Speaker 1 (00:00):
It was a draft weekend to remember, unless you're shudor Sanders,
which case you probably have parts you'd rather forget. But
we will tell you why Cleveland might have been the
best possible outcome for Schadur and what the chances are
that he'll see the field in twenty twenty five. Sanders
college teammate Travis Hunter at a much shorter weight, but

(00:20):
why is he now a Jaguar and not a Brown.
We will take a look back tonight at all of
the draft's biggest stories and the ramifications as NFL teams
move forward into the offseason. The Cowboys didn't make any
big headlines, but they did get a very, very big man.
James Later will be here to explain why Tyler Bookeir

(00:42):
is exactly what Dallas needed and what moves could still
be coming at the Star. Welcome inside with the Insider's Longside.
Ian Rappaport I am Tom Peliasero.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
We are now just one hundred and twenty nine short
days away the twenty five NFL kickoff game, training camp
less than three months away, Rooky mini camps coming up
over the next.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Couple of weeks. There is so much football action to come.
But first let's take a look back and some of
the big things that happened, because there were a lot
over three glorious days in Green Bay, the site of
what was a fantastic draft all around. It all started
out with the fireworks at number two, when the Jaguars,

(01:29):
in a deal that included seven draft picks, gave up
a second rounder this year and a first rounder next
year to go in get Travis Hunter, while the Browns
moved three spots back Ian This was the deal that
brought one of the most dynamic players in this draft
to Jacksonville. It also gave Cleveland what's commonly referred to
as the quarterback premium. They got a lot to move

(01:50):
back those three spots ultimately end up with Mason Graham.
As you've dug more into it, what exactly happened here
and what do you make a Cleveland's plan as we
move forward.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
First of all, there's a there's a principle when you're
talking about drafts that really you should follow almost always,
like ninety nine percent of the time, and that's if
someone is trading up in the top five or if
someone is trading up in the top ten, it is
always for a quarterback. This is one of the rare,
rare times that it was not for a quarterback. This
is for just a unique player, the top receiver, the

(02:23):
top corner who wants to play both ways, who is
so who is considered to be one of two elite
players in this draft too. I know anybody would have
wanted to draft. And if you're the Jacksuville Jaguars, if
you're James Gladstone, you came from the Rams and they
have traded a lot for excellent players. This is right
out of Less Seeds playbook. And if you're the Jaguars,
this makes a lot of sense. Wis interesting to me here.

(02:45):
This deal, which was actually quietly worked on between the
two gms for about two weeks, only came to light
probably a day before the draft, which is when you
and I started talking about it on TV. If you're
the Cleveland Browns, you do not have a quarterback of
the future. You might, but you don't know, no know
that you do. Trading Travis Hunter was worth it to
get the first round of that might help you get

(03:06):
the quarterback next year. That is why the Browns did it.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Browns to take a couple stabs at the quarterback position.
More on that in just a little bit. But this
was not the only twenty twenty six first round pick
that changed hands. The Falcons that have taken Jalen Walker
at number fifteen trade back into the first round to
get the number number twenty six, giving up their twenty
twenty six first rounder in the process to get James

(03:32):
Pierce Junior out of Tennessee, a player. Ian that there
were varied opinions on both on and off the field
as we went through the pre draft process here. But
for our Falcons, Stevens, we've talked so much about they
really need an egge rusher. They end up getting two. Well,
there were.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
Varying opinions, not on James Pierce the player, right, James
Pierce the player was that was obvious. He was got
a lot of juice off the edge. He's a great athlete,
he has been productive. This is not about that. This
was about the off the field issues, some character stuff.
The Falcons did a ton of homework on James Pearce,
even meeting very quietly with him and his mom the
day before the draft just to learn a little bit more.

(04:11):
But you're right, the Falcons have I think for like
the last three years tried to get some sort of
player off the edge, whether it was trying to get
into Hassan Redick or it was Matthew Judon. Now they
go into the first round and they get two, and
it was so important to them. They view James Pierce
so highly that they said, you know what it is okay,
It is okay to give a first round. Now, a

(04:31):
third rounder is coming back, so that decrease to the value,
but a first rounder next year, just to get him
right now.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
If you're the Los.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Angeles Rams, similar to what we said about the Browns,
Matthew Stafford is a great quarterback. He is also in
his mid thirties. The Rams are gonna need one. There's
gonna be some good quarterbacks coming out next year. The
Rams are probably gonna be good. So if they're going
to get into league quarterback, they're probably gonna have to
trade up. They now have an extra first round to
do it. Really brilliant move for the Rams, something they

(04:58):
came into this draft hoping to do.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
The other team that traded back into the first round
was the Giants, who stood pad after much speculation. At
number three, took Abduel Carter, the pass rusher from Penn State.
But they move up and get their quarterback. It's not
Shador Sanders, it's Jackson Dart at number twenty five. Overall,
they give up two third round picks to make this move.
Ian minerstanding was part of it with Jackson Dart versus

(05:24):
let's say a Chador was the layers to his game,
the athletic ability that he brings to the table. You
can run RPOs, you can run red option, you can
do a lot of the things that Brian Dable, whether
it was with Josh Allen in Buffalo or Daniel Jones
that first year in New York. That's what's helped make
them successful. This was a pick that, even though they
say Russell Wilson is the starter right now, probably says

