Speaker 1 (00:08):
The New York Jets have a chance to grab a
share of first place in the AFC East next Monday
Night against the rival Bills, and Robert Sola will not
be there to see it. We take you inside today's
stunning news and explain, or at least try why the
Jets fired their head coach. Now the Patriots just trying
to get a win, anywin, maybe some points, and they're

(00:30):
turning to a twenty two year old quarterback to do it.
We'll tell you what lies ahead for first round pick
Drake May as he gets set for his first NFL
start against the Texans. One thing's for certain, cirtan Oh,
I get it. We got one of the best lockdown
corners on the show today. Pat cir Tan the Second
will be here to tell you all about the Suddenly

(00:52):
Yes this is true. Red hot Denver Broncos Welcome inside
with the Insiders, presented by Aggressive Insurance alongside Judy Batista
and Mike Garafalo.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
I am Tom Pelisero.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
We also won a game last night kind of been
forgotten about amidst a very newsy Day fallout for the
Chiefs and the Saints. How long Derek Carr will be
out We will get into all of that, but we
will start out with this morning's blockbuster news. Robert Salla,
after three years and five games, is out as head

(01:27):
coach of the New York Jets. He finishes with a
twenty and thirty six record, albeit while going through a
lot of different transitions, specifically at the quarterback position. Jeff Olbrick,
the well respected defensive coordinator, takes over on an interim basis.
Owner Woody Johnson explain why he made this decision.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Now, I wanted to give this team the most opportunity
to win this season. I feel that we had to
go in a different direction, and that's why I did
that today. This change, the change that we made today
that I made, I believe will bring new energy and
positivity that will lead to more wins starting now. You know,

(02:11):
I've been doing this for twenty five years now. This
is probably the best team I've had in twenty five years.
I just spent felt that the best way to go
forward with a new direction. It's not an easy decision this,
This required a lot of soul searching and you know,
looking back at my experience in sports and particularly with

(02:31):
the New York Jets for twenty five years, and so
I took it. I took I took it very seriously,
and that's why I made the decision because I thought it.
I thought and think that it's going to make us
more competitive, and it's going to help us reach the
goals that the team and I want to accomplish.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Mike, Robert Sala is far from the first head coach
to be fired after a disappointing loss in London. I
checked it then, if research, he is the first head
coach fired by the former Ambassador to the United Kingdom
after a loss in London, Woody Johnson at friends at
that game, nobody likes to lose on that stage. You
read though, the statement in which he's talking about the

(03:15):
talent on this team, the respect that the coaches and
players have for Jeff Ouldbrich. It's very clear, based on
Woody Johnson's words and actions today that he is pointing
the fingers squarely at Robert Sala. Will this actually make
a difference here for the Jets moving forward?

Speaker 4 (03:32):
I do find it funny, Tom that we're talking about
or Woody Johnson was talking about Jeff Ulbrick bringing a
new energy to the team, because Robert Sala as a
head coaching candidate. I don't think we've described anybody else
as energetic as.

Speaker 5 (03:46):
Much as we talked about Robert Sala.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Now, to be fair, you could do things as a
defensive coordinator that you can't do as a head coach.
You got to kind of stay in control of everything.

Speaker 5 (03:55):
But I would say at.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Times over the last couple of years, Robert Sala looked
beaten down by the job, beaten down by the fact
that he didn't have a quarterback to compete with. And
if Robert Sala were joining us on the insadders tonight,
and by the way, Robert, if you're watching, you're welcome
to join us whatever in the next couple of days
to give us your side of things, he would probably say,
I had what six games of those fifty six, not

(04:16):
even six, five and four plays in the other one
with an actual quarterback, and given time, we would have
gotten this thing together and moved in the right direction.
Probably didn't feel like he had enough time as the
head coach of the Jets this season. But Woody Johnson,
who said he made the decision all by his loansome,
said he spoke to Joe Douglas, but it was his

(04:38):
decision and his decision alone. Also said he spoke to
Aaron Rodgers, but not about Robert Sala the night before,
which is intriguing. He made this decision because he feels
like this roster, they've done enough to make this roster competitive,
and the two and three record just not in line
with that. So Judy, you know, I'm sure Robert Sala

(04:58):
is incredibly frustrated. I know that many people, including are
some players, I should say, including Makaye Beckton who tweeted
something earlier today, weren't the biggest Robert Sola fans. But
I thought he had enough support in that locker room.
Obviously not enough, perhaps not starting with the.

Speaker 6 (05:12):
Quarterback Listen, this dates back to last season. At the
end of last season, we all know how last season went,
Woody Johnson was not happy then. He was incredibly frustrated
by how last season went, and there were already concerns
in the building about Robert Sala's capabilities as a head coach.

(05:34):
They were not happy that they didn't adjust last year
after Rogers goes down after four snaps, they didn't adjust it.
And don't forget that was in a season in which
other teams lost their starting quarterbacks and then we're winning,
going to the playoffs with the backup quarterbacks. Other things
that happened. It was a continuation from last year. Things
didn't change.

Speaker 7 (05:53):
They were the most.

