Speaker 1 (00:04):
NFL power rankings is a production of the NFL in
partnership with I heart radio. Welcome, welcome in everybody, to
power rankings, brought to you by energizer. I am Colleen Wolf,
with Dan Hanss. What a week it was. Week two
(00:28):
did not disappoint. Um. How you feeling right now after
the rankings? Where are you up all night doing them,
I have to say, colleen, and great to see you.
Great to see you as well. I feel power in
a way I've never felt before. I think I've reached
the stage where the power rankings and Dan Hanss have
(00:52):
become one and I am now the power rankings, and
so there's an invincibility factor as I enter today's episode
that I think will potentially be an issue for you
in terms of Bait, but for the listener, yes, I
feel power. I think that's bad news for all of
us here at NFL media, but for your children. Love
(01:14):
that you're confidence for this episode of this show. I
think it's going to be good insight on the Third
League of thirty two. Okay, so Dan is feeling good
on this Tuesday. The tug boat is docked, ready to go,
and let's take a look at your top five. This
was a crazy, crazy week. Top Five here. Alright, Bill's
number one still holding steady in that topic. God, like literally,
(01:41):
they are unstoppable. Right now, hold on, we're gonna talk
about that. Let me just get through this. Sure no
one is going to knock them down all the spot.
They're going to probably be there for the entire whatever year.
So we got bill's chiefs, number two, Eagles. Eagles number
three is okay, there it is that one. They are
(02:05):
at four, down one spot, and then the packers at five,
up three. So before we get to the eagles, and
that's the only reason this podcast exists, is for you
to celebrate this moment, which I understand, because this is
exciting times in Philadelphia. I get it. Listen, I have
told you time and time and again that the attention
(02:25):
it's making me nervous. Um. But last night was a
really good game, but also the bills played as well
and they absolutely smacked the titans there in your number
one spot, and it's not even close, I would assume. Yeah,
it's almost like the bills have reached the state of
their own power and it's it's they're in their own category.
(02:46):
They're in the power rankings of themselves. So it's weird
to even put them because the difference between one and two,
and the chiefs are a great team, it feels vast
right now. That's how good the bills are playing through
two weeks. You embarrass the defending champion Rams in the
season opener. Okay, that can happen. UH, the first game
of the year is always a little weird. It's like
(03:07):
eighty degrees. It's so fi stadium. You know, weird things happen.
But then to have the Monday night game against the titans,
and we understand the titans, even though they were the
number one seed last year, they've lost some players. They're
not the same team. But to absolutely hang a forty
one seven bomb on a Tennessee team that is typically
well coached and hard nosed just shows that the bills are, just,
(03:30):
like I said, in a class of their own. And
the and with the titans as an example, you're trying
to figure out where to drop the titans. I I
dropped them, but not too far, because I don't think
like what happened to the titans and the rams is
very much different than that would happened with twenty seven
other teams right now in the League. The bills are
just playing at a different speed and the titans right now,
(03:52):
you have them, you drop them three spots to twenty.
But I just think that the fact that the bills
are able to play this way and they're even down
a couple of players without Davis, I mean they had
some injuries on the defense. They still don't have tredavious white.
They had the scary situation with their cornerback that had
(04:13):
an ambulance come out on the field to take him off.
He's gonna be all right, thank God, Um, because that
was that was really scary to watch. But this is
a team that seems to be able to overcome anything
and really nothing is going to slow them down. Well,
this is where we get in trouble, though, Connie, because
it is week two and there will be a time.
(04:34):
You know, it's impossible to see that now for any
of us, there will be a time where they end
up in a close game and they will have to
show their ability to rise above a challenge. There could
be more injuries. You don't know. It's not gonna be
this easy, but the bills and their fans just enjoy it. Well,
last because this is very rare to see a team
that's just so clearly above their opponents and I thought
(04:56):
it was, you know, interesting to see Josh Allen, who
has a new offensive coordinator and play caller, and Ken
Dorsey H and during the summer when we're trying to
think of like, you know, potential issues for the bills
like well, Brian Dables gone, so maybe there will be
a learning curve that no, like we had to come
up with potential issues, and that's the thing. And Stefan Diggs,
(05:18):
and take this from a two thousand twenty one season
Stefan diggs fantasy owner, he is such a better player
through these two games that he ever was with Alan
last year. He's much closer to the version of Diggs
who was absolutely dominant the bills. And we're not even
getting into their defense. It's an incredible the way they're
playing all around. The Bills Defense has forced seven turnovers
(05:42):
through two games. And then the offense. They've outscored their
their opponents seventy two to seventeen. Seventy two to seventeen,
and that was against the defending Super Bowl Champs and
the number one seed from the A F C last year.
Who obviously don't look anything like a number one seed
yet through two weeks. So the bills. They're up top
at number one. But I want to get to the
(06:02):
team that has got rocketed up the rankings. Where did
they start the year? I want to say they were
in the around fifteen. They got up to ten last week,
so they were in the top ten entering week two.
