Speaker 1 (00:08):
Sauce Gardner out of concussion protocols, soon on his way
to Germany to make his debut with the Indianapolis Colts
after the trade from the jetsar Brian Baldinger is on
the way to tell Indy what exactly they got in
exchange for their two first round picks and ad Mitchell. Meanwhile,
Drake May Yeah, he's been super impressive of late. Baldy
(00:30):
gonna give the breakdown on the Patriots second year quarterback
as well. And it's Thursday. You know what that means.
Michael f Florio tells us who to start and who
to sit, not just for tonight, but for the entire weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Week ten in the NFL. We are on two double digits.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Welcome inside with the insiders here on a Thursday, Judy Batista,
Ian Rappaport and me Mike Garafalo here to get you started,
not only for Thursday night football, but like I said,
the entire weekend in the n f L, and that
weekend will include Sauce Gardner in blue. Yes, after clearing
the concussion protocol, all set to make his debut for
(01:09):
Indianapolis and made his debut in front of the media.
Gave his thoughts on the trade from the Jets to
the Colts. It was surprising for many was it surprising
for Sauce as well?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
You know, it was a great situation for me. I
feel like I actually was laying in the bed with
my girl and I was just chilling. I just got
a call from a Mouji, the GM for the Jets,
and you know, obviously the trade dadline was coming up.
So I was just like, please let it be like
my ideal situation, Like I don't want to go to
(01:45):
losing team. I don't want to go to a team
that's like on the other side of the world. So
it's like I was able to come when he told
me the Coats, like, you know, no, obviously I got
drafted there and everything like that, but you know, I
want to win and things like that. So it was like,
(02:06):
this was a great situation, obviously knowing a few guys
on the team, already being closer to home, being closer
to where I went to college, Like, no, God just
keep blessing me in many ways, so you know, it's
truly a blessing to be here in my favorite color
of blue. So you know, it just worked out perfectly.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Did that it all lined up. Brian Baldier, get on
in here, because I have a lot of Jet fan friends,
and some of them were really happy. Hey, look at
the return that we got. Some of them were like,
I can't believe we just traded our best player on
defense or whatever. Look you break down the film, you
literally break it down, Baldy's breakdown. So tell me what
are the colts in lou Anna Romo getting in Sauce Gardner?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Was it worth the return? Give me all of it? Baldy? Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
I mean, first of all, I like Sauce. I mean
everybody does. He's got a great work ethic. But he
came into this league four years ago and he was
a lockdown, shut down corner and he was first team
All Pro and.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
He deserved all of it.
Speaker 4 (03:07):
He had twenty passes defense, he had two interceptions, Like
he just threw a blanket over this league, and since
then he has declined.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Second year is still pretty good, but last year the.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Ten penalties, one interception in his last forty six starts.
I saw George Pickens run by him. This year, I
saw Darren Waller beat him for a touchdown against the Dolphins,
where he's in a Manda Man shutdown mode, and he's
not shutting him down. But he used to win with
his feet, with his length, and with his eyes, and
(03:38):
now for whatever reason, he doesn't really trust it. He's
got his hands on these guys too often. He has
committed too many penalties in key spots. And so what
the cults are getting is they're not getting the guy
that came into this league and was the best corner
in the league. They're not getting that guy. Now, Can
that change? Lou Anarumo will give him a bot of
confidence because of how he's going to use them. He's
(04:01):
going to have good players out there in the field
with them, Tarvariu's Ward, He'll have Kenny Moore there on
the slot. He'll have good pass rushers coming after him.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Here'll be a good scheme.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
And he was going to play on a team whose
offense is going to score a lot of points, and
like they never played with the lead with the Jets,
and so teams could you know, really not have to
throw the ball at the end of games in a
lot of these situations. So he's going to get a
lot more opportunities, I believe, And then it's going to
be can that talent that he came into the league
with win out like it once did. And that's where
(04:31):
he's got to get back to, because that has slipped
away from him gradually over the last couple of years.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
If sace Gardner takes off now becomes a pro bowler,
and all pro don't sit there.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
And say, like, oh, Baldy was right. Listen to what
he said.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
This could be a rejuvenating thing for sauce Gardner. And
if he had stayed with the Jets versus going with
the Colts like it may have been two different paths
into the woods like the old Robert Frost poem. So
appreciate that breakdown there, baldi ian. I kick it to
you on the Jets side things, because if he had
stayed with the Jets and continued to play that way,
(05:04):
they got to be sitting there and saying, oh, man,
what a great return we got for him?
Speaker 5 (05:08):
Then yeah, I would say this.
Speaker 6 (05:10):
So much of what this trade ends up being boils
down to how sauce Gardner plays within Annapolis Colts, right,
whether it's a.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
One, whether it's two ones.
Speaker 6 (05:19):
If he becomes the lockdown corner that bald he says
he can be, this is an absolute win for the Colts.
If he doesn't, it is not. But the reality is, guys,
this really is about the quarterback position, not corner that
saus plays the quarterback position.
Speaker 5 (05:33):
Colts believe that they have a quarterback.
Speaker 6 (05:35):
They believe that Daniel Jones is their franchise guy, is
their future quarterback. And if that's the case, they don't
need those ones. That's why you have them for the
quarterback position. They are able to trade those because they
believe they have an answer for the Jets, Judy, they
do not have an answer at quarterback.
