Speaker 1 (00:09):
After a week of change, the Giants are focused on
getting a W on Sunday, so they are turning to
the guy who eats them, you know, eats the w's.
That's right, The Jamis Winston Show is back here. What
Mike kafkis said today about the plan from here for
Big Blue. The Ravens are suddenly racking up wins and
their defense is leading the way. Rookie standout Malki Starks
(00:32):
joins the show tonight to discuss his wild draft experience
and why he's even happier now that he landed in Baltimore.
Get out bit on your preferred fantasy waiver target. Did
somebody else blow their entire free agent budget on Kareem Hunt?
Speaker 2 (00:45):
That's what happened to me.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
So I'm gonna be listening closely to Marcus Grant Sleepers
and you should too. Welcome inside with the Insiders presented
by Progressive Insurance alongside Ian rappaport I am Tom Pelicero.
Week eleven kicks off tomorrow night, but some people are
still talking about Week ten. A. J. Brown is still
talking about Week ten and everything else that's happened to
(01:08):
this point in the Eagles season. Last night, Brown sounding
off about the eagles struggling offense during a stream of
a Madden game a short time ago.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
A J.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Brown then spoke with reporters and safe to say he
is not backing down.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
It's not just solely about my situation.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
I mean, guys like obvious, I don't want to win too,
you know.
Speaker 6 (01:28):
And I think if we're we're really focusing on winning
and doing our job like that, we can't just keep
slapping the band aid over the defense doing their job
and getting us out of trouble. At what point we're
gonna pick up box slack as an offense that we're
saying we're so great, you know? And that's what I'm
getting there. It's not about we're not winning or I
(01:49):
don't care about winning all I care about his netting step. No,
it's been a week at the week sometimes we're not contributing,
we're not doing our job on offense. So you can't
keep slapping a band aid over there. You expect to
win later later in the year, and you think you're
gonna go to it in the year, it's not. It's
not gonna happen. It's not gonna have you know, last year,
what it was thank you for the ring. But it's
(02:10):
a new season. They adapted. We have to adapt and
we have to continue to like get better and try
to find new way. So that's that's where a frustration
comes in because it's not about winning. You guys like
I don't want to win. Yes, he'll contribute as well,
do our thing on offense as well.
Speaker 4 (02:24):
That's I think that's fair.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
You know who does care about stats, Fantasy players, for
whom aj had a message Tuesday night.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
If you got me on fantasy man, get rid of me.
Speaker 1 (02:34):
We'll get Marcus Grant's thoughts on that in just a
little bit, but first your thoughts, Nick Sirianni.
Speaker 7 (02:40):
You can't look at stats and just say this is
what's happen. You can't paint the picture that way. I
know that's sometimes is all the information that you guys
may have, but you can't look at it that way
and just say, here's how the game is playing out.
Like there are reasons and different things. AJ Brown is
one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, so
of course we're trying to get him involved in the
game every single time time. You know, sometimes it goes
(03:03):
like it did in the Rams game or the Vikings game,
and sometimes it goes like it did in this last game.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
So let's level set here. The Eagles of the Ragning
Super Bowl champions. They are seven and two, they're up
three and a half games in the NFC East. But
there has been this undercurrent brewing for really a couple
of years now, Ian about exactly what AJ Brown's place
in the offense is. As much as you can say, yes,
they are winning games, they're getting there. If you watch
(03:29):
them on Monday night, you do kind.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Of get it.
Speaker 8 (03:32):
Yeah, you're really doing you know.
Speaker 9 (03:33):
Aj Brown made the comments on a Madden stream, which
you know, who knows if he thought the comments would
be public. Who knows if he realized that when he
speaks everyone is listening. But to his credit, didn't really
back down today, really said essentially he does want to
get involved. He's one of the best receivers in the NFL.
Something Nick Sirianni said when he talked to reporters today
(03:56):
as well. The Eagles offense is better when AJ Brown
is involved. So really there's no reason for him to
apologize it. Just what this does, Tom is this creates
something for all of us and all those in Philly
to talk about it creates every time a reporter goes
in the locker room, he now has something else to
ask Aj Brown. He now has seven or eight questions
(04:17):
in a row to ask Nick Sirianni. If you want
to call it a distraction, it's at least a distraction
media wise, because this keeps coming up. The real issue
here in Philly is why is this still a topic?
In other words, why is he still not involved? And
Nick Sirianni said it, they are trying to get him involved.
Speaker 8 (04:35):
They did that.
Speaker 9 (04:37):
Much disputed fourth and sixth pass that was to Aj
Brown to try to get him involved.
Speaker 8 (04:41):
It hasn't happened.
Speaker 9 (04:42):
If this Eagles team is going to get to where
they were last year, if they are going to repeat,
I think it's pretty fair to say that Aj Brown
has to be more of a part of the offense
than he previously is, and until and unless he is,
we're going to have to follow his twitch streams or
whatever just to see what he thinks about all of it.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
And then an odd twist, the first like five questions
of Jalen Hurts in his press conference and in a
short time ago all revolved around, hey, why do you
decide to go for it on that fourth and sixth
and what do you think that was a throat a
j Brown that what's trying to get in the ball
in that situation that certainly there can be some second
guessing about exactly how wise it was to not, I
don't know, punt, do something different, Nick Sirianni standing by
(05:26):
that decision. Elsewhere in the NFC East, the Giants have
made multiple big decisions this week. You started with the
firing of Brian Dabele as their head coach on Monday,
Mike Kafka taking.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Over as the interim head coach.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Kafka announcing today Jamis Winston, not Russell Wilson, going to
start on Sunday against the Packers with Jackson Dart in
concussion protocol, and as you'd expect, Jamis is fired up Almo.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
Fans of no Data. I'm going to do my best.