And now the eagles. Yes, they're at number three and yes,
they absolutely earned it. That was one, okay, so fourteen
to three and two weeks. That's obviously they're making a
(06:24):
move here and they deserve it. A lot of it
Um goes back to jalen hurts, who, the way he's
looked in the pocket throwing the ball has been just unbelievable,
the progression he's showing. I think that's surprised me and
a lot of people that he's looked this good passing
the ball, because he's really impressive. Connie, and I want
(06:45):
to hear your thoughts on this running the ball and
how hard he runs, and it actually makes me a
little nervous when he stays up to get those extra yards.
But he's been so dominant from the pocket in the
first two weeks it's been really UH special to watch.
He's thrown for over three yards out a touchdown in
that game on Monday night and in two scores. Like
(07:06):
the question coming into the year about Jalen hurts and
really the Eagles in general, was Ken Jalen Take that
next step as a passer, sort of like we've talked
about with Lamar Jackson, but we saw it in very
small flashes Um last year as a passer. It was
all about his legs. They really needed to get that,
get that passing game going, and I think Howie Roseman
(07:28):
did an excellent job in the off season bringing in
a j brown. This week Davante Smith was way more
involved than he was week one. And then when you
have I just can't remember the last time that the
eagles had a dominant number one wide receiver like this
and a great cornerback like sleigh in the secondary, like
(07:49):
on the same roster at the same time like that
is something that I have to go way back, because
I guess it would be t o as a wide
receiver and maybe Assante Samuel. That's pretty good. That's a
pretty good one too, right there. And that team went
to the Super Bowl and hung tight, hung tough with
the Patriots Dynasty. Um, and you're right. That is that's
kind of a sneaky great combo that any big time
(08:11):
team needs. You need that that number one wide receiver,
which a J Brown is, and you need that playmaker
in the back end of a defense that can negate
a star player on the opposing offense, like Justin Jefferson,
who was largely erased in this game. And you talked
about it a lot, Connie, last week, both on this
program and on around the NFL. You you you had
(08:32):
an issue with Devonta Smith not being in the offense
as much, and then I looked at the way Jalen
hurt spread the ball around. Dallas Goddard, five catches, Smith, seven,
Quez Watkins to uh in a touchdown, a j brown
five for sixty nine. Um, you didn't know. I don't
think it was a great game plan by Minnesota's defense,
but that also I don't want to take away by
how great this attack of Philadelphia can be with a
(08:55):
dominant offensive line behind it. Yeah, it was. It was
really interesting to see the eagles play this way, dominate
the vikings in prime time at home against a team
that last week week one, everybody was raving about Kevin O'CONNELL.
They loved this new head coach and what he was
able to do. And then, I mean, everything kind of
(09:16):
fell apart for the Vikings. So this was this was was,
but number three, number three in the rankings for the eagles.
Was that difficult for you to put them up that high?
Did you? You just the top ten? I don't have
them right there. I don't have any issues with the eagles.
I don't. I don't have a dog in the fight
in the NFC east as a fan, if that's what
(09:37):
you're insinuating. So I am. I'm totally confident putting them
at three. and Uh yeah, Kirk cousins was a disaster
against that eagles pass rush which which is all over
him and Darius slay. That's an all pro performance. Okay,
so we got let's go to the packers here at
five and uh listen, I guess this guy is not falling,
falling in Green Bay at this point. Well, that's why
(10:00):
I kept them in the top ten last week and
I was getting some heat from the twitter verse. Twitter,
of course, is the playground of idiots, as we know,
but we do love the idiots, because it's not just
idiots on twitter's fine who we love on twitter, but
let's stay focused. Um. The Green Bay packers obviously have
(10:23):
work to do in terms of figuring out their offensive
passing game, but I thought the game against the bears,
although not an overwhelming effort, the win, just showed how
we forget how good Aaron Jones is. We forget that
a j dillon could be a starter on twenty five
other teams potentially. and they're both behind Aaron Rodgers, in
(10:45):
front of an offensive line that is starting to get healthy.
And you you put it together and it's like yeah,
the packers, especially playing in the NFC north, are gonna
have time to figure out this passing game and you imagine,
with one of the greatest quarterbacks ever, that they will
get to a point of proficiency and then all you
gotta do is combine that with an amazing run game
and then a very good defense. The packers are going
(11:07):
to be okay. I said it last week. Nothing changed
about how I feel about them. I pump them up
to the top five because their top five NFL team
and they got the w feeling good about Green Bay.
The running game look great for them. Four fumbles in
two games is a little concern. I'm not too worried
about that, but they do have the bucks coming up
this week in week three Sunday, so that's something to
(11:30):
keep an eye on. So that's the top five. But
we still have not seen the dolphins. Where where might
they land? And Dances is rankings? Find out when we
come back. Now I want to take a look at
(12:00):
your team's five through ten. Here you have the ram
at six. They are down two spots. You got the
chargers at seven, also down two spots. The dolphins shooting
up five spots to the number eight. I want to
talk about them niners at nine and then the ravens
(12:20):
at ten. So with the dolphins after that insane game,
I mean Mike mcdaniel is doing all sorts of things.
