Speaker 1 (00:10):
You didn't dream it, Colts fans. Sauce Gardner is officially
in Indianapolis before heading to Berlin for his debut in
the Horseshoe. Bryan Moldinger joins us tonight to talk about
how hot Sauce could start early Sunday morning against the Falcons.
Despite an onslaught of injuries, the Bucks are still on
top of the NFC South and Ricky wide receiver Tess

(00:33):
Johnson is just the latest reason why. Tess joins the
show tonight to talk about his highlight reel start and
Sunday's showdown with the Patriots. Miss out on your favorite
waiver wire target. Staring at a gaping hole in your
Week ten fantasy lineup, Nobody better than Marcus Grant to
give you some sleepers before your season hits the snooze.

(00:55):
Welcome inside with the Insiders, presented by Progressive Insurance. It's
alongside Judy Batista. I am Tom Peliserro. We are on
the eve of the kickoff to Week ten of the
NFL season, the exact midway point in the season.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
We're past the trade deadline, we're rolling to.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
The second half, and we've got more quarterback news as
we head up toward Sunday. We begin in Arizona, where
the Cardinals officially placed Kyler Murray on injured reserve today,
knocking him out for at least the next four more
games because of his foot injury. Jonathan Gannon had already
announced Jacoby Brissette would start again on Sunday against Seattle.

(01:33):
Now it is a longer absence for Murray, whom Gannon
said is not healthy enough to play, and thus Gannon
said it is best for everyone to let Murray focus
on his recovery. Texans quarterback CJ. Stroud also will not
play this week, according to coach Tamiko Ryans, meaning Davis
Mills gets the start for a big division game on

(01:54):
Sunday against the Jaguars.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Stroud suffered a.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Concussion on this play last week, still in the concussion protocol,
and now Judy is set to miss at least one game.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Boardy nine Ers quarterback Brock Party is still limited in
practice today as he recovers from his turf toe injury,
although Kyle Shanahan said the plan is for him to
take more first team reps this week, so that's certainly
a positive development. Party has not played since Week four,
though with the turf toe injury that continues to linger
in Washington. The Commander's plan to have a final medical

(02:29):
meeting today discussing all of the opinions, second opinion's, third
opinions on Daniel's dislocated elbow injury and make a plan
for going forward. They should have a final decision by
the end of the week, but certainly it's going to
be a while tom before we see Jade Daniels back
on the field.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Bill's running back James Cook did not practice today because
a foot slash ankle injury. Officially DNP because of an
ankle on the injury report, Coachean McDermott said it was
something that came up during last week's game and the
Cook is just sore. Certainly, though, with one of the
most productive players in the NFL, something to monitor leading
up to a division game on Sunday at Miami. Rico

(03:07):
Daudel also did not practice as the Panthers lead running
back deals with a quad receps injury. Coach Dave Canalis said,
though they're just being smart with him, adding we're counting
on him this weekend. Panthers host these Saints on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Sauce, Gardner, and Quinn Williams. We just put up the
Jets logo, but no more. They joined their new teams today.
Sauce is actually still in the concussion protocol, but he
did practice fully today and back at the Jets, general
manager Darren Mugi and coach Aaron Glenn talked about the
blockbuster trades.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
I know it gives us good flexibility going in to
the draft this year and next year. So I'm excited
about having that flexibility. And you know, the draft's a
long way away. There's a lot to happen between now
and April and then especially the twenty twenty seven. But yeah, darn.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
Darren Breeze Hall, what went into if you're going to
trade these two guys? What went into not trading Breeze
because it would seem like the guy who's depending free agent,
uh would be part of the would be part of
the teardown here.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
I wouldn't call it a teardown And I understand the question.
But like I said, through these processes, we talk about
a lot of things, and we we field a lot
of calls, and we got values and Bres the talented player,
and he's going to help us compete and win games
the rest of the season.

Speaker 6 (04:29):
Listen, I want this to be a team that the
fans are proud of.

Speaker 7 (04:32):
But again.

Speaker 6 (04:34):
I never said that we're going to be proud of
them right now. At some point, I want this to
be a team that this that the fans are proud of,
and I still I still stick with that, you know,
and I will still say that this is a team
that the fans will be proud of.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
At some point.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
As Aaron Glenn said, why would you trade your two
best defensive players?

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Well, this is why you would consider doing it.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
Look at this draft pick holl five first round over
the next two drafts, three second round picks over the.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Next two drafts.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Certainly they need a lot to restock this roster. They
need to get a quarterback, but they certainly have plenty
of ammunition. Here's the reaction from Jets fans today.

Speaker 8 (05:18):
I want to talk about Sauce Gardener. We can start
calling him ravy gardener now, well.

Speaker 7 (05:25):
He's gone gardener.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Now we can start calling him nothing because he's going
to be irrelevant as far as we're concerned in New York.