Speaker 10 (05:52):
You know, obviously I'm going to have fun, but I'm
going to execute, have a surgical execution, and just play ball,
man like this is something I've been doing since I've
been four years old, and I just get to do
it in.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
The greatest city in the world.
Speaker 10 (06:05):
I'm gonna be saying to what my son, Who's the
greatest city in the world.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
Yeah, that's a Hamilton reference. If y'all don't know it,
t reunion.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Damis is gonna have to others. There's apparently that was
Ian Att had Hamilton last night, So good time?
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Do you wanna do you wanna grace us with a
few bars too?
Speaker 8 (06:24):
I want to be singing.
Speaker 9 (06:25):
But the reason why I was there Leslie Odom Junior
is back playing Burr.
Speaker 8 (06:30):
He originated the role.
Speaker 9 (06:31):
I saw him last night. It was the audience was great,
singing was unbelievable. Now I didn't hear Jamis singing last
night in Hamilton, so I don't believe he was in it.
But maybe they watched his interview and they were like, man,
we need to add this guy to the cast. I
think that is something that probably didn't happen, all.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Right, so going to Jamis here not Russell Wilson again.
This is one of those things where if you just
watch the games, you look at how Russ has looked. Really,
he had the one game Week two against the Cowboys
where he lit it up. Everything after that, and of
course when Jackson Dart then eventually took over to what
you saw when he replaced Start last week, you just
got that sense. If you're looking for a spark, if
you're looking for just even that one week bounce like
(07:14):
you sometimes see with interim head coaches, you probably need
a guy who is a human bounce like Jameis Winston
to step in.
Speaker 8 (07:21):
I mean, he's gonna let it fly now.
Speaker 9 (07:23):
He let it fly last year for the Browns and
it was thirteen touchdowns twelve interceptions.
Speaker 8 (07:28):
Like, if I had to guess, that's probably.
Speaker 9 (07:31):
What it's gonna be. But this really didn't seem like
a tough decision at all. We've seen Russell Wilson a
couple times ever since Jackson Dart replaced him, and it's
been just, to be totally honest, just kind of a.
Speaker 8 (07:41):
Dud when he's been in there.
Speaker 9 (07:42):
Last week, he had the opportunity a couple times to
go in lead his team on a drive win the game,
probably saved Brian Davos's job, and instead, the last pass,
maybe the last pass will ever see Russell Wilson throw
in the NFL, was unable to be thrown essentially, And
I mean, look, this was a no brainer.
Speaker 8 (08:01):
This had to happen. And you know, for Mike.
Speaker 9 (08:04):
Kafka, the offensive coordinator turned interim head coach. He doesn't
have very many shots at this right like to win
the job, and obviously he wants to win games, but
to win the job, which is what he's really looking for,
you gotta have an improved offensive performance, got to be
better than when Russ's out there. Jamis does give that
jolt of energy. We will see just in a short
(08:26):
quick week what Kafka is able to do to kind
of get this offense going where it should be even
without Jackson Dark.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
And it was one of the first things I was
told to Mike Kafka thought about after being informed on Monday,
and move that he said surprised him was we need
to go to Jameis Winston as the quarterback here. We'll
see what impact that has on a guy in Kafka
who has been a finalist. He's had multiple interviews for
multiple jobs in recent years. Now he's getting an opportunity
for the first time to be an interim head coach.
Speaker 11 (08:59):
I think I think the best head coaches I've been
around are guys that are are confident, poised, have a direction,
have a plan, and then go execute the plan. And
if something goes it's a little bit different. Then you
go back and you adjust. You have flexibility to adjust accountability,
holding guys accountable to the highest standard. If it's not right,
fix it, don't wait and let things just kind of
(09:21):
trickle and snowball, right, So you want to be able
to to be able to do that guys that empower
players to.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
Be their best.
Speaker 11 (09:30):
And so those are things that I've learned over my
past that I think are great, great qualities and head
coach and things that I try to bear.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
There have been a whole lot of changes for the
Giants over the past decade, going back to when Tom
kaughlin was replaced by Ben mcadu, who had the best
record of all the head coaches who have come since,
still was run out midway through his second season. Let's
bring in Mark Ross and Bucky Brooks to the conversation. Mark,
you know that organization, Well, you have observed all these
(10:00):
changes over ten years, but specifically the ones that have
taken place over the past seventy two hours. Give me
an idea in your mind of short term, the bigger picture,
more importantly, what this means for the Giants moving forward.
Speaker 12 (10:12):
Yeah, sure, Ben mcadhoe made the playoffs one year two
with Ben but that's a whole nother story there. But
just moving forward, it was definitely interesting that they got
rid of Day Bowl but kept Joe Shane and because
the Giants have done this the third time already of
keeping a GM and firing a head coach, so I
know all Giants fans are kind of outraged, like why
(10:34):
didn't everybody go together, especially since Joe Shane hired Brian Dabole,
and then Brian Dabele essentially was kind of the one
that pushed for Jackson Dart, who is the future. So
you're keeping a guy that hired the head coach that
got fired. But this is the importance of relationships in
the building. Now I've been in that building. I think
Joe Shane is very much tied in with the ownership
and they like him and trust him because of personal relationships.