How could you not root for to uh? It's just
seeing that offense actually work like this at such a
high level. I mean the fact that they're at number
eight in your rankings, up five spots the two. It's like,
(12:40):
how could you not root for two people act like
TWAS this huge underdog. He was number five overall pick
everyone dunking on him. Since he's been in the Leagu
so he's overcome some criticism from the outside in this
game and, uh, that is a special moment for members
of two and on Um, who were able to step
(13:01):
out of the shadows of the dark web and celebrate
what was an outrageous performance. I mean, they scored touchdowns
on their last four drives of the game in the
fourth quarter, with two of throwing a touchdown pass in
each of those and I think it's crazy. It's not
always gonna work like this, but this is a situation
with tyreek hill and Jalen waddle where, in a shootout,
(13:24):
if your secondaries having issues like Baltimore was, you're you're done.
If you have an accurate quarterback who's thrown well and
getting protected, waddle and Hill are gonna keep getting open
and the team's gonna keep scoring. So I think this
was the proof of concept game for Mike mcdaniel and
the dolphins offense and to a deserves absolutely although I
don't think he's somebody that we need to cheer on
(13:46):
like he's Rudy Ruddiger. UHBODY. I'm just saying. It's like,
why do we need to make it more than what
it is? He was under he's been a disappointing on balance. UH,
first round pick who now had a huge game. It
doesn't mean now he's a superstar. I think there's this
like I'm just just a little bit. It doesn't mean
(14:06):
now this is who too is either. Like he has
been an up and down guy in his career. Let's
see if he could stack some games. But that was awesome.
Is this in the A F C East biased? I
mean I moved them up into the top ten. The
dolphins are in the top ten. They're ahead of the
forty niners there, ahead of let's see, who else is
on here? There actually too. So your point. That shows that, Um,
(14:31):
I'm a beacon of integrity, because I could have easily
Pooh pooed it and kept the dolphins and the teens.
But no, you need to respect what they've done. In
Week one they shut down the UH defense offense of
the Patriots, and maybe that wasn't such a big task.
And the reason I had him in our twilight zone
at number thirteen going into this week was because they
(14:52):
only scored thirteen points against the Patriots in week one.
So now they go and they blow up on offense.
So we've seen the ceiling on both sides of the
ball and it's very high, very interesting to see what
happens uh in week three with the dolphins. This is
such an interesting team. There's someone that could immediately wreck
postseason plans. I think, just as a week to observation,
(15:14):
way too early observation, just looking into what teams could
really spice things up later if they continue on this path.
But keep in mind they're playing the bills this week.
So that's what I mean. This is this is they
did a great job winning a shootout with Lamar, who
was playing out of his mind himself in that game.
The bills are a whole other thing. Like all right, Connie,
(15:37):
if the dolphins beat the bills yes week, oh my God,
dolphins might be number one in the power ranking. Stop it,
that's not happening. But I'm saying that is it's gonna
be very hard for anyone who does an exercise like this,
and you know there is only one power rankings, it's
these are and everybody else just stopped at a certain point,
(15:58):
but they haven't yet um the dolphins it. You know,
I didn't need to I wasn't going to say that,
but it is adorable. It's adorable. I know, I love it.
That's great, Um. You are the authority, though, and the
authority hast doing it. Niners at nine, up two spots.
(16:20):
Jimmy g running the show now. Are you optimistic that
they're going to stay in the top ten? Now? Jimmy
g running the show. Yes, I had him at number
three to open the season and then that weird game
in the rain in Chicago. You didn't know to make
sense of him. Then it just you know, it's brutal
what happened, obviously with Trey Lance, who deserved a chance
(16:43):
to prove himself, and now he goes for ankle surgery.
He's gonna miss another year in the San Francisco is
now in the place of Man. NEXT SUMMER WE'RE gonna
be in the same situation again with this kid not
having any idea whether or not he's a real, big
time player. But that's for down the road. For now
they're just extremely fortunate their season is not over. Like
(17:03):
there is a there was at one point. There were
interviews that Kyle Shannon was giving in July, like it
was great having Jimmy G on this team. We went.
We wish him the best. We're sorry it didn't work out,
but it's gonna be great whatever happens next. And then
he stays and everyone's like, oh, that's nice as a
security blanket. And now in week three he is the
(17:24):
leader of the offense again. And not for nothing, and
this is something we've talked about Connie when he had
that qb sneak for the touchdown on Sunday. Way those
players reacted. They wanted Jimmy G in the lineup all
along and you and you could say that's unfair to
to tray lance or or the forts. We're not. We're
ignoring the warning signs here. But this team, I feel
(17:46):
like it's going to be a better, steadier group with
Jimmy g leading it. And it's a bummer for Lance,
but in terms of the niners chances of winning a
super bowl, I think they're the odds. Went up with it.
