Speaker 1 (00:10):
Who needs an elbow. Jade Daniels may not be done
just yet. Ositive medical reports give the quarterback a chance
to return this season. Can the Commanders stay afloat long
enough to make it worth his while? We will tell
you everything we know about the road ahead in Washington.
The Colts and Falcons have landed in Germany, and Silver
(00:31):
and Tripid correspondence. That's right, that's bear and a helmet
will join the show. Actually no, it's Jane Slater and
Stacy Dale's quit. The latest ahead of the first NFL
game in London, a saucy matchup to go with your
curry worst on Sunday morning, take around with the main course,
a drink and baked feast between two of the NFL's
toughest teams. Brian Maudiger will be here to break down
(00:52):
what New England is doing right and how Tampa could
attack it. Welcome inside with the Insiders, presented by Pressive
Insurance alongside he at Rappaport, I am Tom PELISERA week
ten is off and running. It's at least walking, it's
kind of limping along out of the gate. But we
got a lot of action ahead on Sunday and some
(01:14):
of those games once again are going to be impacted
by quarterback injuries. File this one away for every Friday.
Forty nine Ers quarterback Brock Party officially questionable and could
be active, but Mac Jones will start again on Sunday
against the Rams. According to coach Kyle Shanahan. This is
now the sixth consecutive game and eighth overall. Party has
missed the season because of his turf toe injury. Continues
(01:37):
to get closer return to the lineup, but for now,
another Mac attack for a big NFC West showdown. Jets
coach Aaron Glenn once again refusing to name his starting
quarterback for their game on Sunday against the Browns. It
did work lass time when Justin Fields came out and
played by far his best game as the Jets got
their first win. Hard to imagine that it will not
(01:57):
be Fields again in the lineup on but Tyrod Taylor,
who was out last week with a knee injury, is
off the injury report and available as well.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Benching Justin Fields after the best game of this season
would certainly be something. Meanwhile, Jonathan Gannon, the head coach
of the Arizona Cardinals, are easy for me to say,
was much more clear about his quarterback decision early this week,
naming Jacoby Brissette his starter. A day later, Kyler Murray
goes on IR No surgery is not considered for Kyler Murray.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
He just needs to get better, needs to get.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
Fully healthy from that mid foot spring gold to take
the next four weeks to do so. Meanwhile, Tom it
is Jacoby Perssett's team going forward.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
Remains to be seen.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
When it will be Shador Sanders team for the Cleveland
Browns not yet. Doesn't seem to be close, but at
least he is expected to be on the game day
roster if you're dealing with the back injury the last
couple of weeks. He is going to be the number
two quarterback for the Cleveland Browns this week against the Jets.
Dylan Gabriel is still the starter, but Shador said one
(03:00):
snap away, which means a lot of cutaways just like
this during the game time.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
In Washington, Marcus Mariota back in the saddle for the
third time this season. Set to start at least the
next two games for the Commanders, beginning Sunday against the Lions.
That's because Jaden Daniels remains out indefinitely because of his
dislocated elbow.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
But Ian some good news that you brought.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Us this morning on the medical front that keeps the
door open to potentially return this season.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
What's the latest.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Here's my understanding of Jaden daniels medical situation. After consulting
with some of the nation's experts, and really this is
something they took several opinions and several days the determination
was made. Surgery is not necessary. That is a good sign.
Limited to no ligament damage, that is a good sign. Look,
anytime you dislocated elbow, there's going to be something there,
but nothing that requires surgery, nothing major. Truly amazing and
(03:53):
excellent news for Jaden Daniels. Also not expected to be
placed immediately on injury reserve.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
That is also a very good sign.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
What we know, and really what we've known tom since
of gaining the week, is that Marcus Marriod is going
to start this game, going to start the next game,
and then there is the buy and at that point,
bringing Jayden Daniels back at least comes to the forefront
becomes a possibility. There's the medical part of it, which
is what I just explained, and then there's the actual
coaching decision, organizational decision part of it. If the commander's
(04:23):
record is such that there is no chance at anything,
does bringing your franchise quarterback back at less than hundred
percent makes sense? That is a decision that Adam Peters,
Josh Harris, and Dan Quinn are all going to have
to make if they are in the hunt. If there's
stuff to play for and he is capable of coming back,
then sure he is going to come back. The best
news though, he is going to be okay. It's just
(04:45):
all the other decisions revolving around the commanders are going
to have to be made over the next several weeks.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Tom commanders badly need a win, but really, who needs offense?
Not the Broncos last night who came in on a
six game streak. And don't worry, we're going to keep
this brief. Second quarter Broncos down seven to nothing, second
in goal from the seven, Bonicks fired into the end
zone for Troy Franklin. That is a seven yard touchdown
and tied it up at seven to third quarter, now
(05:14):
still tied Raiders first and ten from their own forty nine.
Gino Smith looking underneath for Ashton Genty, who cannot hang on.
This is night of missed opportunities for the Raiders. That
becomes a pick and that's all we're going to show you.