Speaker 8 (05:31):
Yeah, but it was the sauce and gravy thing.

Speaker 7 (05:34):
Remember, remember, I get it. I know you do. We
got it. Love you guys. Oh do you like the trade?

Speaker 8 (05:42):
I like the trade. I don't mind who first rounders?
Of course.

Speaker 7 (05:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (05:46):
I gotta tell you.

Speaker 8 (05:47):
Find up as a Jet fan, I could finally come
out of hiding.

Speaker 10 (05:50):
I can win my Jets gear again.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 8 (05:53):
This is good stuff.

Speaker 9 (05:54):
Two first round picks.

Speaker 10 (05:56):
Absolutely, I mean I get I get wanting to get
rid of st I get it. There was a couple
of concussions there. The play is tailed off, but man,
it is completely sobering to think how far we really
are from competing. And then you look at the Colts.
They're seven and two, maybe the best team in the AFC.

(06:16):
He think they're going to be in the high twenties
maybe the next two years. It's not that exciting, guys.

Speaker 8 (06:22):
I got home from cataract surgery and I was I
read the news and I was like, somebody pinching.

Speaker 7 (06:27):
How'd you read the news?

Speaker 2 (06:28):
You read it or you heard it?

Speaker 7 (06:29):
You read it right after Stoa.

Speaker 8 (06:31):
I heard it.

Speaker 7 (06:32):
Read it.

Speaker 8 (06:32):
A friend texted me. I was like, this can't be real.
It's really first rabits for a guy that can't even
tackle me. I mean, I'm loving this trade. I'm going
to get a Moojie jersey tomorrow. Plus Monnie Mitchell. Plus
I think he was a first or second round picked
this Mitchell kid.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
We can do an entire psychological study or an hour
long show solely on the condition that allows fans to
so identify with those who continually disappoint them. That's for
another day, Judy. But when you're talking about the approach
of the Jets trade away two of their best players
and getting this hole, you understand why there might be

(07:13):
some mixed feelings among those who have ridden this roller
coast here for oh, I don't know, a few decades.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
Yeah, here's my pet theory on this that fantasy football
has made everybody an amateur general manager, and so everybody's
really excited about draft picks now and not the fact
that they're going to have to sit through some probably
very unsightly football for the rest of the season and
they are going through a total withdrawal. I know, Darren
Mugi said he wouldn't call it a teardown. It's pretty

(07:43):
close to a teardown though, when you get rid of
your two best defensive players.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
I did a winners and.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Losers column coming off the trade deadline last night, and
I put Jets fans in the losers column because they're
going to endure now another rebuild.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
They have been through so many of them.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
And these were two not just of their best players,
these were two fan favorites. These were two players who
it looked like were going to be Jets for life,
cornerstone kind of Jets, and now they are both gone.
The play has already not been very good this season. Obviously,
it's been a very very disappointing start to the season
for the New York Jets, and it's probably going to

(08:23):
get worse before it gets much better. And it's not
going to get much better for quite a while because
they've got a draft players and then they've got to
develop them, and they've got a long way to go
to do that.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
Tom If you want to be an optimist or just
understand the Jets thinking here, the biggest thing is you're
not going to win in the NFL without a quarterback.
The fact you have two first round picks in twenty
twenty six and three and twenty twenty seven, which as
a whole is right now regarded as a better draft
specifically could be a much better quarterback draft. That's where
your hope lies. That's a couple of years out. You

(08:55):
had the Jets fans as losers in your trade deadline.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Call them at NFL dot com.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
How about some winners, Judy coming off of this trade
the headline?

Speaker 3 (09:05):
All right, there's some pretty obvious answers here. The Seattle Seahawks,
who got Rashii Chiheid the wide receiver, a perfect fit
for what that team needs now. First of all, they
already look like they might be the best team, maybe
the most complete team in the NFC. And now they
have got a wide receiver who can go deep, who
can take the top off the defense. That is a

(09:28):
definite win. Jacoby Myers, who had wanted to be traded
by the Raiders for a while, now he finally got traded.
He got traded to the Jaguars. That's a team that
doesn't just need him, they need him to contribute immediately
because of the injury injuries in the wide receiver room.
So good day for Jacoby Myers. I also have Joe
Flacco as a winner. He wasn't traded at the deadline.

(09:49):
He was treated a few weeks to go to the
Cincinnati Bengals. But the Bengals have given him enough of
a stage, and he has performed well enough that Joe
Flacco will almost certainly have a job opportunity for himself
next year. If he wants to work next year, he'll
be in his forties. And of course, the big winners
this is a no brainer, the Indianapolis Colts and Sauce Gardener.