They're so lucky that this worked out the way, the
way that the universe kind of it seemed like the
universe was con firing against them. They were way too open,
(18:07):
even at the combine about their plans with moving Jimmy
G and moving on to tray lance while he was
still on the roster, and then he was like, this
is strange quarterback that was there just hanging out and
they didn't know what to do with the only reason
this happened is the timing of Jimmy g shoulder surgery
right led to his trademarket disappearing. Otherwise it's a rap
(18:27):
and it's a rap for San Francisco there in the
powering is right now. But but they're not. Instead, Jimmy
G is about to get his first practice reps with
the one since January. We were so happy watched that
replay again. How the offensive linemens or smacking him in
the helmet and laughing together. It was like old buddies,
old war buddies, seeing each other again. Yeah, I'm excited
(18:49):
to see the game that they have coming up against
the broncos. Old Jimmy G and Russell Wilson on the
same field like that. I know we hate to see that,
especially this early in the secene. Well, that's not what
you told me privately before the show, but okay, probably
into a microphone. Okay, eleven through fifteen, your teams for
week three. We got the Vikings falling four spots at eleven,
(19:11):
the bengals falling three at twelve, the saints down one
at thirteen, the cardinals up eight spots at fourteen. We're
gonna talk about them, and then the raiders down one
at fifteen. So the cardinals. Um, it's a pretty big
jump for a team that didn't look great for most
of that game. This is again, like we talked about
(19:33):
last week, this time of season there's gonna be big
jumps and and big free falls as we kind of
figure out where these teams fit in. Because how could
you have the cardinals anywhere but in the twenties after
the way they played in week one against the chiefs?
They just looked unprepared and frankly that's how they looked
for the first half of this game as well against
(19:53):
the raiders. But it was a reminder to people like
me and others who were like not out on Kyler Murray,
but we're starting to think maybe that extension will the
cardinals live to regret it. And then you see what
he did in this game and he's just a singular
one of one talent and athlete at quarterback and it's
(20:15):
just like, okay, they need to be taken seriously because
he's on the field. Um, so as much as I
haven't liked what I saw in four quarters in week one,
in the first two quarters, a week too, what happened
in the third, fourth and overtime. It made you sit
up and say, okay, keep the cardinals in the middle
of the pack, in the middle of power. They got,
they have the talent right there, but they just can't
(20:36):
keep relying on these heroics to pull them out of
these situations. Maybe that's what the maybe that's what Kyler
Murray team is. Maybe that makes it a fun, maybe
ultimately hollow experience, because that's maybe not how you win
super bowls. But they're always going to be entertaining because
they have him. It went healthy in the middle of things.
He also has to stay healthy, which has been an
(20:56):
issue in the least couple of years. That's such a tease, though,
if you're a cardinals fan, that's like, I can't say
the equivalent of what the term is that I'm thinking about,
but it's someone, it's something boy like in your life
that you know is uh, he doesn't want to go,
he doesn't want to commit Um, he just hang out
(21:17):
all the time. Right. The cardinals are kind of that,
a fudge boy. Yeah, and if you're a cardinals man.
It's like, okay, more inappropriate actually actually saying take that out.
We cannot, it's too late. Um. Yeah, so I hate
the fact that we just said that. I mean, by
the way stuff. Can I also say this first round pick,
(21:40):
Isaiah Simmons, who has been not great um to step
up and force that fumble that led to the Byron
Murphy Junior pick up and scoop and scoreing overtime. That's
big for his confidence. I thought it was an interesting
cliff kingsbury quote. After on Monday, I believe it was
he can be as good as he wants. It's commitment
(22:01):
to football all day, every day. We've seen the flashes.
Like it's very clear. They're like, Isaiah Simmons, you're not
working hard enough, just like Kyler Murray. In that bizarre
UH contract clause, like they need he's asking for buying
from another first round pick, which again tells you that
it's a little weird. It's still a wobbly house in Arizona.
That's my thing. That seems like a culture thing. That
(22:23):
seems like a coaching thing. That seems like the guys
could be way better on the field, because the talent
is there but they're just not maybe applying themselves right
and also, you know, cliff using that moment to kind
of call him out and put that quote out there,
although he's been pretty open about his frustrations with Simmons.
But anyway, that's all negative stuff. For one week at least,
the cardinals kind of got their house in order and Um,
(22:46):
it was a fun game to watch. Another incredible comeback
on Sunday. What a week it was, honestly, and those
Primetime Games showed up. Overcoming Twenty three to seven, I
mean that fourth quarter deficit to force over time with
two point conversion at Zeros and then like that was
just a crazy. The next Gen stats on the first
two point conversion, Murray had the first of two. They
(23:09):
needed a touchdown in two and a touchdown in the
two to force overtime. I think he ran close to
ninety yards according to next gen stats, before scampering in
with those, you know, little little scampering feet of Kyler
with the big old helmet. It is really amazing to
watch him run. His whole body kind of flails around,
his arms and everything too. He puts it. I mean
(23:30):
that is a full body effort when he is running
and scrambling. It's all and it's a it's a magical thing. Okay,
so there we have it. The cardinals right there, ranked
at fourteen. But when we come back we're going to
talk about the two top teams. You need some kyler
sounds like that runner, kind of a roadrunner thing like that.