Speaker 6 (05:54):
Penalized team last season. They're the most penalized team right now.
That didn't get cleaned up. They were starting slow, just
as they started slow last year, they were starting slow
this year. They looked unprepared. Sometimes they look lethargic. And
let's be blunt, there was no Zach Wilson to blame
it all on. Last year, you could dump it all

(06:14):
on Zach Wilson, and they weren't happy that they didn't
have an adequate backup quarterback. There was no excuse this year.
I know people are saying, well, Robert sala is the
scapegoat for an ineffective offense. Maybe that's so, but they
are not getting rid of Aaron Rodgers. They're not benching
Aaron Rodgers. And there's only so much you can do
to shake up a team once you are in the season.

(06:35):
One of the things is benching the quarterback. That's off
the table with the Jets. The other thing is to
make a big coaching change, and Woody Johnson did it
now before more of the season got away. Don't forget
this is a very very tight window they have with
Aaron Rodgers. He thinks he has the best roster that
he's had in twenty five years of owning the team.

(06:55):
He is watching time take away that he has with
Aaron Rodgers, and he decided to make the move sooner
rather than let more.

Speaker 7 (07:03):
Weeks go by. I was a little surprised that came
this early.

Speaker 6 (07:06):
I am not surprised it happened in the middle of
the season, though, particularly the way the season had started.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
I've known Robert Sala for a number of years. I
think that we all have. He's a good man, He's
a good football coach. There are only, as Judy said,
so many different buttons you can push the quarterback and
the head coach of the two spots where you can
make a seat change. We saw it last year with
the Raiders. Josh McDaniels also a good football coach, but
they needed a different energy. They capture something with Antonio

(07:31):
Pierce and they make a run. Jeff Ulbrick, the interim
head coach, also a former NFL player, certainly an energetic guy.
We saw all that on Hard knocks last year. But Mike,
it still comes back to the offense here. Maybe there's
a trade for oh, I don't know, a perennial Pro
Bowl receiver that you could make. Maybe there's changes in
terms of the offensive operation. But Aaron Rodgers and Nathaniel

(07:52):
Hackett are like this. Those the two guys who need
to figure this thing out together. Whatever juice, whatever placebo
effect is around that team come Monday night against the Bills,
and I do think that you get some kind of
a jolt anytime you're in this situation. The Jets' hopes
of doing what Woody Johnson says he thinks they can
do and still accomplishing their goals, It all boils down

(08:13):
to can they get things going on that offensive side.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Of the ball.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
Jeff Olbrooks spoke to the media today and indicated that
a change potentially in play caller was going to be
a consideration that he would evaluate everything on the offensive
side of the ball. Perhaps Todd Downing, a former offensive coordinator,
would take over. But you're right, Tom, you're talking about
a guy who was brought in as an offensive coordinator
before they got Aaron Rodgers, with the hopes that that
would be the bait to get him here. So you

(08:38):
know how tight those two are, and they do have
to figure out a way to get back in sick.

Speaker 5 (08:43):
I mean the throat. I think we're going to see
one here.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Yeah, Like the throws to Garrett Wilson are just not
where they're supposed to be. And these guys were working
so hard on the chemistry in training camp and we
saw the sideline spats between the two of them.

Speaker 5 (08:57):
They've got to figure out a way whatever on this, whether.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
It's the play call, like the ball needs to be
where the ball is supposed to be, or the receiver
needs to be there. They need to figure that stuff out.
But Judy, on Monday night, I'm going to cover this
game between the Jets and the Bills. It is going
to be regular season, I'm sorry. Game number NFL game
number two hundred and fifty six played at MetLife Stadium,
according to NFL research shoutout Daniel farr h two hundred

(09:21):
and thirty one regular season games, twenty four preseason games.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
How many playoff games?

Speaker 8 (09:27):
Two?

Speaker 4 (09:28):
How many involving the Giants or Jets one the other
one was the Super Bowl. I just like the stadium here,
which is you know, I know the fans can play.
It's kind of gray. It's bla well, the play has
been that way as well. In one of these days,
I'm dreaming that one of these teams is going to
I don't care, I don't root, but I'd like to
go cover one. It's right there, Like, can we get a.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
Playoff game here involving the team?

Speaker 1 (09:49):
He won that game, by the way, like the player
the one playoff game involving the Giants.

Speaker 5 (09:52):
Giants.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
Giants shut out the Falcons on their way to the
Super Bowl. So yeah, it was a wild card game,
and or maybe there was a safe there, so it
was a defensive shut up and not a shoutout completely.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
But regardless, that was in twenty eleven.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
We haven't had one since then except for the Super
Bowl with the Seahawks and Broncos.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
So the Broncos with as many playoff wins to MetLife
Stadium as the Giants and Jets combined. More from Judy
on that game Seahawks, Sorry, I should have known that
Broncos won.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Of three years later, We're all good. First, Hearvin had
a big play in that game, all right.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
More from Judy NFL dot Com slash Fatista on the
situation in New York after the studying firing of Robert Sola.
That was not the only big news out of the
AFC East today. Judy Drake May, we talked about it
a lot because the results weren't changing for the Patriots.
Jacoby were sent to the bench and New England's going
to roll out the number three overall pick.

Speaker 6 (10:41):
This feels like maybe not a panic move, but maybe
a desperation move, because they certainly wanted to wait a
little bit longer to have more of their house in
order before they put Drake May in there, specifically the
offensive line for example. It is not in order right now.
But listen, I think apathy was starting to sit in.

(11:02):
They were slipping into irrelevance. They weren't scoring, and Jacoby
said didn't do anything particularly bad, he just couldn't lift
the team either. There were empty seats at Gillette Stadium.
I don't think you can ignore those kind of outside
factors too. So they're going to go with Drake May
and hope that he gives them a spark. Again, there's

(11:23):
only a few things you can do in the middle
of the season to spark a team.