Speaker 5 (05:50):
They have shuffled quarterbacks and out this year.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
There's still quarterback question this week, despite justin Field's playing
better the last time he played. This is all about
the Jets positioning themselves for a quarterback. That is why
for them, whatever happens here, getting two ones, setting themselves
up for the future, making sure they have a chance
at a premium franchise quarterback moving forward is the only
(06:15):
real thing that matters for the Jets. And look, if
that happens, if they find one, this is a win,
absolutely duty.
Speaker 7 (06:22):
Look, the bottom line is they're not a better team
right now without Sauce Gardner and Quentin Williams for that matter,
the Jets are not better right now. Having said that,
they weren't winning with them either, and so at some
point they had to be thinking, what do we have
to do here to turn this program around.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
You have these assets.
Speaker 7 (06:43):
The way to turn it around is use those assets
to get better, to get more picks, to get more players.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
They got blown.
Speaker 7 (06:51):
Away by the offer they Darren Ridgie said, the Colts
offer just kept getting richer and richer, and finally it
got to the point where you just couldn't say no,
even if if they like Sauce Garterer and again Quinnin Williams,
even if they like those guys and had no intention
of treating them. At some point the offer gets so
good that they have to say, wait a minute, we
could set our franchise up for a turnaround, a big
(07:12):
time turnaround, with all of these picks going forward. We
have said it over and over again since the trade deadline.
They have to hit on these picks, that is the
bottom line. But they were not going to win this
year with Sauce Gardner, so they might as well not
win without Sauce Gardner and have two number one picks
coming to them for future use.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
If you're the Colts, those are late first round picks
in large part because you feel like you got better
with Sauce Gardner.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
And if you're lou Ana Roumo, you're.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Saying, maybe I'm not even around by the time they
make those picks because I've been trying to be a
head coach for the last couple of years and being
a good defensive coordinator for a good team could help
potentially get me there.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Brian Baldinger, thank you very much. You're back.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Later in the program, I'm going to hear from you
on Drake May and so much more. Meanwhile, Brock perty
still dealing with that in the toe injury. He'd be
again the week limited this week, but it's like a
different limited.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
It's a progression.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
John Lynch on the radio out there in San Francisco
saying he's doing more this week. We'll evaluate at the
end of the week and see where we go. So
that's where Brock's at the last couple of weeks on
the practice field, giving him a little bit more and
he's making good progress. We'll see if it winds up
being him or mac Jones this weekend.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
In Yeah, it certainly seems like without a full week
of practice. Certainly seems like mac Jones again, but we
shall see. Meanwhile, James Cook took a step forward in
practice today dealing with an ankle injury. Did not practice yesterday,
was a limited participant today, making you believe that he's
got a real shot Judy to be able to play
on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
Remember, this is a guy who had more than twenty carries.
Speaker 6 (08:43):
Last week, left the game, seemed to tweak his ankle,
got it retaped, came back in the game. The fact
that he was to get back in the able to
get back in the game is an indication that this
week probably decent chance that he's back on the field
for the Bills.
Speaker 7 (08:58):
Pretty good chance that pan is running back ric o'dondell
is going to be on the field too. He got
banged up against the Packers last week, despite having a
great day two touchdowns. All of that, he returned to
practice on Thursday. That is a big sigh of relief
you can hear coming from Carolina. He didn't practice on
Wednesday with a quad injury, but certainly things seem to
be headed in the right direction as they prepare to
(09:20):
play the Saints this week. But you know what that
game is on Sunday. We have a game tonight. Week
ten is kicking off in Denver. It is what a
beautiful day in Denver. It is Raiders versus Broncos, a
very nice AFC westclash, and our guy Jeffrey Chadia is
in Denver for TNF.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Hi, Jeffrey.
Speaker 7 (09:43):
It looks great there set the scene for us.
Speaker 8 (09:47):
It looks great, But lets can be deceiving, Judy, because
it's very windy here. The chewats behind me, they're in sunshine.
I'm in the shade. If it was I had hair
right now, Judy, I would not be happy. It's so
windy out here right now. But a great game come
with today, a big AFC West class between the Raiders
and the Broncos. Yes, the Raiders are struggling right now
at two wins six, but they always play tough games
(10:09):
against the Broncos. The Broncos they're at seven to two
in first place, riding a sixth game win streak for
fourth quarter comebacks. I would not be surprised you if
this game comes down to the wire because the process
are playing close games. Rock poofers back with the Raiders.
He's doing a good job for them. No patricks or
tant for the Broncos. This should be fun both these teams.
(10:29):
They know each other well and it should be another
great game between them.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Jeffrey, thank you.
Speaker 7 (10:34):
Don't go too far because we are going to catch
up with you in a little bit from Denver.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Here is the matchup. You still got to love this.
Speaker 7 (10:42):
I know the Raiders are struggling right now in Denver's
on top of the division and really has the best
record in the AFC. But anytime you get a division
rivalry like this, it's a good one. Thursday eight, fifteen Eastern.
That's tonight on Prime Video.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Mike, thank you, Judy, and tragic news frankly into the
NFL world on Thursday morning for the Cowboys four again
the entire league. Marshawn Neelan, the Cowboys defensive and found
dead at the age of twenty four. Police say Nieland
was found dead this morning of an imperent self inflicted
(11:19):
gunshot wound after evading authorities in his vehicle and fleeing
the scene of an accident on foot. Authorities lost sight
of the vehicle before locating it minutes later. Neilan was
selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the
twenty twenty four NFL Draft out of Western Michigan. In
eighteen games played four starts, the defensive lineman had twenty
six tackles, four quarterback hits in one sack also had
(11:41):
a touchdown the other day off of a blocked field goal,
and then just a couple of minutes later, dead at
the age of twenty four, far too soon. The Cowboys
releasing a statement saying, in part, Marsham was a beloved
teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers
regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Patalina and his family.