(10:58):
But moving forward, I mean, they're going have to really
get an established head coach in here. Not you show
three guys that had experience there not much experience as
a head coach at all, and then Pat Shermer, who
hadn't had winning experience. So Bucky moving forward with the Giants,
whether Joe Shane is the long term answer throughout the
year and next year making the decisions because ownership is
(11:18):
going to be heavily involved. It's got to be somebody
that has experienced with winning, not just experience or not
the hot coordinator.
Speaker 13 (11:28):
You know, it's funny, Mark because you talk about experience
and you notice that it's always been an offensive coach
that has been the guy that has kind of been
the apple of the Giants and continue to do that.
If you have a guy like a Mike McCarthy that
comes in experience, has won, has won in Green Bay,
won in Dallas, even though it wasn't to the liking
of Cowboys fans.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
But the one thing that you do.
Speaker 13 (11:50):
Know is he has a blueprint that has been successful.
International Football League. Other guys that could potentially be on
the radar. They'll talk about Steve Spagnola, They'll talk Abot
Anthonio appears because he knows the building.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
He's part of jians lore.
Speaker 13 (12:03):
He had one year really with the La Raiders, the
Las Vegas Raiders, and it didn't go great. But he's
been a head coach. But to me, it has to
be someone who has experienced. It has to be someone
who has run a program before, and it has to
be someone who has a personality that can get along
with the gentlemanager Joe Shane, because that partnership needs to
be in lockstep if the giantsy will get back on track.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Bucky Mark, thank you very much, do not move. We
got more from you in a bit, including on that
Seahawks rams showdown first, more news, including no, this is
not a rerun. Lamar Jackson did not practice today for
the Ravens. Now coach John Harbaugh said he's just dealing
with some knee soreness. Should be good to go on Sunday.
This is Lamar, though you're never entirely certain exactly what
(12:48):
direction things might head. Ravens are at Cleveland on Sunday.
Speaker 9 (12:51):
Ian Oh, you want to talk about a quarterback where
you're not entirely certain what you're going to get? Cool,
Let's talk about Brock party one once again was limited
at practice.
Speaker 8 (13:02):
By the way, so is Ricky Piersoll. We'll see if he.
Speaker 9 (13:05):
Ends up getting on the field Sunday, but let's talk
about Brock once again limited. Now, Kyle shan Shanahan had
said their hope, hope is that Perdy plays on Sunday.
You watch the practice film from local reporters. It looked
much more intense than it has been in the past.
So maybe you'll get to be a full participant tomorrow
or Friday, and then maybe start Sunday, but TBD. As
(13:26):
of now, for the Arizona Cardinals, they got some not
great news, I would say for one of their top receivers,
Marvin Harrison Junior, was ruled out for week eleven against
these San Francisco forty nine ers after undergoing it apidectomy.
Now there is a possibility that he missed his additional
weeks as well. Some people respond well to this and
they can go out in place.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Some do not.
Speaker 8 (13:47):
Up in the air as far as his availability.
Speaker 9 (13:49):
But for the Arizona Cardinals had a rough one this
past weekend. Need to get a win, not having their
top receiver Tom Stings.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Top receivers Garrett Wilson ruled out by the Jets for
tomorrow night's game against the Patriots, dealing with yet another
injury to his knee. Not a surprise, but certainly another
frustrating moment for Wilson, who has been dealing with that
knee for the past month. Aaron Glenn technically hasn't said
who's started a quarterback, but they're pretty good. He'll be
justin fields having to look for other wide receivers. Commanders
(14:22):
and Dolphins are over in Madrid. Of course, it is
Marcus Mariota starting in place of their starting quarterback Jayden
Daniels on Sunday, which means, and you got a match
up of a couple of dudes from Hawaii won that
Tua tongue.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
Bailoa is looking forward to.
Speaker 14 (14:38):
Long story short. I think a lot of people know
I looked up to Marcus when I was in high school.
He was at Oregon, then when he transitioned getting drafted
to the Tennessee Titans. You know, he you know, I
was a big fan of him. Still am just of
the person that he is outside of the player, and
you know, just happy for for his success. I know
(14:59):
he's been going through ebbs and flows throughout you know,
years and teams. But if you get to know the
kind of person he is, I think, you know, the
playing and whatnot is his second you know, so I
would say not playing Jayden Daniels. No, he's a great player,
but you know that that's not who I'd be playing
(15:21):
against I'd be playing against their defense and vice versa.
Speaker 9 (15:26):
I will be up early watching the game on the
pregame show.
Speaker 8 (15:29):
Will this guy right here?
Speaker 9 (15:30):
That's Bucky Irvin, the Bucks starting running back and one
of the better players at his position, who has barely
played due to a foot and shoulder injury. He was
back at practice for the tam Bay Buccaneers today. Excellent
excellent news. By the way, so is Chris Godwin, who's
been dealing with a leg injury. Todd Bowles weighed in
on the potential return of his running.