The Broncos kicked the field goal. The final was ten
to seven. Hey, a win is a win, right, Sean Payton.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
We got to clean up the penalties. We had to
clean up some of the execution, and that is an
ongoing thing that probably never ends. There's you know, you
search for that shangri la right now. You know we're
team sitting at eight wins. I think we're the only
team sitting there.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
The fighters in this dog now, I ain't no doubt
about it.
Speaker 6 (05:53):
So I really I couldn't wait to tell them how
proud I was of the way they competed.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
And so we all know in this room we won't
do something. So it's just a matter of time.
Speaker 5 (06:04):
See what happens.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
The Raiders did something today, firing their special teams coordinator
Tom McMahon for shake up amidst a disappointing start to
the twenty twenty five season. Ian and they've also got
a quarterback who has shown flashes at times. Didn't get
a lot of help from his receivers last night, but
Gino Smith was really hurting by the end of that game.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
He was really hard and he was limping around. Went
into the medical ten actually a couple of times. At
one point Kenny Pickett took some snaps, I believe, just
to finish the series.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Then Gino Smith went back. It is this play right here.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
I think they thought that it was the tripping of
the ankle was actually the player colliding and basically giving
him the worst Charlie horse you could imagine, right They
are ouch, it hurts just looking at it. Pete Carroll
called it a quad contusion. Mainly his coaches. They used
the word Charlie horse. It doesn't seem serious. It was serious,
and that it hurt very bad, but doesn't seem to
be serious enough Tom that it will keep Gino out
(06:58):
long term, said Pete Carroll mentioned the changes. You really
do have to wonder if this play continues with Gino
Smith and if Aidan O'Connell continues to get healthy, is
there something they do at the quarterback position?
Speaker 3 (07:11):
Because you know, the.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Broncos time could talk about how bad their offense was.
They won, the Raiders didn't kind of forces them to
consider everything moving forward.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
One thing that's been going right for the Broncos offense
has been the play at JK. Dobbins, but he got
banged up late in that game yesterday as well posted
something on social media then we can't show you on TV,
taking aim at the lack of calls and action with
regard to hip drop tackles. Dobbins injured late in the
game on this play right here, gets taken down by
(07:42):
Tyree Wilson. He actually went to the sideline briefly, came
back in the game, carrying the ball two more times
for twelve yards to put away that win. Minus standing
is though Dobbin suffered a foot injury on that play.
That's one of the concerns with those hip drop tackles.
He's getting the second opinion on it. We may know
more here in the next couple of days. They got
a longer week, but something to watch with one of
(08:04):
the guys who has been very effective for that Broncos
offense this season. The season's heating up, but prices are
cooling down. NFL Sunday Ticket is now one hundred and
fifty dollars for new users for the rest of the season.
Subscribe now to watch more of your favorite teams out
of market Sunday games, terms and embargoes apply.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
You can watch.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
The Rams will have their star wide receiver Pooka Nakua
out there, officially off the injury report and good to
go on Sunday for a massive game against the forty
nine ers. Jared Verse and that tough Rams defense surely
ready to go as well.
Speaker 7 (08:50):
Are you not harder than that?
Speaker 8 (08:51):
Right now? You're not go harder than that? Boy? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (09:05):
One? Not enough? One?
Speaker 5 (09:06):
Not enough?
Speaker 9 (09:07):
You hungry now?
Speaker 8 (09:08):
Huh?
Speaker 3 (09:08):
I said, look at you, Jared Verse.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
One of the reasons the Rams have one of the
most fearsome friends in the NFL. Another big reason our
guy right here, Kobe Turner joined us once again on
The Insiders with me, Tom Pellicero as well as Ian Rappaport.
We had a lot of serious football stuff to get
into here with the Kobe, but I want to start
on this. We had your other teammate, Quinton Lake on
the show recently and I asked him a question about
(09:32):
if he fell into a cage of hungry lions, what
three teammates he'd want to jump in. The first name
he said was Jared Verse, because and I quote, he'll
never shut up and it will distract the lions.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
You can talk a lot too. Who's the better talker
between the toy of you guys.
Speaker 10 (09:50):
I definitely say I will use versus a distraction off
formerly a plan to get up out of there. I
was thinking he would have said Kevin Dotson, that would
have been my second choice.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
He had him on the list.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
He had Dotson on the list too, because he's the
biggest human that anybody's ever seen.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
Who are right? He got Dotson in the cage. Who
else is coming in the cage with you?
Speaker 10 (10:09):
Who else is coming in the cage? I definitely like
versus a distraction. We can kind of plot to get
up out of there for sure. Dot and then Hm,
I feel like Lamb Man he got some he got
some crazy punches this year, so maybe he can deal
some knockout blows on some of them lines or something
like that.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Lambman's having quite a season. You guys are having quite
a season. One thing we just found out over the
last couple hours is that the forty nine ers are
going to start mac Jones once again. Brock Perty may
be active. Maybe the backup of mac Jones once again.
As you hear that news and no saying nothing against
mac or Brockaway. Does that matter to you? Does that
(10:50):
change anything? Is that what you guys have been planning
for this week?
Speaker 10 (10:55):
Well, certainly there are different quarterbacks and they present different things.