Speaker 7 (11:26):
This is one of them. But this is a real
roll of.

Speaker 6 (11:29):
The dice to put a young quarterback in there with
out a good offensive line and without good receivers to
help him out.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
So Drake May makes four rookie quarterbacks starting as rookies.
Can we make it five from the twenty twenty four
NFL Draft class? Well, the answer is potentially, Mike, because,
as you and Rapaport reported earlier today, Derek Carr expected
to miss multiple games. They played two games in the
five day span, and while Jake Kyneer has been the
number two quarterback this season, he took over against the

(11:56):
Chiefs last night. Spencer Radler at least is in consideration here.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Yeah, let's start with the injury to Derek Carr, which
is a significant oblique strain according to me and Ian Rappaport.
So this is a situation where the Saints have two
games in the next nine days. They play on Sunday
against the Buccaneers, and then they play again on Thursday
against the Broncos.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
I think I forgot, I have so many things going
on today.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
I for I think it's against So now if he fights, yeah,
if he fights his way to get back and somehow
play Sunday, it's like you got to turn around again
real quickly. So my understanding is he is going to fight,
He's going to push. He's very competitive. He is going
to push as hard as he possibly can to play.
But this is this is one where if he can't
protect himself, if he can't do what he needs to do,
that they're going to take this one out of his hands.

(12:40):
So the expectation, at least as the Saints begin the
work week, is that he's not going to be available
for this game against the Buccaneers and likely the one
against the Broncos.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
And yeah, Spencer Ratler, who impressed in the preseason.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
I thought he was really strong and really composed, and
so did the Saints as well.

Speaker 5 (12:54):
A strong candidate to be the guy that they're going
to tap her.

Speaker 1 (12:56):
Just easing Spencer Ratler in against oh yeah, Todd Bowles
and Vance Joseph.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
So you know, a couple of guys who.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
Have coached a few games in their day, certainly going
to be one to keep an eye on here. That
Broncos defense with Vance Joseph a really rolling, big reason
for a guy who's going to join us shortly, but
not before I tell you Russell Wilson full participate in
practice this week for the first time and since he
popped that calf back before Week one. This according to
coach Mike Tomlin, who also said Wilson is going to

(13:25):
work with the twos because they don't want to disrupt
Justin Field's preparation. Certainly seems like another week of Mike
Tomlin saying it without saying it that as of now,
Justin Fields still atop the depth chart. Did I mention
pats Ertan, Yes, he and the Broncos one of the
hottest teams in the NFL three consecutive wins, another big

(13:46):
one this week against Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Patrick Tan will take us.

Speaker 9 (13:50):
All the way through this play, Addison the single back,
Bryant's emotion, Minshew looking throws.

Speaker 7 (14:03):
In, accept it by certain, Pat Certain.

Speaker 10 (14:06):
On the run.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
Nobody's gonna catch him.

Speaker 11 (14:09):
Certain going all the way throw Denver touchdown.

Speaker 5 (14:15):
This is just a mistake, Brig Dardner, Minshew.

Speaker 12 (14:18):
Don't do that. Don't do that.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Big time players make big time plays. Pat Certain the
second certainly fits in that category. Monster day for the
Broncos in the Slick nineteen seventy seven throwbacks as they
got and let me check this, there's a real stat
they're third win in a row. Pat certain the second.
Join us right now on the Insider's pat. We appreciate

(14:42):
you being here. I got all kinds of questions for
you here, but I want to start with this. When
you have an interception like that and becomes clear around
the fifty yard line to like there's no one really
pursuing you, you're going to the end zone, does your
mind start to race of like do I high step it,
do I hold the ball up? Do I I put it?

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Like?

Speaker 1 (15:00):
How do you go through those final fifty yards knowing
I can really do anything I want for the next
few seconds here?

Speaker 10 (15:05):
Yeah, I mean once I got through the clear and
I've seen the fifty yard line and beyond, I knew
what I was gonna do. I was gonna hold the
ball up in the air or I was on a
hot step, but I just decided to go to the
other route and just put the ball in the air
to let people know that's gonna be a touchdown. But
when I got in the end zone, man, I was

(15:25):
kind of scared for a little bit because there was
a flag on the field. But when it got overturned.
We celebrated at the end of the day. Man, So
it was a big moment for me and my teammates. Obviously,
we needed this play to change the game around, and
I just made it happen.

Speaker 13 (15:42):
That's all.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
I love that little rewind and run it back that
we just did with the control room.

Speaker 5 (15:47):
They're a nice little touch that we added there.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
Listen, Pat, I just got the odds sent to me
today for all the NFL awards and where we are
now through five.

Speaker 5 (15:57):
Weeks of the season. Defensive Player of the Year. Do
you know where you're I'm gonna tell you where you stand.
They've got you fifth right now. Now you're off the board.
But now you're on the board according to this.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Uh but the guys ahead of you see like it's
always seems like it's stacked in favor of the pass rushers.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
You got two interceptions, you got the big return.

Speaker 4 (16:15):
Here's your chance to make a stump speech that you
should be in consideration a little higher for defensive player
there because I think so yeah.

Speaker 10 (16:21):
I mean, I don't remember the last time a corner
one of the defensive played the year.

Speaker 13 (16:25):
I think since Stefan Gilmour which.