(05:45):
a lot about their idea of the type of football
team they want to build.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
That's a good call and I would echo that and say,
Jackson Dart the player probably gives them more options, more
different directions, more dynamic ways they could run this offense.
And yeah, the hope is that he is the quarterback
of the future. What we talked about pre draft, Tom
was for the Giants as they were debating to take
a quarterback at three, thought it was maybe Shador Sanders,

(06:10):
and I do believe had Dart not been there for
the Giants, trading up for Shador Sanders was very much possibilities,
something they were absolutely thinking about. But what they pulled
off was to me, something that was pretty risky.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Right.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
It was taking an elite player in Abdul Carter at
three and then saying we are going to try to
trade it for a quarterback, doing as much work as
they can, trying to have an understanding the market, but
never really sure, like is someone else going to trade
up for him? Like we all thought that the Saints
were into Tyler Shuck. Maybe they were into Jackson Dart
and they had fooled us. So the Giants were able

(06:44):
to pull off something that I would say they're going
to benefit from, but was incredibly risky to do, and
they value wise, value wise, or much better off having
done it the way they did it.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
And the Saints were into Tyler Shuck enough that when
the number five forty pick rolled around, you're the top
of the second round. That's exactly who ended up in
New Orleans. Tyler Shuck seven years in college football, He's
got three or four degrees, but as he told me
at the Senior Bowl, intends for right now to use
his degree in football. This is a guy in that
every turn in the pre draft process really impressed teams.

(07:19):
He took advantage of the fact that he's been on
rosters in college for so long, He's seen every offense,
he's known all types of coaches. Here, his meetings went
really well. He might be the most pro ready to
start right now, which, depending where things go from here
for Derek Carr, could mean we're looking at Tyler Shuck
week one starter for the Saints. Yeah, he may have to.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
And Derek Carr still has not yet made a decision.
Has been as he told us from a church in
Las Vegas, he has been dealing with his shoulder injury.
He has the MRI to prove it, and he's been
working closely with the Saints to try to figure out
what to do. But right now, we just don't know
whether or not Derek Carr is going to be ready,
and so in Tyler Shuck what the Saints have as
someone they believe to be the most pro ready. This

(08:01):
was such an interesting one, Tom, because there's a whole
big group of quarterbacks, so we kind of thought at
the beginning of this process, we're going to go anywhere
from like fourth to seventh round. I considered Tyler Schuck
to be in that mix, right you figure Jackson darb
was a little higher, maybe Milroll a little higher. I
personally thought Shuck would be in the mix. And then
you start to learn that teams really kind of secretly

(08:23):
liked him. Maybe he was a lot higher than we realized.
The Saints were patient, they were disciplined. Again, they took
some risks to not trading up. They sat there and waited,
and maybe their quarterback of the future, but probably their
quarterback of the present was the guy they took.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
They were over a dozen quarterbacks drafted this year, including
some in the late rounds. One of them went to
a team that repeatedly passed on those top quarterbacks in Pittsburgh.
It's Will Howard, the national champ from Ohio State Ian,
going at number one to eighty five in this draft
of Pittsburgh, a guy that a lot of scouts liked.
The overall makeup, He's been a winner everywhere he's been.

(09:01):
Coaches I talked with raised there's some mechanical issues for
such a big guy. Doesn't generate a lot of velocity.
Sometimes his front leg can get locked. There's things they
want to work with, but at a time that right now,
the depth chart in Pittsburgh has Mason Rudolph at the top.
Will Howard could factor in the mix, depending what happens
with you know that other quarterback who's still mulling his future?

(09:22):
Was there?

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Is there someone else? Is there someone else who maybe
we've been discussing with the Steelers for the last like
two months. Maybe I did enjoy by the way that
midway through the draft. Whichever night it was, I guess
it was probably the second night when our Rooney talked
to Steelers Nasha Radio and talked about Aaron Rodgers, because
God forbid anything go by, any event of anything without
us talking about Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Yes, we did.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Learn a little bit about what the Steelers think and
believe in this draft. We kind of went into this
draft thinking, hey, they may take Shador at twenty one,
which was a possibility. I know they were split in
the room the day before the draft ended up not
going with him, But we didn't know whether they need
he needed a quarterback, whether they kind of just would
like a quarterback. What we learned by the selection of

(10:05):
Will Howard is they believe they're getting Aaron Rodgers, and
they felt like they didn't need one.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
They just took a.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Developmental quarterback to develop and see what happens. Learned a
lot from the Steelers kind of watching all those quarterbacks
go by.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
And if Aaron Rodgers does not end up Pittsburgh end
up in Pittsburgh, which right now there's been no pressure.
They are remaining patient in that situation, maybe the Steelers
turn their attention to Kirk Cousins, who as of right
now remains on the Atlanta Falcons roster. We had two
hundred one, two hundred. That's really the only spot that
he potentially could land right now. There were so many picks,

(10:41):
two hundred and fifty plus over three days in Green Bay.
None probably talked about more than what happened at number
one forty four. When we got this.

