Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Fread Show. Sam is taking over Las
Vegas this January for his seven night residency Adobe Live
at Park MGM. And we've got a trip for two
to the January twenty fifth show, two night Hotel State
at Park MGM January twenty fourth through the twenty sixth
and round trip airfare. Text pillow to three seven three
three seven now for a chance to win. A confirmation

(00:21):
text will be said. Standard message data rates may apply.
All thanks to Live Nation. It's the Fred Show. Good
Morning Win O three five Kiss FM, Chicagos, number one
of music stations where live at Larry Children's Hospital. It
is our radio thon. Jason Brawn is here. Yes, hello,
who I mean you? You organized this whole thing. You
and Echo and a crew. I mean we got we
got balloons, we got seventeen radio stations broadcasting right now.

(00:43):
Light up necklaces we have so who is in charge
of the lightup necklaces? That was a nice touch.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
That's our girl, Diana.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
That was a nice touch. This I see you've embrace yours.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah, I love it.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
I love As soon as I walked in the door,
I was like, where do I find those?

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Yeah? Why? Thank you? I know hi kailin good morning,
Good morning. She almost tried to buy somebody high chocolate
this morning, and I thought that was a bold move.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
I should be arrested.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
You should. The person was like like hot coffee, and
then and this is a volunteer for luriy and then
Cameron goes right into my phone to order her a
hot chocolate extra whib cream and I was like, I
don't know what, what did you hear?

Speaker 5 (01:12):
I need to go back on the ADHD meds. I
think it's I think it's becoming more and more apparent
every day.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
I think so too. I was like, that's a really
bold choice for that person. But we got it ill
straightened out. No, it's it's you know, it's it's this
is always an adventure. Uh broadcasting live from the from
the eleven eleventh floor, twelfth floor. Yeah, yeah, of the
beautiful Lurry Children's Hospital in the Loop in Chicago. An
amazing organization. And what I should have done, guys, is

(01:38):
I should have brought a the saurus this morning because
I need more. In fact, I might pull it up
because I need more words to describe that that. Like,
maybe Jason, I'll put you in charge of the words
this morning. You're in charge of the words. I need
as many words for unbelievable, amazing as possible.

Speaker 5 (01:53):
We have the internet, though we don't have to have
a fisaurus.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
No, I no, he always carries a film you have,
I mean, he has one, but you yeah, yeah, Now
can you get out the one I gave you? Yes,
it's right next to his Bible and can you pull
that out? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:05):
You know, I just found eighty four options, so I
think will be good.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Good, because I'm going to point at you because I
find that when we do these, I mean, I run
out of the words to describe how astonishing it is.
Thank you, thank you, how astonishing this place is in
the incredible work that they do here and all the
lives that are saved. And that's why we're doing this
this morning to raise money. It was over a million

(02:31):
dollars that that you guys helped us raise last year,
and that's the goal again this year. I noticed, Jason
that they put a man in charge of us this
year as a man in charge of it? Now, is that
because of previous performance or what I mean, like, why
is there now a man standing over us that works
for the hospital, who's in charge of us.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, mister Aaron is keeping us in line today?

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah, Aaron, I here, we will give you a microphone eron.
We noticed this year that Danna put someone in charge
of us, and I was just curious. Is that was
there an internal meeting of some kind or a series
of emails perhaps where we're several meeting I understand, and
so and what was the main concern? You know, I

(03:15):
cannot confirm or deny. I see, so it's an internal
sort of situation. But all I know is that this
year there's a man with a vest that says Larry
Children's Hospital, a name tag and a clipboard. Yes, whose
job it is is to make sure that we don't
do anything stupid? But that's what we do. I thought
that's why we were here, to make sure you do
do a little stupid, you stay on time while doing it. Okay,

(03:37):
So is there like some kind of shock attached to it?
Is this a shock collar? That those are not lights
on your round? I knew it. I knew there was
an ultra because we're the only ones that have them.
So we're wearing these little thank you and Aaron, We're
gonna make you proud this morning. We really are. I
love it, thanks for being here. Probably not, but anyway,
they gave us Christmas tree light necklaces. But I've noticed

(03:58):
we'd only well, I guess other people have a bit.
Mine has a big box attached to the backup.

Speaker 6 (04:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
I'm trying to figure out why that. Yeah, and for
some reason, Jason also has control of the remote, which
is really inappropriate and.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Astounding.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Mad. We just do that, did we? I don't know
we did astonishing? Oh maybe maybe maybe we jump around
in the alphabetical maybe we maybe we go to the
middle and then because or maybe we do them in order.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah, we're going in alphabetical order.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Well, we get eighty six left to go. But the
number to call this one you do want to help
us out is eight eight eight eight three one seven
seven three three LURI Children's dot Org slash radiothon and
text lurry l U r I E to three four
nine to eight four and you receive a link to donate.
I'm trying to think, you know, on the show, we

(04:51):
all have our different interests in the community. I don't
know that there's any other time of year that we
actually ask you to give money. Uh, And I don't
think that we would ask you to do anything that
we don't do. But once a year we do actually,
and many of you are so generous you donate to
all the things and support all the things that we
do anyway, but once a year we actually ask for
you to if you've got a dollar, five dollars, if

(05:14):
you've got one hundred dollars, if you've got a business
and you want to donate something, and then you want
to somehow get a hold of us, I guess you
maybe will pull up the text you can text us.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
I have it up.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
We're known to give free advertising. I mean, look, it
doesn't really make as long as we raise over a
million dollars today in our radio thought, which is going
on all day on all the iHeart radio stations. The
sky's the limit as far as you know, the gratuitous
efforts that we will do. Chason will do just about
anything anything you want. Yeah, for a little bit of change, Yeah,
that's it, just Kiki for the almost anything they want.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Almost I'll do anything.

Speaker 4 (05:47):
I'll do anything, especially for the monthly subscribers, the people
that sign up for the monthly giving you get all
of me aged.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
I don't want to put you on the spot of
the thirteen.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
But last year I remember you signed up to take
out of your bank account once a month.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
So yeah, now looking for you, daddy. AJ.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
He's one of our one of the top thirteen. I mean,
the thirteen are all important, but Danita's number one. And
then it really starts to get a little dicey when
we start ranking two, three, four, five. I mean AJ
is right up there though, but he's already dropped off
a bag of gold to Blooms.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
One shot shots obviously.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
The Blooms Brooms. I think that's what you say, like
like chunks of gold.

Speaker 6 (06:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
I don't know why. I know that. It's got to
be like an old thing.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
But it's just funny that when I say something that
I think is right and then Jason doubts it, and
then I begin to doubt myself. And it's this cycle.
Oh there's Spanish gold, Yeah, that's the ones he yeah, yeah,
they're Spanish on them, so that when that's how I knew.

Speaker 5 (06:44):
I don't know where he got them, but does yeah important?
Where am I going to go to get this converted
into money? I have no idea it does anyone melt down.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Gold it's gold. Yeah, it's that problem. I see Deanna
taking into the pawn shot right now.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
It does really carry that thing and.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Steel you can borrow whatever it takes. Uh, this is
this is an organization that we're proud to be associated with,
and we want to help them raise as much money
as possible. And you're gonna hear some incredible excuse me,
we're gonna hear some.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Oh no, I'm really Yeah, you had wildering.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Oh I don't. I don't think we'll be confused by it.
Like what word did you search? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
The source dot com is not hitting.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Yeah, it's nice working for you. We might need to
revisit this idea. But anyway, I'm gonna keep cooining at
you for words because I don't I don't want to
overstate my amazing word. But you're gonna hear some incredible
stories of perseverance and and life saving efforts that happened
here throughout the morning. And then we're gonna still be
the clowns that we always are. So don't worry. Don't
you worry. We'll give you the same level of entertainment
that which is very low that you've always come to

(07:50):
anticipate from us, however, make us look good today too,
because I don't. I'm a very competitive Many of us
here are very competitive people, uh and and we like
to we like to be the ones that raise the
most money because it helps the most people, and because
then we can go around and say say things like
to our colleagues here, you know, like you get in

(08:11):
there for like Melissa Foreman, I can't wait. I cannot
wait to get it Melissa Foreman's faith and just say
to her, you might be the Queen of Christmas, but
I'm the king of this of this is my house, right.
You might be a Chicago radio legend with your little
cheat code Christmas songs over there, but not over here, buddy.
You know what, I played Benson Boone and raise more

(08:32):
money than you did. So I don't care, you know
what I mean. I can't wait to see that it's
not gonna happen. But because she's the queen and I
and I about her. But still maybe maybe Maria Palmer
is the one I'll get it again because she's a
new meda this morning radio game. So it's time you
it's time you learn Yes, yeah, actually kick, I'll make
you do it. You go over there handling Maria. Yes, Melissa, No,

(08:55):
I know, We're all like, now, we're not doing it.
Eight eight three one seven seven three three is the
number luriy children's dot org slash radio thumb and text
the word lurry l u r I E to three
four nine eight four to receive a link to doing it.

Speaker 7 (09:10):
Now.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
I have to mention this too. There's a bit of
a Chicago vernacular that adds an s to lurry and
it is not lurri's. Yeah, so Calin, don't stop to
I see you over there. You're you're texting lurries and
that won't go anywhere. No gold blues are being delivered
if you do that. It's just lurry l u r

(09:32):
I E. I just want to. I want to because
I mean I can see it right now, being super
generous and being like, oh my gosh, I want to
help out the Fred Show raise money and they grab
their phone they type in lurries. I swear that was had.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Yeah, we already hit a million.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
In that case. Uh back to that, I guess it's
i'd be if you I'll tell you what if you
call and donate a million dollars right.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
A million dollars, like a million and five because I
think glad, yeah, a little bit.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
More if you call and donate what Mackenzie Bezos, whatever
your name is, if you're listening, if you call and
donate one million dollars right now, I don't know what
I would do.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
But whatever you want, right but I'll go.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
We'll put on Sabrina Carboner taste and play waiting by
the phone all morning and call in a morning and
it's fine, it's all good. You know why. I'll worry
about it. But yes, the thing that we would love
it if you're able to do. And I know, I
know that the money is tied and it's hard for
people to do, and so don't feel bad if it's
something that you can't. But twenty bucks a month to
be a monthly partner, which is just sixty seven cents

(10:35):
a day, I've always won.

Speaker 8 (10:37):
You know.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
I used to grow up watching that, and I'm this
is going to aide me a little bit. That Jerry
Lewis telethon. Did you ever watch that? You know? And
it's like, now I have my chance to be Jerry
Lewis right here in Chicago Land and tell people that
for just sixty seven cents a day you can save
people's lives. Isn't that amazing? Are you compelled?

Speaker 5 (10:54):
I'm compelled, but I'm just thinking about fifty bucks gets
them a little therapy visit from a dog.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Which which there you have it, And I think twenty
gets them a little hand delivered doll, a little little
like a little stuffed animal of the dog, yeh, which
is really I mean imagine if you were I hope
you never have two experiences, but imagine if you had
a kid in the hospital and somebody came along and
brought him a little stuffed animal, you know, in the
midst of the struggles. And you can make that happen

(11:20):
for just twenty bucks. And we'll tell you all morning
about all the different things, and you'll hear some incredible
stories like this one I'm about to play for you
right now. This is Josie. This is another example, one
of many that you will hear about today. Thank you
someone else from Kiss FM donating. Obviously there's no one
else could have possibly done it. But Josie's just one
of many examples that you'll hear of the life saving

(11:40):
efforts happening at Luriy Children's hospital. Check it out.

Speaker 6 (11:44):
Hi, I'm Jackie and this is my baby Josie's story.

Speaker 9 (11:49):
At LORI shojos So you looked at me that nice
and said.

Speaker 6 (11:53):
Mommy, I really thought I was gonna die. I thought
the heart wasn't gonna come.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Clove my castle.

Speaker 10 (12:04):
But on to the guy's room open.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
I just want to fail this mob.

Speaker 9 (12:12):
So we were in the other hospital at age five.

Speaker 6 (12:16):
She had already five open heart surgeries, two cardiac arrests,
and the other hospital said, I'm sorry, we cannot do
anything else.

Speaker 9 (12:25):
You're gonna get a call from Laurie's first appointment was
to meet our doctor and our check out the hospital.
But Josie she collapsed infent her doctor and she turned
really blue and the doctor said, we need to admit
asa pace now.

Speaker 6 (12:43):
And yeah, I remember running trying to get a broom.
They had a room for her. They had to run
and take her and right away she got connected to
all these machines to make sure she was stable.

Speaker 9 (12:57):
That's how sick Josie was.

Speaker 6 (12:58):
And Laurie's they told me, we're going to see if
she could be into candidate for a heart transpat and
so many tests were made for Josie and when we
got the letter she got.

Speaker 9 (13:10):
On the list.

Speaker 6 (13:11):
It was a whole celebration. One of the doctors told me,
what are you thinking, mom, And I said.

Speaker 9 (13:18):
Josie's gonna be a superstar.

Speaker 6 (13:23):
At first, I was scared, and she kept getting sicker
and sicker. To tell your truth, I thought that heart
was never going to come. I thought she was gonna
pass on. We waited in a transplant list for.

Speaker 9 (13:42):
About eight months and eighteen.

Speaker 6 (13:44):
Days and they said we found your heart.

Speaker 9 (13:51):
She looked at me that night and said, Mommy, I
really thought I was gonna die. I thought that heart.

Speaker 6 (13:55):
Wasn't gonna come. And then the heart came, and she
did die, but did re wive her back. And then
from there it started. A ball started rolling.

Speaker 9 (14:06):
At three weeks they said, oh she's stable.

Speaker 6 (14:08):
Now four weeks came, she started walking, she started doing everything,
and within that time she got discharged. So Josie's in
excellent shape and she's in school.

Speaker 9 (14:23):
Now she's driving, and I still stare at.

Speaker 6 (14:26):
Her and I cry and I say, thanks to Lories,
thanks to our hospital for giving Josie life.

Speaker 11 (14:34):
This is the Lourie Children's radiothon on one oh three
five kiss.