Max one of those guys who's a little bit more
stable in the pocket, but he's able to get the
ball out fast, and so they present different issues to
us for sure. But at the end of the day,
it doesn't matter who's going to be back there. It's
the forty nine ers, just a big game for us,
a revenge game, get back game, and we're just excited
to go into Santa Clara and hopefully come out with
(11:17):
a W.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
That's the last loss that you guys had was to
the forty nine ers several weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
What did you learn.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
I'm sure you went back through that game just based
upon the way they played out, and what's improved for
you guys since then, where maybe you're a better team
than you were a month ago when you face them.
Speaker 10 (11:35):
Yeah, Well, the first things first is we did not
come out that game hot. We have to be able
to have a much better start off the jump, and
we know the energy that it requires.
Speaker 11 (11:45):
We know what it takes.
Speaker 10 (11:46):
We had plenty of opportunities to win that game and
we just did not find a way to win, and
they did, and so props to them. But at the
end of the day, we have to come out a
whole lot hotter and be ready to go from the
jump and really take the fight to them. So there's
a lot that we've learned. We've grown a ton as
a complete team. We've really started to come together more
and more as each of the weeks have gone by.
(12:07):
And I mean, you turn on the tape and you
look at where we're at now versus where we're at
in that game, and you see so many things that
are like, Okay, our standard has elevated.
Speaker 11 (12:16):
We're a different team now.
Speaker 10 (12:17):
And so it's about going out there and putting that
on the tape against a good forty nine ers team.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Do you guys have I think this is really, without question,
one of the best fronts from one of the best
front sevens in the NFL. Tom mentioned it right up
the gump and Jared versus someone who jumps off the
screen or jumps off the field. You got plenty of them, though,
got Byron Young, you got fish, you got a lot
of them on a daily basis in practice, what is
it like, I mean, are you learning from them? Is
it a constant competition? Is it constant conversation? How do
(12:46):
you guys kind of deal with each other and mix
with each other at practice?
Speaker 10 (12:50):
Ultimately, you know, the best rush units able to rush
four as one or five as one, and we're able
to do that because of the way that we get
after it.
Speaker 11 (12:57):
In practice. There's no wasted reps, there's no days off.
Speaker 10 (13:01):
We're going full speed and we're really trying to execute
at the highest level. So by the time Sunday comes around,
we know exactly what it looks like. We're able to
know what's happening. Even if we don't call something. We're
able to naturally understand the way that the rush is
going to unfold based off of how we know each
other move. And so yeah, we just continue to learn
off of each other, continue to see things that we
(13:22):
want to emulate in each other's game. And then at
the end of the day, when you have a group
like ours, they're going to continue to elevate the standard
and continue to push each other to reach that standard,
whether that be getting out of the stack, running to
the ball. It's all of the little things that make
us as good as we are and that are going
to take us to that next level.
Speaker 11 (13:40):
Gooby.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
We always enjoy watching you play, also enjoy watching you
celebrate big plays. One of the recent celebrations stood out
because you went full Showyotani Dodgers with your celebration after
taking down Taysom Hill. Two part question one were you
planning this to go Dodgers?
Speaker 11 (13:55):
And two?
Speaker 3 (13:56):
Could Kobe Turner have been a pro baseball player?
Speaker 10 (14:00):
And I started playing baseball right before I got into
high school, But I love that I played some catcher,
some second base, third base. They didn't want to put
me at shortstop though, so I don't know about all that,
but yeah, I mean, we were up that the night before,
we were watching the game, and I'm pretty sure we
were about to have a team meeting. We pushed back
our team meeting some more minutes so that we can
(14:21):
watch it go into overtime. And you should have seen
the reaction from all of the guys.
Speaker 12 (14:25):
Man.
Speaker 10 (14:26):
We were just all super excited to have the Dodgers
be able to bring back another championship to LA and
really to just watch a great game of baseball. So
from that moment, I was like, if I get a sack,
I got to do my signature celebration. But if I
get a TFO, I got to be able to represent
the Dodgers. And what a big accomplishment for them to
have the first back to back championship in what twenty
(14:46):
five years or something like that. So I had to
give a shout out to those guys down the street
in our city.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Yeah, I was not that happy. I'm a Mets fan.
Anytime the Dodgers win, it just pains my heart. I
was actually rude for everyone to lose in the playoffs.
Speaker 11 (15:00):
Anyway, I have.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Another non football question for you. This doesn't have anything
to do with, you know, being in a pit or
whatever Tom was talking about. You are a singer, and
a very good one. The conductor as you are called.
There's a couple other guys in the NFL who can
really sing. Jordan Malatta comes to my brain right off
the top. One how much practice? I obviously you practiced
football a lot. How much singing practice do you do?
(15:22):
And two do all the guys in the NFL who
sing know each other?
Speaker 11 (15:27):
Not really, that would be kind of cool if you did.
Speaker 10 (15:30):
I heard of my lot of singing a little bit
because I did the mass singer and so as I'm
on there doing the mass singer, I'm kind of looking
up what other athletes did something, and I saw that
he was on there for a little while, so and
that was a.
