Sc l L Sell Sell Sell.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
The Jets stole the show on trade deadline day by
shipping two of their best players out of town and
landing several first round picks in return. We will break
down how it all went down, as well as all
the other deals on a wild deadline day. The forty
nine Ers might have been in the trademarket for a
new middle linebacker to replace Fred Water, They've already found
(00:35):
a pretty good backer in house. Tata Mathoone joins the
show tonight to talk about breaking records and holding it
down for the six.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
And three niners.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
It is crunch time in your fantasy league, and if
you're like me, you didn't realize your kicker, tight end,
and two flex players are all out of buy this week.
Never fear, Michael left Florio is here to help you
and me hopefully find some waiver wire winners. Welcome inside
with the Insiders presented by Progressive Insurance. We're still here
(01:07):
alongside Ian Rappaport and Mike Garrifolo. I am Tom Pelisero.
The trade deadline finally is in the rearview mirror, and
so is flor Park, New Jersey. For a couple of
the Jets Stars. We'll start out with the true stunner
of the day. Sauce Gardner, just a few months after
(01:27):
signing a monster contract extension, traded today to the Colts
in exchange for first round picks in the next two drafts,
as well as wide receiver ad Mitchell. Sauce kind of
broke the news himself with a post on social media
earlier today say in New York, it's been real. I
(01:47):
mentioned Sauce breaking the news because Ian claimed if I
did that on the show, he'd walk off the sets.
Stay tuned to find out if he actually did. Ian
brought it home. With the deal, Sauce headed to Indy. Meanwhile,
Quittin Williams said to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for
first and second round picks and a former first round
pick in defensive tackle Mazie Smith, all of which left
(02:10):
Brece Hall at one point wondering about his own future.
He did not get traded, and leaders saying sick about
my brothers. Man happy for them, but man, I'm sick
right now. Help on the way over the next couple
of years. Potentially, if the Jets can nail at least
some of these picks, look at what they are working
(02:32):
with over the next two drafts. Two first round picks
in twenty twenty six, three first round picks in twenty
twenty seven. Ian I know that it was actually a priority.
The Jets wanted the extra first round pick in the
twenty twenty seven draft, which is regarded as a stronger
class overall, potentially stronger for quarterbacks as well. We'll see
(02:54):
they still got to pick the right players, but certainly
Darren Boogie in that new regime in New York added
a lot of flexibility and a lot of resources to
flip that roster.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Yeah, they certainly did so much that went into these trades,
and really, I would say a pretty crazy forty eight
hours for the Jets. You want to focus in on
Darren Muji for a second, I mean trading Sauce Gardner,
trading quinnn Williams impressive enough to get the kind of
haul that he did. What he really did is had
to show the other general managers that he was willing
to not deal them. Everything he did publicly, everything he
(03:26):
did privately was show them, if you don't want to
pay up, I am simply not going to trade these guys.
And basically what he did was gather up a market,
drive the price up, wait till it was absolutely at
its peak, and then trade some of his best players
in a way that will allow them.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
To completely rebuild their franchise.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Yes, the Indianapolis Colts went all in on Sauce Gardner,
deciding that Daniel Jones is their quarterback.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Yes, the Dallas Cowboys proved.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Once again they care a lot a lot about the
interior defensive line, just like they care a lot about
the offensive line. But really, what the Jets did is
show everyone we are not there and we have to
get a quarterback. They set themselves up to get a quarterback.
It was an unbelievable day in New York. Now, the
season's going to be tough, but it was an unbelievable
(04:13):
day in New York.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
There's a screenshot of ian breaking the news of Sauce
Gardner going to the Colts. The Colts, now, by the way,
I mean, I was on the field pregame and back
in August for a preseason game talking to lou Anarroumo,
the defensive coordinator, who was asking what's going to happen
around the league with some of the cornerbacks that might
come free at Cuts Final Cuts, and that was back
(04:34):
in August, September, October. Finally, in November, after they had
the likes of Xavian Howard in and tried some other guys,
they get themselves a legitimate, top flight Pro Bowl cornerback
in Sauce Gardner to go alongside Shavarius Ward on the
other side, guys that can lock up with receivers. That
allows Ana Roumo to do what he has done in
(04:54):
the past, which is be multiple on the back end.
Patrick Mahomes when he would face the Bengals repeatedly with
express his frustration with the fact that lou Aniromo was
really good about showing him something the entire game and
then throwing a curve ball when it mattered late in
the fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
He can now do a little bit more of that.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
When you can rely on cornerbacks to play that aggressive
man coverage like Sauce Gardner is going to be able to.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
As for the.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Jets, Darren Muji did speak to the media. He said,
this is not a tear down. They're trying to stay
competitive this year. Look, this is not going to make
them any more competitive this year. This is going to
make them less competitive. But for the long haul, he's
got himself some trade capital. You've got it, You've got
a cap It's like anybody can take the reservation. Tom
the key is holding the reservation. It's another side Beelt reference.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
For you with sauce Gardner too.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
The Colts were heavy in the cornerback market over the
last several days.
Speaker 5 (05:47):
They knew they needed to upgrade the position.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
My understanding was they had other options, but they didn't
feel like they could.