Speaker 15 (15:51):
Back and that was a walkthrough I limited today. We'll
see what he does tomorrow and that Friday. So it's
good to have him back out there, and it's the
first to him becoming pilotive and starting to work his
way back.
Speaker 7 (16:03):
Are you going to be in full pads at all
this week where he can test that shoulder?
Speaker 15 (16:07):
No, we're not gonna be a full pads all right.
Speaker 8 (16:10):
So remains to be seen whether or not Bucky Irving
will play.
Speaker 9 (16:12):
But let's talk about it with our good friend Brian Balder.
Speaker 8 (16:16):
What's up all? So the Bucks get the bills.
Speaker 9 (16:20):
I believe sources tell me that you will be there
for this game, which will be fun. So the Bills
have struggled to stop the run. I think that's pretty obvious.
The Bucks potentially are looking at getting their starting running
back back. How big of a factor could this be
in this game.
Speaker 16 (16:36):
Well, you look at last week Ian and the trouble
that the Buffalo defense had stopping Devon a Chan. He
had the best game he's had all year. It was
big runs, it was between the tackles, it was explosive runs.
The Bills have had problems. I mean, you go back
to you know, Derek Henry, you know in the first week,
and you look at Jeon what he did to this
(16:57):
Bills defense. They have given up a lot of big runs.
It It's been a problem, not just this year, but
in past years also. And so whether Bucky plays or not,
it's got to be a priority right now for Sean
McDermott to be able to tighten things up up front
and get the run fits fixed. Otherwise what we saw
last week from Devon could very easily happen, especially if
(17:20):
Bucky Irvin should be ready to go on the other side.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Though I was there.
Speaker 16 (17:24):
Last week in announcing that New England and Tampa Bay game,
and the Bucks gave up a ton of big plays
last week defensively. I mean, you think about this throw
right here on the outside to Mac Collins. Okay, he
beat Benjamin Morrison right there. That's Kyle Williams right there
for a seventy two yard touchdown right there. And the
(17:45):
throws right here, like over the middle to Stefan Diggs,
and to throw at the end of the first half
the Digs and this run right here by Treyvon Anderson.
I mean he went fifty five yards to pay Der.
He went sixty nine yards to pay her.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
They gave up more big plays as they might have
given up all year.
Speaker 16 (18:01):
This really cemented the game right there at the very
end when he went sixty nine yards. And so you know,
if you're Tampa Bay, you do not want to have
that on your resume, and you don't want that two
weeks in a row up there in Buffalo with Josh
Allen's ability to create those kind of plays, whether he's
running it or whether it's extending plays and getting them
(18:22):
ball down the field. So I think both teams have
defensive issues that they need to clear up if they
both want to get their seventh win.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
This week up in Buffalo.
Speaker 9 (18:32):
Yeah, just listening to what you're saying, sounds like some
offensive fireworks in which should be a very very entertaining game.
Speaker 8 (18:38):
Hopefully for all of us, hopefully for you, Baldy, great stuff.
Don't go anywhere.
Speaker 9 (18:43):
More from you, coming up, more from these guys coming up.
Speaker 8 (18:47):
What a game we got in the NFC.
Speaker 9 (18:50):
West this Sunday Seahawks Rams showdown for first place.
Speaker 8 (18:54):
Are these the two best teams in the division?
Speaker 9 (18:56):
I don't know, but we're going to get to see
them play it out on the field Sunday. Wait for
that one can wait for this guy right here, that
is Malachi Starks. Two picks the last two games, plus
the biggest thing in his career so far.
Speaker 8 (19:09):
He's going to join us on the Insiders. Coming right out.
Speaker 17 (19:14):
The Insiders is presented by Progressive get coverage you can
count on with Home and Auto at Progressive dot Com.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
And McCarthy floating it for Jefferson down field.
Speaker 8 (19:35):
But it's intercepted, picked off by Malachi.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Starks and Starks looking for some morning room, tracked down
from behind by.
Speaker 11 (19:43):
Jordan Edison two on second down drops the throw sets.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
His speech going deep. He's got a man with the
twenty yard.
Speaker 18 (19:51):
Line and it's picked off.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
Malacky stuff pulled it down.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
And I'm no rookie with us park NFL interception returns
into the forty five yard line before.
Speaker 8 (20:00):
He stepped around and with Nick clod he left to play.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
One of the best rookies in the NFL, one of
the best defensive players in the NFL over the past
couple of weeks, Ravens rookie Malachi starts joining us right
now here on the Insiders with me, Tom Peliicero as
well as Ian Rappaport. Malachi, you guys disrupted justin Jefferson
and that Vikings offense last week. It seems like as
you guys have gotten healthier, you're getting better and better.
(20:30):
What's working for you in this Ravens defense right now?
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Yeah, I think, uh, first, thanks for having me, and
I think the biggest thing is is just really guys
trusting guys to do their job, allowing guys to fly
around to have fun, but also just the brotherhood and
the connection that we're building on this defense. I mean,
guys are really you know, going out there and just
kind of letting it loose, which is allowing other guys
to you know, make plays other guys to run around,
(20:53):
and you know, we say, like we don't really care
who makes the play as long as the play gets made.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
So just us building that connection, I think is huge.
Over the last few weeks.
Speaker 9 (21:02):
Last couple of games, you have made plenty of plays,
specifically two interceptions.
