Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is this thing? Can you hear me? Chase? Been a minute,
but it's time to get into the courtroom. Friend. Welcome
to the Key Key Court Podcast. And here is another
case that has not been heard just yet. We got
a lot to unpack with this one. If you've ever
had a roommate, this may be your trigger warning. Okay.
It says, Hey, Kiki, I'm selling my roommate's furniture on
(00:21):
Facebook Marketplace after she basically moved out without paying rent.
I'm twenty eight years old and I live in a
two bedroom apartment with my now ex roommate, Kayla. She
moved in about eight months ago, and everything seemed fine
until about three months ago when she just stopped paying
her half of the rent. So for two months back
(00:43):
to back, she gave me excuse after excuse. She said,
I'm waiting on a pay check. Oh, there was an
error with my bank. Oh now I'm having Venmo issues. Meanwhile,
I'm covering all of the bills because I don't want
to get evicted. So after two months, I told her, listen,
you need to pay up or move out, and that's
when she ghosted me. Now she wouldn't respond to any
(01:05):
of my text messages. She barely came home, but she
left all of her stuff in the apartment, and I
could see on social media that she was dating a
new guy and going out every other weekend, so clearly
she was staying with him. Finally, I got fed up
and I text her, if you don't move out or
pay me what you owe me, which was twenty four
hundred dollars total, I'm selling your stuff to cover it. Well.
(01:30):
She left me on red again and did not respond,
so I listed her bed, dresser, mirror, and some kitchen
appliances on Facebook Marketplace and I made about eleven hundred dollars.
I kept her clothes and personal items untouched and just
boxed it up because at this point I was looking
for a new roommate. Well, the day after I sold
(01:52):
the last big item, she finally called me, screaming. She
said the dresser I sold was a family heirloom that
belonged to her grandmother and was irreplaceable. She threatened to
call the police, but I told her, look, I gave
you a fair warning and you ghosted me for three weeks.
She then started posting about me on social media and
(02:13):
calling me a thief, saying that I sold sentimental family
items to strangers for weed money. Oh she tried it.
A bunch of people are in the comments calling me heartless,
saying that I should not have sold her items and
I was wrong. But I need to know what you
all think. Am I wrong for selling her furniture to
get the rent money that I was old? I'm gonna
(02:36):
just get right to it. You are not wrong in
my eyes, honey, not wrong at all. And you kept
her personal items and packed them up. You're nice to
do that because I would have thrown them away or
sold them as well. I would have been selling her clothes,
her socks, he underwear, whatever I could sell to get
the money that I needed for rent, because that is
(02:56):
so inconsiderate when you live with somebody, to just abandon
your responsibilities and leave them in a horrible place. Like
not only did she just stop, you know, paying the rent,
she stopped communicating. Like It's one thing to lie to
me about the money, but to not even have the
decency to respond to my text messages. But I can
see you on social media living la vida loca. Hell No, okay,
(03:21):
absolutely not. I don't think you were wrong at all.
I think you were actually nice because you didn't sell
all of her items, because I would still be posted
on Facebook Marketplace if it was me. Let me know
what you think, friend. Do you think she was wrong?
Of course? I put a video up on social follow
me at on air, Kikey, It'll be on ad Fresh
Show Radio as well. Go off in the comments sections
(03:42):
because this one I'm not gonna put on air. I'm
putting it here on the podcast, And I just really
want to get her some feedback to let her know
that she's not wrong, because clearly her friend or ex
roommate has convinced their you know friend group on social
media that oh, she's so wrong for selling my eyes
and she sold my grandmother's dresser and dad, girl, you
(04:03):
should have called your grandmother to help you pay some
of this rent, okay, You should have called on your
family or somebody to help you clear this debt. But
to just leave it on her, I thought that was
wrong and I think that's dirty, and I think you
were justified in selling her items. I'm sorry she abandoned them.
She left them, she didn't even have the decency to
come get them or text you back. Let me know
(04:24):
what you think, friend, Okay, of course, we have another
new case coming to the key Key Courtroom on Monday
with the Friend Shelf, so make sure you tune in
in an eight o'clock hour to hear that one. But
let me know what you think about this friend. Hit
me up on the socials. Love you have a good week, kid,