Speaker 5 (05:52):
Find a difference maker.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
Chris Ballard this morning pushed this thing really hard, ultimately
got it done.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
With the Jets.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
And by the way, you mentioned Mike the Leu Narubo,
what he's getting for his scheme. The two most important
things for Matt Eberflus's scheme in Dallas running that sort
of variation of the old Tampa two. It's the three
technique defensive tackle. It is a Mike linebacker. The fact
that they picked up Quinn Williams as well as Logan Wilson.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
That makes a huge difference.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
We'll see how quickly they can integrate all that and
turn around what has been one of the NFL's worst units.
Great news for sauce Gardner. He gets to go back
to Europe's news off game on the NFL takes the
field in Berlin for the first time as the Falcons
square off against the Colts in a historic early morning showdown.
So get ready to wake up and watch, because here
(06:41):
our stars come out in the morning. It is Sunday

The Cowboys making multiple deals, including Addie linebacker Logan Wilson.
(07:04):
As Ian did break early this morning a twenty twenty
six to seventh round pick going to the Bengals in
exchange for Wilson, who had recently requested a trade after
losing out in his role in Cincinnati. Was not that
long ago, a few months ago that Al Golden was
talking about building the defense around Logan Wilson. It obviously
didn't end nobody that anybody wanted there. So now a
(07:25):
defensive captain in Cincinnati, Mike becomes a huge part of
what they intend to do moving forward in Dallas.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Meanwhile, up there in Seattle, they say the trade deadline
isn't just about attacking the weaknesses on your own roster.
Sometimes it's making the strength strengths even stronger. That's what
the Seahawks did Rashid Shaheed, whom the Saints had wanted
a third round pick for. In the end, they get
a four and a five. It sort of adds up
to that third if you look at it that way.
But the Seahawks didn't have to part with a Day
(07:53):
two pick for a guy that knows offensive coordinator Klink
Kubiak of the adjustment there to this game will be immediate.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
He takes the top off of defenses, He makes clutch plays.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
He'll also be a part of the return game as
far as I'm concerned. So the Seahawks say, as good
as our offense looked, and as good as Sam.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Dard to look, gonna look even better now with a
deep threat in Shaheat.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Yeah, they certainly have established themselves as one of the
teams to be, which is exactly where the Jacksonville Jaguars
want to be. They made a little step toward that
today acquiring Jacoby Myers from.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
The Las Vegas Raiders.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
This has been quite a saga we reported in training
gave Jacoby Myers asked to be traded. The Raiders said no,
and then the product they saw in the field was
just not good. They could tell he did not want
to be their body language play the whole deal. There
was a lot of discussions in the end. The Jacksonville Jaguars,
losing Travis Hunter for four weeks at least, helped push
(08:47):
this across. They end up trading for Jacoby Myers, another
weapon for Trevor Lawrence, and then right at the buzzer,
right before the deadline, the Los Angeles Chargers to it.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
But in the market for an.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Offensive lineman either a starter hard to come by, nearly impossible,
or more likely some depth, they trade for Trevor Penning,
the former first rounder for the New Orleans Saints, has
played tackle, has played guard, ends up going for a
sixth rounder in twenty twenty seven, just a little more
depth for Harbo's team.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Ten trades in all got finalized on the final day
to make them prior to mid March when the trade
window opens up once again. That includes a few other
deals for defensive players. Draymont jones Ian broke that one
last night, headed to the Ravens from the Titans, the
Bears had some pastros help, as did the Eagles over
(09:39):
the weekend, and then the Chargers as only the Chargers do,
like an hour after the deadline announced that they squeezed
one more in sending a cornerback to the Jets. We
also knew that there were a lot of other discussions
going on. We spent a great deal of time talking
about a variety of deals for players who potentially could
be on the move. There were some real ones like
(09:59):
j Waddell and Trey Hendrickson that drew interest. There were
some that were stirred up by nonsense Internet rumors, like
all the teams that are trading for Bradley Chubb and
he didn't end up getting traded. Here, Mike, what stood
out to you in terms of some of those guys
who ended up staying put.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
I'll start with Brece Hall from the Jets, because once
we saw this, I know Muji wasn't Darrin Mugie wasn't
liking the idea of a tear down phrasing for that one.
But once you see that happening, you're like, well, clearly
they're going to move on from Brice Hall, who has
made it clear he's wanted a trade, going to be
a free.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Agent after the season.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
I don't think at this point he'll be back with
the Jets, sort of a franchise tag. I did have
somebody say, how about Breece Hall's last play as a
Jet is going to be a half back pass? Who
would have thought that not going to wind up being
the case. The Jets still want Breese Hall to contribute
for them down the stretch, and he will, but again,
going to be a free agent. Would not be surprised
if he's in a different uniform next year, maybe the Chiefs,
(10:53):
maybe a Chiefs uniform with the Chiefs did have talks
with the Jets, just weren't.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Willing to meet the asking price.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
I would imagine there'll be a bunch of teams interested
in Bristol, just like there'll be a bunch of tams
interested in Jalen Waddle this offseason. You mentioned Darren Mujie
now wanting to tear it down. I got the sense
the Miami Dolphins were kind of in that same mode. Obviously,
they did trade Jalen Phillips to the Eagles, but they
didn't want it to be a fire sale. They didn't
want the prices to be fire sale prices, right, So
(11:19):
Jalen Phillips goes and everyone's like, oh cool, we can
get Bradley Chubb for cheap, we get Jalen Wattle for
less than one. Could not get Bradley Chubb for cheap,
and could not get Jalen Wattle for less than one.