Speaker 8 (21:06):
You went seven games without. Last two games you've each
had one.
Speaker 9 (21:11):
Is is something slowing down for you to kind of
allow you to have that? And I guess for the
first couple of games where you're like, you know, when
am I going to get my first NFL pick?
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Yeah, I think I think it's kind of you know,
you want it like right away, you know, but that's
just sometimes it works like that and sometimes it doesn't.
But it's really just uh, trusting myself in my preparation
is just really you know, the guys throughout the week,
you know, just the work that we put in, and
when I see something, just don't hesitate.
Speaker 5 (21:39):
Just kind of like I said earlier, just kind of
let loose and go play.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
And I think, you know, a lot of the experience
that we have on our defense has allowed me to
do that.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
You played with and against a lot of really good
players in the sec at Georgia. When you look around
this defense and you're with guys like Kyle Hamilton and
Rokwan Smith and Marlon Humfrey has been a really good
play for a long time. What if anything if you
picked up from those guys relatively short period of time,
that might have helped your game.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
Yeah, I think, uh, something Kyle says all the time,
it's just go play goodball, and it's you know, when
you're in the best safety in the league. It's easy to
say that for him. But I think just being just
being under his wing. I mean, all those guys just
allowing me to really learn how they see the game
of football. But just you know, watch and you know us,
(22:28):
I don't know he I mean, just his experience and
what he brings. I mean just I'm learning from everybody,
you know, and I mean it's special and I'm super grateful.
So just being able to be in a room like
that with a bunch of elite guys who've been doing
an elite level for a long time, it's it's really
a blessing.
Speaker 9 (22:45):
You guys have had such an interesting season, right, I mean,
obviously you start off struggling more than you guys have
had as an organization. Years now you want to bunch
and row in and it look like you guys are
kind of in the middle of a role.
Speaker 5 (22:58):
Now.
Speaker 9 (22:59):
You hadn't been with this team, obviously you're rookie before
this year. Was the first part of the season a
little weird. I mean, we're guys telling you like, no, no, no,
we're good. I trust us, Like this is a good team.
Like was that kind of odd to kind of go through?
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
It was weird for me.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Because like coming from college, I mean I didn't really
I didn't really lose a lot. I mean, but there
was never like a the faith never you know, dropped
at all. You know, God's always kept their faith in.
You know, the message was always the same, and God's
never had a bad attitude about anything, you know. So
that's like kind of when I knew that, like, that's
(23:38):
that's not the case, you know. And I think watching
the older guys and how they handled their situation and
just you know, me being a younger guy trying to
learn my role and how I fit in on the
team but also still be myself. I think I kind
of kept that same attitude, and you know, it's just
been it's just been special.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
You know, any week is any week is every week
is a new week.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
The goal is to go want to know each week,
and I think that's just our mindset moving forward.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
You were in Green Bay for the draft back in April,
and there was no guarantee exactly when you were going
to go.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
I actually bumped into you. You were coming into do
an interview on NFL Network.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
I was headed back to the hotel for a break
between shows, and you told me you're like, listen, I'm
going to go out and like buy some card games,
board games to play with the family and kind of
pass the time.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Did you do that? And what was that weight like
until you finally came off the board at number twenty seven?
Speaker 4 (24:29):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (24:30):
Yeah, So I brought un know my family.
Speaker 3 (24:33):
We're big on h know, so we played it, you know,
because it could have been an early night or it
could be along n you know, I didn't really know.
It was just a blessing to be there, but I
mean it was special to us, opportunity that I'll never
get back again. You know, you only go through it once,
and I landed at the perfect place. I mean, I mean,
(24:53):
it's beyond a blessing. You know, guys put me in
the best spot possible, around the best people possible.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
I mean, so that was a special right and I'm
just I'm grateful to be here.
Speaker 8 (25:04):
I want to go back to the draft as well.
You and I talked.
Speaker 9 (25:06):
I think it was the Wednesday before the draft in
the Clutch at the Clutch party, I was talking to
your your parents, I believe in your fiance, and they
all hate to fly, and they were talking about how
their plan was to drive to all of your games.
Speaker 8 (25:22):
Has that happened?
Speaker 9 (25:23):
Have they been or have they started flying because now
you're in the NFL and you had games all over
or do they still drive to come see you play?
Speaker 3 (25:30):
Uh no, so my my parents flew once. My lives
with me, of course, but uh they they've driven every game.
They drove the.
Speaker 5 (25:40):
Buffalo from from Georgia, so that was a good low hike.
Uh but no, they've they've driven.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
We're not a really big flying family, but I think
we're We're justin at least I am, you know, because
I got a fly every other week some games to it.
Speaker 8 (25:56):
There we go.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
The last thing for you real quick, Harry turned twenty
to tomorrow. I know, you're getting ready for the Browns
and it's a big week, but you give yourself a
little break.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
What are you gonna do tomorrow for fun?
Speaker 3 (26:07):
You cook your cake, watch a little film, and go
to bed early. That's that's my that's my night of
fun cooking.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
That's all of our dreams right there. We're older.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
We just want to go to bed all the time. Malachi,
thanks a ton for being here. Man, great seeing you again.