Speaker 1 (14:39):
M doing the French show. Is not one O three
five Kiss FM, Chicago's number one in music station. It's
our radiothon Larry Children's Hospital. We are here the number
to call to make a donation of any amount to
help the kids at Larry Children's Hospital and and kids
you know in the future too. I hope that you
never ever need to come to this place. Unfortunately, though,

(15:01):
things do happen, and you may and you want this
place to be going strong with their research, with the
best specialists, with the best care. They have the best
nurses and the best doctors. And one way to do
that is to support now eight eight eight eight three
one seven seven three three Lurry Children's dot org slash
radio thought he can also text the word Lurry no s.
I even heard it in the montage that that wonderful

(15:23):
mom talking about Josie and she she was here at Larry's.
You know what. You know how I feel about branding.
Sometimes maybe we just go ahead and change the sign.
I mean, I mean that's what people are calling it,
so that's what it is. Yeah, But except don't when
when you text tell you are I e to three
four nine eighty four and then they will send you
a link to donate. Jason, I want to commend you

(15:43):
already on the social media this morning with a very
dramatic post, very dramatic on Jared Brown this morning, and
it was a picture of the event. Here. We're on
the eleventh floor of the Larry Children's Hospital. This is
like a cafe CISCA called the Sky Cafe. It's a
cafeteria I think for parents and for people visiting and
for the staff that work here. It's beautiful with the

(16:05):
view of the city and everything else. Like everything else here.
It was so well thought of and so well done.
But what does it sake? Go ahead and if we
can have a dramatic reading from from our thespians Klein
and I want to paint the picture. It's of the balloons,
and it's of the of our radio set up here,
and it's and and and it says.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
Six stations, Yeah, thirteen hours.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Thirteen of them.

Speaker 12 (16:28):
One goal.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
What is that goal? Jason?

Speaker 2 (16:31):
A million dollars?

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Donate Now there's a link on j y R. Brown.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
I even linked it. Yeah, good job, Jason. I came
up with that in the shower this morning.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
It was really good. You really whiteboarded that one through
and it's no, it's going to make it. I think
that's that is what's going to get us the singular
million dollars. I think so too. And so it's a dollar,
five dollars, ten dollars, it doesn't really matter. Every single
dollar counts. And and the kids can't right, I mean,

(17:00):
these there are kids in the hospital right now. They
are here, they are awaiting treatment, and they need our
support right now because and again I hope maybe you're
driving to work or waking up this morning and you're
thinking about your family and everyone's healthy and good. Unfortunately,
people in this building need your help right now. Eight
eight eight eight three one seven seven three three And
and Caitlin, we tend to gravitate. I think we probably

(17:21):
mentioned about eighty times in morning when we do this
that there is a therapy dog.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
Is Hawk, Yes, so Hawk?

Speaker 1 (17:27):
And he is and we've met Hawk right, yes, crazy
golden retriever.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Isn't he so cute?

Speaker 5 (17:31):
And he has the softest hair because I guess he
has to get washed once a week, just you know,
for the Germys, and so he has like a blowout
like a Brazilian.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
He certainly does, and I think he gets it, he
gets a special one. Yeah, just for this which he
it's a Brazilian blowout that he gets.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
I think, so yeah, because it's straight.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
So yes, it is. It's beautiful. But you know that's
that's one of the I mean, I don't know how
many fifty different resources that we can talk about and
all the different ways that your donations affect these these
kids and these family directly. Like give some examples, Kalen.

Speaker 5 (18:02):
So that one always gets me, but two other ones
that get me is for twenty five dollars, Just twenty
five dollars, I mean, how many things are more expensive
than that. These little ones in the nick you get
a comfort doll which actually makes me want to cry
thinking about it, because they need to be cuddled because
their parents aren't here.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Twenty four to seven.

Speaker 5 (18:21):
Something else that always gets me is whenever we interview
one of these little kiddos and we ask them, you know,
shout out your favorite nurse, it's very apparent that they
can think of one right away and they have the sweetest,
most special bond with them. Fifty bucks, they get a
birthday celebration. I mean, you don't think about like they
just want to be normal kids. And of course they're

(18:42):
going to have birthdays while they're here, and for just
fifty dollars, that can be possible.

Speaker 3 (18:46):
And I love that they think of stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
Yeah, and you'll hear stories throughout the morning of different people.
Now I want to talk Kiki. You saw Marshall recently,
my buddy. Yes, Now, Marshall was on last year and
he was awaiting a hard transplant that he has since received. Yes,
and now the dudes out like he can dunk a
basketball and he's like seven or eight years old, like
thunbelieve it. Like the things he's doing now, he's like,
it's incredible. But that's an example of he was here

(19:12):
I think for eight or nine months, yes, awaiting a
heart transplant, and he couldn't leave. And so imagine the
sorts of milestones that you miss, birthdays and Christmas and
you know, all different kinds of things, and they sort
of try and replicate those things here to make life
as normal as possible. But that all that stuff costs money.
But the fact that they think about it something else

(19:33):
is you know how they kind of wrap their arms
around the whole family here at Larry Children's Hospital. It's
kind of like they include the siblings in the process,
and the child life specialists sort of help educate the
family and the other siblings on what's going on with
their brother or sister and you know, how to talk
about it. And then they communicated to them in a
way that they can understand depending on their age, and
make them kind of part of the process because I

(19:55):
think what you'll hear throughout the morning and throughout the day.
Oftentimes the simplers kind of get lost in this process
because the parents are so focused on the care of
the sick kid and maybe that requires, you know, them
to be here all the time and not going to
basketball games and soccer practice and the things that you know,
we take for granted as parents and and you know
as children, so they thought of all those different things.

(20:17):
But again, to have the best childlife specialists costs money,
and you can help make that happen this morning. The
phone number to donate to our Luriy Children's radio thon
eight eight eight eight three one seven seven three three
Luriy Children's dot org, slash Radio Thought and text the
word lurry l u r I E to three four
nine eight four to receive a link to donate I've

(20:39):
noticed that is Aaron our handler. Yeah, he's really trusting
because he's yeah, he's over there playing sudoko or something.
He's what he's talking to people. He's been social. He
seems to think we got this. Well.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
He did just hand me a couple people that are
listening right now to us and donated, So shout out
Taylor and Schomberg and Aaron. Unsure if it's the same Aaron,
but Aaron and Highland Park they both donated and they're
listening to us right now. So thank you so much.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
Wow Taylor.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
Now, Kaylan, if you were just to describe Taylor to
someone who's never seen Taylor before, how would you? I mean,
it's hard to do. But the very generous donator Taylor.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
Yeah, well you may have never seen her before, but
I know you read about her in the news. She
was actually the reason that the cops got called on
Chris Jenner's birthday party at bezos house because and it
wasn't for what they said. It was a sound violation,
but obviously they were like, okay, Bezos is rich, Like,
obviously there was no sound violation. It was because people
were lining up and causing traffic issues to meet Taylor

(21:37):
because they just simply heard about how beautiful?

Speaker 1 (21:41):
Is That why I was delric That's why I was
doing Yeah, because of Tator.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
I don't even think you ever made it in, right,
weren't you still.

Speaker 13 (21:47):
In line to me?

Speaker 1 (21:48):
Finally got in it. My security team was trying to
sweep and like they weren't able to because of Taylor.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
Again, it's I mean, it's frustrating, but you get it
once you see her.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
I never did get to meet her because she'd already
have with you know, I don't know, right well.

Speaker 5 (22:01):
They were carrying her or something. They were screaming like
for she's at Sholly Goodfellow. You know, she was on
their shoulders, right, and they took her out and they
wore him. I don't know, we're not sure.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
I never know. It's more of an enigma, tailor, but
like they carried her in on him on one of
those you know those things that they have, like where
the feet never touched the ground. Yeah, like I don't
know the tailor's feet ever touched the ground.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
Brushing her hair or his hair, feeding her grapes.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
Tailor, if you'd like to clarify.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
For us, you know, it would be a lot easier
if I really would.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
It really would? Now do you I have to ask,
do you bank some of these ideas in your head?
Because you know, I love to throw it to Kaylin
the description of the person that she's never ever seen?
And you always seem to What was the one the
other day that just blew me away? It was so good,
something about like Michael Angelo or something. I don't know,
but anyway, do you do you just know it was?

Speaker 3 (22:47):
It was the Ai Lex.

Speaker 13 (22:48):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
Yes, A lot of people they don't know if that
person that we were talking about is AI or real
because of the perfection.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
No, I don't.

Speaker 5 (22:56):
My heart drops to my my booty and I just
to find something in my weird brain because.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
I love to do this to Kaitlin where I asked
her to describe someone she's never seen. But anyway, thank
you for your generosity, and again, as I mentioned before,
I will plug businesses this morning for the right amount
of money. You know who we haven't heard from in
a while. The Flood Brothers.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Yeah, I bought a truck yesterday and I was.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Like, I did too. I'll say, every time I see
the Flood Brothers, I think of how they used to
roll up to the special Olympics event that we that
we are still involved with, but we don't do the
broadcast necessarily anymore. But they used to roll up in
a Flood Brothers truck with a gigantic check. Yes, And
I realized that since we haven't been doing that the
last couple of years in the same way that we

(23:41):
haven't seen them with their big check. And now and
the Flood Brothers, all of them, all the brothers, great
great friends of the show. I think today would be
a nice day to go ahead and do that. To
call the number eight eight eight eight three one seven
seven three three Larry Children's dot Org Class Radio thomb
text the word you can do this, Flood Brothers, all
of the Brothers, l U ri I E three four

(24:04):
nine eight four Text that word to that number and
you get a link to donate and then and if
you call, then just make sure that you say we
you know, I heard Fred and a crew talking about it,
and then well we'll talk about you some more. But
they're so generous always. Today it would be a great day,
ye come on, brothers, el oh y'all, yeah, it would
be a great day. So we are live this morning.
It's our Leary Children's Hospital Radio thun thirteen hours and

(24:26):
our goal is, hey, we're on our way. Clearly people
are clapping and by the way, there's no applause signing
here either. This isn't the game show. We're not stage
at best. Like when people clapping means we're happy. This
is real and we're excited. But our goal is to
raise more than last year, which was just over a
million dollars for the kids and the families at Lariy
Children's Hospital. I also want to shout out Vito. Now

(24:46):
Vito works here. Vito says he's a big listener of
the show. He can hang with the gorilla. I believe
that Vito can hang with the gorilla. He looks like
the kind of guy that could. The only issue is
that he thinks that Kaylin is Paulina.

Speaker 5 (24:58):
He also told me that he I saw Paulina on QVC,
and I'm a little mad at her because I didn't.

Speaker 3 (25:03):
Know if she was slaying things on QB No.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
I look, I know that Paulina is a business woman
and a philanthropist, and I know that she has a
lot of balls in the air. I didn't know that
she was also working at QVC. I need to look
at the terms of her contract because I don't I
don't know that we're about to do that.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
What is she selling?

Speaker 5 (25:20):
What?

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Right? Honking Yeah? I think.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
I mean, I'm curious about what the business woman she is.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
But here's the thing. If she's not gifted at selling
you know, toasters and stuff on QBC and we don't
know about it, she should be probably down here helping
us raise money exactly. I want to hear the pitch
quite frankly, right eight you are a gifted salesperson and
here you leave us to this.

Speaker 3 (25:41):
But I don't crumble around right with them and stuff?

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Yeah, unbelievable eight eight eight eight three one seven seven
three three. Any amount of donation anything a dollar, five dollars,
twenty bucks a month is amazing too. And become a
monthly partner sixty seven cents a day to help the
kids at Lory Children's Hospital, any of whom you will
meet this morning. And speaking of Marshall, he's coming by
to Rosemie. I'm sure he's a tough customer. Yes, and

(26:07):
this is his favorite song to it? Yeah, this is
the one here.

Speaker 6 (26:11):
Hi, I'm Jackie and this is my baby Josie's story
at Laurie Children's g You looked at me that night
and said, Mommy, I really thought I was gonna die.
I thought the heart wasn't gonna come.

Speaker 10 (26:25):
One day it is glowing and my cares, But on
two the guy's open.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
I just want to fail this, mom.

Speaker 9 (26:39):
So we were in the other hospital at age five.

Speaker 6 (26:43):
She had already five open heart surgeries, two cardiac arrests,
and the other hospital said, I'm sorry, we cannot do
anything else.

Speaker 9 (26:52):
You're gonna get a call from Laurie's. First apployment was
to meet our doctor and our out the hospital for Josie.

Speaker 6 (27:02):
She collapsed inthon on her doctor and she turned really
blue and the doctor said, we need to admit you
asa places now, And yeah, I remember running trying to
get a broom. They had a room for her. They
had to run and take her, and right away she
got connected to all these machines to make sure she
was stable.

Speaker 9 (27:24):
That's how sick Josie was.

Speaker 6 (27:25):
And Laurie's they told me we're going to see if
she could be into candidate for a heart transport.

Speaker 9 (27:32):
And so many tests were made for Josie and when
we got the letter she got on the list. It
was a whole celebration.

Speaker 6 (27:40):
One of the doctors told me, what are you thinking, mom,
And I said, Josie's going to be a superstar. At first,
I was scared, and she kept getting sicker and sicker.
To tell you truth, I thought that hart was never
going to come, that she was gonna pass on. We

(28:04):
waited in the transplant list for about eight months and
eighteen days and they said we found your heart.

Speaker 9 (28:18):
She looked at me that night and.

Speaker 6 (28:19):
Said, Mommy, I really thought I was gonna die. I
thought that heart wasn't gonna come. And then the heart
came and she did die, but they revived her back
and then from there it started. A ball started rolling.

Speaker 9 (28:33):
At three weeks, they said, oh she's stable.

Speaker 6 (28:36):
Now four weeks came in, she started walking, she started
doing everything, and within that time she got discharged. So
Josie's in excellent shape and she's in school now. Oh
she's thriving. And I still stare at her and I
cried and I say, thanks to Maris, thanks to our

(28:59):
hospital for giving Josie life.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
Wow wow, I mean you hear that story. It's our
Luri Children's radio thon on one of three five Kiss FM,
The Fred Show. We're here for thirteen hours. We're here
this morning, and then Shelley comes in, and then Brady,
and we're trying to with all the other iHeart stations
in Chicago here raise over a million dollars for Larid
Children's Hospital. Eron's over there, he's looking at me. I haven't.