Speaker 4 (10:51):
With the one hundred and forty fourth pick in the
twenty twenty five NFL Draft, the Cleveland Brown select should
Are Sanders quarterback Colorado.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
It was actually the second call Shador Sanders had gotten
during draft weekend. The first one he thought was Saints
GM Mickey Lewis turned out to be a buddy of
the son of Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Olbrick. Jax Olbrick
has since apologized for a prank phone call, saying that
he had gotten the number off his dad's open iPad.
A great reminder to all of us who have kids

(11:27):
and iPads to be a little bit more cautious about
people's personal data. Setting aside that which is a ridiculous situation,
and we don't even have enough time on the show
dig into all the layers of it here for Shador
sanders Ian, we talked about it going into the week.
This was one of the biggest mysteries because there were
only a couple of teams in Round one. You mentioned him,

(11:47):
it's the Giants, It's the Steelers. After that, you did
not know where he was going to go. We could
not have forecast at that time was we would be
talking about Day three of the draft before one of
the highest profile players in this draft learn that he's
headed to Cleveland. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
I mean, it was an unprecedented slide, a free fall
for Shudre sanders one that, just to be completely honest,
was pretty painful to watch and cover and talk about because,
like we all were discussing it, but you knew that
he was just dying inside. And he put a really
good face on it. I can't imagine anyone handling it
any better. But it had to be brutal for shud

(12:26):
Dore Sanders. And you know what it feels like talking
to the people who didn't take him looking at the
landscape of this thing, Tom, what it seemed like is
once he didn't go to the Giants at three, and
once the Steelers decided, you know what, he's not going
to be our starter, We're not gonna just delve into
We're just gonna let him go by. Nobody else wants
a backup who's going to take the headlines. And if
you don't take a quarterback in the first round, with

(12:48):
a couple exceptions in the saintsho one this year, it's
basically first round or like fourth and fifth round, because
nobody wants a quarterback who's big name. And I think
this hurt Quinnyewers too, like nobody wants to be named
quarterback as a backup, who reporters are gonna talk to,
who's gonna generate a lot of headlines. Shador Sanders really
was hurt by his fame as much as other things

(13:09):
the meetings that were rough, I mean the the on
field product getting sacked too much. It was some other
stuff there, but it just the Tim Tebow effect was
alive and well here, and it really really hurt Shadoor
Sanders in this draft.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Chaudor did eventually get that call, and you'd imagine after
a few days of wondering about his faith, it was
time to cool off in the family pool, giving himself
a little dip right here. I don't know if I
would have gone, you know, sneakers on into that pool,
but he's probably got a hook up to get some
nu once here. Let's welcome in Cam Wolf, Steve Weisch,
and Mark Ross into the conversation. Cam, I start with you,

(13:47):
and I'm struck by this. I mentioned off the top
of the show. This might have been the best possible
spot if Shadoor Sanders watched the opportunity to compete because
the depth chart is so wide open. But he was
not one of the first six picks for the Browns
in this draft. He wasn't even the first quarterback in
this draft. That was Dylan Gabriel in the third round.
What based on what you've been told was the reason
they decided to go back into that pool show to

(14:09):
speak and take Shador in the fifth.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
Yeah, Tom, I was told early on in the process
he wasn't a target for them in the first or
even the early second round. And as we saw, they
took Dylan Gabriel as their first quarterback. They did not
expect Shador Sanders to be a Brown until Saturday, where
he kept being on the clock. He kept being on
the clock, and then the opportunity was worth more than
they thought at that stage. They thought he would have

(14:32):
been off the clock sooner. And look, this is a
lot of people in the decision room. You got your
general manager Andrew Berry and his staff, but also the coaches.
They decide what they want in their room, and this
was simply a scenario where they did not plan to
draft two quarterbacks. I talked to some of their people
in the building. They didn't have a lot to say
about the meeting. I know there's a lot said about
Shador and how he met well, but they did like

(14:53):
some things about him. They were clear that beyond cam Ward,
all of the quarterbacks had some sort of questions. So
it was just which question mark that you decided to
deal with and I talked to other people around the league,
two executives in particular. Once I had a second round
grade on Shador, but as a starter, and that team
already had an entrench starter, so they did not draft
him because they felt like he was not in their

(15:14):
flow of things. I had another team that said, we
had a third ground game Rod grad on Shador, but
we honestly did not do enough homework on him to
draft him as a backup know how he could handle
that particular situation. And so the Browns, who did do
substantial homework on Shadur knew what made him tick, knew
what made it work. And now the job is on
Kevin Stefanski to figure out how we're going to divvy
up these quarterback reps between Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Shador Sanders,

(15:38):
and Dylan Gabriel. Inside of camp. One thing that is clear,
as Shador's handled this process well, I think it's interesting
that his word throughout the process of legendary. What an
opportunity he has fifth round pick trying to resurrect a
franchise that hasn't had a quarterback in twenty five years.
Wouldn't that be legendary given the week that he has had.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Mark, let's just recap for a second here the off
season at the quarterback position, they trade Dorian Thompson Robinson
in a fifth round pick for Kenny Pickett. They sign
Joe Flacco after having dalliances with Kirk Cousins. They give
Flacco like three million dollars in guaranteed money. They take
Dylan Gabriel and the third Shador Sanders in the fifth
and oh yeah, a guy who makes more than all

(16:18):
of them combined. To Sean Watson is still continuing to work,
though it seems unlikely that this stage he's gonna be
available at all in twenty twenty five. You work for
a long time in personnel departments. Have you ever seen
a run at the quarterback position like this? And what
do you make of the Brown strategy here? No, I haven't.

