Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
What's up everybody? Welcome to move the sticks, DJ and
Buck with you?

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Buck? What is going on? Man? Not too much?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Djy still recovering from a wild football weekend. Oh my gosh,
are you kidding me?

Speaker 3 (00:18):
There?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
There were some interesting results from this last weekend's games.
If you missed the previous episode, we hit on six
big ones with Baldy and we do that each and
every week. I wish we had time to get to
all the games with them, but we don't quite have
that luxury. So I wanted to hit on some of
those games that we missed. And then there's another topic
I want to get to you on as we're as
we wrapping that up.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
But let's get first of all here to what we
saw here Atlanta, New England. New England holds on. They
beat Atlanta twenty four to twenty three.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Look, man, is just the New England Pages doing what
they do, I mean, just playing really good, complimentary football
and a lot of the credit always will go to
Drake May. But man, I can't say enough about the
job that the coaching staff has done in terms of
remake and this team remaking this franchise. They're not only
connected in terms of their relationships and those things. Because
you see the clips Stefan Diggs talking to Josh McDaniels

(01:08):
and in the pass about what I need to talk
to about the team and all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
We've seen that the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
But man, just the way that they compliment each other
and the way the game plans are, the offense and
the defense, the special teams are all working.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Together to get this stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
And I'll say this, it's gritty, not pretty when it
comes to the Patriots, but man, they are sitting pretty
when it comes to being seven and two and trying
to get this thing done in the AFC North and.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Af Yeah, no, they're They're in a great spot, man,
And the schedule lines up for him. We've been talking
about that. But Drake, may you know, just confidence continues
to soar. Mike Mike comment on this one is one
the Atlanta's side of things. I feel like, gosh is
Atlanta's kind of turned into one of these teams that
can fill up a box score and you kind of
what's missing here, Like they look pretty, and they look

(01:54):
pretty on paper and then they just don't finish. They
don't YE don't know. I just there's something missing there.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
I can't put my finger and I we used to
always just blame it on the pass rush, and now
you look up and now they've got young guys that
are really rushing the passer, and they've got skilled players,
and I don't know, man, I would.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Say this, I would say DJ, some of this is
are they tough enough?

Speaker 3 (02:18):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Like, are they are tough enough team to be able
to win these games? I don't know if they're tough
enough to be able to get these things done. And
that's hard to say. I mean, I don't want to
like faulk or anything like that. They just I don't
know how to stacks in this game.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Man.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
They just you talked about this team forever like that,
like they can't rush the passer. Well now they can
rush the passer. And now they've got a young quarterback.
Now they've got you know, arguably the most talented running
back in the NFL. They got Drake Lennon, who's a
number one receiver. Like, they've got a lot of these
pieces here. There's not not winning ball games and they
know shows. I mean this, they didn't no show, but
they've had no show games this year. Where to me,

(02:57):
like you, you've always been big on You've talked about
maturity all the time. And I'm not saying this is
a head coach thing. I'm saying it's just like a
teamish team thing. But it just seems like to be
able to put teams away and play up when you
need to play up, and not play down when you're
playing bad teams, Like that's a maturity thing.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
One hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
We talked about championship maturity like people they just know
how to take care of business.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
DJ.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
We've all been a part of championship organizations and there's
just a thing where you just kind of know, hey, guys,
were getting to the point where now we need to
take your business. Everyone focus in, lock in. In games,
you'll see the team hit the switch and be like, hey,
this is a critical moment in the game where we
can separate from others.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Let's make this happen. That's what we're talking about.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
And that's really because when you look at the standards
and you see all these teams in the middle of
the fact there's a clump of teams. But the teams
that ascend to the ones that are contenders are the
ones who have that maturity to know what's on the line,
whether it's game by game, whether it's quarter by quarter
or play by play. They just have this sense that
we need to get it done, and their urgency goes