Jane Slater, who covers the Cowboys extensively for US, has
(12:03):
more on Niland.
Speaker 9 (12:05):
As coaches, players and fans react to the shocking news.
A note from his former DC Mike Zimber to me saying, quote,
he was a great person, eager to learn, wanted to
be great. He didn't take any crap from anyone on
the field. He studied hard, loved playing the game tough.
Zimmer added, My last conversation with him was keep being you.
(12:26):
You're going to have a great career. That career, sadly
was just getting started.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Nilan's agent, John Pursley, had this statement. He said, he
poured his heart and every snap, every practice, and every
moment in his life. To lose someone with his talent,
spirit and goodness is a pain I can hardly put
into words. Meanwhile, from the Nielan family, we are devastated
by this tremendous loss and are still processing the depth
of our grief. As Marsham was making his mark on
the football field the Dallas Cowboys, he held an even
(12:53):
more special place off the field as a devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, grandson,
and friend.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
He was kind, to, humble, and full of love.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
His light shone brightly in every life he touched, and
his spirit will continue to live on through the countless
hearts he inspired Those hearts around the league.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Echoing this is the rest of the statement.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and
support from friends, fans, and the community during this difficult time.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
We as for privacies.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
We come together as a family to honor and remember
Marshan's life and legacy. As I was saying, those around
the league, former teammates, those who coach Neelan have been
taking to social media as well as microphones across the
league to voice their sympathy and condolences to Niel and
Neelan's family and those that he was close with. All
(13:39):
of us here at NFL Network extend the same Marshawn
Neelan gone too soon at the age of twenty four.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
May waiting on the snap.
Speaker 10 (13:47):
If he takes the snap, he looks to the left
and he throws it for podcasts on a wheel, any
drops it in the mid section for a Patrons touchdown
sex so sex is super.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Split to the left. May have to throw fighters over
the middle, Pitchers off the ticks, turls right side, step
front of the five, cross.
Speaker 10 (14:07):
To the side, dogs byline touch down, Patriots.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
The water rough dicks to get outside of the byline.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
Man.
Speaker 6 (14:15):
You can just hear the love and Scott Zolac's voice
talking about how sexy that throws dropped it right in
the bucket, not in the boat, not in the boat.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
In the bucket.
Speaker 6 (14:24):
The boat is what the Patriots are taking down to
Tampa to go play the Buccaneers. The bucket is the
thing that you throw it in and training get but
covered three years of the Patriots.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Brian Baldinger, welcome back in here. Cover three years.
Speaker 6 (14:36):
The Patriots saw that d're a million times, saw Tom
Brady do it a million times. That is how you
do it. Drake May is, Drake May is really good.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
Baldy.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
You break it all down, as we learned in the
previous segment. Give me your Baldy breakdown of Drake May
and this Patriots offense that has fanned so so excited.
Speaker 4 (14:58):
Well, he stands at the top of the leader board
right now, ian with the number one rated quarterback in
the league, completing you know, seventy five percent of his
passes and good decision making. But the foundation to this
team is the running game. I mean, Josh mcdaniels's back.
They've run it more than they've thrown it. So you'll
see Jack west over right here, the fullback Trevon Henderson
right here, the rookie back that's Will Campbell, the rookie
(15:20):
left tackle Jared Wilson, the rookie left guard that they
get out there on the perimeter. All right, good explosive
run and winning the line of scrimmage. Now in every
game in the sixteen winning streak in you can see
big explosive plays in the past game. Here they make
sure that Drake May has protection so that Damario Douglas
can run this deep over out right here, and he's
(15:42):
really good with it after the catch.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
But they've got.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Explosive plays to Kaishan Boute, to Stefan Diggs. They take
their shots down the field. Now I mentioned protection's key,
So here's Hunter Henry. He's gonna chip on the end
right here because protection has been an issue for Drake
May's been sacked a lot, and he gets time like
that he usually doesn't miss. Like his accuracy right now,
he can really hit the bullseye right now with a
(16:08):
lot of these throws and stick throws.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
And then what you have to.
Speaker 4 (16:11):
Account for though, he's a very talented runner ian Like
if he feels pressure, if he feels his pocket getting
dirty and collapsing on him, like he's a he'll find
the escape lane and then he can make people miss
and he picks up good yard and she's a third
leading rusher on the team right now, averaging almost five
yards of carry. Now we saw this Zach the Scott
(16:32):
and Zolac highlight. Here that's themary O Douglas against Jalen Walker.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
It's a matchup.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
It's a design play, a wheel route against the rookie linebacker.
And like Scott and Zolac said, he dropped the right
in the bucket, not in the boat in the bucket. Ian.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
And then I wanted to.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Put this play in because Cleveland came out to Drake
May quite a bit. And what I like when they
do blitz him, he seems like he always has an answer.
And I know Todd Bowles has had two weeks to
get ready for this here Ian and I just feel
like that's going to be a big test. Is Todd
Bowles pressures coming after Drake May? Do they have the
answer like they have had a six game win streak,
(17:08):
or do is Todd Bowles get to the rookie quarterback
and affect.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
Him a little bit?
Speaker 6 (17:12):
Yeah, I'm a little jealous you get to see this
in person, covering it on the radio.
Speaker 5 (17:16):
This is the thing.