They held firm on their prices, knowing by the way,
Chubb potentially will either redo his deal or leave in
the offseason, and if they wanted to trade Waddle for
future picks, they can do it in March and probably
(11:42):
for the same price. So the Dolphins end up staying
put in Certainly, Tom, I know you're going to get
into this, but Trey Hendrickson not going anywhere. Certainly one
of the bigger stories of the trade deadline.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
And it never seemed as much as the Bengals did
have communication over the last twenty four hours with other teams,
it was mostly in the vein of, hey, we're not
going to eat any of the money. It's still going
to cost you somewhere in the range of a second
round draft pick, and by the way, we're still kind of.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
In it, so we're really not motivated.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
They really would have had to be blown away with
a trade offer to move on from Trey Hendrickson, even
though Cincinnati is three and six and just lost two
games that on paper you'd say these are ones that
the Bengals should win at home. They're not out of
it in a division where nobody's really running away with
this thing.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
Now.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Trey Henderson, remember, has been dealing with an injury, has
missed the past couple of games.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
We'll see. It's no guarantee that he's back out on the.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
Field this week.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
But for as bad as that Bengals defense has been,
and even though they did trade away Logan Wilson, it
just didn't seem like they were motivated in any way
to trade away a player who, by the way, they've
already paid like twenty six million dollars in this season
after upgrading his contract during training camp. Here Trey Henderson
a Bengal at least for the rest of this year.
Speaker 6 (12:51):
It would be.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Really costly to franchise tag him after the season. We'll
see exactly though, what direction this goes in Cincinnati for
one of the most prolific pass rushers over the past
couple of years.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Monday Night Football before a lot of.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Things happened today quarterbacks quarterbacks quarterbacks. Kyler Murray is still
out with that foot injury that suddenly seemed to get
worse as soon as Jonathan Gannon made it.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Clear Jacoby Brissett's the starter. Will get to that in
a second.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Here's Brissette to Maarvin Harrison Junior, Amazing how this happens
as well, All of a sudden, he's involved and performing
when somebody's getting them the football.
Speaker 7 (13:24):
Now.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
Trey McBride twelve yard touchdown to make it twenty four
to seven. Jonathan Gannon says, I think I found my
Quarterback'm gonna wait till tomorrow to tell everybody.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Late fourth quarter, Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (13:33):
Trailing twenty seven to seventeen, got a chance for a comeback.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
But another mistake in the.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Other team's territory the story of the night for the Cowboys.
The Cardinals win twenty seven. He is seventeen, Cowboys first
loss at home on the season. Yeah, and then today
Cardinals naming Jacoby Brissett their starting quarterback.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Now.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
Jonathan Gannon said he likes the way the offense is
performing now while Kyler Murray continues to rehab, but it's
pretty clear what's happening right now.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
It's a hot take.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
It's a fresh take, like the fresh takes presented by Chipotle.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Steve Weis with me.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Your hot take is that they've turned it over to
Jacoby Brissett. He's just not really gonna say it out right,
but we know what's happening.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
Kyler Murray's healthy.
Speaker 1 (14:18):
He still could be the backup. Yes, we can talk
about that.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
We can talk about the Dallas Cowboys front seven, which
was not great last night. But you added Quinn Williams
to the mix, and all of a sudden, maybe this
defense taken on a different look.
Speaker 8 (14:28):
We'll see. I mean again, it wasn't great last night.
A lot of this stuff you see. The first off,
Arizona was getting bodies on them, blocking them all over
the place. The linebacker angles created a bunch of natural
run lanes.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
They over pursued, they under pursued.
Speaker 6 (14:39):
It was poor.
Speaker 8 (14:40):
But now the trade for quinnin Williams Dallas's third new
defensive line. Remember they traded for Kenny Clark earlier. I
am added Jadebion Clowney. So three of the four starters
are imported to see if they can help. I mean,
Quinn was we know what he had been right. He
was not having a great year with the Jets. But
we'll see if he can fit in this gap scheme.
But Jerry Jones must think that they have a shot
(15:02):
to win this year even though they're three to five
and one. They've maybe got two losses left in them.
But Quinn Williams, they've got to do something to fix
this defense. Logan Williams. Logan Wilson comes in from Cincinnati
behind him at mid linebacker. He's probably more so for depth,
but they still have a lot of work to do
because we've seen in the secondary has been getting cooked.
But maybe more pressure and stopping the run can help that. Again,
(15:25):
I don't think it's necessary an immediate fix.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
Between Kenny Clark and Quinn Williams. It's not guys that
are in the first act of their career. They're somewhere
in the middle of the second act. But they still
feel like they've got good football left. And Jerry Jones
did say, if we're going to make some moves here,
it's going to be not just about this year. It's
going to be adding pieces for the long hault.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
He got to feel better about that. There's still some
work that needs to be done.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
They still have some draft capital left over from the
Micah Parsons deal. Ye's still some work to be done,
but some big pieces added, literal big pieces.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
With Quinn Williams added today in.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
The Alwers have some big pieces on their defense. And
finally finally took aim minute took him minute, took a
couple of games, but finally the Steelers defense is starting
to ball a little bit, did so against Indianapolis Colts
last week.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
We will see if it's going to continue.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
And actually we're just gonna listen to Brian Baldinger right
here to tell if it's going to tell us if
it's going to continue. Baldi, you are one of the
nation's foremost experts in telling us what we are watching
on the football field. What do you say about this
Steelers defense?