Speaker 6 (16:34):
And you have to ask this activity equal effectiveness and
we're going to get those answers in a while here.
But you look at all those names, but then you
start checking them off. We know Deshaun Watson's gone, and
then Joe Flacco. If you're talking about reps, he showed
he can come up off the couch and just go
get into games and play, so I doubt he'll get
many reps. So then you get left with the three

(16:55):
guys and Picket and Sanders and Gabriel, so they'll get
the bulk of the work, which is about normal when
you go into these mini camps and OTAs and training
camp of those three guys getting the reps, and then
they'll naturally start developing who is going to get more
reps based off of their play. That's about all this
we've talked about in the past. Being forward, they have

(17:17):
the chance to determine their fate and how many reps
they get by how they perform on the field, but
off the field as well and in the classroom. And
despite everything we've talked about, for Shadora, Sanders, Steve, he
has to keep the main thing, the main thing going forward,
which is football.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
And let there be no questions and no doubts and
no debates about well is it?

Speaker 6 (17:37):
This is it that if he keeps the main thing,
the main thing with football and show he does it
on the field, then he gives himself one hundred chance
to be the guy in Cleveland.

Speaker 7 (17:46):
And that's exactly Mark, That's exactly what has to happen
right after his introductory press conference.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
Things like that.

Speaker 7 (17:51):
Shut it down, because he's going to an organization where
there has been constant, like on field and off field
chaos around the quarterbacks. Johnny Manziel, this is.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Nothing new to the Cleveland Browns.

Speaker 7 (18:03):
But part of this has got to be on Chduur saying,
all the cameras that follow me, all the cameras that
were there for me during the draft process, shut it down.
If you really want to earn your keep, go earn
it because there are a lot of teams that you
talk to going into this process. Or like he's only
played for his dad, He's never had to earn a spot.
His dad gave it to him. Shut all that stuff

(18:24):
down and handle your business and the organization they need
to help him with this process.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
What did we saw you over the weekend. He was
the fifth round draft pick.

Speaker 7 (18:34):
Five players shows him ahead of him, yet their social
media posts were all about him. There are other people
on this team that deserve the attention as well. If
you want to help this kid along, stop doing stuff
for the clicks and the attention and let him earn
his own keep. That is the main thing his head coach.
As quarterback coach, Bill Musgrave is a no nonsense guy.

(18:55):
Excuse me, no nonsense guy. People in the building, especially
shod Or, need to keep it no nonsense so he
can prove that he was worth making an NFL.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
Roster because teams only keep three.

Speaker 7 (19:07):
They've got four right now, so this is going to
be real interesting how things pan out after training camp
of the preseason.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
Steve cam Mark, thank you very much a lot more
from you guys as this show rolls on. Today also
marks the first day that the compensatory pick formula no
longer is open, which means that you see some veterans
start to sign. That includes Deontay Johnson at this point,
very well traveled wide receiver. He's back in the AFC North,
agreeing to terms with the Cleveland Browns. I Meanwhile, in Pittsburgh,

(19:39):
Robert Woods also has a new home. Another veteran player
of the Rams, the Titans the Texans now set to
become a Steeler. It is a one year, two million
dollars deal, as the Steelers already traded for DK Metcalf
earlier in this offseason, continue to add to the wide
receiver group four. Is he input it whoever it is
that their quarterback ends up being. For now, the Philadelphia

(20:00):
Eagles still are on top of the NFL. That meant
today a trip to the White House to see President
Trump to visit Arlington National Cemetery as well many members
of the organization and players, as you can see on
hand for that traditional event. The Washington Commanders were right
there at the end last season. If they get back

(20:21):
to a championship game in the future, well they might
be doing it as soon as twenty thirty in a
brand new stadium. The Commanders in the Washington DC government
coming to an agreement on building a new stadium on
the site of the old RFK Stadium where Roger Goodell
attended the press conference today optimism that this project is
finally going to move forward. Get ready for the twenty

(20:43):
twenty five NFL season like never before. With the highly
anticipated NFL schedule release, every game revealed, every rivalry, every
rematch in every rookie debut. May fourteenth marker calendar circle it.
Don't miss it. Get all the details at nfl dot
com Slash Schedule dual release. Everybody's got their new home

(21:03):
across the NFL. The NFL Draft is in the books,
But who had the best dance? That was tap mc
millan trick question who won round one? We will dig
into that a little bit later on in the show,
But coming up after this, Jane Slater is going to
be with us to talk about how far she can
carry Tyler Booker across the road. No, she'll talk about
Tyler Booker the impact he can make on a Cowboys

(21:26):
team that's got it's worked cut out for it in
that NFC division. Jane's with us next. Nobody better talking
cowboys on the Insiders.

Speaker 8 (21:41):
Hello, mister Booker, Yes, sir, I got somebody who wants
to talk to you along.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
Hey, Terry Jones with boys.

Speaker 6 (21:50):
We've done in here, ye, yes, Okay.

Speaker 9 (21:54):
Congratulation boy.

Speaker 4 (21:55):
We're glad to have you as a cowboy.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
I'm an old offensive lamb. I believe it or not,
I believe it.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
I believe it.

Speaker 6 (22:00):
They always are the best looking, they're the smartest, and
they own the damn jam So that's an office.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
Definitely.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
I thank you so much.

Speaker 6 (22:08):
I can't wait to get there.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Get the worse.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Jerry Jones right there with his first round pick, Tyler Booker.
Jane Slater's our first round pick on the Insiders here
with me, Tom Pelisero. Jed actually met Tyler Booker the
night before the draft. I always ask players like, where
do you think you're going a lot of times you
get hey, whoever drafts me? Tyler thought for a second
and he goes, I think I'm going to Dallas. He's like,
I really feeling the vibes with the coaches. Man, I

(22:31):
think I'm going to be a cowboy. Well he called it.
He goes to Dallas at number twelve. Overall, why was
he the right fit there?