Speaker 6 (17:17):
I mean, You're right, I mean Todd Bowles having extra
time coming after a young quarterback. I know Drake May
is good, but he's still a young quarterback. That is
going to be fascinating to watch. What do you look
forward to seeing? What are you looking forward to seeing
from this Tampa Bay Bucks team on Sunday.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
Well, you know, first of all, they've had a lot
of injuries. I mean from the very beginning, Tristan Wurz
was out, and you know, they've had receivers out and
guys at the secondary.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
So they're going to get healthier than what they have been.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
But regardless, what we have seen is a very resilient team,
a team that has had comebacks, late game comebacks. We're
going to see Abuka back in the lineup. I think
he's been a difference maker in every game that he's
been in this year. Nobody seems to be able to
and Baker has just been so good over these last
(18:04):
three years that he might be even better this year
than he even was last year. And last year was
one of the great years we've seen from any quarterback
in the history of this game. Over you know, forty
touchdown passes over forty five hundred yards, but he just
makes it all go. And the lineup front, despite the
fact that they lost their starting right guards, starting right
tackle early in the year, they still played very well
(18:26):
up front. And then you know, defensively, they've overcome the
loss of you know, Hassan Redick went out they've had
some injuries there, but they should get healthier. And I
feel like we're gonna see the best of the Bucks
coming out of this.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Buy.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (18:41):
I can't wait to see this because the offenses are
both bald, but the defenses are kind of good too.
So is it gonna be low scoring, high scoring offensive fireworks?
Cannot wait to see it. You're gonna be there in person, Baldy,
Thank you so much. Great breakdowns as always, and enjoy
that game on Sunday.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
We're gonna enjoy the game tonight. We're gonna be watching.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
And that guy right there, Brock Bauers, the best young
tight end in football. That's not a controversial statement. It
is just reality. Jeff Tredea from Denver tells us all
about it.
Speaker 5 (19:17):
Hey, Dominic today today its party.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
All right, bring everything you got, let's go away.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Both those the ball man so touch.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
The play, better play.
Speaker 11 (19:28):
We had to stay.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Me on the play.
Speaker 10 (19:34):
Ash JENSI through the hall, touchdown riders.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Jenny Stunners to the hall, big big he's been in
the backfield.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
Game on the play host touch out of the game we.
Speaker 7 (19:48):
Play because we had.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
To stay you put it to keep bringing squatty.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
Denver, Colorado side of Thursday Night Football Week tend Raiders
at the Broncos. I was just talking to our buddy
Jeff Jerdia during the break. I said, I don't think
I've been to Denver in like ten years. I missed
that place. Great place. Jeff Toda lucky enough to be
there for us for NFL Network and our coverage tonight.
So let's talk about this matchup Raiders Broncos. Broncos running
(20:17):
backs and JK. Dobbins, R. J.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
Harvey.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
A lot of initials there. How much of a problem
are they going to pose for this Raiders defense.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Well, they're gonna be a big problem, Mike.
Speaker 8 (20:27):
And you talk to Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, and
he's really impressed with this duo because they're good at
we're carrying the football and they're good catching the football,
which makes them a really tough tandem to deal with.
In fact, Graham said, here, those two guys remind him
of Sean Payton's New Orleans teams when they had guys
like Pierre Thomas and Alvin Kamara carrying the football. And
so this is gonna be a tough matchup for the
(20:48):
Raiders because They know these two guys are going to
power this offense and get bo Nicks a lot of help.
Sean Payton talked about the fact that Arjie Harvey's really
coming on as a receiver. When I saw Alva Kamara
and Coles, I knew he was a great ka could
be a good runner. That finding out that Harvey is
a good runner, it could be a really good receiver
as well.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Speaking of really good receivers, I was old enough to
remember Brock Bauers as a rookie and how dominant he
was back then. He's been injured this year and then
all of a sudden, we saw him this past week
starting to look more like Brock Bowers. So this is
going to be a challenge for this Denver defense. Out
of the Broncos Handlebowers.
Speaker 8 (21:25):
Well, He's going to be a tough challenge for them
because he came in had twelve catches one hundred and
twenty seven yards last week. Gino Smith has been struggling,
throwing a lot of turnover, throwing a lot of interceptions.
He has four touchdown passes and that lost to Jacksonville.
And so the Broncos defensive coordinator Vas Joseph has talked
about not having Petros Sertainn in this game, their star cornerback,
could be an issue for them because last year they
(21:46):
were going to put certain on Brock Bowers and hold
him down. Without that there, he's gonna have to really
mix and match what he does. You know, you may
see some safety some corners on him, but as Vas
Joseph said, it's not just covering the guy as getting
them down once against the football. So Brock Powers is
going to be a big part of this game as well.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
That's how good he is a tight end.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
We don't have our top NFL Defensive Player of the
Year cornerback to cover him. That's gonna be a pro.
That's who you would put on him as a tight end.
It's pretty impressive right there. Jeffrey Toda, thank you very much.
Looking forward to all your coverage tonight leading up to
the game on.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
NFL Network as well as post game as well.
Speaker 7 (22:22):
Judy, you know what, We've got a really good one
on Sunday Night.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Two Steelers Chargers.
Speaker 7 (22:28):
The Steelers defense, coming off that eye opening performance against
the Colts, forced a lot of turnovers, looked a lot
more like themselves. We'll see if they can do it
to Justin Herbert and the Chargers. Hey, Brian Baldinger is back.
Let's talk about this game. Let's talk about the Steelers defense,
because you've got a Baldy's breakdown. What did you see
(22:49):
from that defense last week?
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Well, they kind of rebuilt it, Judy.