(23:52):
Speaking of road runners. Well, that's good. Trouble Henry. Maybe
we're gonna talkhols in sight. It's going up. Hey, Dan dot,
(24:20):
do a little power moves presented by energizer. I feel
like we're gonna do it either way. Here we go
from week two. The lions up ten spots at sixteen.
Look at them move. We got the cardinals up eight
spots at fourteen. The Eagles jumped seven up to the
number three spot in your power rankings, which is still
(24:41):
kind of crazy. Holy Healthy Eagles are at three. Uh.
Then the jets up seven and the cowboys up six
spots at one, with cooper rush manning the show. But
the Lions, okay, up ten spots at sixteen. I saw
a great stat over the weekend that the lions have
scored thirty five or more points in each of their
(25:03):
opening two games. For the first time since nineteen seven days,
they're doing things and I love it. Yes, that that
nugget was included in the NFL dot com power rankings
by Old Zeuser U. I'm not saying that's where you
got it, but you could find that nugget there as well,
and you know I plagiarize you, though. I should just
read and then I just stay silent and we're out
(25:26):
in twelve. Um, the lions. I almost looked at it
just now when you were just going down. Is that
overly generous? But now it's not. They deserved to be
viewed as a certified frisky team, the Lions, because we
saw how great the eagles looked in week two. Uh,
the lions hung with them in their building and a
(25:47):
thirty five loss in week one and then just took
it to Washington. They had the commanders and they really
took it to the commanders. Um Unbelievable. Their ability to
just carve up Washington through the air and then also
do what they wanted on the ground. Owned it was
just a great offensive performance, and I don't think this
(26:07):
is flukey. I think if Jared Goff gets protected with
the weapons around him, our old friend, offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson. Yes,
he deserves credit for what's going on here. Of course,
due Staley, the assistant coach, that whole coaching stuff. So yes,
maybe there's some residual hard knocks, love and adoration I
have for this team, but at the same time I
(26:28):
don't think this has been a team playing over its head.
I think they're going to compete and win games this year.
Alman Raw St Brown what a game looks like a
potential number one wide receiver, and deandre swift had eighty
seven totally awards on a touchdown on seven touches in
this game. He is knocking on the door of the
superstar club. Yeah, so it was an offensive breakout for
(26:49):
the lions mentioned in the first half. It was another
great and they started out with two home games, which
is perfect because all those great lions fans, they just
want something to cheer for and then you get to
home games and two entertaining games in a W and
week two. So yes, they deserve to be up ten spots.
(27:10):
I feel good about that ranking. I think that, let's see,
cowboys fans are not going to be happy that the
lions are one to three, four, five spots but that's
exactly what I'm talking about. There's this idea that we
need to keep the Lions in there were losers bubble,
and it's like, I think they're better. I think we're
seeing that they're better and that that's just the way
(27:31):
it is. Don't get don't look at the lions like
the two thousand eighteen lions, looking at them as the
Dan Campbell Grit Warriors. I like the ear a lions. Ally,
you are you're bringing them along in many ways. Um,
that's what everybody says about Dan, but mostly the lions,
the football team. Right. Okay, so they are sixteen in
your power rankings for this week. Let's go now to
(27:54):
teams sixteen through twenty. We got the lions passionate about
what actually matters to Dan. What what makes him tip? UH,
the Detroit foot ball team in the NFL. That's it.
That's the only thing that actually matters to me. He's
dead inside. The broncos at seventeen. They're down one spot.
You got the Patriots up five, at eight, okay, and
(28:17):
then the two and o giants sitting at Nineteen in
the power rankings. They're up two spots and the titans
down three at twenty. The A F C South is
Um a hot mess right now. So at this point,
with the titans coming off that horrendous loss to the bills,
how much of this ranking is sort of a factor
(28:41):
of past performants to kind of keep them up here
twenty a little bit? You know why? The reason I
didn't bury him after Monday night, which again it was ugly.
They lost by thirty five points. I think the bills
scored Um five straight touchdowns after the game was tied.
