Speaker 1 (00:05):
NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
with iHeartRadio. NFL Now presentibay IQ is showing you Kansas City,
everybody where we are.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Let's do the math.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Andrew I messed it up last hour, twenty nine hours
away from the first overall pick of the twenty twenty
three NFL Draft. Cannot wait for it to get here.
The Carolina Panthers say they have already figured out who
it is they're going to take.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
But they won't tell us. We'll figure out tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
That's Steve whitch My name is Andrews Ciciliano. We are
here in the studio in Los Angeles where it was
a surreal day, a day that we're gonna remember for
a long time in the history of this National Football League.
A day in which Steve Whitche Aaron Rodgers showed up
in New York, held up a number eight Jets jersey
and was on the podium.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
I mean again, if I'm a Packers fan, I'm listening
here like, oh my gosh, I can't believe what I'm saying.
Then I'm a Jets fan, I'm like, I can't believe.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
What I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
It's Aaron Rodgers and the energy and everything that they
showed right there. Andrew he's happy to be there, he's
motivated to be there. He's going to be there all
off season. So just a lot of positive signs for
the Jets here.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
And a lot to unpack as well from that press
or roll.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
It they smoked us last year, so I knew they
had a good team. We got to practice against them
a couple of years ago, and I got to get
to know Robert a little bit more, and I've always
loved what he's all about. We played him in San
fran a few times and mostly they got the best
of us, but I liked the way that he was leading,
(01:48):
his coaching style. A big reason I'm here, I got
to mention, is Nathaniel Hackett, who's here. Hacke and I
became really close friends for three excuse me, three years
in Green Bay, and I love him like a brother
and I believe in him, and I'm really happy to
be back working with him again. Obviously, Joe's got a
(02:08):
great track record so far. I've drafted some incredible players,
but it takes a system, and obviously Robert has the
right sauce. So I'm excited about getting to work with
him and Brick and Mark Kwan, former teammate of mine,
and it's a great staff. But you know old I'm
an old guy, so I want to be a part
of a team that could win it all, and I
(02:29):
believe that this is a place we can get that done.
Speaker 6 (02:32):
Oh here, Rich.
Speaker 7 (02:35):
Higher and Rich salmni ESPN. It's been about six weeks. Hey,
it's been about six weeks since you have said on
McAfee that you wanted to play for the Jets. So
I'm just curious. What was it like? This process lasted
a pretty long time, longer than people expected. What was
it like for you waiting the six weeks and was
there any point where you thought maybe that this trade
would not happen. And when did you know for sure
(02:56):
that you were going to be a Jet?
Speaker 5 (02:58):
I mean not really. I believe it was going to
happen the entire time, just a matter of I think,
waiting each other out. My intention coming out of the
darkness was to pursue this opportunity, and I enjoyed the
meeting with Woody and Christopher. Came out these two guys
hack and I just got a great feel with all
(03:22):
those guys about the possibility, and as I leaned into it,
getting back into some more strenuous workouts, I just really
believe that this is where I was supposed to be
a lot of things had to come together, and I
believe there was some major synchronization to make this happen.
But I'm excited about the opportunity here. I always believe
(03:42):
this was possible, and things moved pretty quickly on Monday,
and thankfully I'm here now.
Speaker 8 (03:50):
Aaron bruce Beck, NBC four, New York, Abris welcome, Thank you.
How driven are you to win for this fan base
which hasn't been to the playoffs since twenty ten, the
longest stretch in professional sports for the Ford different leagues
right now.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
I mean, it's exciting. Just have an incredible passionate fan base.
I saw that last year at Lambeau. Obviously, you know
about Firemanhead and you know his passion for the team.
I think that's an exciting draw to this, as well
as being a part of something special. I grew up
watching old VHS tapes of the Super Bowls and so
(04:30):
obviously I know about the guarantee and Broadway Joe. It's
been a while since then. I noticed walking in this
morning that that Super Bowl three trophy is looking a
little lonely.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
So and that's a quote. Hi there.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Judi Batista, who was in the room, spoke to Aaron
afterwards one on one. We'll play a little bit of
that a little bit later. That's a quote I think
that will linger for a while. He said that this
is a team with which he can win a championship,
and the Super Bowl three trophy fifty five years old,
is looking like.