Speaker 9 (16:30):
Well, I let it be known, Ian I was there
at the game of on AWSKI for National Radio, and
I let TJ and her Big and high Smith and
those guys know that if you want to be in
Baldi's breakdowns, you better start making some plays. And so
they did. And you know, it really starts up front.
It starts up front with the defensive front. But also
they made changes, a lot of changes Ian Jalen Ramsey,
(16:52):
Kyle Dugart who they traded for last week. They were
the starting safeties. They played nearly every snap. Now, what
that did was it really allowed the corners to lot.
You know, you got Slay and Porter here locking up
on the wide receivers and it forced Daniel Jones to
hold the ball and then he was trying to find somebody,
end up running out of bounds, get hit.
Speaker 6 (17:09):
By Joey Porter for a sack right there.
Speaker 9 (17:12):
But you know, will you leave TJ Watt one on
one like he is right here with Brayden Smith like
it's just a matter of time before he wins.
Speaker 6 (17:19):
And he's going to come off the ball right here,
He's going to throw the hook and then with his.
Speaker 9 (17:22):
Left hand he's going to get the ball out of
Daniel Jones' hand, force the fumble, recover the fumble, and
that ignited not just the defense, but the whole team.
And then they started coming after Daniel Jones and this
coach off win six man pressure. In fact, right here
you see high Smith bent and herbig They all win
and then they meet at the quarterback and take down
(17:42):
Daniel Jones and then the different bliz is like, that's
Peyton Wilson, the middle linebacker coming off the edge. He
gets in the passing lane of Daniel Jones, bats the
ball back to his partner Jack Sawyer there for an interception.
Peyton Wilson was a monster in this game. And then
here's those safety sitting back. They've got the lead. Anything
get over their head, and then they're going to come
after Daniel Jones and play a matchup zone here.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
Just match up with those receivers.
Speaker 9 (18:07):
Make Daniel Jones hold the ball, and then eventually Nick
Herbig gets to it.
Speaker 6 (18:11):
And if you look at who's.
Speaker 9 (18:12):
On the field right here, get a couple of rookie
defensive tackles Derek harmon Y a Black along with Herbig
and Hei Smith, and they really converge right here on
Daniel Jones.
Speaker 6 (18:22):
In fact, her Big is spying right.
Speaker 9 (18:23):
Now on Daniel Jones and he gets another fourth bumble.
Speaker 6 (18:26):
He's good at that the coult recover.
Speaker 9 (18:28):
But still they affected the quarterback throughout the day. And
the question that jask me Ian is can they keep
this up? Well, if they want to keep winning, that's
where it's got to start. It's got to start up
front and then on the back end. I think the
safety play was outstanding. I think Jalen is a good
communicator back there. I think he'd love to play corner,
but I think this best serves the team right now
(18:50):
to play at that position.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
I'm not so sure he'd love to play corner.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
I think he's kind of liking the playmaking free safety,
being the guy who makes it all go.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
But we'll see, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
I know this was a role he actually ied in preseason,
being like, all right, maybe I can extend my career
playing like this, and we'll see if they're able to
continue it.
Speaker 1 (19:12):
Baldy, thank you very much, great stuff. As always, Tom,
they look at.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
The AFC NFC playoff pictures at the exact midway point
in the season. The Steelers are in that mix. Would
currently be the number four seed in the AFC. There
are some notable teams missing on both sides of this,
none more so than no Ravens, no Chiefs. If the
season ended today, which of course it does not, It's
(19:40):
time now for Jeffrey Jdia and Mark Ross. Jefferys got
a news story up at NFL dot com. It is
jeff crystal Ball ten people who will shape the second
half of the season. Jeffrey, Let's talk about some quarterbacks
who will play a role in that.
Speaker 10 (19:54):
We'll start with Boonix in Denver, Tom they're leading the
AFC West, and he's a very confounding player because right
now is Passion rating his twenty third in the NFL.
That's behind Justin Fields. But this team is writing a
six game win streak. They've got four fourth quarter comebacks
and he's a big part of that. He has a
knack from making plays at critical moments, using his legs
like he did last week to get get his team
(20:16):
in position to win games. And so Mark, I know
bow Knicks is a provocative player, but I like his
ability to shape this team moving forward.
Speaker 6 (20:24):
Well.
Speaker 11 (20:25):
Talking about a confounding player, Jeffery, I'm gonna go with
your alone there, mister JJ McCarthy, I guess you got no.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
Love for your wolverine.
Speaker 11 (20:32):
And you know, even though this scene as if this
was the best game he played against the lines, he
made plays when he needed to. He only completed fourteen
passes for one hundred and forty three yards, had two
touchdowns and one interception. So he saw the good and
the bad of JJ, but moving forward with the Vikings
that ultra competitive NFC North, can he continue to make
the plays but also show more consistency and be able
(20:54):
to lean on him to be a playmaker and not
just a spot playmaker to go along with that defense
and JJ and the rest.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Of the crew.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
That last throw right there that you saw to Jalen Naylor,
that was third down for the game. If that shouldn't
complete the line, save the time out the Bikings are
putting it back.