So yes, it wasn't it wasn't good, but I also
factor in the opponent and I don't think anybody was
(29:02):
going to buffalo in that setting on Monday night and
winning or even potentially competing. So it shows again that
the titans, even last year when they were the number
one seed, are not a superpower. But now they're a
team that is very clearly missing a j brown, their
former number one wide receiver. You see that on the
field and I thought it was telling that when this
(29:22):
team was down a lot of points, that kept on
giving it to Derrick Henry. Is If that's gonna do it,
and we don't even know Derrick Henry is the same
guy right now. So per carry. I think you could
definitely make the case and come at me a little
bit and say you should have the titans lower based
on what they've done in the first two weeks. They
blew the game to the giants in week one, but
maybe there is just a residual amount of respect for
(29:45):
what they've been able to do. They still have the
head coach, they still have the quarterback, Henry is still
in the field. Maybe they get some things figured out,
but it's been a bad start. So you're grading teams
sort of on a curve. Who Play the bills? Yeah,
a little bit saying. There are many facts. I don't
share all the secret I'M gonna press out. But yes,
(30:06):
if you're playing an absolute powerhouse and you're putting an
impossible let's face it, like the NFL scheduling. Gods don't
want me saying this, but you know I am the
bad boy of NFL media. They were sent there to
be slaughtered. It's been shifted officially. Um, it's shifts, it
moves around. They were sent to western New York to
be slaughtered. That was entertainment. That was some Roman colisseum stuff, uh,
(30:29):
and that's what happened. So everybody got what they wanted,
except for titans fans. Nobody what you want. Everybody want
all the bills. Oh, let's eat some wings, let's send
our viral videos out, let's let's enjoy what a great
team that says. Jim Kelly's on the field. It's a party.
I'm kind of cooled to two like but let's not,
let's not lose sight of the fact that the titans
(30:49):
were sent up there to be sent home. Nobody wants
to go on that trip. Nobody wants it's true. It's true.
So zip him up and send him back to Tennessee,
forty one to seven was not a great loss. Um,
all right, we're just going to move on. Typically not. Okay,
teams that fell. Uh, we're gonna call them the power failures.
(31:13):
That's what these are here, um teams. So it's not
a power failure. They're all power failures. They're a failures
for some reason. That for one week. You know, this week.
We gotta tell the Energizer, rubber stamp, that that seems
like a personal text. They're down eleven spots. I am very,
very concerned about the colts. How could you not be?
(31:35):
I was on Good Morning Football today, as I am
every Tuesday morning, early wake up call for old Z user.
Tuesdays are tough and I do it about Tuesdays, uh,
and they were giving me quite amount, quite an amount
of guff about how can the cults be anywhere else
but thirty two, and you could argue that that's how
bad and non competitive um the cults were. And getting
(31:59):
shut out by the Jaguars of all teams. After you know,
I think the Texans are the worst team in football.
I have him at thirty two in the rankings. Spoiler alert,
and the fact that they couldn't beat the Texans in
week one, and I know the kicker that they got
rid of played a role in that. It's just the
team's lost and I think there are a couple of
things that play here. You don't have Shack Leonard, that's
the most important player in their defense, who not only
(32:21):
is a stabilizing force and a leader, but he is
no one's better at forcing turnovers at the linebacker position,
which changes the game, shortens fields, puts Jonathan Taylor in
a better position, puts the offense in a better position.
You're playing without Michael Pittman against Jacksonville and then if
you have Matt Ryan, that's cool. The idea of Matt
Ryan as an upgrade makes sense, but only if the
(32:42):
offensive line is supposed is as great as we were
expecting it to be, and that hasn't been the case either.
So it has been a power failure for the failures
in Indianapolis. But the reason I have him at twenty
six and not last in the League because, yeah, I
do like Frank Reich, I do like Ryan, I'd like
the offensive line. I Know Pittman and Leonard will come back. Um,
(33:04):
so not willing to just completely bury them, but they
were at number twelve countie when the season started. This
is a team that was so, so, so high on.
They have all. I know this is so embarrassing for you. Yes,
it is a power failure. They're gonna they tie the Texans.
Why are you not on the list of power failures,
because you know you should have put me on there.
(33:26):
You puffed your chest, you were the authorities. I thought
you were the guy that does the team. I don't
see you leading with a MIA culpa. You're throwing it
to me. It's time for you to say you know what,
I'm a power failure. It's I mean, when it comes
to the cults, absolutely, I will own up to it.
(33:46):
I don't understand why they continually start so slow. I
don't know what happened. Carson wentz is probably loving this
right now. Can I well, yeah, but can I? Can
I say something that as bad as the cults look,
would you be surprised I have a choice in this
or not? Really, would you be surprised if, in late
December they have some big game with the titans or
(34:08):
whatever and it's for the division title like that certainly
still feels like a possibility. We get, especially in this world,
you kind of expect whatever it is right now to
be the way it is. I think they will figure
some things out, but it is heavily they just they
don't look prepared at all. It looks very sloppy. This
was not what I was sold in terms of the
(34:28):
offensive line working. Ultimately, we should have taken me into consideration.
They should have let me know that this was going
to be a slower start so I didn't go out
there and hang some onions, which it did. Gus Bradley,
his defense is just like not coming along yet. I
know that not having Shack Barrett is a huge deal.
(34:49):
But they have the chiefs coming up on Sunday. That's
not going to work. Shack Leonard needs to get back.
So they got the chiefs in week three. So I
don't know what that's gonna do. Speaking of the schedule,
Gods Connie, they they set things up for reason that
there's a reason. They gave them the Texans in week one.