(04:01):
up and the execution follows.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
All right.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Next game here Denver eighteen fifteen over Houston. They kick
a field goal to win it late. Kind of an
ugly game, but man, Denver has they've lost one of
the Chargers coming down to the to the very end.
They lost two games down to the very end. But
then man, they have they've found a way to win
a couple of these nail biers as well. I mean,
we've talked about the defense forever. I don't think the

(04:25):
offense is like the most dynamic, dynamic offense, but they
find a way when they need to drive late to
get one and they got one against Houston, and Houston
to be fair, C J. Stroud gets knocked out of
this ball game. They're in a world of trouble. Man.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
They're three and five. Yeah, they're three and five. Divisional
game coming up against the Jaguars next week. And that
could happen with it without CJ.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Stroud. That is almost like that is a must win
situation from them.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
They fall completely off the map when it comes to
playoffs in those things. I feel bad for Houston because
defensively they are more than good enough of being a
top five team.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Offously, they just can't get it done.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
And whether we tell talk about personnel, schematics, tactics, or whatever,
it's just not working for them. And I know that
the Denver Broncos are a dominant defense, a suffocating defense,
but they're playing without Pat Passer ten and they still
are able to kind of have their way.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
It's just a weird thing. It's an anominates.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
I've never seen someone and it's not all his fault,
but I've never seen someone that we celebrated so much
as a rookie and two years later we're just like, man,
can we get that old CJ, that OCJ back?

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Yeah, no, kidding, it's not been the same. Talking about
those snug losses, they lost to Indy twenty nine to
twenty eight and the Chargers twenty three to twenty, both
at the very end of the game. So outside of that,
this team would be nine to oh, they're seven and two.
They just ripping off win after win after win. They've
got Vegas coming up, which should put them at eight
and two, and then you get the big showdown with

(05:50):
Kansas City that is coming up on November sixteenth. But
the schedule sets up for them. Man, they're going to
be They're going to be a high seat in the postseason.
Whether or not they can hold on and when the
divisional yet to be determined, but the Broncos have set
themselves up there in great shape. San Francisco mac Jones.
Is this graduated into a blessing or curse by the

(06:12):
way thirty four to twenty four he has a great
day as they beat the Giants.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
I mean it's still a blessing because he's kept him
afloat and kept their playoff hopes like flickering, like you
want your backup quarterback to do. But it's also become
a very extensive proposition because every time he plays and
starts and wins like it's a big bonus.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
I think he's like four inside of something crazy that
he's playing.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
But he's also setting himself up to be the next
reclamation project if he finds a team that plays the
system that the Niners are playing, much like Sam Donald
and Baker Mayfield and some of these other guys have
been able to do. But credit him. When mac Jones
plays inside of himself, meaning he colors inside the lines,
mac Jones can be a really good quarterback. Mac Jones

(06:56):
gets in trouble when he wants to free lass and
get out side of the lines and get creative and
make his own things. So I just want to give
him the col Shanahan coloring book and just tell him
the black things just standside the boors.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
Because when he does it, he does look like a
high end quarterback.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know how it could happen,
but I'm looking at mac Jones and thinking, man, you know,
we'll see what openings come up, and if those openings
also you know, not only the head coach, but would
have a quarterback spot that could be open. But man,
I wonder if you could see a you know, a
Sark or Elaine Kiffin maybe eyeing a you know, a

(07:35):
marriage with Mac Jones, you know, kind of the Alabama
tize Alabama connection there to to try and land someplace
and have him as their quarterback. But he's going to
be starting somewhere next year. There's no question about it.
With the way he's he's rebounded and played under Kyle Shanahan.
All right, let's keep the train moving here, Buck. Next game,
the Rams just pulverize the New Orleans Saints. DeVante Adams

(07:58):
gets in the end zone a couple of times. They're
doing whatever they want right now. They're playing really, really well,
and they're on a collision course with Seattle.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Yeah, they are on a collision course with Seattle.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
And I'll say this, man, as long as you got
Matthew Stafford, you have a chance when you're the LA Rams.
Matthew Stafford is just gen I think I have a
greater appreciation for him now than I ever did, even
though he was he had his number one pick, came
in and did a bunch of great things. In fact,
it was in the MVP conversation during his time with
the Detroit Lions. But his ability to drop dime after dime,