Speaker 10 (16:29):
It may be time for some change, but nah, this
should be mentioned in such high regard with such great
players across the league, it means a lot.

Speaker 13 (16:38):
It's something I will take for granted.

Speaker 10 (16:39):
It's a huge honor on my part, you know, just
trying to build on it, and the credit of that
goes to team success. With us winning these ball games
and with us making these plays, people are starting to
recognize the type of team we have and without team success,
those individual wars don't come. So I credited that to
a lot of things within the team, but to be

(17:00):
honored in that regard it means a lot.

Speaker 13 (17:03):
I'm looking forward to build off it.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
That's Stefan Gilmore Defensive Player of the Year. By the way,
that was a minute ago.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
He's still out there.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
He picked off Aaron Rodgers this week, so we's picked
off Rogers, Tom Brady, and Peyton Manning.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
I don't know in your era, well, like the equivalent
of that.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Would be, this is like ten years from now and
you're picking off Arch Manning or something like that, Like
how long do you envision yourself going along here? Can
you be one of those old heads in the league.

Speaker 10 (17:28):
Yeah, I definitely foresee myself having ten plus years. That's
a goal that I set out for myself, and I
think it's definitely attainable as long as I stay on
my regiment with recovery treatment and making sure.

Speaker 13 (17:43):
My body's up the par Yeah.

Speaker 10 (17:46):
But that's my common goal, is to make it ten
plus years in this league and still leave my mark
and still leave a legacy beyond my name. So, like
I said, arch Manning, these young cats coming up, Yeah,
I'm gonna.

Speaker 13 (17:59):
Be the old head by the time.

Speaker 12 (18:00):
People.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
I love that.

Speaker 12 (18:04):
Listen.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
I'm sure you were asked a ton over the first
couple of years in your career about how much you
lean on dad for advice and all that stuff, and
I'm sure you still do, but how much of it
now is Like, Hey, I've been around for a little bit,
Like I can lean on my own advice. I've been
able to pick up some things throughout the first couple
of years of my career.

Speaker 10 (18:21):
Yeah, I mean, you know, my dad has helped a
lot along the way, because I mean, he knows the game,
He's played a tremendous amount of years he had He's
had a great career in this league. So getting insight
from him is definitely helpful, and it's sort of it's
definitely helped my game to another level.

Speaker 13 (18:41):
But I've been blessed and granted with.

Speaker 10 (18:44):
The opportunity to learn from a lot of vets in
this league, like Kareem Jackson, Justin Simmons, those guys that
I've been able to learn from just in the meeting rooms.

Speaker 13 (18:55):
How they prepare their bodies, how they are in the
film room. I learned a lot from those guys.

Speaker 10 (18:59):
Then obviously there's guys across the league that I'll reach
out to to hone in on my game as well. So,
like I said, it's a lot of things you can
learn from being in this league with experience and great
people around him.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
So obviously, defensively, you guys have been lights out this season.
Vance Joseph's done an unbelievable job getting this thing headed
the right direction. Tell me about what you see when
you're on the sideline you're watching bow Knicks. You know,
he's not that young by like Brookie quarterback standards, but
he's still a pretty young dude in this league. He's
making it plays happen with his legs, He's making some
things happen with his arms. Every now and then he's, oh,

(19:35):
I don't know, having a little discussion on the sideline
with your head coach. Give me the totality of bow Knicks,
the quarterback, the team leader at the Denver Broncos right now.

Speaker 10 (19:45):
Yeah, Bo, He's he's like a he's very confident in
his game.

Speaker 13 (19:51):
I've mentioned it before.

Speaker 10 (19:52):
From day one, he just looks very composed and poised
back there. My Mobviously he got this offense ig Nighting,
and he got the tubes, he got all the intangibles.
He's as smart, he's very savvy. He's the leader out there.
And I know a lot of people is talking about
the you know, the conversation between him and Sean, but
that's just him.

Speaker 13 (20:13):
He's he won to wins game.

Speaker 10 (20:15):
And when you have two people like that that's very
competitive in that space that want to win and do
what it takes to win, stuff like that's going to happen.
But it's all love at the end of the day.
And Bo has been great so far. He's definitely been
the unsung hero of this team for sure, because I
mean he's just so tough and it seems like he's

(20:36):
a veteran back there for sure.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
You know, he's not. It's not disrespectful. Right to me,
it's more competitive.

Speaker 4 (20:44):
But when you see that from your quarter especially such
a young quarterback, when you when other guys are seeing that,
you know, willing to defend himself stand on this square,
so to speak, does that get a little bit of
respect drummed up amongst some of the other veterans.

Speaker 13 (20:59):
It does. I believe you just speak what's on your mind.

Speaker 10 (21:02):
At the end of the day, we're just trying to
get on the same page and what a conversation sparked
like that.

Speaker 13 (21:10):
As long as both ends of the party get on
the same page, that's what it takes.

Speaker 10 (21:15):
It may not look pretty at the end of the day,
but it's worth it in the long run. So I
think obviously those guys have the same mindset towards being
on the field and just scoring points offensively, And like
I said before, it's only going to ignite more and
more confidence within the team knowing that we got players
like that that's ready to go to war.

Speaker 13 (21:36):
For each other.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
You're allso doing cool stuff off the field. Padn't know
you're doing something with high schools. Tell me, tell me
about that program.