Speaker 9 (05:06):
When I talked to Aaron after the press conference, he said, like,
how close do you think this team is to winning?
And he said, I think we are one of the
handful of teams that can win right now. So he
thinks they are ready to go. He's going to be
part of the offseason workouts starting tomorrow. He talked about
getting the team together for team building activities and doing
(05:28):
stuff in the city to get the group together.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
He is very excited.
Speaker 9 (05:33):
He referenced multiple times the roster that Joe Douglas has
put together, particularly the young players who have been on
this roster now for a year or two.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
He is very impressed with that.
Speaker 9 (05:43):
He said, Look, the Jets beat the Packers last year,
so they got an up close view of what the
Jets are capable of doing.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Obviously, last season didn't end.
Speaker 9 (05:51):
Well, but Rogers is really excited to get on the field.
He said, he is going to be a part of
the off season program as much as he can. He
knows that there is an adjustment period. He's very excited
to get started.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Yeah, and Judy, first off, great job working to that
delay right there.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Bad delay, Yeah, bad delay right there.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
But also one of the things that Rogers said, you know,
we really need to hang on was he said a
big reason why he's going to the Jets is his
relationship with offensive coordinating Nathaniel Hackett. They've been together for
three years in Green Bay.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
He said he loves him like a brother.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
So Rodgers coming annoying the system that Hackett rants, the
same system that they ran in Green Bay. Matt Lafleur
was the head coach there. Mike Laflour is the former
offensive coordinator with the New York Jets who Nathaniel Hackett
is replacing. So they want to kind of get that
relationship going. And I think he wants to show everybody
else the relationship that he has with Nathaniel Hackett, so
other players can buy into Nathaniel Hackett, because the last
(06:44):
memory have of Nathaniel Hackett was him being the head
coach of the Denver Broncos and things not going well there.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
So the fact that Aaron.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
Rodgers is going to be there in the offseason, he
says he wants to lead by example, to raise the
level of expectation. You know that some of the people
in Green Bay were saying, well, where was this you
know when you were in Green Bay. Well, you know
what it's now in New Jersey because he wants to
show everybody that he can win as an old man.
As he continued to say that he can win with
a new ball club. I mean, I just keep on
(07:11):
hearkening back to this reminds me so much of Tom
Brady leaving New England, going to Tampa Bay and winning
a championship in Tampa Bay. This is clearly what Aaron
Rodgers wants to do. He says he's only focusing on
playing this season, but he's leaving the door open as well.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Yeah, and raising the level of play and the level
of football everyone around him. That's something why Johnson said
at the beginning his introductory remarks, he said that Aaron
is going to make everyone around him better. Rogers, who
did speak to Judy afterwards. We'll play some of that
a little bit later. Is inside speaking to reporters right now,
off to the side, and he evidently just told the
writers about that Zach Wilson comment. Remember Zach Wilson asked
(07:49):
last year what happens if Rogers shows up? He says,
I'm going to make his life hell off the field
or make his life hell in practice.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
He said, quote, He's going to make my life.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Hell in practice, and I'm going to make his life
heaven off the field.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Woo Aaron Rod.
Speaker 10 (08:05):
That's good stuff.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
That's another reason to go, and we.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Thank Gvatisa fighting through what's felt like a ten second
delay there. Well done, Judy in form Park, Well done
Charles Davis as well his latest mock draft. In his
final mock Draft, version three point zero, it is Bryce
Young at one, Will Anderson at two, and then here's
the curve ball for you. Although this one is gaining
a little bit of steam. Harris Johnson not a defensive
(08:29):
player at three. Paris Johnson, the Ohio State tackle, potentially
Charles Davis going at three, Ian Rappid war Tom Pelliserra
live inside Union Station, our insiders joining us from Kansas City.