That that was because, you know, take care of business.
(35:10):
We're gonna GIVE YOU A W you're gonna have a
tougher week two game and then you're gonna lose in
week that's the schedule makers. But when you start blowing
games that you should win, that's the recipe for Oh
and three in disaster. So the Colts, they're at twenty six,
Um and then, yeah, it's here. We have the schedule.
Gave you the Texans and Jaguars in the first two weeks.
If you can't come out of there with a win, yeah,
(35:33):
it's gonna get real ugly. and Oh and to start
is awful for them. So you got the cowboys at
twenty one, up six spots, the browns at two, the
steelers at twenty three, then the jets up seven spots
to twenty five. Ahead of those colts who fell eleven
spots the bloviator and Washington at seven. The bloviator is
(35:56):
not going to catch on. bloviators, not a thing. I
think it's fitting. Thirty two, Jags at twenty nine, Falcons,
thirty bears, thirty one, panthers, thirty two Texans. Yeah, I
don't like the text. I don't like what I'm seeing
in Houston, especially on offense. Just doesn't see it with
(36:17):
a team with a ton of talent. Davis Mills hasn't played.
You have more confidence in the panthers a little bit.
How it's I mean, when you're talking at thirty one,
thirty two, you're splitting hairs. But if this is where
I would like to debate, if the panthers played the Texans,
you know, I think the panthers probably, with Christian McCaffrey,
find a way. But now we're just now we're going
(36:40):
to talk about the best of the rest, Dan, and
that means we're gonna put thirty seconds on the clock.
I have questions for you. We're gonna run through. So
that's good. Let's bring let's wrap this. I don't want
to look like, you know, an idiot or anything anywhere
out there this week. So I need to get this
information from you right here, right now. which team could
see a big jump in the rankings in the coming weeks?
(37:02):
About I need to be plugged in on this. Doubt
the J E T s and my homer maybe, but
the jets were thirty two last week. The jets have
a miracle, went over the browns and I understand they
shouldn't won that game. The browns had to do six
things wrong in a row to lose that game, but
they did. So they move up five spots, um seven spots,
(37:23):
and they get the Bengals who, not for nothing, have
not looked good, but are also the defending a C champions.
You beat the Bengals, the jets all of a sudden
are gonna slot in the teens in this exercise and
they have not been there since I've been doing right.
You're done. You're done. Time's up. Got It. Let's go
to the Vikings. Will they be in the top ten
when they hit their bye week, which is week seven?
(37:44):
All right, who they got? They got lions, saints, Bears, Dolphins. Yes,
I think, uh yeah, I think they will be, because
I I was feeling great about him after week one.
Weeks who went sideways, and the Kirk Cousins Primetime thing
is not a media narrative. He struggles in that situation.
But I think they're going to win games. I think
(38:05):
they're gonna get out of that four game stretch with
two or three wins, and they get three, they'll be
in right around the space they are now. Listen, they
don't have to play the eagles every week, so no
big deal, everybody. How about this one? Is Super Bowl
fifty six clouding your judgment of the Bengals? Yes, it is,
(38:25):
because teams with they passed track record, especially early in
the season. That does stick with me and it makes
me think, okay, they need to figure some things out,
and they certainly do. The offensive line is a major,
major issue for this team. Joe Burrow keeps getting hit
and in general, like people. One thing people forget this
offense was struggling before the playoffs started last year and
(38:47):
it was the defense and kicking game that got him
to the Super Bowl. Pressure is on the head coach.
Started on a twelve. Get beat by the jets and
you might be twenty, okay, more impressive. In Week two,
the giants or the cowboys feel like. I know this and, sir,
I feel like you hate the giants. I don't hate
(39:07):
the giants, I know I'm a New York Guy, you
know it makes me think of home, and so I'm
fine with the giants. I also don't buy the giants
at two and Oh. Um. Last year was the panthers,
you'll call recall. It started three and Oh and all
the panthers fans are like, how can they not be
a top ten team? Marching? Yeah, they were marching. That's
how I feel about the giants. Even if they win
(39:27):
this game, they're going to struggle to crack the top fifteen.
For me, I'm not buying Nice win by the cowboys, really,
like I saw from the quarterback there and a Phill
in duty. Okay, how about this one? which team could
see super rush drop? It is everybody remember remember his name.
He is that guy. which team coul see a big
drop in the rankings coming up? Broncos. That's an easy one.
(39:49):
That was a ugly, ugly game in a lot of ways. Um,
but they got the win because they were against the Texans.
I think they lose to twenty nine other teams Um
on Sunday and if they continue to play sloppy, uninspired
football and get beat up by the forty nine is
easily within the realm of possibility. You could see them
(40:10):
take a eight to ten spot dip here. Well, I
love that you just brought up the Broncos, because, Dan,
I have a little surprise for you here. Um, you've
been so busy just ranking all sorts of stuff. You've
been in ghost mode. It's like your power rankings vortex
that you go into. Now am the power rankings, as
we established at the top, your personality. Now it's who
(40:31):
it's you. Yeah, Dan is gone. The children have no father.