Speaker 10 (21:43):
Yeah, So I'm having an event this Friday, the second
annual inspired the Dream Gala. It's towards my foundation and
my mission is to help those students and underprivileged communities,
helped them obtain the right resources necessary for them to

(22:03):
exceed in the next level.

Speaker 13 (22:05):
And I've had the honor.

Speaker 10 (22:08):
And blessing to really really be able to give back
in a meaningful way towards two high schools out here
in the Denver urban City community areas, George Washington High
School and.

Speaker 13 (22:19):
Manual High School.

Speaker 10 (22:20):
They was able to build a foundation room within my foundation,
and I was able to build these steam rooms just
from the building blocks. It all started with a dream
and now seeing this happen, I'm honestly blessed to be
able to be a big part.

Speaker 13 (22:37):

Speaker 2 (22:38):
Awesome, definitely inspirational stuff.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
You know what else will be inspiring beating those Chargers
when they come into Denver to face the hottest Broncos
team we've had the number of years, certainly since you've
been there.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
If I'm not mistaken too.

Speaker 1 (22:49):
You were on Alabama when they got the better of
Jim Harbor and mas Citrus Poles. Let's see if we
can make a repeat of that.

Speaker 13 (22:55):
Oh yeah, let's make it happen.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Pat, thanks a ton for here man, Please come back again.
We really appreciate it.

Speaker 13 (23:03):
Oh yeah, appreciate youau. Thank you all for having me.

Speaker 5 (23:05):
Thank you bell all right?

Speaker 1 (23:06):
Coming up after this, the breaking news of the day,
Robert sala is out as the New York Jets head coach.
So where do the Jets go from here? Not just
in twenty twenty four, but for the future as well.
We'll continue to break it down right here on the Insiders.

(23:29):
The breaking news roughly nine hours ago. Robert sla out
as the New York Jets head coach, leaves behind a
twenty and thirty six record, including two and three this
season when he finally had the quarterback Aaron Rodgers that
he had been waiting for a lot of layers, a
lot of nuance to any major decision like this, none

(23:51):
of which you're going to get by listening to New
York Sports Radio.

Speaker 14 (23:55):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Yeah, well deserved moved right.

Speaker 8 (23:59):
How could you not score our first in goal right
one yard line at home and not score a touchdown?
How can you be third and two against Minnesota and
run twice and not even get a yard?

Speaker 5 (24:13):
But is that Roberts full?

Speaker 14 (24:15):
Yes, he was clearly never going to get anything done
with this organization, and he's his record is one of
the worst in NFL history.

Speaker 13 (24:22):
Correct.

Speaker 14 (24:24):
I don't think that we're out of the mud here
just yet. I mean, maybe now we'll be prepared when
the game starts, because it usually takes around two or
three quarters for the team to wake up. So I'm
hoping Olbrick can provide that spark as the interim usually does.
I give Wardy a lot of credit. This is probably
the best thing he's done in years, because you couldn't

(24:44):
continue to go. This was just like it's like rinting repeats.

Speaker 5 (24:48):
Why did he bring him back to start the year?

Speaker 15 (24:50):
Then because of Rogers and because okay, okay, but then
that's a problem.

Speaker 8 (24:57):
Yeah, but but listen, this is the way they set
the organ up, all right.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Welcome back to the Insiders, Tom Pellicero, now joined by
Mark Ross and Brian Baldinger, to perhaps break this down
in a slightly different way than you were getting over
the airwaves on WFAN. Mark, you worked in NFL front
offices for a long time. You've seen situations like this playout.
When you heard the news today, Robert saw out five

(25:22):
games into.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
This twenty twenty four season. What's going through your mind?

Speaker 12 (25:26):
Definitely a shock and surprise.

Speaker 16 (25:28):
And look, I wasn't surprised that it had got it,
but it was just at this certain point at this time,
and I thought that the Jets continued to lose, it
could happen, but not right now because they were pentitively
still in the thick of things. And when Woody Johnson
came out and said he's been doing this for twenty
five years, well, to me, they haven't been to the

(25:49):
playoffs in fifteen years and have had one winning season.
So this wasn't about Robert sala when I look at this,
this is just about the Jets organizational failure of running
through head coaches every two years.

Speaker 12 (26:00):
I think we're going on the fifth.

Speaker 16 (26:02):
Now in eleven years, and going through gms and just
the constant change and chaos that is there. And I
think Robert Salah was really made the scapegoat and really
set up to fail once you brought Aaron Rodgers in there.
He was set up to fail because Aaron is essentially
running the organization. And I'm just still not sure, Baldy,
why everyone is still giving Aaron.

Speaker 12 (26:23):
Rodgers this patch.

Speaker 16 (26:24):
We've seen him not play well for the last couple
of years, and this year he's not played well at all.
Those three interceptions that he threw the other day were
all on him. You can't blame anybody else for that.
I scouted for twenty plus years. I never saw an
old player get better. I just saw them get worse.
And I'm not sure that the hope and nostalgia of
this Aaron Rodgers saving anything is going to happen, even

(26:44):
what we've seen up to this point.

Speaker 17 (26:47):
Well maybe, Mark, Maybe if Aaron hits Garrett Wilson in
the last ninety seconds in London last week when he's
wide open, beaten Stefan Gilmour and they win that game,
maybe none of this happens. Maybe if they can kick
a few with Greg Zerline at the end of the
game against Denver, maybe they've won four in a row
and none of this happens. But look, it was the
first time Wood he's ever fired a coach. He's had

(27:08):
a lot of bad coaches, a lot of losing coaches
there in New York. He's ever fired him in the
middle of the season. I think they did this this year, Mark,
because the expectations are so high and something had to
change right now, the miscommunication between Aaron and some receivers,
the fact that Brece Hall can't get out and get
started at all. Right now, he's had sixty five runs.