We've said for a while now the new GM Monnie
Austin fort would likely love to get out right Ian
if there's a run on quarterbacks, obviously someone would have
(08:50):
to want to get up to three for the Cardinals
to get out.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
What are we hearing there?
Speaker 10 (08:54):
Yeah, I would say the conversation really starts based on
what the Houston Texans do it too.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
If they take CJ.
Speaker 10 (09:00):
Stroud their quarterback of the future, then you know, my
guest just canvassing the landscape, Thomas, the Arizona Cardinals would
probably sit and pick. If Stroud is available at three,
then you're going to get several teams with interest and
perhaps we might see a trade Cardinals trade out they
accumulate picks. The Paris Johnson thought is certainly one that
has been gaining steam around the league. The Ohio State
(09:20):
tackle probably the safest, and let's say the consensus number
one tackle for most of the people we speak with,
would not be that maybe surprising a pick considering, you know,
making sure that Kyler Murray. Kyler Murray is in a
good spot in the future is paramount. This organization's only
something he would like. But for the Arizona Cardinals, yes
they would like to trade out, but of course that
(09:41):
all begins with what actually happens right before they go.
Speaker 11 (09:45):
And you also have to remember, in order to trade down,
somebody has to trade up, and generally speaking, those trades
up rarely occur if they're not four quarterbacks. And that's
what you're talking about, which is if it's CJ. Stroud
at number two, that potentially may limit the options for
Arizona to get out of number three. The other thing
to keep in mind why do we see so few
(10:07):
trades at all in the top ten is the cost
not just in terms of the picks to move up,
which can be substantial, especially if you're trying to jump seven, eight, nine,
ten spots, but also the money is so huge at
the top of the draft, not as big as it
was back in twenty ten, two thousand and nine, but
like it's still multimillion dollar jump just to move a
couple of spots here. So keep all that in mind
(10:29):
as Arizona examines its options, which may not entirely crystallize
andrew until they're on the.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Clock exactly depending on really what happens at two, and
depending on what everyone really does think about the quarterback
seeing I mean, we've spent months talking about im and
analyzing i've and writing about them, but what these teams
think about them, no one truly knows. So are these
quarterbacks gonna fall? I mean, are we going to get
(10:53):
like one, two, three four quarterback like people fought months ago?
Speaker 2 (10:56):
But that seems unlikely.
Speaker 10 (10:59):
It seems unlikely to me that we get one, two,
three four quarterbacks. Probably in more likely scenario is two,
maybe three. Obviously, depending on what the Houston Texas do
at number two, maybe three go in the top four,
and then you're gonna have one quarterback. Maybe it's Will Levis,
maybe it's Anthony Richardson. Maybe I guess it'd probably be
just one of those two. And if that happens, you
(11:20):
might see a quarterback if it's one of those two,
slip into the teens, and then it's gonna get really
really fascinating. Let's say it's Anthony richards and we know
that several of the teams in the teens have done
work on quarterbacks. From Troy Lyons, the Minnesota Vikings, from
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Obviously Seattle has number five, but
they also have a later pick as well. It's really
(11:42):
gonna be fascinating to see who decides to come up
for a quarterback. And the reason I say come up is,
rarely does.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Everyone just sit.
Speaker 10 (11:48):
If it's a quarterback, you think he's a part of
your future. Rarely are you patient. More likely you're impatient
to leap up and get your guy.
Speaker 11 (11:56):
And while there's really consensus and has been within the
league that Bryce Young is the number one quarterback and
consensus at CJ stru is the number two quarterback, you
talk to different people and they've I've got Will Levis
and Anthony Richardson in some cases even Hendon Hooker in
different orders. So it's going to depend not just on
which quarterback falls, but who down there potentially is going
to come up for him. You mentioned the Vikings. There
(12:17):
have been rumors about them making a big jump up.