Speaker 11 (15:41):
Good form of friendly competition too.
Speaker 10 (15:44):
It was kind of he didn't know that we were competing,
but I was on a later season and I was like, Okay,
I got to try to make it farther than this
guy did. But it's cool to be able to see
the stuff that he does. Yeah, yeah, I guess it is.
It's just cool to kind of to do that. And
then as far as I mean, you just kind of
hear songs all the time. I'm always listening to music.
(16:05):
As far as formal practice, like I have a degree
in it. I got a degree in math and a
degree in music while I was at the University of Richmond,
So I did a lot more formal practicing, whether that
be arranging songs for acapella, whether that be composing my
own songs, whether that be creating in different lenses. But nowadays,
I mean, I have my guitar setup. I just made
(16:28):
a little studio set up at the house. It's really
my way to go and de stress from different weeks
or if the power goes out like it did this
a couple of days ago.
Speaker 11 (16:37):
I just turned on a candle and I'm playing guitar.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Gotta be I think it's safe to say the only
man with a math degree and a music degree who
also has a football degree in the NFL. Look forward
your math rock albums sometime after you're done playing this game. Kobe,
thanks a ton man as always appreciate you being here.
Speaker 11 (16:57):
Dude.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Good luck this weekend.
Speaker 11 (16:58):
I appreciate you, guys.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Snooze off game on the NFL takes the field in
Berlin for the first time, as the Falcons square off
against the Colts in a historic early morning showdown. So
get ready to wake up and watch, because here our
stars come out in the morning. It is Sunday Morning
Football Sunday nine to thirty am Eastern only on NFL
Network and streaming with NFL Plus subscription required for NFL Plus.
(17:26):
Visit Plus dot NFL dot com for terms our Jane
Slater and Stacy Dales are already in Berlin.
Speaker 7 (17:33):
Well Dale's went an exciting assignment that we both landed
This week the NFL's first game in Berlin, Colts Falcons
three point thirty. Kick here at Berlin time, nine thirty Eastern.
We could talk about a lot of elements this game,
but obviously the biggest one Sauce Gardner. You're gonna be
on the sidelines for this game. You were in the
production meetings. How excited was this team to get.
Speaker 13 (17:56):
A piece like that in their secondary Yeah, I think
pretty blown away actually, and I'm sure I'll be talking
at length Jane Er on game day about it when
I'm able to reveal a little bit more, because I
have had conversations about it, and this team from ownership
down really excited.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
But take that to another level because they really feel
like they've added not just an all Pro player, but
in an immediate impact player who brings flexibility to defensive
coordinator lou Anna Rumo. And I'm going to tell you this,
he was full go. Sauce was in practice yesterday, I believe,
clearing concussion protocol. He's going to have no restrictions on Sunday.
(18:34):
This is going to be really exciting to see how
lou uses him against the Atlanta Falcons.
Speaker 13 (18:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (18:39):
When I reached out to someone of the building. This
week's stays. I said, so, how much is he actually
going to play? I mean, I think there's always as
fans and those of us in the media that we
think that there needs to be some level of acclamation. Yeah,
I was told every play. In fact, one person had
told me I wish I had taken notes as well
as he did. I might have done better in school
and listening to Sauce this week, he said, I'm all
about Hull and football. Nothing changes for him. So I
(19:02):
think so exciting, particularly when you consider it DeForest Butner
didn't make the trip. They're starting defensive tackle. You've been
in the locker room, you cover the Colts extensively. How
big of a loss is that and how do you
anticipate them stepping up, especially when this secondary is still
trying to find their way well to Forest Buckner.
Speaker 5 (19:18):
Is one of the best to do it at his
position in the National Football League. But I will tell
you this, this is probably, in all the years I've
covered the Indianapolis Colts, the best culture that I can
recall and feel with their locker room right now, I
have a feeling they're going to come together looking to
avenge their Pittsburgh loss last week against the Hungary Falcons
team on Sunday, and.
Speaker 7 (19:37):
What a message that ownership to the front office since
to this team, we believe in you. You're seven and two.
We're going all in.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Time now for good coverage presented by Progressive Insurance, These
Steelers defense had a season nine six takeaways in that
week nine win over the Colts, second game this season
which Pittsburgh has had at least five takeaways, which is
as many of those games as the rest of the
NFL combined.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
How are they doing it? Brian Baldeger, Boy.
Speaker 6 (20:08):
The Steelers defense rebounded last week, shutting down the number
one offense football, the Indianapolis Colts. And I want to
show you some of the things that they did. And
it started with some differences in personnel on the back end.
Two new safeties including Jalen Ramsey right here and Kyle
Dugger who they just just acquired, So two new safeties,
(20:29):
and what that did was it allowed the corners to
really match up and lock up underneath, knowing they had
safety help. And it forced Daniel Jones to hold the
ball on a number of occasions, and here he ends
up getting sacked by Joey Porter out of bounds behind
the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 11 (20:44):
Now CJ.