(27:28):
Thirty one of those sixty five are gone for two
yards or less. They're not brought blocking well or properly upfront.
Maybe that's something that can get fixed during the week.
With Jeff Ulbrick, I would have looked. I would think
that the run game has to get better. To your point,
Aaron Rodgers is not going to get any younger. You
can't throw it one hundred and nine times or drop
back one hundred and nine times like he has the

(27:50):
last two games, and think that he's going to survive
this season the way he's getting hit right now.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
Robert Solo is one of the coveted head coaching candidates
back in twenty twenty one. He and Arthur Smith were
the two that year, both hired early in the cycle
seven total hires just three years ago. There are two
of those coaches left, Dan Campbell and Nick Sirianni.

Speaker 18 (28:16):
Hey how about those, Hey, great job man, Great jobs
part Friday, guys. You got those bye week now, so
we'll be back on Monday. Monday, we'll start a normal
week and a lot of time off here. Just make
sure you handle it. We're smart with it. Take care
of yourselves. If you're heard, we'll come back and show
up with something. Go ahead and take care of it.
Get it knocked down. Take Kareem for instance, he's gonna
spend the whole week in a nice tuf.

Speaker 10 (28:37):
All right, y'all have full week, Chiefs, how about that?

Speaker 2 (28:43):
Bye?

Speaker 5 (28:45):
We needn't get that chief thing at the end there.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
All right, Time now for a game Flow of the
Week presented by Progressive Baldy is back with me, Mike
Caarra Follo here to talk about this game last night
and the moment that led to the Chiefs beating the Saints,
the moment that changed the flow.

Speaker 17 (29:01):
You know, in the literary world, Mike, that word is
called the danu ma. That's when the conclusion is the deal.
And I thought it got revealed last I remember Colin
Saunders intercepts the Pascienzo runs it back, you know, and
then six plays later, you know, you get the touchdown
from car to Foster Brow and they cut the lead

(29:21):
to sixteen thirteen. And then two plays later, Patch Mahomes
hit Juju Smith Schuster for the fifty yarder and then
three plays later Xavier A. Worthy you know, write it
in off to that Wildcat Reid option from Travis Kelcey,
and I thought the play by Juju, just when the
Saints had kind of cut the lead in the fourth quarter.

(29:41):
I thought that was the daya mar That was the
turning point right there of that game last night.

Speaker 12 (29:46):
Mike.

Speaker 4 (29:47):
You know, I never understood the difference between dani Neumont
and climax. I think the dan neu Mont comes after
the climax, Like the climax is when you know, good
versus evil, and then that's just kind of how it
flows down.

Speaker 5 (29:59):
I don't know. Sometimes people use that.

Speaker 17 (30:02):
No, they're not really interchangeable, Mike. The climax is that
point where, okay, there's a conflict that gets revealed, but
the datum is when you actually know how the ending
is going to be. It's revealed at that point anyways, Okay,
probably right. Brian Balding with the dinoma. We're very French

(30:23):
around here, brother, Brian Baldinger, what can he do? English scholar,
literary scholar. Thank you, buddy, I appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (30:31):
We always appreciate your breakdowns football or otherwise.

Speaker 5 (30:35):
Has Jayden Daniels already locked up?

Speaker 3 (30:37):
Right?

Speaker 5 (30:37):
Well, of course he hasn't. Right, there's plenty of season left.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
But our Jeffrey Jadea is going to join us after
here to talk about his chances of landing that award.

Speaker 5 (30:45):
Right now, they're pretty good. Spoiler who did it? Anyway?

Speaker 6 (30:48):
Toda, The Minnesota Vikings have something to celebrate. Five and
oh they came back from London with another victory, one
of only two teams at that record. Kansas City Chiefs
joined them last night? Was that last night?

Speaker 12 (31:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (31:05):
Undefeated? Five and oh it is time for Tuesday Takeaways,
presented by Chipotley and we welcome in our Jeffrey Chid
and welcome back Mark Ross. Jeffrey, I want to talk
about your first Reads column. You did a look at
seven NFL truths. Where they stand right now. Let's start
with Brian Flores as the best assistant coach in the

(31:28):
game right now.

Speaker 12 (31:29):
Well, that's the biggest truth for me, Judy.

Speaker 15 (31:31):
Everybody talks about Sam Darnold and he's a great story.

Speaker 12 (31:34):
Brian Flores has done with this defense. He showed up
a couple of years. They're rake twenty eighth in the league.

Speaker 15 (31:39):
Right now, they're fourth in the league in points allowed,
second and takeaways, second in sacks, And really the bigger
stat here, the bigger numbers involve who they played. They
they strout, They've beaten Rock Party, They've beaten Jordan Love,
They've beaten Aaron Roders, no matter how bad he's playing,
still Aaron Rodgers. And so that tell for this defense
is that get I know that they've got some journeymen

(31:59):
in the second but Mark, what Brian flores has done
has been epic so far.