Speaker 5 (21:13):
He made some big time throws in that game.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
How about a running back Jeffrey That'll help shape the
rest of this seat.
Speaker 10 (21:20):
Buffalo's James Cooker is making life a lot.
Speaker 7 (21:22):
Easier on Josh Allen right now.
Speaker 10 (21:23):
And I know Al's back in the MVP race, but
he better give a big thank you to this guy
because he is carrying the load in Buffalo.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
You saw what he meant to them in that game
against Kansas City.
Speaker 10 (21:32):
He's gone over two un of yards two weeks ago,
he controlled the game last week, and he's second in the
league in rushing right now. I think that all this
talk about his contract over the offseason, he's a steal
right now. Mark, He's gonna be a big part of
what Buffalo does in the second half.
Speaker 11 (21:47):
Love James Cook as a complimentary piece to Josh Allen,
the perennial MVP. But this guy right here we go
down now has completely transformed this Panthers organization three and
zero when he's the starting running back, He's third in
the NFL now in rushing yards and yards per Carrie.
They scored twenty four points per game when he's the starter,
only sixteen when he is not. And when you just
(22:09):
feed him the ball, he has shown the ability to
just absolutely win games for the Panthers. Their defense was
nasty last week. Bryce Young May plays when he needed to,
so Rico Dowdell will completely dictate how this Panthers team
goes the rest of the season.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Let's flip it over to the R side of the ball, Jeffrey,
how about on defense? Who is a person who helped
shape the rest of the season.
Speaker 10 (22:31):
Well Mark mentioned my Michigan roots. I'm going to Motown
for this one. Aiden Hutchinson the edge rushing for the Lions.
He's obviously was not around last year, only played five
game with that broken leg, but he is off to
a great start now. He's got seven sacks, but this
team's offense is not doing what he was doing earlier
this year, only sixty five points scored the last three games.
This defense, which has been begged for the secondary, has
(22:53):
got to come through for the Lions. That means Hutchinson's
got to play like a defensive Player.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Of the Year candidate mark for the rest of the season.
There's no doubt.
Speaker 11 (23:01):
But let's go with a defensive coordinator and that's the
much in battle zach Orr. They were crushing him last
season in the first nine games, last eight games. The
Ravens defense turned around when the best of the NFL
started out once again this season, giving up points like
crazy last in the league, the last three games only
giving up a total of thirty nine points. The Kyle
(23:22):
Hamilton has now moved into a different role there.
Speaker 6 (23:25):
With the signing of a low high Gilman.
Speaker 11 (23:27):
I love the Draymont Jones signing the trade right now
to add a little bit more pass rush. So we'll
see if zach Orr can continue his trend like last
season where the Ravens defense finished wrong.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Because we know what Lamar in the offense is going
to give.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
The full story from Jeffrey NFL dot com slash Chidia.
That is where you can find it. Jeffrey Mark, thank
you very much. Could Tata theffoon help shape the rest
of this NFL season? Well, him and all the other
backup players and young players right now are out there
for the forty nine ers.
Speaker 1 (23:58):
We'll get that, asked Tatum him.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
So if ahead of a big divisional game against the Rams,
he joins the show right after this, It's The Insiders
presented by Progressive Insurance.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
Quite william saying is goodbye to the Jets and hello
to Dallas and New York. Will always have a special
place in my heart. Thank you for embracing a kid
from Alabama. I'm excited for what's next in Dallas. Can't
wait to get to work. He added, at you, bless you,
thank you. That clip will never ever ever get old.
(24:40):
Tatum Betune, Yes, sixteen tackles man.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
The forty nine ers have needed.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
Him after losing Fred Warner to his likely season ending injury,
and this young man has stepped up. And now he
steps up to the mic to talk to us here
at The Insiders, our Judy Battista and Brian Baudinger with
Beetoon earlier today, straight.
Speaker 12 (25:15):
From the celebration forty nine Ers linebacker Tatum, but then
joins the insiders.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
That's Brian Baldinger.
Speaker 12 (25:21):
I'm Judy Batista, and that is Tatum, who had a
huge game against the Giants.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Lots to celebrate.
Speaker 12 (25:26):
You've actually had a bunch of huge games since having
to step in for Fred Warner when Warner went down.
What are the last few weeks been like for you?
Speaker 13 (25:35):
I've been living to dream, honestly, been living in dream,
having funds, just making the most of my opportunity and
also just trying to find ways for this team to
continue to get wins and play at a high standard.
Speaker 6 (25:48):
You know, Tatum.
Speaker 9 (25:50):
Fred Warner could quite possibly been my favorite player to
study in this league, just the way that he played
just I mean, just all out all the time.
Speaker 6 (25:59):
But when I watch it, it's pretty good imitation of
what Fred played.
Speaker 7 (26:02):
Like.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
Has Fred talk to you at all? Is he is?
Speaker 9 (26:05):
He complimented your of You had a chance to sit
down with him since you took over forming that game
against Tampa.
Speaker 7 (26:11):
Yeah, it's since that game since Tempa.