Speaker 6 (20:45):
Watt got some one on ones against Braden Smith, the
right tackle from the Indianapolis Colts, and this was his
single best pass rush of the year. He beats him
with the hook, he turns the corner and with his
left hand he gets the ball out and recovers the fumble.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Sack fumble, fumble recovery.
Speaker 6 (21:01):
That ignited the Steelers defense that got aggressive with those
safeties behind. You could see that Alex Heighsmith right here,
Keanu Benton, Nick Kurbbig all win their pass rushes and
Daniel Jones had no place to go. He was sacked
a number of times. Now, you watch Peyton Wilson, the
second year linebacker here is he was everywhere. He bats
this ball down, he's in the pass lane, he bats
(21:23):
it right to his partner, Jack Sawyer on the other
side for an interception. And then you know, with those
safeties back in Indianapolis playing from behind, they played like
a sticky matchup zone underneath, all right. They locked up
the receivers. Daniel Jones is just trying to find a
little bit of time here. When he steps up, he's
met by the onslaught of defenders, including the two rookies
(21:47):
right here, Derek Harmon and Yer Black, along with high
Smith and herbig and right here herbig number fifty one.
He now becomes a spy on Daniel Jones. When Daniel
Jones stepped up, he stepped up and stripped them of
the ball right there. Another sack forced fumble right there
by the Steelers, you know. And after eight games, the
Steelers are second in the league in takeaways. They got
(22:08):
a bunch last week when they are taking the ball
away and they're giving it back to Aaron Rodgers. This
is a very tough team to beat. The Chargers are
gonna have to take care of the football this week
against a defensive line that really woke up in their
victory against the Colts last Sunday.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Much more to come on this edition of The Insiders,
inclined to look at a matchup of potential MVP contenders.
It's Drake may it's Baker Mayfield. It's our Sarah Walls
breaking it down right after this on The Insiders presented
by Progressive Insurance, Thursday Night.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Football on Prime Video has an East Coast class this week.
Garrett Wilson and the New York Jets cause they traded
everyone else. Visit Drake May and the New England Patriots
in an AFC matchup. It's Jets and P's Thursday eight
fifteen Eastern only on Prime Video. This guy right there
is going to figure prominently. Drake May has been a
(23:10):
revelation this season.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
He has had two.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Hundred bus passing on to one hundred passer rating each
of the last eight games, solidifying himself as one of
the best young quarterbacks in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Just like all the Patriots fans were hoping.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
That god would be the case before the season. Let's
get into it taking a deep look at this offense
from our good friend Brian Baldinger, who gives us his
this XO.
Speaker 6 (23:37):
Well, the New England Patriots are the talk of the
AFC with a big winning streak, the highest rated quarterback
in Drake May, and I want to show you a
little bit about what makes this offense tick right here
and why they have been successful. Why Drake May has
had success.
Speaker 10 (23:50):
Here we go.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
First of all, there are two back offense.
Speaker 6 (23:53):
That means they use a fullback like Jack west over
right here in front of Trevion Henderson, and now you
get the offensive lineman on prade.
Speaker 8 (24:02):
You get Will Campbell, the.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
Rookie, Jared Wilson the rookie, and you get a nice
hole for trey Von Henderson. They run the ball more
than they throw it, but when they do throw it,
they like to take their deep shots. And they got
to protect Drake May this week against Tampa to get
that done. But here, Jamaro Douglas is gonna work down
the field on this due deep.
Speaker 8 (24:19):
Over out and Drake May.
Speaker 6 (24:21):
Look, he's completing almost seventy five percent of his passes,
the best in the league, very accurate on these deep throws,
and they've got players that can get down the field
to make those big plays.
Speaker 8 (24:32):
Now this is the same play.
Speaker 11 (24:34):
Here's the protection hunter.
Speaker 6 (24:35):
Henry, you're gonna chip on this defensive end right here.
Just slow down the rush enough, give Drake May a
lane to step into. And when he gets a clean
shot like that, like he makes most of those, he
makes good throws and good decisions with the ball. When
you're defending Drake May in this offense, you have to
account for him as being a very talented runner, no
(24:56):
matter what it is, a design run or like this,
just this escape, he finds the escape lane. He can
run away from defenders and he can make people miss.
Like you see this week in week out. He's picking
up first downs, he's extending drives, and he knows how
to pick up some artist.
Speaker 8 (25:13):
Now they liked the game plan.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
Here.
Speaker 6 (25:14):
Here he got Damario Douglass on a wheel route lined
up in the backfield against Jalen Walker, the rookie linebacker
from the Falcons, and he beat him clean, and Drake
May dropped it right in the bucket end.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Look.
Speaker 6 (25:25):
I put this game against Cleveland up because I knew
that they would blitz Drake May. But he's been very
good against the blitz this year. He seemed to have
an outlet no matter what you do to him. Here
he finds his tight end right there across the middle.
So we know that Todd Bowles in two weeks to
get ready, is going to want to come after Drake May.
(25:45):
Will he have an answer the way he has during
this wind streak to be able to defeat the blitz
that is sure to come at him.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Great stuff from Baldi on the Brady Bowl Game of
the Year.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Wherret says, Tom Brady, what a surprising he is not unbiased.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
He is fully biased. How about this fact?