(29:23):
We haven't been disciplined yet, he seems calm. Aaron is
the Leuriy Children's Hospital representative that they've only given to
our table for some reason. There are other radio stations here,
but no one else is receiving the supervision that we are.
I notice over there on Inspiration thirteen ninety no one
is checking to see there what they're doing.

Speaker 14 (29:40):
I mean.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
That she has the ultimate error.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
That is true. We certainly don't have that. It doesn't
either though I noticed Militia Foreman over there with her
Christmas music. I noticed that she is in fact, no
one's looking over her now. She is a legend. But
it's like, you know, really now, I will say, no
one's had to intervene, no one had to come over
and like turn the microphones out. I just I would
like to know why we're the only ones that are

(30:06):
supervised though, I don't know. And Jason, do you know
something about this?

Speaker 2 (30:09):
I don't know because I thought I was supervising, but
now I have someone supervising me supervising.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
Which, yeah, you know, strange, Chase, And I hate to
say it, but you're one of us now, and you
can't You can't be trusted, Kiki. He can't be trusted.

Speaker 4 (30:21):
No, Jason is on watch. Actually Jason is sitting closest
to him. I think Jason may have been the problem
last year. I don't know who's watching who.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
We're watching each other.

Speaker 1 (30:32):
So a little Olivia is walking by who We're gonna
talk to you later now, Olivia, you are so cute.
Now her dad we sent a video and Olivia said
she would not talk to me this morning, but she
would talk to Keiki. Yeah, Olivia, are you gonna talk
to me today on the radio? Yeah? Maybe maybe you'll talk.

Speaker 9 (30:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (30:52):
You are you gonna talk to Kiki too?

Speaker 6 (30:58):
Oh?

Speaker 10 (30:58):
No?

Speaker 3 (30:59):
You switch up? Is crazy?

Speaker 1 (31:00):
You're out now?

Speaker 3 (31:03):
Okay Aaron's going to remove her?

Speaker 5 (31:05):
Yeah yeah, okay, seven am monthly donor goal.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
So now we have little signs.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
For So Aaron has a dryer, he does he is not.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
Okay, no he's not. And he's got the shot collar
remote in his hands.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
One hundred bucks a month.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
He's like, Fred, if you don't stay on point, and
I'm going to have to hit this. See everyone thought
these were festive, little light necklaces they gave us. No,
this is how they're going to keep us in line.
So to the next hour, Aaron, I want to be
clear where the goal is to get as many people
to give one hundred dollars a month donors. Okay, I
want to be that's Aaron. That's not real clear, But

(31:49):
I love you. Yeah, yeah, if you could, let's go
ahead and go ahead and not do it in braille
because I can't. I can't. I don't know what that's says.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
But if you want to give us one hundred dollars
calling now, we don't know Morse code eron.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
Yeah, it's unbelievable. Aaron just quit. But he's seeking a
new career now, reassignment. Yeah, he does. But the number
to call to donate this morning, and again, I mean,
we're having a good time with this. It's it's this
is a uh, it's a serious thing. But then you're
gonna hear these stories throughout the morning that are just
so uplifting because I mean, can you imagine being you know,

(32:26):
Josie's mom that you just heard and she's so calmly
talking about how her child got a new heart and
is now going to live a full life and is
thriving thanks to this place, Lurid Children's Hospital. I mean,
I cannot imagine the strength that you have to have
as a parent for your kid and for your family
when you know that that is something that's forthcoming. Marshall,

(32:48):
who we're gonna hear from later he got a new
heart here. I mean, they're just doing new hearts here
like it's nothing. And then and these kids are living
these full lives and thriving.

Speaker 5 (32:56):
Yeah, It's like it's one of those things that you
never think will happen to you, and you prey doesn't,
but nobody has any control over And so this is
why you want to give back. You want to help
because it could really be anyone, and you want anyone.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
To have the best care. I cannot that is probably
that is the worst nightmare as a parent.

Speaker 5 (33:14):
I can you know definitively say, and you just you
don't know what's gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
To you, and it does, and then you want a
place like Lurry.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Yeah, which is why it's important to donate. Eight eight
eight eight three one seven seven three three is a
number to call operators Jasoner standing by.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
They are They're right there ready to answer your call.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
Yeah, Lurry Children's dot Org Class Radio Thought. And then
you can text the word luriy if that's easier and
you're not driving. Don't please, don't like do anything dangerous.
L u r ie to three four nine eight four
to receive a link to donate, and yes, we would
love to. Next hour, we would love to have one
hundred people sign up to do a monthly donation of
twenty bucks a month, which again I know, I mean,

(33:52):
I'm not. I don't say this like giving money and
twenty bucks a month is nothing because I know that
it's not. However, it's sixty seven cents a day. I mean,
you truly could be saving a child's life. But whether
it's a dollar or five or ten, every single dollar
counts and makes a difference. And we would love for
you to make an impact today because the need is great.
The demand for high quality children's healthcare in times of injury,

(34:13):
illness or treatment is great. These are obviously very stressful
times for families, especially those caring for their ill or
injured child. And we've talked about heart transplants. I mean,
we're going to talk about cancer treatment this morning. I
mean yeah, and you sure. I mean basic things too,
like if your kid gets injured, you want he or
she to have the best care. They do it all

(34:34):
here at Ard Children's Hospital. It's a world class organization.
Not every city has one like this, and we do.
But I think part of that is to support it
and make sure that it continues to thrive. And we
can do it with your health this morning. The goal
is to raise over a million dollars. And as you know,
I'm very competitive. I would like, you know, our show
to be the show that raises the most money. The
thirteen are the most mighty of any of these. I

(34:56):
don't know the other people. These people have listeners, these
other things.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
It don't matter because ours are the best.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
No, It's true.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
And I was gonna say, like, where's our rich listeners
and come on, y'all hang up.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
And I say this, you know, in all sincerity, but
you guys, you step up, whether we ask you to
or not. For everything that we do. I mean, you
guys give donations to things that we support that we
don't ask you to do. You show up to stuff
that we don't necessarily anticipate or ask you to do.
And this is the one time of year that we're
actually asking for the support because it means so much
to all of us. I think each of us have
a different connection to this, But this is something that

(35:31):
I've wanted us to do, you know, for a number
of years. And I'm so glad that iheard has stepped
up and you know, sort of dedicated the whole day
and all of our resources to making it possible. But
last year was over a million. I think the year
before was what like maybe seven hundred. Yeah, and then
we hit a million last year And and d gets
text from me all afternoon going, hey, how much Like
it's her job to raise more than last year. But

(35:53):
I'm I text her like hourly and Jason like how
much do I need to come back? How much?

Speaker 7 (35:58):
You know? Like?

Speaker 1 (35:59):
Who who do I need to Who are we gonna
need to beat up on a little bit? Who do
I need to send Kiki out right? I'm going to
get to the bag.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Yeah, especially for radio upon and every year the bag
gets bigger and bigger.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
So we need over a million dollars this year.

Speaker 5 (36:13):
I mean these days, twenty dollars a month is that's
less than a drink at the bar.

Speaker 1 (36:18):
I hate kind it, but it's true.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
So don't have one drink at the bar, you know,
cut yourself off at however.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
Many or two visits to you know, get fancy coffee, like, right,
I know we love the fancy coffee. But I mean,
if you if you didn't do it twice, right, And
I don't want to get any I'm not sure. I'm
not supposed to say this, but I'm sure there's tax
deductions here and things that can benefit you too, So
I'll ask your CPA about that. I'm not licensed to
give this kind of advice.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Or be a good human mind.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Well, but let's fade what's in it for you?

Speaker 3 (36:46):
You know, that is where we live.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Look, I don't I don't care how you look at
It doesn't matter whether it makes you feel good, whether you're.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
Trying to stop sports betting for one month, whether there's.

Speaker 1 (36:55):
Some sins in the past that you need to overcome,
you know, whatever it is, this is something, so yeah, right, exactly,
or whether you're just a good person. You know which
is on the list right, it's last on the list.
Whatever it takes, if it makes you feel good, do it, Okay,
Fred Show, We're live. It's a Lurry Children's Hospital this
morning at Lurry Children's. We are we are in the place.
We are here, Yes, one of three five Kiss FM

(37:18):
Sonya Blakeley is here from Inspiration thirteen ninety. I had
a question for her, come here, come here. I don't
know if you can hear me. So you are on
the Inspiration thirteen ninety stations. Yes, I think that you
have an unfair advantage when it comes to the fundraising
because you've got.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
God, you know, forgot on your side. You always win. Well,
we have tapped into the holiness.

Speaker 1 (37:38):
Well that's we're trying to win, you know. And so
you no, no, you can help us.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
But here's the thing. For all of our stations. I
pray for you. I pray for everybody. So it's going
to be a win across the board.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
Do you pray for me regularly because it would be
helpful that I need to.

Speaker 7 (37:55):
Ye.

Speaker 3 (37:57):
I love you, I love you forever.

Speaker 1 (38:00):
I love you too. Prayers, I love you too, But
if you could embrace them, you know, if if it's
once a day, we could twice would be cool.

Speaker 3 (38:07):
Hey, I'll make sure I go on Benditney for you.

Speaker 1 (38:09):
Thank you, oh oh man that I appreciate that, and
thank you. I just wear my brain and I need
more prayers to thank you. You are the best. But
I do think she has an unfair advantage. Yeah, she's
off to a huge start. I think she's already she's
personally raised. She and God eighty four million dollars. Yeah,
and I don't know, so I don't know who's got
more power.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
Trying to catch up.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
Inspiration thirteen nine year Melissa Former with the Christmas music.
I'm not sure which one it is, but when we
got cheat codes abound and I'm upset about it. Okay, anyway,
that you are the best, thank you, You're a good sport.
I don't even know if she's on to come on
this radio station because we're not Yeah, we're not worth
the rules today, no kill, no, we're no rules whatsoever.
We'll be back in just a minute, but we're taking

(38:49):
donations all morning, thirteen hours, trying to raise over a
million bucks today. I know that we can do it
eight eight eight eight three one seven seven three three
Leary Children's that organ slash radio. Don Also, I want
to thank my man and Will at Darvin Furniture because
we got a whole new like kind of setup over here.
Behind us. We get like a green room for the
families who are coming on. He brought a couch in

(39:10):
and we are relaxing over there and the people are
loving it. Will is a very thoughtful, community oriented guy,
and so he went and got the nicest couch and
he brought it in here and people are just posted
up over there, so.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
Big, it's so comfy. There's Christmas decord that's a giant nutcracker.
It's like a little living room here. Yeahusy Yeah.

Speaker 1 (39:26):
But every time I see Will from Darvin, and this
is a true story, I'm not actually for once, I'm
not besessing. Every time I see him. He asked me
how he can help something that we're doing, you know,
how he can put money towards something that we're doing.
How he wants to be, you know, as much of
a part of the Fred Show in our community efforts
as possible. And Darvin of course the community store. You know,
people grew up buying furniture at Darvin and continue to.

(39:46):
And I think one of the reasons why people are
so loyal is because they continue to invest in the community.
And my man Will very famous guy. You see him
on TV all the time. From what I understand, he
can hardly walk around his community. It's hard. It's hard
to be Will.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yeah, when that famous.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
I mean, Kanda was in one Darvin commercial one time,
and she can't walk down the street. It's wild.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
Yeah, But they're all just asking me where Will is?

Speaker 1 (40:11):
What do you think it's like to be me? People
just want to know where Cana and Keiki and Jason are.

Speaker 3 (40:17):
We only travel in a past.

Speaker 1 (40:19):
No, It's true, it's like, where's Kiki? I don't know,
she doesn't live with me in the car. But we're
gonna be doing this all day and all morning, and
you're gonna hear some really inspirational, incredible stories too. So
you know this is not a doom and gloom kind
of thing. This isn't you know, We're not here to

(40:40):
I mean, we are kind of here for the hard press,
but but honestly, this is an inspirational well I mean,
I'm I'm I'm saying whatever you do and stop and
donate right now. That's aggressive, it's an order. Yeah, I'm
being aggressive this morning, but it's for a good cause.
And you're gonna hear why throughout the morning and throughout
the day as we talk to these families. It's the
Fred Show. We're live at Luriy Children's Hospital. The number
to donate eight eight eight eight three one seven seven

(41:02):
three three. We're back. Wait wait, and you know there
are a lot of hot threads. I don't know if
there are red.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
My song was kind of fine.

Speaker 4 (41:20):
Oh yeah, he was I like a man that go
to work. Yeah, he beat him at his feet on
the grounds.

Speaker 3 (41:26):
You get there. You know that's hot.

Speaker 1 (41:28):
Fred's show is on. We need to listen to that
one was okay, but I got to make that well.
I listened to which ones we're playing.

Speaker 4 (41:36):
This boy shut outs all the men this going to
work and got money that can donate to the right sign.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
Yeah, you tell him, you tell him how to do it.

Speaker 13 (41:42):
I love him.

Speaker 8 (41:43):
Man.

Speaker 4 (41:43):
They put his bootstone, go to work and that donates.
You know the men that text lurry to three four
nine A four and they sign up to be twenty
dollars monthly givers that's my favorite kind of man.

Speaker 6 (41:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (41:54):
Yeah, because you're technically still single. Well, yes, so you
could be purchased for the right amount of well for
the right don't nation of the children.

Speaker 4 (42:01):
Well, if you just come on and break this million
dollar go we're trying.

Speaker 3 (42:03):
To reach, you can definitely purchase me for that.

Speaker 1 (42:05):
Okay, what kids? Wow? How selfless of you children?

Speaker 15 (42:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (42:10):
Wow, I mean whatever it takes, whatever it takes, I
would do the same, I said. Mary Francis is here
from jewl Loisco. Mary Francis is questioning why she chose
to come on every year we do this.