Speaker 16 (32:05):
Yeah, you're right, that truth is one hundred percent true.
And we were in training camp together there at the
Vikings camp, sweating, but all the talk was about the
rookie JJ McCarthy, if Sam Donald, we had justin Jefferson
interviewing him. Kevin O'Connell, we forgot about him. But do
we even talk about the defense and all that there
and talk about Brian Florens. It was all about the
offense and the rookie quarterback in the situation there. But yes,

(32:27):
he has been outstanding and he's pieced those veterans together
and found different ways to beat those guys that made adjustments.
So that's been the most the most important part of that,
and I would expect this to continue. Even last week
when Sam Donald didn't have his best game and you
could see a little bit of the cracks and there
with Sam Donald, but Brian Flores and Ed d held
it together.

Speaker 6 (32:47):
Judy, I think we're probably going to be talking about
Brian Flores when the next hiring cycle begins in the NFL.
All right, let's turn to is the Offensive Rookie of
the Year award already settled?

Speaker 15 (32:59):
Oh yeah, it's over. You thought it was gonna be
Caleb Wayas because of the hype. You thought Malie Nighbors
had a chance because he played in New York. But
Jaydeon Daniels is running away with this thing. I don't
know how he loses this. This is an award about moments,
and he's had more moments the lasting entire season so far.
You're talking about a guy who's on pace for almost
four thousand passing yards almost a thousand yards rushing. And

(33:20):
when you're doing things like this, people remember that kind
of stuff. Nobody was talking about the Washington Command as
being anything. They're four and one and marked a legit
threat to win the NFC East because of this guy.

Speaker 16 (33:31):
Whoa WHOA slow down, Jeff running away with it now
like I've been. He's playing at an MVP level, no doubt,
and I love what he is doing. Jayson Daniels is
going to be spectacular. I thought it was razor thin
between him and Caleb coming into the draft. But have
you seen Caleb these last few weeks getting better and
better and better and better. Don't count him out just yet, Jeff,

(33:53):
because he's coming on. They're getting better, they're coming together.
Washington is coming up with some tough games down the stretch,
might start figuring out Jayden Daniels a little bit, might
slow down. So I think this is going to get
tight towards the end. He's not running away with it.

Speaker 12 (34:07):
He got up.

Speaker 16 (34:07):
They're fast, but here comes Caleb Williams.

Speaker 12 (34:10):
Down to the wire.

Speaker 16 (34:11):
The last few games are going to decide that offensive
Rookie of the Year award and the way they're playing,
the way James's playing MVP if he keeps that up,
so both of them might be an MVP consideration by
the n judy.

Speaker 6 (34:22):
All right, Jeffrey, you see a few cracks in the
stranglehold that the forty nine ers have on the NFC.

Speaker 12 (34:28):
Yeah, more than a few cracks.

Speaker 15 (34:30):
You're talking about a team that hasn't won a game
against an NFC West opponent, hasn't won a game against
an NFC opponent just yet. And when you think about
what this team has been going through over the last
six or seven months. But the contract disputes Ricky Piarso
get shot. That's a tragic thing. Special teams player has
been horrible until this past week. And then all these injuries,
including Christian McCaffrey and Fred Wi Warren, George Kittle. I mean,

(34:53):
it's so many big names now have gone down or
been banged up. I display this team right now is
in a tough place. When you're losing the Arizona when
you've got to lead, You've lost two of the last
three games that way, Mark, That's not a good sign
for a team that can compete with Minnesota, Green Bay
or Detroit.

Speaker 12 (35:10):
Yeah, not at all.

Speaker 16 (35:10):
It's the curse of the losing in the Super Bowl
once again strikes NFC team where they fall apart. We
saw it with the Eagles last years. Looked like the
best team, they fell apart. Now see the forty nine
ers and you mentioned all of those problems. Just one
of those things, it could knock you off the perch
a little bit. But all of those things you've combined,
and just even just Christian McCaffrey and how important he

(35:31):
is that at offense. So yes, they are not as formidable.
Are they legit Super Bowl contenders? Maybe not? But do
they have time to get it together?

Speaker 12 (35:40):
Yes?

Speaker 16 (35:40):
And especially when you look at their division with Seattle,
we saw they just lost to the Giants and the
Cardinals just beat the forty nine ers. But are they
legit contenders? And then the Rams seen to be out
of it with all their injuries as well. So are
they top tier as we thought they would be?

Speaker 10 (35:55):
No?

Speaker 16 (35:56):
Do they still have a chance to win their division
and make a run in the playoffs?

Speaker 12 (36:00):
I think so.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
Don't count them out just yet.

Speaker 6 (36:02):
All right, we're going to talk more about the forty
nine ers in a few moments, but everybody, you should
be reading Chidia's column every week NFL dot.

Speaker 7 (36:09):
Com slash First Read.

Speaker 6 (36:11):
And when we come back on the Insiders, we're going
to do a TNF preview. It's a big NFC West clash. Wow,
we didn't know it was going to be this big
this early. The Seahawks versus those forty nine.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Ers Thursday Night Football on Prime heads out West for
the NFC West Showdown.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
It's Brock Party in San Francisco.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
Forty nine Ers versus Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks
this Thursday at eight fifteen pm Eastern Time only on
Prime Video. Let's bring in Sam swartzteam Prime Video and
Thursday Night Football's analytics expert to use next gen stats
to preview this division rivalry matchup. Sam brock Purty, regardless
of the record, has played at a high level throughout

(36:55):
these first five games of the season. What stands out
to you from what we've seen from him so far.