(08:28):
whether he's looking at the receiver or no look at
the receiver, is bananas.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
He just is a special talent.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
And in LA what Sean McVay has done is he's
been able to use him when needed not use him
all the time the way that he was utilized early
in his career in Detroit. They pick and choose when
to ask him to put the cape on and become
the masterful playmaker. But man, when he does put that
cape on, he is a terrific guy when it comes
to making these superhero plays.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Yeah, his numbers are ridiculous, he's in them. I would
say he's the front runner for the MVP right now.
Having an absolute monster season. Interesting with the Rams, Buddy
Jordan Rodrik posted that they were in thirteen personnel thirty
five of seventy seven plays had a fifty one percent
success rate out of that personnel grouping, including four touchdowns.
They ran the heck out of it, ran it really well,
close to two hundred yards, and then they're efficient and

(09:18):
explosive in the passing game. That's a good spot to
be in the Rams, playing really, really good football and
absolutely on a collision course with Seattle. Before too long,
you're going to see that twice before we get to
the end of the season. Looking forward to those matchups.
All right, let's say a quick pause and then we'll
rip through a couple more of these games than I've
got a college question for Bucky. All right, Buck, next one,

(09:42):
we'll get to the games we were at so Chargers
Tennessee Titans. I mean, it was all set up for
an upset for the Titans in this game. Their first
two touchdowns come without their offense doing anything.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
You get to pick six.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
First drive from the Chargers, Barton undercuts Keenan Allen a
little stop route, picks it to to the house. There's
a touchdown. Then you get Shamir d k with a
punt return for a touchdown. So they get a couple
non offensive scores early the Chargers. Unfortunately, Joe alt he
gets he gets rolled up on the same ankle again,
which is just brutal. As we're recording, this hasn't been

(10:15):
announced what the severity is there, but it did not
look good. And then you know, Herbert gets sacked a
bunch of times in this game as they're just playing
with so many backups along this offensive line.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
But his answer, I.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Thought was a good one, was Okay, we got to
use my legs a little bit. At that point in time,
he hadn'trun much in this game. He's run a lot
this year, but he rips off a long run he
has a quarterback sneak for a touchdown, he has another
scramble for a score. So it was I think he
converted like six first downs with runs, and they have

(10:48):
kind of got they perfected their own little version of
the tush push with him, and you would it makes sense.
He's so big and strong that you know that it
makes sense that they would get something going and figure
that out. I should say, just the one, the one
rushing touchdown. Just a bunch of conversions.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
But then then defensively, they you know, they got off
the quarterback a little bit. Dafeol Way a couple of sacks.
He's got four sacks in three games since he came over.
It's been a great for the Chargers.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
Yeah, how about that. It's funny you talked about it
at Tish Push.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
I did notice that when I was watching the game,
the running star from the backfield to hit Herbert in
the back. I just I just hope he doesn't get
ripplash from all that that force did he feels But
by the.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Way, real quick on that, I told Money we had
that long delay and the long flight homes and and
Matt money smith sits right next to me. Is the
play by play guy for the for the Chargers, and
we're real tight and Buck has worked with him forever
as well. But I'm sitting there and I said, hey, man,
like now that they're doing this a lot, like they've
got like the brotherly shove, like do we can't? We've
got to come up with it. We photo, We tried

(11:50):
to workshop a name for that thing, none of which
could be appropriate. I don't think you can say the
thrust in justin. I don't think you can say that. No, No,
you can't.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
That's no.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
So we workshopped a lot of different things. Oh okay,
he said. The TV broadcast was trying to call it
the power Surge. Okay, with the lightning and the bolt.
I get that, maybe, yeah, but then it's not ours,
it's not original, So I don't think we can do that.
But yeah, we we tried, Buck, We tried to come
up with something, but didn't have anything. But hey, can
I get you real quick on the Titan side of things.
Sometimes when you're on a bad team, you can be

