Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, Jason Brown from The Fred Show, and I am
here with an artist that I have been obsessed with
pretty much all year, so I'm very excited to talk
to him. Askar Medkay, how are you today?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
I'm very good. Thank you for having me.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
You're all the way across the world right now. What's
it like in the future? That's what I always like?
You're right?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Yeah, okay?

Speaker 1 (00:27):
How is it there this time?

Speaker 2 (00:30):
It's it's pretty nice, kind of rainy today, but yeah,
all good.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Well, thanks for joining me. And I want to talk
about your song make Me Feel, which is like everywhere
right now, and it's a song that I literally bug
my program director every single week that we need to
play because it's just it's the vibe, especially right now
for the summer. But I want to get to know
you a little bit more. You're a producer, you know,
you're just so talented. What what made you start of

(01:00):
get in this lane of music production? Was it always
sort of like intan you that you always wanted to
do that, or how did you sort of decide like
this is the lane I want to be in.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
I don't know, like when you do it for a while,
it kind of comes together like yeah, and naturally and yeah,
I'm just always kind of made electronic music and so
so like along the way you kind of figure out
like yeah, yeah, what you like and what you what
you're not like, and just go with that.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
So yeah, yeah, And as I was sort of diving
through obviously, I heard Make Me Feel first and was
upset when I started going through the rest of your
music and I was adding like every single song, I
was like adding to my favorites, adding to my favorites,
adding to my favorites, because like it's such your music
is such a cool summer vibe, like and you can

(01:53):
tell that, you know, you have a very consistent sort
of like what you try to put out there when
it to just like I don't know, it's not tropical,
but it's just kind of like chill vibes, but also
like electronic, you know, like I don't know, like what
makes you sort of like decide that like this is
the lane of like I guess electronic music that you

(02:13):
wanted to do, because there's like the real like hardcore
dance stuff, and then there's like you know, like we're
coming short out with Allalooza, which is like I've just
heard you know, like like yours is still like really
good and really intricate and just like the really cool
things you do with production, but it's not like raide
your face off, Like when you're sort of crafting a
new song, how do you sort of say, like, Okay,

(02:34):
this is sort of the vibe I want to go down.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I don't know, I like it when it's kind of chilling.
I feel like it's it fits in so many scenarios,
like if it's on parties and just when you want
to chill at home or drive car, and yes, so
it just fits everywhere. And I mean and myself, I
have tried making like songstar are a bit more heavy

(03:02):
or or more sounds, but I kind of get like
exhausted just sitting there for ten hours with all those sounds.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
So a lot.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, yeah, yeah cool.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
I guess like you have the perfect music that like
if you just want to like hang at least in Chicago,
it's like hang out in the summer, You're on a rooftop,
you're drinking. It's just like I could just see like
you DJing on like a roof top here like just
having like the best party. Like I was like, I
need to make this happen. If not this summer, next summer,
you have to come to Chicago. You have to do this.

(03:37):
Is any of the songs, are they your vocals or
do you kind of pull vocals from other places or
is it a mixture?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, pull vocals. So so sometimes I work with singers
and sometimes I just sample and just pitch up and
down and stretched shreads, stretch, Oh sorry, yeah, just mess
around with them. Yeah, and yeah, it just I just
mess around until I think something sounds cool. And it

(04:05):
just starting with that.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Yeah, yeah, so make me feel is the song that
is probably on everyone's TikTok for you page currently? What
did that sort of feel like? Is you sort of
like because obviously you had so much music and so
much success prior to that song, but with this song
right now like just blowing up everywhere, how did that
feel that you just start seeing it being used and
all these people are discovering it and and I can

(04:29):
just imagine, like especially with how music is spreading nowadays,
like you just open your TikTok one day and like
a thousand people using your track? Like, what does that
feel like?

Speaker 2 (04:41):
I mean, it's it, It feels amazing and it's weird
as well, because you know, I made it and it's
special to me, and everybody else has like their own
connection to that song. But like, it's it's really really
cool to see that people likes it and listens to it,

(05:03):
and yeah, that's what it's all about, you know, making music.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
It's the dream, right, you want people to discover your music. Yeah,
for sure. How is like, have you had a positive
experience when it comes to like the virul having a
song sort of go that viral and social media being
able to take it and do what they want with it.
Is that all been positive for you? Do you like
that or do you wish we were like ten years

(05:28):
ago when we sort of like you could just like
drop something on SoundCloud and like let it go.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Yeah, I know what I mean, And no, I like
it acid is now for sure. Yeah, just so much
fun going on my TikTok for your page and just
see all kinds of people just vibing to the song
and doing stuff and yeah, so yeah I like it. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Well I think it changes like how people not only
experience music, but also artists can get exposed, right, like
because it's like you don't have to be signed to
a major label and have that giant push in order
for millions of people to hear your track, right, Like
if you know it can organically just sort of happen.

(06:14):
But then I think you that's really how you gain fans,
right because like if people are choosing to use your
song or they hear or they say their favorite creator
using their song, like they're gonna want to back you
and and to me, it makes it feel more authentic, right,
Like you know, these people are using it or interacting
with it because they genuinely like it because it's good, right,
not because there's the you know, big machine sort of

(06:36):
telling you what to do. What is coming up? Are
you doing shows? Are you when are you coming to America?
What does the rest of twenty twenty five look like
for Oscar Metkay?

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Yeah, so we're starting to do some shows. I have
a show in Oslo on Saturday, Okay, so that will
be like my first show.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
What's a live show like you with you? Like, what
are the vibes? What can we expect from like a
live experience?

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Oh, just a great experience, good music and yeah, just
me playing some of my favorite songs and mostly my
own songs. And yeah, so if you're in a slow
stop by doing all kinds of stuff all year, and

(07:24):
I think we're going to America next year in February.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Yeah, well hopefully there's a Chicago date because we need
you to come here yeah and be in studio, and
next summer we need you on a rooftop somewhere. That
needs to happen because your vibes are insane. Many new
music coming out that we should be on the lookout
for that you could tell us about, and we have.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
We have a few songs ready and we'll release it
pretty soon. So I'm excited. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Cool, Well, Askar mikay, thank you for joining me. For
anyone listening. Make you Feel is the song. I'm sure
you've heard it, but that's a song right now. And
then it looks like more to come and then maybe
an American tour of some sort next year. So really excited, Oscar,
thanks for joining me, and congrats on everything and the music,

(08:16):
and I can't wait to see what you have coming next.
It's really good, So I'm really excited for you.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Thank you, thank you,