Speaker 3 (42:20):
I love this. I never question any of your program is.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
She's the owner of Jewlasco. She's the biggest deal at Jewlasco.

Speaker 3 (42:28):
I'll let our president know that.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
Yes, Hey, I don't see him or her. I don't
hear she. I don't see this person here. I see
you every single year with a big fat check. But
I know you. You are are a very important person
in the organization. And you come on our show and
then you go over to a Melissa Foreman and it's
a very different experience, isn't it when you go on
light f that than when you're on this thing.

Speaker 7 (42:47):
It is.

Speaker 3 (42:48):
There's a lot of different language that I use here.

Speaker 1 (42:50):
Yeah, and Mary Francis, she listens to our show, And
I don't know. I want to believe that you're really
the listener that you say that you are, But it
would be very smart of you just down and then
tell us the things that you've heard recently to make
me feel like you listen.

Speaker 16 (43:04):
I really am a listener. And then, but some of
your dating stories, I get anxiety in the car and
I have to turn it off because I can't take it.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
I don't know why we were doing so well. Don't
turn it off completely off.

Speaker 3 (43:16):
It's not because of you, guys. It's some of these stories.
I'm like, what is happening out there?

Speaker 1 (43:20):
Yeah? And I ask you every year you've been married
twenty years or something?

Speaker 3 (43:23):
No, ten ten?

Speaker 1 (43:24):
I was halfway there.

Speaker 3 (43:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (43:27):
And so on the worst day, you must think like, well,
it could be like this, you know what I mean, Like,
I'm a happy my husband made me angry today, but
I also could be dealing with these morons.

Speaker 3 (43:35):
Well that's that's true. But I'm like, I really haven't
had a worst day. I'm not lying to you.

Speaker 1 (43:40):
Oh, here we go.

Speaker 3 (43:41):
I got it. I've got a great husband.

Speaker 17 (43:42):
Tom.

Speaker 3 (43:43):
I'm not lying to you. He's truly like a Jemmy
jum Oh. He doesn't buy love, and it's crazy.

Speaker 1 (43:50):
I buy love. I don't buy the cloud in the sky.
Everything's so perfect.

Speaker 3 (43:54):
But you got it.

Speaker 1 (43:56):
I believe you.

Speaker 3 (43:56):
I think it kind of picky. People used to tell
me that, and.

Speaker 1 (43:59):
Then I was like, you know that, I was picking
people used to tell you about I know that.

Speaker 17 (44:03):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (44:03):
I was way too picky.

Speaker 16 (44:04):
And I was like, you know, the news, just calm down,
and I was like, you know what, I just need
to like to I need to take my what's the
word I'm looking for?

Speaker 3 (44:11):
I just need to expand it's okay out there.

Speaker 18 (44:13):
And I did.

Speaker 1 (44:14):
But you were and look what you found.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
Yeah, and Wels, I say, every year, sant Ane, sant Anne,
find me a good man. Oh yeah, yeah, do you
know what I said that last year? And I'm engaged.
Man all right, Fred needs a good man.

Speaker 1 (44:30):
Santanne, find me a good woman. I don't know, does
roll off the tongue as well?

Speaker 3 (44:34):
Congratulations, Thank you.

Speaker 1 (44:35):
Yes, a lot has happened since you were here last
but you you were here with us every year for
the Lyard Children's Radio Thought. And and while we are
very unprofessional at this very moment, we uh we well,
that's what people have come to expect from us. And
so now for this value of entertainment, which is very
high value, we need people to donate because Mary Francis,
if they do, if we get two hundred monthly donors

(44:57):
at twenty bucks a month this hour, then you come
in with one hundred thousand dollars from Jewel Losco. Yes
we do, Yes we do, which are getting as close
to that million bucks, you know what I mean? Right?

Speaker 3 (45:07):
And you know what, think about it.

Speaker 16 (45:08):
Kids are our future, whether it's you know, it's any
business or certainly for Jewel Losco.

Speaker 3 (45:12):
There are futures.

Speaker 16 (45:13):
So you have to think about this stuff, and especially
here for LORI Children's Yeah.

Speaker 1 (45:17):
And the way to do it is to call and
you can hear people clapping that that's real. That means
people actually donate it. We don't like have a no
you know, there's no laugh track. Yeah, yeah, no, absolutely not.
Eight eight eight eight three one seven seven three three
is the number to call LURI Children's dot org slash
Radio Thought. You can also text the word luriy l
U ri I E three four nine eight four to

(45:38):
receive a link to donate. And you guys are really
committed as a bunch of organizations that we have here
to this morning. Are you're really committed to the community.
And this one hundred thousand dollars is no small feed?
Why is that important to Jewel Losco?

Speaker 9 (45:48):
You know what?

Speaker 16 (45:49):
We it's because of our customers. We are the largest
grocery retailer. As I tell you every year we have
one hundred and eighty nine stores. Almost if we have
one hundred and ninety, we're building one in Chestertown, Indiana.

Speaker 3 (45:58):
And you know what, it's a thing thank you to
our customers because they're so good to us.

Speaker 16 (46:02):
So why wouldn't we be And I don't know if
you've noticed how many activations we've done. We celebrated one
hundred and twenty five years two years ago. We did
this year, had a huge amount of giving back to
the community with the gravy boat, friends giving, and we
did moments and all that stuff. So we just remained
in the community. That will never ever change. And next year,
in twenty twenty six, you're going to see even more stuff.

Speaker 3 (46:20):
And more chicken. Honestly, and more exactly, and more chicken
exactly and.

Speaker 1 (46:24):
More Jellis session is just elite. It's elite, surely is
now why have we not just gone ahead and changed
the name to jewels? Like what we didn't put the
S on the end, because that's what we were talking
this morning, Like people think this place is called Lurri's.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
It's our culture.

Speaker 1 (46:37):
It's a Midwestern thing, just to add the S. So
I think they should change the name. Let's just call
it Lurries because that's what people call it. Uh, Mary Francis,
they call it jewels. Let's go ahead and pull the
quick on.

Speaker 16 (46:46):
We can't because we can't leave out Oscar. We love Oscar.
And then it's like me dropping Frances and just calling
me Mary. No Clarrie Francis, what about jewels?

Speaker 1 (46:54):
Osco someware I'll put there, I guess. Thank you so
much for your generosity of always. One last thing I
have to discuss with you is Jojo there is a
one eyed Why does scare this? What I mean? Why?

(47:14):
So I let me describe it? If you've never seen
this before, and it's an issue for me every year?
You Losco boy, it's a mascot and it's this. How
let me describe it? It's a red sort of The
only word I can come up with is not appropriate
for a radio thumb. But it's like a rounded red
sort of blob the hairy, furry, one eyed cyclops looking

(47:35):
for crap top. I gotta understand how that represents the brand?
Can you tell that is our brand?

Speaker 7 (47:42):
Now?

Speaker 16 (47:42):
I mean people hugely popular Jojo. Everybody wants a photo
except you Fred Jojo.

Speaker 3 (47:47):
Because everybody wants He was torking the step and repeat
it like I don't.

Speaker 2 (47:52):
Know as he should?

Speaker 3 (47:53):
Yes, an icon Jo going nowhere?

Speaker 1 (47:57):
No, I'm not suggesting. I'm not saying that Jojo should
go anywhere except maybe not close to me. But and
there's a tongue in a mouth? Now is it the
lowest total plurns? It has to be Jojo?

Speaker 6 (48:08):
Like?

Speaker 1 (48:08):
How does that work? In the office?

Speaker 3 (48:09):
People are fighting to be Jojo? Are you kidding me? Fighting?
We could? We could get yo Jojo costume at one.

Speaker 1 (48:14):
Point, Yes, I think if you got me a Jojo
costume Halloween all legs at the Holland at the Holliday
jingle Ball. Yes, Jojo. Okay, I'm here with that.

Speaker 2 (48:25):
Mary, We're going to work on that for twenty twenty sex.

Speaker 1 (48:27):
Yes, we got to get Yojo that Garry Francis for
a fee. I've been known to do many things. You
keep that in mind.

Speaker 2 (48:34):
We reached the million dollars today before you.

Speaker 1 (48:37):
I'll tell you what if we hit if we break
our record from last year, I'll do something with this costume.
I don't come on people, I don't know, but we
need to bring donate. That should be some form of incentive.
I think maybe not, but I think people would love
for me.

Speaker 3 (48:51):
I'm going to go donate.

Speaker 16 (48:52):
Honestly, Is this show recorded because I don't want to
hear you say that you never said that.

Speaker 1 (48:56):
I never said that, but any but hey, we have
it on record.

Speaker 2 (48:59):
Don't worry, Mary, we.

Speaker 1 (49:00):
Break the record, so we need seventy. Right, so we
need that we already. That's amazing actually because we're looking
for two hundred now, we just need seventy. We could
absolutely do this. The deal was not this hour. The
deal is the whole day, Mary, Fred, don't give fancy
jewelasco all right, Fred, whatever goes on in your mind
figures plus that's how much it costs for me to

(49:22):
dress up like a furry Okay, you know what.

Speaker 16 (49:25):
Listen, I want to see you here. You got Jojo
and you and the whole team on a boat. Do
something aatd we get on a boat. People people love both.
You had a boat.

Speaker 1 (49:41):
Something? What am I doing here?

Speaker 16 (49:43):
That's nice promotion. Listen, our JoJo's gravy boat did really
well on the railway.

Speaker 5 (49:47):
That party would be lit, right. Can we bring the
gravy and the chicken and Jojo h the boat?

Speaker 1 (49:53):
Can There's an idea here? There's an idea here. I'm
thinking like diplow boat, gravy, some of this stuff from
the deli case. Yeah, yo, Joe bread show. We can
make it happen. You will, Wow, let's do it. I
don't know where the boat is. That's an elevated idea.
I like how you think I do. You're always my
favorite when you stop by. We are live at believe

(50:16):
it or not, we're live at Lari Hospital this morning.
You are more than welcome and we really appreciate your
one hundred thousand dollars and so we need it, says seventy.
I think we maybe updated that slide. Yeah, Aaron is
not paying attention. Aaron is our hand.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
But Aaron is really, where's your white Aaronson's.

Speaker 3 (50:36):
Having a power struggle with Aaron a white board.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
Put a shot collar on me. He's got whistles. I mean, oh,
we're back to seventy. Okay, seventy still seventy yeah, okay,
I don't think that's right, Aaron.

Speaker 5 (50:47):
But but the number, dear shout out to Adam, Francis
and Thomas by the way, because they all donated monthly.

Speaker 1 (50:56):
So yeah, yeah, excellent, thank you, which is amazing. Twenty
bucks is not nothing, But to Caitlin's point, that's one
fancy drink at one fancy.

Speaker 8 (51:04):
Bar somewhere less than that, probably with tax, with tax,
and chip way over it chilled martini right right right,
sixty seven cents a day. And to do it eight
eight eight eight three one seven seven three three Luri
Children's dot Org, slash radio thun or text to word
lurry three four nine eighty four to receive a link
to doing it. You would think I would have this
memorized by now, but I don't.

Speaker 2 (51:26):
No, sixty two more, you guys, sixty two dollars wait
to look alive.

Speaker 5 (51:30):
I like it, right, and I'm looking at you sports betters,
so I'm looking at myself as well.

Speaker 3 (51:35):
But if you played fantasy. Yeah, I'm speaking for my culture,
my community.

Speaker 1 (51:38):
See where we're going with.

Speaker 5 (51:39):
If you can well, if you can dish that much
money out, I'm talking to you, have a air Paulina's husband,
because if you can dish that money out on all
those leagues, you can dish a little cut, a little
something off for the kids.

Speaker 3 (51:49):
Okay, yeah, knock it off. Actually yeah, I like it.

Speaker 1 (51:53):
I like it. Ey job Kaylen way to appeal to
the Heathens man like really, well that's my department. I
got you. I mean, you know, far right right, drink
halfeen right, gambling, Yeah, you're going on THHC. But anyway,
don't give us started.

Speaker 3 (52:09):
That's next hour, that's an hour hour.

Speaker 1 (52:12):
Sorry, taking my power him. So we need you to
donate so we can get one hundred thousand dollars from jewelasical.
Mary Francis, thank you.

Speaker 14 (52:19):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (52:20):
Always a treat to be with all of you every year.

Speaker 1 (52:22):
Jewel Loscos. We just changed it. We did it, and
I'm not going to charge you for that. Marketing advice.

Speaker 2 (52:28):
Hi, I am Lindsay, Hi am Peter.

Speaker 13 (52:30):
This is our daughter Olivia's journey with Lurry Children's.

Speaker 19 (52:34):
Our daughter Olivia was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on
September thirtieth, twenty twenty four. When I first heard that word,
you know, our our doctor was like literally crying or
her Pegatrisher was crying on the phone as he's telling.

Speaker 2 (52:49):
Us all I'm thinking this whole time, I'm going to
lose my baby.

Speaker 1 (52:54):
She was crime.

Speaker 12 (52:58):
I like a doozho.

Speaker 20 (53:06):
When we first heard that Olivia had leukemia, and I
looked at Peter and there was no question of where
we were going. We definitely wanted to head right down
to Larry Children's. We met doctor Lee actually in the
emergency room, and everything was so overwhelming.

Speaker 4 (53:26):
At that time.

Speaker 20 (53:27):
It was before Olivia even had her biopsy, before she
had her port placed, and Doctor Lee was so great
at explaining everything to us. She backed everything by talking
to us about research and just how far research.

Speaker 15 (53:40):
Had come and how Olivia was going to beat this.

Speaker 19 (53:44):
You know, we grew up at a time that leukemia
was a really really taboo word, taboo in a sense
that like it wasn't a good prognosis. And doctor Lee
sat with us and she was so confident, We've got this,
she's on their control.

Speaker 2 (53:59):
She's the best hands At home, we.

Speaker 15 (54:04):
Talk about Nurse Harper often.

Speaker 20 (54:06):
That's Olivia's nurse that she has each time we come
to Lurry Children's. They've built a really incredible bond. When
you ask Olivia at home, who's your best friend, she
won't say mom or dad, she says Harper.