(10:11):
The Indianapolis Colts are all in on a Super Bowl
push this year. This trade also means they believe they've
got their quarterback and Daniel Jones. They have a lot
of confidence in him. That offense has been red hot
at the pass defense was a weakness of this team,
and now Sauce Gardeners should certainly help that. Don't forget,
if you think you're going to make a run through

(10:32):
the AFC, you're probably going to have to face the Bills,
the Chiefs, now the Patriots, maybe the Chargers, the Broncos.
You're going to have to face some very good passing teams. Certainly,
Sauce Gardner will help the Colts compete against them in
the AFC.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Sauce also wins another European trip because he gets to
go back just a few weeks after being there with
the Jets, the NFL and Sauce take the field in
Berlin for the first time as the Falcons square off
against the Colts in a historic early morning showdown. So
get ready to wake up and watch, because here our
stars come out in the morning. It's Sunday Morning Football

(11:10):
Sunday nine to thirty am Eastern only on NFL Network
and streaming with NFL Plus. Subscription required for NFL Plus
visit Plus dot NFL dot com for terms time Now
for good coverage presented by Progressive Insurance Saucegardner, You guys
did pretty good coverage forty seven passes defense since entering

(11:31):
the NFL in twenty twenty two. That ranks third in
the league in that span, joins the Colts defense, currently,
as Judy mentioned, ranked twenty six in the league, allowing
two hundred and forty four zero point eight passyards per game.
For more on the Colts plan two pair Sauce Gardener
with their defensive coordinator lou Anrumo, who might be the
biggest winner out of this at all. Let's bring in

(11:51):
our guy, Brian Baldinger. Baldi, this was a huge need
the Colts over and over. They were calling everybody figured out,
where do we get a quarter who's not just an
upgrade but a difference maker.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
They got one with Sauce.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
What is the plan in your mind for him moving
forward starting Sunday for the Colts.

Speaker 11 (12:08):
Well, I think he's going to get plugged and played
right away. I mean, think about it. They started the season,
they got Xavian Howard, you know, out of retirement to
come and play, and then he he you know, after
a game against the Rams, he just back and retired
like I'm done.

Speaker 7 (12:21):
Like you know.

Speaker 11 (12:21):
The plan is to line up Travarius Ward, Kenny Moore,
you know, and Sauce Gardner and let Louenarumo get after
these quarterbacks down the stretch and in the playoffs and
affect these quarterbacks the.

Speaker 7 (12:32):
Way he once did.

Speaker 11 (12:33):
You know, Patrick Mahomes in an AFC Championship game where
he's got a lot of flexibility to play man coverage
behind it, to be able to blitch like he would
like to, to be able to force takeaways like they
have done this year. It's a huge piece to what
they have. They have experienced safeties in Nick Cross and
Cam buying them right now. They've got excellent play at

(12:54):
linebacker led by that man's air Franklin. They picked up
Tremaine Pratt a couple of weeks ago, you know, from
the Cincinnati Bengals who had coached him. But this is
a deep team. It's a talented front. You watch Eliot
to lot to really come on with DeForest, Buckner and
Quitty Pay. That feel that if you add Sauce Gardner
to this and you actually put Sauce out there defensively

(13:17):
with a team that can score a lot of points
where they got to throw to catch up, the opposition
has to do that, I feel like Sauce can be
the position of success right here. I think it's going
to be a new beginning and I expect really good
play from him in a defense that is fun to
play in because lou Anarumo is going to game plan
every week trying to affect the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Second and eight, Tess Johnson, He's got plenty of speed,
gets the block, hops.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Toward the end zone, spinning touchdown.

Speaker 12 (13:59):
Just a fantastick run after the catch by the rookie.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Tess Johnson, a seventh round pick, back to back games
with a touchdown. I don't know if that's Madden or
the Matrix, but that is Tess Johnson making place in
the NFL, and he is with us right now on
the Insiders with me, Tom Pelisero as well as Judy Batista.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
Ted.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
It's been great, Chenie out there doing your thing. You
never know when your opportunity is going to come in
the NFL. What has this rookie year been like for
you so far?

Speaker 13 (14:28):
I always say I'm still learning. Those rookie years have
been crazy to me. I definitely can say it's the
hardest season I've ever been a part of, the longest
by far.

Speaker 7 (14:39):
But it's a learning process.

Speaker 13 (14:41):
Every time I have a game or we have a
game here in Tampa on the road, like, it's a
learning process. You're going to make mistakes. You got to
learn from those mistakes. In this league, is you make
one mistake, you can't make it twice. So you got
to try your best every single time. And the team.
The team been really good with that and just keeping
me positive and uplifting me the most even though if

(15:02):
I mess up or anything like that.

Speaker 7 (15:03):
So grateful for that.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
You've obviously had a lot of responsibility given to you.
There's been a lot of injuries in the wide receiver room.
So you've taken on a very big role very quickly
in your career.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
How have you adjusted? How have you prepared for that?

Speaker 7 (15:20):
I was just always in my playbook.