They have as it. Well, I am plugging into the
power and wait, what is this? I am going to
rank myself. This is like a ring running and professional wrestling.
That's right, all right, you know here to take over
(40:53):
and I'm going to rank some things here this week.
I trust you here. I think you're a woman with
good takes in general. Well, we'll see. God be debatable
on this one. These are my petty power rankings for
the week. I love all things petty. Can we clear
some Tom Petty Music for this segment going forward? I
doubt it. We don't have a budget. So Um, but
(41:14):
maybe we'll see our zero point zero zero budget will
not clear. Zero Point Zero Zero. You are just leading
me right to my point here. You brought up the Broncos.
You're brought up zero, zero zero. My favorite, one of
my favorite moments of the week, that's the broncos fans
counting down lay clock just to help out their offense
(41:38):
because the clock management has been so abysmal. This is
like Andy Reid in Philadelphia, type bad. That was what
he was known for, that was the thing that everybody
ripped him apart for. And now Nathaniel Hackett, first time
head coach, and you have Russell Wilson and you. You
should not be running into these issues. They were at
(41:58):
home and I believe they had to delay of game
penalty's and three called had a called time out with
some Um this organization. It's bad and at least, and
you Reid was a young, great head coach on the rise. Hackett,
so far as looked, in a little in over his head.
I hope for his sake, because I keep being told
(42:19):
he's a really good guy. Um, but he is so nice.
It's been tough and they're in prime time this week.
So the spotlight is going to be Broncos niners. That's
gonna be a good one. Okay, I my next one
is at number two and I really hope that these
fans come from some type of money, because they were
(42:42):
absolutely burning it. I know that's what people do in
Vegas going on in this, but the raiders fans, when
they were up three to seven, just popping bottles of Champagne,
sprang it all over the place, and producer drew did
a little research on this. Those bottles cost, we inc
(43:05):
three thousand dollars a pop. So they are just burning that.
And for the podcast science, it's the people like seated
behind the netting, behind the goal post, just spraying it onto,
I guess, the tunnel below, or maybe the fans below,
maybe the field below. It's probably the photographers and me.
That's that's a that's a really Um, proud and loyal
(43:28):
fan base. Well, there's that idiot that took a swung
at Kyler Murray, but otherwise great fans around the raiders
that have followed that team all around the west coast
and into the desert. Now I don't think those are
actually raiders fans. I think those are plants. Really I
think that has something to do with paid standing of Vegas,
and because how would you even get that into the building?
(43:49):
Because there's a menu, you can buy it and it
looks like it's the ace of spades Rose Magnum. So
that sells for three thousand of Pop. That's that's a disgrace.
I don't get me started on this. Maybe their calm. Two, knows? Okay,
last one, number one in the petty rank. So much
roof fixed, the favorite thing. Listen, common man, rankings a're
going up in those. He's got a roof to fix. Everybody.
(44:14):
Number One. Let's go to Philadelphia, where the Eagles fans
did this. So you're just hearing clapping right now. It's
it's truly but, um, the thing that was great about
this is, I don't know, maybe we could take that out.
(44:36):
I thought it would be better the fans when, when
the camera panned to the stands, everyone was doing the
skull chant. But my favorite part about that is they
were actually doing a folds chant because the NFC championship game,
that's what they did and Philly fans are always going
(44:57):
to Philly when given the opportunity. So a little foals
chant to send off the Vikings on a disaster this
Monday night. For them was what warmed my heart. So yeah,
and you guys are like booing Jalen Reagor because your
general manager made a bad draft pick. I didn't quite
follow that, but you guys have your own thing going on.
(45:18):
It's fine, like, I don't know, I'm actually with you
on the reagor stuff. I kind of feel bad for him.
It's not his fault that Howie Roseman thought that he
should be a first round pick. Like everybody kind of
like give him a break, but it was peak philly
that they viewed Jalen Reagor on a punt return. Philly
fans are they're like the the cool kid in the
back of the class. He's kind of a dirt bag, canceled,
(45:41):
but but you know, it's kind of cool because he
speaks his mind or she speaks her mind, but at
the same time it's like what's up his life? Probably
you know, it's tough too because like all the baggage,
because of that super bowl ring that they carry around
in the back of I'm happy for you, Colle and
I'm happy if your husband, Gonzo and Eagles fans just
(46:02):
be nice and by the way, you could close the
Oh with learning to fly by Tom Petty, and that
would tie in nicely with the Eagle that. Let's see
if we can clear that the budget. Zero, point zero.
I know you're right on top of that. Thanks everybody
for listening. We'll be back next week for Dan's week four,
week three powers of the kid in the eighties, Sitcom
(46:23):
head of the class that sat in the back with
his feed up. That's not us. I think that's you,
Dan by he's too cool. NFL power rankings as a