Speaker 4 (22:53):
It started with Jalen Ramsey going to safety last week,
and then they acquired Kyle Dugger and on the back
end they played much better. They tackled better, and the
ball didn't go over their heads. And in fact, the
first break the first play in this breakdown, Judy, is
just exactly that.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Jalen Ramsey is the first circle.
Speaker 5 (23:10):
That's Kyle Duggar.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
When they played back like this, it allowed the corners
right here to really match up and get sticky in
coverage right here, and it made Daniel Jones hold the
ball more and longer than he wanted to. And here
he scrambles and Joey Porter ends up actually getting a
sack on the play. And then look, Indianapolis left TJ.
Watt one on one right here with the right tackle
(23:33):
Braden Smith. It was his best pass rush of the
entire year. Second quarter coltal winning right here.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
TJ.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Basically ignited a complete firestorm with the Steelers defense with
that sack fumble recovery that led to a touchdown. And
then they got really aggressive in the blitz game. And
right here you see high Smith, her Big and Cano
Benton all win and they get to Daniel Jones. Sacked
him a bunch of that game. And then Peyton Wilson
(24:00):
all world judy in this game. He lined up everywhere
like here. He comes and bats the ball down from
Daniel Jones right to his friend Jack Sawyer. There he
gets his first interception, and then you know, you watch
him right here, and you watch the safeties back when
Indianapolis tried to play catch up right here, they played
a matchup zone underneath, all right, and so they're getting
really sticky, really tight in coverage. They know they got
(24:22):
safety help over the top of Daniel Jones tries to
fit it in and the rush just collapsed on him.
And when you look at who was rushing here, you
got your two rookie defensive tackles. Derek Carmon hang with
Ya Black and here comes Herbig and high Smith.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
And when Daniel Jones tried.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
To step up to clear the soup up front, there
was Herbie. That was Herbie with the strip fumble right there.
He's pretty good at that Coltri covered. But if you
look at the standings right now, you know after these
eight games, duty they're second in the league in takeaways
with sixteen. They got a bunch last week. Last year
they tied for the league league in takeaways. If they're
taking the ball away and they're giving the extra bats
(24:58):
to Aaron Rodgers and the offense, this team's going to
win a lot of games.
Speaker 7 (25:03):
I mean, you were showing all of that pressure that
they were bringing on Daniel Jones, and I'm sitting here thinking,
no Joe Alt for the Chargers, they've certainly had their
fair share of injuries on that offensive line. How does
that Chargers offense try to attack that Steelers defense?
Speaker 4 (25:17):
Now, well, the Steelers have been vulnerable to the run. Now,
the Colts didn't really try to get Jonathan Taylor going
last week for whatever reason. But I mean it always
starts with harball. It's going to start with them being
able to stop the run. They've had struggles this year,
you know, against Cincinnati against the Jets stopping good running backs.
So I mean it starts there with stopping the run.
(25:38):
But then you know, Justin Herbert's been hit a lot
more than any other quarterback in the league, Judy, but
he's so big and strong. Even if you hit him,
he still completes a lot of passes, and so you know,
can you affect him so they can't make passes to
his rookie tight end Rondy Gatson or a fleet of
receivers right now where he feels pretty comfortable throwing it.
So you know, he's still going to take his shots
(25:59):
down the field regardless. And uh, you know, we'll see
if Quinton Johnson is ready to go. But uh, you know,
the receivers have had a lot of success, like Keithan
Allen coming back right now. But pressure on Justin Herbert
is going to be paramount. You know this Sunday night.
Speaker 7 (26:16):
We got a bunch of good games in week ten, Baldy,
thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Yeah, thanks, Judy. On the NFL, is it Berlin look.
Speaker 11 (26:25):
Out by the job from the job, from the job,
kick me because not in the weekend is an unbelievable
on this time.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
Shot think Taylor for the great running back, mister Robinson.
Speaker 11 (26:46):
Oh my goodness, International games seem to look the coolest
on TV.
Speaker 6 (26:58):
Part of the reason because the sow psyched that the
NFL is there Berlin FanFest in full force. Games till
a couple of days away. Fans are already getting psyched
for it. I expect an excellent, excellent atmosphere for Falcons
Colts as well. Our good friend Jane Slater tells us
all about.
Speaker 9 (27:18):
It well as we stand out front of the Brandenburg Gate.
It is, of course known for all sorts of history,
but we're making history this weekend with the first NFL
game here in Berlin. And how about a little bit
of news. Sauce Gardner to the Colts. I caught up
with Kyle Pitts last night and asked him about it,
because he's likely traveling with Pitts, and he told me
(27:38):
he was shocked. Hey, that's the guy who just got
a new contract with the New York Jets. He said
when he popped in the tape, he's going to be
one of the taller quarters that he goes up against.
He's absolutely smart, athletic, he said. They're really going to
have to work them. Now, the Colts, they've already got
an offense that's been purring, but it's going to be
huge to get a get a guy like Gardner. When
you consider through their games this season, they're giving up
(28:00):
on average two hundred and forty five passing guards. On
the flip side. The Colts known for some of their
disguises on defense, well, they're going to need to show
all of that because Jean Robinson is the guy to start.
Not a lot of time for these teams to get
acclimated or do the sight seeing that we did, but
they will land on Friday, get right to practice, and
then it's meetings at the hotel and then kick off
(28:20):
here on Sunday.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
Time to go inside with NFL Fantasy Live. That's our guy,
Michael f Florio here on a Thursday, as always, get
you ready for Thursday End Football and the entire.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Weekend in the NFL Week ten.