I don't anticipate that happening unless there's some world in
which Bryce Young does not go number one overall, which
we all anticipate that he is going to to the
Carolina Panthers. But to your point, once those guys start
to reach into the teens, positional value comes into play,
and if you're a Seattle they've looked at all the quarterbacks,
(12:37):
they may not feel like we need to take one
at number five. The positional value to take one at
number twenty when Gino Smith is really on a one
year contract might make a whole lot more sense.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
There has been only one of the thirty two GMS
that has said with certainty, I will take player acts
at a certain position, and that was Andrew Berry in
Cleveland who said, if Will Anderson is there at seventy four,
I'm taking him at seventy four, which won't happen.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Would be a good pick, Yeah, it would be a
great pick.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
So let's figure out Jalen carter ian because the range
he could go is is pretty big.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
What are you hearing?
Speaker 10 (13:10):
I would say the range is probably somewhere from five
up a little bit past ten, and you're right. Definitely
one of the draft's biggest wild cards. Agent Jirozenhaus has
come out publicly and said, tell me about a week
ago or I don't know whatever that was. He feels
like a month ago that he's only having Carter visit
teams in the top ten because that is where he
believes he would go, and certainly that is a possibility
(13:31):
of the Seahawks at five. They've been all the homework
on him. You have the Raiders at seven, Falcons at eight,
Bears at nine, and obviously the Eagles, which would be
really really fascinating at ten. All of those teams have
done all the homework. But what Tom if he gets
to ten, does someone say that he goes You know what,
he's such a good player. Obviously with all the baggage,
we're just gonna trade up and take him. That's really
(13:53):
where it gets interesting to me.
Speaker 11 (13:54):
I don't see any scenario which he gets past the
middle of the first round. It just seems like the
value at the position and there really is no other
clear Sorry to bother you you, okay, I'm just checking
that ja Oly Carter is too talented and there's too
much scarcity in terms of that position for him to
drop beyond you know, if you get into the again
(14:15):
the middle of that first round of the draft. B
John Robinson is another interesting one. We talk about positional value.
He is one of the top prospects in this whole draft.
Running Backs generally do not have the positional value of
some other spots. But again, if you look down toward
the late teens the early twenties, there's a bunch of
teams there who could argue for a running back. He's
got a lot of big fans. But that's also one
of the untold stories every year in the draft, Andrew,
(14:36):
which is teams at some point are kind of crossing
off the guys they think will be gone. This is
the time of year why we get all the calls
from GMS and coaches and other people talking through the draft,
which is who potentially might fall that we weren't even
thinking of a couple of days ago. We might have
to do just that little bit.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Of extra work.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Yeah, b John Robinson has Rookie of the Year of talent.
He has all pro talent. So someone's going to take him.
Question is when how long is he going to be
waiting in that room? Thank you a rappaport, Tom Pelsero, gentlemen,
we appreciate it. Coming up, ho about Christian Gonzalez, how
early does he hear his name called? The Oregon corner
(15:13):
is standing by and he is joining us.
Speaker 12 (15:16):
Coming up, brought and separate Christian Gonzalez cornerback twenty two
first team All Pat twelve er stampas.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Once again, Gonzales.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Step for step with these outside receivers.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
He's one of the best corners in the draft, picked
off four passes last year for the Oregon Ducks. He
is already in Kansas City. He is going to walk
that red carpet tomorrow. Christian Gonzalez joins us now ahead
of the draft. Christian, have you thought about what that
moment is going to be like yet? When you hear
your name and you get up there and you give
the commissioner a hug?
Speaker 3 (15:59):
Well, I mean a lot, probably emotional, all a little bit.
Speaker 6 (16:04):
Got the side to the case my allergies that you.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Know, Wait, do you think the allergies are going to
get to you?
Speaker 6 (16:12):
I don't know they hate me yet, but we might get.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
It happens.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
Man, don't don't don't worry about that, and just say
you're in Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
You know there's a lot of mold in the air.
I'm from Missouri, so I do know that. But but Christian, you.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Know, how is how has this this process been leading
up to this moment? Like when you talk to these teams,
is there any one thing they want to talk to you?