Speaker 10 (22:39):
You know the reason why he is the right fit
is you. All you have to do is go listen
to is an interview with Micah Parsons and his buddies
over there at Bleacher Report. I wish we had the video,
but I'll read you the quote. Football is a child's game.
People wake up. They're like, I can't wait to play
this football game today. They get so excited to play
football until they come across Tyler Booker. Then when I'm
going after quarter after quarter, play after play, series after series,

(23:04):
and I start to see that love leave their eyes.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
That's what makes me love the game.

Speaker 10 (23:09):
Now, listen, I understand that Jerry Jones played offensive line
at Arkansas, which is still fascinating to me. Obviously, offensive
linemen have gotten a lot bigger. This is a six
five three d and twenty five pounds former captain at Alabama,
a guy who had gone to multiple Saban camps. If
you listen to Nick Saban, he speaks highly of this pick.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
But more importantly, you.

Speaker 10 (23:31):
Are missing now as seven time All Pro right guard
in Zach Martin. And right before the draft, I had
received a tip that maybe there were concerns about who
was going to lead that offensive line room, and that
wasn't a knock on Tyler Smith, who they got over
there on the left side. Let me tell you, Tyler
Smith was the last really really impressive Combine not combine

(23:52):
but rather draft pick that the Cowboys had reminded me
a lot of this press conference with Tyler Booker. Guess
there are a lot of Tyler on this team. You know,
they've also got Tyler Gotton from last year. But this
is their emphasis to bolster that area. You know, when
I was at Combine, I was talking to some folks
and I think the natural thought was that the Cowboys
absolutely have to address wide receiver or running back. That

(24:15):
seems like the area that they're struggling with, particularly with
Ceedee Lamb getting double teams. And I was told, Jane,
we got to upgrade this offensive line. He goes, even
if we had gotten Dereck Henry, Dereck Henry couldn't have
run behind this line. So that told me that that
was going to be an area of emphasis. Now, I
think if t Mac had been there, that was the
guy they really really wanted, they would have absolutely gone

(24:36):
and addressed the wide receiver position. But they felt really
good about this Booker pick. And this is a guy
that's likely going to be around your organization for eight
years to come.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
We talk a lot about the need for more weapons.
They're running back and wide receiver. When you look at
the Cowboys draft class as a whole, Jane, what do
they still have to accomplish here in the next few
months for training camp.

Speaker 10 (24:59):
Well, they addressed the running back position with two running
backs in this draft. Of course I love one of
them with Jaden Blue. But when we talk about wide receiver,
that's still this area that is of concern. Now, got
to give credit to my buddy over at the Fort
Wars Star Telegram, Nick Harris, reporting today that Mauri Cooper
is in play.

Speaker 3 (25:17):
Well, I reached out to.

Speaker 10 (25:18):
My folks and they said they've absolutely kicked around the
idea of Amory Cooper. Cowboy fans hate when they see
me on the timelines because a lot of times you
hear these names associated with Dallas Cowboys and it's sort
of driving up their market.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Doesn't seem to be the case here.

Speaker 10 (25:33):
There could potentially be a reunion with the Maury Cooper,
but I want to temper that by saying, here comes
the wet blanket. They have kicked around a lot of
wide receivers, I'm told now it's unclear how they're going
to go about addressing that position. But I think what
should give the fans some confidence is they know it's
an area they need to address. And even though Jerry
has said over and over they've got Jonathan Mingo from

(25:55):
last year, it doesn't sound like they're done with the
wide receiver position.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
Dane, Thank you very much, a lot more from you
all summer long as things continue to play out right
there in Dallas.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Take a look at the list of most draft picks
by college Ohio State right at the top. Much of
the chagrin of our good friend rich Ozen, who may
or may not have mentioned this a time or two
on Draft night? How was there with fourteen Georgia, thirteen
Texas with twelve? I don't see Columbia up there, but
maybe they're like right after Ole Miss at eight. These
schools are winners. Everybody loves a winner. Let's go through

(26:29):
some draft winners with some of our good friends here
for as the Aces, presented by Ace Hardware, joined by
Jeffrey Chidea, Steve Weisch, and Mark Ross. Jeff you wrote
a bit about this very topic on NFL dot com
NFL dot com slash chedea. Want you start us off

(26:50):
and give us some Night one winners in the twenty
twenty five NFL Draft.

Speaker 9 (26:55):
Well, the biggest one for me was the Cleveland Brons
because that Trey they pulled off of the Jacksonville Jaguar
was a no brainer. And I imagine when Andrew Berry,
the general manager, got that call, he had to be thinking, like,
what you're giving me this? This is like okay, it's
done because you're giving them a second round pick this year,
You're getting that first round pick next year, which is huge,
and you still wind up with defensive tackle Mason Grant,

(27:18):
the best in tier defender in this draft. I think
that the Browns had to be ecstatic about how this
turned out. You saw what they did on Day two,
but for me, day one, getting it going with that
trade at number two Steve was just a huge, huge
boost for their organization.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
It was huge.

