miles Garrett. Our stats
are side by side. Now I want to get paid,
and you're like, hold up, right, you know, I hold up.
And the guy that you brought in to replace me
(30:01):
and for me to groom, You're like, hold up to
him as well?
Speaker 4 (30:04):
What are we doing? Oh? For real?
Speaker 2 (30:06):
So as we read that topic bar and it says
how does Joe Burrow in the Bengals avoid another slow start?
Maybe the answers make sure that the defenses is taken
care of. But I do know we started this conversation
about quarterback and season two. The fact that we are
following Joe Burrow and Kirk Cousins and Jared Goff. What's
the quarterback that you hope for season three gets followed?
Speaker 4 (30:26):
All right? So we're going third down. The quarterback that
I want to see followed is not just one quarterback.
All Right, I'm a still one out of shots book here.
I'm going to New York.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
Want to go to the New York Giants quarterback room, right,
not just one quarterback.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Don't just follow one person around. I need a whole
film crew.
Speaker 5 (30:42):
I need three cameramen to follow around the New York
Giants quarterback room.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Reason being, these guys have.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
Russell Wilson, who is a thirteen year vet and Super
Bowl champion.
Speaker 4 (30:55):
That is mister affirmation. He's going to be your starter.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
Behind him, you have the most personable person, probably comedic individual.
Speaker 4 (31:03):
In the league.
Speaker 5 (31:03):
And Jamis said, who's gonna be eating a dub even
if they're eating losses?
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (31:08):
And then and then at third stream, you have a
first round pick from this year who's gonna be your
third stream quarterback? In that quarterback role, there is three
different personalities, three different dynamics.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
I cannot wait our hope.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
I wish that those guys would be in this quarterback
Maybe it's next year, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
And by the way, that first round pick has got
some he's confident, very confident out there, so there is
some swagon. He probably will be a starter at some
point during the season.
Speaker 6 (31:36):
I love everything you said. Man, I was about to
come over that dapt you up to you. Somebody's gonna
eat some of them lost. I can't get I can't
join on that one, man. But I tell you Netflix,
I don't watch too much TV folks. But my wife
she loves some drama, so she puts me in front
of the TV.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
From time to time. I get lost into it.
Speaker 6 (31:53):
So I got to think about what is gonna get
me some drama beauty, And I'm going to the bass.
Let me say, I'm going over there because I want
to see Kayla Williams. He's gonna give a little bit
of everything. Right, think about this, right, No, he's watching
film by himself, no structure.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
He's a lone wolf allegedly.
Speaker 6 (32:10):
Right, then you think about he was a first round
first overall draft pick Ooh, that's the drama, and he
went to a beautiful situation that doesn't happen. But his accessor,
Jenny dails outplayed him the drama.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
What's gonna happen this year? Allegedly?
Speaker 6 (32:26):
Right, I'll say, allegedly, be careful over here. But his
dad said the Bears where you go for quarterbacks to die?
Speaker 4 (32:31):
Well, man, that's drama. Let me see what he does
this season. But he's six to two, he's two twenty.
Speaker 6 (32:36):
He's running a four or five elite armed DJ DJ
Moore is over there.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
They got Swift, they got Johnson Luther is over there,
Burden the third.
Speaker 6 (32:46):
I really want to see these guys play the velocity.
I think he's going to do well. So there's the
beauty of it. And don't forget September eighth, they start off.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
Monday night football against the Vikings, going.
Speaker 6 (32:56):
To Soldier Phield seven to fifteenth.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
Such a time.
Speaker 6 (32:59):
This is somebody I want to watch because he has
personality and they got a storyline there this year.
Speaker 4 (33:05):
What you got, I'm going Jane Daniels and selfishly for
for the dynamic of Mama five that as a as
a parent with kids, that's that's athletes. I would love
to see that their dynamic. I would love to see
how she handles all these different components of his career
on the field, off the field. She's qualified, she certified
(33:25):
as an agent. She's a great business mind as well,
so I would love to get that insight to see
that relationship how it goes from parent to child. And
also as partners and agent and client Beck You're on GMT. Baby.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Steelers are going to open up training camp at Saint
Vincent College in under a month. It'll be Aaron Rogers's
first in the Black and Yellow, and as he told
the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, it'll likely be his
last season as well, not just for the Steelers but
in the NFL.