Speaker 13 (15:22):
I have my special meetings with coach b Mac and
we meet every morning like seven twenty go over the script,
just make sure I'm just mentally prepare for everything, making
sure that.

Speaker 7 (15:35):
Like whenever that time comes, we never know when it's
going to come, I'm ready.

Speaker 13 (15:40):
So I was always I want to say ready in
my head, but mentally how I study and how I
prepare myself with the coach and watching Mecca on ball
out on a Sunday and just trying to learn from him.
It's been pretty awesome.

Speaker 14 (15:56):
You know.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
You talk about the mental side of the game, and
obviously that's been a strength earn those different spots and
understand the NFL game. But there's also like just some
freaky athletic ability to you.

Speaker 7 (16:06):
Here.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
We keep showing you doing that backhandspring or whatever you
want to call it in the end zone as a celebration.
My main question for you is this, You run all right?
You're running a post fifty yards downfield to make it
unbelievable play you tumble into the end zone. Is any
part of you like I might be too tired. I
don't know that I'm going to land this because it
seems like there's a moment there where you're thinking about

(16:26):
exactly what you want to celebrate.

Speaker 13 (16:29):
I don't think I'm really tired. When I'm ready to celebrate,
I'm I'm going to celebrate no matter what. And I
remember that touchdown you're talking about forty nine ers. I
was asking the crowd, do you want me to flip?
And a guy in the front rows that yeah. So
I went ahead, and and then I had like I
did something with the cheerleaders and it was like you
got to flip again, and you got to do the

(16:52):
Tasmanian flipp.

Speaker 7 (16:53):
Probably be the one I do this oup coming Sunday.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
You've had reasons to do a lot of flips again.
There's been a lot of changes going on in your
offense because of the injuries. How has Baker Mayfield handled
that and how has he worked with you and the
other receivers to sort of get everybody on the same
page with so many moving parts.

Speaker 13 (17:17):
I like that, like Baker is so detailed up, Like
if you watch him take notes in the TV rooms,
like he has his highlighters, he has his his.

Speaker 7 (17:29):
His iPad, things like that. Like he he's so detailed
and everything in the way.

Speaker 13 (17:34):
He makes sure me and make understand exactly what he's
thinking on his play. You don't ask for any better
quarterback than I'm very grateful for that. And him and
mech together. They very smart. Meg is very like he
like Chris gowin Like if you know Chris, like everything

(17:54):
he does is to a t, like you got to
know exactly what he's doing. He got everything he planned out.
Baker is the same way. Now me, on the other hand,
I'm gonna have to learn from a different I'm from
a difference. That way, You're gonna have to meet with
meably three times and then I get it. But uh them,
I'm always by my side every time I'm on the field,

(18:15):
whether that's Mex saying like hey tes B plus two
or plus three, it's something that.

Speaker 7 (18:22):
You you always hoping which way you're going going into
an organization.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Baker said today, you know, the real football starts now,
in his words, in other words, this is the second
half of the season. Doesn't matter where you are in
the standings. You're going and facing a really physical Patriots
team that's clearly brimming with confidence. They got everything going
from what do you see from them on tape? And
how do you get after him this week?

Speaker 7 (18:46):
You go out there and play a game.

Speaker 13 (18:48):
Baker was right like, this is where the real football starts,
and I'm looking forward to it as a rookie.

Speaker 7 (18:54):
Never been a part of something like this.

Speaker 13 (18:56):
I'm that team that you see the pages that we
plan on this Sunday. They physical, they pride themselves on that.
They have a lot of fight, and I see a
few teammates over there that I want to go again.
So it's going to be pretty fun for me on
Sunday for sure.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Tis always a pleasure man talking to you. Best to
lock the rest of the season. Stay healthy.

Speaker 7 (19:17):
We'll cut you down the line. Thank you so much,
Thank you for having me.

Speaker 1 (19:21):
Baker Mayfield and MVP candidate. So right now is Drake May.
Look at this chart here most consecutive games with at
least two hundred passing yards and a one hundred passer rating.
The only guy with more Drake may was Aaron Rodgers
back in twenty eleven when the Packers. I believe when
fifteen to one and Rogers was the MVP. Ken Drake

(19:42):
May keep it up, and what is Josh McDaniels doing
to put this offense around his young quarterback? Nobody better
to break that down than our guy, Brian Baldinger. Baldi
breaking down for me here, what exactly is it about
Drake May and this Patriots offense that at times watched
them they seem almost on stuf.

Speaker 11 (20:01):
They're very young, but they're very game plan centric Tom,
So every week it's a different plan, different formations.

Speaker 7 (20:08):
That you see.

Speaker 11 (20:09):
That's what Josh McDaniel's David Tom Brady. I'm not comparing
Drake to Tom, but you know he's the highest rated
quarterback in the league. And it starts with just the basics.
I mean, can you get a little excited about some
high formation? Jack West over right here, little toss crack.
There's Will Campbell, Jared Wilson out there, and here's the
rookie Trevion Henderson. That's three rookies out there making things happen.