Speaker 13 (26:13):
I text Fred after every game just to see what
he thought about our performance and also my performance, and
he loved it every week, and obviously it's things that
I got to get better at, just being the mic
line back there and having communication, but just playing hard.
I just being able to see I thought I played
hard in college man, and then I got here and
(26:33):
I've seen the way Fred and Dre and Dee Winner's
played and I was like, yeah, I got to step
my game up. So just being around him and just
having a year with them, and now I get my opportunity.
I know how things need to look, and I'm just
trying to continue just to keep doing that moving forward.
Speaker 12 (26:51):
You were the sixth to last player drafted. You worked
your way up. You've got an awful lot of responsibility
on your plate now, as you said, like you've to
do all the communicating with the defense. How have you
gotten yourself into a position to be able to perform
so well in the clutch the team has needed you
since Warner went down? How did you get ready for
(27:12):
this moment?
Speaker 13 (27:13):
I feel like I've always been a leader since you football,
always the team captain, since since high school going into college,
I was always a team captain, and now I'm able
to just do it again here. And also it really
just came natural It's just me just building a relationship
with new guys that's on the team and finding ways
where I could find ways for them to get better
(27:35):
and also me and understand how they see things so
we can all be on the same page when the
time comes and we can play fast.
Speaker 9 (27:43):
The one thing about playing fast, Tatum, when I watch
you play, is you know where the ball is going,
and then it's just a question of getting off the
block or getting to the spot and beating the running
back or quarterback.
Speaker 6 (27:55):
Whoever to the spot. That looks like that's an instinct
that you have.
Speaker 9 (28:00):
Part of it is this preparation to study no the formation,
know the play, But the other part.
Speaker 6 (28:04):
Is just the instinct.
Speaker 9 (28:05):
I think that you actually are born with or developed
at Miami or wherever right now. But that's a pretty
strong indicator that you get to the football as quick
as anybody out there on the field.
Speaker 7 (28:15):
Appreciate that, right.
Speaker 13 (28:17):
I feel like that's one of my blessed guy gave
me is great instincts.
Speaker 7 (28:22):
Man.
Speaker 13 (28:22):
I always had instincts, always was able to rack up tackles,
and I just feel like what I need to add
to my game is just being able to be more
productive in the ball game and just creating turnovers and
just getting our offense back to the ball.
Speaker 7 (28:35):
So we continue just to keep putting our wins.
Speaker 12 (28:39):
The forty nine ers have just had a tremendous series
of injuries, and I think with each one we all say, oh,
this is the one that's going to do the maint
and you guys keep going, you keep winning. What are
the conversations like inside the building about sustaining and keeping
going no matter how many injuries pile up.
Speaker 13 (28:58):
Yeah, Like I said, like this, this San Francisco defense
man Fred and coach Salad, they established a standard that
everybody needs to play with no matter where you are
in the depth chart. So we name your call, we
expect everybody to be prepared. And also me, we all
just got to continue just to just to keep going
and understand that it's not going to be the same
(29:19):
way the guys how Nick Bosa and Fred Warner made plays.
But if we just be us and understand what's going on,
I feel like we could be unstoppable.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
Day.
Speaker 9 (29:29):
These games only get bigger. You got the Rams this week.
One of the best plays we saw all year was
Alfred Collins getting the ball out of Kyraen Williams hands
going in for the go ahead touchdown the first time
you played them. But this is a division game, this
is this I know they're all important, but can you
can you not wait to get the preparation for this week,
(29:50):
for this game right now?
Speaker 7 (29:52):
Yeah, I'm actually very excited for this week.
Speaker 13 (29:54):
Man. It's a huge opportunity for this whole team and
our backs against the wall.
Speaker 7 (29:59):
But that's it eactly how we wanted.
Speaker 13 (30:00):
We didn't want it easy, and we're gonna fight for
every yard and every inch that we can and be
able to get this win.
Speaker 7 (30:07):
And continue just to keep striving through the season.
Speaker 13 (30:09):
So I'm just ready and I'm excited to see what
the guys got to step up due this week too.
Speaker 7 (30:15):
Our preparation is going to be everything.
Speaker 12 (30:18):
One more question from us, like how much more do
you think you have to do to your own game?
You're already playing at such a high level, but this
is your first real chance to step in there.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
Where can your game go from here?
Speaker 7 (30:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (30:30):
Like I said, my ball production, Like, I'm around the
ball a lot, and I just feel like if I'm
going to be around the ball that much, I need
to get it out too, so or at least get
it back to the offense. So now that's where I
feel like I just need to step up. And also
our communication it hasn't been terrible, but I feel like
it could be a lot more better than We could
just be lined up faster, just be able to play
(30:51):
faster too.
Speaker 12 (30:54):
Tatum, thank you so much for joining us on the Insiders.
We look forward to watching you the rest of the way.
Speaker 7 (30:59):
Appreciate off IV.
Speaker 4 (31:01):
Yeah, We're gonna be watching him play for many, many years.
Time for good coverage presented by a Progressive. The Rams
have been showing good coverage all season, ranking in the
top ten and six different defensive categories. The Rams have
twelve takeaways, tied for six most in the league, twenty
seven sacks ranks tied for third. Meanwhile, they're second in
the NFL in both third down percentage and opponent red
(31:23):
zone touchdown percentage. That is good coverage presented by Progressive Insurance.