Speaker 11 (37:01):
Yeah, we've seen Brock pretty change his game almost completely.
I live in the Bay Area, so I got a
lot of Rock Party news and coverage and everything. Last
year is about getting into the guys in space, letting
them run out for the catch. That's not necessarily the
case this year. What he's done most specifically is the
ability to get first downs by scrambling. We've seen all
the stats about his arms, but his ability to keep

(37:21):
the chains moving when Kyle Shanahan has not called the
perfect play is the key difference. He ranked second only
to Jayden Daniels in first downs converted using scrambles. It's
one of the key elements of this offense that they've
needed where they had those down years with Jimmy Garoppolo
or when they had backup quarterbacks come in. Brock Purty
adds an element to this offense to be able to

(37:43):
utilize his legs that keeps defenses guessing he just needs
to convert in the red zone.

Speaker 15 (37:47):
Now.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
The Seahawks offense also looks a lot different than what
it did in recent years. Ryan Grubb, who of course
led that high powered Washington offense last year, was at
Alabama for like ten seconds and then it came up
back to Seattle to join the sea Hawks. What stands
out to you but what you're seeing from that scheme
in the NFL.

Speaker 11 (38:05):
Yeah, we hear a lot about collegiate style offense for
the Washington Commanders, but probably the most collegiate style offense
has taken place in Washington State with the Seattle Seahawks.
He wants to spread everyone out, that's O. C. Ryan Grubb,
to give easier looks to Gino Smith and when they
again then get into empty which they run the second
most of the NFL so that he can see how
spread out the defense is, where's the open space, and

(38:28):
then find his open target. It's the hardest job in
the country is probably quarterback in the NFL. I apologize
to all the underwater welders out there, but making an
easier job for your quarterback is what Ryan Grub's doing
for Gino.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
All right, Well, he's got to go up against the
forty nine ers defense this week. It's got a lot
of stars, including linebacker Bred Warner. Now what has been
banged out the past couple of weeks. He's on the
injury report with an ankle limited listed is limited though
in the first price week, which usually means even on
a short week, you probably get a good chance to go.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
Assuming these out there, What is.

Speaker 1 (38:59):
Nick stats say, How does it quantify the impact of
Fred Warner on the game.

Speaker 11 (39:05):
There's really hard to quantify linebackers using analytics. We want
to measure results, but one of the key things we
can measure with Fred Warner is how much of an
impact he has in the middle of the field. That's
where all these pro style offenses want to go, is
target those middle field with crossing routes, but since Fred
Warner's entered the league, the forty nine Ers are the
best at defending that area. And it's because he has

(39:27):
a special ability that you want to hear every linebacker have,
which is range. He can cover the middle of the
field in the pass game, but also sideline the sideline
in the run game. No matter where the ball is going.
He has a nose for the ball and the athleticism
to cover it down. They need him to be able
to stop this passing attack and the rushing attack from
the Seahawks this week.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
You can watch Sam every Tuesday here on The Insiders,
but also every Thursday night on Thursday and Football's Prime
Vision with Next Gen Stats Alternate stream. I read it
so I don't mess up any parts of that name.
Tomorrow Night's coverage forty nine Ers Seahawks on Prime Video
at NFL Plus begins at seven pm Eastern, with TNF
Tonight coming up after this. Caleb Williams coming off the

Rookie of the Week. I think I hit the sugar
too hard. There's zero sugar. Just to be very clear.
Here some logical candidates right there. Of course, the three quarterbacks,

(40:54):
all winners eight and one combined over the past three weeks. Here,
but big day for Brock Bauers, Brian Thomas Junior and yes,
Tyrone Tracy Junior also making most.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
Of his opportunity.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
You can vote for that award NFL dot Com Slash Rookies.
Caleb Williams and company. Well they've gone across the pond.
Don't say across the pond. No, No, I read everything
that's on the prompter. I'm sorry. They're in London. They
faced the Jaguars on Sunday. Caleb Williams said, down with
our Kyle Brandt to discuss that game.

Speaker 11 (41:23):
I have some terms and some phrases that the Bears
fans have used to describe you and what you mean
to the future of the franchise.

Speaker 5 (41:30):
This is my favorite one.

Speaker 19 (41:31):
You're ready, Messiah, Messiah, I think when I when I
hear that, I think of Doune. You know, even that
movie I couldn't have done all by himself. So it
goes to having the team, and you know, the guys
behind you and believe in you, and believing in offense,
believe in each other, and having that bond to be
able to go out there and win.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
So it's kind of funny, all right.

Speaker 1 (41:53):
Week two in London here, hopefully both head coaches come
back in one piece this time. Judy your early preview
Bears Jaguars of the NFL Network.

Speaker 6 (42:02):
I am looking forward to actually seeing more of Caleb
because I was at that game in Chicago last weekend
and he looked terrific. Took a big leap, so I'm
looking to see where he goes from there.

Speaker 4 (42:12):
Mike, I do wonder you know the Jaguars go there
every year, like do you have that experience of not
only being there, but like being there for back to
back weeks, Like is that an over? Like a lot
more of a home field advantage for them, even though
they're not really the home game here. I'd be curious
to see how the Bears handle this one. Matt eberfluts,
get him in line.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
A rare trip across the pond again for the Bears
right here. They got to Jaguars on Sunday, Warmack. Tomorrow
night gonna be another loaded show, news packed as always for.

Speaker 2 (42:40):
Mike and Judy. I am Tom see you