Most about.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
They always talk to me about just being a lazy
back guy.
Speaker 6 (16:43):
I was that translated, but I was telling it's it's
anytime the lines. They know that, but they just want
to see how I comes and tell them that.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Well, yeah, because you're Christian, your laid back. You're leaning
back right now. You don't have the loudest voice here,
and that's kind of different for a corner, right, I mean,
corners are loud.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Corners get in your face.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
I know that's a cliche, but that's what these coaches
are used to coaching. Do you have to do something
to show them that you could be the loudest guy
in the room.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
Do you feel the need to.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
I don't never need to be the loudest in the room,
just as long as it's turned on anytime we do
anything competitive.
Speaker 6 (17:33):
I'm a different type of guy. So it just clicked
talking about it.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
It just clicks.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Christian.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Why the uptick internal interceptions once you transferred from Colorado
to Oregon?
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Yeah, just actually just finishing the play. I knew I
had great bass skills, great hands. I always trusted them.
Just finally finishing the play and I was able to make.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
Those work, all right, I know, you don't know where
you're going, Christian, I don't know if you're going three.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
But let's play the game here. The Cardinals do need
a corner.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Your brother in law, David Blow is a Cardinal as
right now, remember from the Lions obviously, but he is
on the Cardinals roster. Have you wrapped your head around
the possibility of playing with your brother in law.
Speaker 6 (18:31):
I have.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
We talked about it as a whole family. It's been crazy,
the fact that's definitely a possibility.
Speaker 6 (18:40):
It would be really cool. We'll see what happens.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
And there he is with your sister Melissa, who obviously
we saw in Hard Knocks a couple of years ago
and Olympian and that was such a great moment with
him and his teammates watching in Detroit.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Does everyone want you there?
Speaker 1 (18:58):
Because I would think, like that's kind of weird, like you.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Come home like hey, what did my brothers say? The
other way around?
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Like, hey, like, is is it a totally good thing
to be there?
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Definitely, I mean it's a totally good thing to be anywhere,
but but yeah, with him, it be it'd be crazy.
Speaker 6 (19:16):
Definitely, someone that could lean on you, show me.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
He hadn't been in the league, show me the ways,
but it would be it'd be real fun.
Speaker 6 (19:26):
Well smack talk.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
All right, well, possibility.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
They're sitting there at three, you're sitting there also in
front of a nice big head and shoulder side of
the wall behind you.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Tell us what you're doing with them, Christian.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
Yeah, here head and shoulders of the P ANDNG line.
They are just helping us highlight really are our hair
styles and just making sure everything look great for tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Definitely gonna look good.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
I remember you told the story a couple of years
ago the draft was in Dallas and someone said to you, man,
that could be you one day on that stage in
that building. And now you are in Kansas City with
a chance of getting on that stage tomorrow night night
number one. Christian Gonzales, Good luck to you, sir, have
fun to God, love Christian, Thank you, Christian Gonzales. Everyone
corner from Ore again. Anthony Richardson is also in Kansas City.
(20:13):
Daniel Jeremiah called him a lottery tickets Alaska's coach of Florida,
Philly Napier.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Just how big that payoff would be?
Speaker 12 (20:24):
Gusika Tounson, Enron Louse Ritchridson going the House touchdown Anthony
Richardson Quarterback SEC All Freshman Team.
Speaker 13 (20:37):
Anthony Richardson, and you see what he's capable of doing.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
One of the best of.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
One of those fascinating prospects, one of the most fascinating.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
Quarterbacks we have seen come along in a long long time.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Anthony Richardson on our mos anywhere from four DJ has
him going to Indianapolis down to twenty two. How about
that learning behind Lamar Jackson at Baltimore. Who knows he
has that much talent? This guy saw the talent up close.
Head coach of the Florida Gators, Billy Napier joints us
coach takes for taking the time. DJ called your quarterback
(21:11):
a lottery ticket like Matt if it hits, lookout, how
big would that payoff be if this lottery ticket hits
for an NFL team?