Best luck the rest of the season.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Thank you appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Time now for good.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
Coverage presented by Progressive Insurance. The Leader Boom appears to
be back in Seattle, where the Seahawks whole quarterbacks to
the fifth lowest passer rating in the league at eighty
three point three percent. Seahawks corners Wreek Woolan and Josh
job have been locked down in man coverage on the
two lowest completion percentage while playing a man coverage in
twenty twenty five. Woolen leads the league allowing just twenty
(26:50):
one point one percent completions. Job in second at twenty
eight point six. This according to next jen Stats, a
huge matchup Seahawks ran on Sunday, so we need everybody
here Welcome back to the Insiders presented to Buy Progressive Insurance.
Tom Belisaro, Brian Baldier, Mark Ross, Bucky Brooks are triplets
right here to break this down. And Baldi, you know
(27:13):
that Sean McVay has been mister eleven personnel, at least
it was early in his career with the Rams, but
we've seen a little evolution.
Speaker 2 (27:20):
What do you see it on tape?
Speaker 16 (27:22):
Well, a whole lot more than one tight end on
the field. Last week we saw three in routine. Thirteen
personnel groupings. But they play four tight ends, they dress
four tight ends, and they get them all involved and
they all have a different purpose. And you can look
at all the different plays I'm going to show you here.
Here's there Higbee Allen in Parkinson and you're going to
(27:43):
see just the combo block with Parkinson right there up
to the middle linebacker. You can see Davis Allen along
with hatebe as tailand Williams scores easily. Here's a here's
a look right here Davis Allen and the things that
they do with him, sort of like that f bac
hvac right now here. He's the lead back right here
for Kyro going up right up here on the middle
(28:04):
linebacker the forty nine ers and button them up and
then Kyra Williams cutting right off. But you can see
a tight ended bunch formation.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
You don't see this very often.
Speaker 16 (28:13):
Heyb will stay in like right here, Davis Parkinson's going
to get the block to seal the edge so that
Stafford can get out, and Davis Allen is going to
catch this pass off with scramble drill, his third touchdown
catch of the season. And you cannot forget about the rookie,
all right, And you can't forget about like right here,
Davis Allison in motion, he's gonna block, and then they're
(28:34):
gonna just drag a tight end parking Parkinson across the formation.
Here the forty nine ers bump into each other. Parkinson
has left free east course his first touchdown of the season.
And then the rookie Jarrence Purgason here there's the second
round pick at Oregon. They get him matched up on
the forty nine ers linebacker right here, a little out
(28:55):
and up double move, and Stafford's just.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Waiting on the rooky.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
They get open and they get a.
Speaker 16 (28:59):
Big after the forty nine ers closed the gap. But
I gain to twenty eight twenty they got the big
explosive play from Ferguson. So the Rams have a lot
of different packages. They can play all four tight ends,
three of them at one time a bunch, and I
think it was a big part of the Rams' biggest
offensive output of the season last week against the division
(29:22):
rival in the San Francisco forty nine.
Speaker 13 (29:26):
You know, Baldy, the thirteen personnel package that the Rams
are using with the three tight ends, the unit is
seventeen percent of the time, more than anybody else in
the league. And from a defensive perspective, it's a nightmare
to have to defend against because in essence, what they
have the ability to do is they can.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
Put all three tight ends on one side like you show.
Speaker 13 (29:43):
It creates an unbalanced formation because they're five people to
that side. So now you got to bump over and
get out of source. The next play, they can put
one of those guys in the backfield. Now you deal
them with an id formation, two tight ends, and it's problematic.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
They can spread them out.
Speaker 13 (29:57):
They can do all these different things, and so as
a defensive play caller, you're trying to figure out do I.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Stay in base, do I go goal line. Do you
even have to pay a nickel?
Speaker 13 (30:06):
They are dictating the terms and they're making the game easy,
not only in the run game, but in the passing game.
For Matthew Stafford bringing an idea from Sean McVay, and
it's one that teams that face the Rams down the
stretch you better get ready for because it's problematic.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Mark.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
We invoked the Legion of Boom there in the good
coverage segment and this, certainly this defense looks statistically the
way they play similar to what we saw back in
twenty thirteen when the Seahawks were the best team in football.
What I'm struck by is the offense is more consistent
throwing the ball than they ever were in those days.
What do you see right now in terms of how
(30:41):
well rounded this Seattle team is?
Speaker 12 (30:44):
Yeah, I'm seeing a team that may have an argument
as the most complete team in the league. And that's
because of First of all, they've got the number three
scoring offense in the league, led by Sam Darnold, who's
earning every penny that they gave him this offseason, playing
like a.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Top five quarterback.
Speaker 12 (31:00):
I could get into the MVP conversation if he keeps
playing like this and he's dropping all those bombs to
Jackson Smith and Jigma, who leads the league in the
total yards there, and then with I think the Rashid
Shaheed signing is just going to even add to the
explosiveness of that pass game. And they haven't even unleashed
the run game yet. I think Kenneth Walker is still
(31:20):
waiting to break out. So that's still there. The defensive side,
we saw the corners there and then led by the
front with Burphy and Williams, and then the back end
there with the rookie Nick Amana Warre who is just
the Kyle Hamilton West Coast, let's just say now. And
then Mike McDonald who of course has made his name
as the defensive genius, but has shown himself as a
(31:41):
complete head coach as well and one of the bright
young stars Bucky in the league coming up. So when
you talk about a top five all, it's a top
five defense and playmakers at all levels on both sides
of the field.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
With a great head coach, they're gonna be a hard out.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
They're definitely going to be a heart out.