Speaker 10 (33:52):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is it.
Speaker 4 (33:53):
You know.
Speaker 10 (33:53):
That's why we just did a one year deal. Uh
Steelers didn't need to, you know, put in the extra
years on that or anything. So you know, this was
really about, uh, finishing with a lot of love and
fun and peace for the career that I've had. I've
played twenty freaking years. You know, It's been a long,
long run and I've enjoyed it. And what better place
(34:15):
to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises of
the NFL with Mike Tomlin and a great group of
leadership and great guys in the city that you expects
you to win.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Rogers sounding Berry's zen.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
There some other Steelers news for you, the team announcing
they've signed safety Shawn Elliott to a new three year contract.
Started fourteen games for Pittsburgh last season after originally signing
a two year deal in twenty twenty four, NFL Network
insider Tom pelo Sero reporting the additional two years of
the deal is worth twelve and a half million dollars
and the Niners they're tied in. George Kittle under contract
(34:50):
with the team through twenty twenty nine, but he told
the Busting with the Boys podcast he plans to play
until he's not having fun anymore, so tells me that's
going to be a long time.
Speaker 1 (34:59):
After that, he said he'd loved to join the WWE. Yes,
that is a very strong fits.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Still more to come on this CMFB off season staple
of top five list, we'll get Toron's take on some
of the toughest pass rushers in the NFL do not
go anywhere.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Good mon.
Speaker 5 (35:30):
All right, y'all, welcome back to GMF being in the
off season. And now y'all know it wouldn't be GMFB
offseason if we didn't have a top five list, So
I've had my turn at top five lists. We talked
about the best quarterbacks with the strongest ours. We talked
about some of the best duos. But now boys, Yeah,
trash talkers, but now it's my boy t Arms his
turn to talk about his illustrious career and who are
(35:52):
the some of the nastiest goons that he.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
Faced in the league? T Arm, take it away, baby.
We have a plethora of elite rushers in the league
right now, and I think it's only getting better. These
guys are getting bigger, faster, stronger. But the top five
guys that I have to name, I have to mention
right now. I'll start with number five. He was a
rookie last year. I recently spoke spoke about him as
(36:16):
Jerry Verse. Wow, this young man is impressive. His power
that he's able to generate. As I was studying for
this young man throughout this season and I'm watching him
not guys back, consistently driving guys into the quarterback, running
people completely over. I want. I was. I was anxious
(36:37):
to see. I was excited for the start of the
game to see his power myself. In the first play,
we had to drop back pass and he goes with
a bull rush and I couldn't stop laughing because it
was funny, Like how powerful, how different the power was.
It's incredible, I think this guy. As he continues to
add more components to his game. More moves with his hands,
(36:57):
an inside move, a counter, all the counters off the
off the bull rush. He will be a problem. I
said this a couple of weeks ago. I see Jared
Vers being a defensive player of the year one of
these good days. Who you got above him? Number four
as a teammate of mine, Top Robins, young, top von
millerisk von Miller, like von millerism. Okay, he has that slip.
(37:23):
Hop has that. He started off the year slow, really slow.
The second half of the season, Chop was arguably the
best pass rusher in the league. His get off, his elite,
his ability to bend his elite. He's learning more about
the game, he's getting more cerebral, He's having a plan.
He's going to start the year off. He's blazing coming
out the gate. This year, he get Bradley Chubb and
(37:45):
Jalen Phillips out there with him, so can take some
of the attention off of him. He get more one
on one opportunities. I can see him leading the league
in secks. Maybe not this year.
Speaker 2 (37:54):
He didn't have a sack numbers coming out of school.
People were questioning him and the kids Chip too. I
remember that draft process, everyone was talking about the freak
athletic ability. Is there a moment that stands out where
you said, hey, this dude is just different because of
the traits.