(12:23):
a really really good player and go underappreciated and never
talked about. Cedric Gray. I say this because he's a
tar heel linebacker is all over the field for them.
He is a good football player. And I don't know
that I've heard his name once on a national conversation,
but he is. He's playing, he is playing really second
year player, He's all over the field.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
He is a good player.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
The defense actually did some good things and played well
considering no Jeffrey Simmons for that group. They're playing hard.
You know, Micha McCoy's there is taking over the interim coach.
Tough spot to yeah, hard.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Job to take over. Wilson is doing the defense and
they are playing hard. They just don't have enough, man,
they just don't They just don't have enough all around.
And it's gonna be interesting to see how they try
and rebuild this team because in my head, the Titans
have always been synonymous with rough, rugged, physical teams.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
They kind of get after it. I remember the heyday
when they were.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
The Tennessee Tyrants, Keith Bullock and those guys. I wonder
what their identity is going to be. And this is
going to be a chance for you know, new general
manager Chad Brick or the president of operations or whatever
to kind of figure out what this team is going
to be.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
But I just know, and you know from those robberies
with Baltimore whatever.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
I just know whenever they've been their most successful, they
have played a certain way.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
And now Eddie George and Derrick Henry, that's when they've
been successful.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
I don't know if they can deviate from that blue
friend in their formula, despite how some team builders see
their perfect vision of teams.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
They're going to have a brand new, beautiful stadium for
the twenty seventh season. That things coming to the other night.
It's gonna be nice. So I'm looking forward to that.
And I will say they got to get helm the
ball mot, a rookie tight end out of Texas. Yeah,
he made a big time catch. They got to get
him going. But DK is playing well. Jamiir Dk is
a he's leading the league in all purpose charts. He's
been excellent. And then you you know, I owe Manner,

(14:16):
the rookie from Stanford, kind of get him going a
little bit. They need upgrades along that offensive line, although
I would say Skeronsky's played really well.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
He's turned into a good player for him.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
They got some pieces man, and Jeffrey Simmons is a
good at defensive tackle as there is in the league
when they get him back healthy. I just think they
need an alpha, they need an alpha receiver. They need
to upgrade a little bit of that offensive line, and
then it's gonna take some time. Man, you gotta it's
not It's not a quick fix here.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
He's not a quick fix in the league that doesn't
have time. And so that's what.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Well, there's gonna be a fresh news staff coming in,
so they're going to start the clock over. Cam Ward's
gonna be okay, don't panic about that. I mean he's
He's got all the tools that you need. He just
he's not working with a ton right now. So just
be patient with him. You see some good things there.
His one mechanical thing is when he has to move
around and reset and throw, his accuracy goes to crap.

(15:06):
He's actually better just throwing on the mover or throwing
off platform than when he has to reset get his
feet and the ground. He missed a couple, but I
wouldn't I wouldn't be too overly concerned there.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
All right.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
That's the one I was at Buck. How about the
wildest heck game you were at Jacksonville denying a two
point conversion at the end of overtime to win this
one thirty twenty nine over the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Yeah, you know, DJ. You know what was funny.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
The more did I look at the league and the
more we talk about these high end players when it
comes to the draft and those things, ultimately you determined. Look,
it's the undrafted, it's the non mor quy players that
determine whether you make the playoffs and go deeper because
injuries tear up everything. And I'm looking at a Jacksonville

(15:49):
lineup debd no Travis Hunter because he got injured doing
it bye week, you have Thomas Junior, Brian Thomas Junior
goes out the game. So you you're talking about park
at Washington, you're talking about.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
He's the man.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
You're talking about Tim Jones.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
I mean, you doing no Breton strange and you're just
playing with a bunch of guys that are viewed as
cast offs or outcast or whatever, and you're having to
lean on them, and then on the offensive line you
get guys to get banged up whatever. You're still needing
to run the ball and you successfully run the ball.
And then I look over on the other side with
the Raiders, they're having to do it too. They're having
a piecemeal the lineup, trying to figure out who we

(16:27):
get players in and those things. Overall, the game was
interesting because I felt like the Raiders played really, really
well in terms of understanding who they are. Chip Kelly
has kind of found a way to get this team
to have an identity now, and some of that is
what you would always say, because I'm watching them and

(16:47):
I'm looking at the lineup and I'm like, all right,
coming into the game, you can't let Aston Gent.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
And brock Bowers beach yep.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Now I'm looking and asking gents and brock Bowers are
just whipping the tail.