Steve Weisch here with me now, Mike Carfollo reintroducing myself.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Let's talk about this Rams defense. How do you attack them?
If you're the San Francisco forty nine.
Speaker 8 (31:41):
Well, look, Chris Shula, first off, the Rams defensive coordinate
expected to hear his name. It's some coaching circles after
the season. He's really getting a job done. But if
you're the forty nine, as you attack them like you
always do. That's with number twenty three Christian McCaffrey. Now
we know mac Jones, he is throwing darts all over
the place to whomever is on the field as a receiver. Well,
this guy here has been healthy this year and against
(32:02):
the Rams and actually in their wins this year, he's
getting probably more than twenty five touches a game. He
has been a true bellcal even running the ball. I
mean you've seen games or he's had twenty eight carries
and he's catching the ball six or seven times a game.
So this is partially by design, partially by checkdown with
mac Jones and the.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Way their offense runs.
Speaker 8 (32:25):
But again this is something where Christian McCaffrey is such
a tough matchup, whether it be a linebacker, whether it
be a defensive back. There's no way to really isolate
him with the way they use him. Plus he's such
a powerful runner between the tackles.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
That's something that does.
Speaker 6 (32:37):
Not get talked about.
Speaker 8 (32:38):
Talk about his affecting this in the outside zone and
things like that. So with the Rams and this aggressive
nature that they have with their front four and front
five when they send people, Caffrey's a guy again that
could be using in the short passing game, but also
on some of the inside power stuff that they like
to do to try to get into some of those
natural gaps that are formed by the RAMS aggression up front.
Speaker 4 (32:57):
Last time these two teams play, Kendrick Bourn one hundred
and forty two yard two back to back one hundred
and forty two yard games. Weird that he fill in
that number back to back games, but he was unstoppable,
unstoppable that night. You wonder if you start to see
because he hasn't had that same production the last couple
of weeks back Jones, if exactly Mac Jones was barely
standing by the end of that game.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Time now to go inside with NFL Fantasy Live and
our guy Michael f Florio joining us as he does
every Tuesday with me, Tom Pilicero as well as Ian Rapport.
Let's talk waiver wire targets. Everybody's got to put those
in tonight, including me. I need a lot of stuff
because I planned really poorly for by ma get In
(33:39):
here in week ten, let's start out with a running
back target, Florio.
Speaker 14 (33:43):
What do you got, yeah, Devin Singletary. Last week I
was talking of Tyrone Tracy, but Singletary actually played fifty
five percent of the snaps. He had more carries and
ran more routes than Tyrone Tracy. And we know that
him and Dable have a hitter together, not just the
last couple of years in New York, but go back
to Buffalo and now this week he gets a favorable
(34:03):
matchup against the Bears, who have struggled against the run.
Speaker 1 (34:06):
They are top four yards per.
Speaker 14 (34:08):
Contact yards before contact allowed, so he should have room
to run there.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
I think he is in a.
Speaker 14 (34:14):
Flex option here, but the Giant schedule gets a lot
tougher after this week, so I wouldn't go too heavy
on your fab budget or anything like that unless.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
You need to start him this week.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
Well, some of us started Tyrol and Tracy last week
and probably still need to go back to the waiver
wire running backs. But let's shift to receiver. Yep, that's
your foul. Let's shift to receiver. What he got for
us on the waiver wire at the receiver position.
Speaker 14 (34:39):
Look Troy Franklin, who has been picked up and dropped
by a number of teams, I'm sure in every league
around the country. But right now he leads the Broncos
and targets air yards and end zone targets on this season.
And I've had a lot of people on Twitter being like, well,
that's because all of his production comes on screens. Well,
the good thing is his coach loves wide receiver screens,
(35:00):
maybe more than anyone in the history.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
Of the NFL.
Speaker 14 (35:03):
The floor might not be as safe as something, but
he's had more big games and it's a great matchup
this week against the Raiders. So he is someone you
could pick up and start. And then Alec Pierce. He
had thirteen targets last week, twenty air yards per target
this year, leads the NFL, and in four of his
last six games he has scored double digit Fantasy points.
(35:24):
So that floor is starting to become safer. But he
is always someone you could get in your starting lineup
if you are in a pinch because the ceiling is
so high due to his downfield usage that yeah, maybe
you're looking at like a six to seven point day
if he doesn't hit, But if he does hit, he
might just win you the week.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
All right, how about a tight end? Florio, who am
I picking up right now on the wire? Don't do that, Ian, Well,
we don't want to pick up on the wire.
Speaker 14 (35:48):
We're not doing I'm anti six to seven now. But
Colson Lovelin is a tight end that you have to
pick up seven not six, seven targets last week's second
most the Bears. He turned that into one hundred and
eighteen yards two touchdowns, including the game winner. That was
all him, and my hope is that this leads to
him remaining as the tight end one and being more
(36:11):
involved for the Bears. Plus favorable matchup this week against
the Giants who've allowed a ton of pass game production.
So he is also someone you could pick up and
start this week. But he's not the only one. This
is a great week of streaming tight ends. There's some
running backs and wide receivers there for you, but if
you need some streaming tight ends, this is the week
for you.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
And grab those quarterbacks.