Speaker 13 (31:58):
Had a chance to witness it first in when the
Seattle Seahawks came down to Jacksonville and you saw the
front line dominance, meaning that defensive front. The young guys
are not getting enough credit byan Murphy being able to
get it done. Leonard Williams, the Vet is doing the
DeMarcus Lawrence. They got so many young guys that they're
throwing in there. They overwhelm you with their talent. And
(32:18):
this is a classic John Snyder team. They're big, fast, physical,
they're versatile. They continue to keep adding young pieces to
the puzzle and Mike McDonald has done a great job
of elevating everything in the program. Yeah, the Seattle Seahawks
are real and this battle between the Rams and the
Seahawks may be a preview to an NFC championship game
(32:38):
that we may see down the road.
Speaker 9 (32:42):
Welcome back to the Insiders, presented by Progressive of Insurance,
where you can learn that your fantasy lineup is not
as good as this one, and if you're like me,
it's not even close. That's your perfect fantasy lineup. Note
all the guys that you don't have on your team,
now this is more like it.
Speaker 8 (32:58):
This is like my team. That's the end perfect lineup.
Speaker 9 (33:01):
All the players who are not good enough to start
for anyone else except for me.
Speaker 8 (33:05):
That's basically my life. Let's get an experts take on it.
Speaker 9 (33:09):
This is Marcus my words with our good friend Marcus Grant.
Speaker 8 (33:14):
So I want to go.
Speaker 9 (33:16):
We got plenty of things to talk to you about,
but first I want to talk about AJ Brown since
he created some news in the fantasy world with this
right here, saying if you got me on Fantasy man,
get rid of me. So the big question for you, Marcus,
are we dropping AJ Brown from our fantasy team.
Speaker 19 (33:36):
We are not dropping AJ Brown, although admittedly it's not
the greatest position to be in because yeah, the production
has been inconsistent, especially relative to where you likely drafted
him in your fantasy league. But he is still a
primary weapon in the passing game. He went six straight
games of at least six targets, so he's getting usage.
Speaker 4 (33:54):
The problem is.
Speaker 19 (33:55):
The production has not really followed it.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
So I can.
Speaker 19 (33:58):
Understand maybe not having him in your starting life. But
if you drop him, I guarantee you someone else in
your league will snatch him up quicker than you can blink.
Speaker 9 (34:06):
And if you're in a keeper league, you probably want
to keep him around it now, for this year for
next year. He's always going to ball whenever he is
on the field. All right, now, let's get to the
reason why we have you here. Give us some sleepers
that I could try to get just like a little
bit better.
Speaker 8 (34:19):
We'll start at the quarterback position.
Speaker 19 (34:21):
Go all right, well, starting at quarterback, it's going to
be too a tongue of ioloa. And I know it's
been a struggle for the Dolphins for much of the year,
but we have seen to really be able to take
advantage of favorable matchups, and this one is about as
favorable as they come. Washington, by the numbers, the third
best matchup for fantasy quarterbacks this season. Five weeks in
(34:41):
a row, they've allowed a quarterback to get you at
least nineteen fantasy points. Four of those five games, the
quarterback has been above twenty two fantasy points. We're seeing
to as start to find a rhythm, especially with Jalen
Waddle getting the ball out to the backfield to Devon
a Chan. So this feels like a real good opportunity
if you stream quarterbacks are certainly in two quarterback formats
to have two a starting for you.
Speaker 9 (35:01):
You mentioned navon a chair, No sleeper there but once
you give me a running back sleeper from my lineup.
Speaker 19 (35:09):
Let's go to Quinn Sewn Judkins with the Cleveland Browns.
And the Browns obviously offensively are a little bit of
a mess this year, but you go back to Week
two when Judkins made his NFL debut, it was against
the Baltimore Ravens, went for sixty one yards on tim carries.
Actually gave you ten fantasy points if you were old
enough to start him at five games this year with seventy.
Speaker 8 (35:28):
Five or more rushing yards.
Speaker 19 (35:30):
And while the Ravens run defense has improved from where
it was early in the season, we did see Aaron
Jones have a few nice runs, rip off a few
big games, average over five yards per carries. So I
do think with the Browns maybe not wanting to put
everything on the arm of Dylan Gabriel, I think they
lean on Quinn Shawn Judkins, and he's a nice flex
option I think for a lot of fantasy managers.
Speaker 9 (35:50):
All right, cool, another one I don't have. What about
the wide receiver position. Give me a sleeper there.
Speaker 19 (35:57):
I'm gonna go Jordan Addison here, And the numbers for
Addison last week weren't particularly great against Baltimore, but it
wasn't for lack of effort on his part, or even
on JJ McCarthy's part. Eleven targets last week against the Ravens.
He's had fifteen targets overall in the two games he's
played this season with JJ McCarthy. It did help a
little bit that McCarthy threw the ball forty two times.
(36:19):
Now they get to Chicago Bears, which has been a
top three favorable matchup four wide receivers, especially over the
last month or so. They've given up the third most
yards to the position in that span. So I think,
especially if it ended up being another high pass volume
game for McCarthy and the Vikings, Addison is a nice
wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
Three play.