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Did you guys know that, for the first time since
two thousand Week one, a Patriots Bucks matchup does not
feature Tom Brady as the starter. That is a truly
ridiculous stat just goes to show you that Brady literally
played absolutely forever. Our good friend Sarah Walsh will be
there hanging out covering this game. Sarah, I know you
(26:26):
follow both these teams very closely. Both these quarterbacks are
having i would say MVP like seasons.
Speaker 3 (26:33):
We talk about MVP.
Speaker 11 (26:34):
It's always like Lamar Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Both these guys should be in the mix.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
What do you see on Sunday from these teams?
Speaker 14 (26:42):
Well, to your point, both of these quarterbacks have been
making MVP cases all season long, and now you've got
a matchup of two teams that right now hold the
two seeds in their respective conferences. And it's because of
that that Drake May said this game has a little
bit extra to and it's easy to understand why he's
saying that. Todd Bowles was absolutely effusive in his praise
(27:03):
of the Patriots quarterback this week. He said he has
been playing out of this world with both his arm
and his legs when he needs to. May has done
a great job. Stefan Diggs has gotten really back into
the mix these last couple of weeks touchdowns and consecutive games,
and when this season started he was still working his
way back from that ACL injury. As for Bowles, quarterback
(27:24):
Baker Mayfield, as everyone knows, has put this team on
his back this entire season. They have been dealing with
massive injuries, especially on offense, so this buy gave them
a chance to reset, and the offense really needed that
because in the last two games before the bye, Baker
had just one passing touchdown. Now still without Mike Evans,
still without Chris Godwin, still without Bucky Irving, and yet
(27:46):
the Buccaneers have an opportunity this weekend with a win
to start the season seven and two for the first
time in more than twenty years. And when you consider
all the guys that have been out ian that's incredibly impressive.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
I mean no doubt. Look, Bucky Irvitt hasn't played in
some times. It's been kind of a little bit of
a curious situation. This Bucks run game as important as
Eddie and considering that they're facing the Patriots defense, which
is as of right now, the best run defense in
the NFL. You got to figure that matchup is going
to be a big one.
Speaker 14 (28:18):
Yeah, this is something the Bucks really want to get
back on track. And the problem is, of course, who
they're dealing with this week. Bucky Irving is going to
miss his fifth straight game, so that's problematic for the Buccaneers.
They have worked their way around it as best they can,
but this is a Bucks team that ranks last when
it comes to yards per carry. I spoke to their
center Graham Barton this week and he said that they've
(28:38):
really been lacking the explosive plays from a year ago.
He told me, we're not necessarily getting stuffed at the
line of scrimmage, but we just haven't had those plays.
He told me that pop, he said, the ones that
go for twenty or thirty yards. And if you look
further into it, the Bucks are the only team in
the league that has not had a running back with
a carry of more than sixteen yards in a game.
(28:59):
To do that, to get on track, you now have
to do it against the Patriots team that is holding
opponents to just seventy five yards on the ground. That's
a ridiculous number. It ranks tops in the league. Graham
also told me that he knows that teams are now
trying to shut down Baker, eliminate what Baker can do
with his legs, because he said, they've seen what he's
been doing right, and now we have to respond and
(29:21):
adjust to what defenses are going to do for us.
But there is one positive and all this litany of
injury news that the Buccaneers have had some good news.
It appears heading their way. Luke Gettike, their right tackle,
should probably be back this week. He has been out
since Week two. They have been reshuffling and reshuffling and
reshuffling this offensive line. I said to Graham Barton, I
(29:41):
go give me the state of the O line. He
goes resilient, He said, it's been a tumultuous year. But
we are not going to whine and complain. We are
going to be critical of ourselves. We're going to take
ownership of it, and we've got to set the tone
every week. But help could become any and at least
they hope.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Good news for the Bills, fantasy teams everywhere. James Cook
is good to go, officially off the injury report. Has
no designation after deal with an injury in the early
portion of the week. He is ready to roll on
Sunday against the Dolphins. The status of TETAROA McMillan more
clouded for the Panthers, popped up on the injury report
(30:19):
with a hamstring during the week. He's officially listed as
questionable to face the Saints. Big game for Carolina coming
off the win over the Packers, t MAC would be
able to make an impact, you would think if he's able.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
To play in that game.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Time now to go inside with NFL Fantasy Live and
more on fallout from injuries and trades and more. It's
our guy, Adam Rank joining me, Tom Pelicero and Ian Rappaport.
Let's start off on the injury side of things here.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Rank.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
Tucker Craft has been a revelation both for the Packers
and fantasy teams this season.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
With him out, who eats in that Green Bay offense.
Speaker 12 (30:56):
Yeah, it's going to be very difficult to try to
replace the production that Tucker Craft. I know a lot
of people are going to pivot to Luke Musgrave and
if you're looking at a next man up type of opportunity,
that is going to be It that is going to
be the.
Speaker 11 (31:07):
Guy on the depth chart.