Speaker 14 (36:33):
Even if they don't play this week, their upside is
high enough where you they should be on your roster.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
There's a night football this week, an AFC West clash.
I think you got to call it a clash, the
Denver Broncos looking to extend their lead and the AFC
West the Las Vegas Raiders, looking to shake off that
disappointing defeat to the Jaguars the other day. Time to
get right and time to get back on the field.
Prime Video Thursday, eight fifteen pm kickoff, which means if
(37:00):
today is Tuesday, it must be Sam Schwarztein Day. Here
on the Insiders, Brian Video and tnf's analytics expert to
give a deep dive into the week ten TNF matchup
between those two teams. Bo Nicks leads all twenty twenty
four draft quarterbacks in at least one category wins.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
How does he do it, Sam, Well, he saves it
for the fourth quarter.
Speaker 15 (37:19):
He's a much different quarterback in the first three quarters
and then he just decides to go off in the fourth.
He's got a negative EPA per dropback through quarters one
and one through three, but then the fourth quarter he's
point to aep per dropback and this carries over from
last year. This was negative EPA in the first three
quarters to plus point one four. So he's at least
twice as good this year as he was compared to
(37:40):
last year. And it's these big plays that he's able
to make when he pushes the ball downfield, not afraid
to take off and scramble because I think his job.
I think everyone in the building knows, hey, this defense
is awesome. We don't need to use him until the
fourth quarter and he can go win us the game.
Speaker 1 (37:55):
Wins are not a quarterback steat, of course they are.
Speaker 4 (37:57):
If Sam Schwarztein says they only has other stats back up,
that's that bo doesn't just win games as much as
their defense does as well. Their defense gives up the
fourth fewest points per game at just eighteen point four
this season.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
How does Vance Joseph's unit do it?
Speaker 15 (38:15):
It's all about getting after the quarterback and their pressure
rate is the number one in the NFL out forty
four percent. And it's because their ability to have two
really unique edge rushers and Nick Bonito and Jonavan Cooper,
and these guys are not household names, but they should be.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
In large part.
Speaker 15 (38:30):
I think sometimes they're at practice the other team's practice
during the week because of how will they get off
the ball? John Than Cooper leads the NFL with a
point seventy three get off time I mean how fast
he's crossing line of scrimmage after the snap. Number three
is Nick Bonito, and Nick Benito leads the NFL in
quick pressure rate pressures under two and a half seconds.
That means the offense had no chance of getting started
(38:51):
at eleven percent. And you can't forget Zach Allen in
the middle. He's tied for the league lead in pressures
from defensive tackles in sacks.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
This is a full unit.
Speaker 15 (39:02):
This is the same unit from twenty twenty three that
was getting embarrassed.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
It's great to see the progressions now.
Speaker 4 (39:07):
They're not actually at the other team's practices that's frowned upon.
We don't need any more congressional hearings. Sam makes the jokes,
He's the joke maker. He's a stat maker too. Are
a stat interpreter, brock Bowers, give me some interpretation of
these stats.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
What did the numbers say?
Speaker 4 (39:21):
Because he looked like brock Bowers again, what did the
numbers say about his impact on the offense? Because I
know what my eyeballs say when I watch him.
Speaker 15 (39:27):
The eyeballs everything says brock Bowers is a superstar. We
all saw this years ago in Georgia. The Raiders average
one more yard per play when he's on the field
not And then for you fantasy nerds, I know Florio's
still listening to the show. Two point six yards per
rout run. That's the holy grail of what you're looking
for in wide receivers. That's third amongst tight ends. And
when we go back to EPA, that's expected points at it.
(39:49):
That's the holy grail of analytics, nerd stats. He had
one of the best games since twenty twenty with sixteen
expected points at it, his three touchdowns, nine receptions over
hundred yards. He is the straw that starts to drink
for Chip Kelly and this Raiders offense. It's so important
to have Bowers back in the lineup.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
The nerds favorite segment of the week here on the
Insider Sam Schwartztein. You can catch him every Thursday night
on Prime Vision with Next Gen Stats, Alternate stream on
Prime Video. Thursday's coverage of the Raiders and Broncos on
Prime Video and NFL Plus begins at seven pm Eastern

and the rest of the nerds next week. Here's a
(40:29):
look at the week nine Pepsi zero Sugar Rookie of
the Week nominees. You can vote for the Pepsi zero
Sugar Rookie of the Week at nfl dot com slash Rookies.
The winner will be announced every Thursday during the regular season.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
Cast them votes like he did.
Speaker 6 (40:43):
Cast the vote.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Today, right, just different kind of voting. We got more
insiders coming up next.
Speaker 2 (40:59):
Today in mad Libs, Tom Brady reveals his dog Juny
was cloned from beloved pet Lua, who died in twenty
twenty three. Ian Rappaport, are you in or out on
cloning man's best friend.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
I'm just upset that my wife won't let us have
a dog.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
I don't really care about Tom Brady's dog, Like he
doesn't have enough nice things. He's got to have the
same loving dog that he had before. Brady's fine, he's rich,
he owns a team, He's.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
Got all the things in the world. I want a dog.
I deserve a dog. Mike dogs an in game analyst.
That's all.
Speaker 5 (41:35):
He's good.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
Clone himself next.
Speaker 5 (41:37):
Don't put it past him. He'll do anything he will.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
I'll be right