Speaker 1 (28:36):
All right, let's start with Thursday end Football and the
players that we are going to start in this Broncos
Raiders matchup.
Speaker 12 (28:43):
Look, I know the last couple of weeks have been
down weeks for Courtland and he hasn't ed back to
back single digit fantasy point game since the start of
last season.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
But I think this is a week for him to
get right.
Speaker 12 (28:54):
He has had success against the Raiders in the past,
and they have allowed the fourth most Fantasy points per
game two wide receivers. They've also allowed the seventh most
yards to out wide wide receivers, and Sutton plays over
eighty percent of his snaps out wide. He also has
the safer floor of the Broncos receivers. But I do
(29:15):
think Troy Franklin is in play in this one as well.
Don't look now, but Troy Franklin leads the Broncos and
targets air yards and end zone targets, and again, this
is a favorable matchup for the receivers. The Raiders have
really struggled against the position. I lean more Sutton because
he's the outside guy, but Franklin bounces back and forth
(29:36):
between the slot and out wide, so I think he
is in play. And then the Broncos defense might be
a lay up here, but I'm not too shy to
take it. Every week they are in play, but this
week especially, they lead the NFL in sacks and it's
not close, and the Raiders have taken sacks at a
top ten rate. They've also given the ball away at
(29:57):
the third highest rate in the end, so most weeks
the Broncos defense are in play, but this is a
slam dunk matchup, the kind of matchup that if they hit,
they could have a performance that changes your fantasy week.
Speaker 5 (30:11):
Man Fourio just hates the Raiders. They so little of them.
Speaker 6 (30:15):
Now, I want to ask you who you should sit tonight.
I shume your answer is going to be everyone on
the Raiders.
Speaker 12 (30:22):
There's also a couple of Broncos I think you should
be sitting, including Evan Ingram tonight.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Look, it just hasn't happened for Evan Ingram.
Speaker 12 (30:31):
We thought he would be like the catch and run
guy there in the Sean Payton system.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Nope, that's been Troy Franklin.
Speaker 12 (30:37):
In his last two games, Evan Ingram has seven targets combined.
Last week he put up a donut zero fantasy points.
The floor is so low, we haven't seen really much
upside that I think it is okay to get away
from him. And then r J Harvey. I know he
has five touchdowns in his last three games. The issue
(30:57):
is he is eight touches or fewer in each of
those games. In fact, he only has one game all
year with more than eight touches. And while I do
think the Broncos will have a lead in this one.
The game script is leaning itself to be more.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Of a JK. Dobbins type of night. RJ.
Speaker 12 (31:14):
Harvey does bring a high upside, but you can always
rely on multiple touchdowns, and if he doesn't get those,
the floor is very low. And I know I've only
talked about Broncos so far. The Raiders are as straightforward
as it gets. You play Brock Bowers, you play Ash
and Genty, you sit everyone else.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
So there's not a whole lot to talk about when
it comes.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
To the Raiders for tonight.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
Pretty simple there, all, right, to the Jets who made
their moves on defense at the trade deadline, how about
the offense? Justin fields? I know you've been a big
field fields guy this year.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
They're playing the Browns. I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
Maybe the defense is gonna give up more points, so
that could lead to more points on offense.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
You tell me your rationale. I think this is a
week where you could sit justin fields.
Speaker 12 (31:55):
And like you said, I don't know if anyone has
been backing fields more in fantasy this season than I have.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
But it's just such a bad matchup.
Speaker 12 (32:03):
The Browns have generated sacks at the third highest rate. Meanwhile,
the Jets give up sacks at the fourth highest rate
in football, and they allow pressure at the highest. Plus
the Browns fourth fewest passing yards and seventh fewest fantasy
points per game, and maybe even more important for Justin
Field's second fewest rushing yards allowed to quarterbacks and no touchdowns.
(32:25):
If you can't bank on the running performance, you can't
bank on starting Justin Fields in fantasy that week.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
Well, what about Jared Goff?
Speaker 6 (32:33):
Not a lot of running yards there from Jared Goff,
plenty of air yards for Jared Goff. Face is a
commander's defense that's been, you know, not among the best
in the NFL. I assume we're starting him.
Speaker 12 (32:45):
Yeah, it's been more of a floor year for Jared Goff.
He hasn't quite been what he was with Ben Johnson.
But to your point, Ian, I think we need to
start viewing the commander's defense how we do with the
Bengals and how we had with the Cowboys up until
this point. Like when teams play them, you get their
guys in your fantasy lineups. The Commanders on the year
have allowed the second most pass yards, fourth most touchdowns,
(33:07):
and third most Fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. They've
allowed the most touchdown passes in the last month, and
Jared Goff right now, his touchdown.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Rate would be a career low. I don't expect that
to continue.
Speaker 12 (33:19):
I think regression hits, and I think it hits in
a big way this week in a very favorable matchup
against the Commanders.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
All Right, quinnjan Jenkins, I talked about the Jets end
of that game. How about the Browns and Quinn Sean Judkins.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
Yeah, the only thing.
Speaker 12 (33:33):
That could stop quin Shawn Jenkins' game scripts, right, Like,
whenever the Browns are in a close game and they
can continue to feed him the ball, he.
Speaker 2 (33:39):
Goes off for fantasy.
Speaker 12 (33:41):
It's been games where they fall behind two to three
scores and they have to start passing it that Judkins
has disappointed. Well, fortunately for him, the Jets haven't had
a multi score lead since Week one, So I think
this is a game where the Browns will be able
to feed Judkins.