Speaker 8 (36:38):
Now we're talking. He is my wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Three.
Speaker 8 (36:41):
Let's go, all right, give me a tight end sleeper,
William Mark.
Speaker 19 (36:45):
We'll go back to that Madrid game. I mentioned to
a tongue of Ia Looe while on the other side
you got zach Ertz. And some of this is just
about who's not going to be there for the Commanders.
I mean, we know Jayden Daniel's not going to play,
Terry McLaurin not expected to play Mark. There's Mariota in
at quarterback, and he has looked in ERT's direction quite
a bit. The number one target for Mariota has been
(37:06):
Deebo Samuel, but number two has been zach Ertz. Fourteen catches,
one hundred and fifty six yards and a touchdown and
a good matchup. For as good as Miami has been
against wide receivers, they have been driving the struggle bus
against the tight end position. Third best matchup for the position.
So I just think the ball's got to go somewhere.
Zach Ertz is probably going to be a beneficiary of that.
Speaker 9 (37:26):
Okay, last thing for you, Marcus, and I am for
short taken notes. I play in an IDP like, so
this then really applied to me. But why don't you
give me a sleeper defense?
Speaker 4 (37:35):
All right?
Speaker 19 (37:35):
A lot of folks are gonna think I'm a little
bit sideways on this one, but I'm gonna say the
Dallas Cowboys, and they've been a defense that we have
been targeting the other way in fantasy all season long.
Speaker 8 (37:44):
But very quietly.
Speaker 19 (37:45):
They put together double digit fantasy points in two of
their last three games. They even scored eleven points in
that game. Against Arizona, where they looked like they had
no answers for Jacoby Brissett and.
Speaker 8 (37:54):
The Cardinals offense.
Speaker 19 (37:56):
The good news for the Cowboys is that the Raiders
have given the ball at least once in eight of
their nine games so far this season. They've allowed multiple
sacks in seven of their nine games. Gino Smith has
been bitten by the interception bug multiple times this season.
So even if the Raiders were able to move the
ball and score some points, sacks and turnovers that's how
you get points with the fantasy defense, and there's an
(38:18):
opportunity for the Cowboys to get plenty of both.
Speaker 9 (38:20):
All right, Not notice Marcus great sup as always, thank
you very much for hanging out with us, and I
will not be dropping aj Brown anytime soon despite what
he says, Appreciate you man.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Devin Lloyd was back in action for the Jaguars this
past Sunday and was a tackling machine in a game
that Jacksonville somehow lost at Houston. Jaggs in need of
a bounce back this week against the Chargers. For more
on that game, Let's bring in our Bucky Brooks with me.
Tom Piliicero, all the insiders presented by Progressive Insurance. Bucky,
(38:52):
you spend plenty of time around that Jaguars team. That
game got away from them in so many different ways.
How do they rebound to get things back on track?
Speaker 13 (39:02):
Look, they have to be honest with how they lost
that game, twenty nine to ten fourth quarter lead that
they squandered away. And if you lose thirty six to
twenty nine and you can't get that back, and so
what you have to do is you have to own
up to your mistakes, find a way to fix it
and get better. And when I think about getting better,
let's start with the offense. This offense has been at
its best, but they've been able to run the football effectively.
(39:23):
Travis It's the end, has been effective, running between the.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
Tackles, getting on the edges.
Speaker 13 (39:27):
And when he runs effectively, its eases It allows Trevor
Lawrence to ease into the game. It makes it easy
to find those big plays down the field. And even
though Travis Hunter is no longer to feel we think
about Brian Thomas Junior getting back, you have Jacoby Myers
coming over in the emergency Park of Washington. This offense
can put points on the board and they gonna need
it because the Chargers play a brand the ball that
(39:49):
is very, very difficult for most teams to deal with.
When we think about offensively, they want to be physical,
they want to come at you. They have that Jim
Harbaugh toughness and bred it in them. But then it's
a Justin Herbert throwing the ball all over the yard,
Lab McConkie Ronde Guessen, Junior, Keenan Allen. They are problematic,
and then Quentin Johnson being able to be the big
play master on the outside. Defensively, jesse Mina is going
(40:12):
to keep the score down. They don't let the ball
get over the top. So you're always going to be
in these tight, low scoring affairs, and Justin Herbert is
the difference maker. This is a game where Trevor Lawrence
is going to have to level up. He is going
to how to outplay Justin Herbert for.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
The Jags to win. Can't wait to see it because
I'm gonna be in the building.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Justin Herbert won tough dudey, So I'm to get rolled
up last week so I'm all finished out that game,
not even listed on the injury report today, so he
is good to go against the Jaguars, Bucky, thank you
very much.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
We will see you again soon.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
In fact, everybody, we'll see you again soon, because you're

As a New England Patriot?
Speaker 8 (41:38):
Or is he?
Speaker 11 (41:41):
Since we play the Jets tomorrow night, how about a
two day contract, let's do it?
Speaker 18 (41:46):
Okay, changed, all right, Let's say let's take the hypothetical
here I and Gronk suits up tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
How many catches does he get against the Jets?
Speaker 9 (42:03):
Well, first of all, at least one because they're gonna
make sure that he catches it. My guess would be
he goes five for sixty five with a couple nasty blocks.
Speaker 8 (42:12):
Not quite like Gold Times, but good enough. He's crossed,
so you