(20:29):
They're very smart, that's the basics. They run it more
than they throw it. Now, in every game so far,
you've seen a deep shot at least one It starts
for protection right here. All right, they're gonna get Pop
Douglas right here free on this deep over route, and
Drake May, who's the highest rated quarterback in the league
with the best completion percentage, put it right.

Speaker 7 (20:50):
On Pop Douglas right there.

Speaker 11 (20:51):
I mean, that was a huge play that led to
a touchdown in this game a week ago. Now, if
you look at the protection, there's Hunter Henry over there.
Before he gets out of his route, he's gonna give
will little help, little chip right there. Make sure that
there's a nice clear vision for Drake to be able
to make that throw a stick throw where Pop can
really kind of continue yards after the catch right there.

Speaker 7 (21:12):
So important to any offense.

Speaker 11 (21:14):
Now, they also game plan specific like I said, So
one thing you have to consider is Drake May the runner.
He's excellent, tom He makes people miss like, he knows
where the openings are, he knows the coverage. He's the
three to the third leading Russia right now, averaging four
point six yards of carry. So you have to account
for him as a runner, whether it's designed or whether

(21:35):
it's just you know, just supplemental. And now you get matchups,
you get you know, Tamario Douglas right here on Jayla
Walker the rookie on a wheel route that was put
in specifically against that look, and Drake May hit it.
And then I put this in against the Browns because
I know Todd Bowles in the Tampa are gonna blitz
him this week, So so did Jim Schwartz and Cleveland.

(21:56):
They came after him with six man pressure. I feel
like he's excellent against the blitz Tom. I feel like
there's an answer for him to go to to get
the ball out of his hands quickly. And I'm sum
I'm sure that you know Todd Bowles two weeks to
prepare for this is going to have some pressures that
Drake May has not seen yet, and so they're gonna
come after him in a variety of ways. Let's see

(22:16):
how he handles the pressure on the road against a
very solid and complete team in Tampa.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Todd Bowles never needs any extra incentive to heat up
any quarterback, much less a young one played like Drake May.

Speaker 7 (22:29):
Baldy.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Fantastic stuff. As always, we'll talk to you again soon.
Still a lot more to come on this show, including
looks at the trade deadline.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
And some of the moves they were not made.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Why exactly is Jalen Waddle still a Miami Dolphin For
answers on that and much more. Cameron Wolf on the
scene in South Beach. He's with us next. So the
Insider is presented by Progressive Insurance. Jerry Jones stole the

(23:02):
show again on trade deadline day, getting one of those
big guys who you guessed it can help the cowboys
stop the run. Quinn Williams reporting for duty at the
Star and talking about what it's like to suddenly be
a cowboy.

Speaker 9 (23:19):
Cooper grateful for the opportunity that the New York jetson
gave me, and this opportunity for the fan base that
gave me. And it was a little heartfelt when they
had to miss the players and the coaches that was
there and the things that AG was setting out to
do there, and it is unbelievable. But I'm super excited
about the new journey that I have on being a

(23:39):
Dallas cowboy man, the history behind it, like I said,
and the opportunity I got a chance to play with
great players, a great organization and a great great ownership.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
The Bills were active on the phones as well as
they try to make another run in the AFC ultimately
did not complete a big deal for their team, But,
as Brandon Bean said today, for a lack of trying.

Speaker 15 (24:00):
Ninety nine percent of the players are available for a price.
You saw that yesterday with some talented players you know
in our division getting moved. But you also have to
understand we have a salary cap and we have to
hit on these picks. So yeah, I mean, my job
is to not be reckless with with this role, and

(24:26):
you'd it's easy to say it's not fantasy football.

Speaker 1 (24:30):
The Bills in the unusual position of looking up at
someone in the standings at this time, it is the Patriots,
who also, after a couple of deals last week, largely
stood pat at the deadline. Mike Frabel was anything ever close.

Speaker 14 (24:44):
Bills are like being pregnant. You either are or you aren't.
There's no like. It's either a deal or it's not.
So I don't know how close you can be. I
know that everyone worked hard, that we investigated and looked
in and made phone calls, and they what personnel departments do,

(25:05):
and in the end, you know, we decided that this
was what we were going to do.

Speaker 1 (25:11):
The Dolphins did make one big trade over the weekend,
sending pass rusher Jalen Phillips to the Eagles in exchange
for a twenty twenty six third round draft pick. But
despite a lot of calls and a lot of speculation,
they otherwise largely decided to push forward in the second
half of the season with the group they've got.