Speaker 14 (21:22):
Well, I mean you're talking about generational talent, right, I
mean the guy completely destroyed every record from a measurement
standpoint at the NFL Combine. And you know, you spend
time with Anthony, You're going to learn that this guy's
extremely bright. He was a great teammate, you know, voted
team captain by his peers and really just a humble
(21:44):
guy that you know is twenty years old.
Speaker 8 (21:46):
Right.
Speaker 14 (21:46):
The potential here is limitless, So no surprise to me
that he's once the interview process is started. This guy
has vaulted up the boards. And we're really proud of Anthony.
That was a tough decision for him to decide to leave,
but he will always be a gay and we're extremely proud.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
Coach. Can can Anthony play it?
Speaker 4 (22:09):
Any type of system will work. Will NFL team have
to kind of scheme what they do to his overall strengths?
Speaker 2 (22:16):
No, I think.
Speaker 14 (22:17):
I think mentally the guy has no there's no issue
there at all. I mean, you'd be remiss if he
didn't talk about the athletic ability. I mean, I can
think he can go throw to throw with any any
player in the drafts. But this guy is a legitimate
runner at six foot four, two hundred and fifty pounds.
I mean he can, he can. He's a one play
(22:40):
touchdown player. You know, this guy can go seventy five
yards for a touchdown. So I think you're seeing more
of the college game translate to the NFL with these
athletic quarterbacks, and Anthony is a part of that kind
of that next generation of players. So I think you
build around what he can do. And there's that's a
long list of things.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Coach tell me about the leadership camp. Wolf is about
to join us as a great piece right now. In
NFL dot Com, there's a story in there about after
you guys lost to Georgia didn't go well, he got
up in front of the team and he kind of asked, like,
why are we here?
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Are you guys going to do this? Are we going
to do this?
Speaker 1 (23:15):
And the quote was if y'all really don't want to
do this, this is Richardson talking to the team. Let
me know right now because I will quit this bleep
and be a firefighter.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
What kind of leader is Anthony Richardson? Well, I think
much like much like he is a player.
Speaker 14 (23:35):
You know, he's a young man, right so I think
he's grown in that regard significantly last year with the experience,
you know, so, but I think Anthony is from right
here in Jamesville, Florida. You know, he's had a unique
experience COVID and his freshman year twenty twenty twenty one.
Speaker 6 (23:53):
Was a unique year.
Speaker 14 (23:54):
And then here we go first year starter, And I
thought he really grew as a leader as the season went,
much like he grew as a football player. So I
think this guy very capable. He can connect with anybody,
and I think he has the character. He cares about
the team, and I don't think there's going to be
(24:14):
any issue with leadership. If anything, going to be a
strength for Anthony.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Coach, you know, you've got extensive work with quarterbacks. You've
done it for years. You know, that's what you do
when Anthony gets to the next level.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
What type of.
Speaker 4 (24:26):
Position coach do you think he needs in terms of
relating to him to get the most out of him.
Speaker 14 (24:34):
You know, Anthony just needs continuity and system. He needs structure,
he needs routine. You know, I think more importantly, what
other quarterbacks are in the room too, to go with
the coach. I think there's some of that as well.
But you know, I think Anthony is a guy who
responds well to lots of different teachers. You know, he
(24:54):
certainly had three different quarterback coaches in his time at Florida,
and I think Anthony would benefit from experience. A guy
that's been around the league, that's been under stands what's required.
You know, throughout the off season, and certainly within the season.
So Anthony's gonna respond well to about any coach.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
Billy last thing for it.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Obviously he's not the only Gator who might hear his
name called. You might have Osirens, torret Oh, Cyrus, Torrance Bega,
pardon his name called Tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
There's Garage, there's dexter.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Overall, what is this rap name for the Florida program,
especially if you hear a couple of names called early
Tomorrow Night.