Speaker 2 (33:57):
Throughout the whole game. And to your point, you know Williams.
Speaker 12 (34:00):
There, there's no Sauce Gardner there, like, this is a
depleted Jets defense. I think we've seen Judkins run on
the Lions and the Packers. I think he can run
on this Jets defense. You just got to give him opportunity.
And I don't see the Browns trailing by so much
that they have to get away from the run against
the Jets this weekend.
Speaker 5 (34:19):
So the Texans defense is not depleted it.
Speaker 6 (34:21):
In fact, Matt Berger is doing an excellent job at
calling place, kind of keeping that thing afloat. They play
the Jaguars and Travis Eten. What say you about starting Eten,
who's been good at times against this really good Texans defense.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Yeah, it's been an up and down year.
Speaker 12 (34:37):
We've seen some really good stretches and some downstretches for Etn,
But because of the matchup, I think it is a
six week for him. On one hand, we saw two
in getting some goal line work last week at Etn
has scored less than ten Fantasy points in three of
his last four. But for me, this is about the matchup.
The Texans have allowed these seventh fewest rushing yards, they
(34:57):
allow explosive runs at the fifth lowest rate, they're below
average and yards before and after contact, and Etn in
two of his last three games against them, has failed
to even get you nine fantasy points.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
So the floor is low, the stealing is low in
this matchup.
Speaker 12 (35:13):
I think if you have another option and the capability
of getting away, I would do so.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
All right now to the portion of the program where
we get to ask about our own teams. Wandale Robinson
is the guy I want to ask you about. Production
has been relatively consistent. We had the one Wow game
early in the year against the Cowboy.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
If you haven't really seen that. Without going through my whole.
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Roster and who like your overall thoughts on where you
put Wandell, we me.
Speaker 12 (35:37):
And you could text about your actual roster after the show.
But I have wandel Robinson as a start this week because,
like you said, the production has been pretty consistent. What
I like even more, the targets every week are very consistent.
And then they're getting a Bears defense that has struggled
against wide receivers. They've struggled primarily against slot receivers, which
is where Wandell does all of his damage. And on
(36:00):
top of that, Bears defense isn't good, the Giants defense
isn't good. I think this could be a sneaky high
scoring game, and I want players from this game in
my fantasy lineups.
Speaker 6 (36:10):
More importantly than that, I got a running back three
spot flex spot right. I picked up Tyrone Tracy last week,
which you told me to do. Didn't really pan off me.
I still won, by the way.
Speaker 5 (36:21):
I'm on a little bit of a roll one three
out of my last four.
Speaker 6 (36:23):
But whatever, Nick Chubb or Tyrone Tracy this week for
my last running back spot.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
What are your other options with Tracy?
Speaker 5 (36:33):
What I got Bill Krossky merrit is my other option there?
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Ooh, I don't like Bill this week.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
So I got Crossky Merritt, Chubb or Tracy.
Speaker 12 (36:41):
I would take the upside shot on Tracy. I think
his matchup is the best of the three. The Bears
are top three and yards before contact allowed two running backs, so.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
He should get some room to run there. He did
see more targets than Devin Singletary.
Speaker 12 (36:55):
The usage is a little frustrating because Singletary was there
RB three when.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
Camscott, who was healthy. Now suddenly he's there RB one.
Speaker 12 (37:02):
But I do think the explosive Tracy just brings more upside.
Bill Merritt, in his last four games combined, hasn't scored
a total of eighteen Fantasy points.
Speaker 5 (37:11):
Like it's just hard to trust him right now.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Yeah, he was everybody's darling coming out of training camp.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Not so much right now. There it is right there.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
NFL dot com slash Start sit for all the information
on who Michael f Florio thinks you should start and
sit in Week ten in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Go check it out. Michael f.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
Flurio, Thank you very much, pal, always appreciating your insight
here on the Insiders. Coming up, we have got some
news around the NFL regarding quarterbacks and some matchups, some
key matchups in the NFL, including Eagles Packers.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
How about that one on Monday night.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
We're gonna be discussing that when we come back on
the Insiders. Dolphins gearing up for that game in Miami.
The Dolphins after the firing and Chris career, but Mike
(38:07):
mc daniel down there in Miami still remaining the head
coach of the potential to make a statement moving forward.
As for a Tongua Bailoa and his grip on the
quarterback job, he say he's not worried about that part
of it.
Speaker 13 (38:22):
I wouldn't say I'm playing to keep my job. I
think I'm playing to try to help our team win
every time. I think that's the objective, you know, for
every quarterback that's playing, for every football player that's playing
as well, the objective is how can I help my
team win games? And so I would say, if you're
looking at it in that sense, I would say, my
(38:45):
performance needs to be better, and my performance doesn't reflect
me trying to keep my job, because that's not the
standard in which I've been playing all these other years.
Speaker 2 (38:55):
So I would say.
Speaker 7 (38:56):
That, you know, the Bears of one five of their
last six games.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
I bet the Giants are gearing up for Chicago.
Speaker 7 (39:04):
The Giants play Chicago this week. Last week, the Bear
survived one of the wildest endings you'll ever see over
the Bengals. Here is Ben Johnson on his team.
Speaker 14 (39:13):
This particular team in years past would find ways to
lose games, and now we're finding ways to win games.
And so I think they're looking to change that narrative.
And now now that we've done that, we've got to
continue to develop that killer instinct, as Dan alluded to.
So we're gonna we're going to continue to get better there.