Speaker 1 (54:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 19 (54:20):
The nurses really built that bond with her, and they
treated her like she was their own family.

Speaker 7 (54:27):
And the.

Speaker 19 (54:29):
Specialist there that they provide resources for financial help for parking.

Speaker 20 (54:36):
They booked us accommodations close to the hospital so that
when Olivia did have those planned heemos days, they made.

Speaker 3 (54:43):
Sure that our family could stay.

Speaker 20 (54:44):
Closer together that we didn't have that two hour drive
in traffic. If I were to talk to somebody right
now who is choosing Luri Children's, I would tell them
not to hesitate. We've gotten so much support from the
staff from other families it has made a really scary
diagnosis manageable. And I would also tell them to definitely

(55:06):
take one step at the time. Her treatment won't end
till February seventh, twenty twenty seven, but she hasn't missed
a beach. She begs us to go to ballet on Saturdays.
And she is also starting preschool, so we're really excited
about that.

Speaker 19 (55:22):
She wants to be a three year old. She wants
to go dance, she wants to go play in the playground,
she wants to jump around with us.

Speaker 1 (55:27):
This there.

Speaker 2 (55:28):
Hopefully as we get in this maintenance space.

Speaker 11 (55:31):
Your generosity is helping countless children throughout Chicago.

Speaker 9 (55:34):
Land again and we can have the kicks.

Speaker 11 (55:37):
Thank you so much. This is the Lurie Children's radiothon
on one oh three five Kiss That Them.

Speaker 13 (55:44):
Mary Go from May Thank.

Speaker 1 (55:46):
You for Katie Perry sings that to Justin Trudeau each night.

Speaker 2 (55:53):
I love them together. I don't know why.

Speaker 1 (55:56):
It's giving a Canadian dream.

Speaker 2 (55:57):
Isn't it. Yes, you love it, so you should be
all about this.

Speaker 1 (56:01):
I do I love I love Canada. I do Toronto. Yeah,
there you go. It is a French show one o
three five Kiss FM, Chicagos number one hit music station.
The photographer really wants us to look at her.

Speaker 3 (56:12):
Hey stop, it's a.

Speaker 1 (56:15):
Radio broadcast live at Luri Children's Top bill. It's our
annual radio thought. We'll stop, We'll just stop talking about
It's fine, but we're raising money for luriy Children's which
is an asset to our community. It's really an asset
to the world because you've got people coming from all
over the world to get treatment and it's here. And
so if you're listening and you live here, I hope
that you never have to come. I hope your kids
never get sick, but if they do, then this is

(56:36):
exactly where you would want to go. And it's why
it's so important that we support the cause. Eight eight
eight eight three one seven seven three three is the
number to call to donate LURI Children's l u r
i e Children's dot org, slash radio thought. You can
also text the word lury l u r i E
too three four nine eight four and receive a link
to donate. And what we're looking for this hour is

(56:57):
two hundred monthly donors bucks a month. You sign up,
they bill you automatically. You're a monthly partner sixty seven
cents a day. I don't say it like it's nothing,
but it would make such a big difference. And if
we get two hundred people to do that, then jewel
Osco Is giving us one hundred thousand dollars towards our
million dollar plus goal that we have. Yes, And we

(57:18):
just asked d from Luriy how it's going, and she
said it's going. Yeah. No, she's deadpan, and I know
that this is a big deal and she doesn't want
to get ahead of herself. I don't know what that means.
I don't know if it's going means it's going marvelously
or if it's going means that we need more phone calls.
But I don't think it would hurt to have more
phone calls. No, there's there's no limit. The limit doesn't exist.

(57:39):
We need more phone calls. No, so call now, and
any amount of money is helpful to us. Eight eight
eight eighty three one seven seven three three A dollar
five dollars ten forty thousand.

Speaker 3 (57:51):
I'm looking at you.

Speaker 5 (57:52):
If you guys get manicures, peedicures, do your nails at home, Okay.

Speaker 1 (57:56):
I mean it's a little krusty for one month.

Speaker 3 (57:58):
Yeah, Like it's just for one eyebrows. You can go
a month without a.

Speaker 1 (58:02):
Couple of months, yeah, I like Jamie in Kenosha and
Jake and Jerome and Hayley and Eric. Here's the thing.
I guess when they take your donation on the phone,
they write it down and then they circle which station.
And I gotta be honest with you, we got a
lot of spots empty where we could fill it in.

Speaker 7 (58:19):
Here.

Speaker 1 (58:19):
I would love for someone to hand me a full
sheet of people who listen to The Fred Show who
donate to Larry Children's Hospital. And again, you know, you
guys are generous and kind to us all year, but
we very rarely, if ever ask you for money except
for this one day a year, and we're asking today
for a donation to Larry Children's Hospital. Also, we got
the sweetest a note to our our Fred Show Instagram

(58:44):
and I think this went to all of us too,
but it says from Cameron, Hi, my son Cohab has
been at Luri in the nick you since birth, born
on April twenty ninth. I noticed that you guys were
there today. My wife and I are a huge fan
of fans of you guys. We can't be there this
week because my wife has caught COVID. If possible, would
you guys pay CoA a visit in fourteen twenty nine

(59:04):
in the NICKU. He loves the attention. It would make
my wife really happy. I immediately showed this to Kaylin
because this is right up Kaylin's alley, and we are
negotiating with the people because it requires negotiation. Are there
are powers of being? We have to talk to people,
but we I believe we have access now well, CoA.

Speaker 5 (59:22):
Is very famous, so yes, I had to talk to
his people. However, it is happening. I tried to leave
immediately when we got the message, but Fred's that I
had to stay for a couple more hours.

Speaker 1 (59:31):
You did try and leave immediately, and normally they don't
let crazy childless women near the kilbrit In. This can't
remind me I'm.

Speaker 3 (59:39):
Gonna steal CoA. It's okay, it's.

Speaker 1 (59:41):
It's it's you are now you love Yeah, that's I
don't Nope, Nope, We're not going to do that. Sorry,
I'll just get a photo. Someone was telling a Joki joke.
It's that's not happening at all. Here you go, now,
I know, I know you love babies. I know you
you are. Are you aspired to volunteer here to hold
the babies? Which is an actual thing if you can

(01:00:02):
do it, And it's a mixedup of obviously an extensive
background process and you got to call mom and see
if you got vaccine that mom doesn't remember if you got.

Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
I was like, oh, I don't know if I got
that vaccine. Let me check.

Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
But I want to thank all the doctors and the nurses,
and I want to thank all the volunteers as well
who help out every single day and your support is
so important. Eight eight eight eight three one seven seven
three three luri Children's dot org slash radio thought. You
can also text the word luriy l u ri I
E to three four nine eighty four to receive a
link to donate. This requires all of my focus to

(01:00:34):
do this because there are people walking around. I mean,
this is add guys, like worst nightmare. Yeah, but there
is Olivia who's about to be on the show with
us in just a second. That's my friend. Now what
do you up said about Olivia?

Speaker 3 (01:00:45):
We're friends.

Speaker 1 (01:00:45):
Now, we're cool.

Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
I picked my nose too all the time.

Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
It's all good. But we're gonna talk to Olivia and
her parents in just a second, and I want you
to hear firsthand why this place is so special and
so amazing and so what Jason, I need a word
ordinary good thank you, because amazing is the one that
comes to mind, because it is. But we got the
actual thesaurus out. Yeah, uh huh, carries it around.

Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
We're in the ease now.

Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
Yeah good. We need different words. And it only got
a couple hours of our part left, so we got
plenty of work. Les aint good. We're back in just
a second. The Fred Show m Chicago's number one in
music stations. We're live at Lurid Children's Hospital this morning.
For the radiothon. The number to call the donate eight

Peter is now you're Olivia's dad.

Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
Correct.

Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
Olivia is the star, so you have a name, but
you're Olivia's dad. Olivia's three. Olivia needed to go to
craft services. She stepped away. Olivia is three years old
and she was in.

Speaker 2 (01:01:46):
A little bit of a deeper moment.

Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
She was hungry and she needed to go. I have
them all the time. No one caters to me, though,
but it's fine.

Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
People bringing this stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
No well, no, no one brings me up, but they
don't need to do that. These are professionals. I'm not
as fine. I can deal with myself. Welcome to the show.
And now you've been sending me videos now for a
couple of weeks. You've been you. At first, I think
you were I thought you were trying to beat me up. Yes,
at first, because it was a little bit a like
a like a wrestling undertone to the approach. And so
I did reach out to the authorities and ask, you know,

(01:02:15):
who is this man and why is he threatening me physically?
Right exactly? But then you you sent me a video
of Olivia, who is three, who has been a patient
it's currently still a patient Larry Children's Hospital, with an
incredible story that you're about to tell us. And she
said that she would not talk to me today, but
she would talk to Kiki. Correct But then she changed

(01:02:35):
her mind.

Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
Because you're here. She didn't expect you to be here.

Speaker 1 (01:02:40):
Then a minute ago she said she would talk to
me and she would not talk to you.

Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
We diva, I don't know what to tell you.

Speaker 1 (01:02:45):
We got something to eat. I got to tell you something.
She looks amazing and so healthy, and she's climbing around
and has so much energy, and I know you're you're
everyone's back now. So now we have at Lindsay and
we have Olivia, so Sophia as well, who's the older
sister at five years old. Kind of encapsulate the story here,
you know how this all started and where we're at

(01:03:08):
now with her.

Speaker 20 (01:03:09):
Yeah, So it started a few weeks before her second birthday.
She started walking with a limp randomly. As you can see,
she's wild. I'm out of ruth from walking down there
with her. But she's always been.

Speaker 3 (01:03:24):
Our wild child.

Speaker 20 (01:03:25):
So when she stopped walking or walking with a limp,
we were like, what's happening?

Speaker 3 (01:03:30):
Not her, No, this is not Yeah.

Speaker 20 (01:03:32):
We found she had an ear infection and so that
was treated, and then she started getting like random low
grade fevers on the antibiotic, and so our pediatrician.

Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
Was very quick to pull blood work and he called us.

Speaker 20 (01:03:46):
And he said, you know, I am ninety nine point
nine percent sure that based on her blood work that
she does have leukemia. And so you guys do need
to choose a hospital right now and go there now.

Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
Wow, So what is that like? Just pause right there
for a minute. I mean, what goes through your mind
when you get a news like.

Speaker 19 (01:04:07):
That, Yeah, I mean, I'll take that, because she kind
of just looked at at me because our doctor was like,
you know, you can go wherever you want, but we
have a hospital that's literally two minutes away from our house.
Like we could have walked to the hospital and brought
her there and the doctors like, you know, I would
have more access to her files and everything there if
you brought her there, but you could take her wherever

(01:04:29):
you want. And she looked at me and I said, no,
We're going to Larry's. And honestly, it's because of this radiothon.
We were evid listening.

Speaker 3 (01:04:36):
I think you messaged me and you were like, we're
choosing Laurie, and that's amazing. It's an amazing.

Speaker 19 (01:04:41):
Choice because of you, guys, and because of this radiothon
and the awareness you brought to what they're doing here
and how advanced they are with everything they are doing.
And that's made probably could have been the hardest decision
of our life of where to go so much easier,
Like we're going to Larry's, there's no question of it.

Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
So did you go into like fight mode as apparent
when you find out that your child's sicke. It's like,
because you can't be weak, right, because they need you,
and it doesn't really do any good. But I got
to think, just as a human, it's the worst possible
thing that could happen.

Speaker 9 (01:05:12):
Yeah, it really is, you know.

Speaker 20 (01:05:13):
I think when we found out, I just went into
like a state of shock. And you're right, it is
just like fight mode.

Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
You have no other option but to beat it.

Speaker 20 (01:05:22):
So I think that's kind of the minds that we have,
and we're like, you know what, we will do this
for her because we know she's got a long, wild
future yet her second child, she's gonna get a run
eating her cheese balls right now, screaming my name.

Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
So yeah, I think I read that you said something
that I thought because as a kid leukemia, people died
from leukemia. That was sort of like a foregone conclusion people.
It wasn't curable. It didn't seem I mean, I can
remember as a young kid raising money for leukemia. It's
a whole different story now, right, And the prognosis is
amazing for Olivia, right, absolutely.

Speaker 19 (01:05:54):
And you hit it right in the head there, you know.
The first thing that went through my head, and I
never said it out loud. But it was like, I'm
gonna lose my baby, because we grew up at that
time where that was such a like taboo word to
even say kin because it just wasn't curable and it
sounded like you were just gonna go through it. But

(01:06:15):
when we got here we met our doctor, doctor Lee,
she was just so confident that she was going to
beat this.

Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
It wasn't like, oh, you know, maybe you will, there's
a good chance that.

Speaker 19 (01:06:27):
She was like, she's gonna beat this. I love it,
We're going to go through the treatment. This is what
we're gonna do.

Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
She laid out our roadmap and she just totally flipped
my mind frame of how she was going to beat this.

Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
And so she's in remission.

Speaker 13 (01:06:39):
Yes, she's in remission.

Speaker 20 (01:06:41):
She actually hit remission twenty nine days into treatment, which
was amazing. But unfortunately, even if kids do reach that
early remission, they do still need to complete the full
leukemia treatment plan, which is a minimum of two years
and three months. She'll finish at about two and a
half years, so twenty twenty.

Speaker 1 (01:06:59):
Seven, and then the prognosis is that she grows up
just like any other kid. And I mean, I these
people and yeah, I mean She's roasted me for several
days now, so you know, it seems like everything is okay.
But and she's she's eaten seven donuts since we started.
I mean, she looks so energetic and so healthy and
has great color. I mean, I from from where we

(01:07:20):
started to where we are, I got to think it's
night and day.

Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
Absolutely yeah, one percent.

Speaker 20 (01:07:24):
We saw so many changes in her through treatment, and
now that we are we have intered maintenance. She's her
personalities coming through.

Speaker 5 (01:07:33):
Does she have a favorite nurse because I always love
to ask because I feel like the bonds are so special.

Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
Yeah, she does have a favorite nurse. That's Nurse Harper.