Speaker 4 (38:06):
You've seen it early Ota Is. You've seen him just
move because he had he coming from the same schools
Michael Parsons, so he had the Michael Parsons comparison. I
don't really see the Michael Parsons comparison as a player.
I see more von Miller, so I see the movement ability.
But once he was able to start putting things together
throughout the season, you saw the production and it's scary.
He is. I'm telling you he's gonna get double. Team's
(38:28):
gonna get chipped by tight end all right. Number three
baby also a former teammate of Mind made the man.
He's at number three. He's at number three. Oh wow,
he's a number three mister Peedon man. Trey is relentless.
That's that's the word that comes to mind every time
we talked Trey Henderson. He is relentless. His motor does
not stop. I think he has the electric he got
(38:50):
the Tesla battery because he don't have to worry about gas.
This guy is going. He's going. His speed is get
off every time Trey really has he has a fastball,
and he has a curveball. His fastball up the field,
double handswipe his curveball, bull rush. It is nasty, it's nasty.
So who do you have above Trey Henderson? He's number three?
Who's number two to number two? Mad Max? Mad Max?
(39:15):
Max Frosby? What makes Crosby so difficult to block? And
why I have to put him over Tray on this
list because what he's able to do on both sides Tray,
he predominantly rushes the left side shows in the in
the scheme. Schematically, you can set guys over there to
fly to him. You can put tight end over there.
Max is all over the field. He's all over the field.
(39:35):
The same word relentless. He's violent, he is, He's the
ultimate motor. And this guy is just he's a problem.
You gotta do the whole game. You gotta deal with
him the whole game. All right. You got probus trigger
Trey at that three, you got mad Max at two? Yeah,
who is your number one? I gotta give you credit?
You call this guy to sack master. He's consistently over the.
Speaker 7 (39:59):
Last eight years.
Speaker 4 (40:02):
He's a problem except five he has twenty five percent
body fat. So you're looking at this guy before he
gets in his stance and you're just like, this is
it doesn't make sense. But Miles Garrett ability to have
so much power to be that size, but can rush
just being inches off the ground. His ability to bend
(40:24):
Ben in the corner. He's added more elements in this game.
I played him early, maybe his second year twenty eighteen.
Miles Garrett Versati stad one of the top five one
on one battles in NFL history, and now you see
the progression that he's made now coming into twenty twenty
five twenty sacks. Can I's gonna touch twenty sacks?
Speaker 2 (40:42):
Which would be unreal? I mean, just look at those.
He's not skipping arm day number one, number two. Can
I just make on a request every.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
Time we talk about Miles Garrett our production too. We
gotta have the AI crossover.
Speaker 4 (40:51):
You have to do that, the ice on the center.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
Seriously, all right, we got any honorable mention some dudes
that were close to making the cut?
Speaker 4 (40:59):
Yeah, I have. I have a few honorable mentions. T
J Watt. I didn't have him on there because I
never played against him, Yeah, only in the Pro Bowl,
and he was chilling. I was chilling. I appreciate your
t J. I wasn't ready for all that. H t J. Watt.
He's definitely on that list as well, and I would
leave him as the as the honorable mentioned. Okay, listen,
that is a strong list, strong list. Good job with you. Listen.
(41:23):
That's five guys that I would never want to face.
Good things. I didn't have to Buck. I'm glad I
never have to face him again.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
All right, Pat here on Good Morning Football. Here, here's
my guy. It's Wrap Sheet tighten you.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
Here we go, finished strong, all right.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
I do love this because Wrap, you know, a little
so sort but.
Speaker 4 (41:50):
Finished finished mine my mind.
Speaker 5 (41:58):
Because I've seen Dallas Clark trying to do it and
he didn't catch nearly as many as my boy Raps,
so Rap might have to go out there put his
in the ground.
Speaker 1 (42:04):
There might have been pure joy in my voice, and
that was real.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
I was pumped for you. Grab a couple of those.
This has been awesome. Anything that that resonates for you, guys.
Speaker 4 (42:13):