Speaker 7 (27:32):
But they did pass up on the best player in
the draft. That's why I'm going down the draft board
a little bit to pick number twenty, the Denver Broncos
taking Texas cornerback Jday Baron. This is my favorite pick
of the first round because, first off, the Denver Broncos
have already loaded up on a good defense already by
adding guys like Talano who funk it to that secondary,
and now they add this playmaker Mark. I know you've

(27:54):
written some great evaluations on him. One of the best athletes,
great with the ball in the hands, but he's versatile.
And when you have a corner like patri Tan who
travels with the opponent's number one receiver, to have a
backfilling dB like him while he's on the field, that
gives Vance Joseph the defensive coordinator all kinds of possibilities.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
Love the Broncos pick here.

Speaker 6 (28:17):
I love Jadave Aaron Steve picking them to be my
defensive Rookie of the Year yesterday on the Path of
the Draft show. So he stole my thunder there. But
I'm going to go with another team with a similar philosophy.
That's the Baltimore Ravens with Malachi Starts, who I had
Starts going to the Ravens in my mock draft, and
that was because you get Kyle Hamilton a many Kyle
Hamilton in the versatility, the smarts, the competitiveness, the ball skills,

(28:43):
where Malachi Starts can do everything so versatile, and that's
what Kyle Hamilton has done with arguably being the best
safety in football. So now you have this Ravens defense
who with the second half of the season maybe the
best in football. They load up and get even better
with Starts. We're not even mentioning Mike Green that steel
in the second round, but Stark's just going there or
being able to learn from Kyle Hamilton with that versatility.

(29:06):
Marlon Humphrey, Zach Gore has got to be going crazy there.

Speaker 3 (29:10):
Spend some time with Nacas Stark's family the night before
the draft.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Good people.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
He's a high character dude. They're a little nervous about
the flying, so hope their flight was okay. After he
gets drafted by the Ravens, Jeff, let's go back to
you give us some night two winners for the draft.

Speaker 9 (29:26):
I'm going with Luther Burden the third here, the Missouri
wide receiver, because he could have easily been a first
round pick. And you have to love what Ryan Pols
has been doing with that team because they got Colston Lovelin,
the big tight end from Michigan in.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
The first round.

Speaker 9 (29:37):
But to get this guy in the second round. A playmaker,
a guy who's great after the catch with a football
in his hands, a dude who fits perfectly into the
slot alongside rome A Doonsay and DJ Moore. You look
at what Ben Johnson did with slot with a slot
receiver named Alman Ross Ain't Brown Detroit, fifty five percent
of the snatch for him came out of the slot.
I expect Luther Burden to do big things in Chicago,

(29:57):
Steve the same kind of opportunities.

Speaker 7 (29:59):
Absolutely love that, Jeff. He's a heck of a playmaker.
You picked the Browns on day one. I picked them
in Day two because they addressed two kneed positions. They
get Carson Squassinger, the UCLA linebacker, the off the ball linebacker.
Then a few picks later they go back and get
running back quinch On Judkins out of Ohio State. So
getting these two players again, these are need positions. They
needed an off the ball linebacker. Swassengers a playmaker, he's

(30:21):
got good athleticism. We know the story of former walk on.
That's this bad evaluation. But they getting Judkins right, Nick
Chubb is gone. They only had two running backs on
their roster. They ended up getting a second running back
later in the draft. But this is an in state player,
a big body, power player, North South guy should really
fit in for whomever's playing quarterback for the Browns.

Speaker 6 (30:42):
A lot of Browns low I'm going to go with
another franchise have been a little bit downtrodden. But I
thought had a good draft, and that's the Raiders with
Jack Besch TCUI receiver Jack besh go on there. And
that's because it's not just the talent with Besho I
thought had was comparable to some of the guys got
taken in first. But now you got Ashton gent that
you know teams are gonna be focused on and of
course brock Bauers in the past game and Besh when

(31:04):
I look at their depth chart, he might be their
best receiver. And we know Geno Smith getting in there
can sling it and throw for three three k any
season and three hundred any game. So here you have
a quarterback that can sling it, and you've got playmakers
that are going to demand the attention in Gentie and Bowers,
where Besh can just slide in there and say, Okay,
I'm gonna feast too. Use my competitive, strong tough ability

(31:27):
that he has. So I just love to fit there
with Besch and his talent to say, yeah, I'm gonna
make some plays here.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
Great story for Jack Besh, the Senior Bowl superstar now lends,
and a perfect opportunity for with the Raiders.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
Guys.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Thank you very much, as always, excellent stuff as we
continue to break down the twenty twenty five NFL Draft, Charsan.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
How are doing, Buddy, I'm doing well. I tell you,
your story and your football journey is incredible and we
can't wait for you to continue it here in Cleveland.
You're a Cleveland Brown dude. We can't wait, We can't
wait to get we can't wait to get you out
of here.

Speaker 5 (32:09):
Hey.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
Hey, they're they're pretty excited. We're pretty excited too, man like,
like ab said, you fit who we are, you fit
what we do, okay, and we're gonna get you on board,
all right.

Speaker 8 (32:19):
So congratulations Carson, Congratulations, Thank you. Hey, I'm gonna need
you to clean that hair up before you get back.
I enjoyed us fantastic, can't wait. They can't wait to
get to work.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
From a one time walk on to a member of
quite the draft class for the Cleveland Browns, Carsons, wasn't
your friend of the Insiders finally has his NFL home.
Welcome back to the Insiders, Tom Pillaicero, joined once again
by Cameron Wolf. The Browns draft camp all started with
the big move at number two. You were there in Bria.