Speaker 20 (01:07:40):
And you know, the thing that we love about Harper
so much is that, you know, nurses go through so
much schooling, so much training to do the amazing things
that they do, but what Harper has can't be taught.
So it's really special to see her with Olivia.

Speaker 1 (01:07:54):
And then the last question I have for you guys,
And this will be an overwhelming day because you get
to talk to everybody about this over and over again,
and I'm so glad it's a good story and a
happy ending. But the hospital Luria Children, they sort of
they embraced the whole family, right, siblings and parents and all.
That tell me a little bit about that process, because
I don't think people think about that. You know, Olivia

(01:08:16):
gets sick and she's got a sibling, and you guys
have jobs and there's a lot that's going on. You know,
how do they sort of make it work for everybody?

Speaker 20 (01:08:23):
Yeah, so Sophia loves coming with us. She calls Lurie
children's vacation there.

Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
Well, I mean that really says something honest that you're
going to a hospital.

Speaker 20 (01:08:33):
Homes and floor twelve always has events and characters and
things happening. They have bingo on the TV. It's truly amazing.
They've also made a great effort to keep our family
close together when Olivia's been admitted into the hospital by
getting a hotel accommodation so Sophia could stay close to us.

Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
Yeah. I don't think people think about all the logistics
that come into this and the expense. And I mean
here you are trying to have the energy and uh,
you know, to keep her alive. And yet so where
are we going to stay, Where are we going to go?
How what are we gonna do with with everyone else
in the family. It's it's very complicated, yeah, absolutely, and
it's things that we never even thought we would have

(01:09:14):
to think about or needed to think about. And Laurie's
had the resources and infrastructure in place.

Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
To just be like here, yeah, we got we got you.

Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
It's amazing. Olivia. You're gonna say hi to me or not?

Speaker 20 (01:09:26):
You guys ahead a friend, Come on, give a shout
out to Nurse Harper.

Speaker 13 (01:09:30):
You want to say Hi Harper about yourself.

Speaker 6 (01:09:33):
Hi, have friend?

Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
There you go. Well, thank you guys for sharing your story.
It's very brave. I know it's probably not easy to
go back and think about that time, but then with
the outcome is so positive.

Speaker 13 (01:09:43):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:09:43):
And it's thanks to Larry Children's Hospital eight eight eight
eight three one seven seven three three. You're donating for
families just like this one Larry Children's dot org class
radio thontex So. We're Larry to three four nine eight
four to receive a link to donate. Thank you guys,
Thank you. Enjoy the donuts.

Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
We just need twenty five more our monthly donors, by
the way, nine minutes.

Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
And if we do that, then one hundred thousand dollars
from from Jewel Osco's as I changed, as I changed
the name The Fred Show. That's a version of that
song I've never heard before. But hey it's okay.

Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
Yeah, I had some razzle radio thon day.

Speaker 1 (01:10:17):
Yeah move, we need the energy, you know what I'm saying.
It's The Fred Show. Good morning, one O three five
Kiss FM, Chicagos, number one of music. Stacy. We're live
Atlyary Children's Hospital. It's our annual radiothon. The goal today
is to beat last year and raise over a million dollars. Oh,
Hawk is here. Hawk the therapy Dog is here. The
golden retriever I've ever been. Way more attention, Hi, Nancy,

(01:10:39):
Way more attention, Nancy.

Speaker 11 (01:10:41):
Move.

Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
Yeah, Nancy, with all due respect in the way of
the dog. He honestly the most famous, the most attention
of the entire morning is that Hawk the Therapy Dog
has arrived.

Speaker 3 (01:10:53):
Look at his boo.

Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
What a magnificent dog that is.

Speaker 2 (01:10:57):
Oh my god.

Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
Yes, but this is a These are kind of programs
that you're supporting when you donate to eight eight eight
A three one seven seven three three were raising as
much money as we possibly can for Larry Children's Hospital
in Chicago, which, as you can hear is a resource
that people are choosing, even among other hospitals in Chicago,
certainly in the country and the world. We need ten
more monthly donors and we have five minutes to do it.

(01:11:20):
Ten more monthly donors. If we do that, then Jewelasco
will give us one hundred thousand dollars on top of that,
which is going to go a long way towards our
million plus dollar goal. Today.

Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
Yes, I have to get it. Shout out to Ali,
she just donated that. I also got a message that
the gay Raj made a donation.

Speaker 3 (01:11:37):
So thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:11:41):
He really loves you.

Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
He was like, I just donated. I'm listening to you, guys.
I'm like, thank you for the first time you're listening.

Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
He is the best. What is the gay Raj actually
called Mike's Complete Auto Repair? And when how would one
reach Mike's Complete Auto rippick Facebook?

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
We don't have a real website. Oh if I want
to get on that, Yeah, somebody aka the gay rajah
ga dot com available I'm booking at right now.

Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
It might be, but not that we're trying to do.
Actually eight eight eight eight three one seven seven three three.
We gotta get to one hundred monthly donors twenty bucks
a month. If you can do that, then one hundred
thousand dollars from Jewel Lostco. We're doing this all day
today on all of the iHeartRadio stations. Again. The goal
is to raise over a million dollars. I know that
we're going to be able to get there thanks to

(01:12:29):
all of your support. We're back on the Fred Showny.

Speaker 13 (01:12:31):
I'm Aubrey. My brother Carter was treated at Lori Children's
Thank you for calling and donating to the Lori Children's Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:12:39):
Thon eight eight three, one seventy seven thirty three.

Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
Well up in the city.

Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
I actually do. I do have a verner from I
do have a burner?

Speaker 6 (01:12:49):
You do you do?

Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
I've never used it, but I have one.

Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
I know you was texting the show.

Speaker 1 (01:12:53):
Yeah I've been. No, I said, I here, that is
so hand. No, I say how terrible we are. Bred
Show is on Good Morning everyone, The Fred Show live
at Larry Children's Hospital, the eleventh floor. We're on the
it's the sky cafe floor, yes, Jason. It's our annual
Luried Children's Radio Thon. The goal is to raise more

(01:13:14):
than last year, which is seven figures over a million
dollars in thirteen hours, which sounds like an amazing amount
of money because it is. And it's all thanks to
your generosity to support this organization, which.

Speaker 2 (01:13:25):
Is ooh marvelous.

Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
Dude, we went over this. You're the word guy.

Speaker 2 (01:13:33):
I'm shifting tabs in my brain.

Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
No, I know, I just like fifty things in front
of the people walking by. You know, we've got dogs.
We've got Awkotherapy Dog, which is a gift from God.
This dog was made for this unbelievable. The kids love.
It's almost like and this is just one of probably
I don't know, hundreds of programs they have here to
support the patients at Larry Children's Hospital. But it's like

(01:13:55):
he knows that people who go up to and give
attention to. It's like it's a wild.

Speaker 2 (01:14:00):
Yes, dogs just feel that type of stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:14:02):
Yeah, it's like he can read the room and he's
a Golden Retriever's name is Hawk, and the kids love him.
And again with the childlife specialists and all the things
they do for the families, and it's stuff you don't
even think about that they handle around here to make
this process of healing as easy as possible. Let me see,
we got Marshall. We're talking about you. Remember Marshall last year, Marshall,

(01:14:25):
he big timed this in a lot of ways. And
this dude was weighing on a heart. He got the heart,
and he cruised by like any other kid, and I
didn't even realize, like he's grown so much in his color. Yeah,
he looks amazing. Yeah, I mean, it's like he's a
new kid. And it's just it's crazy for me to
wrap my brain around the fact that they what they're

(01:14:47):
able to do here and put a new heart in
him and give him an entire life. And I hope
that that's not something that as a parent you ever
have to endure. But if you do, and you can
hear me right now, then this is the place that
you would want to come to do that. And it's
not just hearts. They you know, cancer and so many
other different things that they treat here at a world
class level. And so I want to also shout out Marie,

(01:15:08):
who's stopped by, who's whose son is potentially awaiting a
heart transplant. It's possible and they're dealing with that right now,
but she wanted to come by and say hi and
h and said that she listens each morning and so
obviously wishing her the best, but you know, it's just
another example of and I said to her, I said,
look at look at Marshall. Who was you know walking
around him like that? Look he didn't look like that

(01:15:29):
last year and now he looks like any other little
boy growing, And with all the energy say with Olivia,
it's the stories here are absolutely incredible. So we need
your help to hit our million plus dollar goal today.
Eight eight eight eight three one seven seven three three
is a number Lury Children's dot orgs lass radiothon and
if you want a text, it's l U r I

(01:15:50):
E to three four nine eight four to receive a
link to donate. And this hour, thanks to NRG, they're
tripling all of the donations that we get from monthly
to owners. That's that's a really important thing for them
here at Lari Children's Hospital is the consistency of the donation,
which is why twenty bucks a month makes you a
monthly partner, which is just sixty seven cents a day.

(01:16:10):
And again I don't say that flippantly like it's not
a lot of money or it's not a big deal.
I think there are people who have been donating this morning.
Who twenty bucks means a lot, but they also know
that it means lots of these families, and so that
would be amazing if you could do that. I don't
know what Aaron look alive, buddy, look alike. Aaron is
our man of white this morning.

Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
Trimple power out up.

Speaker 1 (01:16:30):
I know it's triple, but I just I need the
accurate statistics. The trust that Aaron has instilled in us
is really something. Okay, so we need ninety one ninety
one new monthly donors. Yes, okay, sure we'll do it
ninety one. And then so there are six of what
six radio stations.

Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
Here, six stations thirteen hours from one goal.

Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
Jason, that's his that's his mantra. Today. All of the
iHeart stations have dedicated their programming today, our programming today
to this cause to raise all this money for Larry
Children's Hospital. And for some reason, though, the only the
only one of the shows that got supervision is US
and and else said, but I don't he's Melissa Foreman

(01:17:15):
who did not get supervision because nobody would.

Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
Dare's off the rails.

Speaker 1 (01:17:19):
Because you know, she's a legend on light FM and
I see you, Melissa Foreman over there with your Christmas music,
trying to beat us in the ratings. It's a cheat
code and I don't appreciate it. But she's amazing, and
I know that that actually light of f M because
of the Christmas music and the popularity. I know they're
going to help raise a ton of money for us.
But for some reason, Aaron from the hospital is supervising

(01:17:40):
this operation, and no one else has the babysitter.

Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
Right, And all of a sudden at ten o'clock when
Shelley comes in, he's going to disappear.

Speaker 1 (01:17:47):
He will. He'll go right back to being Aaron whatever
it is he does here. But I will notice it
as the hours have gone by, he's become a little
At first he was sitting here staring at me, and
now he's I think we built a trust and he
seems okay with what we're doing. Eight eight eight eight
three one seven seven three three And again, if you
can become a monthly partner for twenty bucks a month

(01:18:07):
and we get to you know this, the ninety that
we need remaining this hour, the NRG gives us will
triple those donations, which looks something like I don't know.
Twenty thousand dollars. It's a huge number. Another huge number.
We did get one hundred grand from Jewel Losco by
the way, last hour, which is amazing. Two lost goes.

Speaker 5 (01:18:25):
As I've changed this well, I want to shout out
to mister bow Ties because he will be donating to
l O r i E.

Speaker 3 (01:18:30):
S okay, So I just want to mention it's l
U r I E. There is no s. I know
we live in the Midwest. It's not Lori's. But thank you.
I hope you found the way to do. I will
send you the link. Mister bow Tie.

Speaker 1 (01:18:42):
Yeah, don't care how you spell it, as long as
we have your money. But if you are looking to
text to get the link, then we're willing to go
ahead and need to spell it correctly. L U r
i E. I don't care what you call it. I
want your but l U r i E Children's dot
Org slash Radio thon l U r I E is
the word to text the three four nine to eight
four to receive a link to donat and a bunch

(01:19:04):
of ourt of Yeah listeners the thirteen some.

Speaker 2 (01:19:07):
Of the thirteen we have bathroom donated. Today. We have
Selena from Chicago. She's given twenty five dollars a month.
We love you, girl. And we also have Kathleen from Elgin.
She came in with a cool three fitty battie yeah
read fifty breath fifty yep wow. Kathleen a queen and
a standing on business.

Speaker 3 (01:19:25):
Yeh wow, he love.

Speaker 1 (01:19:26):
Yeah, it's amazing. And you guys, you know, I've said
this every hour. You support us, whether we ask for
it or not, and we rarely ask for it, and
you guys do it anyway, whether it's you know, for
the animal rescue stuff, for all the different things that
we do. And today is really the only day that
we're asking for money from you because it's so important,
because it means something to all of us, as I

(01:19:47):
know it does to the community and to many of
you who have been you know, who's whose lives have
been transformed, your family's lives have been transformed by the
by the let's see miraculous. Caylen's shaking her head.

Speaker 3 (01:20:00):
Maybe highlight your next word and put it. And I
really impressed.

Speaker 2 (01:20:05):
I really liked miraculous because like, miracles really do happen here.

Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
You got Oh, it's true, It's true. The miraculous work
being done here. And if you weren't listening earlier this morning,
I tended to rely on the word amazing at the
radio thought every year, and I've decided that I need
to up my game, and so Jason's in charge of
the words this year, miraculous, yep and spectacular. Now we're
getting a little a haad and we still have two
hours of our show to know, So let's words the

(01:20:31):
next page. Okay, let's let's go ahead and have some
left here. But this does go on all day to
day show. Bischelley will be here next and she will
not have supervision, as Jason said, just us eight eight
three one seven seven three three speaking of Marshall, who
we had on last year, and if you recall, he's
sang High Hopes was his favorite song. He he big

(01:20:53):
timed us and he taught me about Bluie and some
other things. So yeah, oh my god, are we happening here?

Speaker 2 (01:21:01):
Hawk Hawk is ready for his interview.

Speaker 1 (01:21:04):
The therapy dog just jumped on our couch and if
only Hawk could talk to us.

Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
Hey, he's saying everything.

Speaker 1 (01:21:11):
Wait, wait today, can give Natalie a microphone? Give it
a microphone? Didn't we have microphones over there? What haded
did they take our microphones?

Speaker 3 (01:21:18):
Probably?

Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
So Natalie you are are you? You're not just the handler,
You're the owner of said hawk.

Speaker 6 (01:21:23):
Right.

Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
So I'm a.

Speaker 18 (01:21:25):
Certified CHILDLIGHTE specialist here, facility.

Speaker 3 (01:21:27):
Dog handler and also Hawk's mom. All three. Yeah, he
must be so proud. I am so proud.

Speaker 18 (01:21:32):
He worked so hard and he does. He makes such
a huge impact here at the hospital. We see it
every single day.

Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
So we're all animal people here and people think we're like,
woo woo strange. But I was saying before, and I
think you were somewhere else. But he seems to have
a knack for who he needs to pay the most
attention to. Do you notice that too? And I'm not crazy.

Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
They know you're not crazy.

Speaker 18 (01:21:52):
Even if I'm you know, talking to a coworker and
I'm starting to get a little stressed, I'll come over
and I'll just give me the paw sit on my
feet and like, II, mom, you seem stressed.

Speaker 1 (01:22:02):
Or he gravitates towards the patients too. It's like, you know,
he sees me and us and then he but then
he goes right to where he's needed.

Speaker 18 (01:22:08):
He knows exactly where he's meant to be, and he'll
find whatever patient needs him most and pull himself in
that room and get him exactly where he needs to be.

Speaker 3 (01:22:15):
To help out.

Speaker 1 (01:22:16):
When did you kind of sense that this was Hawk
the Golden Retriever's calling.

Speaker 18 (01:22:20):
Well, I actually got him from a company who trains
dogs to do this work.

Speaker 9 (01:22:23):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
So oh he wants a handshake my mom.

Speaker 18 (01:22:26):
About fifteen months old, he graduated his program and then
I picked him up and brought him here.

Speaker 1 (01:22:30):
Yeah, it's amazing and he has long hair, and I
think last year we talked about this. We're getting lots
of baths and all that stuff, right, yes, yeah.

Speaker 18 (01:22:37):
He gets a bath every single week and we big
events like this, we'll give him another wrath just to
make sure he's extra super clean.

Speaker 1 (01:22:42):
I noticed the Brazilian blowout today and get his flow.

Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
It's so fluffy. Yeah, he's groomed rightbulous.

Speaker 1 (01:22:50):
Yeah. Yeah, And so this is just one of what
are some of the other things as a childlife specialist
that you can think about the top of your head.
I mean, we're talking about the therapy dog program, but
what are some other things that people may not know
about that you guys would do, because I don't think
people think about anything but the healing that's happening here.
But then there's so many other sort of parts of
the process.

Speaker 18 (01:23:07):
Yeah, So as a childline specialist and with Hawk too,
we do a lot of preparing kids for different procedures
or upcoming things, things where they're feeling really vulnerable or afraid,
and we talk them through that, and we work through
that with them, make coping plans with them, and basically
just help them not to be so afraid of being
in the hospital and things like that, try to make
it a little bit more normal because obviously being in

(01:23:28):
the hospital is not a normal childhood experience. So anything
we can do to normalize the space and make sure
that they're not feeling so afraid to be here.

Speaker 1 (01:23:35):
Well, Natalie, thank you, and thank you Hawk. And Jason
now is trying to kidnap dog nap Hawk. He's not
going with you, dude, like he he might. I think
he loves his mom and I think he knows he
has a job to do. But Hawk is amazing. And
then for twenty bucks a month people can donate and
then we have these little Now how many dogs out

(01:23:57):
there have their own stuffed animal. I mean, this is
another level. But they have these little hawk stuffed animals
that they give to patients and for twenty bucks a
month you can help make that happen. They hand deliver
them to patients in the hospital, impatient, and I'm looking
at it's striking resemblance to the man.

Speaker 6 (01:24:12):
Right.

Speaker 5 (01:24:12):
And also for fifty you get a visit from Hawk
and seventy five you get.

Speaker 3 (01:24:16):
A visit from a childlife specialist. Right, So all amazing work.

Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
I love it. Eight eight eight eight three one seven
seven three threelyrich childrens that orgs class radio thought, l
U ri I E to three four nine eight four.
You can text that get a link to donate. And
again we're trying to get to again, what's Aaron doing?
You know Vana over there is He's not doing it.
But I think we're somewhere maybe like the eighty range.
We need eighty more people. I'm making it up. Now,

(01:24:42):
let's go with it. We'll go with eighty eighty more
monthly donors this hour at eight eight eight eight three
one seven seven three three twenty bucks a month, and
then NRG will triple match that this morning. Marshall. Oh boy,
let's see if he let's see if he's su big
for us this year, now that he has a new
hard you know, reflex than that, he'll be on the
show this out Living Laurie Children's Hospitals to Radio Saws.

Speaker 15 (01:25:05):
I am Jesse him Marshall. Marshall was born with hypoclassical
of heart syndrome, which basically means the left side of
the heart didn't grow in usual, so he has essentially
lived his whole life with just half a heart.

Speaker 13 (01:25:19):
I went to Laurie children for a heart transport. I
was in the hospital for two hundred and ninety five.

Speaker 1 (01:25:24):
Days, day after day, make on Monday.

Speaker 15 (01:25:31):
The wait is long and the weight is hard, and
there were moments were like I.

Speaker 12 (01:25:34):
Just wish I could take his place.

Speaker 15 (01:25:36):
I wish things could have been different, and I did
feel like it was never gonna end. On April twenty fifth,
doctor thresh And and he got to tell Marshall, which
I think was just really beautiful.

Speaker 13 (01:25:47):
I'm like shaking a butt and then I'm like this
came and I'm like I'm so happy.

Speaker 12 (01:25:52):
He was just so elated.

Speaker 15 (01:25:55):
He was like, it's here, It's here, the days finally come.

Speaker 7 (01:25:58):
I think it was really beautiful because I feel like
we waited and we waited, and we felt almost like
this it was our new norm.

Speaker 12 (01:26:04):
And I think to know that like stuffed and beautiful
precious gift.

Speaker 7 (01:26:07):
Had come was really really beautiful and I'm forever grateful
for a donor family. His old part was like little
red ball of goop, and his new heart was like
the what I considered the perfect heart.

Speaker 12 (01:26:23):
And to be given a gift like this, that's something
I can never repay. I'm so incredibly grateful.

Speaker 15 (01:26:31):
Since Marshall's gotten his new heart, he just really looks
like he's thriving.

Speaker 13 (01:26:37):
I recently finished summer and I'm in second grade.

Speaker 14 (01:26:41):
Now nothing can hold him back. He's even a little
bit more fasty than he was before. But I will
take that as well.

Speaker 15 (01:26:50):
I think Marshall's new heart has changed our lives in
a million ways, and I think that just.

Speaker 12 (01:26:54):
He's just gonna do really beautiful things.

Speaker 7 (01:26:56):
And I think Marshall was going to move mountains before
and now I just I cannot wait to seal the
beautiful LinkedIn you can do because I'm chose to.

Speaker 12 (01:27:04):
Johnny is a really really beautiful gift.

Speaker 14 (01:27:08):
My biggest goal for Marshall and through all of this
journey is that he just finds joy and everything he
does and whatever he is very unique and beautiful, this
heart and his new heart, and but the one beautiful
spirit he has to do whatever he wants. What I
would want to say to someone who is new to
LORII Children's is welcome home. LORI Children's is going to
be your family.

Speaker 1 (01:27:27):
Thank you for calling today for my son Aiden, and
thankful for Larry Children's.

Speaker 20 (01:27:31):
Because of them, my son is healthy today eight and
eight three one seventy seven thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:27:36):
Three oh three five Kiss FM, Chicago's number one in
music stage. We're live at Larry Children's Hospital for our
radiothon this morning, and I want to welcome my man Marshall.
What's up, dude?

Speaker 3 (01:27:47):
What's up?

Speaker 1 (01:27:48):
Marshall? Do you remember being on with us last year?
Just say yes, yes, yeah, and you were waiting for
a heart right yeah, did you get it?

Speaker 3 (01:27:58):
Yep?

Speaker 1 (01:27:59):
And you look like a new man, yep, a new man.
Jesse and Carolyn are here too. Good morning, Jesse. How
are you great? Think? And you look like a new woman.
This year.

Speaker 3 (01:28:08):
I feel so much better, so much lighter.

Speaker 14 (01:28:10):
You know, we all, we all were given the gifts
of a new life last year, well, I guess this
year in February, so it's been really, really beautiful.

Speaker 1 (01:28:17):
I hardly recognize him honestly now. Granted he's flexing with
a new haircut. Now you know, he's a man of
the people. He's out here, you know, charming the ladies
and everything else. You got a girlfriend, Marshall, he's thinking
about it, maybe.

Speaker 3 (01:28:29):
Just cracking up. Maybe Oh no, okay, no, smart man,
leave it open. Smart.

Speaker 1 (01:28:35):
Yeah, Carolyn, his sister, would you let him have a girlfriend.
Would you have to make sure that you liked her first?

Speaker 13 (01:28:39):
I have to make sure that that that she was
my friend first.

Speaker 1 (01:28:42):
Yeah, that's right. That's a good big sister.

Speaker 3 (01:28:46):
Yeah, I have all brothers. I feel you on that.

Speaker 1 (01:28:48):
So Jesse, for the people who maybe didn't hear the
whole story, a little bit of background on how we
got here and where we are now.

Speaker 3 (01:28:54):
Yeah, absolutely so.

Speaker 14 (01:28:55):
Marshall was born with hyperpastic left heart syndrome. How we
found out in Your Girl, and we met Our's team
prior to him being born. So we have always been
a Lori's family. Marshall's had five open heart surgeries, including
his transplant, and we have spent over four hundred days
at Lori Children's Hospital. The bulk of that was last year, though,
waiting for the perfect heart. We spent two hundred and

(01:29:17):
ninety five days waiting for our perfect heart. We lived
here during that time, and we're unable to go home.
And on February fourth, twenty twenty five, we received the
gift of life, a gift that not only changed Marshall's life,
but also ours. We are also incredibly blessed to be
able to live life with Marshall's brand new heart and

(01:29:42):
all of the medical stuff a little bit on the
back burner, which has been so incredibly beautiful, so so beautiful.

Speaker 1 (01:29:48):
How do you sort of moderate the feeling when you
hear that you're getting the heart that you've been waiting for.
I have to think it's like joy and then fear
all at the same time.

Speaker 3 (01:29:57):
Do you want to tell them how you feel? And
then I'll gomerc How did you, yeah, what was it
like when you found out you were getting a new heart?

Speaker 1 (01:30:01):
Marshall?

Speaker 13 (01:30:01):
Well, I thought happy and happy because well, I'm going
to get to go home and all those for the
stuff that said for my daughter.

Speaker 1 (01:30:09):
Too, oh oh oh wow? But for what for the donor?

Speaker 3 (01:30:13):
What donor is, Marsha, that is one.

Speaker 1 (01:30:16):
Of the most touching things I've ever heard that you
even would think about that. But as a parent, you
know it's you. It's a serious surgery, so you're fearful,
but then you know that it's likely going to go
well and change his life and make his life essentially.

Speaker 14 (01:30:31):
Yeah, So I will never forget. Marshall had decided a
couple of months prior to transplant that we were going
to get a blue balloon and hot wheels.

Speaker 3 (01:30:38):
Car the GT.

Speaker 14 (01:30:39):
Scorcher when we found out about his heart, like lay
in bed and chat and be like, do you think
tonight it's going to be the night?

Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
And we're like, oh, you know, who knows.

Speaker 14 (01:30:47):
But when doctor Thrush came in with those items, Marshall's
I've never seen so much joy. He stopped dead in distrects,
holding himself a rest Chrispy treat and screamed, what it's here,
It's here, Today's the day, and.

Speaker 15 (01:31:04):
It's a moment I will never forget.

Speaker 12 (01:31:08):
I think we just both knew.

Speaker 14 (01:31:09):
Marshall then ran over and gave me a big hug,
and I said to him, and it's gonna be so
much better, and we're gonna go home. And it was
just such the beautiful I guess, the beautiful end to
a very long journey. It has truly changed our lives. Marshall,
you know, went down to surgery. He was in surgery
for sixteen hours, the very very long sixteen hours for us,

(01:31:30):
but totally rocked it in the post that period and
discharged just ten days post transplant.

Speaker 1 (01:31:35):
That is crazy. A new heart and you went home
in ten days. What was it like to go home
for the first time in eight or nine months, however
long it was?

Speaker 13 (01:31:42):
Well, first of all, well Mom was like, well, I
was just on a call with Misspitty and and Mom's like,
and Mom, just hang up, and and she's like, hey, Marshall,
we can go home. And I'm like right now, and yeah,
I'm a glast cop.

Speaker 3 (01:31:57):
You ran out there.

Speaker 13 (01:31:58):
And then finally when we're almost to our house, I'm like, wait,
we forgot the pizza.

Speaker 3 (01:32:03):
Well you can't forget that. Do you still talk to
your friend that you made here that got her heart first?
Are you guys still in touch?

Speaker 9 (01:32:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:32:10):
Yeah, okay?

Speaker 6 (01:32:11):
Good?

Speaker 4 (01:32:11):
And when you went back to school, you had a
whole parade, right, you got to drive the Tesla truck.

Speaker 1 (01:32:16):
Yeah, that's pretty awesome.

Speaker 6 (01:32:18):
What was that?

Speaker 7 (01:32:19):
Like?

Speaker 14 (01:32:19):
You?

Speaker 1 (01:32:19):
That was fun?

Speaker 13 (01:32:20):
It was fun. There's like all sorts of things in there.
There's a dance party, like with the windows go and
guess what we made Mom do a fart with a
whoopee cushion. Yeah, and there's like videos and ar kids
in the back, so we could watch movies and play arcades.

Speaker 1 (01:32:39):
Now do you? You did me a big favorite last year.
I don't know if you remember, but you taught me
that Blue was a girl. I a silly guy. I
thought Blue was a dude, but you you corrected me.
And and now my nieces like I have credibility with
my niece. My nieces think I'm great now because I know.
And that's because of you. You did that. Man, What
are you gonna teach me this year? Teach? What are
you into right now? We're still into Legos.