Speaker 14 (25:31):
Well, it's a really good group, certainly a group that
cares about Florida, that took great pride and representing the
state of Florida in the University of Florida. But you know,
these guys were in our first year. They provided leadership,
they provided example, and we're proud of them, you know.
And really these are always good days, especially when you've
(25:53):
been around a young man for a long time like Savo,
you've been through the entire process. That's probably one of
the more gratifying things that you get to experience as
a coach. So it's a good group and we're looking
forward to see where they end up at.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Big Night for Florida coming up tomorrow. Billy Napier head
coach of the Gators. We appreciate your time man, thanks
for joining.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Thanks coach, Thank you guys.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
Have a great day you too as we continue in
NFL now and I mentioned that article the Cam Wolf wrote,
highly recommend it. I read it this morning. It's long,
it is worth your time. So many good anecdotes from
cam Wolf on this quarterback, who, like I said, Daniel
Jeremiah called a lottery ticket and the payoff will be huge.
There's the story there about saying, hey, I will be
(26:38):
a firefighter.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
I'll go back to doing that.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
There's great stuff in there Cam as well about his
relationship with his little brother Corey, where he's almost like
a son to Anthony.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Yeah, Andrew, thank you for the love.
Speaker 13 (26:54):
By the way, it's a lot of details in that story,
but the first thing you think about with Anthony Richardson
is how he looks. I'm telling you, if you stand
next to him, he looks bigger than you think.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
He throws the ball further.
Speaker 13 (27:05):
Than you think. And he told me I'm not human.
I'm liking alien. I don't think I can compare it
to anyone. And I also saw his humility as he
worked on the field with his mechanics, his accuracy, to
try to erase some of those question marks people may
have about him. And he's made growth in those areas.
And you talked about some of the stories, whether it
be him inside the Florida locker room crying, relating to
(27:27):
his team, or.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
With his brother.
Speaker 13 (27:29):
But I also want to share the final nugget that
he told me about what he wants in this new coach.
He said, I don't want to be baby. I want
somebody that's going to push me and get the most
out of me and get that greatness out of me.
And I think people around the league see that potential
in them. I'm here in the Carolina Panthers facility. I
actually asked their GM Scott Fitterer, about his scouting report
(27:49):
on Richardson, and he said, he is very smart. He's
further along growth wise than maybe we initially thought, and
he is going to be able to contribute to a
team and be a very productive player. So he may
not be the guy here, but there are people around
the league who are very high on his potential.
Speaker 1 (28:05):
That line there about being an alien right at the
top of your story again the stories on NFL dot Com.
So he may not be the guy there you are
in Carolina. No alien landing tomorrow. We still think Bryce Young.
Speaker 13 (28:19):
Andrew I want to paint a picture for you. They
just came off the practice facility for Veteran Mini Camp
about an hour ago and owner David Tepper is sitting
there watching practice. This is pouring down rain there and
Frank W. Reich talked to us about thirty minutes ago.
He raved about the support that Temper has given them
throughout the process. They had a meeting with him, Scott's Fitterer,
Reich and Temper today and they told them who their
(28:41):
number one pick is. And I talked to Scott Fitterer
earlier today who said there was about a five second
meeting I had with Reike Monday telling him who my
pick is. He told me who his pick is. And
now we're all on the same page. So they have
a consensus. But they've made it clear they're not going
to make that announcement until Thursday at eight pm. I
continue to hear talking with people here and across the league.
(29:02):
Is expected to be Alabama's Bryce Young. Final note from Reich.
He discussed the characteristics and traits that he and Fitterer
looked for in a quarterback. He discussed the grit, the
playmaking ability, the X factor, a lot of the elements
that sound like some young quarterback that is eligible to
be picked.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
Yes, you know they're in the common draft. Era has
never been an Alabama player going number one overall. I
know that's absurd, but that's true. Common Draft ara since
nineteen sixty seven. Kis no, I know why, it's really
it's true. Hadi's like double checked it fifteen times. It's bonkers,
my hand, eye and Philip. NFL Now is a production