(32:56):
You told us all day that things were in motion there.
Tell me about how that trade came together, more important,
how it might help shut up Cleveland's future here as
we move forward.

Speaker 5 (33:07):
Yeah, Tom, it was a wild Thursday. They made that
hard decision to pass on a Travis Hunter because of
how it set them up for the future and essentially
how it was put to me. They thought that having
three or four good players was more valuable than maybe
having one unicorn as we're seeing in Travis Hunter. And
the reality is we're going to track Travis Hunter versus

(33:27):
the Browns picks throughout. But there's a lot of people
around the league, and I talked to three executives from
different teams that all felt like the Browns got the
quote unquote winning side of that trade because of the
value because of the twenty twenty six first round pick. Remember,
unlike the NBA, these picks are not protected, So if
Jacksonville plays poorly next year and there's a top ten pick,

(33:47):
the Browns could potentially have two top ten picks next
year and sets them up for what they believe is
a more rich quarterback class and more rich overall class.
And so, of course they drafted the two quarterbacks this year,
but it doesn't prevent them from wanting to get their
guy in twenty twenty six. This is also a team that,
because of the Deshaun Watson deal, had a lack of resources,
had a lack of good players. Everything I heard all

(34:09):
week in the Brown facilities, we just got to get
really good starters. They felt like they got a starter
in Mason Graham. They felt like they got two starters
in the second round and running back and a linebacker position.
And they felt like that throughout the draft. And so
for this Browns team, they feel like, hey, we might
not be a player a unicorn away, but this hall
sets us up and replenishes us towards the future. So

(34:30):
look for twenty twenty six and the Browns to be
super active in that draft. But they feel really good
about how they're building going forward.

Speaker 1 (34:38):
They doubled up at the quarterback position in the mid brounds,
also doubled up at the running back position here Camp.

Speaker 5 (34:44):
Yeah, Quinn Shawn Jenkins their first pick there. They feel
like he can be a bell cow from what I understand,
twenty plus carry runner. He's a guy at Ohio State
that was their power back in Trayvon Henderson was a
little bit more of the speed slasher, and he's fit
for asc Nor football.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
He's gonna be a guy.

Speaker 5 (35:00):
That they can hand the ball twenty twenty five times
that they want. He can potentially start Day one in
that backfield, and it's sort of a start of a
new era. Of course, knew Nick Chubb was the lead
back there. From what I understand this makes it pretty
unlikely that Nick Chubb returns to Cleveland. They also drafted
Dylan Sampson in the fourth round, and so the idea is,
you have Junkins, you have Dylan Sampson, and you have

(35:22):
Jerome Ford kind of being a three man running back
backfield there. But regardless of who ends up being the
starting quarterback, whether it's Flacco or Picket or Gabriel or Sanders,
this is a team that really wants to run the
ball and lean on their run game. And so for
early fantasy football owners, Junkins might be a guy. Samson
might be a guy that you really want to take
an eye on, because this is going to be the
identity of this team in twenty twenty five as they

(35:44):
try to work out how their quarterback situation is going
to work this year and into the future.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Cam, thank you very much, a lot more from you
all around the NFL is this offseason rolls on.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
Twenty twenty five. NFL Draft is in the book, and
Path to the Draft is breaking down this year's rookie class.
Path to the Draft presented by Harbor Free weeknights at
six pm Eastern on NFL Network and streaming on NFL Plus.
Very happy to welcome back in Mark Ross and Steve
Weisch once again, guys are going right to it. The

(36:19):
draft is all about value, all about steals. Give me
your biggest steel, Mark, let's start with you.

Speaker 1 (36:27):
This is a no brainer for me.

Speaker 6 (36:28):
That's Jehad Campbell going to the Eagles there at thirty one,
the Eagles trading from thirty two to thirty one, that's how.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Much they wanted to get this guy. My absolute favorite
player to.

Speaker 6 (36:38):
Watch in the draft, and I thought was a top
ten type talent. And I just couldn't believe when it
just kept falling and fall like the Eagles are not
going to get this guy. The Eagles are not going
to get this guy. And the Eagles got this guy.
They do it every year, Howie Roseman. Jahad is a
Philly native right there. The versatility is there, the playmaking,
the explosiveness, some concerns about the shoulder, but how I

(36:59):
rose and laid it out beautifully like this is a
long term investment. Who cares if he's ready week one,
week two, Steve, this is an absolute Pro Bowl type player.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
Every year. That's why the Eagles are the Eagles. I
mean they don't.

Speaker 7 (37:10):
They just take the best player, regardless if they've got
people there ahead of them.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
Look, I'm going to go into the second round. In
the Seattle Seahawks.

Speaker 7 (37:17):
They traded up early to the second round to get
safetyes nick Emmon Warrior out of South.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
Carolina and Mark You know, this is a real dude, right.

Speaker 7 (37:25):
About six three to two twenty, can play free, can
play strong, can do some things in the slot, gets
his hands around the ball, A big tackler. Where did
Mike McDonald, the head coach come from the Baltimore Ravens.
He had Kyle Hamilton there. I think that is a
fairly good comp for him and Minjuri also an athletic superstar.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
Blew up the combine because of the speed at the
size that he's at.