Speaker 16 (25:30):
Our relationships are are are strong. We had very, very
healthy conversations, and we were all in agreement for the
moves and or moves we didn't make. There wasn't anything
that moved the needle for us to change our roster

(25:51):
beyond what we've done, and so we were I was
excited for four o'clock because I got to get back
to where my mind has been at and where I'm
making sure everyone's mind's at, and that is the Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Let's bring in our camera and Wolf to the conversation.
Spends a lot of time where he lives down there
in Miami cam. There was certainly plenty of speculations around in.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
Miami, and a lot of it was founded.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
They were from everything I was told, willing to listen
on anybody on the roster. Ultimately, they make the Jalen
Phillips trade they decide not to move forward with some
of the other offers. How exactly did that all play
out at Dolphins headquarters.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
Yeah, there was a.

Speaker 17 (26:35):
Lot of calls, but there was no fire sell and
that's really the big thing. I think there was a
belief in the league of maybe, because everything went bad,
they'd sell everybody for twenty five cents on the dollar,
and that's why we did not see the volume of moves.
And I'll start with Jaylen Waddle here because that's the
big one. People thought that maybe there was a chance
this get get done. I was told the Denver Broncos

(26:55):
had some conversations with them, but from one source perspective,
they wanted a Quinn William or Sauce Gardner type return
for Jalen Wattle, and that just wasn't the market out
there for him.

Speaker 7 (27:04):
They view him as a part of.

Speaker 17 (27:06):
Their new future, whether that's with Tua McDaniel or some
combination of other people. They think Jalen Wattle, who's on
pace for his fourth one thousand yard season in the
last five years, would be a big part of it.
And so that was always considered unlikely from people I
talked to. But the other pieces were a little bit
more of a surprise. There was some thought that Bradley
Chubb might be sent out on a deal. This could

(27:28):
be his last year here their thought process there, we're
not going to trade guys for late round pick swaps,
which was a lot of the offers they received for
guys like Chubb and Minka when they feel like they
can still have a chance to fight through the year.
This is going to be an important end of the
year for Mike McDaniel, for Tua Tungua Bai Looa, and
they want to give these guys a shot. So although

(27:49):
they have a bad record, they are not in the
less pack up and paint for twenty twenty six yet.
So that's why you saw just Jalen Phillips to Philly.
But maybe some of these conversations resume in the off
seat and when they make more changes.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
Dam do not move.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
He got more juice from the trade of the headline
for us in just a little bit.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
But first, Judy, we.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
Are halfway through with the season, and that's why it's
time to look at.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
The playoff picture.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
If the playoffs started today, we know they don't and
they won't for another two months or so. But just
hear us out here. These are the standings, Holds and
Patriots one and two in the AFC.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
I don't think anybody had that happening right now.

Speaker 3 (28:31):
The Jaguars would be in in the AFC and the
Chiefs would be out. Jaguars at two five and three
would be the third wild card. Maybe that's why they
made a deal yesterday. Let's bring in our Bucky Brooks,
who works for the Jaguars and so knows that team
better than anybody. Jacoby Myers on his way to Jacksonville.
I read something that Mac Jones also texted Trevor Lawrence

(28:54):
today and said, he's one of my favorite guys that
I've ever played with. What Bucky are they hoping that
Jacoby Myers can do?

Speaker 12 (29:01):
But look, they wanted the veteran presidents to bring consistency, reliability,
and dependability to the wide receiver position. When you think
about the Jaguars, they lead the National Football League and drops.
When you look at Jacoby Myers throughout his career, Look,
he has a one point eight percent drop rate, meaning
he catches everything that's thrown in his area. And what
that does is that gives Trevor Lawrence a trusted wide

(29:23):
out that he can target. When you think about the
injuries that have taken place Travis Hunter. Now there Brian
Thomas Junior dealing with an ankle injury. Now Parker Washington
is having to assume the role as the number one receiver.
But Jacoby Mariers gives him a nice chain mover to
target on the outside. It reminds me of twenty twenty two,
where Trevor played his best. He had Marvin Jones Christian

(29:43):
kirk Zay Jones, high IQ route runners with.

Speaker 7 (29:46):
Dependable hands that allowed him to play at his best.

Speaker 12 (29:49):
The Jaguars are trying to recreate some of that comfort
by giving him a veteran and Jacoby Myris Bucky.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
You wrote recently about the Denver Broncos. They were quiet
at the deadl line, didn't make any moves, But maybe
you can do that when your defense is in the
top five. Anyway, tell me how they did it.