Speaker 12 (31:10):
However, the one thing that's going to be the toughest
to recreate is what Tucker Craft did after the catch.
He was an absolute yack monster. And as you said,
one of the revelations here in fantasy football this season
for anybody who's spent a top pick getting a guy
like Brock Bauers or Trey McBride or even George Kittle,
Tucker Craft had been that dude, Kim Luke muskgrave be It,
(31:32):
I don't know, but still he's going to have the
opportunity in that Green Bay offense.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Let's talk about the Minnesota Vikings. Our good friend Tom
posts Erro, who you see in this very shot, talk
to Aaron Jones last week, and Aaron Jones told him
that he was likely playing right now, he is listed
as questionable with the shoulder injury, and Aaron Jones told
other people that he is also likely playing.
Speaker 11 (31:56):
That said, what does this.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
Mean for Jordan Mason and his fantasy usage, Well.
Speaker 12 (32:01):
We saw last week Jordan Mason lost a lot of
his efficiency with Aaron Jones there.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
Now, obviously, when.
Speaker 12 (32:07):
It comes to football in general, the Minnesota Vikings are
a much better team when they have both running backs.
They both compliment each other. But the one thing that's
the most frustrating for us fantasy enthusiasts, we want a
singular running back. Want we want to harken back to
the days of Adrian Peterson, of Robert Smith, of Chuck Foreman.
(32:29):
I'm sorry, I know I've lost you.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
I lost you on the last two.
Speaker 12 (32:32):
But there was a time when you could rely on
a single running back to carry the offense in Minnesota.
But if both players are playing, the guy that I
favor is actually Aaron Jones. But if Jordan Mason is
the lone starter, he does have a lot of upside
of that offense.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Chuck Foreman, number forty four, he would have dominated if
fantasy was around, you know, at that particular period in time.
Let's talk about a couple of the trades that happened
this week, rank, including one that kind of got overshadowed
because he and I broke it, like thirty seconds after
one of those Jets trains, Rashid Shahed going from the
Saints to the Seahawks. He's back with Clint Kubiak. What's
(33:08):
the impact of that, No, I love this.
Speaker 12 (33:11):
I think that Rashid Shaheed's going to come in and
make an immediate impact with this Seahawks team. He's going
to have no trouble adjusting to this offense because, as
you said, he played with Clinton Kubiak last season. Knows
the offense, and let's be honest, his role is the
run down the field and get open, something that he's
done very well during his time in New Orleans. Now
you pair him with one of the best deep ball throwers.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
In the NFL.
Speaker 12 (33:34):
I have no doubt that Sam Darnold is going to
go out there and take advantage of this newly acquired
wide receiver this weekend. I feel confident starting Rashid Shahed
in fantasy matchups this week.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Is it similar with Jakobe Meers, the new Jaguars receiver
considering Travis Hunter not going to play this week in
the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 12 (33:56):
You know, and Brian Thomas Junior is also fighting an
injury as well. And one of the things that he
really like about Jacoby Myers as he goes out and
he does Yeah, he's out, so he's going to get
some opportunity, He's going to get some run.
Speaker 11 (34:05):
But one of the things that.
Speaker 12 (34:06):
I really notice from our friend Liam Cohen this week
is that he said that Parker Washington was going to
remain in the slot.
Speaker 11 (34:12):
And one of the things that we've.
Speaker 12 (34:13):
Seen out of Trevor Lawrence's season is that he likes
to target his slot receiver has already done a nice
job of identifying Parker Washington and getting him the football.
So I do believe that Jacoby Myers is going to
have an impact for our friends down in Douvall. I
think ultimately the guy that we want to go with
in this offense is going to be Parker Washington.
Speaker 8 (34:38):
What are they.
Speaker 9 (34:49):
I never know what to do in those situations where
the bat comes back around.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
I'm like, because you want to like, you're going.
Speaker 9 (34:59):
It, keep rolling, keep going sick. That's what I'm talking about, bro.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
The Seahawks offense has been absolutely rolling and one of
the big reasons why joins me right now on the Insiders,
Ken Walker, the Seahawks standout running back. Thank you very
much for hanging out with us. Appreciate you. I want
to start right there, uh the subject of that wired
Sam Darnald came to you guys this offseason, and look,
(35:41):
there's a lot to like on your offense, and we're
going to get right into it. But what that guy's
done has been impressive. What have you thought about the
fit of Donald in this offense and how successful you
guys have been.
Speaker 15 (35:54):
Yeah, I feel like he made our team great. You know,
he's a great leader. He comes in and work every
day and uh, you know you can sit it on
the field every Sunday. So yeah, he just he's just
a playmaker and a great leader and a great player
for our for our organization.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
You are a playmaker yourself, having another another excellent season.
Speaker 11 (36:16):
I'm just curious.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
You know, we in the NFL will make a lot
about Bell Cow starting back. You were in a carry
sharing situation with Zach. It seems like from the outside
you guys are good with this. What is your thought
on on kind of this sharing versus being just the
guy and that's.
Speaker 15 (36:35):
It, I believe, man, is that compliment each other, you know,
and we split carriers or whatever, we compliment each other.