Speaker 7 (37:47):
So you add him to a division that's got let's
loaded with wide receivers where everybody now has a has
a very good tight end, guys like George Kittle and
Tray McBride. He's a perfect defensive chess piece for the
mass within the NFC West. Great value by the Seahawks
TV though they had to trade up a little bit
to get.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
Some and you watch Kyle Hamilton in this Ravens defense.
You're like, he is one of one. There's no one
else like him except then a couple of years later.

Speaker 1 (38:14):
We'll see.

Speaker 3 (38:15):
We'll see if nick Emmon Moorrey ends up just like him,
same coach. Going to be fun to track guys. Awesome
stuff as always. Thank you very much for joining us,
and now we will take our final look back of
the entire offseason. That's not real, ju, but for tonight
at least in the twenty twenty five NFL drafts, the
fun moments and why we absolutely had a blast.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
In Green Bay.

Speaker 6 (38:45):
Him. How you doing, man, Mike Begonne's with Tennessee Titans.

Speaker 9 (38:49):
We couldn't think of any more more deserving to be
this number one pick here and to represent this franchise.

Speaker 1 (38:54):
We're trading up in the draft. We're moving from pick
five to pick two, and we're doing it because.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
You the one we've been hunting up Abdul yo yo.

Speaker 6 (39:03):
You've been waiting for this call, right, yes, sir, I
know what it was.

Speaker 1 (39:07):
Man. I can't wait to get you up here.

Speaker 5 (39:08):
Man, you're one hell of a and I look forward
to working with you.

Speaker 9 (39:13):
Buddy.

Speaker 6 (39:13):
Congratulations, man, We're gonna make you a first round pick.

Speaker 9 (39:15):
You're in New England Patriots.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Man, thank you.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 6 (39:19):
Mambo.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
What's up? Brother?

Speaker 7 (39:20):
Just be mean nasty and go.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
Be a.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
Kelvin. This is Kellen Moore. You are a New Orleans
Saints player with the ninth pick in the NFL draft. Man,
let's go come on now, come on now, we took
through a hot grease now, man, I'm telling you, Mike
kel Hey, how you doing?

Speaker 2 (39:45):
My man?

Speaker 1 (39:45):
It's John Lynch. We've been sitting here nervous about going up.

Speaker 8 (39:48):
I tried to go up, didn't.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Work, but we got you here.

Speaker 6 (39:51):
You know who this, You know what this is?

Speaker 9 (39:55):
Man?

Speaker 6 (39:55):
Are you sure you said you're ready for the smoke?

Speaker 9 (39:58):
You sure?

Speaker 3 (40:00):
Yeah? I'm ready for that heat. Man.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
Man, we we couldn't be more excited.

Speaker 3 (40:04):
Congratulations, Hey, jailing its author?

Speaker 1 (40:07):
How are you doing, buddy, I'm doing great. You excited
to stay home?

Speaker 5 (40:11):
Derek?

Speaker 1 (40:11):
How you doing? We're excited about getting started.

Speaker 6 (40:14):
We want you to bring that big boy presence that's
been on display on all that till we looked at
what's up?

Speaker 9 (40:18):
Donovan?

Speaker 6 (40:19):
How are you?

Speaker 5 (40:19):
Man? Congrats?

Speaker 4 (40:20):
I'm doing a lot better now, Coach, you do it
a lot.

Speaker 10 (40:23):
Better now, well, I can tell you you're gonna help
us form one of the best o lines in football.

Speaker 6 (40:28):
Man, Man, you did a great job in this whole
process and got a lot of confidence to you and
look forward to working and developing you.

Speaker 5 (40:34):
Man, really do.

Speaker 8 (40:36):
I'm excited for this.

Speaker 1 (40:36):
I'm ready to so many great moments in the NFL Draft.
Hard to beat those calls, but away from all the
first round draft pick calls, and what was your favorite
moment to this NFL draft.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
It's so tough because it was so dramatic and so
many unbelievable moments. But for me, it was this getting
a video and pictures from you, Tom explaining to me
how we could use the heaters on our outdoor set
to keep me warm. I mean, look that silvery thing
right by Tom's belt or whatever. That's heat right there.

(41:12):
I don't know where the air is coming from, but
that is heat. It was so freaking cold, and I
didn't want to wear my overcoat on air like some
weirdo like Tom did. So I got the heat the
heat things right into my lap and that kept me warm.
And I'm very appreciative of you Tom for pointing that.

Speaker 1 (41:28):
Out to me.

Speaker 7 (41:29):
And that's a tumbing that's coming out of the dryer
from some place at lambeau Field.

Speaker 1 (41:36):
Look at least you were warm. Look my favorite moment.
We saw Kevin Moore there calling Kelvin Banks the draft.

Speaker 7 (41:43):
Look at Kelvin, he's happy, the Texas offensive tackle.

Speaker 1 (41:46):
I'm going to New Orleans, y'all.

Speaker 2 (41:48):
I'm going there.

Speaker 1 (41:49):
And you see a little baby right there.

Speaker 7 (41:51):
Oh yeah, Mom, you gotta burnt me before you.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
Do all this celebrating right here in this and all
the all the new parents will just be like, oh,
I'll just get a clap. We'll get that out. I
thought maybe the baby was sick. Looking at the prices
that Ian autographed sports cards are going for. Look at
this here, five hundred bucks best meat smoker right there.

(42:18):
What a price well done is that? In cards that
are currently available, this one's going log on for the
dollars later.

Speaker 2 (42:27):
Bid.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
Let me be back here tomorrow. See you