Speaker 12 (30:07):
This is a great defense and one that vance Joseph
deserves a lot of credit for really taking a bunch
of guys that aren't necessarily heralded, but putting together and
getting it done. And it starts up front. Last year,
we know Nick Benito Jonathan Cooper, Zach Allen. They helped
this team lead the league in sacks, and they did
it with a lot of pressure, a lot of blissing

(30:27):
man to man coverage. This year, same trio is really
getting it done, but they're doing it with man to man,
with a lot of simulated pressure meeting they're only bringing
for They're relying on their guys in the back end
to play coverage and they're getting home because the coverage
is so sticky. It's allowing the pass rushes done eat
And when you think about it, this is a team
that can get it done with or without a defensive

(30:49):
Player of the Year and patrick'stan, So it speaks volumes
not only about the pass rush, but about the guys
they have in the back end, Riley Moss, j Day Barron,
some of the other guys that are playing in place
Patrick stan Vans. Joseph has done a really good job
of using the bliff and bluttz the bliff the bluff
and blitz technique to try and keep these guys out
of source and is doing a really good job of

(31:11):
throwing off quarterbacks and play callers basing this defense.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
If you've ever dreamed of having the perfect fantasy lineup. Well,
this is what it would have looked like last week
if you had the foresight to stark Caleb Williams brought
Bowers in his.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Return Colston Lovelan. That would have been quite the call.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
If you've ever had a nightmare about the imperfect lineup
and want to look something like this Commanders defense posting
the old negative two Evan Ingram.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Getting shut out. If you just want to go to sleep,
here's Marcus Grant. Don't excuse me.

Speaker 1 (31:43):
If you want fantasy sleepers, here's our guy, Marcus Grant,
time too, Marcus my words. Let's start out with a
sleeper quarterback heading into week ten year Marcus.

Speaker 18 (31:53):
Let's go with Jared goff Tom because look after week
two he had five touchdown passes against the Bears the Lions,
one in a route. We thought, okay, well maybe they're
not missing Ben Johnson. Last few weeks haven't been so
great right now, Golf of the Quarterback fourteen, averaging just
kind of a mediocre seventeen points per game. Most of
his big performances have come against bad defenses. Good news

(32:14):
he gets to face the Commanders this week. They've been
tortured by quarterbacks in three straight weeks, giving up almost
nine hundred passing yards over their last three games with
ten touchdowns. We've seen Dak Prescott, Patrick Mahomes, and Sam
Donold I'll get twenty two or more fantasy points against
the Commanders in recent weeks. So, you know, golf has
been sort of up and down. This feels like a
week for him to get right and get back on

(32:34):
that fantasy horse again.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
The Viking said, so much pressure, interior pressure at him,
a variety of different blitzes. It really threw him off
in that game last week. Interested to see what he
might potentially face this coming week.

Speaker 2 (32:48):
Running back sleeper, What do you got, Marcus. We're gonna
go with.

Speaker 18 (32:50):
Aaron Jones here, and I know he left last week
had a bit of a shoulder injury. The team is
optimistic that he's going to be able to play this week.
But since he's come back, he immediately stepped into that
RB one role ahead of Jordan Mason. Now, look, the
Ravens have improved defensively. A lot of it's because they've
been able to sort of dictate game script. They've been
going against some bad defenses. Getting Lamar Jackson back is

(33:11):
always going to help. But I think in this one
we'll see the Vikings keep it close. I think they're
going to be more of a balanced attack. Right now,
JJ McCarthy only throwing the ball about twenty two times
per game. I think that means Aaron Jones gets a
lot of touches. And look, if you want to go
really deep on this, I do think Jordan Mason gets
some touches as well. This is pretty much gonna be
an Aaron Jones game.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
I was at that game on Sunday. Aaron Jones. I
bumped into him as he came out of the X
ray room. Told me minor racy joints brains that I've
had it on the other side before, not going to
be an issue. He expects to play wide receivers, sleeper.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
What have we got in markets?

Speaker 18 (33:42):
Looking at Troy Franklin for the Denver Broncos, and it's
been nice to see him finally emerge in this offense,
especially over the last few weeks. Now he's got an
eighteen point two average depth of target. What that means
is it's going to be lower percentage throws. You're trying
to get him deeper down the field. The good news
is you don't have to catch a whole lot of
those targets in order to put up a nice yardage total.
The even better news is the Raiders have given up

(34:03):
the fifth most catches to wide receivers. They also have
the third lowest pressure rate in the NFL. So I
think we're gonna see bo Nix have plenty of time
to stand back in the pocket and pick out some
targets down the field. Troy Franklin really starting to become
a nice option as a third wide receiver for a
lot of fantasy teams.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Marvin Mims officially ruled out for tomorrow night's game again
because they can cussion so more.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Balls to spread around. How about tight end sleeper actually
could use one of those, Marcus.

Speaker 18 (34:28):
Dalton kin k It is a nice one. This is
such a pretty good week for tight end sleepers overall.
But Dalton K and KD in a really good spot
coming off a big game that he had last week,
leads the Bills in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. It's
weird because as much as we like to Josh Allen,
there aren't a whole lot of pass catchers there that
you look at and you're automatically set it and forget it.
But as the Dolphins have been good against wide receivers,

(34:49):
not so much against tight ends. Most favorable matchup for
the tight end position third, most receptions allowed to tight ends.
So this is a passing game, Tom that kind of
runs through Khalil Shakir and Dalton Can. I think we're
gonna see a lot of Kinka this week.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
Fritz, it's Wednesday, so it must be time for the
Wolf of Ball Street, and that means it's time for
Urcam Wolf to open his notebook and fill us with knowledge. Rcam,
it's week ten, tell us what you know. Let's start
with Sauce Gardner.