Speaker 13 (01:33:00):
I'm Titanic?

Speaker 1 (01:33:01):
Oh wait, wait, hold on, wait you are I need
a minute here. You're into Titanic?

Speaker 15 (01:33:07):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (01:33:07):
Okay, what about it?

Speaker 1 (01:33:08):
Because so am I not what I expected?

Speaker 3 (01:33:11):
I you expect? Not that not not a tragedy. But hey, wait,
knows lots of good facts you can ask.

Speaker 1 (01:33:19):
Yeah, tell me what about Titanic is interesting to you?

Speaker 13 (01:33:22):
Ask?

Speaker 3 (01:33:23):
Because over what year did it sink?

Speaker 13 (01:33:25):
Yeaheen twelve Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:33:26):
That's correct.

Speaker 15 (01:33:27):
And where did it launch FROMA?

Speaker 13 (01:33:29):
From Southhampton, England?

Speaker 3 (01:33:32):
That is also correct.

Speaker 1 (01:33:33):
What is happening right now?

Speaker 3 (01:33:34):
Wait marshall, I'm obsessed with the Titanic too? Why are
we like this?

Speaker 1 (01:33:39):
Do you think Rose had room on the on the
door for Leonardo or not? Was there enough room or not?
You know, because she has saved his life or not? Man,
we're not showing him the movie yet, are So we
did and fast forward you fast forward? Okay, my parents
had to do that for me too. Uh there was
a part that we're not ready to talk about the
French girls. Yeah, okay, So Titanic that's your thing? Man,

(01:33:59):
have you put you have the lego Titanic, the big boat?

Speaker 6 (01:34:02):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:34:02):
We do have?

Speaker 14 (01:34:03):
It's oh listen, would they it's the mother in law
gave us a huge Titanic with like two thousand.

Speaker 3 (01:34:11):
Legos to do and it's a work in progress. But
it's not the right one. I mean, he wants this
huge one like.

Speaker 1 (01:34:16):
Oh yeah, yeah, no, we can't even do the one
that takes adults like a year to put Yeah.

Speaker 13 (01:34:21):
We're probably never going to do it.

Speaker 5 (01:34:23):
Well, get the first one done and then maybe we
can make the second one happen.

Speaker 3 (01:34:27):
Okay, you call us the Fred Show, and we might
be able to Okay, I have a feeling.

Speaker 1 (01:34:31):
There's someone out there who would be interested in that
to do something like that. But because I think it's
like eight million dollars. But hey, and we need the
first million for this place.

Speaker 3 (01:34:40):
First one.

Speaker 1 (01:34:41):
We'll get to that. What else are you into? Man?
I mean, I can't believe you look so good, you
have so much energy. I'm so happy for you.

Speaker 3 (01:34:47):
What sports do you play?

Speaker 13 (01:34:48):
I play basketball?

Speaker 6 (01:34:49):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:34:50):
Can you? Can you dunk with that new heart? Help?
But probably someday soon?

Speaker 17 (01:34:54):
Right?

Speaker 3 (01:34:54):
Are you still cooking? Cooking? You want to be a chef?
The last time we spoke, yeah, kinda?

Speaker 1 (01:35:02):
And is I hope? So your favorite song? Do you
have a new one?

Speaker 9 (01:35:05):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:35:05):
Sisters like, well, what's the new favorite song?

Speaker 7 (01:35:07):
Now?

Speaker 13 (01:35:08):
Thunder?

Speaker 1 (01:35:10):
Imagine dragons? All right, Pauline, you know what to do?

Speaker 3 (01:35:14):
Yeah, you know what to do.

Speaker 1 (01:35:17):
You're the only person in the history of this radio
station that can just on demand we play the song
that you want. Just boom do you know the words too.

Speaker 13 (01:35:24):
I don't want to sing it all right.

Speaker 4 (01:35:26):
You know what I mean, Carolyn, I want to sing
with Carolyn.

Speaker 1 (01:35:34):
You go to You can't put the man on the spot.
I mean, he's you know, he's very much in demand
and he's not into it. But hey, I'm so happy
for you, Marshall and Carolyn. Uh. And I'm sure you're
really happy about all this too, right, yeah, definitely, except
now he has all this energy. You got to you
gotta put up with him. Unfortunately, that's got to be
the hard part, right Yeah, yeah, yeah, Well you're a

(01:35:54):
good big sister looking out for him.

Speaker 3 (01:35:56):
Thank you.

Speaker 17 (01:35:57):

very very well composed. You have your friends, you want
to anybody. Oh yeah, I'm as brain Marshall and Carolyn,
I'm as brain.

Speaker 3 (01:36:10):
Okay, shout out and Carolyn.

Speaker 13 (01:36:12):
I want to shout out to Hinkley Big Rock Middle School.

Speaker 1 (01:36:16):
Hi period, Carolyn, I feel like you're used to Marshall
just taking the lead.

Speaker 2 (01:36:20):
Yeah kind of yeah, I feel you girl.

Speaker 1 (01:36:25):
Jesse, thank you for being here, Thanks for sharing your story.
I'm sure you have to do it all day, but
it's very emotional, but it's such a happy ending, and
I assume that they're the prognosis is limitless, right.

Speaker 3 (01:36:34):
It's just fantastic. Yeah, he's We're able to delive our
best life.

Speaker 14 (01:36:37):
There's really no restrictions except for marshca and have sunny
d which I'll tell you is the worst thing ever.
But beyond that, it has just been truly life changing
experience and we would really just like to take it
opportunity to thank everyone out there who's thinking about donating,
because this wouldn't have been.

Speaker 3 (01:36:54):
Possible without them.

Speaker 14 (01:36:55):
And when I look back at the last year being
at Lori's, it was extremely difficult. But because of people
like you, guys donating and helping children and helping our
families and so many other families like them, we were
able to bring so much joy to Marshall. And we
just can't thank you enough. We can't thank you for
giving Marshall a second chance of life. We can't thank
you for helping families like ours, and we just really

(01:37:17):
really are grateful for all you guys have done for us.

Speaker 1 (01:37:20):
You're my guy, Marshall. You were my favorite part last year,
my favorite part this year. You got to keep in touch,

Speaker 15 (01:38:22):
Marshall was born with hypoclassical of heart syndrome, which basically
means the left side of the heart didn't grow in usual,
so he has essentially lived his whole life with just
half a heart.

Speaker 13 (01:38:33):
I went to Larry Children for a heart transplant. I
was in the hospital for two hundred and ninety five.

Speaker 20 (01:38:39):
Days, day after day, late on Monday posts.

Speaker 7 (01:38:45):
The wait is long and the weight is hard, and
there were moments were like I just wish I could
take his place. I wish things could have been different,
and I did feel like it was never gonna end.
On April twenty fifth, doctor Thrush saw me and he
got to tell Marshall, which I think was just really beautiful.

Speaker 13 (01:39:02):
I'm like, take him a butt, and then I'm like
his can and I'm like, I'm so happy.

Speaker 9 (01:39:06):
He was just so elated.

Speaker 12 (01:39:09):
He was like, it's here, It's here. The days finally come.

Speaker 7 (01:39:12):
I think it was really beautiful because I'd feel like
we waited and we waited, and we felt almost like this,
who's our new norm? And I think to know that
like such a beautiful, precious gift had come was really
really beautiful, and I'm forever grateful for a donor family.
His old heart was like it's little red bubblegoo, and

(01:39:33):
his new heart was like the what I considered the
perfect heart, and to be given a gift like this,
that's something I can never repay. I'm so incredibly grateful.

Speaker 15 (01:39:46):
Since Marshall's gotten his new heart, he just really looks
like he's thriving.

Speaker 13 (01:39:51):
I recently finished summer and I'm in second grade.

Speaker 1 (01:39:55):
Now.

Speaker 14 (01:39:58):
Nothing can hold him back. He's even a a little
bit more face than he was before, but I will
take that as well.

Speaker 15 (01:40:04):
I think Marshall's snow hardis change our lives in a
million ways. And I think that just he's just.

Speaker 12 (01:40:09):
Gonna do really beautiful things.

Speaker 7 (01:40:10):
And I think Marshall was going to move mountains before
and how I just I cannot wait to see how
the beautiful linked you can do because how much chose
to donate.

Speaker 12 (01:40:19):
Just it's a really really beautiful gift.

Speaker 14 (01:40:22):
And MY biggest goal for Marshall and through all of
this journey is that he just finds joy and everything
he does and whatever his very unique and beautiful this
heart and his new heart and but the one beautiful spirit,
he has to.

Speaker 12 (01:40:34):
Do whatever he wants.

Speaker 14 (01:40:35):
What I would want to say to someone who is
new to louri Children's is welcome home. Loury Children's is
going to be your family.

Speaker 11 (01:40:41):
Donate now to the Lori Children's Hospital. He has a
memory to co one eight eight eight eight three one
seventy seven thirty three conn help save Chicago Lands children.

Speaker 3 (01:40:53):
I believe it there, I thought.

Speaker 1 (01:40:55):
I want to three five Kiss FM, Chicago's number one
hit music station. Marshall is a dud, I asked his mom.
I go, dude, have you had him IQ tested? Because
he's I think he's brilliant, and like, can I invest now,
you know in whatever he's gonna wind up doing right?
Like you know, honestly, I need to find some kids
that are good at sports so for my sports agency,
and then I need to find kids that are going

(01:41:16):
to like cure cancer someday, you know, and just whatever
he's gonna invent. I would like five percent of it
right now. What an amazing story though, I mean he
is a he had a he had energy last year,
but he is a new kid and it's all thanks
to Lary Children's Hospital and the doctor's here like doctor Thrush,
oh yes, or Trush Trush. I don't think it's th

(01:41:37):
Trush Trush.

Speaker 4 (01:41:38):
He are you?

Speaker 1 (01:41:39):

that's the word. Yeah, that is. Oh, hi, guys, how's
it going. Nice to see you. Yeah, no, we're just
on the radio. It's all good. But this is, I know,
believe it or not, this is extremely challenging for all
of us who have severe Lady well Keiki does and

(01:42:01):
she has she has focused perfect.

Speaker 4 (01:42:02):
I'm over here perkolating, moonwalking is so much going on.

Speaker 2 (01:42:06):
Yeah, yeah, you always percolating.

Speaker 1 (01:42:09):
Yes, if you could calm the percolation down that.

Speaker 2 (01:42:14):
Hospital, it's just hard.

Speaker 3 (01:42:15):
But yeah, shout out to the doctors, doctor Allan too.

Speaker 1 (01:42:18):
Yeah, the doctor who just came over to us, who
works on kidneys, who's absolutely brilliant and told us basically,
Caitlyn and you could back this up in the kindest way.
She said, I'm brilliant and you guys are kind of
not and and that's why I love you so much.
That's basically what she said, in the kindest possible way.

Speaker 5 (01:42:38):
Like I tried to say it to get ahead of it,
and she just agreed. And that was tough but also accurate.

Speaker 20 (01:42:43):
No, it was.

Speaker 1 (01:42:44):
I mean, she's over here saving lives, works and kidneys
and saves children's lives. And I said to her. I said,
you know, you're brilliant. You listen to us, and she said, yeah,
that's what she said.

Speaker 3 (01:42:53):
She said, I need to dumb it down because my
life is in toume exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:42:56):
And and that's that is what we're here to do.
If we serve one purpose, it is to do just that.
But I want to thank her, and I want to
think everyone who has been so kind to come over,
and more importantly, all the people who have donated so
far this morning eight eight eight eight three one seven
seven three three Luri Children's dot org slash radio thumb.
You can also text the word Luri l U ri

(01:43:17):
I E to three four nine eighty four and receive
a link to donate and what we're going for and
we need we're updating our nine nine We need nine
more monthly donors. You guys have been coming through strong
with the with the partnership, with the monthly donations. It's
really incredible. Twenty bucks a month, which I know is
not nothing. I know that's a significant amount of money. However,
sixty seven cents a day. You commit to that, it

(01:43:38):
bills you every month automatically. You won't even you won't
even see it. You won't even know it's gone.

Speaker 2 (01:43:42):
Jason, you have no idea, and this hour energy is
tripling everything you call in to donate, So if there's
an hour to do it, it's now. Just like our
girl Kira, who is listening and just donated, So thank
you girl.

Speaker 4 (01:43:52):
Shout out to Myra and alexis out in Indiana. They
just donated. And I think we have what eight more minutes, megal,
so we need what more people?

Speaker 5 (01:44:00):
We also got a text that someone donated fifty dollars
in honor of their friend Leslie. She passed from leukemia
at eight and she said she's going to be forty
in a couple of weeks. The woman who donated and
she's never forgotten her, so in her memory.

Speaker 3 (01:44:12):

Speaker 1 (01:44:16):
My friend Casey texted me she donated. So now we
got people. It turns out my friends listening to this,
which is crazy. I never do that.

Speaker 5 (01:44:23):

Call your men out. If your men haven't called and donated, Yeah,
call them out.

Speaker 3 (01:44:46):
They're dusty if they don't donate. Okay, Mike started the trend.

Speaker 2 (01:44:49):
My man can do it. Yours can too.

Speaker 3 (01:44:50):

Yeah, and if you're at work, go to your boss's office.
Make your boss donate today. Yeah, that does absolutely make them.

Speaker 1 (01:44:59):
That's the thing. Like if you own a business, or
if you know the guy that owns the business, then
tell him, hey, we need to help out the community.
Like so many of these organizations like Jewelasco, Like Darvin,
like NRG, like all these people who are doing that.
You got to step up because this is a place
that I hope you never need, but if you do,
you're gonna be glad that it is here. We're live.

part of the Radiothon and a proud partner with Lori

the staff, the nurses at Lori children so that they're
able to.

Speaker 3 (01:46:03):
Continue to do the work that they do.

Speaker 21 (01:46:05):
And aside from the Radiothon, we have established a Choose

for customers to choose an energy supplier and give back
to the hospital in a meaningful way. So for everybody