Speaker 11 (36:43):
You know.
Speaker 15 (36:43):
He goes in and even in practice, he go in
for downs or whatever and I go in for downs.
So you know, we gotta we gotta understanding of that
with one another. And you know that's my brother at
the end of the day, and you know, we're just
gonna keep continuing to do what we gotta do to
you know, impact the team in a positive way.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
Do you guys compete with each other when it comes
to carries or like what you do on a particular
play or is it just full like is it a
competition or is it full support of high fives when.
Speaker 11 (37:11):
You come off and like that.
Speaker 15 (37:13):
Yeah, it's always full support, you know, high fives when
he scored a touchdown, you know him, high five in
him and he'll do the same for me. So I'm
not in competition with my with my teammates. You know,
we're competing against a team that we play against on
Sundays and Mondays. You know.
Speaker 2 (37:30):
So you guys were in the news, not the running backs,
but the receivers, and look you got some. You got
some good receivers on your team, Jackson, Smith and Jag
been one of the best in the NFL, no doubt.
But you got a big time addition this week with
Rashid Shahed. I'm sure you've seen what he's done with
the Saints. You've seen him the last couple of days
in practice. What did you think of that edition. Did
(37:51):
you have any heads up? First of all, what do
you think when it became clear that you guys were
trading for him?
Speaker 16 (37:58):
Honestly, I didn't have any heads up.
Speaker 15 (38:00):
Found out the day of when he was like coming
in and everything, and uh, I honestly was excited.
Speaker 16 (38:03):
Everybody excited to have him here. You know, we've seen
what he can do.
Speaker 15 (38:06):
You know, we watched you know, at the beginning of
the season, we watched a lot of tape on the Saints,
Saints and everything, so we know he can do.
Speaker 16 (38:13):
You know, he speedy guy, playmaker, and we love having
him here.
Speaker 15 (38:17):
You know, he gonna make a big difference in our team.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
What does that do for a team?
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Like?
Speaker 2 (38:23):
You guys are good anyway, and like what you did
last game was that's a whole other story.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
I mean that was that.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Looked easy, honestly, But what kind of buzz does that
bring when you guys like there's all sorts of buzz
in the NFL anyway around the trade deadline. You know
you're getting a guy, you know he's coming in. What
is that like in the locker room?
Speaker 16 (38:43):
It's great, you know we're gonna Uh, I feel like
he just gonna.
Speaker 15 (38:47):
Make a difference, you know, when we get other players
to come help us and compliment us with what we're
trying to get to. Uh as a team. Uh, it's
gonna be it's gonna be different, man. And I feel
like we're going on the right in the right direction
to go to where we want to go to. You know,
one of the guys he's familiar with you, he is
familiar with Is Klint Kubiak your offensive coordinator? You know,
(39:08):
I don't know how much you follow this in the offseason,
but you know, he comes in and when he was
with the Saints, when they were healthy, they were balling,
they weren't healthy, it wasn't so good. But he has
come in and it looks like has really helped put
your personnel and position to make place. All you guys,
what has he been like helping you guys reach the
(39:28):
level of success offensively that you've had. Yeah, I believe
he's good at putting players in a position that they're
good at. You know, just like when Shaheed got here,
we're gonna refeel me he's gonna be able to make
plays and the way Jackson's making plays and everybody compliments
everybody in this offense, and I feel like Clint has
done a great job with that from the start of
(39:50):
the season and to where we are now.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
Well, you guys got the Cardinals coming up this Sunday
gonna be a great one. And look, if you got
continue to do what you're going to be doing, Seahawks
are going to keep being in the news because you
guys are absolutely balling. Ken, thank you very much for
joining us on the Insiders. Really appreciate you. I appreciate
you having me.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Fun one for Seattle coming up, fun one for me.
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Last night on the Amazon postgame show, I talked about
my books for Better or Worse.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
There's the kids in the Foundation shoe shout out to them. Anyway,
we'll be back.
Speaker 11 (40:37):
I'm curious. I'm looking at your bookshelf there. What was
the Tim Tebow book?
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Well, fits, I haven't read a lot of these books.
I open them and then you put and sometimes they
take a picture of social media and then what you
do is push it right into the bookshelf and then
you just move up.
Speaker 5 (41:01):
Sweating with that question.
Speaker 14 (41:02):
We ask you some hard questions around here, and you
got all the info.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
It's slippers if you're wearing slippers.
Speaker 14 (41:08):
I know it's because you work twenty four hours a day,
we appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
How do the slippers affect your ability to not sweat
on TV?
Speaker 11 (41:17):
And so here's what happens.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
So I wear slippers when I'm doing my TNF nightcap hit,
and when my feet get a little hot, it makes
the rest of my body hot. So therefore I sweat,
whereas right now wearing regular sneakers and socks, I'm totally cool.
Just a unique thing that happened only during the night show,
aren't you.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
That was more sweat though, than you should reasonably get,
as you know, a middle aged man like I think.
Plus you get all that time down there read a book.
You have my Dad's book on the shelf.
Speaker 11 (41:48):
Back. I'll fix it up.