Speaker 17 (35:28):
Yeah, we're gon do all AFC South trade deadline centric
Wolf of Ball Street, and let's start in Indianapolis where
I talk with their defensive coordinator lou Anarrumo last night.

Speaker 7 (35:36):
It was the happiest he's been all season.

Speaker 17 (35:38):
When I talked to him, he said, I can't wait
to get to Sauce Gardner and get my hands on
him because he's a guy, along with Mooney Ward, who
will get back from ir here in a week or two,
who can cover anybody on the outside. He said, it's
going to make me allow me to be more aggressive
on defense. They're middle of the pack right now in blitzes.
Don't be surprised if they end up being a top five,

(35:59):
top ten team in blitzes. They believe they have the
formula now with those press man corners to play more
man coverage.

Speaker 7 (36:06):
Lou has a.

Speaker 17 (36:07):
Lot of experience playing some of these top teams in
the AFC and having success like the Bills, like the Bengals,
they finally feel like they have the formula to be
more aggressive and more than anything, this is a bet
on this Colts team with Daniel Jones being able to
be a true contender. Now let's go to Jacksonville. Another
team that was bold at the deadline trading for Jacoby Myers.

(36:28):
This one was based on the availability of Travis Hunter
and Brian Thomas Junior. They needed another reliable threat inside
GM James Glastone made a lot of calls throughout the deadline.
At one point they were in the mix for Quinn
Williams as well. Ultimately, they decided to upgrade that offensive
side of the ball. Jacoby Myers a sure handed guy,
which is a big deal. Glasstone called that a superpower,

(36:50):
and he noted that we have struggled catching the ball.
They lead the NFL and drops this is something that's
going to get a tough, physical guy in the middle.
Brian Thomas Junior up in the air of this week
with an ankle spring. Travis Hunter obviously on ir They
hope to get him back sometime in December and have
him still play an offensive role.

Speaker 2 (37:08):
But Jacoby Myers is.

Speaker 17 (37:09):
A reliable threat for them for now and hopefully they
extend him for the future. And let's go to Tennessee,
a team that made a few smaller moves, but their
eyes are on twenty twenty six. Their GM Mike Borganzi,
talked about Jeffrey Simmons, who was a huge piece of
calls throughout this trade deadline. They decided not to trade
him despite significant interests. They view him as a cornerstone

(37:30):
piece along with Cam Moore, to.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Give to the next head coach.

Speaker 17 (37:33):
That head coach, along with Borganzi, will make a decision
on who goes. Maybe that's an off season conversation that
comes up, but for now they view those two as
the cornerstone pieces.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
A few of the guys they did.

Speaker 17 (37:45):
Trade were guys they were not playing in the resign
or did not feel where culture fits there.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
So this Titans team is a multi year rebuild.

Speaker 17 (37:52):
One source told me a big key here will be
does the owner have the patience to withstand another year
or two of losing because they have the right guys
in the right path.

Speaker 7 (38:01):
Is going to take some time in Tennessee.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
Very good question at cam Wolf about the future in Tennessee.

Speaker 2 (38:07):
Thanks very much.

Speaker 3 (38:08):

Sauce Gardner is going to be there in a Colts uniform, which, well,
it was an ideally welcome news for a couple of
young Jets fans.

Speaker 7 (39:21):
Sausman to the Colts. It's okay, guess going on right, Trey.
I just want to say I appreciate you all for support.

Speaker 17 (39:28):
That being said, I'm gonna give you a two of
my first Coast jerseys.

Speaker 2 (39:33):
Good on you, Sauce for getting that done. For the kids.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
Judy, what's the most creative way that you've tried to
scar a child for life?

Speaker 3 (39:43):
I do question the wisdom of videoing when you're telling
your kids bad news that's going to get them upset.
I'm not sure about that. But they did get the jerseys,
so it all worked out in the end.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
Yeah, I don't know how I feel about it.

Speaker 1 (39:56):
You can buy the jersey, you can make them feel okay.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
It's it's a lot. Look at these poor kids.

Speaker 1 (40:03):
Not only are they growing up as Jets fans, which
has been hard enough i'm sure, through their current existence here.
But then the best player traded away. He's a guy
named Sauce. That's why my kids were like, I said
that to my kids in the car and goes, what
because she knows the guy named Sauce. He's got his
own sauce that you can buy on wings. There's no

(40:23):
one else named Sauce. The Jets can't find another guy
named Sauce.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
It just all seems unfair. Thanks for watching them

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
