The Biggest Stories of the Day. Very tragic news out
of Texas Kirk County as a result of last week's
flashed floods. The number of people reported missing has gone
up exponentially. As search teams are coming through the debris
and destruction. They're looking for more than one hundred and
sixty people who disappeared in the raging waters. We're going
(01:04):
to continue to search and look to try and reunite
families because that's where our focuses are. Reuniting families with
their missing loved ones. It's our biggest priority and bringing
them closure, which I think has unfortunately become kind of
what they're talking about now. You know, almost a week later,
if they haven't found.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Them, you know, so tragic.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
But an additional dozen people have been reported missing in
other Central Texas counties. The death toll from the floods
also climbed to at least one hundred and ten people.
Of course, we've all heard about the summer camp by
this point, you know, kids that are missing. My sister
unfortunately knew one of the families affected. She's in Dallas,
went to college with the parents or the mom. I
(01:50):
feel like a lot of people, for whatever reason, have
ties to this camp or this part of the country.
And yeah, I can't imagine either. And I guess I
guess that the cabin that sort of was washed away
there was lower ground, had the young kids. It's just awful.
And then severe storms continue to roll into the east
(02:11):
now as Texas is dealing with more flash flooding threat threats.
Over eighty five million people are said to be impacted
by severe storms in mid Atlantic Washington, Philadelphia, and New
York will also see heavy rain, strong winds. Flash flood
watches for parts of the region up throughout the Northeast
have begun. Meanwhile, heat advisories are in place for over
fifty million people from the Carolinas to the northeast, and
(02:35):
Central Texas is still under threat of flash flooding. We're
working on something to do to help out the folks
in Central Texas, but I don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
I don't want put any one on the hook yet because.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
There's an organization that brings pilots together from all over
the country during these sorts of disasters to load up
supplies from all over the place and then bring them.
And we're not going to go into the affected area
because I think that would get in the way.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
While you can.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
We're talking about loading the plane up with supplies from
Chicago air Fread.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
And taking it down to Dallas. We think we have
a partner for that.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
And then there's also some resources that we've posted on
our social media feeds. If you're interested in helping a
few vetted organizations for raising supplies and money and for
all those affected.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
So we'll see what happens. I don't want to put
anybody on the hook, Jason. No, it's not tiny yet,
but soon soon.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Which we think we've identified a partner who is generously
providing us with what we need to then go buy
the supplies. So then put them in the plane and
fly them down there on Friday. So that's our hope,
and then again we'll get that stuff up on all
the different socials if you want to help out with that. Today,
which is July ninth, I have no idea what data
is a where I am will be the shortest day
in recorded history. Today is the shortest day in history.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Wait, I thought the days are longer. Well, I don't know.
I'm confused.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Earth's rotation speeds up by about one point three to
one point six milliseconds thanks to the Moon's position interacting
with earth spin. I need bid Night to come in
here and explain this to me. It's part of the
broader trend. Three unusually short days are expected this summer
July ninth, July twenty second, and August fifth. It's so
pronounced that time authorities may have to add a negative
(04:13):
leaped second, likely around twenty twenty nine, to aligned clocks
with actual solar time.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Who gets to decide that, right? What we gotta add
a second somewhere? Guys, whose job is that? And did
we not fire that person yet?
Speaker 2 (04:26):
I thought, you know, we still have that person So
the tiny shift won't effect daily life, it could have
implications for GPS communication to other precision systems. Experts say
it's not dangerous, but it is notable. Earth is spinning
faster in a way that's not fully understood. Barbie is
launching its first doll with type one diabetes, retailing for
(04:49):
ten ninety nine. The newly released all comes with a
glucose monitor and insulin pump. Medical device is commonly worn
or carried by people with the chronic condition. MATTELICXEC said
that Barbie It helps shape children's early perceptions of the world,
and by reflecting medical conditions like T one d we
ensure more kids conceive themselves in the stories they imagined
(05:12):
and the dolls that they love. To ensure that Barbie's
medical equipment was accurate, they teamed up with a nonprofit
breakthrough TD one to help bring it all to life.
Type one diabetes is a chronic condition that affects the
body's ability to produce insulin, a hormone that helps regulate
blood sugar levels. According to the American Diabetes Association, two
million Americans have type one diabetes, including three hundred and
(05:34):
four thousand children and adolescents.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Remember, there was.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Going to be a way to to like one click
to get out of all the crazy subscription emails, you know,
spam craft that we got. Well, I guess it's going
to remain difficult to cancel subscriptions as the click to
cancel rule has been blocked. It was going to be
easier to cancel stuff you didn't want in your email box,
but an appeals court has decided that Americans are going
to have to hump for the option on websites. The
(05:59):
FTC's to Cancel rule was announced last year with the
goal of making it just as easy to cancel something
as it was to enroll. It was said to take
effect in a few days, with the court yesterday, so
the agency hadn't done a proper regulatory analysis of the
rule that's required when the impact on the economy is
more than one hundred million dollars, the US Chamber of
Commerce and a trade group representing major cable on Internet
(06:20):
providers such as Charter Communications, Comcast, Cocks, and media companies
like Disney Entertainment, Warner Brothers. They fought to block the rule,
so they're going to make it hard again, or I
guess then maybe they never made it easy. But it's
amazing how easy it is to get the email or
for them to put you on the list or send
you the email you didn't want, and then try to
figure out like how to unsubscribe or how to get
(06:41):
out of it.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
It is possible, right, they want to know why. It's like,
it's none of your business. I don't want to be here.
I didn't ask to be here. Let me out right.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Why do you know why?
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Ran Kiki? This is for you.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
A new study says that watching tons of TikTok and
reels could mess with your brain. People addicted to short
videos were more impulsive, more risks, and didn't care as
much about losinger and getting in the way of NASCAR drivers,
kind of like gambling behavior. Brainscan showed changes in areas
tied to focus, rewards and decision making, basically too much
(07:12):
scrolling may make it harder to think things through or
stay patient. And the best cities in the US have
been named you would like to know where They are.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Very random, actually.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
The twenty twenty five Traveling Leisure World's Best Awards ranked
the top US cities based on landmarks, culture, food, friendliness,
shopping and value. Santa Fe, New Mexico. Wow, number one,
celebrated for art, scenic, beauty, and standout cuisine.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
New Orleans. Okay, now that's a little more accessible. Nothing
you anyone could go to Santa Fe.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
But that's not really like I don't know, I can't
remember the last time somebody was like it wasn't a billionaire.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
How about Santa Fe this weekend? Guysaire, let's just pop
in there.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Well, that's where the guys who make money in this
business hang out. Charleston, which is why I've only been
once and I didn't pay for it. Charleston, South Carolina, Savannah, George,
Charleston's a great place.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Savannah is a great place, of course.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Charleston rich in historic architecture, Savannah valued for its picturesque
downtown and southern hospitalities. They are mostly all in the
south of the West Alexandria, Virginia. I appreciate it for
historic streets and easy access to DC New York. New
York City specifically placed a respectable eighth with a score
of eighty three for the theater scene mostly and then Greenville,
(08:30):
South Carolina was ahead of New York City. And I
don't know where a lot of the places where people
can hear us were, but they weren't highly ranked enough
for me. This year, travelers and readers are choosing smaller,
culture rich cities over big urban centers. It's National Dimple's
Day today. Who's texting me while I'm talking somebody who's
obviously not listening