But I think it's a really good group. I can't
(39:37):
say enough good things about our locker room. I mean,
we really have zero issues with discipline or anything of
that nature. These guys just want to come out and
play ball and win games and be there for their teammates.
So usually you got some bad apples in there, but
we really don't. We have just a really strong locker room.
I think they continue to grow and camaraderie continues to strengthen,
(39:58):
and hopefully we'll see dividends from that here the next
couple of months.
Speaker 6 (40:03):
Talked about Commander's lines with Michael f Florio.
Speaker 5 (40:08):
It's gonna be a good one.
Speaker 6 (40:09):
I remember the last time these two teams faced, it
was in the playoffs. It was kind of electric, and
you kind of wonder, what does Jared Goff and the
Lions think about facing the same team that knocked him out.
Speaker 5 (40:23):
If only there was a way to find out. Listen
to Jared Goff tell you what he thinks.
Speaker 15 (40:27):
That's definitely part of it. Absolutely. I think you know
more than that. We want to, you know, get off
of a losing streak here and get a w And
certainly you're you're thinking about that, but I think you know,
that's how many games ago, nine games ago now, so
we're trying to get a win this year and maybe
use that as a little aud of motivation if we
need it.
Speaker 1 (40:46):
Yep, it is see your breath time in Green Bay,
see your breath season. I guess you can call it
twenty seven degrees, but one hundred percent chance of green
and gold well, I mean, listen, some of that green
might be Eagles green, but.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
It's gonna blend right in.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
So yeah, I'd say one hundred percent chance of a
hundred per inside that building. Remember, the Packers were the
ones that were saying, let's ban the tesh push this offseason.
There's Matt Lafleur on the play.
Speaker 13 (41:10):
I think the best way to stop it is to
not to allow it to happen. In regards to you
can't you can't allow them in those short yarded situations
because you know exactly what they're going to do and
they've been pretty successful at it.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
Obviously, it is what it is.
Speaker 13 (41:25):
You know, the NFL made a decision and.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
We have to find a way to try to stop
the play.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
And it's a tough play to stop, all.
Speaker 1 (41:35):
Right, Eagles coming off of by Eagles really without playing
had a good week last week with everything that's really
happened within the division, with regard to the.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
Results on the field, obviously.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
The Eagles, though, still have to worry about getting healthy
Ian good news.
Speaker 6 (41:49):
For them on Thursday, Yeah, really good news. AJ Brown
and Sekuon Barkley. AJ Brown hamstring, Sako and Barkley growing.
Both those guys. We're back at practic this in advance
of the Monday nighter and Thursday. We're going to get
an official injury report at some point later today. But
just those guys being back, whether they play or not,
(42:10):
just those guys being back, Judy is a significant thing
because the Eagles kind of were running on fumes a
little bit into the by.
Speaker 5 (42:18):
Now they got.
Speaker 6 (42:19):
Through the by, They got two of their guys back,
They traded for a bunch of guys.
Speaker 5 (42:23):
This looks like a team that we'll.
Speaker 6 (42:25):
See, but looks like a team that at least could
potentially go on a little run.
Speaker 5 (42:29):
Here.
Speaker 7 (42:30):
Yeah, when last we saw them on the field, the
Eagles were demolishing the Giants. And you say, okay, well
it was the Giants, but if you just look at
what the Eagles did, they were getting right right. They
finally got the running game going. They were able to
pen Jackson dart In. They didn't let him get going
using his legs. They started looking more like a complete team,
(42:50):
more like a team, like you said, Ian, that maybe
could get on a little bit of a role. That
was their best performance of the season so far. They'd
been getting wins but sort of scuffling and not happy
with how things look. That game, they looked much more
like themselves and much more like a championship level team.
Speaker 5 (43:06):
Again.
Speaker 1 (43:08):
Yeah, the Eagles. Let's do the quick math here. Three
and a half games up in the Commanders. The Cowboys
tie is killing me. Three games up on them and
the win column, we'll.
Speaker 5 (43:17):
Say that much.
Speaker 1 (43:18):
It's hard to figure it out, but regardless, the Eagles
had a nice lead in the NFC eighth. Now it's
about positioning ANFC East. Now it's about positioning themselves in
the NBC as they try to defend their.
Speaker 2 (43:29):
Super Bowl title.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
All Right, we've got nine coaching semi finalists for the
Pro Football Hall of Fame. We've also got contributors as well,
But these are three of the nine. Here guys with
Super Bowl rings or other guys with Super Bowl rings,
And here are your contributor semi finalists for the class
of twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (43:50):
You see Robert Kraft right there in the middle, as
well as Art Rooney Junior.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
Judy, your thoughts on the coaches and contributors that are
up for the Hall of.
Speaker 7 (43:57):
Fame here, well, these are going to be narrowed down
to one that will then be put forward for a
vote by the selection committee. Listen, I know, Mike, you
and I both want Tom Coughlin in the Hall of Fame,
but it is really hard to imagine that the guy
he beat twice in the Super Bowl, Bill Belichick, is
not going to go in this year.
Speaker 6 (44:16):
I mean, if if this goes the way it should,
you got to think it's a Belichick and Craft Daily double, right.
Speaker 5 (44:23):
I Mean, isn't that what we all want see?
Speaker 6 (44:25):
If they come together and put their bury their differences
and come together.
Speaker 5 (44:29):
For the good of the NFL. That's just too good.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
To be true. It must have just have one present
the other would love to see.
Speaker 1 (44:35):
That, and then the other present the other football. We're
back on Friday to get you ready for the rest
of Week ten in the NFL.