Speaker 3 (16:58):
I mean, just Bounce is just like this unstoppable force.

Speaker 1 (17:02):
And I'm like, I don't know much, but I know
if I look over there, you probably don't want eighty
nine to get the ball.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
He is getting the ball.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Whenever they needed to go to a playmaker, he gets it.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
I mean, they have some pieces.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
I just think Chip Kelly just needs to keep recycling
this formula and they'll find their way into the win column.
But now, it was a great win for the Jags
because they just kind of outlasted, uh the Raiders in
the game. There was a tough one for them on
the road.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
Bowers twelve for one to twenty seven and three touchdowns
in that game. Geno actually had a nice game ninety
nine eighty four to four touches one pick en.

Speaker 3 (17:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Yeah, they ran the ball and then they came bootleg
every look, every possible bootleg that you ever want to see.
If you're our little league coach and you want to
learn how to bootleg, watch this game with Gino Smith.
Every bootleg that you could run. I saw, slide, full
delay everything. I was like, man, get like like it's
like a high school game, like anywhere boutleg that Chip

(18:00):
Kelly could come up with.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
But he did a really good job of getting better
quarterback back on truck Man. So it was a good
it was fun game. I just saw the tail end
of it. I didn't get a chance to watch the
video of the tape of it yet, but looking forward
to that. I mentioned the college thing, So Auburn is
looking for a coach now as well, Buck, I mean,
this has been this has been bonkers, man, And this
is this This is the common refrain that I've got
from talking to a lot of people in the in

(18:22):
the college space. It's like where they think all these
coaches are coming from, like to fill all these gigs.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
DJ I don't like, That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Maryland also fired their coach, Mike Lockley was let go
after losing to Indiana. I guess it was home coming
from Maryland and it was an embarrassing defeat with Indiana
coming through. But another job at open and I'm sitting
here and I'm like, yeah, like, okay, that's great.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
Everyone wants better. Yeah, who's better? I mean, I'm still
trying to figure out who Penn State and.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
Florida and LSU are gonna hire before we even think
about the arkansass in the Auburn.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
I mean, so some of the we still have Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech's out there.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
It sounds like Virginia Tech put the you know, they're
trying to put the squeeze on James Franklin to get
him to make a decision before he decides. I'm like,
I don't know, James Franklin. I wouldn't be in any rush.
And he's like the bell of the ball right now.
He's like, hold on, wait manitt, let me see what
else shakes lose.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
I mean, I don't know, And I think this is
what happens when and Nick Saban has talked about this
when you have the moneymakers beginning to weigh in on decisions,
they have a voice and everyone wants it right now,
and it's just impossible to think that every team is
going to be a perennial powerhouse, that they're all going

(19:36):
to go to the playoffs year in year out.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
It's just not going to happen. No, it's going to
be a wild It's going to be wild. I'm looking
forward to having Bruce Feldman on. We need to have
him on kind of go over all this stuff. I
know he's coming on here in the near future. I
don't know if it's this week or next week, but
we are going to have Bruce on the show. So
we'll definitely ping him about all the all the craziness
that's going on in the college football space right now.

(19:59):
All right, Buck, this has been a quick one. We
want to hit on some of those games. Next episode
is a fun one. We do have Bruce coming on
on ten days from now on the thirteenth, uh, coming up,
So looking.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Forward to that one. Uh.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
But uh, we're gonna have Ratt on the next episode,
we'll do the rookie draft recap and look forward and uh, I.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Gotta say this, Yes, sir, mine is in the protest?
Are missing somebody? Did he not play?

Speaker 2 (20:22):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
